Broke: Acknowledging that a character who is an objectively terrible person is also a complex and intentionally well thought out individual with different levels of nuance you can empathize with in some ways while not in others is immediately “woobifying” or “poor little meow meowifying” them.
Woke: “This character is a bad person” and “this character is still a person” are two statements that can, should and do coexist and admitting that they exhibit nuance and depth and are more than just their bad actions doesn’t immediately excuse or condone their bad actions or mean that you’re ignoring or trying to soften the canonical version of the character.
Bespoke: That’s the whole point, that’s always been the point, to be made to empathize with horrible people so you can understand that they can be anyone, that bad people can be likeable, can be interesting, can be human, are human, and it’s scary to think about all the ways they’re just like you and all the ways they’re just like everything you hate, forcing the use of critical skills in media analysis, forcing a confrontation of the duality of man.
Whatever Level is Above Bespoke: But sometimes, yeah, sure, maybe they are a poor little meow meow, what are you gonna do, get a lawyer

it's been a really long time since i wrote porn for porn's sake. here u go. it's alpha nanami :)) i don't have a title for it oops
cw: alpha!nanami, omega!reader, a/b/o, breeding, knotting, heat and rut cycles, dubcon on both sides, fingering, cohabitation, taboo, protective nanami, i feel like there is a slight primal kink in here, light dacryphilia,
wc: 3.1k
Tumblr media
nanami didn't mean to take in a stray, but that's sort of how it happened. you're staying with him until a particularly careless friend helps to find a suitable living arrangement for you. nanami really isn't sure how it became his problem, but he'd feel awful if he'd told satoru no and left you without somewhere to go, no matter how against living with an omega he is.
frankly, nanami doesn't support the idea of alphas and omegas living together. he thinks it's a bit perverse. there's far too much at risk and the situation can become dangerous if it's the wrong pairing. sure, sometimes it works out. the better of his kind (of which he considers himself to be) give the necessary space and resist the temptation, but the others... take it too far. it'd be easier for you to live with a beta, and nanami wonders why satoru didn't first go to one of them. maybe your pheromones are weak and satoru isn't worried. that's probably why he hadn't noticed them when satoru first brought you by to ask if it'd be okay.
he knows that second gender is a spectrum. some alphas and omegas hardly emit any pheromones at all, even during heat and rut cycles. nanami thinks he likely falls into this category, seeing as he's never been particularly tempted by an omega and very few have ever been all too tempted by him, but it's a gamble. it's—frankly—unethical to ask this of him and though nanami knows that he should have said no, something in his good nature compelled him to say yes.
you've weak pheromones too, he thinks. he, of course, can feel them to a degree, but seeing as you mostly keep to yourself, it's hardly a problem in the first few weeks. frankly, the most tempting thing about you is that you're beautiful. you seem to have an almost standoffish air about you, proud and dignified, with a preference towards a more solitary and observant lifestyle. most of the day, the two of you hardly even see each other, going about your lives entirely separately only to settle into the same house for bed at night.
you don't say much when you're home. in fact, nanami would wonder if you could speak at all if it weren't for the conversations he hears you having on your phone and the little laughs or eyerolls you give in response to his comments. there's understanding there, but it's silent and you hardly ever dignify nanami's words or invitations with a response. maybe you're airing on the side of caution. he wouldn't blame you if you are. so, for the next two weeks the two of you coexist without so much as a hello between you both, silently sharing a space. you stay out of the way and nanami pretends that he isn't slightly unsettled by your constant proximity and the creeping feeling that you don't really like him all too much.
"they're a little difficult," says gojo over the phone. "kinda standoffish and really smart."
"so i've noticed," nanami responds. "i can't say i blame them though. you've put us in a weird spot."
"oh, nanamin, i know you well enough to know that you wouldn't lay a hand on them even if they begged," satoru laughs. "and they really might."
nanami grimaces at satoru's statement.
"i still don't understand why it had to be me," nanami says flatly. "you could have called ijichi. it'd probably be safer."
"how noble," satoru snickers, "but i trust you. hang in there a few more weeks. we've been working on securing an apartment for them and once we do, they'll be out of your hair. you're an angel for letting them stay." he sing-songs into the receiver. nanami holds it away from his ear.
"sure," he says. "it's not really much trouble... it's just.."
"that they're an omega. i get it. stay strong or whatever lol," satoru laughs. "unless of course, you really like them."
nanami huffs and hangs up the phone. satoru's got a good head on his shoulders, but he knew where that conversation was going. satoru was likely to say something about your heat cycle and nanami, being an optimist in cases like these, hopes silently that it won't come for another two weeks. he knows he could ask, but he worries about coming across as something of a creep. nanami is a little orthodox in the sense that he believes alphas and omegas should be separate for this reason exactly. suppressants exist but they don't always work and though nanami has sense about him, he's always had an insecurity about the kind of monster his second gender could make him. it sets him at ease a little that your pheromones appear as weak as they are.
you round the corner into the living room, standing just on the far end of the room. you're wearing pajamas, but you seem to feel no need to cover yourself or hide any perceived indecency. nanami glances at you, making a point to avoid looking at the shape of your body. it's inviting and you look at him for a moment with a small smile before raising one single eyebrow and letting out a low huff of air. nanami decides that you'd heard his conversation and he watches you shake your head as you move to the kitchen to peruse what he has. your hips, swaying slightly with each step, draw his attention to the curve of your ass and he feels ashamed for even having looked.
you're beautiful, that's certain. even the way you move is beautiful. nanami has eyes enough to see that. something stirs inside of you when he speaks, wordless recognition, maybe amusement or irritation, and vice versa. regardless, it's beautiful and nanami finds that the longer you're here the more he has to swallow it down.
you seem to get a little uncomfortable if nanami has people over, even for a moment. not that you've ever said anything about it, but you appear set on edge when he does so in the following weeks, it leads him to not bring anyone over at all. he can't bear the idea of making you uncomfortable. for as little as you've spoken to him since you've been here, nanami finds that he's grown rather fond of you. if things continue this way, he should hate it when you leave. admittedly though, he's looking forward to it a little. nanami feels that you're... a temptation. one he can't really seem to overcome.
one evening, you sit down in the living room with him. it draws his attention to look at you.
