One of the biggest reasons I try to recruit all the characters in Three Houses isn’t just because I don’t want to kill them, but because if I do, I still have to go back to the monastery afterward. I still have to pass by their dorm rooms full of their belongings and know that’s where they spent their alone time and where they slept. I still have to pass by the spots they frequented the most. It’s not just the sad dialogue of characters reacting to the deaths, but passing by the spots I vividly remembered them hanging out at.
I realized this most in my first playthrough when I didn’t have the chance to recruit everyone and I accidently killed Raphael at Gronder. I didn’t have the enemy attack range turned on so I didn’t realize he was in range of attacking.
During an exploration, I was looking for Ignatz who was, unfortunately, in his dorm room... and I walked into the wrong room and into Raphael’s after he was killed and man that fuckin’ sucked! Feels bad but like, multiplied with big numbers, u kno??? ???
YES, IT’S A VIDEO GAME. YES, I HAVE HUMAN BEING FEELINGS ABOUT IT.
#DCB Comments#I also didn't get to recruit Ferdie in my first playthrough which is what I mean about#characters mentioning others dying. like Dorothea saying ''we killed Ferdie'' didn't hit nearly as hard as#walking into now dead Raphael's room and seeing all his stuff still lying around the way it was left when everyone had to flee#AND THE WORST PART? it's not like I MEANT to go into his room and stew on it. I completely accidentally walked into it#because I was trying to find/talk to Ignatz who was in his own room. MIND YOU after that I made it a point to NOT#walk into Ferdie's room and have that same thought process! because like. Raphael isn't one of my faves#and it was a huge Feels BAD Man moment walking into HIS room#forget if I walked into the room of someone I loved!!! I did try to recruit him but it just didn't work fast enough#I BARELY got Caspar in that run bc it was the final month which is only two weeks and I think I actually#didn't even get him the first week. I'm pretty sure I got him on the absolute last week so literally on#the absolute last possible exploration for recruiting. I had Linhardt already so I was hellbent on getting Caspar#bc I didn't want them to have to be enemies. basically I'd watched the game online already before playing#bc I didn't own the game or a Switch for a while after the game was out. I knew the spot you fight them at#and that they're both in the same chapter as enemies if not recruited which meant that if I only got Linhardt#that Caspar would be alone as my enemy and he wouldn't even have his best buddy there AND they'd be enemies#also tho Raphael just hit hard because I may not consider him a fave at all but he was still a nice dude you know??? ??? ???#like he's just a regular nice guy vibing and like... realizing that gentle nice man was killed in war#and walking into his old room was SADS. very big sads#DCB Three Houses Stuff

Eagle under the lions paw pt 3
Tumblr media
You and Dimitri did end up spending more time outside of training, having meals at the dinner hall, and doing errands together. It was nice to finally know the one you were so desperate to meet all those years ago.
"So what's up with you and Dimitri? I knew you guys sparred together but you two have been noticeably closer as of late" Dorathea brought up before sipping her tea.
"We've just hit it off" you replied. You noticed her eyebrow raised.
"Just as friends of course" you blurted out.
"(Y/n) You know you can trust me to keep a secret" she assured you.
"I swear we're just friends" you replied.
"Ok, it's just I've noticed the way he's been looking at you since you arrived at the academy," she said.
"What do you mean by that?" You asked.
"You haven't noticed? He looks at you the same way a lost little puppy would. He looks at you with absolute adoration, honestly, I'm a little jealous" she sighed.
Was Dorathea right? Did Dimitri like you romantically? You didn't know how to feel about it. Yes, he was strong, handsome and kind. All qualities that a spouse should have but you didn't really see him as a romantic partner.
"I don't really see him in a romantic way" you replied.
"Then you should probably tell him, it's better to let him know soon than lead him on" she advised.
"But what if he doesn't have a romantic interest? Then it'd be embarrassing" you asked.
"Trust me, even if it's all platonic it's better to draw that line before things get messy" she explained.
That conversation has been playing on loop in your mind since then. You felt a wood tap on your hip that shook you out of your trance.
"Are you alright?" Dimitri asked you.
"Yes, sorry I was just thinking about class this morning" you lied.
"Finding it overwhelming? If you want we can cut the training short today" he offered.
"No, I can continue. After all the battle of the eagle and the lion is only a few weeks away, there's no way I can slack off now" you replied.
"You're not confident in your abilities?" He asked.
"I'm confident but I have no idea about everyone else's skills, and if I am unfortunate enough to get pitted against you then there's no way I'd win" you replied.
"You shouldn't be hard on yourself, all you can do is try your best, it is a mock battle after all," he told you. You could see why Dorathea said what she did about how he looks at you. A soft and kind expression was always plastered on his face when you were around him but it wasn't enough to be evident that he did have feelings for you.
🦅🦅🦅
"Edelgard and I have discussed the plan for the upcoming battle of the eagle and the lion" Manuela addressed the class as she crudely drew a map of gronder field.
"This battle will be against both the blue lions and the golden deer so we must effectively fight both teams.
"So we must separate to take on both teams," she said before drawing three arrows from the left side, one to the top, one to the right, and one to the center.
"Caspar and Ferdinand will advance north to the lions, Linhardt and Hubert will follow behind to provide support" she addressed the three.
"Edelgard and Petra will advance to the east and take on the deers with Dorathea providing support"
"This central fort is an advantage for archers so try to stop the other teams from capturing it and allow Bernadetta to claim it" she was explaining before a shriek was heard.
"No I don't want to be in the center, I wouldn't last a minute there!" Bernadetta retorted.
"That is why (Y/n) will cover for you" Manuela reassured.
"Don't worry, it should be a piece of cake Bernie. With everyone else, it makes it easier to pick off anyone who gets too close" you tried to reassure Bernadetta who was obviously stressed.
"If things get too tough I'll cover you," you said.
🦅🦅🦅
You signaled Bernadetta to take the position at the fort while there was a clearing.
"I hope this ends soon…" she muttered as she got into her position after hopping off her horse.
"So do I" you replied as you looked out. The golden deer had suffered a significant loss. Not that the Eagles were doing much better. You could see that both Casper and Ferdinand were walking off the field, while Hubert and Linhardt retreated to the east to form up with Edelgard and Petra.
"Bernie, you might want to start firing now" you advised, earning a shriek from her.
"Where?!" She struggled to make out.
"North, Sylvain, and Dedue are coming. You take out Sylvain and I'll stop Dedue" you suggested.
"Ok…" she replied before you moved forward to stop them getting through.
"Dedue you fall back to cover Ashe, I'll try capturing the fort" Sylvain told Dedue.
This wasn't good, Sylvain was now in a blind spot for Bernie and Dedue was leaving range.
"Hey you're the girl I've seen Dimitri hanging around recently" he commented.
"So what of it?" You asked him as you approached him.
"Nothing just realized it was you," he said as he tried to strike you and you dodged.
"You're pretty cute, maybe after this is over we could get something to eat?" he proposed. You could feel the heat in your cheeks rise. You swung your lance towards him with enough force to knock it out of his hands.
"Whoa, you're feisty!" He exclaimed.
"I'm sorry, I didn't hurt you did I" you asked, shocked that you'd managed to knock it straight out of his grip.
"I'm fine, just didn't have a good grip… I guess I'll have to forfeit" he told you as he picked up his lance.
"My offer's still open by the way," he told you before he walked off the field.
You had very little time to relax before you saw Dimitri's approach.
"Bernie fall back!" You shouted earning another shriek from her. The Blue Loins were overwhelming in comparison to your house. You readied yourself knowing you'd certainly fail but still like Dimitri told you, you'd have to give it your best shot. You charged toward him and tried to strike him overhead, however, he blocked and pushed you back. He then tried to counter but you barely avoided him as you tried to center yourself.
You tried desperately to best him but he always manages to block your attacks. You can barely keep a good grip on your lance with the force that he strikes back with. Then you hear a crack and feel his lance hit your ribs. The air in your lungs was knocked out of you as you hit the ground, unable to comprehend what happened til you tried to get up, realizing that your lance was snapped in half and feeling a horrible pain in your side causing you to yelp in pain.
"(Y/n) I'm so sorry!" He exclaimed as he kneeled to you. He looked at you with horror.
"Are you alright? Do you need help getting up? I swear I didn't mean to hurt you" he asked, panic evident in his voice. He hadn't realized how hard he was hitting with the adrenalin pumping in his blood.
"I know you didn't mean it…" you replied between labored breaths as you tried to stand.
Dimitri took notice of your pain and helped you up. "Do you want me to help you get back to camp?" He offered. But you shook your head and declined.
"I should be fine. Besides, you have to support your team" you told him. In honesty, you did need help but you didn't want to burden him, as helping you would also count him as retreating. You walked forward a bit before flagging Bernadetta to come over and support you.
"Oh goddess, he nearly killed you…" she stuttered as she let you lean on her for support.
"No, he didn't, I'm sure it'll just be a bruise" you tried to calm her as she took you to the infirmary tent.
Manuela inspected your injury for a while before giving you some medicine.
"You've got a bruised ribcage, I can't really do much except give you some pain relief and suggest you take it easy for the next month," she told you before handing you a glass of water.
"I can't believe how quickly the blue lions managed to advance. They barely gave you guys breathing space, that new professor really is something" she sighed.
You swallowed the bitter medicine she had offered and drank your water before noticing Edelgard in the corner of your eye.
"Did you get injured too?" You asked.
"No, I wanted to check up on you. I heard from Bernadetta that you were hurt" she replied with a hint of worry in her voice.
"Manuela told me I've got a bruised ribcage, I've just got to take it easy for a month" you replied trying to play it off as something minor.
"How did you manage to bruise your rib?" She asked as she grabbed a nearby ice pack and gently pressed it against your ribs.
"My lance ended up snapping in half while fighting Dimitri and his lance ended up hitting my ribs" you explained.
"(Y/n) You need to be more careful… I don't want anything happening to you" she said to you in an almost sorrowful tone, yet you still could feel her reservation.
"Edel, I'll be fine for now. But I promise you I'll be more careful, as long as you promise me the same.
A small smile formed on her lips yet her eyes showed that she was upset.
"I promise," she said as she held out her pinkie finger.
"I'll hold you to it" you replied before wrapping your finger around hers.
"And so will I," she told you.
"You should rest now, I don't want you getting hurt again," she told you before leaving.
So you lay staring at the top of the tent for what seemed like forever. A few more students entered suffering from far less than you had. From what you could hear amongst them the blue lions had a firm lead, now only Claude, Hilda, Petra, and Linhardt remained compared to the nearly unscathed blue lions.
Then you heard the sound of a horn. It was over. You wished you had just given up your position and avoided Dimitri, maybe that would have given your team more of a chance. Everyone was beginning to pack up. You sat up and surprisingly your ribs didn't hurt as much, now more of a dull pain thanks to the medicine.
"(Y/n) are you alright?" Dimitri asked as he entered the tent.
"I am, I just have to take it easy for a bit," you told him.
"I'm sorry" he kneeled beside you.
"It's fine, I know you didn't mean it. Obviously, my lance wasn't that well crafted" you told him.
"I still feel awful for it, tomorrow I'll get you a replacement," he said.
"No, you don't have to" you retorted.
"No it's the least I could do to apologize," he told you.
You stood up, trying to not express the pain you still felt.
"We should probably get going now, it'll be a long walk back to the monastery," you said as you gathered up the armor you had removed when you'd arrived.
🦅🦅🦅
"Thank the goddess that was a mock battle" was something you'd hear for the rest of the day. Even during dinner, you hear more of it.
"The blue lions were leagues ahead of us, they barely gave us a chance" Caspar sighed. You could tell he wasn't too satisfied with his performance.
"(Y/n) you haven't had a bite of your food yet, are you alright?" Dorathea asked you. You hadn't even realized you had just been staring at your food blankly.
"No I'm alright, I've just been thinking about today" you replied.
"Yeah… today's results have left a bitter taste in my mouth" she replied.
You ate in silence. What the others kept saying was on your mind, what if it hadn't been a mock, what if it had been an actual war? It was terrifying to imagine. All these people sitting with you would have been dead. That blow Dimitri had dealt to you could have killed you if it hadn't been a training weapon but he wouldn't do that, he cared about you deeply.
Honestly thinking about it made a knot form in your stomach. You stood up and picked up your half-eaten plate of food.
"(Y/n) are you sure you're alright?" Dorathea asked you again.
"I'm fine," you told her before leaving the table and returning your plate to the front.
You walked out of the dining hall and were on your way back to your dorm when you felt a hand on your shoulder.
"(Y/n) Is something wrong?" Dimitri's voice asked.
"Dimitri, why aren't you inside? You and your class should be celebrating" you asked him.
"I saw you leave your table after barely eating, I was worried about you" he explained.
"I'm fine, just tired," you told him. You tried to leave but he reached out and grabbed your wrist, his grip was firm, like his life depended on it.
"Tell me (Y/n), I know there's something on your mind," he said. You remained silent.
"Do you not trust me?" He asked.
"I do" you replied.
"Then tell me, I promise you it'll only be between us if you wish," he told you. You sighed before finally responding.
"I've been thinking about today… What if it hadn't been a mock battle, I know it sound stupid but the thought terrifies me" you explained.
"I think almost all of us have thought about it today, but just think what reason would we have to start a war?" He replied.
You thought long and hard on what he said. There really wasn't a reason as far as you could tell.
"The isn't" you replied.
"See, so there's no reason to worry" he told you.

