The Roles of the RVT members in Pokemon Horizons
One of the things that I love about Horizons is how the members of the Rising Volt Tacklers are all unique in their role/occuptation. Each member seems to subvert the expectations or stereotypes associated with their position:
Friede is officially the leader and pilot of the Rising Volt Tacklers. Ironically, it's the other members of the group who take charge of him, if you will. For instance, Mollie and Orla counteract his eccentric personality with their sensibility and level-headedness. Also, the other members are quick to correct Friede when he forgets to tell Liko important information. An example of this is when Mollie scolds him for keeping Liko in the dark about the group's intentions in episode two. Although Friede is in charge, the real authority on the airship is the support and knowledge that comes from his friends. Each crew member (apart from the protags) plays a crucial role in the ship's functionality. This is proven further in episode 13 when Orla reveals that she engineered the Brave Asagi on behalf of Friede's wishes. To add, the ship was originally Ludlow's fishing boat, so the ownership goes back to him. By saying this, I don't mean that Friede has no power by himself. However, his leadership is very much scaffolded by his connections to Orla, Murdock, Mollie, Ludlow and Dot.
The other RVT members also subvert the expectations of their retrospective roles. Orla takes on the traditionally male role as both a mechanic and the engineer of the Brave Asagi. Meanwhile, as a male character, Murdock has a more domestic role of cooking. I feel like this was done intentionally to show that the RVTs are all outsiders to some extent. In Mollie's case, she is a nurse joy who took the different path of travelling and caring for wild pokemon. Ludlow, despite his old age, is still eager to travel alongside the others. Even Friede, the head of the group, is unconventional. In episode 12, Liko's mum points out that he does not look like a Pokemon professor. In response, he says "I don't mind. I feel better like this." (according to the subtitles). I've said this in the past, but I think that the reason Friede does not want to be called a professor is because he does not want to be boxed in by that label. He is not just a professor- he is a battler, pilot, friend and Dad. He is an individual in his own right.
One of the things I'm looking forward to seeing the most in Horizons is Liko, Roy and Dot finding their own sense of identity. With how the story has progressed so far, I would love to see how the adult characters continue to influence their development. Speaking of the younger cast members, Liko Roy and Dot are already unique in their own ways. Liko is taking over from a male protagonist after 25 years. Similarly, Roy is the second protagonist, filling in for what has so often been a female sidekick in past seasons. Arguably, he has a much bigger role than a sidekick (being a mc) but he is still the second major character after Liko. In Dot's case, she breaks the binaries between introversion and extraversion through her dual personality. As Nidothing, she wears a facade of confidence and excitement. However, underneath the costume, she is reclusive and hates social interaction. She represents the human condition, imo. Irl, a lot of people come across as more confident than they actually are. This is symbolised through the extreme example of Dot and her personality as Nidothing. (Or that's how I like to think about it).
Overall, the Rising Volt Tacklers are all unique in their own ways. One of the biggest themes in the new anime seems to be overturning common character tropes and stereotypes, and exploring new 'horizons'.

PEOPLE OF POKEMON HORIZONS!
I NEED TO KNOW SOMETHING!
Can Friede be considered a dilf?
The only reason I asked, is because I've been watching the english dub of Horizons just for comparisons. And Friede's dub is... Kinda fatherly in a sense. It has a very dad like voice and it brought up this question and I need answers. It doesn't help that he and Roy have a father son relationship going on and it's sort of the same way with Liko. Especially in episode 11 and 12 where he worries about them. So uh.... help!??!

To be honest, the reasons i agree with many pkmn animations and support liko's adventure are that we can have many canonities like the mangas where there is a shojo or kaito pkmn manga, NOT because i don't need ash dense *affectionately* ketchum.

