Non-Academic Job Market: Resume
So... you’re applying for a non-academic job after being in academia for a long time and you need to create a resume. Where do you start?
Here are some tips I give my business and technical writing students as well as strategies I used in my own resume.
There is no one way to format your resume in terms of font styles, layout, etc. so I suggest looking around and seeing what samples on the internet you find pleasing. I will say this though: avoid going for styles with bold colors or graphic elements unless you’re applying for a graphic design job. Many employers these days want something pretty straight forward.
Because the layout is so variable, here are some general sections that you can include. Keep in mind that the order of these sections can vary, but some things should remain constant:
Every experience should be listed in reverse-chronological order (most recent first)
Don’t include experiences from high school; employers don’t care
If you have a lot of work experience and it makes your resume more than a page or two, consider condensing or selecting only the experiences most relevant to the job you’re applying for
Tailor your resume to the job ad; don’t use a general “one-size-fits-all” resume. This means focusing on experiences and skills that your potential employer will want to see
Make sure you resume looks well-designed. This means balancing text and white space; you don’t want your resume to appear empty, nor do you want it to look overfull. It should be easy to read and not too hard on the eyes when you look at it from a distance.
Header (or top of the page)
Include your name, phone number, and email address. Your mailing and/or office address is optional
If you have a professional Skype name, TEAMS phone number, etc. include that
If you have a LinkedIn profile, include a link to it. DO NOT include your personal social media handles
Summary Statement
This section has become more popular over the previous decade or so and has replaced Objective Statements
The summary is a 1-5 sentence introduction that highlights your most relevant career experience, skills, and achievements
I have personally never included one and have never noticed whether or not it made an impact on whether or not I was interviewed
Examples can be found here
Education
List your degrees in reverse-chronological order (most recent first). Include the degree, your major, the university, and the year you graduated
GPAs are NOT necessary, unless the job ad asks for them
If you are a recent grad with little work experience, this section might come first. If you have a lot of work experience and your degrees aren’t really related to the job you’re applying for, it’s ok to push them down farther in the resume
Example: 2022     PhD, English, University of Badassery 2017     MA, English, University of Coolness 2015     BA, English, University of Awesome
Employment History
List the jobs you’ve had in reverse-chronological order
Include the company/organization name, the dates you were employed, and your job title(s)
It’s ok to hyperlink to the company/organization webpage as many hiring committees will have electronic copies of your resume
Using bullet points, describe your job duties. Start each bullet point with a strong verb and be descriptive. The point here is not merely to communicate what you did, but to show off your skills and show off the level of responsibility you had
For example, revise something like “wiped countertops and tables” to “Maintained a clean environment for customers”
If you are currently employed, use present tense when describing the job duties at your current job. Use past tense to describe duties at previous jobs.
Some ads will ask for a starting and ending salary. I don’t include salary unless asked.
Example: Haddock Solutions, LLC |  June 2021-present Communications Assistant
Compose press releases announcing awards, partnerships, contracts, and company developments
Create spreadsheets for proposal-writing team detailing requirements Haddock Solutions must meet to be awarded particular government grants
Review proposals for compliance with government RFP guidelines
Create personal invoices for services rendered, tracking hours and tasks for remote work
Volunteer Work
If you did any volunteer work, include it here
Follow the same formatting guidelines as Employment History - remember that the point is to show off your skills
Example: Dragon Friends Animal Welfare Association | March 2021-present Communication Action Team Member
Solicit monthly dragon welfare-related articles and “Action Updates” to arrange in a monthly newsletter
Draft, edit, format, and distribute monthly newsletter using Salsa Labs
Create and distribute monthly email blasts announcing general membership meetings using Salsa Labs
Engage the public by creating and managing social media posts (especially Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram)
Keep the public abreast of developments regarding Dragon Riding regulations, Berk’s Animal Welfare Improvement Campaign, and other dragon-related issues by posting local and national news articles to social media
Special Sections
Sometimes, you’ll apply for a job that asks for evidence of a particular skillset. For example, I’ve applied for jobs that really focused on project management, event planning, website creation, and content contribution. In these cases, I created 2 special sections in my resume: Conference Management and Website Management
Format these sections similar to to Employment History and Volunteer Work
Again, the purpose is to emphasize your skills and show the level of responsibility you had
Cater these sections to the job ad; DO NOT create them willy-nilly as irrelevant special sections will detract from the points you want to emphasize
Other Skills
List any computer skills, program knowledge, languages etc. and your level of experience
Format as a simple list; no need to go into too much detail
Knowledge of Microsoft Office is assumed nowadays to be a basic skillset, but if the job ad mentions it, include it in your resume
Listing hobbies is ok here; you never know if a hobby will grab the interest of a reader
Example:
Proficient in citation practices from the Chicago Manual of Style
Proficient in Microsoft Office suite (including Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
Proficient in programs such as Google Drive (especially Docs, Sheets, and Forms), Box, Zoom, Skype, Google Hangouts/Meetings, Discord, Microsoft TEAMS, Salsa Labs
Do I Include My Dissertation and/or Teaching Experience?