Are you interested in more Fe3h worldbuilding lore because there's so much implicit stuff!! You can look at the character and country name and what they reference, the way the dress, or even what Fe3h is inspired from ( did you know the game take a lot of inspiration from Irish culture )!
For example, did you know that Sothis correspond to the Egyptian goddess Sopdet? She's the personification of the star Sirius, a reference to how Sothis come from space which lead to her being called "Fell Star" by the Agarthans. But more importantly, Sopdet is linked to the annual flooding of the Nile! It join how Sothis flooded Fodlan "In the land of Thinis, where the old gods are said to live, the False God has awakened. Its looming, heteromorphic vessel was resurrected to sink the world to the depths of the ocean. It will bring extinction to all children of men, and salvation to all beasts of the land, sky, and sea. [...] And soon, a flood aptly named Despair will drown this world. [...]" ( from the book "Romance of the World's Perdition" in the Shadow Library of the DLC ). Also, she's the goddess of the fertility brought to the soil by the flooding which tie with how Sothis created the Nabataean, the current humans, magic outside of Dark Magic and the crest. It's implied she created more than that in the book of Seiros ( it says she created all plants and animals ), but we can't take it by words with how the current Nabataeans rewrote the past to found the Church of Seiros to protect their kind.
For more crest lore personally I love this dialog from Linhardt A support with Byleth:
"Well, I don't see how Crests have much use in times of peace. Certainly there are Crests that make you stronger and could be used in engineering. And I suppose Crests that increase magical abilities might help doctors heal injuries... Still, the possibilities seem limited. It's as if Crests were designed to be used only in times of war. Their power meant to bring about death and destruction. I cannot prove what I say is true, but suppose for a moment that it is... The longer this war goes on, the more useful my Crest research becomes. But if the war were to end today, we would go on living, perhaps not using the power of our Crests at all."
( Very sorry for the unwanted ranting! I have no control over myself when it comes Fe3h lore )
Short answer: I'm just a little weirdo that gets hung up about weird details in games, and Fe3h has a lot of weird and interesting details. Long answer [and I might even talk about unrelated stuff too, sorry I don't often have the chance to talk about fe3h]: About fe3h, the game is surprisingly good at giving you just enough information to ask more questions, and then when you start paying more attention you're hit with more moments of "wait a second- what?" "That doesn't seem right." And part of that has to do with the fact that a lot of the time the information that characters give you [or Byleth] is somewhat unreliable, due to them either keeping vital information to them selves, they don't know the whole story, they're trying to manipulate you, or they're outright lying to you.
I remember I had a lot of hang-ups about Dimitri blaming Edelgard for what happened in Duscur because I had a hard time believing that a fourteen year-old would be able to orchestrate the assassination of a foreign nation's king [especially when considering the timeline of events for Edelgard herself]. However, in Dimititri's case his perception of the truth was warped by multiple factors. Such as his severe lack of sleep and rest, possible malnutrition, his abysmal emotional state, implied schizophrenia [or something like it idk I'm not a doctor], and the fact that Edelgard was, indeed, working to kill him and all of his friends for a year. It's not so much that he logically believes it or that Edelgard was responsible for Duscur, it's that he had to fight her anyway, and her involvement with it may as well make her responsible. [still kinda bullshit but it makes sense as to why he's being the way he is]
A better example would have been how Tomas/Solan tries to manipulate Claude into thinking that there was some kind of church conspiracy with information about the immaculate one only for Claude to later stop listening to him after he found out who Solan really was and what he wanted. But that was one of the things that were solved in-story which left me less room to chomp on and obsess over. [not a bad thing- this is good story writing.]
The other reason is that sometimes the writers mess something up but depending on what that is it can be more interesting to find an in-universe reason why something doesn't add up. For instance the whole thing about the Red Canyon. It's implied to be called that because the Nabateans were genocides there. The funky thing there is that Nabatean blood isn't red, it's green. What this can imply is a few things, that Nabateans have red blood in a human form, or there was a mistranslation somewhere between the Nabateans and the humans they worked with, or it was deliberate [which makes more sense now that I think about it]. Basically, it was probably called something along the lines of "bloody canyon" or something due to the tragedy that happened there, but it got changed to red canyon because The saints [or just Rhea/Sieros] wanted to both keep the history a secret, but also wanted memorialize what happened.
The game is filled with little stuff like this that give me so many little brain worms, and that tends to be the start of it. The rest of it comes with me mentally writing fanfic with an oc and I start to go: "Like what are their bathrooms like, how does the plumbing systems work, what tools are available, if magic exists how does it work, does magic still follow the law of conservation of mass, how does magic and using it affect the body, etc."
Like, the implicit stuff and the inspirations are definitely a factor, but it's primarily my little brain going off the rails and asking way too many questions that probably doesn't matter.

@whumptober Day 1: Safety Net | Swooning | "How many fingers am I holding up?"
Hubert didn't think anything was wrong after the battle. Things were going well against the Slitherers—Byleth's plan had gone well, and everyone was alive and safe.
Hubert met up with the rest of the Black Eagle Strike Force, before he started a head count. Lady Edelgard was there, along with her wife, Byleth. So was Bernadetta and Yuri. Even Caspar was here (though Linhardt had something to do with him being here instead of running off).
Everyone was here.
Except for…
"Ferdinand isn't here," Hubert pointed out, his heart nearly stopping as dread hit him. Where was Ferdinand? Was he alive? No. The last time he saw him, he was fighting against Thales. He seemed like he was handling himself well. Unless…
The mere idea of Ferdinand being captured or worse, killed, frightened Hubert more than he would like to admit. They were courting for just a few short months, and both of them promised that they would live for the other's sake before they officially marry. Ferdinand never broke promises he kept.
Edelgard gritted her teeth, glancing towards her wife, who's eyes were filled with concern. Byleth immediately spoke up, "Then we must split up and look for him. He should not have gone far."
Hubert merely nodded, before he teleported away to the last place he saw Ferdinand. Once he arrived, he saw the body of Thales lying on the ground, blood pooling around him… but no Ferdinand in sight.
Where was he?
"Ferdinand?" Hubert called, glancing around. Shambhala was quite a large area, but Hubert knew that Ferdinand didn't go very far, with Thales now dead. He had to be nearby.
"Ferdinand!" Hubert called again, his heart pounding. Did one of the Slitherers get his lover? No. Ferdinand was strong enough to handle them. He wouldn't go down that easily. …Right?
"Ferdie!" Hubert screamed, desperation in his voice now. Surely him calling Ferdinand by his pet name would catch the ginger's attention.
Silence. But he heard a moan from somewhere.
"H-Hubie…?" Ferdinand's voice was weak, scaring the raven haired man more than needed. What happened to Ferdinand?
Hubert glanced around, looking for any sign of his beloved. "Ferdie! Where are you?!" He cried, his heart pounding so hard he swore he would have a heart attack.
Clang
Hubert jumped at the sound from behind him, before he turned. A lance—Ferdinand's lance—laid on the floor, and Hubert could see the bloody fingerprints on the handle.
Hubert rushed up to the lance, glancing over it for a moment before turning his head to the left. In between two buildings was a flash of long orange hair, blood pooling around the body. Sticking out of the body's shoulder was an arrow radiating a purple glow.
Hubert gasped. It was Ferdinand. And he was hit with a poison arrow.
"Ferdie!" Hubert cried, forgetting the lance as he rushed towards his fallen love. He knelt down to Ferdinand when he was close enough, before cradling his broken body in his arms. He was careful not to tousle his wounded shoulder, as he looked over the ginger's pale face.
"H-Hubie…" Ferdinand whispered, his voice cracking due to the sheer pain he was feeling. He breathed heavily, trying to fight to stay awake.
"Ferdie, dammit," Hubert cursed, helping Ferdinand's head so it would lay on the mage's lap. He brushed away orange, sweat stained hair from Ferdinand's face as he tried to keep his own breathing under control. He shouldn't be panicking now. He had to get Ferdinand help, and fast.
He lit up a Fire spell, before he threw it up in the air. The spell exploded once it hit its furthest point, the embers flying everywhere. Surely, one of the Black Eagle Strike Force members would see it and rush to their aid.
"H-Hubie…" Ferdinand gasped, tears now pricking at the corners of his eyes. Hubert gritted his teeth—seeing his beloved in that much pain broke his heart in many pieces.
"Shh," Hubert whispered. "Don't talk, Ferdie. We'll get you help."
Seeing Ferdinand's heavy breathing and his struggle to stay awake made Hubert worry the more time passed. Where was Edelgard? Byleth? With so many members of the Black Eagle Strike Force, someone had to see the signal by now.
"Ferdie," Hubert spoke, his voice firm. He moved slightly so he could hold one hand up for Ferdinand to see. Hubert held up three fingers, before he asked him, "Ferdie, how many fingers am I holding up?"
Ferdinand looked at his hand, squinting at it. Hubert gritted his teeth. Not a good sign at all.
"F-four?" Ferdinand guessed. "I-I cannot tell."
DAMMIT.
Hubert knew that Ferdinand was at the late stages of the poison. He needed to get him help, and soon.
"Hubert!" Hubert recognized the feminine voice of Edelgard a few feet away. "Did you find Ferdinand?!"
Hubert breathed a sigh of relief. Finally. Help had arrived.
"Yes!" Hubert called. "But he's been poisoned! Do you have Linhardt or Manuela with you?!"
"Both of them are here with us," Edelgard answered, her voice closer now. "Hold on! We're coming!"
Hubert merely nodded, taking Ferdinand's hand. He glanced down at his beloved, frowning as he squeezed the ginger's hand slightly.
"H-Hubie…" Ferdinand croaked, tears now falling down his face. "I-it hurts…"
"I know, love," Hubert soothed, "just keep your eyes open for me."
"S-s-so tired…" Ferdinand whimpered, hiccuping as he tried to hold in a sob.
"Ferdie, look at me," Hubert spoke in a firm tone. Ferdinand slowly glanced up at his love to meet his eyes, though Hubert could tell he was struggling. "I need you to stay awake, okay? Linhardt and Manuela are coming."
"I-I-I…" Ferdinand whimpered. "I'm trying…"
His voice was growing soft, and Hubert gulped as his heart pounded in his chest. Ferdinand didn't have much time left—each minute that passed, Ferdinand grew weaker. Where were Linhardt and Manuela? Dammit, where were they?! They should be here by now! How much longer—
"There they are!" Linhardt's voice broke Hubert's panicking thoughts. Hubert could hear footsteps approaching before Manuela and Linhardt appeared. When Linhardt saw how much blood Ferdinand had lost, and how some of it was discolored, he nearly fainted on the spot. Manuela glanced at him, her eyes indicating that Ferdinand needed help now. Linhardt, understanding the look, nodded weakly before he and Manuela rushed forward to the duo. Manuela helped Hubert pick up Ferdinand, carefully pulling out the arrow. Ferdinand hissed as the arrow was fully out of his shoulder, and blood sputtered from the wound. The blood looked more purple than red, which Hubert gritted his teeth in disgust. He had made poisons to kill people, yes, but he had never seen the poison get to this stage.
As soon as the arrow was pulled out, Linhardt took that moment to cast a healing spell to heal the wound. He looked away, nearly gagging at the look of the blood as he did so. Once the wound was nearly closed up, Manuela wrapped a small white cloth around Ferdinand's shoulder, and she could see the blood seeping from the wound. She helped Hubert bring Ferdinand back to the group, who all looked on in worry.
"Ferdinand…" Edelgard gasped, a hand over her mouth.
"He'll be just fine," Manuela reassured, "his body needs to get rid of the poison before he can heal properly. For now, we need to go back to the monastery."
Hubert sighed in relief. Finally, Ferdinand was going to get the help he desperately needed. He looked down at his love, seeing that he was unconscious. But his face was starting to gain a little more color. That was a good sign, at least…
_____
Three days. It was an agonizing three days for Hubert. He knew that Ferdinand would survive the poison, but he couldn't help but worry over him.
He sighed, trying to look over the paperwork he was working on to no avail. Whenever he tried to focus, his thoughts returned to Ferdinand. He knew that Manuela and Linhardt could take care of him, but Hubert's intrusive thoughts kept coming back. What if Ferdinand had complications and died? He couldn't live without his beloved, especially since this whole thing was entirely his fault.
"Promise me you'll stay alive so we can marry, Ferdie."
"As long as you do the same, Hubie."
He remembered that promise oh so clearly. Ferdinand never broke promises; surely he would keep fighting for their sakes… right?
A knock on the door interrupted his thoughts. He shook his head to get rid of his thoughts before he turned his head to the door.
"Who is it?" He called.
"It's me, Manuela," the feminine voice called. "May I come in, Hubert?"
Manuela. That meant that something had happened to Ferdinand. Hubert gulped down the lump in his throat that kept coming back. Did that mean that Ferdinand was…
"Come in," Hubert spoke, waving a hand at no one in particular.
Manuela entered then, her hair messy and her clothes disheveled—apparently, she was working herself to the bone trying to keep Ferdinand alive. She sighed, wiping off the sweat from her brow before smiling.
"He'll live," she spoke.
Hubert's heart skipped a beat. Ferdinand was going to live? He had never thanked Sothis for miracles, but this time, he quietly did so. Ferdinand was going to live. He would be okay.
"He needs more time to rest," Manuela said, "his body is currently flushing out the poison in his system, but he will be fine."
Hubert merely nodded, a small smile cracking on his face. Oh, thank Sothis.
"...Can I see him?" Hubert asked, his mind begging, hoping, that she would say yes.
She nodded, to which Hubert mentally sighed in relief. "Just note that he's still out of it."
"Thank you," Hubert only said, before he rushed out to the infirmary. He had to see Ferdinand now—paperwork be damned.

