#like seb was aaron's kid too!!!!!!

I'm wondering if this could instead be a build-up to a Seb return, not necessarily Robert. Because we've also had multiple scenes of him doting on Eve, plus Danny is a father now and the producers are just not that creative. And for a 32 yr old soap character, I feel like kids is the obvious narrative direction. Perhaps the Rob reminders are to reinforce Aaron's character motive if he takes Seb in. Obviously, it could be a return for both, but I feel like Rober is not the only possibility.
I mean a Seb return would be better than nothing and certainly something I've advocated for in the past for him. And I've definitely noticed some of the kid focus with him since he's been back.
But there have just been too many Robert mentions now plus the "next chapter" meet up and the "I'll just have to talk him round" comment that it feels like it has to be Robert first and then Seb. I mean we'll see where it continues to go but I feel like if it were just a Seb thing, there would be more leading up to that than there has been. But who knows.
Regarding Robert though, I still feel like he's just going to show up. I keep seeing people theorize how people are going to reach out to Robert for Aaron etc and I just cannot fathom that happening. Or really any of this stuff currently going on leading up to a Robert return. I just feel like they're setting the stage for him to just appear one day and they'll handle the "hows" and the "whys" after.

I guess I'm waiting for pictures, which would probably do their thing and convince me for like 100% sure.
Same with you Maja. I need to see the pics and i need both of them to say it directly. I just need the full disclosure
Tumblr media
I feel you, guys! I think I also need to see pictures or have something more direct from either of them, so I can have an actual disclosure. Call me delusional, call me stupid, but as the second anon said, I also missed quite a few people, like Mackie, Seb, or her cousin, who was in Peru with her entire family. I guess we don't know if Scarlett was there or not, but I'd really be interested in that. Aaron too.
To me, the whole "they want to keep it private, people signed NDAs, and they couldn't have their phone with them" thing sounds weird too. You want to keep it secret, but people have been spilling "information" about this for months now. You want to keep it secret, but Hemsworth just told a random person (and he also needed to sign an NDA) that they were in Boston because of their wedding. You want to keep it secret, but the next day Page Six reports because of a "source". Why page six, not people?
And they didn't really share anything new or something we didn't know. They talked about his co-stars being there, which we all knew, and that they reportedly got married in Boston, which we all could've guessed. The only new info was the "NDA, no phone" thing, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was made up because the source didn't send a photo or page six simply didn't have one.
According to page six, they got married "in Massachusetts at their Boston-area home", while people said they got married in Cape Cod. I'd also like to mention that the People article kind of quotes the page six one, with some additions, but nothing specific about the wedding, like that John and Emily were there (according to them, they were spotted, but were they?) or Hemsworth's wife was also there, which we also don't have evidence of since we all saw him with his mom, which is weird because why would she join them in the first place? She doesn't know Chris, and I don't think she was invited to the wedding. It would've made a lot more sense if she was taking care of the kids while they were attending the Chrisba wedding.
So many questions, right?
However, if there will be pictures and an actual confirmation, then we don't really have anything to talk about regarding the wedding. Then it was real; it's been real since the beginning, but even if it was, this didn't seem like a healthy, loving relationship, and I don't think for a second it will last.

While the writers keep playing us, here are some future plots to consider after robert comes back (ryan HAS to comeback at this point ok? i wont accept anything else):
Post-prison Denial - Aaron cannot forgive Robert or accept that he is back; he shifts the blame for Liv's death from Chas to Robert because Robert LEFT THEM
Post-prison Blues - Robert deals with his PTSD badly which engages Aaron's redemption arc; he stays by Robert's side and helps him through it
Reunion 3.0 / Seb's return - Robert gets access to Seb (he comes to some sort of agreement with Rebecca or something happens to her offscreen whatever) and seeing Rob and Seb (their son!!) together in the village destroys any willpower Aaron still had to fight against his feelings for Robert
Wedding 3.0 - this needs no explanation
Surrogacy 2.0 - i dont actually mind them going there again if only to get them their Sugden-Dingle daughter
The Return of Andy Sugden - everything is going well for Robert and Aaron but Andy's return shakes things up; the farmboy that Jack Sugden caught Robert with back in the day is working with Andy now; so we get jealousy and misunderstandings and high drama in the Still-Madly-In-Love-Husband front (because that's Aaron innit) and Robert finally tells Vic and Andy about what happened with his dad when he was young.