Not many potential employers will care about your dissertation; if you’re applying for a job that likes to see publications, then include it. Otherwise, it’s not necessary. For example, I currently work for a lab, and the lab hires people who have published papers. Although the lab is in the private sector, it likes to see candidates who have mastery of certain topics. However, my degree is in the humanities; they don’t care about my dissertation, so I didn’t mention it.
Teaching experience will go under “Employment History” - format it like any other job. Your employer is the name of your university/department and your title will be something like “teaching assistant”
Research Assistantships can be treated the same way
Focus on transferrable skills rather than what courses you taught
Example: Berk University English Department | Fall 2012-Spring 2020 Teaching Assistant and Instructor
Developed advanced composition courses, including Business and Technical Writing
Prepared students to enter the job market by teaching foundational professional communication skills (such as writing for different     audiences, concision, active voice) and genres (such as proposals,  reports, cover letters)
Provided instruction on composing persuasive, analytical papers (including units such as organization, clarity, and using evidence)
Gave critical feedback on both written assignments and oral     presentations
Synthesized public speaking and writing skills to compose and     deliver lectures ranging from 15 to 90 minutes
Articulated and managed mini-deadlines, creating realistic goals for  students during larger projects
Maintained records of student grades, participation, and attendance
Facilitated group discussions on a range of topics, including     abstract concepts such as how technology has changed the way professionals communicate
Coached, tutored, and mentored students outside of designated class time
Mentored fellow teachers by sharing handouts, assignments, and general advice about course design

How to Stand Out in a Job Interview After Completing an Online MBA Program
Are you an ambitious individual who recently completed an Online MBA Program? Congratulations on achieving this significant milestone in your career! Now, as you prepare to enter the job market and showcase your skills and knowledge, it’s essential to learn how to stand out in job interviews. In this blog post, we will discuss effective strategies and tips that can help you make a lasting impression during your job interview after completing an Online MBA Program.
Tumblr media
Here are some ways to stand out in a job interview:
Having a Strong and Professional Online Presence
In today’s digital age, having a strong and professional online presence is crucial. Before you even step foot into the interview room, potential employers are likely to search for your name on the internet. Here’s how you can build and enhance your online presence:
Build a LinkedIn Profile
LinkedIn is a powerful platform that allows professionals to network and showcase their skills and experiences. Create a compelling LinkedIn profile that highlights your Online MBA Program, certifications, internship experiences, and relevant skills. Ensure your profile picture is professional and your summary effectively showcases your career aspirations and accomplishments.
Engage in Thought Leadership
Establish yourself as a thought leader in your industry by sharing valuable insights and engaging in relevant discussions online. Publish articles or blog posts on professional platforms or your personal website. Engaging in thought leadership will not only demonstrate your expertise but also make you more visible to potential employers.
Clean Up Your social media
Remember to review and clean up your social media profiles. Remove any inappropriate or unprofessional content that could negatively impact your job prospects. Employers often look at social media profiles to gain a better understanding of a candidate’s character and values.