why dot & episode 41 of pokemon horizons means so much to me as a recovering social recluse
when i got into pokemon horizons i had no idea whatsoever that my favorite character would end up being dot, one of the best handled social recluse characters i've ever seen in a piece of media. pokemon places such a large focus on adventure and travel, meeting new people and pokemon, so really the idea of a respectfully handled social recluse character just didn't seem to fit in with the concept. but now that the environment travels with the characters in the form of an airship, dot was able to be created and my god i love her. as someone who's been a recluse most of my life, even as a child, (i would qualify as a hikikomori and/or NEET at different stages of my life!) who is slowly crawling out of that pit, dot means the world to me.
there's a lot of good episodes that have some level of focus on dot but episode 41 in particular really blew me away and for the sake of my autistic ass desperately wanting to tell people about it i'm going to explain that here in trademark rambling fashion. obviously spoilers ahead - though not just for episode 41, i'm also going to be talking about earlier episodes a little bit. you've been warned!! if you don't want spoilers don't read below the cut ty!!
Tumblr media
so episode 41. we meet dot's mother as the viewer who is there to pick up dot from her "trial period" on the brave asagi, learn about how dot ended up on the airship in the first place, and then at the end dot gets to have a showdown against her mother's lycanroc essentially to prove that she wants to, and can, stay permanently on the rising volteccers crew instead of going home. this is a huge turning point in dot's development as a character - at first she was a complete unknown only audible through her bedroom door, irritable to anyone who tried to speak to her, then over the course of the show she's managed to make friends with liko and roy, become a pokemon trainer, enjoy food with other people for seemingly the first time, and even caught tinkatink on her own accord pretty recently. and now this episode allows her to say in her own words that she isn't just on the ship experimentally, or because of murdock, or any other reason - she is choosing to be there and is enjoying learning more about other people and experiencing the outside world. again, this is a huge leap for someone who refused to show her face to the main characters for the first half of the show!
this on its own is already a pretty admirable character arc, one i can relate to, but i am really impressed by & feel seen by the way the writing handles her and that's really apparent in this episode. first i'm going to focus on how the writing and characters in the show respect dot's feelings despite her introversion and reclusion here.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
dot's mom (blanca) is introduced to us as incredibly overbearing, to the point of freaking out and sending a bunch of angry stickers when murdock and dot don't immediately respond to her messages. dot's first response to seeing her mom is frustration instead of any level of positive response or excitement, which implies they don't have the best history, even before she actually starts talking about her past. i'm not trying to make this a post about dot's family psychology, maybe another time, but similarly to liko her situation is a bit fucked lmao (though for opposite reasons!)
Tumblr media
the thing is - the adults around her are ALSO uncomfortable, in particular murdock, blanca's brother, which conveys a lot about the situation. she's not just some stubborn kid, there's legitimacy to her feelings, because if there wasn't the mature figures in this situation probably wouldn't also be reacting negatively, especially not murdock, dot's other relative here. from incredibly personal experience, it is so easy to wave off the feelings of a child, especially one as "difficult" and reclusive as dot, as just being some sort of phase, but already the writers are directly contrasting murdock, an adult dot is comfortable with who treats her with patience and respect, with blanca, who she evidently is not comfortable with - and they're respecting her feelings by making the adults in the show respect her feelings, too. and they're about to do a whole lot more of contrasting her mother with Everyone and Everything Else!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
dot is continued to be understood and respected by the people who know her best in the case of liko and roy choosing to approach her to talk first. dot has run off to her room, where she usually is to get away from people, a very clear sign that she's struggling. liko and roy recognize this and cut blanca off from making the situation worse. which, of course they would, they're her friends and they genuinely care about her and understand how she behaves! they even know how to get her to come out her room without banging on her door and continuously yelling or something like that - direct contrast to them struggling with this much earlier in the show, by the way.
Tumblr media
dot is happy to see them and much more willing to talk pretty much immediately, because guess what, they're people who respect her space and her feelings!!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and once again, when blanca tries to force dot to speak before she's ready to (i mean come on you literally jumped her with this massive thing out of nowhere), liko jumps in and cuts blanca off to defend her and once again respect her feelings in a way that blanca definitely is not.
and finally, when they end up having a pokemon battle with each other...
Tumblr media
blanca says this, yet another invalidation of dot's feelings and the way she responds to situations. this line actually made me viscerally uncomfortable, i remember the bitterness and upset i felt when i was a young person and my feelings, especially my frustrations with my parents and the way they handled my introversion, were invalidated on account of my age. "oh, it's just a phase" or "it's just because you're a kid" - just so incredibly frustrating.
and you know what that's followed up with?