Upon seeing Ferdinand's pale face, Hubert's heart nearly stopped. He looked so deathly ill, and yet he was still smiling in his sleep. How in the world can this man deal with such pain and still smile? Hubert had to admit he was quite strong for that.
"Ferdie?" He asked, an intense frown on his face.
Ferdinand startled from his slumber, his head turning to face his lover. He smiled, but Hubert could tell it was strained. His eyes were half-lidded; tired as expected. "Hubie…" Ferdinand whispered. "You came to see me."
Manuela wasn't kidding that he looked out of it…
"Yes, of course," Hubert replied with a nod. "How… are you feeling, Ferdie?"
"Sick," Ferdinand chuckled, but stopped when a coughing fit began. He was even gagging; Hubert guessed that he had been vomiting up the poison, judging by the bucket near his cot. "But Manuela and Linhardt said that I'll be up and about in a few days. So don't worry about me, love."
"Ferdie…" Hubert sighed, guilt hitting him. While he was glad that Ferdinand had survived the entire ordeal, his guilt remained. If only he came with Ferdinand to fight Thales; he would have protected him from the poison arrow. Ferdinand wouldn't have nearly died.
"Don't blame yourself, dear," Ferdinand's voice broke his train of thought.
Hubert shook his head to get rid of his thoughts. "Wh-what?"
"I know what you're thinking," Ferdinand said. "You think it was your fault. It's not, Hubie, I promise."
"Still…" Hubert trailed off for a moment. "I should have come with and protected you. Then you—"
"None of that, Hubert," Ferdinand gently scolded, his voice firm. "If anything, it was Thales and the Slitherers who caused this, not you. They're gone now, so there's no need to worry about them. So no more blaming yourself, okay? I hate to see you beat yourself up over something not under your control."
Hubert sighed, closing his eyes for a moment. Yes… Ferdinand was likely right. "...All right. As long as you're still with us—with me, I'll stop."
"Good!" Ferdinand chuckled, his smile growing wider.
Hubert sat with Ferdinand for a few minutes, occasionally placing a hand on the ginger's forehead while talking nonsensical things.
"Is there something you need, Ferdinand?" Hubert asked.
"You being here is enough for me." Ferdinand replied with the same smile Hubert loved so much.

I didn't know you played fe3h! If you've got the time, I'd love to hear your thoughts about the game, favorite character, favorite house, etc! Have you played any of the other Fire Emblem games?
HI YOU UNLOCKED PANDORA'S BOX I WILL NEVER SHUT UP ABOUT FE3H GIVEN THE CHANCE.
I love love LOVE it. Recently I only play on hard or maddening mode, usually with New Game+, because I actually really enjoy the "repetitive" nature of the combat and playing on a more difficult level requires me to think a little bit more about tactics + makes me feel more accomplished when I level up or unlock a support chain. Otherwise I think some characters are like. Totally broken in how strong they are and it lowkey makes the combat portion of the game less technically rewarding.
Favourite character just on an overall basis is by far Dedue and it's not even close. I love everything about him and could base an entire post on him alone. I think he's so complex and his relationship with Dimitri (and the entire Blue Lions house, really), beyond just my shipping of them, is so zealous and important to me as a narrative. When I unlocked their final support and it's revealed to us that Dedue, in his heart, has always wanted the same thing as Dimitri - to be able to call him a friend, to be able to call Dimitri by his name, as equals, argh I could cry just thinking about it. He is so kind hearted, he is so gentle, he is so funny, he is so Good. (CF route Dedue doesn't exist to me because if he Did then I would be in a catatonic state of sadness for the rest of my life, and SS/VW Dedue also makes me too sad to think about, but AM Dedue, cries, all his supports are really so very interesting)
And then in no order past that, my favourites are Dimitri, Sylvain, Felix, Petra, Edelgard, Hilda, and Linhardt. (Ok maybe it's a little bit in order...) Gameplay wise especially I love Dimitri and Hilda, I think they're utterly overpowered, and I recruit Felix no matter what house I go into... Felix is like my easy win when it comes to battle, he simply dominates. Half the time he is my MVP because I send him off alone knowing he'll do the vast majority of the work without ever getting hit back lol
My favourite house is so obvious through my favourite characters - I'm just too partial to the Blue Lions, I'M SORRY I'M SORRYYYYY they have the Faerghus Four... and DimiDue... and Sylvix... and Mercedes my forever wife (I literally marry her EVERY TIME... my big booby nurse wife)... and Ashe who is my underdog archer 5ever... All the support chains in Blue Lions makes my heart really fluttery and happy, I think they feel overall like the house that is closest to each other? Ingrid and Felix have their issues with Dedue (though to be fair Felix has a grand issue with everybody in the beginning except Annette it seems LMAO) but I think barring that (which gets mostly resolved anyway) I think they're a very tight-knit group with mutual love and care for one another in a way that seems inherent to the house. Those things seemed to be needed to be honed a little bit more in the other houses through exposure to each other and effectively experiencing the war together. I think the Golden Deers, to me, felt the coldest to each other in the beginning.
Which brings me to say that my next favourite house would have to be the Golden Deers. They are so, so, so, so damn funny and lonely and nuanced and the dynamics within the house are so animated and chaotic, WAY more than the other houses. I blame Claude, Hilda, and Lysithea's presence LOL, both of whom I love deeply - I think the GD's make for an incredibly funny ensemble cast and Lorenz's general existence is like a threat to human kind I'm mostly obsessed.
And then it would be the Black Eagles. The Beagles have some of my favourite support chains in the game, I really love them. I can't explain it briefly, but there's something that feels very poignant and heavy about playing the BE house. For me it's a very different experience than playing the other houses because the relationships they build feels so tied to past and emerging pains that there feels to be a perpetual tension even after I finish playing (and, again, I always recruit Felix so the BE/CF route becomes EXTRA trauma central, Felix's dialogues are actually heartbreaking in this route and I am still not normal about from the first time I had to face the fact of WHAT I DID TO HIM WHEN I RECRUITED HIM TO THE CF ROUTE...) Also Beagles has Caspar/Dorothea support chain and it actually makes me howl laughing every time I go through it. I love Caspar.
Quick irrelevant side note, it's still stupid to me we couldn't bring Jeralt back. I honestly never care to complain about "lazy writing" for games like this because there's SO MUCH WRITING to be done that like, yeah, fine I get that Jeralt had to die, but "it's fate" doesn't cut it for me. I'd rather Jeralt died away from Byleth so that Byleth had absolutely no possibility of reviving Jeralt or even trying to save him.
Another side note, Felix not being able to have MLM endings is the biggest mistake the game ever made. How do you write one of your gayest characters to be straight. And you know what, on that note, I don't believe in Bi Linhardt either - we need more bi guys in general and then Linhardt should be gay, NO WOMAN deserves to deal with his BS lmao.
Last side note, F!Byleth is the real Byleth. I only ever play M!Byleth on my CF routes because I always marry Linhardt and he is strictly MLM to me fhufhskdjf
I haven't played the other Fire Emblem games but I have plans on playing FE: Awakening and maybe FE Warriors: Three Hopes if only to see DimiDue interacting again with new support chains :3c I watched it already but I want to earn it.... Ask away if somehow there is something I DIDN'T cover - thank you a million times for the ask, I love FE3H so very deeply and will always talk about it given the chance....

