Supergirl 6x14
I have mixed feelings about last episode. I think it was good but I'd like to write more about my opinion.
First, the game night, 10/10, so cute everyone (except from Brainy :() was there, just trying to have fun, I bet Lena planned the whole thing since she knew when Kara would arrive (wife energy), nice.
We had Kara showing her streght in a kind of cosy way which tbh I loved bc it's been a whiiile, cause you know, it seemed she just had the power of flying, and they've been weaken her, so those two scenes I took them as a nice wink of her physical streght, a little reminder she's strong, she is superfast and can perfectly stops to see a bullets going in slowmotion and stop it, yass queen.
Then we had Dansen scenes, one talking while fighting, that was so cool, but the moment they apeared to save Esme OMG, I screamed I swear, they looked so badasses, loved it. And of course the very last scene where they just comunicated with their eyes and took Esme, I wanted to cry.
Nia's little moment of fight was so on point. Her comedic scene where Lena "breaks her brain" hahaha great part. And when she called Kara and Lena "you guys are just showoffs" I really laughed, Nia just being Nia, really good.
Idk why I like Nyxly so much haha, I liked how her character was affected by the totem this episode, and what a great actress as well, I love her voice, I appreciate her being a good villain, funny, ironic, selfish but still pretty evil, and the way she was so careful and loving bc of this totem, I liiiived for her.
And let's talk about Supercorp, oh gosh well this is the point where I get the mixed feelings, I mean Lena is softer and softer each episode and that's really cute and somehow Kara is getting bigger (?) which I also appreciate haha. Kara and Lena had very emotional moments, and although I'm grateful for them, I also feel mad bc the very romantic undertone that will probably land to nothing! The scene where Supergirl tells Lena "maybe you can find science in magic after all" you can tell they were flirty and they would've been more if William didn't show up, ugh, I thought they would talk more in that moment and just kiss but no. They put him in at least 3 scenes where he was absolutely not necessary. The scene he fights with the other men?? Gurl, Supergirl would've just sneeze and send everyone apart hahaha, however, I loved she stopped one man like it was nothing and Lena was impressed.
Then the little "fight", omg I felt they were about to kiss (for the second time this episode) they were looking at each other with such tenderness that I got mad bc they didn't kiss nor confessed their feelings for each other haha, but in the other hand, the way they carried the argument, I mean, they were in clear disagreement but that didn't make them scream or disrespect each other (in contrast of the fights she had with her ex), it was pretty calm and respectful, I thank that. The lines were good, the acting was excellent and the way the camera was showing them I think it was ok. Plus Nia getting William out for that moment was another good point for the episode.
And the last scene, just a comfort sc moment, I was really happy to watch it, and then again they had to say "boundaries with friends" like in a "no homo" way, ugggg, but just after that the lines "I won't use my fingers" and "I'm going to" just were said and I kinda died hahaha.
I genuinely feel the writers and show runners are taking advantage of the clear love for supercorp, they are just teasing us with these scenes with the clear romantic tone and you know what bothers me the most? That it's working! I'm there every tuesday waiting for something that doesn't come but I say "oh they are so close, maybe next episode" 🤡 but well, I've already gone too far, I won't stop watching specially knowing it's the last season, however, I wish they would do more, risk it, please the audience, it's almost the end, what do they have to "lose"?
Uff, anyway, in general I really liked this episode that I almost forgot Brainy wasn't there. In the beggining I felt I was watching an episode of the first seasons and that's always nice. I laughed, I yelled, I got worried, I got mad and I almost cried as well, if that's not what a good episode is about, then Idk what it is.
If you read everything I wrote, thank you, I really needed to talk about this since I have no one to tell all of these in person and I know some of you can get how I feel haha. Thanks again💙

I fixed supergirl s6. here's how
ok! first of all disclaimer that I really enjoyed s6, but I've been thinking about this recently and I have some conclusions.
basically: I think supergirl s6b should have scrapped the power theme and instead been about reconciling different parts of one's identity.
all my thoughts under the cut.
overall for each character:
for kara, this means deciding to integrate her human and alien sides permanently. they do this at the end, but it's complicated and mostly overshadowed by the power stuff.
for lena, this means letting go of both sides of her family and becoming her own person. tbh this one was done the best individually in the season. but if the other characters were also going through something similar it wouldn't have felt so much like lena was being shoved off to the side.
for alex, this means learning how to be both a mom and a superhero and becoming more confident in her ability to have it all. remember in s3 and s4 when she was worried about that? yeah...
for kelly, this means realizing (and teaching the others) that superheroes have to focus on everyday systemic problems as well as big superhero stuff. once again, they did this in s4 then kinda abandoned it smh
j'onn can chill he's ok
and brainy and nia had their own arcs that worked really well, so I wouldn't change those.
how I would change the plot:
first of all, there are way too many totems. get rid of all of the totems except the courage totem, the hope totem, and the love totem. now we can proceed.
kara's courage gauntlet is 1x09 blood bonds, when cat becomes convinced she's supergirl. she initially (based on the stress she's been under this season) thinks she lacked courage by trying to go back and forth. she tries to abandon supergirl. she tries to abandon kara. she fails both times.
kara's hope gauntlet is to inspire a hope that burns brighter than the sun. this is an idea I had during the episode and I was sad it didn't happen so here it is now lol. alex is trying to teach esme how to control her powers, but the way she's doing it just reinforces that esme shouldn't use her powers and no one will ever accept her. kara shows her that her powers are nothing to be afraid of (thus bringing about a realization for herself as well). then something blocks out the sun. kara loses her powers. but since esme's powers aren't technically powered by the yellow sun, esme still retains kara's powers and is able to use them to help. hope that burns brighter than the sun. boom.
the love gauntlet goes to alex. pretty simple. partly based on the events of the hope gauntlet, alex is worried she won't be able to show esme the love she deserves. she realizes that she can. potentially with a conversation with lena where lena's like sure eliza had flaws but you grew up surrounded by love and that's the most important thing.
this whole time, nxyly becomes more and more evil and bent on revenge. she refuses to be that scared princess who was exiled by her father. all she cares about is power.
the super friends acquire all three totems (with the courage gauntlet still not passed), and nxyly kidnaps esme to ransom her for the totems. the super friends must assemble the allstone to fight her. at this point they are a cohesive unit, none of this backstabbing and arguing. in a last-ditch effort, kara tries the courage gauntlet again. this time, she just tells cat everything she's thinking (like nxyly did when she passed): she is supergirl, but she loves her job and she needs both in her life. cat understands. kara has performed admirably.
plot stuff, idk... the big battle was fun... but eventually, it's lena and nxyly facing off. and lena's like, I get it. I went down the same dark path as you for the same reasons. but you are not beholden to your family... the greatest triumph is being enough for yourself and letting them go. then nxyly is like damn u right and surrenders. the end.
might do a post about how supercorp could have happened, keep an eye out for that. but for now that's it! lmk what you think! but this is a tv show about superheroes so be chill abt it

Up against the (glass) wall || Supercorp
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Supergirl (TV 2015)
Rating: Explicit
Warnings: None
Relationships: Kara Danvers/Lena Luthor
Characters: Kara Danvers, Lena Luthor, Alex Danvers
Additional Tags: Lab Sex, absolute nonsense, lena luthor protocol but it's smut, alex would like a very long vacation, Oral Sex. oh rao
Summary: Frustrated by the lab's glass walls and lack of privacy, Lena decides to use her genius intellect to build something that'll allow her and Kara to have some alone time in between missions. Alex really only wanted to put her scientific skills to use in the lab, but she ends up discovering Lena's prototype is not quite as successful as it originally seemed.