"i'm not mean, you know," you say flatly.
nanami is astounded to hear the cadence of your voice so clearly and without prompt. he can only offer a nod in return.
"i'm just picky," you continue, shifting in your seat as if you're made uncomfortable by the way you're sitting. "i have to be, being the way i am and all."
"i understand. i'm not offended," nanami says. "but some people would probably call that rude."
you smile at him, coy and delicate. "would you?"
"maybe," he offers. "if the circumstances were different."
nanami clears his throat, furrowing his eyebrows at your body language. something's off and he wonders if maybe your cycle has begun. he shifts on the couch and turns his full attention to you.
you move over to him and sit just adjacent to his leg. something in him stirs, primal and unrecognizable. you've never been this close and he only now notices that you smell nice, like something light and fresh.
nanami feels his chest stir. "this is the most you've ever said to me, i think."
"sorry," you say.
"don't be," he responds.
this conversation is awkward. it's loaded. it's like a conversation between two people who can't exchange more than a few words without experiencing intense sexual tension. he clears his throat.
"i need your help," you mumble, shifting closer. he knows what you're implying.
"i can't help you," nanami responds through gritted teeth.
"please," you say, standing slowly. you linger in front of him for a moment before reaching out and slowly straddling his legs. nanami flinches as you settle on him, pausing for a moment to breathe. "touch me."
you place your head against his shoulder, fingers grabbing his shirt as if you're agitated. the skin of your cheek is warm against his collarbone and he can feel your hair against his jaw. you twitch lightly when you touch him. carefully, he places a large hand on your head. your whole body flinches, unbelievable warmth soaking into his skin.
you feel like you have a fever and the next time you raise your head, your eyes have gone glassy, face darker. your lips are wet and lightly parted and a layer of sweat covers your forehead.
"not like that," you say, something needy creeping into your voice.
nanami, against his better judgement, rests his hands on your waist. you shudder under his touch and he slowly strokes the exposed skin of your sides with his fingers. trailing the pads of them against raised goosebumps on your skin. between your legs, he can feel heat. he knows you're wet and he knows what you want. nanami isn't sure he can give it to you, he's unsure that he should. it's not illegal, but he feels that it's wrong. something about it is fundamentally wrong and the situation goes against all of his morals. his mind still wanders.
you rest your forehead against his chest, and he feels your pheromones as they hit his nose and soak in through his skin. his body responds, tensing. your breath picks up, little heaves and pants, and you squirm down against him almost involuntarily. nanami feels himself grow hard. it surprises him and shames him. he feels heat rise to his cheeks at the realization that he's pressing up against the inside of your leg, something that makes you stir and settle directly over him. every exhale from you is a borderline whine and the syrupy smell of you grows more intense by the moment. nanami still runs his fingers along your sides, venturing over your tummy and back occasionally.
"just a little bit," you command, rubbing your cheek against him and then placing your mouth on the side of his neck and biting. "i'm sorry. just a little bit."
nanami winces and you drag your hips over him. his hands fly to yours, gripping hard enough as you make you whine.
"i can't," he grits out, speaking directly against the way his cock throbs against your core. he can feel it's dampness, a humidity that soaks through his pants.
"it hurts," you mutter and nanami feels an unpleasant stirring in his stomach. he hates the thought of you being uncomfortable.
"maybe we can find help-" you twitch over him, making him wince, "for you."
you shake your head, "you."
nanami exhales and tips his head back, his fingers still on your waist. he weighs the outcomes of this in his mind. he could push you off and fix you a blanket and a safe space, give you some tools to help yourself and then plug his ears and pretend he doesn't want to do it himself. he imagines the buzzing sound, the way you'd whimper from the other room over, still unfulfilled despite the aid. he thinks about your fingers between your legs, unsatisfying and only serving to worsen the itch. it makes him strangely jealous, nauseous almost, that you should be so uncomfortable in his presence.
you exhales against him and it's a near defeated sound. nanami's fingers buzz with adrenaline, his cock swelling and throbbing every time you so much as shift over him. there's a lack of control in this situation and his fingers move to comfort you almost against his will.
something natural and easy takes over as he slides a big hand down to the front of you and cups your cunt. it feels almost like an out of body experience, but both yours and nanami's humanity drips away slowly to make room for these primal actions. you shudder and nanami's chest swells with relief as he sees your expression. there's a need within him to care for you. it's protective, the same way he'd feel if you were in physical danger.
nanami moves his four fingers over you slowly, his breathing hitching as you push your body against him. he can feel your dampness soaking through your thin shorts and it isn't long before your relief gives way to more need.
"just this once, nanami," you breath against his neck. "please."
nanami's head is filled with something syrupy. probably you. it's probably a chemical reaction caused by you and he knows that any pheromones you're releasing are probably being released in equal amounts by him. they take up space in the room, crowding him so that all he can focus on is you, is the need between your legs that calls to him like song.