Except Edelgard does care about Crest, to say otherwise shows you don't know shit about her backstory. The experiments that lead to her having two Crests, remember? You also seem ignorant to Edelgard's goal, since she also wants to take down the whole concept of nobility. For people's positions to be decided by merit, not blood.
Her Crest shit is there, yes, but it's hilariously overshadowed by her want to forcefully unite Fodlan back under Imperial rule, and to kill the Nabateans. That is what she repeatedly says she wants to do on CF, with most of her "get rid of Crests" motivation falling to the hard wayside once the timeskip hits - it's only really talked about in optional supports, not in the main story.
And that's what she says she wants, but she shows basically no results in actually making that happen, unlike the other two lords who do accomplish what they wanted to do (make the people more important/restoring Duscur, and eradicating prejudice between two continents)... which is probably because of all the shit that happens with her/her route.
She handcrafts a position of power that only one person could ever apply for or even want, because she wanted to make sure she can get a use out of Linhardt's smarts despite him repeatedly telling her to go away (and despite Hanneman literally being right there with the drive and want to do something exactly like she wants Linhardt to do - she can support him, even! But she never offers him a similar position). After Linhardt dies, it would become pretty much completely useless since it was made to only ever fit specifically Linhardt. Bernadetta and Caspar both become the leaders of their respective households, even on CF despite neither of them being anywhere near qualified or otherwise suited to be in those positions (as shown by both of them needing their potential spouses to do the paperwork for them in multiple endings). Lorenz and Sylvain's endings where their children inherent their positions are completely unchanged on CF, despite Edelgard's wanting "people's positions to be decided by merit, not blood." Edelgard takes the credit for Byleth’s leadership because she doesn’t want to look bad as emperor. Even in the added support chain where Edelgard goes over what she specifically wants to do to make change to nobility happen, the ending for it makes literally no mention at all that she 1) did anything, or 2) did anything that worked.
None of that encapsulates a want for people’s positions to be chosen by merit; much of that is in fact the opposite of that, regarding the nepotism and the straight up “no you are not getting credit for your work, I am because I am the emperor.” At best, she failed at getting what she wanted to do, and at worst she didn't really care that much about changing anything regarding the nobility. She got what she wanted when she unified Fodlan back under Adrestia's banner and when she got rid of the Nabateans, so the rest is whatever.
Now I know your bias. Edelgard didn't lie about the origins about the Crests, she doesn't know the full origin of the Crests. The whole point of Three Houses is how none of the leaders see the full picture. You are full of shit.
See now, the issue with "none of the lords come to see the full picture" comes in when one of the lords... literally claims to know the full picture, reveals their picture to be completely wrong, is neither corrected nor interested in confirming their picture, and has that picture be a core motivator for throwing an entire continent into a five-year-long war.
Edelgard says that she is passed down the truth of Fodlan's history through the Super Secret Imperial Telephone, but when you look into what she says you realize that she twists literally everything to make Rhea/the Nabateans look as horrible as possible. Nemesis - the one who committed genocide and ruled Fodlan tyrannically - is consistently portrayed as a hero of humanity, and Rhea - the one who fought to protect her family and the people of Fodlan - is consistently portrayed as the villain, who murdered Nemesis, stole the Relics from humans, and ruled over all of Fodlan with malicious intent, all over “a simple dispute” in Edelgard’s words. So sure, yeah, Edelgard isn't lying when she talks about this stuff; she does genuinely believe it. Which is the entire problem, considering that she's wrong and considering that it's this subject that is partially motivating her to instigate a continent-wide war.
You never actually played Crimson Flower, huh?
I have. And watched others play it. And read through the datemine of CF. Nice guess tho lmao

Cindered Shadows Ch 6 - End
It's going to feel sooooo good to have this finished. Because after this, I'll have beaten all of Three Houses content and can focus on Warriors.
STORY
I feel so bad for Balthus, Hapi, and Constance. Betrayal sucks. Like, I'm sure Yuri has some excuse or whatever we'll learn later, but it must hurt for them now.
So how did Aelfric find all these crest people if they kept it such a secret?
Constance being like, this background is too ugly for me to die in!
Glad Balthus is rightfully angry about this.
I realllly hope there's more to it than "I have yer mom! Yergh!" from Aelfric and Yuri. Because there's just not enough time left for a proper "rebuild trust" arc if that's all that's going on because like . . . why not just tell them??
Aelfric is batshit 🤣😂 🤣😂
Wait, is that green-haired lady Byleth's mom?? I thought I remembered something about that.
OMG - AELFRIC IS SNAPE OMG 🤣😂 🤣😂 But like unhinged!Snape.
These guys are way more forgiving than I would be about this.
I really cannot follow Yuri's thought process here though. Like for a guy who talks non-stop about "I've been though all this tough shit" and everyone is like "he's o so cunning" when someone held his mom hostage for a situation that would result in him dying, his friends dying, and having to betray everyone his grand plan was . . . nothing?? Just go along with everything Aelfric said?
Oh, his grand plan was, Byleth. I should've known, lamo. The flames in the background behind him look badass though.
I mean, why is Aelfric surprised.
I don't know why he didn't just come clean to Rhea and/or Byleth though. Like, he could've at least told them where it would take place . . .
Still, if I were one of Yuri's friends, I'd slap him and never talk to him again after this. But I'm very bad with grudges.
Constance is the only sane one. Yuri's like, our lives are getting drained by a madman and our only hope is a mercenary who doesn't know where we are find us, but like don't panic because I have - a plan! Which like, tell them what it is for once, dude.
Seems like they borrowed a lot from what people say about Claude (but doesn't seem actually true) and put it into Yuri? Like, oh, he's a genius schemer you can't trust.
BATTLE
My brother warned me about this chapter. Saying prayers that Constance and Hapi don't prove too hard to keep alive since they're wayyyyy more fragile than Balthus and don't dodge like Yuri.
Poor Linhardt not wanting to watch the blood. Dimitri distressed that people are in danger.
Yuri, your plan fucking sucks.
OMG it does damage to everyone. I want Mercedes with Fortify back.
I could kiss Dimitri right now. Everyone else is fucking useless, doing like 8 damage to Aelfric, missing every hit, and he's over here doing 44 damage and actually hitting shit. This is king behavior, Claude better take some fucking notes (he was utterly useless against Aelfric).
Dimitri MVP. Yes. No one else was even a possibility.
And, like, the funny thing, that Dimitri's maybe like 1 or 2 levels ahead of Claude, Ashe, and Hapi, yet they all did jackshit to kill Aelfric with their puny 4x2 damage - at most - and missing 75% and 85% chances, while Dimitri's over here telling Aelfric to eat shit and die.
STORY
Aelfric is surprised that we're fighting him. He's delusional.
I guessed right, though, it's Byleth's mom.
Dimitri's like that's not a two decade old corpse, dude.
Aelfric's motivation is sooooo, yeah.
Rhea's like shut up. I'm not explaining myself to you. That's also King behavior.
Dimitri, once again, being the person worrying about others, concerned the wolves are too injured to fight.
Oh, good, Balthus punched Yuri. Deserved. Also King behavior. So now we're up to three kings.
Nice to see everyone calling Yuri out for not trusting his friends. If only Claude would've gotten the same treatment. It actively makes me less angry with Yuri BECAUSE he got called out. It's nice when you get to release that emotion through characters. If only Crimson Flower took notes.
Aelfric is . . . really pathetic. Not for supporting her with Jeralt, that's great actually, but like . . . everything else is . . . yeah.
Oh, 21 years ago. Guys, we know Byleth's age!!! So Byleth's only a few years older than the students, probably younger than some of them.
No matter how hard they try, I'm just going to find this pathetic.
Rhea sounds like an angry mom at a child that won't stop playing video games and not doing their homework.
Everyone's like, stop, this isn't going to work, but Aelfric is . . . yeah. Channeling his inner Orson I guess.
Oh, he's finally one with his love, as a beast, lamo.
Dimitri's delivery on that last line, that little shake, he sounds scared, and now I'm super pissed at Aelfric.
Good on Yuri for taking responsibility for this mess. I don't blame this all on him, but by him taking responsibility, more than he needs to, I'm more willing to forgive. Again, it's too bad Crimson Flower didn't take note.
And for some reason, we won't have playable Rhea in this chapter for no good reason. I don't even have to see the map to know that.
BATTLE
Final battle, let's go. I think my brother said the tiles move people around randomly in this chapter. Looking forward to that. Not.
I'm not worried about Dimitri, Edelgard, Yuri, Byleth, or Balthus, but everyone else . . . . Hilda, Ashe, and Claude can take a hit, but like only one or two and they don't dodge enough. But Linhardt, Constance, and Hapi - not looking forward to that. Esp Linhardt who infantry, the other two and likely run away at least.
BALTHUS HAS HEALING FOCUS - ARGHHH. WHY DIDN'T I CHECK THAT BEFORE I PLAYED THE LAST MAP. I feel like SUCH an idiot right now.
I like how Dimitri and Claude are encouraging caution. Dimitri should take not for himself about that though.
He's dead. Took a team effort, but we're through now.
Byleth MVP. Deserved.
WRAP-UP
I like how Sitri made a choice, and Rhea respected that choice.
So Rhea really did a magical heart transplant.
Man, if it's really Byleth's mom's heart in there, that just makes the line in CF about wanting to get rid of their nabatean blood even sadder.
Kinda creepy Rhea didn't just burry her though.
So is this cannon to the main plot? Because if it's not then it's funny imagining Aelfric trying to make his crush come back to life while there's a continent wide war going on.
So if the AW house is disbanded, then they join a main house now, right? Oh, Abyss is still around though.
Love how Rhea tells Yuri that he's slain the underserving and now has to deal with the guilt. This man and Dimitri need a support.
Approve of Constance going to Faerghus. Good for her.
I can't believe they're letting Hapi roam free though, with her weird power. IDK she seems dangerous to everyone alive.
Ashe sounds so dissapointed that Yuri's going back to being a thief or . . . whatever he was.
I had Byleth say he'd look after the Abyss, which after all the other stuff I had Byleth say (i.e. always ready to run away screaming), isn't exactly meaningful lamo.
Lamo, Dimitri assuming Claude's motivations aren't always selfish. He's always trying to assume the best about Claude.
This was pretty fun to play, actually. Makes me wish the maps and goals were a bit more creative in the main game. It was challenging without ever being frustrating. Though, I played Normal.
DLC is now finished. Feels good