Notes: this is the result of a totally serious and normal conversation with @emiltons and I feel like it’s 100% her fault tbh.
[ao3 link]
It starts with Kara arriving at the Tower after a particularly challenging mission. She could’ve flown straight home for a shower and some well-deserved rest, but she knows Lena can’t sleep while Kara is on duty, and she knows exactly what her girlfriend does when she can’t sleep. So Kara walks straight to the lab and smiles at the sight of Lena in her element, inventing what Kara has no doubt will be yet another world-saving gadget for them to use.
For a moment, Kara just watches her, grateful for the glass walls allowing her to see her girlfriend work without having to use her powers at all. There’s something soothing about the way Lena works, slow and methodical and precise even when she’s doing it just to keep her mind from drifting to Kara and the dangers she faces as Supergirl. And really, there’s no reason Lena should worry for a minute longer than strictly necessary, so Kara finally pushes the glass door open and walks into the lab.
“Hey, I’m ba—“ Lena turns around so quickly, wraps her arms around Kara so tightly, that Kara can only let out a quiet chuckle and hold on, enjoying the closeness and the scent of Lena’s hair filling up her lungs as Lena lets the tension of the last fourteen hours dissolve into the hug.
“Hey, baby,” Kara tries again, softer this time, breathed against the skin of Lena’s temple, “are you okay?”
Lena nods, lips pressing against Kara’s neck for a parting kiss before she finally pulls away from Kara’s arms to take a good look at her.
“I am now,” Lena says, eyes narrowing just so as she takes in the rips on Kara’s supersuit. Fingertips touch the torn fabric on Kara’s waist and across her left bicep, the smudges of dirt and pulverized concrete on her neck and cheek. “Are you?”
Kara grins. “Takes a bit more than a collapsing abandoned building to stop your girlfriend.”
And then Kara flexes her biceps, playfully, just because she knows Lena gets a kick out of her playing the confident jock from time to time. She definitely (she swears!) isn’t thinking about her supersuit and the small tear right over her left bicep, and she absolutely isn’t anticipating the way the fabric rips over her flexed muscle.
But.
As innocent as Kara is in all this, and she cannot possibly overstate how innocent she truly is, she’s not complaining at all when Lena tilts her head just so, green eyes fixated on the torn fabric and the bulging muscle underneath as she slowly licks her lips.
“Oh,” Lena says — breathes, really — as she arches one eyebrow, “I see.”
And then she reaches up and traces the ripped fabric once again, fingers pressing just so, like she’s testing just how fitting that Girl of Steel nickname really is.
“Who else is here?” Lena asks, voice low and darkened green eyes fixated on Kara’s, “Are we alone?”
“I, um—“ Kara struggles to make her brain cooperate and process Lena’s words when it feels like every single nerve ending in her body has been rerouted to that exact spot Lena is touching, “I think J’onn… lives here?”
Does M’gann live here also? Kara doesn’t know. Kara doesn’t care. Kara can’t quite breathe right.
“It’s pretty late,” Lena says, and her voice sounds like sun-warmed honey tastes, “I’m sure he’s asleep.”
And Kara swears she tries to think about it. About whether it’s past J’onn’s bedtime, about whether J’onn has a bedtime at all, and about whether martians even sleep in the first place. But suddenly Lena’s free hand is grabbing Kara’s and guiding it down, down, down under her skirt, and Lena’s lips are pressing a warm kiss to Kara’s jaw, and Kara suddenly realizes what’s going on.
“Oh,” she breathes out, blue eyes fluttering closed for a moment before they widen in shock at the realization of what’s going on. “Wh— here!?” Don’t get her wrong, she makes no move to stop the path of Lena’s lips towards her ear or pull her hand away from the warm soft skin of Lena’s inner thigh, but still. You know. “Lena, we can’t—“
“Can’t we?” Kara can feel Lena’s smile against her skin, and the way Lena’s teeth graze her earlobe makes her fingers inch just that little bit higher up Lena’s thigh. “Why not?”
What an excellent question. Kara tilts her head to the side to give Lena’s lips and teeth and tongue free access to her neck as she tries to find the part of her brain that knows why they can’t actually have sex in the lab.
“Because…” Kara sighs happily at a particularly well-placed kiss, “…it’s kinda rude?”
She feels Lena’s chuckle rather than hears it, and it makes a little shiver run down her spine. “It’s rude?” Kara can’t see Lena’s eyebrow, but she’s sure it’s arched so very prettily right now. How unfair. “This is my lab.”
And you know, Lena makes a good point, Kara figures, hand moving further up under Lena’s skirt. This is Lena’s side of the Lab. Her office, sort of unofficially, ever since she became an official member of the team. But still…
“You’re such a goody two shoes,” Lena teases, pressing herself a little closer against Kara.
“I mean, I’m Supergirl. It’s kind of my th— oh —“Lena’s teeth nip at Kara’s neck, completely derailing her thoughts for a moment, “—thing.”
And Kara is almost ready to give in. She’s almost ready to accept that yes, this lab counts as Lena’s home away from home so it’s perfectly fine if they want to get frisky in it. Her hand finishes its trek up Lena’s thigh and finds damp lace waiting for her, and frankly, they’re grown ups. She’s a whole super heroine. If she wants to fu—
“Formic acid!” Brainy’s voice reaches them just a second before he walks into the lab, which is lucky because it gives Kara just enough time to disentangle herself from her girlfriend at the speed of light.
Brainy stares through the glass wall separating the main lab from Lena’s smaller area. His eyes move from Lena to Kara and then back to Lena again, brow furrowed just so as he tries to figure out exactly what’s not right.
“Formic acid?” Lena prompts as she opens the door, voice entirely too level for someone who’s just been nearly caught with her girlfriend’s hand between her legs.
“Ah. Yes.” Brainy nods. “Formic acid. Nia’s neighbor has ants. It gave me an idea for the antidote we were talking about earlier. I think if we just—“
“Tomorrow. Brainy.” Kara interrupts him with a smile, hand wrapping around Lena’s wrist to pull her towards the exit. They have things to do. Private places to be.
“Tomorrow?”
“Tomorrow,” Lena agrees, grabbing her coat on the way out of the lab.
***
It’s been three weeks since the formic acid incident — as Kara lovingly remembers it — when she gets to the Tower after a mission once again to find her girlfriend deep in thought at her desk.
There’s nothing particularly special about it this time. It’s early afternoon, her foes were rowdy but easily manageable, and her supersuit looks impeccable. And yet, when she walks through the glass door, Lena gives her a look.
A Look.
Oh, that look.
Kara knows the look. Knows what it means. And she very nearly offers to just fly them home right away to save themselves the pain of having to stop halfway through to relocate, but you know what? It’s a bit hard to think ahead when Lena Luthor in a deep burgundy dress is walking towards you with that look on her face.