Teen Seb Comes to Stay - Seb decides he wants to live with his dads at the village permanently (rewashed Liv plot i know but im making it easy for them!!) there are issues with his little sister at first but they get quickly resolved. Seb and his auntie Eve become thick as thieves and become the village nightmares
The Return of Adam Barton - because Aaron needs his mate back at some point and I doubt Vic will settle with anyone else ever
Robron vs Caleb - this just seems like it would be fun idk. it could have something to do with Seb because he is just like his dads and finds trouble everywhere which Robert and Aaron always have to solve in the end
Robert vs Kim&Andy - at this point in my AU Andy is with Kim (romantically or as business partners idc) because it serves the purpose of killing two birds with one stone so that Robert can finally FINALLY win back Home Farm
Robert Sugden's Regression - being in charge of Home Farm ofc changes Robert a bit and he starts to become the thing he fears most: his father. Cue him pushing his children and Aaron to the breaking point until, in true soap-fashion, they break up again. The kids split too. Aaron takes their daughter and Seb stays with Robert. And this ofc leads to:
The Parent Trap: Robron Edition - Seb and his sister plot to get their dads back together through a series of funny shenanigans, but then one of them gets seriously hurt in an accident (they should watch out for those evil farm animals amirite? or was it another drunk driver? only the soap gods know) so all the progress they made crumbles. Aaron and Robert blame each other and seem broken up for good
The Biggest Mugs In The World - Aaron and Robert try to prove to themselves and their kids that they dont want anything to do with each other but every time Aaron sends Robert his divorce papers Robert 'misplaces them' until Aaron finds out Robert has been ripping them apart and chucking them into his fancy fireplace. They fight about Robert being a control freak and Aaron a jealous queen, because every person Robert has flirted with since they separated has ended up fleeing the village with their tail tucked between their legs (Aaron made sure of it). This goes on until they have angry make up sex and then hate themselves for it.
Reunion 4.0 - *PROBLEMATIC PLOT ALERT* Seb and Eve become romantically involved and try to hide it from their families (aunt and nephew fits the Dingle lore somehow lmao). When they are found out Robert goes apeshit and casts Seb out of the village (like his dad did to him once) but he and Seb are at The Layby and before Robert can make the biggest mistake of his life, the love of his life arrives just in time to stop him. Robert realizes what he has become and decides to leave Emmerdale himself (after all, he was always the disaster, the one unable to make anybody happy, he should have never comeback etc) but Aaron won't have it. They can't live without each other, and that fact has never been clearer than at that very moment (shot to a teary-eyed Seb behind Aaron). Robert begs for forgiveness and Aaron just scoffs because forgiving Robert is the easiest thing in the world. They had promised each other messed up forever, had they not?
You know. I know.

The Ryan & Danny “Next Chapter”, the “Legendary Return” that was announced to be coming this month, then multiple Robert mentions (plus The Pause, we still don’t know what that was about!), Seb mention, and now the second mill flat set.. SURELY of all that is leading somewhere? I’m not even kidding like it’s TOO MUCH to mean nothing at this point!!
I know! The set especially has me 👀🤡. Those cost a lot of money and they're not going to spend a fortune on a set for ONE CHARACTER that they could easily 'move' to an existing set.
Aaron and Mack have been having scenes in the pub, the cafe, the village, the hide. Aaron has been having scenes with his family in the pub and the village and the hide. If they want him and chas to make up, they can just move him into the pub - or at least visit her in the pub... none of that needs a new set.
I mean Ryan, Gail, and Ethan all supposedly live together in Tall Trees but they NEVER show it. Ethan is either in the village or at his dad's, Ryan and Gail are always at the pub.
And lets not forget they just built a new set for the new doctors office in Bernice's old house. They're not going to build a set JUST for Aaron.
The Pause was definitely about Robert though. Aaron was drunk and lonely and the part of his brain not completely soaked in alcohol was like I NEED TO TELL VICTORIA SOMETHING! but then decided against it because Cain was there and he's a Tough Guy and missing his husband is bad for his Tough Guy rep.

Robron week day 1; "It's Easter, you're meant to live on sugar"
“Ow! You fucking – ”
Aaron walks through the front door to the sound of Robert loudly cursing and sees him sitting cross-legged on the floor in front of the sofa. He’s surrounded by a sea of ribbon and string and tissue paper of all different colours. There's so much chaos on the floor he can barely see the rug.
“What the hell are you doing?”
Robert winces and sucks the tip of one of his fingers in his mouth.
“Stabbed myself with the needle.”
Sure enough, he’s holding a needle and thread. Aaron lets out an amused, slightly baffled huff and sits opposite him on the rug.
“Gonna ask again, what’re you doing? Since when do you sew?”
“I’m not, really,” Robert says, finally removing the finger from between his lips. He carefully picks up a small straw hat that was resting on the floor next to him. “Just trying to make Seb’s Easter bonnet, ‘pparently he needs one for this party Charles is throwing the kids at the church tomorrow. Best bonnet wins an Easter egg.”
The hat is half-covered in blue ribbon, paper flowers and tissuey green tufts that Aaron’s guessing is supposed to represent grass.
“Because we don’t have enough Easter eggs in the house already. Which we have to keep replacing because someone kept eating them all the way through Lent.”
“Chocolate always tastes better when you win it, though – pass me that bit of pink tissue, will you?”