I definitely agree that the sway of Byleth as a lot of weight for SS! But I don't think it's the only important factor? Because to me if it was the case, Claude and Dimitri would have their own SS: the fact that it's specific to Edelgard do seems means something about the Eagles loyalty toward her.
Edelgard don't feel betrayed in Silver Snow nor did she trusted the other Eagles? Can you give specific dialog? To me Silver Snow, at least regarding Byleth and other student is kinda just what she expected to happen?
I do think the Hubert point has to be nuanced: Hubert is only one person in Edelgard huge lack of positive relationship, and more widely Edelgard truly awful situation. Edelgard is constantly watched by her abuser, she has to constantly worry that people she met could very much be TWSITD agent, ... Yes, she has someone to rely on but comparatively she has countless ennemies on her track ( unlike Claude who has mostly potential enemy, or indirect ennemies that have in no way the same weight as TWSITD or Aegir for example ). So yeah, while Claude and Edelgard trust issue are different in certain ways, I don't think Claude trust issue can be a point as to why found family is a fundamental trope of VW and not of CF?
For the inherent respect as a leader I'm sorry to have missed what you meant! But while you're right that Claude as the thoughest situation, the other lord don't take the respect as granted? The role of Emperor is now a puppet leader and the Prime Minister is supposed to hold the true power, Edelgard certainly does have to work for the respect and the amount of power she has in CF: she has to rely on TWSITD and make alliance with Caspar and Linhardt father for example. Even Dimitri who clearly has the best position of the three when it comes to natural respect has the whole Rufus affair!
For Ferdinand a the reason behind him being rival who don't litteraly seek to take her power, it's because he already has power over her so I don't think it's necessarily a strong point? Because of the insurrection, she's the puppet leader, he's the one with the actual power. And Edelgard noble connection are small and actually very unimpactful. Especially compared to Dimitri who has his actual group of childhood friend and adoptive fathers
How is Edelgard not inherently untrusting compared to Claude and Hubert? I mean, they made a choice to give one lord the line about being so untrusful they can't even trust themselves, they made SB about the hardship of trusting unlike GW where Claude surprisingly trust Shez to some extent quickly? I genuinely don't see how she has less trust issue, or at least less deep, and to me it kinda wouldn't make sense with her backstory ( especially on the Hubert comparison )?
I'm sorry for all the misunderstanding too, I hope I'm not too rude- And really if my ask bother you or take too much time to respond I really won't mind if you don't respond ^^" Thanks you for taking your time in any case
First of all anon, let's clear something up! I ADORE your asks! You're not rude at all, I really, genuinely enjoy disagreeing with you, if that makes sense? You're clearly super passionate about Three Houses and talking about this game with someone who is super passionate is really fun for me! And don't worry about how long it takes me to respond to you lol--which is very ironic considering this response took nearly twenty days when I normally reply within eight hours (finals hit hard D:) --because I love doing it! You're genuinely a bright spot in my day!
Now, to the rest of your ask!
So for me, the reason why Claude and Dimitri don't have a "Silver Snow", as you put it, is because thematically they don't really "need" one. The type of conflict dealt with by Claude and Dimitri both personally and politically doesn't require an additional route to explore, and also, Silver Snow is much more the Church route then it is the oppositional-Edelgard route. I think Silver Snow branches from Edelgard's route because that's the most interesting place to put it. As personally as Dimitri's route gets with Edelgard, he isn't her true opposition; Rhea is.
And thus for me, the Silver Snow route says much more about Rhea, Edelgard, Seteth, and Byleth, then it does the Eagles. I definitely think it says something about the Eagles-- that they don't appreciate Edelgard's methodology and could be convinced to opposed her (and have mixed feelings about them) puts them in a very similar boat to Claude, who is most frequently compared with Edelgard. However, when removed from the context of SS/CF (and thus, recruitment ignored, away from Byleth's influence), all of them do show up at Edelgard's side, and are willing to die for her. I think, similarly to the other routes, their relationships are different and more strained, but ultimately without the influence of Byleth they are loyal to Edelgard (and the Empire) in a way that can't be ignored.
"Edelgard don't feel betrayed in Silver Snow nor did she trusted the other Eagles? Can you give specific dialog? To me Silver Snow, at least regarding Byleth and other student is kinda just what she expected to happen?"
No, you're absolutely correct here, I definitely misspoke. If I were to try and correct what I said...I don't think Edelgard felt betrayed by the other Eagles, but perhaps, disappointed? It's a conclusion I come to from seeing her in CF more than anything else, frankly, because (and I'll elaborate on this a few paragraphs down), I see Edelgard as a very desperate person. She is desperate to trust even as she views everyone with suspicion, two traits that seem more diametrically opposed then they really are.
Go back into trust issues (and the leadership points), I think there is no "better" or "worse" when comparing Edelgard and Claude's trust issues, just "different." Edelgard's trust issues cause her to put on a front of suspicion, but it's not a strong one. This is the result of two things: her trauma, and Hubert. Edelgard has a peer she can trust anything and everything with (and this is a good thing for her), and that includes vetting people. Even with the Professor, Edelgard grows fond of her quickly, and begins to trust her (implied by game mechanics to really, really start at C+ but also scene in other routes the fondness really does carry), but Hubert holds off on Byleth until she makes that critical choice to go against the church. This to me symbolizes a sort of "safety" net that Edelgard has with Hubert? Further on her relationship with Byleth, Edelgard's trauma does result in her putting on a front of suspicion (which makes it no less apart of her, but rather something she deliberately does to protect herself), but I think Edelgard is just desperate for someone to reach out to her.
I haven't talked about this before, but I think one of the things that highlights the differences between Edelgard and Claude and also their trust level, is the concept of "adults." This affects Dimitri as well, but as a "rule" in three houses if something majorly affects two house leaders it affects the third in less dramatic/major ways. That is to say, that while Edelgard has never had an adult/authority figure she could rely on, Claude has. And while Claude has never had the ability to rely on a peer, she has. Edelgard removes the old guard almost completely when she rises to power, only compromising, as you said, with Lindhardt and Caspar's parents. She replaces everyone she can't rely one with people she can rely on, because she's learned the hard way through what happened to her and her family. Claude, on the other hand, had his parents. They raised him to be self sufficient and to survive in a world that hated him. Later, Claude had his grandfather, and now has Judith and Nader (who trained him in childhood). He had no peers and no friends until he arrives at the Academy. As a result, Claude simply...lives with the discomfort. He deals with the reverse of what Edelgard went through; instead of living with people who have harmed you, he experienced harm from other people and now is forced to be around people who think the same way and thus could harm him in the future. Whereas Edelgard clears out the rot and only compromises where she has to, Claude is a being of compromise. It's not just that he distrusts others, it's that others fundamentally distrust him.
Edelgard's place as the next Emperor is never in doubt. It just isn't. What really shows this off to me, is the silver snow cutscene in which the flame emperor is blatantly backtalking to the Agarthans! Talking about how she doesn't approve of what they've doing and how they're going to pay--to me it was really effective at showing off how well they were at manipulating her because there is a reason Edelgard goes after the Church first and not the people responsible for her own personal tragedy. It's never in doubt in the Crimson Flower route that Edelgard will be Emperor. She never doubts it. To better compare her and Dimitri to Claude--he's basically a bastard to the Alliance. Sure, Edelgard is at risk of being undermined and turned into a puppet leader, but the fact that she will be that leader is objectively not up for debate. Edelgard is not afraid of the people in the Empire (non-Agarthan) who caused the coup, and she's relatively easily able to steamroll over them. Edelgard has stability in her place in the world--her place has been custom made, after all, as the only survivor of her siblings. In a way, it's also what makes her such a tragic figure--she has a lot less agency in her route then it feels because she's trying to make the best out of a bad situation.
Claude, on the other hand, is implied to be in a very precarious position. He can't pull off the stuff Edelgard does because Edelgard is an absolute monarch in a similar way to Dimitri. She is the Emperor and Dimitri is the King. Claude is the head of the von Reigan house, but the constant pressure and presence of Lorenz combined with Holtz's looming (if pleasant) figure in the background shows to the player that Claude is objectively replaceable. It's why his ultimate strategy during the time skip is to stall, to take advantage of the lack of unification in the Alliance (the lack of unification under him), in order to keep the Empire's eyes off of his people for the longest period possible.
So I think their trust issues are fundamentally different despite how similar Claude and Edelgard are!
Before I go to that, though, I'd like to address Ferdinand. That man has absolutely no power over Edelgard lol. Their support chain honestly makes me feel a little bad for him? The other two rivals--Lorenz and Felix--get deeper, more meaningful resolutions with their Lords but to me, personally, it feels like Ferdinand just accepts that Edelgard is better than him and becomes humble in a way that feels almost self-depreciating (esp. in their line progression if you have them pull weeds together the whole run, like me and my friend lol). Ferdinand has no idea about the coup, and he's a rather oblivious character--he believes it's his job to keep Edelgard in check, and he is only allowed to be Prime Minister because when she ousted his father, she chose to keep him there. Edelgard has so much power over Ferdinand it's crazy--both personal and political--and I don't necessarily think they have a "bad" relationship or anything I just think that Ferdinand has self esteem issues, lol, and weighs his own worth against hers which she isn't responsible for. I think you're underestimating Edelgard here--while Dimitri does have a lot of personal and political connections, so does she! There's a reason she's able to almost instantly obliterate the old guard, and that's because she has replacements like Ladislava and Randolph waiting in the wings. She's also able to keep on nobles like Lindhardt and Caspar's father's. Edelgard is a very powerful character, I think it just feels otherwise sometimes because she's so deeply affected by what happened to her as a child (as she should be) and unlike Dimitri it doesn't make her large and imposing if that makes sense.
Edelgard is jaded in a way Claude is not. I did not mean to make it seem like she was trusting because she absolutely tries not to be. Her trust issues are bone deep, and comparing her and Claude as "more" or "less" was not something I intended to do, it's just that they manifest differently. What they each want from people they could potentially trust is different: Edelgard is desperate to have someone reach out their hand to her, and Claude is desperate for someone not to slap his away when he does. Edelgard is drowning in the same way Dimitri is, emotionally. The Hubert thing was less of a comparison and more of an example of why Edelgard wants to trust someone so bad and appears to "slip" more than Claude does with her mask even though hers is a lot more obvious partially because she has Hubert. She does not have to do all her vetting herself, and I think that's very good for her.
I think the reason for me, why found family seems to be a much bigger theme in Verdant Wind then Crimson Flower, is again, partially because of the power structure less inherent in the Golden Deer house. Lorenz is visibly worn down over time through conversation with Leonie (our queen!) about commoners, and despite everything about Claude being inherently political, the Golden Deer manage to be peers in a way no one else is, because let's be real, Claude is an equal to the other nobles the way Edelgard and Dimitri can't be. It doesn't make him closer to the others--Hubert calls Edelgard only ever by respectful titles and I think if they were any closer they'd merge into a single soul lmao--but it puts him on a more level playing field. Mr. Leader Man is treated with a lot more humor than grandiosity, and characters like Leonie and Raphael really do result in the Golden Deer all feeling like they're equals even if you're conscious that they aren't. This, for me, makes it feel a lot more explicit when you get your found family forming, because in a big big way, it's forming completely from scratch. There's almost no real positive relationship between any of the Deer when the game starts! And I'm including Raph and Ignatz in it because of Ignatz's massive guilt! It makes that development very tangible, because it almost doesn't feel like a natural progression. For me, the theme is so prominent because it's about the formation of found family, although I think you could definitely argue that other routes have other aspects of found family more prominent.
I'm so sorry this took me so long anon!! Know I've been slowly working on this and thinking of you, lol!

