It's hilarious that Gojo/Geto and Bakugou/Midoriya are the two relationships that stick out specifically considering their creators intently make them complements of one another.

Gege Akutami cited specifically that Gojo and Geto were designed to be a duo in an interview with Mandou Koboyashi (shout out to twitter user @/soukatsu_ or @soukatsu here as the real MVP for translating and adding further context for other fans). Fans seem to recognize their yin and yang design everywhere. There are countless salt and pepper shaker videos set to Ricky Montgomery's "Mr. Loverman" on tiktok, I'm positive. This is despite being marked by their dissonance.

Kohei Horokoshi has Bakugou and Midoriya recognized as two halves of the same whole by other characters in the story, most remarkably All Might who in many ways carves the deepest chasm(s) between them. The wax and wane of their unique development as individuals being integrally related is also something to note.

But this isn't unique to these two stories. I haven't even watched Naruto but know that Naruto and Sasuke serve as the sun and the moon to one another (literally within the story, their seals and by design/disposition) and I'm sure we could find this in other shows I haven't hyperfixated on haha

There's probably nothing new I can add to the MLM shipping discourse in shonen/seinen genres that hasn't been said, especially when it's been so eloquently broken down by IG user @/ariavelz. I also think there's a fair amount of queerbaiting in mainstream media and anime alike. Five seasons of Free! comes to mind...

But, the fact that the song playing during Yuta and Rika's final moment in the fight vs. Geto and subsequently during the final moments Gojo and Geto share in that alley in JJK 0 was called "This is Pure Love"??? That's when I knew there were some Satosugu's on staff at Mappa. I don't think we need to dig into the parallels of how Yuta's fondness for Rika being the catalyst for her becoming a curse was the same way Gojo's fondness subsequently led to Geto's "comeback". Gojo, based on his experience at the time, said "love is the most twisted curse of them all" and time showed him just how twisted it really could be in season 2.

NOW THE OP!? It's just so lonely. Their cursed techniques being at odds with one another is so tragic, in a sense, and ultimately creates this divergence from one another. Geto, a genius of diligence, nobly consumes and sullies himself with the curses he has to imbibe like a martyr. Gojo, a genius of happenstance, is pristine. Born into privilege and untouched by the need to work hard or literally touch curses which Geto later grows to resent.

Meanwhile, Gojo's largely a product of isolation as imposed by his status and cursed technique and "Ao no Sumika" or "Where Our Blue Is" by Tatsuya Akitani waxes on about how, despite his best efforts, he could never reach Geto. The irony. As the story continues, we do, in fact, see that Gojo's never changed in the canonically affectionate way he regarded Geto. I think about this dissonance a lot. Literally, how did your Six Eyes miss that?

Now, I initially assumed the EP was from Gojo's perspective because Geto only seemed to smile in his presence (who's blushing face are we trying to see, afterall?). However, it is said to be from Geto's perspective and that, too, makes sense. Two viewpoints acting as bookends of the history between them.

I think what's sad about it is the way in which Gojo's POV is centered wholly on Geto, regardless of who or what he became; whereas Geto's perspective is more broadly applied to Gojo in part but also his own turmoil and moral dilemma.

Part of why Geto is thrown into such chaos is because of his inherently principled existence and yet, he is still the moon to Gojo's sun (Naruto, what are you doing heree?). Where Gojo always held a place for Geto, I think Geto assumed that his radicalization and subsequent defection marked a departure from Gojo because he was never really one to exist in shades of grey. Even if his impetus for this new society was ultimately to protect Gojo (and others like him) in the only way he felt he could.

Terfs are a high control group, and so are the community which is basically their inverse: the black-pilled part of the manosphere/incels. Once again most people in those groups are also in or formerly from fundie Christian cults. In the case of terfs, some people in the community genuinely believe that they are progressive and feminist which I find very darkly funny given that the entire terf movement has been proved to be intentionally created and spread by, you guessed it, the same fundamentalist Christian evangelical death cultists who are trying to seize governmental power and proposing anti trans bathroom laws and bans to anything remotely sexual or divisive in internet spaces.