"okay," he gives in, pulling your panties to the side and dipping his fingers into you.
you shudder and let out a short cry, thighs trembling. he knows he won't be able to satisfy you like this, but he wants to try. nanami knows though that there is no such thing as nipping it in the bud with these sorts of things and as he begins to move his fingers inside of you with a beckoning motion, he feels himself slip farther away.
you're so wet, dripping down his fingers. your pussy clenches around them, begging for a knot, sucking the two digits up into you and then threatening to push them out. nanami has been with omegas before, but he's never felt himself slip away like this. his humanity leaves him in favor of something animal.
nanami shushes you quietly as he pulls his fingers from your body. you whine and squirm against him, pressing down and grinding against the bulge in his pants. he sucks in a sharp breath and quickly discard your bottoms, leaving you bare and exposed in his lap.
your cunt is sticky and shining, glistening with your wetness. he can smell it, the way you're probably fertile, and the perverse thought crosses his mind that maybe you deliberately avoided your suppressants so that he could do this to you. how out of character for him to think that.
for someone so proper, he makes quick work of pressing the head of his cock against your entrance. you push your body forward to try to take him in and nanami very quickly slides into you. you're tight and with the way your cunt makes him feel, he knows that the stretch must hurt you, but he can't seem to stop. he's so focused on quelling the ache within you, buried deep in that spot where his knot will inevitably catch.
you are barely capable of forming words now, dumb and deaf with your heat. any words of comfort nanami offers to you seem to go in one ear and out the other, but he offers them anyway. they're automatic and they come without his even needing to think about them. things about taking care of you, about knotting you the way you're begging him to, about making sure you're never alone when you have to do this. if he were in a better state of mind, he'd be mortified.
instead, he fucks his hips up into you, holding you by the waist against his throbbing cock. then, when that isn't enough, he lays you on your back on the couch and presses your knees to your chest so that he can go deeper. he needs to get deep enough to where his knot will catch, to be able to stay there to ensure it catches properly. he feels the way air leaves you with every fuck of his hips.
you raise your hand to touch his face, eyes glassed over and watering as gentle tears slip down your cheeks. a silent encouragement that pulls him from his thoughts back to you. nanami turns his head instinctively and kisses the palm of your hand. then, he takes your thumb into his mouth and bites down on the fleshly part at the base of it. he could draw blood if he wanted, but he doesn't. instead he takes your hand as it falls from his lips and kisses you plainly again on the palm before pinning it above your head.
"i'll take care of you," he grunts out and you nod deliriously.
nanami makes quick work of knotting you. he bullies his cock as far in as it will go, swelling and swelling until he sticks. you squirm as he does, gasps growing higher in pitch until you're silenced by the pressure deep in your abdomen. you cum around him, he thinks, pussy fluttering as it throbs around his knot. then, you exhale as the heat recedes into the background with this momentary relief.
nanami winces as he holds himself up over you, slowly returning to his head as the swell of pheromones recedes and leaves only the feeling of the space he takes up in your cunt.
you search his face for something, benevolence maybe, and nanami places a wide palm to your cheek.
"i'm sorry," he breathes as words find him again. "i didn't intend to-"
you shake your head, returning to yourself as well. "don't be, i wanted to."
nanami isn't really sure what to say and you wince under him as he settles his weight a little further, throbbing lightly at the mention.
"hold me," you ask and nanami obliges. he settles fully over you before lifting you so that you're straddling his lap again. you wince and nanami soothes you by gently stroking your face. it's automatic again, the urge to comfort you is well beyond his control.
something in you triggers something in him and it is two full days before either of you are lucid and well enough to separate. satoru calls him multiple times, but nanami ignores him, too preoccupied with his unexpected rut and keeping you comfortable. at present, he's well past the initial guilt and frankly, entirely hellbent on deciding that you should stay. so much for his practicality, nature won out in the end.
nanami doesn't really think he'll ever hear the end of this, especially not from satoru who, when he inevitably gets a hold of them, will tease so relentlessly that it might shock nanami and you back into your senses. he decides to hide out here with you for a little longer, filling the room with the scent of you both until it crowds out everything else. he likes the way you feel nestled up beside him, messy and breathing deeply as you sleep.

It's so funny to me, that KDJ's library had that book about mysteries of sex. I know that it's supposed to be implying sexuality as opposed to sex. But the amount of ppl who keep saying that KDJ is straight. Like sure SnS said that they hadn't intended to write JDJ as though they seem extremely gay or bi. But they're also the ones who said that readers can have their own interpretation. Selective memory at its finest. I just wanted to ask whether there were any changes in the ebook regarding it.
yes im very happy that the mystery around that book was cleared lol. personally i really cant look at kdj at any point during his life and think "ah yes hes definitely gotten laid" cuz he doesnt give off the vibes. the man is vibeless (affectionate)
as for singshong, i do believe theyre trying to please both sides in some way... .. saying that kdj and yjh arent sexual minorities while also saying that whatever interpretation each individual reader has is correct are two statements that can coexist somehow. my guess is that's because orv is structured as a novel with multiple possible endings.

Farscape rewatch 2x04: Crackers Don’t Matter
One of my favorite eps and the most quoted one in the Mousie household.
Tumblr media
You know what I am struck by, this time? How crazily Farscape works. I am faced with the next to last scenes of this ep: John with green face-make-up, shiny cover, attacking a bug-looking alien with a sword as it gibbers, screaming 'humans are superior' and marvelling at the fact that somehow, it all works. How crazy is it? It works, works brilliantly. Farscape took some odd risks, some strange choices, but IMO, they almost always worked out.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And the way the humor (and this episode is bona fide hilarious) can coexist with cruelty and darkness because the ways the Moyans turn on each other is just vicious and what makes it horrible is that it’s their darkest ids, worst selves exposed - so it is them, even if the worst version of them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And they have to live with it, with all the stuff they said and did, no easy solutions...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is long and cap-heavy so behind read more...