Leverage Your Online MBA Program Experience
Completing an Online MBA Program is a significant achievement that sets you apart from other candidates. Here’s how you can effectively leverage your online MBA program experience during your job interview:
Highlight Your Core Competencies
During the interview, emphasize the core competencies you developed throughout your Online MBA Program. These may include leadership, strategic thinking, problem-solving, analytical skills, effective communication, and team management. Provide concrete examples from your coursework or projects to demonstrate how you applied these competencies.
Discuss Your MBA Capstone Project
Most Online MBA programs require students to complete a capstone project, which often involves solving real-world business challenges. Highlight your capstone project during the interview to showcase your ability to take a holistic approach to problem-solving and apply your knowledge in a practical setting. Explain your project in a concise and compelling manner, emphasizing the results and impact it had.
Share Success Stories
Share success stories from your Best Online MBA Program experience. Discuss how you implemented innovative strategies, tackled complex problems, or led a team towards achieving a common goal. These stories will demonstrate your ability to overcome challenges and deliver results—a quality that employers highly value.
Preparation is Key
Preparation is the key to success in any job interview, and as an MBA Graduate, you must dedicate ample time and effort to prepare. Here are some essential tips to ensure you are well-prepared for your job interview:
Conduct Thorough Research
Research the organization you are interviewing with thoroughly. Understand their mission, values, products or services, competitors, and recent news or developments. This knowledge will allow you to tailor your answers and demonstrate your genuine interest in the company.
Practice Behavioral Interview Questions
Behavioral interview questions assess your past behavior and how you would handle specific situations. Prepare responses to common behavioral questions based on your Global MBA  Program experiences, internships, and work history. Use the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result) to structure your responses effectively.
Prepare Questions to Ask
Towards the end of the interview, you’ll likely be given an opportunity to ask questions. Prepare a list of thoughtful questions that demonstrate your interest in the role and the company. This will show your enthusiasm and dedication to understanding the organization better.
Showcasing Your Soft Skills
While your technical skills and knowledge gained during your online MBA program are essential, employers also value soft skills. Here are some soft skills you should focus on showcasing during your job interview:
Effective Communication
Demonstrate your ability to articulate complex ideas clearly and concisely. Employers are looking for candidates who can effectively communicate with a diverse range of stakeholders, both internally and externally.
Leadership and Teamwork
Highlight your leadership experiences and your ability to work collaboratively within a team. Discuss situations where you successfully led a team or played a crucial role in achieving collective goals.
Adaptability and Flexibility
The business world is constantly evolving, and employers seek candidates who can adapt and thrive in dynamic environments. Share examples where you demonstrated adaptability and embraced change in your previous roles or during your online MBA program.
Follow-up with Gratitude
Don’t forget to follow-up with a thank-you note or email after your job interview. Express your gratitude for the opportunity to interview and reaffirm your interest in the position. This small gesture illustrates your professionalism and leaves a positive impression on the hiring manager.
In conclusion, standing out in a job interview after completing an online MBA program requires a combination of effective online presence, leveraging your MBA Program experience, thorough preparation, showcasing soft skills, and post-interview follow-up. By implementing these strategies and tips, you’ll be well on your way to making a memorable impression and securing your dream job. Good luck!
“Success in a job interview comes from preparation, dedication, and the ability to effectively showcase your skills and experiences.”

Steps to Write An Online Internship CV
Tumblr media
Writing a resume for a work-from-home internship can be tough. First impressions matter and your CV is your introduction to the companies you want to gain experience with.
Due to the many applications for each position, recruiters and hiring managers typically invest at least seven seconds in one resume. Therefore, as a candidate, it's your duty to devise ways to catch the attention of those reading your resume in those seven seconds.
Now you're probably wondering, how can you do that? Let us answer that for you.
For Online Internship programs, we have worked with many interns and host companies, and now we have developed the 6-step guide to writing the best internship resume.