Multi-level-marketing companies form high control groups out of their ‘sales rep’ consumer bases who don’t realize that 96% of them will never make a profit and they’re not supposed to, because they are actually the company’s market. And yes, mlms are incredibly popular with people who are also in a fundie cult, which is why they’re the most popular in the United States in Utah.

And the anti-shipping community is also a high control group which has found extreme purchase in algorithmic rabbitholes on tiktok and twitter. And it’s pretty apparent that most people in that community are either currently in some sort of repressive Christian religious environment or formerly so, given how many of them keep telling people to burn in hell for disagreeing with them.

Anyway I saw a TikTok recently that had what I considered a good explanation: it's fetishizing if what appeals to you about it is the fact that they're queer men/men in a queer relationship. Not the chemistry or dynamic, not that you like the characters, not that you want to explore how the relationship would go, just that they're queer men (or men in a queer relationship) and nothing else.

Considering I highly fucking doubt that's the motivation of more than a fraction of people, making claims that it's inherently fetishistic for women to read mlm pairings is fucking stupid.

lol some people need to look outside their fandom circles. there was a recent ask referencing how anti's are okay with some ships where the characters are underage but not others, and the example used was Percy Jackson/Annabeth Chase. I've been in that fandom nearly constantly since 2006. There are unhinged ships and a lot of people ship a fuckton of things. There are anti's and there's a slew of people who are only into the "canon" ships or whatever, but to say all people who ship Percabeth attack others is demonstrably bullshit for a large portion of the fandom. Not all, but a lot of it. I ship it and so does the group I talk to. And I also ship Percy/Kronos and no one bats an eye.

One of my favorite authors in the fandom writes a lot of Percy/Annabeth but also writes ships with major age differences, power dynamics, uses tags and warnings antis hate for, off the top of my head, at least 4 different ships. From what I can see on their AO3 and tumblr, no anti had come near them, and they write fics that consistently get engagement and are discussed in multiple servers I'm in. Even ones that are more anti leaning in general, and a small Percabeth server. There are people who only write and interact with Percy/Annabeth, but I see so many people in servers and on AO3 who talk about them and also other ships. In 17 years in the fandom, it's had it's periods of hell (a lot of people got particularly furious at one MLM ship and an artist), but having also been in Star Wars since 1999... it's a fandom with overall a lot of multi shippers and a lot of people who just stay in their lane. The anti's are just loud when you encounter them. The people I've seen who get shit are the ones who don't mind their own damn business.

Maybe I have the right people blocked, or maybe I'm too old to interact with thew bullshit anymore. There are anti's in the Percy Jackson fandom like there are any. I was on PJO tiktok for a hot minutes and they're particularly terrible there. But lol as far as fandom goes, it's a pretty good one at staying in their lane. To be blunt the worst anti's I've seen are people who are against the popularity of Percabeth and go out of their way to tag it and make posts about how it's abusive and Annabeth is the worst character in the series because she.... judo flipped Percy that one time.

Basically I have a lot of thoughts on this having been steadily in the fandom for nearing 20 years. I'm considering going back to university and focusing on fandom, and highly considering using PJO and some of the things I've mentioned above as a jumping off point.

"they are wizards, which isn't realistic, but you choose the time period misogyny as a hill to die on?" the marauder fan replied to me (and im quite literally quoting on what a creator said to me, this isn't an exaggeration). meanwhile canon sirius black: *harrasses snape for dressing more femininely/more outside gender norms* yeah and you think that boy would be a feminist...

you may think to yourself: when did [insert ship] become a thing? why is this happening? who even is this person? most of the time, it's all in good fun, sometimes, however, ships are created that purely contradict the entire point of said character. snily was criticised for doing exactly this, and now look at where we are.

after reading these points, you may come to the conclusion: holy shit the problem is just marauders fans. in fact, you may take it one more and remember more shit that had occurred due to this sub fandom of the harry potter universe. ever been criticised for not characterising purely fanon (dorcas, marlene etc etc) characters properly? ever been attacked for calling out the hypocritical stanning of barty, evan, regulus and peter whilst piling all blame onto bellatrix or snape? yeah me too babes.