Aaron picks up a sheet of pastel pink tissue paper from the pile next to him and stretches his arm out, passing it to Robert. He watches in mild fascination as his husband immediately starts folding and twisting the paper into seemingly random shapes, smoothing and arranging it until it transforms into a small flower in his hands.
Satisfied, Robert grabs his needle again and starts attaching the flower to the straw hat, stitching it into place with the ones already on there.
“Where the hell did you learn to do that?”
“Youtube,” Robert says distractedly, tongue sticking out the corner of his mouth as he concentrates on the task at hand. “And I sort of remembered my mum doing it for mine when I was a kid.”
Aaron continues to watch him, distractedly wrapping a piece of ribbon around his fingers. “She made bonnets for you?”
“Oh yeah.” His mouth curls into a small smile as he grabs a handful of tiny yellow decorative chicks and starts slotting them in among the flowers. “She was good at homemade stuff – think she had to be, since Dad would never fork out for anything like that.”
Aaron smiles softly as he watches him, refraining from pointing out that they could – and did – usually fork out for whatever Seb needed. Though he’ll probably never admit it, Robert’s clearly content – in his element, even – doing things the old-school way.
“You know I'm gonna need to see photos of that.”
“No chance.”
“Fine, I'll just ask Vic.” He pushes himself up with a quiet groan. “You want a brew while you work on that?”
“Hm, please.”
“‘Kay, two ticks.”
“Oh,” Robert calls to Aaron’s retreating back. “Can I get a hot cross bun too, while you’re at it?”
“Sure.”
“Thanks. Or, actually, I wouldn’t mind a bit of that Cadbury’s egg that’s in the snack cupboard?”
“For god’s sake, we’re not gonna have any eggs left at this rate! How’re you not sick of them yet?”
Robert’s eyes turn wide and innocent, an expression that Seb had picked up by the time he was a toddler.
“But Aaron, it’s Easter, you’re meant to live – ”
“On sugar, I know,” Aaron sighs, fond despite himself.
“Exactly, Jesus said so.”
“He did not.”
“How d’you know? You’ve never cracked open a bible in your life.”
“Neither have you, you idiot!”
“No,” Robert shoots back, looking at Aaron like butter wouldn't melt in his mouth. “But Charles told me.”
“I don’t care if the Pope himself told you, I’m not buying any more Easter eggs and if we want to put together a half-decent egg hunt for Seb later then we’re not touching the ones we have. You’ll have a hot cross bun and you’ll like it.”
Robert sighs and huffily sticks another chick on the bonnet.
“Fine.”

Ring out the old, bring in the new
Day 30
This is a follow up to 'I'm dreaming of a white christmas' and it's fluffy to the point of soppy but I hope you like it.
The title and lyrics are from 'The Perfect Year' by Dina Carroll which I've always loved and they seemed to fit. So, enjoy
BTW tomorrow's fic will be posted a little later on account of it not being finished yet, but I'm definitely posting at least part of it before the end of the month!!
(AO3 link)
“You’re not serious.” Aaron says when Robert tells him his idea. It’s boxing day and he’s about to take the kids up to the farm so Cain and Moira can babysit and give them a few hours of peace, and Seb had been crazing them all day wanting to see Isaac and all his new toys. “You want to renew our vows on new years eve? As in five days from now.”
“Yeah. It’s tons of time to get everything sorted.” Aaron raised an eyebrow, looking at the state of the flat, still a mess from the chaos of the day before.
“Everything? We said something small, just our friends and family.”
“Well I thought we could combine it with a new year party, makes sense doesn’t it?”
“You can’t organise something like that in that short a time!” He looks up from where he’s wrestling Ana into her coat at Robert’s scoff. “What?”
“I organised our first wedding in under twenty four hours. I can do this. A new year, a new start?” Aaron knew that voice, he’d learnt not to argue with it so he just nodded, even though he didn’t think they needed a new start, they’d done alright the past few years. “Right, when you’ve dropped them off, come back and we’ll sort a guest list and that. I’ll call Mum, she can help.”
“Yes sir, no sir, three bags full sir.” Aaron mumbled as he herded the kids out of the door. Even after two weddings and nearly ten years he still forgot how Robert could be when he got an idea in his head.
Ring out the old Bring in the new A midnight wish to share with you
It’s two days before the vow renewal and he’s ready to tear his hair out. Robert’s promise of something small
“Robert, how many people have you invited.” He asks as his husband and his mother come in the door laden down with bags bulging with food.
“Just the essentials, your lot, Gran if she’s feeling up to it, Liam, Leyla, Priya and I think Mack and Charity…Billy and Ellis said they’d pop by. Um…”
“So basically everyone in the village except Mum and Paddy?”
“Er, yeah. Oh, Cain said he’d make sure Eve was here too, at least for part of it.” Aaron smiled at that, he’d wanted to ask his Mum about having her over but she barely spoke to him these days and he really couldn’t face another argument with her.
