Steve is Robins beard/no upside down AU where Robin and Steve run away and get married after Robin graduates because she gets outed in the last few weeks of highschool and its the only way to stop her parents from sending her to a christan all girls college.
Originally the cover up plan is for Robin and Steve to tell her parents that they just recently started dating and a girl in band started the rumor about Robin being a lesbian because she was jealous and hoped it would make Steve and Robin break up. They can fake date and then "break up" after Robin goes off to college in Chicago, claiming the distance was too much.
Robins mom is fully ready to accept this as fact, after all it will do so much for their status in town if her daughter marries into the Harrington family
Robins dad, on the other hand, hates the idea of his only daughter being with the son of Richard Harrington. He watched the bastard play with his sisters heart in highschool before running off to marry some rich girl and will be damned if he sees the same happen to his daughter. No it will be better if he put an end to all of this and ships her off to Mount Saint Marys so she never has to see the Harrington boy again.
Cue Robin and Steve aided by Joyce and Hopper making a plan for them to run away because Steve will be damned if all of Robins dreams are crushed because her father wants to be an over protective asshole. They decide the easiest way to stop her dad from tracking them down and forcing Robin to come home is if they get married.
So the night after graduation, Robin sneaks out of her house and steals away into the night with Steve. They drive all night until they make it to chicago as the sun is rising. Joyce has a cousin who lives in the city and is willing to let Robin and Steve stay in her spare room until they get settled.
Carina has the same motherly warmth as Joyce, though she never married or had kids instead choosing to live with her " Capital R Roomate" Marjorie. Of course, the two women know the truth of Robin and Steves situation and as soon as the court house opens, they bear witness as Steve and Robin sign the marriage papers and offically become Steve and Robin Buckley-Harrington
They actually fought quite a bit on last names Steve insisting that he should take the last name Buckley because fuck his parents, while Robin still angry at her father wanted to become a Harrington just to spite him. Carina is the one who convinces them to hyphenate after, to her horror and amusement they suggest combining their lastnames and becoming the Buckington's (Steves idea) or the Harringley's (Robins idea)
Steve and Robin find jobs together at a local coffee shop and after Robins first semester at school working towards a degree in linguistics, Steve decides to apply for community college eventually deciding he wants to become a school councilor, he loves working with kids and hey if he can help atleast one kid all the schooling will be worth it.
Steve and Robin love the city and once they both graduate -Robin ending up adding a teaching degree in with her linguitics- they get jobs teaching at a local middle school Steve as the guidance counciler and Robin teaching French and Latin. They talk briefly about getting divorced after a few years but after almost dying in a fire together when starcourt burned down they're trauma bonded for life, honestly steve doesnt know who he was kidding thinking he'd be fine staying in Hawkins until the kids graduated while Robin went off to Chicago.
Carina and Marjorie introduce Robin and Steve to the queer scene in Chicago and Steve has his bisexual awakening. Robin becomes Steves beard just as much as he is hers. They both date around a bit, but nothing serious ever comes of it theres not many people who can handle the combined force that is "Steve And Robin Platonic With A Capital P Soulmates"
Enter professional substitute teacher/drama club advisor Eddie Munson and brand new lead journalist of the Chicago Tribune Nancy Wheeler, who are both confused, gay and unwilling to be homewreckers but cant help but to be sucked into Robin and Steves orbit all the same

In conversion class tonight, someone asked if a non-Jewish womb was transplanted into a Jewish person, and they successfully gave birth, would that baby be considered Jewish. And the answer is yes, of course, for a variety of reasons both linguistically, halachically, traditionally, etc. Just, unanimously yes. But was such an incredible and interesting discussion overall- especially since the texts explicitly state "womb", and not "woman".
And at one point while we're talking about this fact- about the fact that it is "womb" that's the term that's explicitly used in the sources (and this amazing little side tangent about how lovely it also is that there's this additional connected idea of "The God who gestated the World" for reasons related to linguitic similarity between the word for "womb" and one of HaShem's names) ... I mused that I wondered if any part of the reasoning for the explicit emphasis on "womb" was related to the Jewish conceptualization of Gender and Sex, and how many different ones are recognized in Jewish tradition (and of course I'm thinking in my head about how that additionally plays into Matrilineality vs Patrilineality, and Transness even, in the modern debate) ... And my Rabbi just stops dead, and looks at me with her jaw practically on the floor, and was like "No, but that is an incredibly beautiful modern Midrash you've just created, I think".
Y'all. The feelings that gave me. I can't even articulate them.