6-Step Guide to Write For Work from Home Internship Resume
It's common for students to have little experience to put on their resumes. However, when strategically planned, even a little of what you have can create a fantastic resume.
From coming up with sections to list on your resume to editing it to impress the hiring recruiter. Follow how to create an attractive resume for an online internship from scratch:
Step 1: Choose the Best Resume Structure
An internship resume does two things well: it contains all the necessary sections and has an organised structure.
Well, let's discuss the necessary sections next, but before filling out the bulk of your resume, it's essential to set your structure. A resume for an online internship can be organised in the following order:
Header- contact information
Resume objective- summary about yourself and what you are looking for
Education- Highlights of your academic performance
Work experience- It can be a job or a work-from-home internship
Skills -list your more relevant abilities
References (if applicable)
In addition to the above, your resume for unpaid or paid internships will undoubtedly be expanded by other details, including interests, certifications, and more.
Step 2: Start with the Header
A header typically contains your contact information and your CV's objective.
So, start by adding your personal details and contact information. At the top, list your name, contact number, email address, and links to your website or LinkedIn profile.
Make sure your email address is professional. If you are willing to enter the corporate world, you must start behaving professionally, so start with your CV now. Moreover, hiring managers will not approve your high school email address.
Next, add a captivating resume, opening statement, or goal. This section is your opportunity to catch the reader's attention and invite them to read more. Strive for 2-3 sentences and include your:
Field of study
Relevant Skills and experiences
Why are you applying for this specific online internship
Step 3: Highlight Your Education
You are most likely writing for an unpaid or paid internship as a high school or college student/graduate with little or no work experience. In this circumstance, the education section will be the heart of your resume.
That's why every graduate must include the following points in the education section of an internship resume:
Name of school or college/university
Details of your domain
Relevant coursework
Dean's list awards (if any)
Any extracurricular activities you have participated in
Grades or your GPA
Here, you need to be careful when listing everything.
Step 4: Excellent Alternatives of Work Experience
You may feel like you don't have any work experience to list. Still, you can highlight ample alternative experiences in their place to display your commitment to development. Therefore, highlighting these experiences in your CV may just be the difference between you and another shortlisted candidate.
Step 5: List Your Skills
Employers may look for unique skills, so make sure these are tailored for each internship position.
The best way to do it is: to make a master list with examples of skills you possess. You can also create different sections of soft and hard skills.
Once done, this master list will be the baseline from which you can select the most important skills when altering your resume for different internship positions.
Moreover, sprinkle those you are most confident in throughout your resume for work from a home internship. You can include some in your education, experience, and even resume objective sections.
Step 6: Miscellaneous: Extra Section for Maximum Impact
With little or no work experience, your resume for an online internship program can look light. If this is true for you, then you can consider adding these various sections:
Languages
Hobbies and interests
Online Course Certifications
However, having a one-page, brief, simple resume is often appreciated. Refrain from filling your resume with bluff, and make sure only to add specific details.
Proofread and Look for Structural or Grammatical Errors
Whether using Canvas or Grammarly, proofread it to spot and correct any spelling or grammatical errors. Ensure sentences are making sense.
Time To Find an Online Internship
By now, you should know how to write an internship resume that makes an impactful first impression and lands you an interview.
But what if we tell you there's a shortcut to landing a work-from-home internship completely customised to your career goals and interests without the hassle of searching, finding, and applying for hundreds of positions yourself?

How to make your LinkedIn profile stand out and how to connect with others.
I accidentally deleted this anonymous question. Here is my response, hopefully you see it anon. ✨
Your profile photo:
You want a professional photo that best show cases your personality. It’s how people are introduced to you and it governs their impressions from the start. The photo should be well lit with little to no distractions in the background.
It goes without saying but your outfit should be beautiful but work appropriate. Wear colours that best compliment your skin tone and make you look radiant. Avoid wearing distracting patterns, solid colors work best.
Keep your makeup simple and elegant.
