I actually do think people commenting on people's travel videos saying "this country is bad because of X and you shouldn't be promoting it" are silly in almost all cases tbh. that's a fair and fine conversation to be had, but it's very limited analytically and doesn't consider the privilege tourists have over locals, why a government may be repressive towards certain populations of people (it's not always just that country's individual problem but is impacted by foreign interests), and it almost always marginalises global south and/or poorer countries in particular (whose economies may rely more heavily on the tourism sector), because only their repression and crimes are considered bad, whilst rich countries crimes against them are all but forgotten. don't travel to malaysia because they hate gays, but yes sure travel to the united states with their abortion bans, war crimes, and violent racism