“That was a quick mission,” Lena says, shaking her head just so to make her ponytail swish in a way Kara’s pretty sure should be some kind of illegal, “those bad guys were no match for Supergirl, huh?”
Kara is blushing. She can tell. She knows because she’s having to employ all her kryptonian strength to keep herself from saying golly or aw, gee or a number of other things that would frankly ruin this whole big super heroine fantasy Lena has going on right now. And who is she to ruin her girlfriend’s fun?
“N—no,” Kara manages, voice slightly higher than normal, and she clears her throat before continuing, “I’m super strong.”
Nailed it.
“You sure are,” Lena says with an amused smile, because she’s very sweet and she loves Kara too much to laugh at her, “do you wanna show me how strong you are, Supergirl?”
Kara nods. And then she remembers where they are and shakes her head.
“We should— I can fly us home.”
“But, baby,” Lena takes one slow step right into Kara’s personal space and Kara feels her brain begin to shut down, “I want you right now.”
“It—“ Kara is trying so hard to do the right thing here, she swears, even if her hands are already on Lena’s waist and she’s already pulling Lena close and Lena smells so very good, “but the walls, Lena.”
Kara can tell Lena is trying very hard not to laugh.
“The walls?”
“Yeah,” Kara presses a quick kiss to deep red lips, just because it feels rude not to acknowledge how delicious they look, “I get what you guys were going for with the… futuristic sci-fi interior design, but all this glass is not very private, baby.”
Lena grins. And it’s not just a regular charmed grin. Not the normal one she shows when Kara says something sweet or funny and her heart gets a little fluttery in her chest (Kara’s heard it). No. This is something else. This is the smile Lena wears when they absolutely destroy everyone at game night.
Lena’s won. What exactly she’s won, Kara doesn’t know yet. But oh, Lena has absolutely won… something.
“You know, you’re right. They’re not very private at all. That’s why I made this.”
Lena shows her what looks to Kara like tiny remote and pushes the button.
Lena Luthor protocol engaging.
Kara cocks one eyebrow at Lena, who simply shrugs as a small robot flies from under her desk.
“I named it after the original one. For nostalgia’s sake.”
Kara stares in confusion as the small robot hovers nearby and points what looks like a camera at them. Except it’s not a camera. It’s… some kind of spotlight?
“What’s it doing?” Kara can see the light inside the robot, can see it pointing the ray at them, but she sees no change in the lightning of the lab.
“It’s making us invisible.”
“What? I can see you,” Kara looks down at her hands on Lena’s waist, “I can see me.”
“That’s because you’re not looking through the glass. Look there,” Lena says, pointing at a polished steel surface on the main area of the lab. There should be a reflection there… but there isn’t one.
Kara stares, blue eyes wide and lips parted in surprise. She’s seen plenty of impressive tech since becoming Supergirl — let alone what she grew up with in Krypton — but this is something else.
Of course, the fact that Lena’s body is pressed up against her own, and the fact that she developed a whole new technology just to be able to get frisky in her glass-covered lab may have something to do with it.
“What do you think?” Lena does this thing she does where she sort of arches against Kara’s body in a way that makes Kara’s brain feel like it’s sloshing about in a sea of Lena’s perfume, and then presses her lips against Kara’s jaw, and to be honest Kara isn’t thinking at all right now.
“Wh— what?” One of Kara’s hands slides down from Lena’s waist to the curve of her ass, grabbing a handful of it as Lena’s teeth oh-so-gently nip at Kara’s bottom lip. “Wh—“ Kara tries again, barely above a whisper, but frankly she’s much more interested in kissing Lena like she means it — like she deserves to be kissed — and she completely forgets she’s been asked a question in the first place.
“Kara,” Lena pulls away from the kiss, lipstick a little bit smeared, cheeks a little bit flushed, breathing a little bit stilted, “I asked you a question.”
And you know, Kara is sure that’s true. She’s, like, so sure. But Lena is taking a step back to lean right against that sleek glass wall and pulling Kara along, and Kara’s brain is powerless to process anything beyond the fact that her girlfriend is practically begging her to have her way with her up against that wall.
And that’s… well, that’s something.
“Yeah,” Kara chooses to answer, because frankly she’d say yes to anything Lena asked right now and she’s a bit busy kissing up the path of freckles on Lena’s neck to care about the actual question right now, “yeah, baby, of course.”
Normally, Lena is far from pleased when she detects even a hint of Kara trying to placate her with mindless agreement, but this must be working for her because all Kara feels under her lips is an amused giggle right as Lena’s fingers slide into blond hair.
“What do you think of the new protocol?” Lena’s voice has a touch of teasing weaved into the words, like she knows the question is ultimately irrelevant but she likes watching Kara struggle to form coherent thoughts while horny. And, you know, Kara can respect that.
“It’s so good,” the hand that’s not on Lena’s ass moves up to cover Lena’s right breast, and Kara celebrates her own incredible luck by pressing a kiss to Lena’s lips, “you’re so smart,” another kiss, this time to a smile Lena can’t quite contain, “my genius girlfriend.”
Lena’s blunt fingernails lightly scratch at Kara’s scalp, making her hum happily against Lena’s lips. “You’re just horny,” Lena teases, her tone clearly stating just how happy she is that’s the case.
“And humbled! By your genius intellect.” Kara squeezes Lena’s ass and kisses the tip of Lena’s nose, because she’s cute and Kara knows deep down there’s a little part of Lena that will always need to hear how good she is out loud. “I can do both. I’m Supergirl.”
Lena chuckles, low and soft, and rewards Kara’s thoughtfulness with a kiss. “Well, Supergirl,” she says, shooting her girlfriend a look that hits Kara right between her legs, “if you’re feeling humbled, you may as well show me how much.”
And then. Then, Lena uses her grip on Kara’s hair to gently tug down, just so, just enough to make Kara’s eyes widen with the realization of where Lena wants her. On her knees. At Lena’s feet. And frankly, Kara files this under things they absolutely need to explore further, because she swears she feels her body temperature rise by at least a couple degrees.
But she’s not about to make Lena wait. So Kara slowly sinks down to her knees, blue eyes locked with green just so Lena can see. So Lena can see Supergirl kneeling at her feet.
When her right knee touches the floor, she hears Lena’s breath catch in her throat.
“Go on,” Lena says, upper back leaning against the wall, “show me.”
Kara nods, hands wrapping around lena’s thighs and slowly sliding up, up, up, bringing Lena’s pencil skirt along with them. She can’t resist kissing every inch of soft, warm skin she uncovers, lips trailing a path up one of Lena’s inner thighs and then the other, until all she needs to do is push the bunched up skirt up over her hips and ass to reach the lacy (Kara is willing to bet) fabric of her—
“Oh,” Kara breathes out, staring at the spot where Lena’s panties should be but decidedly aren’t. And Kara, to her credit, manages to look up into green eyes and shoot her girlfriend a teasing smirk along with a fake scandalized look. “Miss Luthor.”
There’s a dusting of pink across the bridge of Lena’s nose that Kara finds frankly unfair given the circumstances. “Well, I knew the prototype would be ready by the time you came back.”
“See? Genius girlfriend,” Kara smiles as she presses a kiss to Lena’s mound, pulling a happy little sigh out of her, “so smart.”