“Thank you.” He kisses him as he passes by. “The only thing left is to decide who is doing the ceremony then. Or do you just want to say the vows and stuff ourselves.”
“Um, I thought about asking Charles. If that’s alright with you.”
“Course it is. We can ask him tonight at the pub.”
“Daddy.” Seb pipes up. “If you’re getting married, you need a best man.”
“Oh we do, do we?” Robert crouches down to him. “And who told you that?”
“Ganma.” Robert looked over at his Mum who shrugs.
“Well Ganma should know that it’s a vow renewal not a wedding.” He wants to kick himself when his son’s face drops and Aaron swoops to the rescue as he tries to come up with the right words.
“Daddy’s right, but you know what? The best thing about a vow renewal is that unlike a wedding there’s no rules, so if we want to have a best man then we can.” He looks over at Robert, having one of their silent conversations before turning back to him. “In fact, I was going to ask you to be mine.”
“Really?” Aaron nods and Seb runs off cheering as he goes. “Ganma! Did you hear?”
“I heard peanut. You’ll be brilliant. What about you Robert?”
“Maybe Ana can be yours?” Aaron suggests, getting caught up in it all.
“But then Sara’s left out.” He looks at their youngest who is rolling about with her cuddly bunny, chattering away in her own little language.
“I thought she could walk in front of us with your Mum, with Eve, maybe with flowers or something, you know how she likes to make mess.”
“Getting well into this all of a sudden aren’t we?”
“Yeah well…they’ll enjoy it won’t they.” He shrugs. In truth it was the contented look on Robert’s face that he was enjoying.
“You’d better stay with me, Robert.” Sarah pipes up. “The night before.”
“Er, why?”
“Because it’s bad luck not to.”
“We didn’t bother with that before.” He tells her and she and Aaron share a look.
“Your Mum’s right…look what happened before…best not chance it a third time.” He’s smiling so Robert knows he’s kidding.
“But…No, this is wrong, you’re ganging up on me!”
“You’re the one who wanted this all done ‘proper’.” Aaron can’t hold in his laughter and then Robert starts tickling him, which ends up as a family affair with the kids join in until Aaron pleads with them to stop.
It's New Year's Eve, and hopes are high Dance one year in, kiss one goodbye
“You ready?” His Mum asks, straightening his tie.
“Of course he is lass.” His gran pipes up from her chair. He was so pleased she’d made it over again and he’d proudly shown her around the cafe the day before, showing off a little, enjoying the pleased smile on her face.
“You don’t think it’s a bit silly do you?” He asks, nerves hitting him all of a sudden. “Three weddings…it’s not a bit…”
“I think it’s wonderful love. You and Aaron have been through so much, I don’t see why you shouldn’t celebrate the fact that despite everything you’re still together.” She straightens his tie again, pressing a kiss to his cheek. “I’m very proud of you.”
“Thanks Mum. We should get going.” He needs to or he’s going to cry and he doesn’t want that, not today.
They walk into the village, meeting Aaron and the kids on the path to the village hall. Cain’s with him and Robert can see Eve. Thank goodness Chas hadn’t put up a fight or he might have had to go round there and get the little girl herself.
“Hi.” Aaron’s eyes are soft as he looks at him, but Seb tugging on his arm stops his reply.
“Are we ready Daddy?”
“Yes mate.” He holds out a hand to Aaron as Cain helps Annie to her seat at the front, and Robert watches to make sure he wraps the blanket they’d bought around her. It wasn’t that cold for them, but he didn’t want her to get chilly, she wasn’t used to the English weather anymore. He bursts out laughing as she bats Cain’s hand away. “Oh I wish I had a camera.”
“You’re horrible.”
“That’s why you love me.”
Another chance, another start So many dreams to tease the heart
Unlike their wedding, there’s no readings, or sisters glaring at them, just Charles speaking about fresh starts and second chances, and how he’d come to know them well and had never seen any couple so in love. Aaron’s hand finds his then and he stares at him, wondering just how he got to be so lucky. Then it’s time for their vows.
“At our last wedding, I said that I was lucky to get a second chance. Never could I have believed that I’d need a third. You love me, even when I don’t deserve it. When I push you away, you’re always there. You’re a brilliant Dad to our three children, and I don’t know where I would be without you and I never want to find out. You’re still the bravest, kindest man I know, and I love you more every day.” Aaron’s got tears in his eyes and he smiles at him as he takes his turn.
“I’ve never been very good at this part and it always feels like what I say is not enough. I once said that I love you so much that I don’t know what to do with it, and that’s never changed. Not for a single second. You can be the most infuriating man, but I still love you because everything you do, you do for me, for our children and I promise that you’ll never have to be without be. You deserve every bit of love that we have for you, don’t ever forget that.” This time it’s him that’s crying and laughing and he feels a little light headed as he leans in to kiss Aaron, hearing the usual giggles from the kids, and from Eve.