Lastly ensure in your settings that your profile photo is visible to all LinkedIn members, you want recruiters to be able see your profile photo.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Headline: A great headline should
Show recruiters who you are
Show what you can do for them
Use role specific keywords so that you appear in search suggestions
Examples of good headlines:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
LinkedIn summary and about section:
Your LinkedIn profile is your resume and it should be formatted as such, make your LinkedIn summary keyword-rich.
Keep in mind recruiters search for a combination of job titles, skills, and other keywords to find the right candidates.
Learn and understand your audience to identify what they are looking for.
Review job descriptions that interest you and take note of recurring hard skills and keywords that you think recruiters would want to look for. If applicable to you and your career goals, add these words to your LinkedIn summary and profile.
Your LinkedIn summary is the perfect place to add context to your career trajectory, show off your accomplishments (add specific data and awards), and dig into what makes you great at your job.
An example of a students LinkedIn summary:

An example of a job seekers LinkedIn summary:

An example of a career change LinkedIn summary:

Job Experience:
Focus on showing your impact in the role rather than just highlighting your responsibilities, use your bullet points to share the problems you were presented with, the actions you took, and the positive results it brought the business. Exemplify this by making use of metrics as well.
Examples of impact statements:
Coordinated with the marketing team to form a 10-person group for a new product launch that resulted in $50,000 in company revenue and greater synergy between both departments.
Surpassed annual sales goals by over 35% for four consecutive years using active listening and communication skills to better understand customer needs.
Analyzed market trends to launch five new products within a year that resulted in a 30% profit increase for the company, up from 10% from the year prior.
Education, License & Certifications:
Include information on all your formal educational training, it’s especially beneficial when aside from formal educational training you have additional certifications on hard skills.
Key Skills:
I already mentioned that recruiters input specific skills or keywords into complex queries to find candidates in LinkedIn search.
So the skills you list throughout your profile should match the frequency and exact wording found in the descriptions of jobs you’re interested in or have applied for.
Additional Note on optimizing your LinkedIn profile. Change your settings to let recruiters know you’re open for work.
Who to connect with on LinkedIn:
Professionals in your industry.
Professionals in your desired role.
Professionals you’ve engaged with at industry and networking events.
Recruiters and hiring managers in your industry, especially if their profiles mention that they are hiring.
Message templates to use to connect with others on LinkedIn:
Template for career guidance and potential mentorship:
Dear (Name)
I’m a (state occupation or simply mention that you’re a student and the college you attend) interested in working in (desired role) For the last year, I’ve been following your work for (company), and it’s really inspired me.
I particularly loved your (compliment a recent article or achievement of theirs and mention what stood out to you). If you ever have 20 or so minutes, I’d love to hear more about how you started working in the field and what skills you believe are most relevant to the profession.
Regards
Template for someone you met at a networking event:
Dear (Name)
It was great speaking to you at the (name of event ) ( Highlight something significant they mentioned in your conversation and how insightful you thought it was.) I’d definitely like to stay in touch.

Guide to : Essentials Career Path in A nutshell
Tumblr media
What makes the most sense to you right now for your career development? Since I’m taking a Journalism major in Uni, I really think that the most sense decision I’ve ever thought about ( right now) is being a journalist and a screenwriter. It may sound silly, “you’re a Journalism major, of course you’re going to be a journalist”, but I seriously have many other things in mind when it comes to my job ( I really wanna be in a rock band, you know. I can play the bass or be the front man, but yeah )
And the things I have to do to develop my career will be everything that is related to writing. I can write fiction, children's books, essays, travel and beauty blogs, or maybe write a news/article. Looking forward to it~
What will complement your interests, skill set and the lifestyle that you want to have?
P-r-a-c-t-i-c-e
Okay, since I really want to have an extra boujee-parisian-lifestyle, I really have to work my *ss off. I honestly have many interests in things that’ll make money such as building a business, baking, drawing and also writing, but sometimes I just have 0 interest in practicing them. ( I guess i really have to) but for the things that I’m excellent at and don't really need a polish, that’ll be public speaking and it applies for any speaking related matters, like storytelling, and also speech ( If I have the material, too lazy to do the research)
I really want to work in entertainment, being a screenwriter and producing some work there, being a news anchor or PD at a radio maybe? but then if I finally knocked some sense into me, I guess i want to be a lecturer in a university that writes cool scenarios for their drama club and bake when bored
What do you find to be the most compelling thing to explore at this moment in time?