And then Kara stops talking, because she has much more important things to do with her mouth. Things like kissing the slick skin of Lena’s inner thighs, humming in delight at the smell and taste of her girlfriend and the way Lena’s fingers fist in her hair.
Kara takes her time, lips and teeth and tongue exploring every inch of Lena’s cunt but pointedly avoiding her clit, just because she happens to think there’s no sound more beautiful than the way Lena says please.
“You look so good down there,” Lena says, breathy and flushed, “right—“ her breath catches in her throat, and Kara smiles between Lena’s thighs, “—there.”
And this is why Kara will never really mind the way Lena teases her and makes her blush and stumble over her words. Because she knows the tables turn as soon as she’s between Lena’s legs.
“Where, baby?” Kara asks, her face the perfect picture of innocence as she presses a soft kiss just shy of Lena’s clit, “Here?”
Lena’s eyes flutter closed and she leans her head back against the glass wall with a smile. “Kara.”
She’s never Supergirl when they’re like this.
“Here?” Kara’s teeth gently nip at one of Lena’s lips, and then the other, “Or here?”
“Kara, please.”
And there it is. Right there, the most beautiful sound in the world.
So Kara decides to reward Lena by finally flicking her tongue against a stiff clit before wrapping her lips around it, and she doesn’t hold it against Lena when she pulls on Kara’s hair instead of saying thanks.
All slowness and teasing forgotten, Kara puts her lips and teeth and tongue at Lena’s service, letting Lena hook one leg over Kara’s shoulder to give her better access as she uses her hold on Kara’s hair to pull her closer still.
Kara feels like she’s drunk on Lena’s taste and smell and the sound of the moans she’s struggling to stifle. She can taste just how close Lena is, she can feel it in the way her thighs quake and her breathing gets more and more stilted and her hips rock harder and faster against Kara’s tongue.
“God, Kar—“ Kara hears the sound of Lena smacking one hand over her own mouth, keeping herself as close to quiet as possible — Kara is delighted for her own superhearing that allows her to hear it all anyway — as she rides Kara’s mouth.
She’s so close. So close Kara feels the one leg holding Lena up shaking perilously as a quiet moan escapes between Lena’s fingers, and Kara is just in time to prop her up with one hand as Lena finally comes, head tilting back and hitting the glass wall with a soft thud.
And that — exactly that moment — is when Kara freezes at the sound of someone walking towards the lab.
It’s been a while since Alex has been alone in the lab. It’s been a while since she’s been in the lab at all, to be honest. And that doesn’t seem fair, right? She may not be Lena or Brainy, but she’s a scientist! She can do science things. That formic acid conundrum they were talking about the other day?
Alex could have helped.
But do they ever ask Alex for scientific input? No. All Alex is good for is apparently acrobatic crime-fighting and daring make-up choices.
And she’s ready to prove her worth. So after checking that nobody’s already in the lab, Alex walks in and starts looking around. Innocently, of course. She’d never do anything really intrusive like go into Lena’s personal area or mess with Brainy’s future toys. No, no. But she’ll look around. Check out what they’re doing. See if anything looks like it could be solved by an actual medical doctor, thank you very much.
And then — then she hears it. Some kind of… thud?
On the other side of the glass wall, cloaked by Lena’s invisibility robot, Kara braces herself with one hand on the wall as she holds Lena up with the other. And Kara may be Supergirl, but there’s something to be said about trying to be quiet while holding Lena through a frankly earth-shattering — if she may say so herself — orgasm with her face still between Lena’s thighs.
It takes skill.
And Kara is managing just fine, mind you, until Lena twitches in a way Kara wasn’t expecting, and Kara loses her hold on her for just a split second before she presses her up against the wall once again.
Alex narrows her eyes. The thud she could ignore, but she swears there’s the faintest outline of a handprint on the glass. And just when she’s about ready to chalk it all up to sleep deprivation, she hears a… squeak. The unmistakable sound of skin sliding against glass.
And now it’s not just the handprint there. There’s something round next to it. Something like—
Wait.
Is that the outline of an ass?
“Oh my God, Kara!” Alex turns around, voice climbing higher in both pitch and volume as she speaks because she doesn’t know whether she’s just seen the outline of her sister’s butt or her sister’s girlfriend’s butt but either way she’d very much like to have her memory wiped right now. Is J’onn home?
“Not this again!” She continues, somewhere between horrified and desperate. To be fair, she’s never walked into invisible wall sex before, but she has interrupted a frankly worrying amount of heavy make-out sessions for the time Kara and Lena have been together, and she’d really rather not think about what those two would have done had she remained asleep for a few minutes longer the last time she agreed to a movie night.
It’s a pattern of emotionally scarring behavior, is all she’s saying.
“And you know!” Alex turns around, eyes squeezed shut because she does not want to catch even the slightest glimpse of that assprint ever again. “You know,” she bangs on the wall for emphasis, just once, “I’m all for pride, but there is such a fucking thing as a healthy amount of shame!”
Alex stomps out of the lab, and her aggravated footsteps can still be faintly heard in the distance when Lena clears her throat. She’s blushing bright red, but her voice sounds remarkably steady for someone whose left leg is still hooked over her girlfriend’s shoulder.
“Joy,” Lena says, and the sleek virtual personal assistant on her desk whirs to life. “Protocol prototype version 1.0 partially successful,” she dictates, “consider one-way glass going forward.”
“Oh, oh! And Joy?” Kara pipes up from between Lena’s thighs, “Please order Alex a ‘we’re sorry’ pie.”
Lena simply nods. “Make it strawberry this time.”

I beg your pardon but I need to rant
So.... Azie posted a BTS of filming 5x10 (directed by David) with William in Kara's apartment which probably is game night. This, once again, reminds me how the "superfriends" (and the show) have treated Lena so poorly.
I mean, William was a jerk to Kara for all 4 episodes until the last one where it was revealed that he's undercover to investigate Andrea. He says that him being a jerk was part of the act but I'm not 100% sold on his story just yet. Anyway, for the sake of discussion, let's just say he's telling the truth. The very next episode Kara introduces William to Alex and gives him access to the DEO.
Like what? That quickly? Why? What so special about him and his investigation that he was given such access so quickly? And without any effort to validate his story.
Time to insert some Lena parallels (or opposites tbh).
Remember when the DEO found out Lena had Reign/Sam. They went full investigation on her. Kara was livid when she found out Lena(her so-called best friend) had Kryptonite. When they asked brainy to project them to the valley, she only allowed Lena to join them to "validate" her story. Really? Your best friend that you knew for more than a year needs to be validated but dude you knew for probably less than a month doesn't?
I know she was probably shocked with the news of Lena having the villain who almost killed her imprisoned using the one thing that could kill her. But this deviates from the instinctual trust she had with Lena (who was caught in fake video stealing synthetic kryptonite to give to Metalo).
Shippers might say that these things are only being pointed out since William is a potential threat to supercorp. But remove any romantic possibilities to both, the fact still remains that William was given a free pass but Lena despite saving everyone's asses for 3 seasons now, doesn't.
To site another instance, let's bring back a discussion from season 4 where Kara was quick to embrace and include Nia to the group.
Yes, I know Nia is completely different to William in a lot of ways but it doesn't erase the fact that 5 episodes after she was introduced, Kara has already included her into the family and 8 episodes in, she knew of her secret identity.