“Well, I don’t think I need to add anything except to wish you both a long and happy life together.” Charles announces and then they’re walking down the steps to their family.
“Oh love, that was just wonderful.” His Mum is crying over him and he looks to Aaron for help. He just smiles and shakes his head as the kids are all over him. It’s perfect, just as he wanted it.
Your lips are warm, my head is light Were we in love before tonight?
“Alright?” Robert asks, stepping out of the back door, the noise fading away as he shuts the door. Aaron’s sitting on the steps, beer in hand but Robert can’t read the expression on his face. The party at the house has been going a few hours and everyone is more than a little merry. Thankfully the kids had happily gone up to his Mum’s flat with Sarah and Noah and were hopefully fast asleep.
“Yeah, course. Just needed a minute. Pretty loud in there.” He’d bailed when Sam had started dancing with a pint held to his head Robert automatically looked back inside, wincing when he thought about the state of the place. He’d worry about that tomorrow. “It’s been a brilliant day. I know I joked about it, but it really has.”
“I told you I could do it.”
“Yes you did. Not that I didn’t love both of our other ones, but I think this one might be my favourite…you know?” He nods, of course he did, there was no sadness anymore, no prison on the horizon, no grief to get through, just happiness and a life ahead.
“I know. I love you, you know.”
“Love you too.” He leans over to kiss him.
“Come with me.” He held out a hand to Aaron getting to his feet.
“Where, it’s nearly midnight.”
“I know. No one will miss us.” He shakes his head but follows him anyway, into the village.
No need to hear the music play Your eyes say all there is to say The stars can fade And they can shine Long as your face is next to mine
Robert doesn't say anything but a smile crosses Aaron's face when they reach the gazebo next to the village hall, still decorated from earlier in the day. He fumbles a little but eventually gets the lights switched back on and Aaron’s looking up in wonder. “That’s better.”
“What are we doing back here?”
“Wanted to see the new year in somewhere quiet, just us.”
“And the garden wouldn’t do?”
“No. This place…I’ve never been as happy as I was that day you know.”
“Me too. Today’s a pretty close second, sharing everything with our kids. Last time though, eh?” He smiled.
“Mmm, yeah, no more weddings.” He takes hold of Aaron’s hands, tugging him down the steps into the open. “Dance with me.”
“I don’t dance.”
“No one can see. It’s just us. For me…Call it a late Christmas present.”
“There’s no music.” He complained, feeling self conscious even though they were all alone.
“We don’t need it. Come on, as it’s our last wedding.”
“It better be!”
Neither of them noticed the time ticking over to midnight, or the fireworks going off in the distance as they swayed from side to side, just the two of them.
We don't need a crowded ballroom Everything I need is here, if you're with me Next year will be the perfect year

looking back robert really able to hold a hold over people i mean look at the list i still think he held a hold over these people until the end
-Katie she seemed way too obsessed with him/again put robert above andy in a way, which i think it clear she never got over robert breaking her heart and maybe hurting andy too, i still back and forth if she gone back there if Robert had been interested, her face when robert said he was obsessed with her suggests she wanted robert to be interested in her.
-Chrissie their last moments touching seems despite everything they still loved/cared for each other, Chrissie despite being done with Robert seemed hurt when learned of robert/rebecca (maybe it fact her sister betrayed her) but guess hurt robert had cheated on her more than once, since she believed she threw away what they had for love. and seemed hurt when robert said she was second best to rebecca and said all robert had to give her way that look at would forgive him for anything to rebecca.
-Rebecca like robert said i still think if robert had wanted her he could have her, she would gone back there and seemed way too forgiving of robert (maybe cause of seb) but still, i think only reason she moved on cause saw no chance/knew she didn't compare to aaron, i think only reason she thought she had a chance is because she didn't know aaron/see robert/aaron and was pathetic that ons night when robert easily talked her round because she even said robert was kidding himself and loved aaron.
lawrence- again robert was able to use lawrence feelings/attraction to his advantage even though robert admitted to playing him, used both of his daughters etc but still forgive and believe robert cared XD
connor- don't know much about but he still seemed completely infatuated and robert knew how use him
aaron- forgave him for a lot of crap, and gave him how many chances, i still think to this day he loves robert and was bsing he said he still choose ben even if robert was here, aaron to me seemed conflicted and not convincing when said that it like he just try and bury what he felt for robert to appease ben and chas and cause he knew robert was not going to be coming back and knew he has to move on, like aaron said to chas once as long as robert around he couldn't trust himself, the only reason ben got a look in is because robert was not around. aaron in his last moments even though ben was his boyfriend who had been murdered he was telling chas how the place not been the same since robert left, which think shows he still loves and misses robert and ben was just the rebound boyfriend and him saying honestly was him finally being honest about missing robert because his had to hide it from ben/chas etc
it's beautiful isn't it :')
meanwhile he was busy obsessing about aaron and aaron only and that's love

It wasn’t me I swear...