Honestly, figuring out what I want to do with my life. Maybe practicing some of my hobbies that I wish has a relation with my future career, like how digital video and design are supposed to work (whole adobe thingy), how to write an article/novel/blog/essays, coding? The most complicated thing I know on earth, that I wish I could just understand in a blink and also think about what I am going to do if I want to move to france.
The path you choose to follow will help you develop your career and achieve your ideal job. Therefore, it’s important to explore the different approaches available before you begin. In the next step, you will start to look at some of these approaches.
Do you already have an idea of what your ideal job is?
I really think that the idea of an ideal job is something that gives you enough money to live but not really draining you out of energy. I mean, if you’re that busy you never get the fun anymore in those jobs, the money , it has to be worth the energy that you drained, you know.
People often talk about how your passion should be your source of money blah blah blah, but sometimes, we just don't get the fun anymore if everyone pushes us to make enough money for living everytime we do what is called our passion.
I’m thinking about being a teacher with ok money and then do my hobby/dreams as the side hustle ( you know, if i’m not pass out because m’too tired), that’s my ideal job
But if we’re talking about dream jobs? Oh how I just want to be in a rock band and do gigs until the day I die, or maybe marry Damiano David from Maneskin and become a housewife? Yeah, sounds good.
What do you think the path to it looks like?
Before we finally become a lecturer, we have to-at least- have a master degree. So, because it’s 21th century and the school tuition is not cheap, I plan to take a scholarship, and hopefully I can go to europe.
I plan to be the best at uni, not that ambitious, but just to make sure I graduate on time. Until then, I plan to do my best as a uni student, like joining some organisation , doing some internship, and obviously practicing my writing abilities. I plan to find a part time job that is related to journalism ( applying to a magazine/online zine/newspaper) or something like that really, anything ( photographer, make up artist for newbie models) and keep a little amount of money for future me.
After that, I’m going to take a B1 placement test on my german, and then maybe korean/french? And of course, IELTS so i can go to europeeee for my master studies
Ok then after uni, i want to work at a magazine while I’m applying to those scholarship studies. Ok then I got the scholarship, quit the job, went to Europe having my studies and living my best life. Hopefully I will be able to still work there and get my PR maybe? And then do literally what I want. Lecturing maybe, or get a job on some movie production ? become their screenwriter. yeah
Have you previously considered that there might be different approaches to your career path? Or is this a new concept for you?
Yes, and I am super open to it. I’m just going to try my best and the rest is not in my hands. Whatever happens later in the future, that’s what my work pays off, or that’s just what god wants me to have in my life. I’ll accept it with open heart ( hopefully)
#I really want to be rich and happy.
Before you explore these further, there are a few key areas you need to keep in mind:📷
Career goals
Knowledge
Skills
Personal characteristics
Experience
In order to start on the career path you want for yourself, you need to make a plan about what you’re missing in each of these areas and what you need to acquire. Identifying purpose or focus in this way is called ‘ikigai’ in Japanese. You can read more about ikigai by visiting the links in the See Also section.
Whichever approach you choose to develop your career, these are areas you will need to focus on to see what could be further developed as you build your career.
Now let’s explore five different approaches:
1. Matrix
The matrix approach is about having skill sets in different areas and bringing them together to create a profile that is distinct to you. You may have a variety of interests you want to pursue. With the matrix approach, you can explore how to combine these interests into a role which is unique to you.
For example, someone who would like to study web programming, as well as design, could look to combine these interests and become a web developer for any company or organisation with an online presence.
2. Ladder
The ladder approach is better suited for those who know exactly what career or job role they want. They have a dream job in mind or a dream company they wish to work for, so they’re willing to work their way up the ladder to get there.