Second semester of the year just started...
Hi friends! Its been a while!
The second semester of uni just started here in Brazil, and I just had my first week back. In all honesty, I`m not very happy with how I handled the last semester and, even if I did alright overall in terms of grades, I don't think I did my best: my work ethic was pretty bad, I procrastinated a lot and don't really feel like I was the student I was hoping to be.
I plan to do much different this semester. Its the last one of the basic cycle and I need to do very well to ingress on my Greek course next year. This way, I'm planning to do a little study session everyday, even if its only to put my notes down on Notion properly and keep up with the readings. On this first week back, I was successful and I have everything together so far: my Notion is all neat and I'm all done with the readings for this week and the next one, so kudos for me!
I'm planning to do little updates here every week day just to hold myself accountable and do at least a minimum revision everyday.
Some good news from this week: I got to know all my professors and they are great! Classics remains as the best class, obviously, but I'm actually pretty hyped for Lit Studies too (my professor is just wonderful!). Portuguese Studies might be a little tiring and Linguistics still my nemesis, but I'm still excited for this semester (and to finally have a good professor for Linguitics, omfg!).
Also, another nice thing is that I moved my desk to under my window! I mean, it might not be great during summer as sunlight might be too strong, but now I have much more natural light and a lovely view of the sky and of my tree to keep me inspired.
Here's a not-very-pretty sneak peak of my new desk setting and some other things from this first week:

See you soon, friends! And if you have any tips on how to make Notion templates cuter and more functional, please do tell!!

Linguistics blog - entry 1
Chapter 1 - History and definitions
In this chapter we are taught about the applied linguistic's concepts and applications; Starting by the defiinition of what does mean the words "applied linguistics", we are shown several quotes and references to gide us trough the definition as a journey rather that a goal to archive or a task to end every time soon.
As is said at the beggining of the chapter: "Applied Linguitics means many things to many people" (Cook 2006). this tells us many things about the therm, the first one being the fact that is no certanty of the concept as we can find in a dictionary with many other therms; In order to give ourselves a more specific approach to the meaning we can look at the proffetionals involved in this contexts to have a clue of what does it mean.
The question that is important to resolve is the following, what is the source of applied linguistics? and what exactly is being applied? To give an answer to those ones we need to know from were does the term applied linguistics come fron in our case an to also know where are we going to applied, due to the fact that depending on these answers we could be handeling different kinds of investigations. As it was said in the precedent pharagraph, the therm we have to work with is very general and means different thing to different people, seeing this trait of the therm, we can say that in order to properly investigate we need to make our target to not be anything and everything to do with language, because, a science of everything could be dangerous for the investigation and the environement and people involved in it, it is imperative to have a more narrow perspective in order to start.
In other fields of knowledge is it lets say a little bit more simple to make a distinction between pure subjects and applied ones, now taking as an example the pure mathematics and the applied ones, we can see that the aplied mathe matics are the ones that are proved in some way, in pur case with the applied linguistics there is an apparent discution about what does it mean to apply linguistics or to study the pure subject, due to the interesting fact that in the case of applied linguistics, the goal is not to finish an exercise or to give a solution to a problem at all, it is for certain that there are problems related to language profitiency and language adquisition that applied linguistics can solve in a temporary way, but i'd like to see applied linguistics as a weel that constantly turns over itself and takes us further into the language knowledge.

Sup y’all! I saw a post about a character writing in circular gallifreyan and I was like “hey! That sounds like a Cool Time™️” so I, having only watched maybe one episode or so of Doctor Who, decided to learn it. It took way too long on a shitty drawing app on my phone, but this says “I like honey mustard!”

Hello universe!
Hello to all humans, deep ais, space aliens and chemists alike! I am Aidan Collins. July 29, 2019
Naturally, as soon as I decide to make a studyblr my depression starts to act up and have me down an out for a few days in a depressive episode -- which meant I couldn’t even begin to look at a book, much less leave the house and spend 3+ hours in the local university library.
I’m feeling a little better today and was going to jump straight back into a full, regularly scheduled Monday, but it started raining and I got drenched on the way back from the gym, so in the interest of not getting sick and further having to delay myself, I decided to scale it back a bit. It was probably for the best, seeing as nightmares and the heat teamed up last night to keep me from sleeping well, and even after the little bit I did today I’m feeling pretty drained.
My study time today consisted of a little light reading, looking up and reading through a few sections in a book I have at home in hopes that I’d be able to use it for my upcoming term paper. Unfortunately this book in particular didn’t have much for me, but it was a nice start back into the swing of things. I’ll head to the library tomorrow, Thursday, and Friday this week, I think, to get some more studying in before I start my temp job earning money for my train pass next Monday.

Linguistics side of tumblr save me
One of my professors mentioned that there is a test where they give you a document written in a fake language and a few translations. The exam is to take those translation and break down the fake language’s morphology in order to translate the document to English.
What is this called and is there an online one I can do for free? (Google won’t reveal its secrets to me)

Arrival: Linguist behind film talks speaking to aliens and how Donald Trump is affecting language
Coon discusses how humans would make contact with extraterrestrials, whether emoji can replace written words and how the internet is putting some languages at risk
While building from simple to complex sentences is a tactic used when communicating between unknown languages, when it comes to human languages we have a huge head start. “Human languages share certain things in common," Coon says. "We know how to find certain patterns, and when we find one common property we are able to find others. Human language seems to be very directly linked to other more general aspects of human cognition."
