every time the red-hair pirates get a new crew member, benn sits them down for a Talk. rules of the ship, what kind of behavior is expected, what kind of behavior is tolerated, and what kind of behavior will get you keelhauled. near the end of the talk, benn lays down the 3 most important rules:
there is nothing i can do about the homoerotic relationship capt has with the clown
trust in capt always. even if he doesn't look like it, capt has plan. believe always.
there is nothing you can do about the homoerotic relationship capt has with the clown
and as always, the newbie gets it into their head that they can fix capt and the clown and sets up some convoluted plan to get the two back together again. and as always it fails because capt and the clown will dead and rotting in the ground before they ever Talk to each other properly. benn needs a fucking pay raise.

i don't think i can fully express like. just how deeply irritated i am comparing all of the other female characters' designs with asha's. watching disney be HIGHLY capable of adding variation to character design but knowing they'll never make any of these women the lead And Knowing Full Well Why. like brennan lee mulligan voice SO WE DO MAKE FOOD HERE. SO WE DO MAKE FOOD.

Last year I worked as a teaching assistant for a journalism camp and because they had fewer students last year they ended up expanding my duties because they had a group of students wanting to learn about opinion writing that was too small to justify hiring official faculty for it... I was willing to do it because I love opinion writing and it ended up being the case that all I had to do was take the opinion kids from a larger feature writing group occasionally. Plus, they called me ahead of time and worked it out with me and so I was prepared and it was fine!
I return this year and they say nothing to me, so I assumed my role is going back to normal bc they have way more kids this year and thus could hire more full time faculty but I learn like a week ago they expect me to do the same thing but with double the number of kids for the same shitty student pay 🫠

Two minor things I wish were a bit clearer to people about the American political system:
Lawmakers will often propose bills that have no hope of passing in order to make a political statement, appeal to a specific electoral demographic, or appeal to their donors/lobbyists. Just because a super progressive or absurdly fascist bill is proposed does not automatically mean it will leave committee (i.e., will not face a full vote) or even have a hope of passing.
The FDIC is funded entirely by banks themselves. It is insurance, after all. Taxpayers only indirectly fund it by having their money in a bank. The recent "bailouts" of Silicon Valley Bank and the other failures were to cover the deposits of clients not to bail out the bank. Those deposits were more than covered by the large amount of money the FDIC has been able to accumulate over the years. While deposits above $250,000 aren't automatically guaranteed by the FDIC, they can still be covered if the FDIC has the money. It is, once again, insurance after all.

That “tepid take from a gay Satanist” person was unintentionally funnier than I will ever be. I will NEVER be tired of Christians admitting they agree with me and being pissed off about it