I am also struck by how tight the writing is. It's obviously an organic show: it didn't have every plot detail worked out years in advance. But when things come up, they get so incorporated for later, they get brought up again, it all just fits. Just think of the little throw-away comment by Maldis in S1 that John lost his virginity to Karen Shaw, and how it comes to play in Kansas in S4. Why am I thinking of this for this ep? It's the fact that here is Harvey (his very first appearance), telling John that revenge is a dish best served cold, his whole attitude, his whole statement is so in line with the whole late S3 ep 'Revenging Angel' which echoes it so well. In RA Harvey fails to understand what makes John tick, what makes him stay alive: he is limited by his creator Scorpius. He fails to realize that what keeps John alive is hope and that for John, Aeryn is hope. (That is why chip!John in Scorpy's head in Incubator is so intractable, so final: he is post-loss-of-Aeryn, he really has nothing). What Scorpy fails in (and by extension Harvey) is to understand John on a very basic level: they don't really fit, like two odd pieces of a puzzle. Grayza of course makes the same mistake on Arnessk. It's going to sound corny, but Scorpy fails to understand goodness (not surprising considering his upbringing) while John has one-up on his opponent because he understands evil, because his face has been rubbed into it until it's raw.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I kept thinking, why is John the least affected by Traltixx in this ep? I am sure the eyesight has something to do with it (I love how Farscape turns on its head the old trope of humans being saviors because they are better. Crichton is 'better' because he is handicapped, because he doesn't see so well). But I think there are other issues here: for one thing, Crichton is a researcher, someone who must be analytical by nature. More importantly, he is attuned to oddness not just because of his post-Scorpy paranoia but because he is a stranger in a strange land, sensitized. And the thing is, just as with the chip later - knowing something is off is different from being able to put breaks on it. He periodically, alone among the rest of them, realizes something is wrong with his behavior but he is unable to truly stop it - the ugliness and the violence just come pouring out; the only concession to control is that he doesn’t kill anyone. The crew is horrifically ugly to each other in this one, but the ep is also mind-blowingly hilarious. Not like Out of their Minds, which is just plain funny. This one is funny with a hell of a sting. Some pretty bad things are said. I am struck not even as much by the Aeryn-John showdown (they know each other the best, so they really know where to hurt. Though I am still wondering how you can be both frigid and a skank :)) but I think it's because Aeryn and John cause each other such universes of pain, exactly when they are not trying to, but only trying to protect themselves or even do what is best for the other, that this is small fry. What is a little exchange of gunfire and a hit at Aeryn's being a traitor or John not measuring up to his father in comparison with Die Me Dichotomy or the coin toss or so much of late S3 or S4? Still, ouch ouch ouch.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
What I am really struck by are other interactions: D'Argo with Rygel, flopping the little guy around like...well, a puppet, force-feeding him crackers. It's ugly. We haven't seen D'Argo attack a helpless being since DNA Mad Scientist, and we've forgotten, and it hurts. Though it does show a difference: here it's Traltixx doing an equivalent of drugging him. The inner savage is much further from the surface. The crew from early S1 would have succumbed to Traltixx in ten minutes flat.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And keeping with the fact that actions always have consequences, there is no magic forgiveness at the end (though also like Farscape, there is hope of one later.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And Crichton with Chiana. It's an unnerving scene, horrible to watch, precisely because normally John is so protective of her, because for Chiana, John is in many ways her safe harbor, her surrogate big brother, someone who she would always feel safe in the area of sex with (i.e. he won't, with her). But he turns that protection on its head, something ugly (though luckily, a bunch of the horrible stuff comes from Harvey, not John, so she doesn't hear it).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
 Yikes.
Tumblr media
Pretty telling tho that even messed with by Traltixx, any sexual threat is not from John but is suggestion of the chip, which is doing whatever to get Crichton to kill his shipmates so he’d be easier to capture. John himself is horrifyingly cruel but does not see Chiana this way at all.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The idea he ends up liking is tying her up next to the rest of them so he could try to talk without everyone shooting each other, not anything else and thank GOD.
Tumblr media
This is such a reversal of his attitude in Taking the Stone so I think it's interesting that the attitudes in here and TtS are juxtaposed (in TtS Crichton is losing it a bit, slowly, but it makes him more protective, not less. That is the natural 'insane' Crichton, not the one where someone took over and brought out the darkest id; when he is himself, however utterly mad and irrational, he is never wantonly cruel to his loved ones.) And then of course, later, when he is back to sanity and tries to apologize, she blows it off, acts impressed. Chiana is queen of repression in some ways, however open she is in others.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
You know, there is another reason why Crichton was the one to pull it together. (And no, I am not just referring to stubborness). He already has that edge of insanity to him and it's growing slowly larger. So has he figured out how to cope under weirdness while maintaining some control? He's had to persevere through some horrid stuff and had his head messed up with, so he can temporarily put aside distractions. But the thing is - this is only the start of Scorpius messing with his head. He can fight it on the margins for now (Harvey the Chip clearly wants him to kill everyone so he can be captured easier) but he can fight it even under the stress but we all know how it ends...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Oh yes!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He tries to tell Aeryn about seeing Scorpius but she’s also affected by the light and pays no attention and even John himself assumes it was some of the stuff Traltixx did (and I believe when they first had Scorpy show it was supposed to be a one off, not a chip) and oh boy, the misery that is going to eventually follow.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(the little correction she makes, heeeee...)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Oh boy, and eventually he will make you do that and this will be one of the worst moments of your life.
Tumblr media
The thing is - having your mind hijacked is horrible but long before that happens to any significant degree, the layers of horror of it all are there because it’s not just John thinking he’s losing his mind and having his mind sorted through and controlled; it’s the fact that he now lives with the constant presence of his chief torturer in his head - it’s a somewhat literal metaphor for aftereffects of torture yes but also there is the sheer body horror of it which is incredible.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yikes...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Side note - the ugliness with John and D’Argo bothers me least because they are evenly matched but also it’s pure physical violence, no emotional cruelty involved.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also, cool bit of foreshadowing, Chiana aligning with D'Argo here but also, the way Aeryn and John still want to jump each other in this little scene tho they were shooting at each other and have not too much rationality. Heh.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
God, those two must have some truly spectacular sex once they finally get to it.
Oh, and the sheer unhinged anything goes vibe of this is so perfect. I don’t know how they manage.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And of course Zhaan just spending the whole episode orgasming and show making no bones about it - I love how just genuinely out there the show was.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Just wild...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Crichton barreling through insanity to save the day but everyone emerging a little or a lot worse for wear is a lot of the modus operandi of this show and this episode really distills it down so concisely in the most gloriously insane way.

The aromantic Levy headcannons anon here!