Tumblr media
dot speaking her fucking mind and kicking her mom's ass baby!!!! get her ass!!! let's GOOO. this part of the episode is so fucking rewarding. it's so good to see this character who has grown so much finally stand up for herself. she still needed a little bit of a push but that's OKAY!! the important part is that she's doing it and the narrative recognizes that! having friends and loved ones to help you out is actually a very essential part of happiness and survival!
and before i delve too far into my personal feelings, i also want to talk about a second thing here; i just find dot's characterization really relatable, like i swear to god there's someone on the writing team who must have been a 12 year old autistic NEET or something. it's literally too fucking on point, it's uncanny, i swear there's times in horizons where dot is just a carbon copy of me when i was a preteen. i mean come on:
Tumblr media
dot flopping face down into bed after being overwhelmed in an awkward social situation and being confronted with a situation she's been trying to ignore thus far... the amount of times i have done this in my life, holy shit.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the candidness in which dot speaks about being so interested in the outside world, but being unable to have those experiences for herself as simply a voyeur. the shot of her room being such a disaster because she rarely leaves it and stuff piles up in there, including food junk,
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the way she spends all this time alone cultivating skills she's passionate about and then shrugs them off as "just something she likes" when an adult compliments her on her abilities, the contrast between her confidence in what she loves but her complete social awkwardness in talking to anyone about it,
Tumblr media Tumblr media
her defining herself on the internet by being a homebody, hell even her cute little freakout about the streamer she likes noticing something she said,
Tumblr media
waking up late and missing the activities of other people because her sleep schedule basically doesn't exist while she's at home,
Tumblr media
even just her general body language of closing in on herself and holding onto something when she's nervous, hell even her clothing choices which are so obviously meant to be as comfortable as possible for her and easy to take on and off - i could go on forever even just with this episode alone but i think you get the point. i feel so seen by how dot is just in general and it's obvious from both the plot/writing and the way dot is portrayed and animated that the people making this show understand people like me, even the type of person i was as a child, too.
all of this means so much to me because like i said in the intro to this post, i was and still very much am a social recluse. i'm a homebody. even now i still rarely leave my room, i don't eat with family often, i struggle to do things in the "real world". growing up, repeated intrusions into my feelings and my life did not help me, they only made me whiplash further into feeling distant and not listened to by the people around me. they made me want to interact with real life less. finally, as an adult, when people started to give me a bit more space, when the ways i communicate began to be respected a little more, that is when i started making genuinely close and good friendships, that is when i began to venture outside of my room and partake in small joys with people, as a direct result of being given the space and time to do so, to have my own autonomy, to make my own decisions, to be myself. i think it's incredibly easy to see someone curling in onto themself and assume they need a fuckton of intrusive pushing, and sometimes they do need a little push, like how dot's quaxly pushes her to move forward in the moment sometimes, or how liko continuously tried to befriend her, but the important part is that by treading too far over her boundaries it is no longer a productive or respectful way of helping her - it's a balance, and a balance horizons always seems to get right, episode 41 included.
it really means so much to me to see dot's journey into coming out of her shell treated with so much respect by the writing and other characters. so often recluse characters are the butt of the joke, are pushed out of their comfort zones unrealistically fast, or never actually receive the support and growth they need - but horizons strikes the balance of being candid about the type of character dot is and giving respect and space to her feelings so she can grow at her own pace, but still giving her support and little pushes when she needs them, and showing that it's possible to grow and enjoy the real world, even as a recluse. it's refreshing, especially with a character who is a child, and a girl, too! i can count the amount of times i have found a young girl character i relate to at all on one hand, and dot is the best one i've ever seen, personally! horizons has been really inspiring to me to continue to cultivate my connections with others and continue to drag myself out of my shell at my own pace with people who love me, during a really chaotic and transitional part of my life and i really love it for that. i'm glad this episode exists for an infinite multitude of reasons but i really just wanted to talk about this specific aspect for a bit and how it relates back to me as a recovering recluse.
