#like there was no buildup for bathena either

unpopular opinion time (probably) but imo 911 does a terrible job with the setup and beginnings of canon romantic relationships with the only exception being madney.
no matter which relationship it is but there is never enough buildup, it‘s rushed through too often bc some of the writers don‘t have enough patience apparently idk and some of it is so cliché.
they do a great job with established relationships tho, bringing up and working through the issues that often crop up when two people are trying to navigate the world together

911 doesn't do sex scenes so I honestly believe buck phone is gonna off and it either eddie or chris kinda like eddie and his alarm on his date.
I literally just made a post about this!!! 9-1-1 doesn’t usually but we’ve seen all of Buck’s sex scenes, including the one with her in season 2. So I feel like we’re gonna see it or the buildup to it 😒 but I will say that 9-1-1 doesn’t do sex scenes with the core couples!! We haven’t seen like any sex scenes with Bathena, Madney, or Henren sooo like this may be a good thing for us Buddie enthusiasts!!!

I’ve been seeing a lot of posts about how 911 never really builds up its couples before they get together, Madney being the only exception. And while i absolutely agree, i think with this outlier proving that they are very much capable of writing a proper relationship buildup, it’s safe to assume that the reason they didn’t with Bathena, Henren etc. is that they felt like they just didn’t have to. They didn’t have to sell the audience on these relationships. They knew that they would be enjoyed nonetheless and therefore decided to not „waste“ any time on the buildup.
But with Eddie and Buck, they have long since lost the chance to please the audience with anything less than a well-written, properly build up relationship arc that doesn’t start (and pretty much end) with the characters getting together after less than half a season of half-assed flirting. So BT might fit their pattern, but how likely is it that they actually apply that pattern here? We joke a lot about how the writers make stupid decisions, but maybe we shouldn’t underestimate them quite this much.
i completely agree! if you look at bathena, the appeal is two main characters who were developed and established separately outside of each other. so while there might not have been buildup, the audience was already invested in these characters. karen was written quite well and as much as i hate the cheating storyline, tracie absolutely killed it, as she does in all her scenes. plus the grant-nash and the wilson families are all very non-traditional family units, thus the appeal.
the writers are definitely not dumb, they're professionals here and they have to know the direction in which the buddie relationship is going. they've given up every single opportunity to pull them away from each other and give them proper romantic storylines. every single time someone new has come into either of their lives, their relationship with each other has always been strengthened. we joke about them writing themselves into a corner, but how much of that is accidental? they definitely, to some extent, know what they're doing.
i highly doubt b/t is gonna fit the pattern of bathena and henren. for one thing, taylor isn't an established, independent character. the b/t dynamic is hardly anything new or non-traditional. there's no build up to get people invested. every sign points to them not being right for each other, not being able to complement each other. so yeah, let's not underestimate the writers! it isn't over until it's over.