Levy is in a qpr with Jet & Droy. Gajeel ofc becomes a part of it once he joins Fairy Tail. So does Lily
She did feel like she was a bit of an outcast since the girl's and some guys would talk about romance and she didn't understand it. Same as Lucy, Levy enjoyed reading about it, but the love parts just to her, weird and confusing
Jet & Droy helped her figure herself out and finding out she was aromantic made her smile.
Levy had to contain her excitement when Lucy approached her, talking the way she used to about romance. She was happy that she wasn't the only aro girl in the guild.
Gajeel surprisingly was the easiest to tell that she was aromantic. "...I'm aromantic" "Cool" "Wow. That was easy" Natsu on the other hand, was the hardest. He just stood there with a confused look on his face so she had to explain it in a different way. "I prefer friendship over romance, Natsu" "So calling you my best friend is okay?" " Yes you dummy"
it's not a lot but I hope you like them
sending hugs and a nice warm bowl of soup your way, anon; I love these mwah <2
writing this post just in time for aromantic spectrum awareness week!!
aromantic fairy tail headcanons
♡ yes to everything above. levy adores jet and droy, then gajeel and lily. she gets such a sense of fulfillment and joy when she's with them.
♡ levy wears green on valentine's day. yes, it's a statement, and she'll patiently spend the day explaining aromanticism to anyone who asks. she also binges on discount chocolates with lucy that night as they watch shitty romcom movies. the two can and do coexist.
♡ another qpr/qpp pairing is juvia and lisanna. they're not only close emotionally; lisanna is by nature a physically affectionate person, and juvia is severely touch starved. the only person she could theoretically be comfortable with touching her is gajeel, but he's not one for soft affection (she's been thrown into too many brotherly headlocks over the years.) so when lisanna casually grabs onto juvia's arm when they're out and about, a switch flips in her head. juvia is very touchy with lisanna, and only lisanna. this leads to most of the guild thinking they're dating.
♡ the words "we're just friends" leave a bad taste in lisanna's mouth. juvia wrinkles her nose when she hears people say "oh, so you're not more than friends." both consider each other one of the most important people in their lives. them being friends doesn't somehow diminish that. juvia lets the worry slip when she's shopping with lucy, who brings her to levy. the three have a long and thoughtful discussion, but honestly, it leaves juvia feeling confused. she's never been one for close relationships with anyone, given her childhood, and all these labels make her head hurt. levy and lucy say that's fine, the only person she really needs to make sure is on the same page is lisanna.
♡ lisanna is very much on the same page of "idk what we are but I like where we are." they decide to just... keep doing what they're doing. when there's new developments (juvia gets a nosebleed when she sees lisanna in a swimsuit, to her own horror), they talk it out and set boundaries for what they want and don't want to do (juvia very, very shyly asks if she could give lisanna a kiss on the cheek.)
♡ also, at some point, juvia and lisanna move out of fairy hills and get an apartment together. mira objects to this only on the grounds that she won't be able to prevent them from starting kitchen fires with their baking attempts. she ends up over more often than not, and lisanna feels her chest swell with warmth at seeing her big sister and her best friend get along so well.
♡ also big aro vibes... gray, cana, and loke. the three of them are so chill about everything. the guild suspects they're in a relationship, but then they also see cana going out with lucy and get confused. gray just shrugs and says it's a girls' night. completely unbothered king. besides, he's got a board game score to settle with loke and natsu.
♡ erza, I think, is a big romantic at heart, but the thing is she does that to everyone. she gets a lot of money from s-class jobs, and there's only so much she can spend on herself or new sets of armor. eventually, team natsu starts finding beautiful bouquets of flowers on their doorsteps. someone dares to tell erza that men don't like flowers, and suddenly every man in fairy tail is getting a monthly bouquet of roses.
♡ erza also misses a lot of "romantic" cues. she wouldn't be able to tell if someone was flirting with her if her life depended on it. gray and natsu, the little shits, take full advantage of this to mess with the poor suitor. I also think erza is demi, so she really has to have a strong emotional bond with someone before she considers having sex with them. she likes to take care and be taken care of, so she wants it to be with someone who knows her inside and out.
♡ natsu honestly has huge aspec vibes, mostly because he completely bulldozes over any societal conventions, labels, and definitions. if natsu feels a certain way, he's going to let the person know. if he wants to be cuddly with them and they're okay with it, he will be cuddly. doesn't matter who they are; even laxus gets the occasional natsu cuddle. levy and lucy almost lose their minds because they're so busy having deep discussions about the intricacies of aromanticism, and then natsu comes in like a breath of fresh air because he genuinely does not care. not in a bad way, he loves to listen to lucy's passionate rants (she's cute when she's excited) but. it's just something that never bothered him. personally, I do think out of everyone, he's closest to lucy in the "romantic" sense, but even then, it's just a different type of relationship to him. there's no way in hell he would specifically choose just lucy over everyone else in the guild. they're all his family!
♡ in conclusion, fairy tail is aromantic and aspec as fuck.

So I did write today. And you could get context but that would require effort on my part.
So lets just say the Isle kids decided to recreate Chaos Games in Auradon and roped good few hero kids to join. (Part one’s out there somewhere and yes I plan on finishing this damn thing.)
Audrey has yet to set out, but she has much shorter walk, nevermind the advantage of home territory.
Though she also has two very impatient Li siblings with a phone on the speaker, yelling into it in Chinese and communicating last-minute details with their parents – they agreed to lend them an unit of the Great Chinese Army, for a practical exercise.
Yes, that’s how they’re calling it.
Anything but „Crazy Death-Magic Game,“ which was Audrey’s preferred title. Or „Chaos Games,“ as they’ve apparently been dubbed by the Isle kids a long time ago.
She supposes she should call Arabella, see if the Atlantica princess is still on, too; she takes out her phone.
„What, princess, getting cold feet?“ asks Anthony Tremaine lazily from where he’s sprawled on the sofa, Ginny Gothel more or less laying in his lap. „You really should.“
„Don’t talk nonsense,“ she scoffs at him, „And if you’re only here to kick my morale under, doors are over there.“ She flicks her hand in the correct direction, ready to finally call Arabella.