Oooo Constance or any of the wolves?? 💖
Tumblr media
yes! constance! (i've been meaning to draw her for ages whoops)
I've had the dlc for two runs (vw and am, both hard) and idk if i'd ever play without constance again. She has two very specific features:
tied with lysithea for highest magic growth in the game
bolting
bolting is only learnt by constance (60% magic growth), hilda (25%), and manuela (35%). warlock/gremory gives +10% magic growth, giving constance a huge magic stat by the end of the game. her defences are horrible, but she shouldnt be getting attacked anyway.
by the time she's in warlock/gremory she can cast bolting four times, unless her crest of noa activates and she gets more uses, so she's able to completely remove four enemies per battle from across the map. I give her the ordelia sorcery co. battalion for +8 mag and +20 hit too, and thyrsus so she can hit from 5 range with her normal spells once she has S rank reason. She also gets fimbulvetr and agnea's arrow for increased power if needed. her weakness is powerful bosses with counter like the death knight, but otherwise she can one shot almost anything
I only ever bring one mage who can't learn physic per team, and it's constance now. She also has rescue, which isnt worth enough to get flayn a team spot, but it's really nice utility on constance.
I usually have her in warlock for bonuses to her black magic and double bolting castings, and then gremory for extra movement. With bolting I really don't need the utility of dark flier, and it's very rare that she gets so far from the fighting that she'd need it anyway (usually very spaced out maps, like the lysithea/ferdie paralogue)
anyway i really like constance
the other wolves:
balthus has a cool personality but other brawlers just tend to perform better for me, like byleth and felix (and he directly lost to cyril in the vw run)
hapi is... another linhardt. she has the same magic growth as him, and also learns physic and warp. she was a good replacement on my last run when he got bad magic level up rng in the early game and never recovered. i take her thru bishop just to get more heals and warps, and then end in gremory. she does not get dark spikes
yuri is good. in my first run with him he was a trickster. i made him a dancer last run and with sword avoid nothing can hit him. i wanna try the war master crit build i heard about.
these screenshots are from my first run with the dlc characters
Tumblr media Tumblr media
theyre good

#10 for the ask game you reblogged?
Oooooh that one is hard. Mostly because each character’s supports with each other have their good and weak points. In particular, I don’t believe there’s a specific chain of support convos that I think would be the best. On a similar note, some support chains that are super popular in the fandom left me underwhelmed- that is notably the case of Sylvain and Felix’s supports because from what I had heard beforehand, I expected… more. I am not a fan of Jeritza and Byleth’s supports either, though I know it is a very popular ship as well.
So, I don’t know if I can truly rank my favorite support convos but I’ll list some of them here:
Jeritza and Bernadetta’s supports took me by storm. I am absolutely in love with the strange wholesomeness of their interactions, so much that I managed to get their joint paralogue during one of my runs because I was so curious as to where it was headed.
Ashe and Annette’s supports when they get to the dark tower, then panic, then Annette loses her doll and Ashe confronts his fears head-on to get it back for her. Their friendship is absolutely adorable and I will never get over it.
Just Ferdinand and Hubert talking to each other. All the time. My beloved twin jewels of the empire <3
Ferdinand and Bernie’s supports, especially the B one where he goes to apologize to her, and respects her comfort zone by staying outside her door.
Byleth’s C support with Hubert. Come at me Hubert. Just try.
All of Marianne and Raphael’s supports. I love Raphael a ton in general, and his gentle nature is exactly what she needed. Perhaps the most wholesome supports of the game- and how could it not be when you’re trying to learn how to talk to birds?
Marianne and Shez’s supports in Three Hopes also hit me in the guts with the feels. They are just perfect. I love their bound.
Ignatz and Marianne’s A support when they watch the landscape together.
I was pleasantly surprised by how good Lorenz and Leonie’s supports were ! In all honesty, I was surprised by how nice of a character Lorenz is as a whole because I did not expect to like him very much.
Edelgard and Byleth’s supports because of course I would put them here.
CAN WE TALK ABOUT SHEZ AND LINHARDT’S A SUPPORT IN THREE HOPES. HELLO.
Also, I loved Shez’s supports with both Ferdinand and Hubert. Sidenote: Robbie Daymond and Billy Kametz’s voice acting in Three Hopes is the best thing in the whole Fire Emblem franchise.
“WhY dON’t wE HaVe a LiTtle DUeL oURsElvEs?!!!”
“Unless I… throw him in the fire too…”
Caspar and Mercedes’ supports in Three Hopes are just. How could I even begin to describe the level of perfection of their supports. I never knew I needed them.
There’s probably a ton more that I forgot but yeah ! I’m sorry I couldn’t give you a straight answer but yeah.^^

Purr hypothetical here but what do you think about an AU where Dedue and Hubert switched roles. Obviously, this means no Dimidue :( but from a logical perspective, Dedue had every reason to hate Faerghus enough to leave and perhaps Edelgard would snatch him up thinking he'd be a good ally who already hates Faerghus. Likewise, this uses the premise that house Vestra fled Enbarr post Insurrection of the 7 and Hubert grew up in Fhirdiad instead, thus becoming Dimitri's retainer now (1/2)
In this hypothetical scenario, what do you think it would be like for Edelgard and Dedue (plus Black Eagles and Dedue)? Likewise, how do the Blue Lions react to Hubert having grown so close with Dimitri over the years? Does Hubert "sacrifice" himself to save Dimitri from Cornelia in the same way, thus causing Dimitri to snap when Hubert is presumed dead? Does Dedue get so wrapped up in revenge against Faerghus that he's willing to declare war on the Kingdom/ally with the Empire now? Etc. (2/2)
I'm pretty sure I've been asked about this swap before, and I came to the conclusion that it'd be really hard to get to work logistically. Is Hubert still in love with Edelgard? How do her war plans even get going without him around to set them in motion (i.e. no Agarthan alliance, because Dedue certainly isn't going to propose that)? Are both Dimitri and Dedue angrier and more short-tempered by the time they get to the academy, because they haven't had each other to lean on?
Hubert's long game here would be manipulating Dimitri and encouraging his most violent impulses to direct him at Thales and the other Agarthans, so that he's free to work his way home to his lady who will be so grateful she'll totally put out; he shanks Cornelia in a dark alley as soon as he gets the chance and takes all her minions for his own, and properly takes over the role of evil advisor from there. Without an Agarthan liaison Edelgard proposes working with the church to take back Enbarr as she does in Three Hopes, but Dedue has little input as he's feeling lost and rootless and only knows that Edelgard claims that these shadowy manipulators are the ones behind the Tragedy of Duscur and the framing of his people (she tactfully declines to mention why they assassinated Lambert and framed the people of Duscur, as that might be inconvenient). Neither of them end up in a real retainer position in their new houses: Dimitri never really trusts Hubert (and trusts him even less as he comes to see the Imperial hand in the Tragedy), and Edelgard has little interest in elevating Dedue and was seriously considering not bringing him to the academy to the first place, as he cannot speak the language of Fódlan very well and can barely read or write. If nothing else, she thinks, it wouldn't hurt to have a bodyguard.
Neither of them fit in well in their new houses, either. All the other Lions are also suspicious of Hubert; Felix would have taken his presence as yet another sign of Dimitri's descent into boar-dom, except that Dimitri doesn't care for Hubert all that much himself. As for Dedue, he has a quiet but companionable bond with Petra that's hard to bridge with a partial language barrier, and he and Bernadetta work in the greenhouse together but never at the same time as she screams and runs away whenever she sees him. The others are even worse: Ferdinand declares him dull, Linhardt ignores him, Dorothea doesn't consider him a shining prospect, and Caspar only ever bothers him for sparring sessions.
Not that either Hubert or Dedue care however, as Hubert struggles to get his lady's attention - not at all helped by her mooning over the new professor who saved her during a botched hit on the other house leaders - and Dedue closes himself off to hold in his grief and anger. Dedue can't help but notice how the Lions are all wary or even openly hostile to him...except for their leader, who is curiously polite although not very chatty. The two of them slowly begin to open up to one another, helped greatly by Dimitri knowing a little bit of the Duscur language (to Dedue's surprise) and the quick understanding that both of them seek the perpetrators of the Tragedy and the vindication of the Duscur people.
Hubert doesn't notice how close they've grown until it's too late, busy as he is trying to get himself back in Edelgard's inner circle. A few strategic murders here, a few old family connections made...he rescues Monica and has her sent practically gift-wrapped to a largely indifferent Edelgard, and gets Jeritza named the new combat instructor, secretly at Edelgard's disposal, after the old one suffers a fortunate "accident." He is however dismayed to find that his plans for the prince of Faerghus appear to be unraveling as Dimitri and Dedue compare notes and continue to bond, calming each other in the process and focusing on an increasingly clear target.
Hubert, annoyed and ever more frustrated, makes his fatal error around the time that Dimitri and Dedue start having sex - not the traditional Faerghus brothers-in-arms handjobs and blowjobs that Hubert found so utterly bizarre, but the whole deal. He makes a move to kill Dedue, but Dedue overpowers and exposes him. Dimitri, enraged, is prepared to kill Hubert on the spot and even speculates that he might have been an architect in the Tragedy. Dedue, however, suggests a better idea.
Fifteen minutes later, Edelgard opens her dormitory door to Dimitri carrying a bound and gagged Hubert by the scruff of his neck, announcing to her that Dedue and Hubert are going to switch houses and that he'll see to the necessary paperwork with Seteth in the morning. Hubert attempts to grin fondly up his lady past the gag, but she only sighs and chides them all for interrupting a very important matter. None of them comment on the paintbrush in her hand, dipped in dark green paint of a shade that reminds them all of their blank-faced professor's hair.
The story plays out similarly to the prologue of Three Hopes from there, although things fare better for the Kingdom without Cornelia to stage a coup. All of Hubert's minions in Fhirdiad flock back to his side when he returns to the Empire, but as he'd had much less time to prepare for Edelgard's war they struggle more initially, and without Hubert's plans for handling the church or the Agarthans' Demonic Beasts they fail to take Garreg Mach. Dimitri meanwhile takes the throne and accomplishes everything he does in AG, only now without interference from Cornelia. Dedue remains at his side, naturally, having fulfilled Dimitri's observation in their Hopes A support that they'd always find each other no matter what their lives are.