Looking at Nia and Lena, what was the difference between the two? One is Kara's protegee and the other is her best friend. Why was one included in the loop immediately while the other was only invited to gathering more than a year after knowing her?
I mean, in the end, it's about Lena's origin. Why did it take Kara and the superfriends so long to include Lena in the group despite the many times she has helped them? Okay, I admit, she has some questionable ways of fixing things but it could have been avoided if she had people to discuss these ideas with and to tell her that it wasn't the best idea. I mean, they did that during thanksgiving when she mentioned about giving humans superpowers.
To echo what most people are saying, yes Lena has a right to be pissed off with Kara and her friends. But that doesn't mean the direction she's going to now is right either.
Kara needs to walk the talk like she did in season 2. She keeps saying that she trusts Lena and doesn't judge her for her name but treats her in a way that shows otherwise.
In summary: Lena continues to be treated badly. Kara is inconsistent. The writers are bad.
PS: No hate on Nia. She absolutely deserves to be part of the superfam. I just wish they could have included her in a way that doesn't show how much Lena is not trusted by the group. Also, I love Staz and I'm sad that he was given a character that is difficult to like.

ok but going about the logic of comics history isn't it brainy and dreamer a thing in the comics too? like i get that some people have different preference for ships and that's ok what i don't get is why you guys are always saying that if brainy and nia get together he is gonna mess up the timeline but dating kara it is okay isn't that double standard? I mean brainy soon or later have to go back home how do you see that play out if he dating anyone?(And sorry if i sound snappy )
It’s okay anon, I don’t think you’re being snappy. And I’m sorry if I sound frustrated at all, I promise I’m not frustrated with you. I’m actually just frustrated with the show’s apparent refusal to make these really important things clear to people who aren’t familiar with the comics.
(Though I have to be honest, I don’t actually read comics myself (yet). I just have a lot of friends who do. Most of the things I know about this stuff comes from @kara-querl, but I’ll do the best I can to explain the basics and hopefully clear up some of the confusing stuff for you. Again, it’s not your fault that you don’t know these things - it’s the show’s fault for not explaining them.)
Now, as for Brainy/“Dreamer” being a thing in the comics… you’re sort of right, but not in the way you’re probably thinking.
There is one version of Brainy (from a comics run called the Threeboot) who ends up with Nura Nal, aka Dream Girl. I’d highly recommend reading this summary of their story on twitter (just prepare yourself, because it’s a looong thread, and also, uh, the story is probably not what you’d expect it to be… especially towards the end).
However, Nura Nal is not Nia Nal. They’re two completely different characters, and both of them very much exist in the CW show’s universe. A lot of people watching SG don’t seem to know about this distinction (because the show has not outright explained it yet), so when they hear that Brainy had a relationship with “Dream Girl” in the comics, they assume (like you did) that Brainy/Nia is a comics canon couple like Kara/Brainy is. But that’s not actually true.
Nura is also the reason why so many people are worried about Brainy/Nia messing up the timeline. But more on that later.
For future reference, this is Nura (with a bonus Brainy in the background):
Tumblr media
She’s not really anything like Nia, in either personality, looks, or her dynamic with Brainy. They have basically the same powers (though Nura could never shoot “dream energy” out of her hands), and the writers seem to have borrowed aspects of Nura’s relationship with her sister Mysa for Nia and Maeve’s storyline, but that’s pretty much where their similarities end.
(The rest of this is gonna go under a cut, because it’s a LOT of information. I know you didn’t ask for a meta, anon, but that’s just kinda what happened, sorry. Hopefully it’s not too overwhelming.)
Nura is a descendant of Nia, the character that we have on the show. She lives in the 31st century and is a member of the Legion of Superheroes, just like Brainy. The fact that Nia is Nura’s great-great-etc-grandmother has been confirmed in multiple interviews. Here’s a quote from Queller (one of the show’s EPs) from SDCC, before the season even started airing:
Tumblr media
Hints about Nura were dropped in the show as early as 4.02 (which was probably close to being filmed around the time of SDCC). In that episode, Brainy asked Nia if he already knew her because she “looked familiar”, and then there was that look of recognition on his face when she told him her name…
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then in 4.08, when Alex asked Brainy if he knew about Nia Nal in the 31st century, his only reaction is this:
Tumblr media
Because it’s not Nia that he knows, it’s Nura. But he didn’t want to reveal too much about the future by saying that.
However, Brainy isn’t perfect, and eventually he slipped up. He accidentally called Nia “Nura” later on in the episode, showing how closely he associates them in his mind.
Tumblr media
This is the moment in which Nura’s existence was officially made canon on the show.
There’s also the moment towards the end of 4.08 where Brainy told Nia that she “contains greatness,” but he couldn’t tell her how he knew that. This isn’t directly a reference to Nura, but it stands to reason that Nura is the “how” answer to how he knows this about Nia/her family.
Nura is also presumably the person that Nia and Brainy were arguing over in 4.13, whom he refused to talk about. (Tbh, I think the fact that the show apparently skipped over Nia first learning about her descendant is a grave oversight, because for non-comics fans it probably appeared to come out of nowhere.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So, just to be completely clear: Nia has never been Brainy’s love interest in the comics (in fact, she doesn’t even exist in the comics at all - she’s an original character created for the show), and Nura, Brainy’s actual love interest (again, specifically only from the Threeboot comics run) definitely 100% exists in the CW show’s universe. We know this because there have been multiple references to her on the show throughout the entire season.
Based on the fact that Brainy is so familiar with how Nia’s powers work and how to train her, it stands to reason that he and Nura are rather… close. We just don’t know how close yet, because Brainy refuses to say anything about her to either Nia or us, the audience. At the very least, they’re teammates and friends. At most… well, they were engaged in the Threeboot, so…
So, to get back to your original question about shipping: From what I’ve seen, the fact that Brainy and Nura had a romance in the comics is actually a big reason why a lot of comics fans don’t ship Brainy/Nia. I can’t speak for everyone obviously, but I know that for quite a few people, the idea of Brainy dating Nia basically feels like him dating his girlfriend’s great-grandma (especially since Brainy’s references to Nura have made people wonder if they might actually have a romantic history on the show, too). It’s not quite on the same level as Marty McFly’s mother trying to kiss her own son in the first Back to the Future movie, but it’s still just… kinda squicky in a smiliar way, you know?
Nura’s existence is also what people are typically referring to when we talk about Brainy/Nia disrupting the timeline. If Brainy were to get with Nia, then that would essentially erase Nura from existence. We know that Nia’s timeline would get seriously messed up if she got together with Brainy, because she has a traceable lineage of descendants going at least 1,000 years into the future. If Brainy got in the middle of that, if he changed Nia’s destiny by allowing her to fall in love with him, then that whole timeline - Nia’s entire legacy, which Brainy is clearly familiar with - would be drastically altered.
What kind of person would Brainy be if he agreed to date Nia, knowing that doing so would erase Nura (and her sister Mysa, and anyone else related to them) in the 31st century? Knowingly and willfully wiping out an entire lineage, including someone that he personally knows and cares about? Does that really sound like something Brainy would do?