„Why, sweetheart, me? Undermining your morale? I’d never!“
Ginny laughs, which has absolutely nothing to do with his statement, Audrey is sure. She glares at both of them, to absolutely no effect. One of the more unfortunate side effects of Isle upbringing, or maybe just coexisting with their unspoken girlfriend.
„You absolutely would, Tremaine,“ she answers, „And for no reason whatsoever, I’m sure. And why are you here, anyway?“
Anthony runs his hand across Ginny’s scalp – Ginny has stopped paying attention to the conversation again – and says: „You wound me, Audrey Rose, you wound me. I’m here as your advisor, and you’re so gonna need one if you want to stand a chance at this thing.“
„I do not!“ Well, now Audrey is offended.
Li siblings have hung up the phone and are now speaking to each other, still agitated. Very unconcerning thing, just as the next sentence from Anthony’s mouth.
„Oh believe me, you do. Harriet could probably take you all herself, if she wanted.“
Audrey freezes for a bit; she so didn’t sign up for this, thank you for asking. Finally, she shakes off her shock: „…Yeah,“ she says as she gestures at his expression with her pointer finger, drawing a circle in the air, „You really have to take off the heart eyes when you say stuff like that. Both of you,“ she adds with a quick glance at Ginny.
Ignoring their wide smiles, she turns around and dials Arabella. The phone rings for about a minute before announcing that the called is unreachable. What a bitch. Audrey glares at her phone for the offense and then turns around again.
„And what are you doing there, Gothel?“ she asks for lack of better things to do.
„Hmm?“
„I said, why are you here?“
„Oh,“ dismisses Ginny, „I’m a neutral party. I can do what I wanna.“ Anthony bends down to kiss her temple. Probably just because he can – Audrey looks away quickly.
„And why are you here?“ she questions again.
„I’m a medic. You’re gonna need me, sooner or later,“ Ginny says easily, as if that explained anything; she props herself up to kiss Anthony properly.
And why, yes, Audrey is starting to regret this whole thing greatly.
She shakes her head at the couple and joins Lonnie and Junior instead: They’ve got a war to plan. And maybe Arabella will finally call her back.

I think the ship discourse in Yellowjackets fandom would probably go calmer if more ppl realized that "you can ship whatever you want to ship" and "sometimes preferences/headcanons reflect prejudiced stereotypes that exist in real life" are two statements that can coexist.
While it's true that ppl can ship whatever they want and ship wars are pointless, we can't also dismiss all forms of critics about headcanons and preferences as simply "hate" or "envy" or "jealousy" and shut out important conversations bc they're not convenient to us.
Like, the issue w/ Taivan and Jackieshauna: the discussion about racial bias and anti-gender nonconforming bias in progressive spaces like sapphic fandoms is important, and some ppl misusing some concepts or losing their temper doesn't invalidate that.
Same w/ Lottienat: even if arguments like "they have more fics" are shallow, it doesn't erase the fact that some tropes, like "Lottie fixes Nat", reduce Lottie, a rare representation for Indigenous/Maori ppl and ppl w/ schizophrenia, to the role of fixing a white woman, reduce Nat to her addiction and reproduce harmful stereotypes about "bad girls", reinforce misconceptions about addiction (like it's something we can switch off just bc someone loves us), reinforce the same traditional gender roles that the show tries to deconstruct etc.
Fandoms are about fun, but also about community, and only by understanding that both "ship whatever you want" and "sometimes preferences/headcanons carry prejudices", we can make sure that everyone feels included and can be part of the fun.
PS.: I'm gonna tag the 'anti' tags so ppl who don't wanna see it can skip the discourse when they scroll (I actually ship Jackieshauna romantically tbh)

Okay, so I’ve been thinking about the ways in which Aziraphale and Crowley reflect/contrast each other, especially in terms of their outward presentation.
Crowley’s look, Crowley’s style, is constantly shifting with the times. He’s always fashionable, he’s always of the moment, and he’s always changing.
Aziraphale is seemingly the opposite. He has worn like a total of 3 different outfits since the 1790s. He likes the way things are and he does not like change.
Because of this, it’s easy to assume that Crowley is mercurial while Aziraphale is the rock of the dynamic, but I think it’s the other way around.
Crowley has known from very early on that he is a “demon who follows hell as far as he can”, and made peace with that. For appearances, doing outward good is something he tries to avoid, but for him hell has always been a job, and not an alignment. So while outwardly it would appear that Crowley’s appearance changes constantly because of internal instability, the fact that he is able to change so often and with such little indecision is moreso indicative of his strong sense of self.
Aziraphale on the other hand, is presented as someone who experiences a lot of inner conflict. While heaven is undoubtedly a job to Aziraphale too(with the Arrangement showing that much of the work he does for heaven is just that, work), it is also an alignment to him. He has a very clear cognitive dissonance where he does genuinely believe that heaven is the side of the good guys, while witnessing firsthand the corruption it’s capable of. He has his own developed sense of morality, one that accommodates shades of grey and the complexities of existence, but he also has heaven’s sense of morality, which is, as Crowley points out, very black and white. He often charges into situations fully confident that there is an objective Right answer, and that Right answer is the one that aligns most closely with heaven’s mission statement. He spends much of his time justifying and believing in heaven while directly counteracting its goals with his actions. He becomes visibly troubled whenever he is forced to acknowledge the fact that goodness as he knows it contradicts goodness as heaven defines it, so he spends as little time acknowledging it as possible. As he spends more time on Earth and more time with Crowley, he finds himself increasingly pulled between two deeply significant core characteristics, his loyalty to heaven and his own sense of right and wrong. He doesn’t know where he stands. He hasn’t known where he’s stood since he gave Adam a flaming sword at the gate of Eden. So, to combat how confusing and tumultuous and distressing his thoughts are, he entrenches himself in familiar behaviors and routines, convincing himself that if everything stays the same, then he’ll never have to pick a side, fully abandoning either the comfort he has carved out on earth, or the simple, severe, orderly views on right and wrong heaven has instilled in him. Through all of the many layers of denial, Aziraphale is deeply aware that his two belief systems cannot coexist, and that at some point, one will win out over the other. But for now, for the past 6000 odd years, it has been enough to follow orders, love humanity and the world quietly enough as to not draw heavenly scrutiny, and wear the same outfits, drink the same tea, putter around the same bookshop with the same old friend who works for hell. Maybe if he continues with these rituals forever, then he can will things not to change. Aziraphale is terrified of change within himself, so he makes sure to minimize the change around him, because that is something he can control.