I love the marauders fandom to death but please give sapphic relationships the same attention and love. yeah it's fun to talk about the potter family always falling for some slytherin and stuff like that but when we only allow ourselves to focus on mlm relationships it harms so many people

wlw, nblw, and nblnb relationships should not just some side thing that gets put in stories because people don't know what to do now that the men are paired off

a lot of people in this fandom brag about us being progressive and inclusive as a whole but when it is only mlm ships dominating our fandom there is clearly something wrong

in fanfiction and fan content there has always been a heavy preference for mlm ships and that was mostly due to there being very few (sometimes no) well written women in the original media that stayed alive. Even if there where multiple well written women in that media they probably weren't the main characters and might not have even met. even if you wanted to go back further in history when anti queer laws where being drafted they were only made against men because men didn't think women smart enough or didn't have the autonomy to be queer.

we don't rely on canon for majority of our information and we don't live in the past so why is this blatant misogyny living in our fandom?

the best way to support everyone in our community is to uplift these ships and interact with these stories, edits, headcanons, and creators

im realizing that most of the time when people claim a show with queer rep is “for straight people” the show in question is largely positive and lighthearted and im starting to think that rather than that term being accurate (which i already didn’t due to other reasons), y’all just don’t want to be happy

this is also coming from the anti-bl movement, and bl is a whole topic on its own, but the specific movement on tiktok seems to have gone full circle back to regular homophobia in their puritanical crusade against mlm ships, cause i’ve yet to see them claim that a ship isn’t fetishization, so it seems they’ve reached a point where they’re accidentally arguing that gay people shouldn’t be in media

Black people have been calling Taika out for his anti-black racism in his previous show Reservation Dogs since last year. I think that ofmd had taken the brunt of it because it's featuring real historical figures that were slave owners and turning them into mlm wuhuh little babies or whatever fans have been doing lately. Do you ever get sad about all the "fuck men" and "men suck" and like "ew your dating a man??" Stuff on tumblr? As a trans guy I even avoid calling myself a trans man since then I'm accociated with manhood but.. I am a man. I love men too. And I do like 'boring ugly man clothes.' Its wierd growing up as a little girl who was shamed for being boyish and growing up to be a man who is somehow back in that same cycle. I liked those black and white ugly camo zip off pants as a little girl because they were made for boys but my grandma bought them for me anyways. Idk men can be cute and hot and wholesome and sweet and I like them and am not ashamed or regretful of my attraction to them, and I am not ashamed or regretful to be one.

sam acquires  a mass following on stan twitter (like obama’s hot speechwriter!!) and it completely gets out of hand. secret service gets involved when a @WhatSamsWearingToday account manages to get a picture of sam in the oval office. cj is getting questions about fanfic in the press room, toby draws the short stick and ends up having to explain to leo what exactly the omegaverse is and why it’s an issue that the presidential seal is being associated with it 

hey remember how in season one they told us sam is a passionate, hobbyist sailor and then literally never revisited it? well in 2021, sam has a sailing vlog that he puts an absurd amount of effort into. he walks viewers through prepping, techniques, equipment, and then does cool shots on the water where he explains political concepts and the like. he’s getting very popular, and donates all the proceeds dc school funds 

sam is dc’s most eligible bachelor but his love life is a screwball comedy of errors. not once in his life has he been able to successfully pick up on the fact that handsome business man of the week is trying to buy him a drink. he just thought the dude was really interested in sam’s hot takes on geology

sam gets canceled on tiktok for supporting fast fashion after a video of him wearing a shein frog bucket hat gets leaked. what tiktok doesn’t know is that it’s actually toby’s hat. 