Summery:Mackenzie babysitting Seb is a great idea ..... totally!
This is kinda just a concept of uncle Mackenzie being a totally responsible uncle 😂 feat Robron because meh
@sugdenlovesdingle look what you made me do! 😂 I’m obsessed dammit
Enjoy❤️
“Sebastian white what did you do!”
Mackenzie was in a panic
The toddler had somehow gotten on top of the tv stand and knocked it over the television . Great Aaron and Robert would love to watch a cracked screen instead of Real Tv.
Who was he kidding the Scotsman rubbed the back of his thinking of what to do.
“Play! Mackenzie play!” The Little Boy practically begged jumping up and down on the spot. Pulling on Mackenzie’s trousers.
“Not now sebbie we have things to do”
The Scotsman said trying to ignore the pouting lip from the three year old still staring up at him.
He grabbed his car keys from the bowl, and put on his plaid fur jacket. Grabbing sebs goat from the hook as well.
“Right get this on mate because we’re off in the car!” Mackenzie announced trying to sound excited about it. When in reality, he just wanted the Ginger haired toddler to not start crying.
Seb responded well grabbing his shoes off the wrack and waddling over to the sofa. So that his ‘uncle’ could put them on for him.
“On!” He points to his foot. Indicating he wanted Mackenzie to do it for him. The Scotsman just rolled his eyes and smiled. Happily putting them on for him.
“Right lets go!” He said. Putting on the toddlers coats as well, before picking him up from the sofa to settle him on his hip.
He walked outside the front door locking it,and headed towards his car.
“Let’s do the magic click”
Mackenzie clicked the unlock button on his car keys. Knowing Seb loved it and thought it was magic.
He buckled the toddler into his car seat securely. Then got into the drives seat and set off to try and fix this mess... before Aaron and Robert got back.
—————-
“Daddy’s!” Seb squeals running up to his two dads wanting a cuddle.
“Hey bubba!” Robert Greeted giving his son a cuddle then putting him down on the sofa.
“How was he?” The blonde asked his friend who was sat awkwardly on the floor looking like he was about to burst into flames or something.
“U-uh fine absolutely fine! Nothing happened!” He blabbered out getting strange looks from both Aaron and Robert.
“Um okay...” Aaron replied walking away into the kitchen to plate up their dinner, that he had taken out from the Hop.
“Dinner just needs heating up Guys it’ll be half an hour” He let his husband and friend know before getting on.
“Fantastic I’m just off upstairs!” The Scotsman tried to run off.
“Come too!” The toddler suddenly proclaimed toddling off the sofa to follow him upstairs.
“Absolutely fine! In fact let’s go to the park!” He panicked. Not knowing how to handle himself...
“I mean can we quickly?” He practically shouted at Robert sounding more like a demand than an ask.
“Um sure but only for 20 minutes!” Robert compromised.
The Scotsman didn’t need anymore approval and grabbed Seb before running off outside.
Robert shook his head wondering what was up with the Scotsman. Nevermind he’ll ask later he thought.
He sat down with a beer ready to watch the chase he had recorded to watch later... huh that was strange.
“Aaron?” He suddenly asked his husband.
“Yeah what is it rob?” He questioned.
“Why is our Tv suddenly a Samsung?”
It took him one second to realise why Mackenzie was being so strange
——-
The Scotsman was standing outside the front door when herd the very angry Blonde
“MACKENZIE!”
He just shrugged.
........ hey at least he was responsible enough to replace it.
“I’m sure it’s fine” he tried to reassure the Toddler.
“When I get you I’m gonna kill you then bring back to life and do it again”
On second thoughts maybe he was better just live in the park for the rest of his life
It’s what Seb would have wanted anyway....

Robert’s birthday hadn’t gone exactly to plan. The kids had been even more demanding than usual, and they’d missed their dinner reservation because Annie kept fussing and wouldn’t settle for anyone other than Robert. Oh, and the baby vomit down Robert’s shirt too.
“As soon as she’s asleep, I’ll get changed and we’ll go,” Robert said, rocking Annie on his shoulder.
“No, we won’t,” Aaron said, smiling slightly at the image of Robert with their daughter on his shoulder. “We’re an hour late, we won’t have the table any more.” Robert sighed, feeling guilty. “Don’t worry, your favourite champagne’s in the fridge, we can get her to sleep, check on Seb, then have a bath together instead. How’s that sound?”
“Perfect,” Robert said. It did, he was knackered with a restless baby and a Seb who was asking 300 questions a minute at the moment. “I don’t know why she won’t sleep for you.”
“She’s like me,” Aaron said. “Only calms down with you.” Robert’s eyes glowed at him with warmth.