Whether intentionally or not, Crowley often forces Aziraphale to take responsibility for his decisions. For Aziraphale, living like Crowley means accepting that he is no longer strictly operating by heaven’s rule book, and that is not always a truth Aziraphale is prepared to handle, hence “you go too fast for me Crowley”.
TL;DR: Crowley = fast moving, outwardly changing, but inwardly steady. Aziraphale = attached to habit, outwardly predictable, but inwardly unsteady.

mavis doesn't realize that if she ever finds a conservative man he will want her to:
Be subservenient to him
Perform traditional femininity
Only have piv vanilla missionary sex on a sunday night between the sheets, he's sure as hell not gonna eat shit with her
He will expect her to bear his children, all the things she says she doesn't want
Im starting to think she doesn't even know what the fuck it means to be a conservative, she just doesn't want to be associated with liberals (also newsflash girlie, you can't be a punk and a conservative at the same time, those are two completely opposing ideologies in every single way)
OATH.
And she doesn't, no.
I will argue that you can be conservative and punk, but it really depends on your definition of conservative. If you're POLITICALLY conservative and call yourself punk, you are a fucken poser. End of. If you're CULTURALLY conservative, I think it's still possible to be punk. For example I consider myself culturally conservative, and... kinda-sort punk. I think tradition is important. And I think it's cool and good to see people break some aspects of tradition while still keeping in line with other aspects of tradition. Like a punk butch going by he/him and being what society would consider traditionally masculine. He knows the rules of tradition specifically to break them, while keeping in line with others. Or drag queens embracing aspects of traditional feminity. Genderpunk. It's cool.
And you can have someone like me, culturally conservative who believes tradition is good, but is also more than willing to fight the status quo when I feel it does harm to the individual or to freedom of expression. For example, "nuclear families are good" and "LGBTQ+ should be allowed to marry and have children with whoever they damn well please" are two statements that can and should coexist.
I believe in firearms rights. I think they're important to the safety of the individual and the family of the individual. I believe in property rights. These are things that would be considered conservative.
I also believe that people should have a right to become the person they see themselves to be. I believe the government has no right to infringe on anyone's pursuit of happiness so long as it affects only themselves. If no one's rights are being impeded on, then it's none of the government's fucking business.
I want us faggots and queers to be able to protect our cannabis grow houses and our trans children with legal firearms, is what I'm saying. I would consider myself a cultural conservative who is, in some aspects, punk.
And my jacket is cooler than Mavis'. Unlike her I earnt my colours.

The fascinating thing about I'll Be Seeing You (1944) is that it is just so... paradoxical? Is that the word?
The plot itself is melodrama. The movie chooses to play it as naturalistic as it can be.
A lot of the plot hinges in classic tropes of mutual lies and misunderstanding. But Zack comes clean to Mary when he lies or acts erratically, the exact next time he sees her (and she trusts him). When he learns from Barbara that Mary lied about being a traveling sales-lady and that she was, in fact, in prison, he gets mad, but then he just... gets on the train. Thinks about it. Comes to the conclusion that Barbara is right about Mary not being a bad person. Comes to the conclusion that Mary didn't tell him the truth because he had made it look like so much of his recovery depended on her, and then just... goes to meet her at the entrance of the prison. No melodramatic dragged consequences. Just wounded people giving each other grace and forgiveness.
The movie deals with heavy subject matter (PTSD, sexual assault, and the justice system) but manages to do it deftly. It doesn't linger morbidly on the traumatic experiences of the characters, but doesn't trivialize them either. It avoids making sweep grand statements about any of those issues, and focuses instead on the concrete experiences of the characters it is showing us.
Sure probably a SA victim IRL wouldn't be as trusting as Mary is in the movie... it is also true that she was assaulted by her boss, a person she knew and trusted, so perhaps Zack's own strangeness felt safer to her. Sure the movie skirts the trope of "love cures mental illness", but it shows that recovery is non-linear, that the clinical treatment of Zack's PTSD helped and gave him tools to manage his condition, and that as important as his connection with Mary is (in part because it gives him a project for the future that he can work towards achieving), the fact that her family received him so well and made him feel at home was ALSO important to the progress he makes in those 8 days.
It's also interesting how the movie deals with patriotic sentiment. There's rationing going on. Mary feels bad about how her imprisonment prevents her from collaborating with the war effort. This coexists with a couple sailors being idiots, the reality of war being very small and different for the common soldier than what it appears in reels, and politicians thinking of soldiers as a mass instead of individuals with a wide range of opinions. Zack can be a war hero AND a traumatized soldier at the same time. And that's so nuanced for a wartime movie that can only address the topic as a secondary matter?
Somehow this movie about two people meeting on a train and falling head over heels in love in 8 days while making a bunch of mistakes... lands? Partly because of the great actors it has as leads, but also partly because the choice of having the couple be two people that are, for different reasons, alienated from both civilian and military life, and so they are unconsciously drawn towards each other, makes a lot of sense?
IDK. Fascinating to me.

eveline being a child who was never taught morals and ethan being shoved into a corner and forced to neutralize her are two statements that can and do coexist i dont know why theres this huge debate and drama going on rn. eveline isnt evil, shes 7 years old and was abused and neglected and turned into a bioweapon. she didnt do anything she did because she Wanted to, she did it because it was all she knew. she is an antagonist but she is not a villain.