i got into this in my most recent fic but sam has A LOT of opinions on princess diana, meghan markle, and the rest of the royals. it’s beginning to become something of a foreigns relations crisis because he keeps putting in subtle anti-charles messaging in whenever they’re writing for uk stuff

despite being a man of the 21st-and-2-decades-century, sam is desperately out of touch. he’s can quote maybe three vines at best, and is frightened deeply by tiktok. his instagram still has the auto-post on facebook feature activated and he doesn’t know how to turn it off, which josh thinks is very funny

after josh makes a particularly embarrassing blunder with the senate, cj comes up with the brilliant idea to collaborate with vogue to do one of those “the bartlet admin senior staff answer 73 questions” videos where they essentially do walk-and-talks. you’d think this would go over well but sam gets so overwhelmed by a question about his zodiac sign that he flips over a chair and knocks down donna. the clip goes viral so i guess cj’s plan to distract from josh worked out in the end lol

speaking of Racism in fandom, the absolute disingenuous antis who use racism to justify their hate. Not even to mention how racist fans tend to be when it comes to east asian media, but how anti-racist "action" is their excuse to bully. Proshipping is "white people behavior" and the highest crime one could commit is """whitewashing""" a dark skinned character. Most antis don't even know what the term whitewashing means, they think it's like taking white out to a black (always african american and never anything else) character's skin. Not only are their notions of race activism wholly American lib inspired, they're stupider than the average libs take too.

I can't help but wonder how their views work in real life. They do not know that the concept of whiteness is ever changing to keep a select few in power, they can't define whitewashing, the worst hatecrime they've had to endure is someone on tiktok calling them stupid. With the recent chinese femboy ban, the crazy ass Genshin Impact fandom said it was a good thing because then a popular mlm ship that antis hate would be banned. The Mihoyo devs don't ever want to stream in english because of how racist fans are in their chat. In the more broader anime fandom, supposedly 'pedophilic' and 'incestuous' ships are a product of the simple Asian need to fuck children, according to them. They're on the verge of saying slurs with #stopasianhate in their bio. This doesn't even mention that no one knows what the ethnic minorities in any east asian country are and they don't care to find out. I'll admit, I follow some antis, they're shit but art and writing is art and writing, and it's good to follow people you disagree with to keep the reason why I believe what I do fresh. I've never seen a single one of them talk about the Uigher concentration camps in China, even the Chinese Americans who weaponize their identity to lend credit to otherwise stupid ass opinions. They have no clue of Imperial Japan's legacy in Korea and China. They find the few black people in these countries and make them their martyrs without even knowing the history of anti-black racism in east asia.

Okay, this makes me very, VERY irritated. Don’t get me wrong, I do like that cottagecore is becoming more mainstream because that means there’s more people to enjoy this aesthetic with and that’s great! BUT ironically cottagecore is quickly becoming commercialized and that’s just... what the fuck. Also it’s quickly becoming this thing for the wealthy to play with until their bored with it. I can’t go on the cottagecore tag on TikTok (although I do post in it) because the rich straights have just ruined it there. But that’s a whole other post tbh.

Anyway cottagecore came from HERE. It spawned from the mlm and wlw on tumblr posting about how they want to run away with their partner and live in the woods. That’s the origin, not TikTok. Trust me, I’ve been here from the start 5/6 years ago. The ironic thing comes in when you know cottagecore (try’s it’s best) to be ANTI capitalism. So why on earth would anyone go out and buy their uwu cottagecore aesthetic maxi dresses from fucking Amazon or H&M of all places? It just makes me angry that fast fashion and consumerism is trying to shove its stupid little nose into this little subculture and profit off of it. WITHOUT EVEN GIVING CREDIT TO THE GAYS IT CAME FROM.

Obviously this isn’t the worst offender leaching off of cottagecore, there’s still the nazis, but it’s just irritating.