thanks for reading if you got this far jesus christ i talk a lot LOOOL. and i might talk more about my feelings on this episode or dot in general later. i have so much to say about likodot and also about the family dynamics in this show i'm practically eating thru drywall thinking about it rn

You know, in the recent episodes of Horizons, both Liko and Roy had one of their Pokemon learn new moves. But what's really interesting is the kind of moves each one learned. So far Roy's Pokemon have been learning a lot of offensive moves, like Fuecoco learning Stomping Tantrum, Flamethrower, and now Disarming Voice, and him trying out a combo offensive attack with Fuecoco and Wattrel. In other words, he's all about power and offense. Liko's development has been comparatively slower as far as moves, but her Hatenna recently learned Heal Pulse, which is a move to heal other Pokemon. Notably, this is a move that is not only a supportive move, but one that works at its best in a team setting. Liko's Sprigatito hasn't learned anything yet but is naturally more skilled than Roy's Fuecoco and a notable thing it has going for it is that it uses Leafage to unleash its natural sweet scent to lull its opponents into an entranced state, letting their guard down.
Liko herself is notably very perceptive in battle and she's quite analytical and strategic. Roy is more headstrong and about attack and isn't as naturally skilled in battle as Liko is. But the throughline in what I pointed out above is that Liko's Pokemon seem to be gearing more towards a support/defensive battling style, while Roy has a more offensively oriented battle style intent on really dealing damage. I feel that individually, they have some shortcomings, but together their skillsets are developing in such a way where they complement each other, to a point where as a duo, they'll eventually be a powerhouse duo whose skillsets work in tandem with one another to really outsmart and overpower whatever's in front of them, and their already excellent chemistry as friends lends to the potential for incredible teamwork between the two of them.
In a sense it feels like their developments as Trainers really is designed to complement each other, so that they work best **together**. Their battle styles align with their personalities but their skillsets would work so well in tandem together that as a duo they would eventually grow to become unstoppable, able to overcome challenges as a team. Liko being a strong defensive/support backbone that Roy can lean on, while Roy is the heavy hitter between the two who really dishes out the dirt.
Their stories to begin with were always deeply intertwined with each other, which was hinted at when Roy's Poke Ball and Liko's pendant resonated with each other. Roy wants to become a strong battler who can challenge the Pokemon of legend like Rayquaza, though he lacks the talent and skill to be able to battle. Liko started out with no real goal, but eventually learned of Lucius thanks to Roy's Poke Ball revealing the Black Rayquaza and that her pendant was related, and now wants to understand the feelings of Pokemon. She is also more strategic and skilled, and the development of her Pokemon's skillsets so far while still just starting out is aligning with that too. Together, they will both be able to achieve their goals, Roy being able to go toe-to-toe with Rayquaza and other powerful Pokemon as a team with Liko, who can also eventually help Terapagos and its friends and whatnot and overcome the Explorers as a duo with Roy.
Teamwork will be what eventually allows Liko and Roy to overcome the Explorers in particular I feel, since that's also where the Explorers contrast them: unlike the RVT, the Explorers do not value teamwork and each admin is self-centered and they are constantly trying to one-up each other instead of working together (think Kakashi's first lesson to Team 7 in Naruto, for instance), which I think will be their downfall that will eventually allow Liko and Roy to, as a team, win against them.
Long ass neurodivergent ramble but just some thoughts haha.

I love how Friede is becoming a softie and being a guardian to liko and roy. His friends are enjoying watching the change too xD
YESS gosh what I've been enjoying through the last twelve episodes is the progression from 'I'm a hired bodyguard' to 'These are my Kids™'.
Let me just ramble about Friede is Becoming a Dad moments I've noticed and adored up until episode 12:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In the first couple of episodes, he was quick to assure Liko when Sprig got nabbed. Asked her for some time so he can be properly sure that they have a lead so they're not seeking blindly. When they did find where Sprig is held at, he stopped her from rushing in without a plan and instead, acted like bait to draw Amethio's attention while she goes to save her cat. Yes hi Liko do you think he's going to let you run into danger like that.