However. ethan didn’t have any choice but to kill her because a) he came in way too late in the game to undo any of the damage done to her and b) he was acting mostly out of self defense. i think the problem with this argument is that the people coming to ethans defense are condemning evie to a life she never chose or asked for. she wanted love and family and she was denied that at every turn. i don’t think there’s anything ethan could have done for her, and, like—capcom wants you to hate her because they fucking suck. they didn’t write her with the intention of her being viewed as anything but an evil person which sucks because, you know, she’s fucking seven and acts like a seven year old. she’s a kid. idk man maybe instead of putting evie down you guys should inspect mia and how she fucking sucks instead. not that anyone wants to do that bc shes touted as a “”girlboss”” for being a shitty person who is actively and knowingly part of a bioterrorist organization, abuses and neglects a child, and lies to her husband ad nauseam. fuck off
the issue isn’t black and white. ethan can’t be entirely to blame for eveline’s death because his hands are tied the moment he steps foot through the door of the baker’s home. eveline only acts as she’s been taught to act. she performs the function she was ‘created’ to perform. she’s an angry seven year old. she’s a child. you can’t blame her for something out of her fucking control.
also no one called ethan a child abuser y’all are just making shit up for drama. he isn’t a child abuser but mia sure as shit is. the morals of what he had to do with evie are questionable, but at the end of the day i honestly think it comes down to capcom not giving a shit about the nuances of making their antagonist a child outside of a singular scene with jack baker. they want you to hate her. i honestly think it reflects more on capcom as a company than on ethan as a person/character just because…that’s the game mechanic. that’s how resident evil games go

since you and others in your inbox have been apparently tearing the article a new one I would love to hear how the predatory contracts, NDAs, and gag orders on RQ employees are not that big a deal? Obviously the lack of communication can easily be chalked to new managers not knowing wtf they were doing, but the contract snippets seemed genuinely concerning to me
thank you in advance if you do respond. i'm genuinely confused and as someone who doesn't work anywhere near this industry I don't know which claims to misbelieve. and I want to support good labor practices.
bruh you are asking me this like within 3 weeks of the cocreator of Dreamwidth ripping Cohost a new one because their Terms of Service was a fucking travesty
and in that case, the moral was not "the people who did this were completely evil and malicious"
it was "oh boy you sure grew fast and have no idea wtf you're doing"
which is the story of Rusty Quill imo. they exploded in popularity in the age of twitter, into a fucking global pandemic. this article at every fucking term tries to assign malice instead of just immaturity.
also the NDA shit is fucking normal. i've signed them before. that shit is standard in every industry.
two statements that coexist: "RQ sure fucked some people over with these contracts and better learn from their mistakes, they no longer have Early Company Growing Pains to as a reason" and "this literally happens to EVERY small creator who tries to rapidly expand and I am not remotely surprised"
same with the layoffs. paraphrasing a friend: "layoffs are bad and hurt people. that does not mean RQ is evil or wanted them to happen."
this fucking article has a SERIOUS case of wanting to have it both ways. it wants to talk about financials and how other shows were failing, but it also wants this fucking weird ideal of making art for free for the Sake Of Art, and like. i have no fucking patience for this shit.
it's a hit piece.

can I ask where you found this info on the badges vs icons thing? I’m not doubting you, I’m just planning on spreading it around to friends and would like to have a solid link to give. Thanks!
“We’re running a new experiment that changes the header on posts to reduce the redundancy of avatars in reblogs, save some vertical space by moving recommendation labels around, afford more room for badges, and more! On desktop web, it also removes the floating avatars and makes posts full width with the sidebars”
i’m sure they’d say they didn’t actually mean they were directly getting rid of those icons for badges and that “getting rid of icons” and “more room for badges” were just two coexisting statements, but either way they brought it up in relation to this miserable A/B test as a whole so that’s getting turned off.

I’ve been seeing a lot of old su clips on my fyp as well as one of those criticism videos on the movie.
And for a while I’ve been able to look at the show more objectively because time has passed since I’ve watched it. Not that I was like a huge fan to any degree, but still.
My general opinion these days is that “the executives actively made it harder on the crew and definitely were unfair and unreasonable in certain aspects” and “the crew actively fumbled the writing” can be two coexisting statements.
Honestly didn’t form that latter part until I was getting into TOH that I realized some crews can have strong writing still despite executive nonsense. Not to say there aren’t still flaws, but still. A couple of things were messy in SU, and unfortunately they all happened one after another and it was all important plot points that needed to be handled well. And that’s why a lot of us were unsastified with Change Your Mind.
(SU was the last long form tv show I remember. It have five seasons. I can’t help but wonder if such a poor reaction to CYM scared off producers from having any more longer form stuff. Which sucks cuz it was at least in part set up to fail. They shot themselves in the foot.)
The other two coexisting opinions I have of the show was “it wasn’t complete garbage like some people suggest but it’s also not amazing. It’s just kinda. A Show” and “SU is vitally important in terms of what had to be done in order to pave the way for future representation in shows. Bordering on/is historical significant in that way.” I genuinely believe we couldnt have shows like She Ra and TOH without the work Sugar and the crew put in to push back against executives.
(We claim great fame and importance to most if not all Shakesphere’s works. But I can’t help but think at least some people of the time just thought of it as a play. Not a good or bad one, but just a play. Because they didn’t realize the historical significance of it yet. Because there’s this idea that historical significance must be only done by outstanding and shining works. A classroom full of high schoolers reading Shakespeare or Edgar Allen Poe sure would disagree.)
It seems like whenever I look at media I want more out of/see great potential in I just deeply y e a r n for better Creative Commons legislation. I want other people to take a crack at this, see what they could do. I want people to try again and again and again on media, rewriting and reworking and see what we could get from it.
One show could be a seed that blooms a beautiful field of new media, we know this because we see how actively imaginative fandoms are. I just wish there was a way to encourage that into the mainstream a lil more.