Azure Gleam - Chapter 11
Alrighty, here we go, chapter 11!
Story
Sylvain says its a bit scary because they are trusting the Church a lot. Seriously, this weird mistrust in the Church is just dumb.
The Western Church is undergoing reform now. A new bishop will be chosen too.
Petra is not happy with the Empire and has decided that they will not be having a relationship with Brigid during her lifetime.
Some distrust of the Alliance. Even Shez is like “I don’t know, man.” Doesn’t help that Lorenz also agrees with him, saying that Claude is difficult to trust. So... there’s that.
Apparently Jeralt’s company is working under Randolph. Jeralt really has a poor sense of morality, huh?
Apparently Randolph doesn’t want to be part of the raids they are doing, according to an Imperial solider NPC who escaped. Even “turned a blind eye” to him escaping. Kinda hard to feel pity when the dude was a-ok with conquering before.
An NPC says that some Adrestian Nobles still care about the Empire’s wellbeing, and wishes there was a way we could work with them. I mean... I guess? But once again, it’s really hard to feel sympathy for people who are so ready to conquer. And they don’t seem to be trying anything to stop the Duke either.
Dimitri truly loved Patricia, according to Rodrigue, since she was the only mother he ever knew. Then Rodrigue says that this time, they are the invaders to the Empire. Technically true, but like.... it’s not equal, man, come on.
Felix, in his own way, expresses some concern that his father is running himself ragged. (Then points out that he doesn’t have any room to criticize since he is running ragged himself).
Aw, Hilda sent the Alliance crew a care package. Cute.
Lol, Yuri criticizes Balthus for buddying up with the Empire. Balthus takes it and hits it back, pointing out that Yuri worked for Rowe. Yuri implies he hated it and maybe didn’t have a choice? Oh well.
Annette: “Now we are invading. :(” Shez “They started the fight, what’s wrong with fighting back?” “Hmmm, I’m not sure that reasoning is convincing enough for me.”
Tumblr media
Literally why not, what else are we supposed to do, just twiddle our thumbs until the Empire kills itself off?
Some NPCS have changed their minds about the Church, having once believed they were a pile of garbage till they saved their life.
Another NPC admits to siding with the Empire originally since she believed they would win. Now she’s with the Kingdom for the same reason.
Marianne is concerned about Edelgard. Literally why, she started the war.
Of course, Dorothea is also worried about Edelgard. At least she is actually friends with her. But I’m getting really sick of this game gaslighting me and pushing Edelgard down my throat.
Oh, Hanneman appears in a side map! Fascinating, fascinating. So is Ladislava.
And now for the big chapter battle.
Seems like this is similar to the SB battle where a bunch of houses are together as one, except this time on the Empire’s side instead of the Kingdom one.
Dimitri reminds everyone that we are the invading force this time, so it makes sense that the houses are banding together to protect their livelihoods.
“Not after what we have done” Ashe, buddy.... they attacked first.
Dimitri comments that he knows that if they lost their way, he knows that everyone will help him come back from it. (YES! This is what AM was missing, so nice now).
Oh, we can recruit Linhardt and Constance this chapter? For some reason, I thought Linhardt would be later.
Looks like we are killing Duke Gerth. Kinda a shame, really. He’s actually a nice one.
Oh, Monica is here! Can I kill her?
Linhardt is a Holy Knight? Interesting. Oh also, Hanneman is here.
Linhardt says he doesn’t have it in him to kill Petra. Petra is way cutthroat though, kek.
Lol, Linhardt calls us cruel for beating him up first before we actually ask him to switch sides. He does kinda have a point, lol.
So we killed Baron Ochs. But not the other lords.
Manuela is here too, excellent.
Wait, we don’t kill Monica?! NOOOO
Ok, maybe we killed two more Empire lord. Still, low death count so far. Manuela just retreats too. Hanneman as well, And Duke Gerth. Not as devastating as the SB version was, which basically killed everyone except Annette, if you wanted to let her go.
At least this route has guilt, not even SB had that. They even recognize that while it sucks, if they just sit back it won’t be good in the long run.
Whoa, Felix just kinda defended Dimitri, saying not to put everything on him. That’s my boy.
Lambert also took the throne young (Rodrigue says too young).
Dimitri and Lambert are nearly identical, except Lambert had a shorter temper.
Rodrigue had hoped Felix wouldn’t have been like him so much. Both he and Felix can’t live without serving some sort of greater purpose. For Rodrigue, that was living to make sure he kept Lambert’s promise.
Rodrigue says that Dimitri needs someone to take his hand and pull him in the right direction. He says he needs a friend, not a retainer, to do that. I guess that’s their piss poor reasoning for why it has to be someone besides Felix or Dedue.
Whoa, Arval gave his stamp of approval of Rodrigue, calling him a wonderful man. And he’s RIGHT, DAMN IT.
Oh, hi there Randolph. Guess this is his time to die.
Basically, the Empire army is mostly reduced to scrabble competing to kill the most or whatever. All picked by Duke Aegir.
Randolph tells Jeralt that if he dies, his contract will be considered terminated and Jeralt will be free to stop supporting the Empire and it’s fall into depravity. If he wasn’t an invading force, I would almost respect him.
Time to march closer to Enbarr.
Paralogue
Dimitri, Rodrigue, and Sylvain Paralogue....
A Sreng attack is coming. The leader was a previous prisoner of war that Sreng had offered up. Despite the attack having killed Matthias’ first wife, he agreed to take the boy and treat him well. He taught him the language and the ways of Foldan. But the boy eventually ran back home, with all that knowledge to boot.
Dimitri finds it profound to be on the same battlefield that his father had been one once. Sylvain finds it uncomfortable that it’s still the exact same fight though.
Lol, it’s funny that only Felix is missing here, like the trio of the past (Margrave, Rodrigue, and the late king) versus Felix, Sylvain, and Dimitri.
Matthias’ first wife was a start pupil of the Black Eagle house, and a classmate of Rodrigue and Matthias. Matthias became known as the “Wall of Ice” after she was killed in the Sreng attack.
The Sreng Commander had been planning this for a while now. Seems to also be using the Margave’s tactics he had taught him years ago.
And he apparently knew Miklan and Sylvain personally as well, so he must have been there for quite a while.
After his defeat, the commander ran off. But before he did, he and Sylvain joked with each other a bit.
The Margrave feels upset, that he taught the man how to speak their language and educated them. But Dimitri says that that was how they managed to get through to him in the first place.
Sylvain wants to bring peace between the Kingdom and Sreng, even if it takes him his whole life. Sreng wants a port and warmer land, but the Kingdom already has little to spare. So Matthias has no idea how this could end in peace.
Matthias kinda stormed off. Despite calling Sylvain naive, he actually wonders to Rodrigue if he himself is actually the naive one. He agrees with Rodrigue that he will go apologize to Sylvain for what he had said to him.
Lambert had hoped to forge peace between Duscur and Sreng. He was unsuccessful with Sreng, but had been making strides with Duscur.
Dimitri hopes this will end in peace, especially since he wants to end the need for Relics.
And I guess he did because we got the Lance of Ruin! Wish we could actually SEE that scene but... Well, we kinda do in another route-ish? So, whatever.
While not an exciting battle, I liked the premise of the paralogue and what it had to offer to the story on the whole.
A little extra note here, but this commander is 100% Leif (from the book Military History of Partholon). He is technically a prince, although never named as such. Oleg, the Sreng chief, died when a large beast (likely the Wind Caller pissed that people were in his home, but it could have been another random beast) killed him. Leif is his grandchild, the youngest of Oleg’s son’s children.
Supports
Now that Rodrigue is back, we can get to his supports.
Shez and Rodrigue B - Shez wants to have a snowball fight after the war. But apparently, Kingdom snowballs fights are basically snowball wars.....Of course it is. So cute though, thinking about Rodrigue getting ambushed by Lambert. And Matthias is apparently a cunning snowball fighter. Then Ingrid’s dad came out of nowhere (he is much older than the others) and grabbed them by the scruffs of their necks and forced them to end the fight. Stinking cute.
Rodrigue and Dimitri A - They talk about Lambert’s death a bit. Then, Dimitri asks what would Rodrigue have done if Dimitri had died that day too. Rodrigue urges Dimitri to value his life, if he wants Rodrigue to value his own. Dimitri doesn’t want Rodrigue to die for him, he believes it would destroy him. It would be like losing his father all over again. Touching support.
Yuri and Dimitri B - Dimitri learns that the people aren’t just standing around waiting for handouts. He wants to be a ruler that listens to everyone. Yuri points out that before people can participate in the government, they need stability and food on the table. Stability, food -> no longer worrying about dying -> more willing to go get educated -> get educated -> can understand what they would want or need for their future more -> participate in government intelligently. Yuri offers his services to help Dimitri raise the funds needed for this process, but Dimitri refuses at first (mostly because Yuri is a known underground crime lord) but promises to consider it. Yuri promises that he would never do something underhanded in Dimitri’s name. I’ve wanted this support chain for years, and it has not disappointed.
Shez and Catherine A - Not a particularly exciting support. I don’t really have anything to say about it. Just a “put one foot in front of the other” support.
Sylvain and Ignatz B - That painting is from 200 years ago, around the time when the Officer’s Academy was founded. They think it might be a painting of the archbishop at the time, although wonder why she is painted in plain clothes. Apparently her rule was not long, because she “died” of illness. It is said birds mourned her loss? The woman also looks like Rhea (so it’s probably Rhea). They speculate that maybe the lady (Rhea) wanted to be represented in common clothes on purpose to be free of the trappings of her position, or maybe the painter wanted to represent how she cared about the poor and downtrodden. A sneaky support about Rhea in the end. Has me wondering, though, why Rhea faked her death by illness 200 years ago.
Ingrid and Marianne B - Ingrid grew up around Pegasi, which are basically horses on wings. Why tf is Ingrid so suddenly incapable of being around her horse properly. And why are they talking still, go fucking save your friend on the battle field!
Felix and Raphael A - Felix goes hunting for boar. Kinda cool that this support calls back to Petra teaching Raphael hunting techniques. Felix talks about how his house and Dimitri’s house used to go hunting together (Dimitri bagged a shit ton of animals, Felix barely got away with his life against a boar). Raphael goes confused about which boar Felix is talking about (kek). I guess Felix isn’t the best hunter, lol. Raphael helps him take down the boar, learns a lesson along the way... sort of. Helping ain’t a bad thing. Also calls Raphael a friend. Cute.
Sylvain and Yuri B - Yuri and Sylvain snuffed out some spies. Sylvain had not hesitated to dispatch them, which surprised Yuri. Yuri admits that he is surprised that Sylvain didn’t hunt him down for killing his brother. Sylvain says its water under the bridge if Yuri helps with the war. But warns that he will not hesitate to kill him if Yuri betrays them. Still, they respect each other. Yuri comments that Sylvain is actually a loyalist deep down (except in CF, kek), and then suggests a date might be fun. Like... a date date. Sylvain is into it? Oh mama, oh lord, these boys will be the death of me.
Annette and Lorenz B - Lorenz compliments Annette for her achievements. Annette is surprised. Their relationship is mended to a degree.
Annette and Ignatz B - Annette clears up some misunderstandings. Gustave may be the best fighter, but he’s a worrywart, and terrible taking care of himself. So while he may be an outstanding fighter, but knights need more skills than just being the best fighter. So Ignatz still has a lot of strengths that are contributing, even if it’s not Gustave’s level of fighting.
Yuri and Seteth A - When the plague came through the kingdom, Yuri was saved by an old man. His mother found him, and they took the man in and cared for him. Then Yuri got sick. Yuri doesn’t know how, but the old man saved him. (The old man is dead now). Seteth then tells him that one of the Ten Elites had a terminal illness, but was cured because he got a crest. Yuri concludes that the old man must have given him a Crest, and that he is going to live a very long life as a result. Seteth, quietly, reveals that the old man was likely Aubin. Apparently, Aubin cursed the blood that flowed through his veins, but likely found salvation because he was able to save a child’s life through it. I guess Aubin might have been one of Nemesis followers before he changed sides, and cursed what he had done. Only a guess on my part though.
Shamir and Catherina A - Catherine had wanted to go drag Shamir back after Shamir slipped away. But Rhea stopped her, and that it wasn’t fair to impose the Church on others, especially those from another land (HMMMMM, NO SHIT?!). They both admit that they missed each other, and that they trust each other deeply. If Shamir didn’t switch sides as easily as slipping burgers, I might actually believe her. Sort of. I mean, she’s mot lying here, but despite the romantic undertones Shamir can still kill Catherine and show very little remorse for it. At least Felix goes into states of depression.
Books
Military History of Partholon
Harpstring Moon, Year 892
The Sreng people mounted a large-scale invasion. They crossed the Ruska Mountains in the north and descended south into Faerghus.
King Banfig built a string of strongholds along the north of his domain, from Blaiddyd to Fraldarius, including Conand Tower.
Wyvern Moon, Year 895
Sreng was forced to retreat. The Kingdom was poised for a counterattack.
However, Sreng’s resistance and harsh, snowy conditions caused them to abandon their attack. Thus, hostilities drew to a close.
After the campaign, a young and fierce general by the name of Laetitia Zoe Gautier, royal knight and descendant of the elite hero Gautier, was widely praised.
Great Tree Moon, Year 896
Banfig confers the northern part of his territory on Laetitia. She is given the title of margrave and tasked with defending Faerghus’s border.
She strengthened defenses in the north, constructing strongholds throughout the Ruska Mountains on the border of Sreng, and reclaiming the Lance of Ruin from the Church of Seiros.
... Verdant Rain Moon, Year 1169
Having waited for summer, King Lambert joins with northern lords Gautier and Fraldarius to march on Sreng. The Kingdom army sets up camp in a single stronghold within the Ruska Mountains and opens hostilities with the Sreng army.
While engaging the Sreng chief Oleg and his forces. a gigantic beast suddenly enters the fray. It lays waste to both sides. Lambert sustains grave injuries, and Oleg disappears into a ravine.
Oleg’s son offers his own youngest child Leif as prisoner to House Gautier to broker peace.