Tumblr media
When they got to the island where Roy is at, aside from the fact that he saved the pair from the angry Bug-types, he didn't dismiss Roy's feelings of wanting to be Fuecoco's partner. He simply wanted him to understand that it's a two way street; Roy can't singularly push his feelings without considering Fuecoco's as well. Allowing him to stay on board for the night (with Cap's permission too) so he'll have the time and opportunity to convey these feelings to Fuecoco? Yeah, that's the Dad in him peeking out.
Tumblr media
Of course, we can't forget the time where he sees Liko's curiosity with the island Pokemon and decided to delay their return because of it. The way he watched Liko and then smiling like that? He's compromising for his kid right there.
Tumblr media
When the Explorers attacked, even Amethio got annoyed with the way he kept getting distracted from the fight. I feel like ordinarily, Friede's not the sort to keep his eyes away from battle but he does so here because he's worried for Roy. He can't help it when there's the potential of that Rhyhorn doing harm unto Roy and Fuecoco.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He was relieved when Fuecoco pulled off his Ember but of course, his inattentiveness costed him when Amethio went straight for Liko. He's trying to get to his kids!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Look at him being so supportive of Roy and Fuecoco being partners! And how happy he is to know that both of them were brought together by the RVT flag! That's another kid acquired yes sir.
Tumblr media
I imagine this goes both ways. Friede thus far has prove the be quite the protective guy, not just to the kids but to his crew in general. He's the captain of this motley crew. These people from different walks of life all came together under the Rising Volt Tacklers flag where their motto is "chase each mystery we see until it's solved." Well it's no mystery that the good captain here has become Dad to the kids on board.
Tumblr media
Also this shows Friede and by extension the rest of the crew doesn't force Dot to change who she is. They know she's reclusive, grumpy, strict but they more or less leave her be. I personally find that nice to see.
Tumblr media
I adore this bit because while he gets to munch on the doughnuts Dot doesn't touch, it goes to show that he cares that Murdock wants to make something that she'll eat. His encouraging words are not just towards the kids!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Friede trying to give advice to Roy in this moment was so sweet! He's trying to be a good role model to his kid (now if only he sat through the whole advice giving moment).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Look at him witnessing and trusting Roy in his battle! That's a proud dad look right there!
Tumblr media
And look at how happy he is to know that Dot ate Murdock's doughnuts! He's just so sweet!
Tumblr media
SIRS WHERE IS YOUR KID.
Tumblr media
See I can't be normal here I just can't not when he watches Liko standing up for herself and expressing what she wants with that warm look and smile and that whispered I'm happy for you FRIEDE THE DAD IN YOU IS JUMPING OUT.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
AND THIS RIGHT HERE. SPOKEN LIKE A TRUE DAD. FRIEDE PLEASE DO YOU HEAR YOURSELF.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I WAS JUST AHHH AT THIS MOMENT. HE TRIES TO ACT LIKE HE'S NOT WORRIED BUT HE'S THE FIRST TO HEAD OUT THE MOMENT HE LEARNS THAT THERE'S A PROBLEM. I love how Murdock and Orla (rightfully) called him out on that!
Tumblr media
HE IS WORRIED FOR HIS KIDS!!
Tumblr media
HE'S READY TO RUSH OVER IF THEY'RE IN TROUBLE!!
Tumblr media
I SWEAR THIS MAN NEEDS TO STOP EXPRESSING HIS CARE IN THIS SOFT, WHISPERED VOICE AND ACTING LIKE THERE'S NOTHING WRONG!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
HE KEEPS CALLING THEIR NAMES IN WORRY LIKE KIDS CAN YOU PLEASE STOP BEING WHISKED AWAY BY PLOT SO YOU'D STOP WORRYING YOUR DAD!!
Tumblr media
DON'T WORRY MISS MA'AM YOUR DAUGHTER IS SAFE WITH HIM HE'S READY TO PROTECT HIS KIDS WITH HIS LIFE!!
Tumblr media
Also I wholeheartedly believe that based on the bits of scenes that was shown, he's pulling out that terastalization because he got cornered and gotta fight but he HAS TO GET BACK TO HIS KIDS THEY'RE IN DANGER!!