This is probably the biggest reason why Brainy/Nia just doesn’t work for a lot of us, particularly comics fans who have caught all the Nura references so far this season. It’s not about personal ship preferences - it’s about character consistency, specifically Brainy’s. We don’t want him to get with Nia because doing so feels wildly selfish and out of character for him.
(In fact, Brainy interacting as much as he already has with Nia personally stresses me out, because by pushing her to be a superhero and training her himself, he’s already altered her timeline in some unknowable way. We just have to hope he knows how far he can push it.)
Tumblr media
We’ve already seen Brainy caution Nia about them potentially creating a paradox, and it seems like they’ve had a similar argument to this one at least once before off-screen. He must know what the dangers of doing something as serious as getting romantically involved with her would be, because he listed them all off to Alex and Kara in 4.08:
Tumblr media
His Keanu Reeves movie quote excuse in the most recent episode (4.15) was flimsy at best, but when he says that he and Nia can never be together, his tone of voice noticeably changes to become more serious, making it obvious that he means it.
Tumblr media
With all of that stuff in mind now… do you see why so many of us are confused and even upset by the promise of more “will they/won’t they” for Brainy/Nia?
Why would the showrunners make Nura’s existence canon if they’re not going to even touch on the issue of how Brainy and Nia getting together would obviously erase her? It’s almost like the Brainy/Nia thing has to conclude with them not ending up together, because otherwise, what does that say about Nura, and the future that Brainy knows? It would change a lot - Nura, who has existed in the comics since 1964, would be GONE - and given how much Brainy has been shown to care about the future and the timeline, I just can’t see him going along with that. I just can’t. (And neither can a lot of other people.)
But of course, this is Supergirl we’re talking about here, so I don’t have a ton of faith in the EPs or writers. They could very well just ignore all that stuff and shove Brainy and Nia together anyway. So, this isn’t me saying that Brainy and Nia will definitely not get together. After all, I don’t write the show.
This is just me explaining why a lot of people don’t think that this Brainy/Nia storyline makes sense, given the show’s own references to Nura, as well as their establishment of Brainy as a character who cares deeply about the timeline. Brainy dating Nia would directly contradict both of those previous writing choices.
And why would the writers do that? Why would they directly contradict their own setup? Fans who are familiar with Nura and have picked up on all these clues are just frustrated because we don’t understand this.
TLDR: Brainy/Nia is not comics canon. Nia Nal is the ancestor of Nura Nal, Brainy’s actual love interest from the comics, who also exists within the show and lives in the 31st century. And Brainy/Nia getting together would erase Nura, and thus mess up the timeline.
Okay, that was a lot. Hopefully that cleared some things up for you about both the comic history, as well as the whole Brainy/Nia timeline issue. I’m gonna address the rest of your questions more briefly bc I’m tired now lol.
Why won’t Brainy getting with Kara mess up the timeline like it would with Nia?
The simplest answer to this one is that we don’t know what the future is supposed to hold for Kara. The Legion made a point of saying last season that their knowledge of the events of Supergirl’s future are vague and largely unknown. We don’t know anything about her having any descendants, or a specific legacy that needs to remain intact like Nia clearly has. (If they didn’t want to create this problem for Nia, then they didn’t have to establish those things for her either… but they did.)
What about Brainy going back to the future eventually?
I kind of already talked about this whole thing here, so you can just read that post to see my take on it. The bottom line is, I don’t think that’s the biggest issue here, largely for BTS/casting reasons. Basically, I think it’s very unlikely that Brainy is going to go back to the future anytime soon. And because of that, I don’t think it’s really necessary to bring it up as an argument against either Brainy/Nia or Brainy/Kara.
And finally, with regards to the whole “why do people keep saying that Kara/Brainy is THE comics canon ship when other ships like Brainy/Dream Girl also exist in the comics?” thing, which is kinda the whole point of your ask from what I can tell, I recommend that you check out this post and these tweets, which (briefly) outline all the different versions of Kara and Brainy that have existed in various media over the past 60 years, and how many of them have ended up with each other. (Spoiler Alert: There’s a very good reason why most comics fans are also Karadox shippers.)
So, in conclusion, can people ship Brainy/Nia if they want to? Of course. People can ship whatever they want. I ship Brainy and Winn after all, even though that’s not ever going to be canon, because I like their dynamic and shipping is supposed to be fun. If people want to create fanart or fics or whatever for Brainy/Nia, then they can totally do that. My issues aren’t with what ships people personally prefer. My issues are with what the actual show is doing in canon, especially within the context of the entire Supergirl mythos.
Look at it this way: If the show doesn’t have Kara eventually fall for Brainy, then CW Kara will be the only version of Kara who had a version of Brainy in her story, and did not fall in love with him.
Like, wow. Talk about going against history.

(1) Everyone keeps on going on about how Nia is like Nura and how she will get together with Brainy, but I noticed that in reality Nia only resembles Nura in powers and code name, who she really resembles is Mysa Nal/White Witch, Nura's little sister, I mean they are both the younger sibling, uniform wise Nia's outfit is very covering, like Mysa's, and unlike Nura's, whose most covering outfit has a large boob window , both Mysa and Nia have powers that no one else in their families have
(2) Both Nia and Mysa are somewhat scared of their powers (Mysa having a tendency to turn evil for short periods of time, her first appearance in the silver age for example), also both come from backgrounds of oppression (Nia a trans woman, Mysa’s origin story is clearly about being disabled, unable to see the future unlike most of the planet), and Nia when we first met her very clearly lacked Nura’s confidence. If they do Karadox, it should be noted that Mysa had 2 love interests.
Oh wow, okay, this is a lot of comics stuff lol.
I knew that Nura had a sister who didn’t have pre-cog powers like she did, but I didn’t know anything else about her before (I finally went ahead and looked her up after I got these asks, just to check out her bio for myself). And I mean…I can definitely see what you’re getting at with the Nia vs Nura stuff…but I’m not sure that I totally agree with all the Nia = Mysa stuff? (Sorry! I promise I’ll explain!)
There was some talk about Nura’s sister on here back when Nia’s sister was first cast (tbh, that’s the only reason why I knew Mysa existed - again, I’m not a comics reader, I just like doing research). I didn’t look too much into it at the time, but since we’re discussing it now, I decided to go back and take a look at the casting announcement for Nia’s sister, Maeve (who called Nia at the end of the last ep)…and honestly, I think she fits Mysa a bit better than Nia does?
(I’ll put the rest of this under a cut, in case people consider the casting info to be a spoiler and don’t wanna see it. Below the cut I speculate quite a bit about Sunday’s ep, and also explain why I don’t necessarily think that Nia is the one who’s the most like Mysa - though I also don’t think she’s all that similar to Nura, either.)
Here’s what the announcement said:
“Maeve Nal is described as being a driven young woman focused on maintaining her family’s rich legacy, and while she’s always had to work a little harder for her achievements than Nia, the sisters are described as having a very strong bond.”
I think it makes a lot of sense that Maeve felt like she had to work harder for her achievements than Nia, because a) she’s the oldest child (older siblings are often subjected to stricter parenting and given more responsibilities than their younger siblings), and b) she’s also the child without powers.