I had to wait until I was back home to answer this, but Anon....... please enjoy all these FE3H answers ! :D
1 - Favourite house ?
The Church
The Blue Lions ! Both from first house bias and them being, all around, the house I find the most coherent story-wise (helped by have 5 of them directly tied before they came to the academy), and general some of my faves
I'm biased but honestly, having my favourite house leader, the og ship I shipped and consider to be one of my favourite despite some Opinions TM on how it's done most of the time ('s fraldarddyd. I'm still low key a sucker for them.), Gilbert being part of their storyline (look I Love Him), and... well, yes. Them being the first house I picked. Thanks to Dimitri's eyepatch. Well. They win my heart.
4 - Favourite Golden Deer
Lorenz. Which. Still can't believe I went through the "I hate him" phase before hitting his support with Leonie and realise that, actually, he's a fantastic character. I love this guy. He's so good. Him and his roses. His glow up. His poetry. His medkit. Love that dude
5 - Favourite Black Eagle
Linhardt. Sleepy head............. I love this sleepy scholar. While I didn't S-Support him in my first playthrough (coughIdidGilbertfirstcough), he has a lot of fun supports, a design I really like, and some pretty fun monastery dialogue.
6 - Favourite Blue Lion
I'll have to give it to Felix, that little bastard man has got me good. Dimitri is just very, very hot on his heels, but Felix is the one that surprised me. I genuinely didn't expect to love him as much as I do when I first played. While I love assholes with bad social skills, I didn't quite expect it from Felix at first ? I expected a more ? traditional swordsman from FE ? ... But no. I think he'd fit in with the asshole snipers, which are often some of my faves.
7 - Favourite Ashen Wolf
Constance ! Gods, I love her. She's so fun. She also has a very neat design, I quite love the purple under hair colour ? it's so good ? and while I don't think she fits the arcana of her crest... I truly do appreciate that she is the Hierophant character. It's excellent. Not really a good pick to represent it, but fun nonetheless
8 - Favourite house leader
Already answered, but it's Dimitri
9 - Favourite faculty member
... well.. it is her... Dragon Archbishop....... Rhea. My beloved. I could write paragraphs on why I love her, despite hating her at first. She's a fantastic character.
(After her it's Gilbert, and after Gilbert it's Catherine, just to give an idea. I have a Faerghus bias even when I don't especially try to have one lmao T-T)
15 - Favourite support conversation
HHHH. That's a hard one. But I'll have to elect the whole Gilbert - Dimitri support line. It is an excellent exploration of both characters issues, it reveals a lot about both of their (pretty abysmal) mental state and health, and while it doesn't conclude neatly, and I didn't expect it to, it still explores everything it needs to from start to finish. Excellent work.
But shout out to Catherine and Ashe support line, because it's *also* a fantastic one
16 - What class would you be if you went to Garreg Mach ?
Fun fact, I once ran a twitter poll with this question. People surprisingly answered Holy Knight (... the answers were like. Holy Knight, Dark Bishop, Bishop, and I forgot the last class)
But I personally think I'd be a Bishop. Comfy clothes. And, lmao, more seriously, the faith oriented class, and healing / support oriented class fits me well.
17 - Character you relate to ?
Felix regarding some of his communication / anger / lashing out issues, his relationship with his father ; and a bit Gilbert, regarding his godawful coping mechanisms and the guilt spirals. Like, those were written in a way I just... kinda looked at the screen like "oh, okay, I know that" ahah t-t
I always felt like I should relate to Linhardt, but... hm. I think, in his way, he's too harsh / blunt, so while a lot of his actions are, well, a mood, I don't really end up relating to him. I always found that a little surprising, but, hey.
23 - Favourite class ?
Toss up between sniper (excellent design AND excellent class use, but mostly it's because of the design, I'm weak, it's such a good design !!) and gremory (again, excellent design, and I just enjoy the way the class plays as a sorta sage like class)
I also have a soft spot for holy knight lmao no matter how bad it is, I just think it's a neat class :((

(pretend i sent this on time)
As students in the same house and takers of similar classes, they are bound to pass each other in the hallway eventually. When they do, she stops in front of Linhardt, little wrapped gift in hand.
“… Here…” Sophia says without preamble, holding out the gift.
Wrapped meticulously within the package is an eye mask for sleeping. Tiny glass beads sewn into the innards of the mask over where the eyes should be give the mask a comfortable heft to what would otherwise just be silky fabric.
"The sky... is pretty dark right now... but when it clears up... the sun is pretty bright here... isn't it? It might... make it hard for you to sleep, so I hope... this helps." A pause, as she seems to realize she should explain herself better. "...For your birthday."
(don't worry i am later to answering this than you are in sending this by a factor of a LOT)
Indeed, there is an required overlap in schedules when two mages share a classroom affiliation. Knowing that, it is unsurprising that one crossed paths with another during the day—that is, Linhardt with Sophia during a transition between classes.
Linhardt isn’t given much time to react before the item is laid before them—from the looks of it, a gift, though Lin couldn’t imagine what for.
A nod. “It is.” (And she was right—the Sun was a nuisance.) Linhardt couldn’t even begin to count all that times she couldn’t fall asleep due to its overbearing glare, or when she’d wake up from a patch of light hitting her shut lids. Opening the wrapping as Sophia speaks, she recognizes what this is:
An eye mask. Smart. (Truly, Linhardt might’ve gotten one for himself sooner, had he the drive to go and get one.) From the looks of it, it was of pretty high quality also—not your everyday spending, he supposes.
Oh, that would make sense. (As a birthday gift, it was completely reasonable.)
“Thank you, Sophia.” (A slight nod of appreciation, followed by a small smile.) “I’ll make sure it’s put to good use.” (Perhaps this next class period, even.)

my unit advice from reddit
Depends on if you are going for gameplay or supports. Petra, Cyril, Shamir, and Linhardt's supports with the Golden Deer are some of my favorite supports out of the entire game. In terms of gameplay it depends on the difficulty, on normal you can do anything recruit anyone, play any class. Well, actually you can do anything on any difficulty and complete the game I made Raphael a mage one maddening playthrough because I could. But here's some general tips (more geared for hard and maddening but applicable to normal too).
Each route is design to be completed with with no recruits so there's no one strictly necessary. There isn't exactly one optimal class for each character, if you keep them on their designed class routing they usually turn out pretty good and outside of that are a lot of specialized builds (wrath+vantage, etc.). Train every magic unit to learn heal if you have time, you don't actually need a dedicated healer unit. Physical units want death blow from brigand and magic units want fiendish blow from mage but its not necessary and not worth the skill grind in some cases.
Mortal Savant isn't very good for Byleth, if you want a magic sword class both Enlightened One and Trickster are better, and if not Assassin is usually the best swords class available in the game. Master classes are not always the best the speed drop from Mortal Savant usually isn't worth it and if you want magic damage on a unit you can just give them a levin sword. Byleth's "optimal" class is Wyvern Lord just because Wyvern Lord is the best class in the game but what's the fun in making everyone a Wyvern Lord? Mortal Savant is an ok choice but I'd advise Assassin with a levin sword+ and wo dao+ if you want to stick with swords.
Yeah keep Claude to bows pick up hit+20 from Archer, Barbarossa is really good.
Lorenz was designed as a jack of all trades master of none types unit who is a bit rng dependent. A common build for his to class into mage for fiendish blow and then paladin for lancefaire and then use the combat art frozen lance on everything. Paladin is a decent final class for Lorenz, Dark Knight is another option where you gain more magic utility but lose lancefaire.
Raphael works well down the Brawler or Armor Knight lines. Fist weapons are player phase and Armor Knight is a tank so it depends on what you want. I don't play a lot of armor units because they aren't as useful on maddening but they're very good on normal and hard. War Master is also just a great class.
Ignatz is an interesting unit as he's one of the most support based units in the game. You can build him a lot of ways as a sword, magic, bow or combination weapon unit. Ignatz is best at softening and debuffing enemies, so people often side promote him to Dark Mage to pick up poison strike. Sniper is probably the best class for him since hunter's volley allows him to do actual damage and he can use a magic bow well but you really could do anything with him. Ignatz is one of the best dancer candidates on the Golden Deer.
Lysithea is your nuke you want to put as much magic damage on her as possible. Thrysus is usually given to her to enhance her range. Have Lysithea pick up fiendish blow from mage, from there any of the magic classes will do really. Gremory and Dark Knight are both decent choices for final class. Gremory has better magic growth and more spell uses and Dark Knight allows her to move into and back out of enemies lines to kill.
Marianne is designed for Holy Knight so the easiest path is to have her go up the priest line and give her a horse. If you want more damage you can train her in reason or put her in Mortal Savant with a levin sword or silver sword soulblade. Marianne also makes a good dancer.
Hilda is one of your best units, if you need a tank she can do that but she shines best as Wyvern Lord. Give her an axe and a wyvern and watch her destroy the map. On normal and hard darting blow (pegasus knight) is probably a waste of a slot but on maddening it can be helpful.
Leonie is also a very good unit. The two best end classes for her are Falcon Knight and Bow Knight depending on whether you want point-blank volley or a lance unit. As Falcon Knight she is one of the best dodge tanks in the game but I usually go bow knight for the massive range and point-blank volley.
Technically every magic class can use a sword they just don't get swordfaire or skill buffs. Trickster is a sword faith DLC class and you could always use a levin sword with a swords class. Once Felix gets to level 30 he can class into Mortal Savant which is the swords and reason class. If you know what you are getting into and are doing it deliberately, go for it. But just in case you don't know: magic on Felix is bad, he's not a good mage. Felix is best as a full on physical unit, its why War Master is one of his best classes and trying to also make him do magic tends to take away from him damage and usefulness. Felix is so good because of his high speed and Mortal Savant is very bad for a unit's speed, you'll be fine on Normal but you'll feel the speed loss on Hard. (and then on Maddening most units never double and are always doubled anyways). Mortal Savant isn't bad it just isn't using Felix to his full potential. That said every character is viable in every class in every difficulty, if you want Felix to do swords and reason, go for it!
I would caution you for holy knight Ferdinand. In this game holy knight is the promotion for bishop, its a magic class unsuited for a physical unit like Ferdinand. For him paladin is superior in every way to holy knight, master classes are not always superior to advanced classes. Now if you still want to make Ferdinand a holy knight go for it its very fun to play non optimal classes. For tutoring his strongest combat art is swift strikes at lances A rank.
Dorothea is the Black Eagles' second reason unit. Her most common class progression is monk, mage, warlock, maybe gremory. Dorothea is also one of the best dancer units in the game so consider her as an option for dancer. Only 1 student per playthough can become a dancer, the choice occurs late in the school year (month 12? of the calender). Dancers allow another unit to have a second turn.