So yes those are the moments that I like and I think showcases how he's just being a Dad to Liko and Roy (and sometimes Dot). If you've reached the end, thank you for listening to me ramble. As you can see, I have a lot of feelings for him 🥰🥰🥰

With the reveal of the latest anipoke poster, I wanted to talk about the upcoming arc in Pokemon Horizons bcs I have so many thoughts about it!!
Firstly, FLORAGATO 👀 Secondly, I'm really excited to see the Naranja (Uva) academy being properly adapted in the anime. It'll be an important training arc for Liko, Roy and Dot, who want to develop their skills as trainers. I'm interested to see how the sv characters shown in the poster will be portrayed, since we've already seen Nemona, Brassius, Iono and a Larry cameo.
At first glance, the upcoming arc seems kind of random with the ongoing Lucius plot. However, I think it actually makes a LOT of sense when you think back to the structure of the first arc. We were introduced to Nemona and Brassius back in episode ten, who will presumably have some involvement in the training of Liko, Roy and Dot. It's also an opportunity for the writers to develop the dynamic between Dot and Iono. Since episode fifteen, they've been established as having a competitive rivalry/friendship, so it'll be nice to see how that evolves. On top of this, Liko's Mum Lucca is a teacher so maybe we'll find out more about her. I'm not sure if she's supposed to teach at the Naranja academy or elsewhere in Paldea, but I want to learn more about her regardless.
Even though the adult rvts are not in the new poster, I'm hoping that they'll at least stick around for this arc (Friede and Orla are my comfort characters fr 😭). As Friede's a pokemon professor, I can see him fitting in with the other academics at the school. As for the other adults, they could either help out with the academy's facilities (Murdock being the cook would be a blast) or join as mature students. Collectively, the adults might be interested in researching terapagos and/or learning more about the six heros.
In hindsight, this arc could tie the loose thread of Ann's involvement in the story. Since episode two, she's only appeared through video calls. Since Liko's an exchange student from the Indigo academy, it wouldn't be a stretch for Ann to transfer to Paldea as well. It would give her some much-needed screen time, and give Liko a rival to train against. I don't know whether this will happen but it would be cool if it did!!
Overall, I'm really looking forward to the next arc. The end of the chapter two also looks hype, so I'll be watching it with no interruptions 😤 I think a training arc is necessary for Liko Roy and Dot, so that they can become more independent as trainers.

Just watched the lastest episode of pokemon horizons AND HOHOHOHOHO!
I HAVE A LOT OF THINGS COOKING UP HERE! I might do a screenshot edit with Fujiko, as well as I comic of Fujiko's reaction to the Brave Asagi falling down. Because I imagine Iono was streaming while everything was going down, and if not that then I imagine that some people reported it, or the Snapkids got a few photos. I also have two new ocs for Fujikos crew. So.... stay tuned. :D

Once again, I'm rambling in the main tag about Amethio cause I'm feeling extra shitty and my arms are in hellish pain.
Anywho, heres my thoughts abt Friede and Amethio, and their Rivaly.
Come to think about it, the whole "Rivaly" thing is pointing out their major flaws and also establishing something interesting.
Like Friede, for example - his worst qualities shine in fights with Amethio. He's forgetful, he's airheaded, and he doesn't take seriously his opponent until it's in direct danger for people he cares about. Hell, if you exaggerate it a little, he could be even called arrogant in his attitude.
Same with Amethio - he's hotheaded and impulsive in fights with Friede, and he clearly seeks attention from him just to prove to himself that he's good enough. He literally just drops his mission completely just to have more beef with Friede. And it happened not once, not twice, not three, but four times!
And it's really interesting cause the whole thing with their conflicts that they're... Not really personal? At least from Friede. While it's obvious that for Amethio it was really personal, his reaction to Friede not taking him seriously says it all, but for the other guy... He's just playing around. He always annoys and mocks the guy, but he's not really actually angry at him? Even more, I can even say hes having fun in their fights, even if they're not full blown serious. Like, we seen angry and scared Friede when Spinel showed up, and he never reacted that way with Amethio, even in the castle. Which is... Really odd to me.