(I do wonder how Nia being trans factors into this, though - it seems like her family will definitely be accepting of her, but that doesn’t mean that she suddenly wouldn’t experience other hardships related to being trans, because obviously the oppression of trans people is institutionalized. So I kind of question the idea that she didn’t have to work as hard as her (presumably cis) sister…but maybe that’s just how Maeve sees things, and her viewpoint isn’t necessarily true? Idk. I guess we’ll find out on Sunday.)
I think it’s interesting (in a good way!) that the sisters are described as very close despite the whole powers thing, which could have easily been used to put a rift of resentment between them, especially since Nia has these powers but doesn’t seem to want them, and Maeve has no powers but is All About Their Family’s Legacy.
(That kind of “we have some issues but are still ride or die for each other” dynamic reminds me a lot of Kara and Alex in season 1, actually! It’s complex and I like that.)
Thinking along those lines, I wonder if there might be some kind of a conflict for Nia in the next ep, where maybe Nia feels like it should’ve been her sister who got powers instead of her? And that’s part of the reason why she’s so hesitant to use them?
And maybe Maeve has always been a little jealous of Nia for having powers that she herself probably wanted (or expected) to get, but more than anything else she still loves her sister… Ooh, what if Maeve is the one who ultimately convinces Nia to embrace her powers??
Like, I could see there being a part of Nia that subconsciously needs a nudge from her sister to go and be a hero and carry on their family’s legacy, because she always thought that that was going to be her sister’s destiny, not hers. And she can’t actually give herself permission to be a hero until her sister encourages her and tells her that it’s okay, that this can be Nia’s destiny, too - that their family’s legacy can belong to both of them.
That’s all just speculation, of course! I could be completely off the mark, but I gotta say that all this theorizing is making me REALLY excited for Sunday. :D
…Sorry, I got off track for a while there. Back to the whole Mysa/Nura/Maeve/Nia thing…
From what I understand about Mysa, when she found out that she didn’t have pre-cog powers, she decided to teach herself magic and became a sorcerer instead (please feel free to correct me if I’m wrong)? To me, that aspect of her character sounds more like Maeve, who’s apparently very driven and was forced to work harder for her achievements, as she was not naturally given powers like Nia was.
So that’s why I kind of disagree about Mysa being like Nia - perhaps the oppression angle could work, if the writers put more of a focus on Nia overcoming the hardships that she faced for being trans, but just based on the description of Nia’s family, it sounds more like Nia is in the Nura-like role despite being the younger sister, and Maeve is in the Mysa-like role despite being the older one? (Also, Nia/Nura and Maeve/Mysa - the first letters of their names match…not that that necessarily means anything, but still.)
I DO agree with the first thing you said, though: that Nia is similar to Nura in terms of powers and code name, but not so much in terms of her personality.
Now of course, I’m not super familiar with Nura’s characterization beyond what you can read in summaries and bios online, but even I caught onto the fact that she seems more confident in herself and her abilities than Nia does. Her and Brainy also have a more contentious and bicker-y relationship (at least in the continuity where they later become romantically involved), which isn’t like our Brainy and Nia at all. Nura is also a genius scientist, and thus very STEM-focused, unlike Nia, who is very much into the humanities and arts. Nura also has platinum blonde hair and is very glamorous, whereas Nia is a brunette and generally dresses more casually.
I’m not sure what all this means, really, other than the fact that it’s clear that Nura is her own character, who exists in the 31st century, just like Nia is her own character, who exists in the 21st century. While Nia is certainly related to Nura, we can tell by her personality that she’s obviously not actually meant to be Nura.
I think that’s the most important thing to take from all these comparisons, really.

brainy and kara are probably not gonna happen either i mean he's from another century wich it means he's gonna have to go back someday so doesn't make sense to star a relationship with someone from an diferent timeline this also applies to brainy and nia
¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I don’t necessarily disagree with you. I’ve said before that I’m not particularly optimistic about the show going for Karadox, even though I would very much like them to. (My doubts have less to do with what you said though, and more to do with the CW being the CW. But whatever.)
However, to refute your specific point: Kara and Brainy have this exact same time period problem in the comics, and yet they’re still canon there. It makes the relationship tragic more often than not, from what I can tell (unless one of them chooses to stay in the other’s time, like Kara choosing to stay with Brainy in the future in the JLU cartoon). But a potential tragic ending hanging over the relationship’s head doesn’t necessarily mean they won’t at least give it a try in the show.
It’s also entirely possible that the show will never actually get to the point where Brainy has to go back to the future (more on that under the cut).
To expand on what I mean: I know you’re thinking about the relationship issues logically, as if the show exists in real life, but it doesn’t, and so there’s BTS casting logistics to consider here, too. Namely that, unless Jeremy Jordan decides to come back to the show full time, they’re not gonna be able to bring Winn back from the future, which means that Brainy is gonna have to stay in the past indefinitely (meaning until whenever the show ends). Basically, they’re not gonna get rid of Brainy if they don’t have Winn (or someone else) available to fill the narrative niche that Brainy is currently filling.
(And tbh, I can’t see the showrunners wanting to get rid of Brainy, regardless, given how rapidly he’s become a fan favorite that literally everyone loves. That kind of popularity is rare for a male character on this particular show, and with this particular fandom. They’d have to be absolute idiots to get rid of him for no reason.)
And finally, riddle me this, anon: If not Brainy, then who would you pick to be Kara’s love interest? Because she can’t not have one (since every other Arrowverse lead has a LI, and romance is kind of the CW’s Thing after all). If it’s not gonna be Brainy, then that means they’re gonna have to introduce an entirely new male character that the audience will be forced to accept as Kara’s new LI (which is always a toss up, especially in this fandom, and especially after Karam*l). Who would that person even be?
Like, I know I sound kind of bitchy, and I’m sorry about that (though idk what else you’d expect, considering you came into my inbox to tell me that my preferred ship “probably isn’t gonna happen” lmao), but it’s also a genuine question that I don’t have an answer to. Can this show really strike gold twice, and produce a male character as well-liked as Brainy to be Kara’s new love interest? (Frankly, I don’t think so.)
Either way, none of this is gonna become an issue until next season anyway, because Kara isn’t going to have a love interest at all this season (which I am MORE than fine with tbh). We’ll have to see how the storylines and casting announcements shake out then.
For now, I’m just going to continue enjoying Kara and Brainy - who I should add are also my two favorite characters on the show individually, not just as parts of a ship - on my screen every week. I don’t really see the point in worrying about anything else just yet. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

please share the thoughts!
(For those not in the know, this is referring to my Thoughts about the way Nura’s name was dropped in the most recent SG episode.)
Okay, so I wrote out a ridiculously long and kinda confusing explanation the first time I tried to answer this, so I’m gonna try to Condense it this time. (Edit from future me, who just finished writing this whole long-ass meta: Sooo, condensing it Didn’t Really Work, and it’s obnoxiously long anyway. Oops. Oh well. At least it’s more coherent this time.)
(general warning for people reading this post who aren’t rachel: uhhh, maybe don’t look below the cut if you’re a big Brainy/Nia shipper? there’s no Hate, but there is a lot of theorizing about why I don’t think the ship’s actually gonna sail the way most ppl are thinking it will, sooo if you don’t want to feel bummed out, then maybe don’t read this. cool? cool.)
(also I fully acknowledge that all of this is Pure Speculation, aided by some ridiculously intense scrutiny of a tv show, and thus not an exact science, and completely likely to be wrong. but man, would I love to be right.)