For the person that aspires to work in television, that might mean starting out as a runner on set. They may then work their way up to get a role as a director or an executive producer, or whatever that ideal role might be.
3. Entrepreneurial
The entrepreneurial approach is about turning an idea into a business and learning along the way. You apply your current skill set whilst rapidly growing your capacity in all areas of business. It takes a lot of work, patience and courage, but can be deeply rewarding for anyone who finds this path to be of interest.
4. Network
The network approach is geared around building a network of contacts that will be mutually beneficial. For example, if you were at a tech networking event and you met a few founders, this would be a great opportunity for you.
What is key in the network approach is to ensure that you’ve thought through what you can offer someone, so that it’s a mutually beneficial and authentic relationship.
5. Portfolio
Creating a portfolio might be more commonly associated with jobs in photography or graphic design. However, it is both relevant and necessary across many disciplines. Many employers will want and need to have an idea of the type of work you can do, so the portfolio approach is a great way for you to demonstrate your skills.
If someone were looking to build a career in public relations, for example, they would be at an advantage if they had a portfolio of their previous coverage. This highlights not just their contacts but what type of work they are capable of doing.
A portfolio is just as valuable a commodity as your CV, so you should build one in line with the career you are interested in pursuing. It is also a great way to share your work and skills with people beyond a job application. For example, you could add it to your LinkedIn page, website or any other medium.
Summary
Choosing the best approach for your career is an essential component of your lifelong career development. There’s no guidebook or master plan for building your career. You can take a sabbatical, be a stay-at-home parent, or even move down a position.
The important thing to remember is that your approach is your own. If you find that multiple approaches like those mentioned above appeal to you, find a way to combine those to take the right approach for you.
Share your experience:
Have you already been using any of the approaches mentioned in this step?
Can you find any examples of other approaches for developing your career? Not for this moment, but I’ll definitely go with Matrix combined with a portfolio approach. I am building my portfolio in tumblr, wix and wordpress.
Why not have a go at exploring a few of these approaches further? I wish to explore more and I will do it thx.cash

Module Summary
Tumblr media
The project itself, in terms of my own development, has been positive. In the end, as a group managed to make sure the exhibition preparation is on track for completion.
My self-branding has gone well I feel, although I do want to improve it somewhat in the next few years. I would like to experiment more, make it look more detailed and look into more typography styles.
I had an insight into the world of UX Design, how agencies operate, and what my journey will look like. For example, in 5 years I could be eligible to become a senior UX Designer.
In this module I also learned that self-branding isn’t just creating a logo. It’s everything that comes with it: the portfolio, the LinkedIn profile, the CV etc. It is so important to become you, and I don’t think I was ready for that as I like to keep a low profile and keep myself to myself a lot of the time. I guess I found that side of it challenging, but also rewarding as it forced me to take the leap and post online content.
I learned that there aren’t as many design jobs out there as you’d expect, and I am preparing myself for the wait. I also learned that I am lucky to be in the position I am in with a job already albeit it is working from home, but other students don’t have that luxury to begin with.
I learned that it is extremely difficult to organise and prepare for an exhibition online only whilst in a pandemic, and whilst we are all attempting to finish our degrees with deadlines looming.
Next, I am going to look for job opportunities and develop myself as a designer. I am not going to stand still and wait for opportunities. I will develop my skillset on platforms such as Udemy and ensure that I am developing even if I don’t find a job immediately.
I am excited but I also feel like I am jumping off a cliff without a parachute, but it is about having the confidence that I will have one before I hit the ground. I do feel as if I am more prepared though as I am slightly older than a lot of the others on my course.
I feel like I am even more hungry to succeed after getting an insight into design agencies and how they operate. Seeing agencies such as Bolser has excited me, and I am having visions of how my life will hopefully look like. I also feel like the module has given me some self-confidence as I haven’t looked into self-branding for a few years now. Giving myself an online profile has given me the confidence to be proud of who I am.
I guess I could sum this module up visually as someone looking out of the window waiting at their gate at the airport, getting ready to board but without knowing their destination yet.