Prompt: Aaron and Seb making Robert's favourite food for tea because he's been stressed out with work stuff and they want to spoil him a little.
it’s all about you
It had been a few hours since Aaron had put his foot down, gently pulled Robert’s laptop and the constantly-refilling mug of coffee at his side away from him, and all but dragged him out of the chair at the kitchen table. He’d pushed him up the stairs and insisted that he get some rest, because is all honesty, Robert looked like death and it was causing a hard knot of worry to twist in Aaron’s stomach.
He couldn’t remember the last time Robert had slept, properly slept, since a new prestigious contract had come in and with it, a mountain of paperwork that it fell to Robert to fill in and file, pages and pages of it that left him rubbing at sore, sleepy eyes and snapping at Seb whenever he asked for help with his homework, though Aaron knew he didn’t mean it.
“Is Dad okay?” Seb had asked tentatively, once Robert had gone upstairs. He hugged his Chemistry book to his chest, biting his lip the same way Aaron did when he was nervous or worried. He was nearly sixteen, but to Aaron he’d always be a chubby red-haired toddler who loved splashing in the swimming pool.
“Yeah, he will be,” Aaron reassured him. “He just doesn’t know when to stop sometimes, does me ‘ead in.” A grin broke out on his face. “Tell you what, though, I’ve got an idea. But I’m gonna need ya to help me, alright? Show your dad just how much he means to us, whether he’s basically killing himself at work or not. You in?”
---
Robert emerged sometime around half past six, having slept through most of the afternoon and well into the evening. He was floppy-haired and dressed in mismatched pyjamas, a combination of his own and Aaron’s, with Aaron’s old faded purple hoodie wrapped around his shoulders. He stepped out onto the stairs and was momentarily struck speechless.
On the table were several candles, flames gently flickering, next to a bottle of red wine that Robert could tell even from this distance was the expensive kind, the kind Aaron usually wouldn’t let him buy because he complained it was a rip-off and that he wasn’t paying that much to get drunk, Robert, are you kidding me? Next to that, there was a huge dish of something that smelled - well, it smelled amazing, but something else too, and he was suddenly hit with such an overwhelming surge of it that it almost knocked him over.
Home. Not just any home, but the home of his childhood, of his Mum’s brightly-coloured knitted jumpers and going into the fields in his Wellingtons with her to feed the lambs.
“Is that-?” he started, unable to formulate the words as he made his way down the stairs, to where Aaron was pulling another tray out of the oven, Seb nearby grinning like a madman as if waiting for his reaction.
“Your Mum’s lasagne? Yeah, it is,” Aaron said, standing up and piling a plate high with steaming garlic bread. Robert’s stomach rumbled; he hadn’t eaten since a pathetic excuse for a ham sandwich at lunchtime, almost seven hours ago. “Don’t worry, Seb did most of the cooking, I just sorted the oven out.”
“You’ve been really stressed so...we wanted to do something nice for you,” Seb explained. “To show that we appreciate you. Right, Da?”
“Exactly,” Aaron nodded. “I know how you get when you’re up to your neck in stuff, you forget to take care of yourself. So this is me - us - taking care of you for a change.” A soft smile spread across his face. “You deserve it, Rob.”
Robert crossed the room to where Aaron stood, still holding one of their spatulas. He wrapped his arms around his waist and pulled him in, planting a soft, sweet kiss on his lips. “I’m so lucky to have you. And you,” he added, extending one arm out to invite Seb to join them, which he did, deciding for once he didn’t care about being embarrassed.
He hugged them both close. “I love you both so much,” he mumbled, pressing a kiss first to Aaron’s temple  and then Seb’s. His son and his husband, the two great joys of his life.
Where would he be without them?

Conversations Over an Inflatable Swimming Pool
Some Robron Family fic for the @robronengagementgiftexchange for the dear, sweet @sugdenlovesdingle. I hope you like it, darling!
~*~
“What is this?” Robert asks, hands on his hips as he stares out at the giant blue inflatable monstrosity in his garden.
“It’s a pool, dad,” Seb responds, literally bouncing where he stands next to Robert.
“Yeah, it’s a pool dad,” Annalisa adds, mirroring everything her big brother does.
“Yeah, it’s a,” Aaron starts to say as he approaches from Robert’s other side, his hair matted down with sweat. But Robert stops him with a hand placed firmly over his mouth.
“Don’t you start. I know it’s a pool. I’m wondering why it’s here.”
“Daaaaaad,” Seb whines as he grabs Robert’s left hand and begins yanking on it. “It’s for us to swim in!”
Aaron raises his eyebrows and licks the palm of Robert’s hand, causing him to pull it back in disgust. “I realize it’s here for swimming purposes, I just don’t know why we… you know what. Never mind.”
He turns around to head back into the house, the last sight of the garden being one of his ten-year-old son helping his daddy get the garden hose into the pool while his seven-year-old daughter twirls around in the grass like a ballerina.
Aaron is getting an earful tonight.
~*~
Aaron doesn’t get an earful. Aaron gets an… ahem… mouthful of something else. And all of a sudden a pool doesn’t seem like the worst idea in the world.