So first, I’m just gonna talk about the existence of the namedrop in general. So, before that moment, we had no idea how important Nura would actually be to Nia’s story. The writers could’ve chosen to not even name her at all, and could’ve just left the reveal as something more general, like “Brainy knows something about Nia in the 31st century, but can’t say what because of Space-Time Continuum stuff.” But they didn’t - instead, they created a Very Specific secret that Brainy is now keeping from everyone.
This is absolutely a deliberate choice made by the writers. They already have Nia as a Nura-like character. They didn’t have to namedrop the actual Nura if they didn’t want to. They didn’t have to create that specific problem (the problem being that Brainy apparently knows Nia’s descendent really well). But they did anyway.
Additionally, the fact that they didn’t have a follow-up scene later in the episode where Brainy explains who Nura is means that all of this WILL come back up eventually. They won’t just leave that thread hanging. So, an important question to ask now is: What Big Thing is gonna happen between Brainy and Nia that forces Brainy to finally spill the beans about who Nura is?
My personal guess? Nia gets the wrong idea about their relationship, and either kisses Brainy or tries to kiss him, and he panics and blurts out that they can’t do that because he knows her descendent, so being with Nia either feels weird to him, or he’s worried about screwing up the timeline and potentially Marty McFly-ing Nura out of existence. Of course, in telling this to Nia, he’d have to explain who Nura is to both her and the audience.
(Wishful thinking? Maybe. Kind of a cruel bait-and-switch for the writers to pull on shippers? Yeah, I’d say so. But it’s not that different from what they did with Kara and Mon-El last season, and I actually think it’s a VERY plausible ending for Brainy/Nia, sooo…)
The Reveal™ could happen any number of ways, though, and I realize that. This one just seems like the most CW-style one lmao.
Okay, now I’m gonna analyze the Actual Namedrop Scene, because I can’t stop myself from theorizing and Tinfoil-Hatting™ about Brainy and Nura’s potential relationship in the 31st century.
First, I wanna talk about how intimately familiar Brainy is with Nia’s powers, and how they work.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He obviously knows these things because of how often he’s worked with Nura in the past - tbh, he and Nura probably discovered these techniques while working together to help her figure her powers out. So, Brainy doesn’t have to do any kind of trial-and-error process with Nia here, because he’s already gone through all that with Nura. This is his second go-around with all of this.
The concept of Brainy and Nura as a Dream Interpreting Duo is further solidified by this line:
Tumblr media
Without Nia even really asking him to, Brainy automatically assigns himself the role of her Personal Dream Interpreter, which again tells me that this is probably the exact kind of relationship that he has/had with Nura. He’s recreating his interactions with Nura without really realizing it (yet).
Note his body language throughout this scene. It’s not clinical or distant, which would imply that his dynamic with Nura was an impersonal one driven by duty or scientific curiosity - rather, it’s very personal, and intimate, and even Soft in a way that we’ve never really seen Brainy behave with anyone before.
(Brainy/Nia shippers are, of course, going to interpret this behavior as evidence for their own ship, but IMO it’s actually much stronger evidence towards a (former) Brainy/Nura romance, more than anything else.)
Whether or not there’s a romantic angle, though, Brainy and Nura are still clearly very close. I’d say that’s pretty undeniable at this point.
This is Brainy’s face right as he calls Nia by Nura’s name, btw:

(So frickin’ cute, oh my gooood. This is one of the biggest things that makes me question if his relationship with Nura might’ve been romantic at some point, because LOOK at this! Look at his FACE!)
Aaaand this is his face once he realizes that he Fucked Up™:

It isn’t even an ‘oh shit!’ reaction. He doesn’t blink or look startled. He just immediately and completely walls himself off. Because that Softness that he accidentally showed here? That smile, the Sparkly Eyes? Those were his feelings about Nura, getting tangled up in his conversation with Nia. Those words that he said to Nia? Are ones that he’s undoubtably said to Nura before.
That’s why the slip-up happened in the first place. He was talking to Nia, but due to the familiarity and intimacy of the moment, he was thinking about Nura.
Now I’m gonna talk about Tropes. Because I LOVE tropes. And as soon as the namedrop happened the way it did - in the middle of an emotionally vulnerable moment - my mind instantly went to the Wrong Name Outburst trope:

So like, Brainy saying Nura’s name when he did isn’t as bad as, say, him blurting it out in the middle of sex (lmao can you imagine), but it’s still not a good sign for Brainy/Nia, as far as I’m concerned. It’s never a good sign when a dude calls his supposed Love Interest by the wrong name after knowing her for a while. It just isn’t.
(It’s different if the Wrong Name Outburst had been a mistake from the first time they met - that’s a different version of the trope. Like, if Brainy had called Nia “Nura” outside of the pizzeria, then that’s an understandable case of Mistaken Identity. But to call her that when he already knows full-well who she is? Yikes lol, that’s a BIG romance no-no.)
Anyway, speaking of the pizzeria, if you click on the “You Remind Me of X” trope link, you can then scroll down to find this section:

The Flashback Echo mentioned here definitely applies to the pizzeria scene, right down to Brainy’s “Do I know you?” moment of startled recognition. If we’re following the logic of the trope, then it’s not a far stretch to assume that Brainy’s connection to Nura might’ve been romantic, most likely a “failed romance” (since I doubt Nura is dead).
Of course, Nura could also just be a really good friend, and maybe that would be enough to trigger the same reaction from Brainy…but there’s no way of knowing for sure until he lets the audience in on his secret. I’m really, really curious about what explanation they’ll go with, though. Personally, I hope it’s romance. But maybe that’s just me.
And now, finally, an add-on (because I can’t figure out where else to put it). Why do I think that Nura would specifically be a former love interest for Brainy, if she’s going to be one at all? Well, for two reasons:
1) They already pulled a Surprise Wife/Girlfriend trope with Mon-El and Imra last season, and IMO that’s a unique enough story beat that they wouldn’t want to use it again with Brainy and Nura, lest they risk the show becoming weirdly repetitive.
2) Revealing that Nura is Brainy’s Amicable Ex (meaning: they’re still good friends even though they’re not Together anymore) would be a good way to pay homage to the Brainy/Dream Girl relationship from the comics and give a definitive reason why Brainy/Nia can’t happen, while still leaving the door open for the writers to potentially explore…uhh, certain other ships next season. *COUGH* You know…potentially.
Thus my assumption that, on the off chance that they DO make Brainy/Nura romantic, it’ll be something in the past, that’s now over and done with.
(NOTE: The Brainy/Nura romance angle is really just a Pet Theory that I’ve grown particularly fond of over the past few days. Like…if I’m being Realistic, I think it’s much more likely that Brainy’s never been in a romantic relationship before in canon, given how little he seems to know about relationships and social cues in general. So, Nura will probably just be a close friend. But I think most of the stuff I talked about can still totally apply even with them just being close friends.)
Aaand…that’s it. That’s all I’ve got.

P.S. Like I said at the beginning of this post, this is all just Pure Speculation and Tinfoil-Hatting and I’m aware of that. I mean really, who tf knows what’s actually going to happen on this show? Def not me lol. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
So please don’t come for me if you have a different opinion lakjsdfkjd