All of this makes me think that Friede purposefully annoys the teen, and in reality, he wants to get as much information out of him as possible. He's a professor, after all, even if an ex-one. The same thing goes to the whole thing with the "Taking you seriously" in the 25s episode. I think he didn't really want to hurt the guys feelings? Since he seemed to do the same to Liko and Roy when they were training with him. He liked their fights and wanted to see what this kid has in his pocket, and he didn't go all power on him, despite being an enemy.
All of this leads me to think that Friede actually understands that Amethio is clearly a minor forced to work in Explorers and actually wants to know what the hell is going on with the kid. I dont think he's the one who's gonna start Amethios redemption arc. After all, he did hurt the kid a lot by his carelessness, but I dont think it's impossible to have a positive friendship in the future.
Anywho, ending this, I'll say - Friede is really bad with kids, no wonder he's an Ex-Professor.

Me: "Yaaaay it's Horizons anniversary soon!!"
Others: "It's been a year since Satoshi's journey ended"
I... I didn't even think about that |D
Guess I was that ready to just let him leave the story.
Considering that none of the original series staff stayed in the writing team, they were too.
Since it's soon been a year and we're reaching the end of act 2, I can confidently say this is like, my favourite Pokémon series. Alongside Sun & Moon. And both are favs for wholely different reasons, as in, love Sun & Moon for tackling mature topics and for having wonderful humor, alongside good world building and nice focus on family theme. While Horizons I love the story focus shift from normal, cast that is super enjoyable and a take on a found family type of group, new original villains that I've come to like a lot, etc etc.
I love how different both shows are. I love how both dare to try new things out in different way. Liko is one of THE most relatable characters to me, and I love the whole entire cast to bits. I even adore the Explorers, esp. Sango is slowly making a hole in my heart that wants me to call myself a fan of hers. Yes. She's been that enjoyable to me. Even Amethio's grown on me immensely, I like how his character works, and excited to see his role this upcoming ep.
At the start Roy felt a tad bit too alike to Satoshi, and at times I can see that similar type of "forget about a skill and then do the skill" writing from Satoshi era is thrown on him, but he's still mostly his own character. But that is probably why I'm more drawn to the likes of Liko, Dot, Friede, Amethio and Sango, because their fighting styles are so refreshing for me. I even like how Onyx and Sango pairing works, with Onyx fitting Sango's oni-speaking pattern (srsly wtf that must have been intended and now I want to know if dub has ANYTHING to match this speaking pattern with.)
There's been clear growth, clear character progression, much much slower team progress than whatever the fuck JN did (not jabbing at anyone who likes JN but I won't deny that I really hate how fucking fast most Pokémon evolved there. It seems Horizons knows not to rush things).
Act 1 suffered from pacing issue where stuff happens in one episode and then the next ep sort of shrugs it off and continues the plot in a really weird tone-shift, but I don't think act 2 had that, which I liked. But act 2 also had more fill-ins compared to the action-packed act 1. But imo, it was good to have a more slower, calming pace for a while. It helped build on the characters more, and show how the Rising Volt Tacklers exactly live like. Which makes the Brave Asagi breaking in recent episode ever so more heartbreaking aaaaaaaaah-
I'm also kinda glad I was wrong on the "only a one year long series", because so far I'm quite attached to the cast and definitely wouldn't have felt happy to see them go yet. So knowing that Horizons seems to follow the usual 3 year pace (maybe 2, maybe 4, who knows) makes me happy. And I totally look forward to act 3 that is definitely caused by the Brave Asagi needing long, long time for repairs.
So um yeh. This was a weird ramble lol. But like, love Horizons, don't exactly miss old show as I felt it told whatever it wanted to and had the danger of just, butchering characters further from what I enjoyed it for. Sometimes it's better to let go. Fanfics and fanarts will still exists for a long long time, I'm sure. But my enjoyment on Horizons has definitely caused me to not miss the old days at all. And I'm glad.
(Do I want Satoshi to return? Honestly? No. 26 years is long enough for me.)