~*~
It’s because they promised the kids a sea break, Aaron says. But then the entire world shut down on them and Aaron had wanted to give their kids a fun compensation.
It’s ugly. It’s gigantic. It’s likely going to ruin the grass beneath it. But he supposes that seeing the kids smiling that wide is enough of a reward.
He supposes.
~*~
“Aaron!” he shouts from where he’s flat on his bum at the bottom of the stairs.
Thankfully the kitchen window is open, or else Robert would have no chance of being heard over the sounds of the kids playing in the water outside.
“AARON!!!”
“What, what, what’s going on?” Aaron asks, but any concern he may have been feeling seems to evaporate the moment he sees the state of Robert.
He’s on the floor at the bottom of the stairs, just like he said, but he’s also surrounded by a basket’s worth of dirty laundry. He thinks there may even be a stray sock on his head.
Aaron begins laughing so hard he has to bend over like he’s busting a gut.
“It’s not funny,” Robert says stonily as he flexes both of his ankles to make sure he hasn’t broken anything.
“Oh I think… think you’ll… find… you’re wrong there,” he manages to stutter between laughs as he approaches Robert and plucks an article of clothing from atop Robert’s head.
He holds it in front of Robert’s face, still giggling as Robert realizes that it was a pair of Annalisa’s princess knickers.
So not a sock after all.
“These stairs are lethal as is,” he says forcefully as he gets to his feet, without Aaron’s help because Aaron is still laughing at him.
“I know,” Aaron replies.
“Add water to them and they’re even worse.”
“I know,” Aaron says, this time trying - and failing - to keep a straight face.
“You said that if we kept the pool you’d make sure the water stayed outside,” Robert says what’s probably being construed as poutily.
“I know,” Aaron says softly, trailing his fingers gently up the side of Robert’s face before twisting them in Robert’s hair. “But that’s also kind of an impossible thing to promise.”
Robert is going to argue further, but Aaron’s lips have other ideas.
~*~
“Em, Aaron?” Robert asks as he strolls up to the pool, his eyes flitting between the pool itself and the rather intoxicating image of his husband, laid out on a pool chair in nothing but a pair of swimming shorts and sunglasses as their children sword fight across the garden with a pair of pool noodles.
“Yes, dear?” Aaron says cheekily as he slips the sunglasses down his nose so that Robert knows he’s got his undivided attention.
“Are those crisps in the pool?”
Aaron shrugs. “Probably.”
“Probably,” Robert mutters. “Well don’t you think that crisps might be bad for, say, the three hundred pounds worth of a pool filter we had to purchase for this big idea of yours?”
Aaron shrugs again. “Probably. But that’s what this is for.”
He grabs the pool skimmer from next to his chair and tosses it at Robert.
Robert doesn’t even attempt to catch it. He just heads back into the house and continues making tea, promising himself that Aaron will get a piece of his mind later.
He doesn’t, of course. He never does.
~*~
The days tick on like that, with Aaron and the kids enjoying their pool and Robert wondering if he’ll ever be able to get his roses to grow back properly after being sodden.
He knows they’re having fun, which is the only reason why he allows it. And truth be told, Robert has some fun, too, watching them from the window or from one of the pool chairs if he’s being brave enough.
He never joins in, but smiles more often than he’d care to admit as he watches Aaron play a sea monster chasing a pair of screaming children they call their own.
It’s his family. And his family is well worth it.
~*~
One day it’s eerily quiet outside, more so than it should be. And Robert wonders if they’ve finally all managed to kill each other as he walks out into the garden to investigate.
What he finds stops his heart in the best way possible.
They’re all still in the pool, all three of them, but they’re not swimming or fighting or eating crisps. They’re all lying on their backs, floating with their faces towards the sun in the most peaceful scene Robert has ever witnessed.
He just watches them for a few seconds, basking in the moment, before an idea strikes him that he just can’t seem to pass up.
He moves around the side of the house, finding what he’s looking for, turning on the water before making his way back to the pool.
The sound the three of them make when Robert turns the hose on them is absolutely priceless.
For a minute they can do nothing to stave off his attack, simply stand there screaming, covering their faces. But then Seb finds his water pistol, Annalisa finds a bucket, and Aaron just sits back and smiles as their children take the fight to Robert.
“Come on, daddy, you get him too!” Annalisa screams, but instead of joining in, he picks her up and places her on his shoulders, passing her up bucket after bucket of pool water that she chucks Robert’s way as Seb continues to fire without mercy.
They’re all laughing like lunatics, water flying everywhere across Robert’s pristine garden. But even though he may be ruining his favourite shirt with all of the chlorine, he doesn’t even care. Because he’s in love. Robert is in love with every single one of them. And Robert never in all his life thought he’d feel this kind of love.
So what hurt can a little water cause?

So I watched the Charity/Mack wedding episode since I’m working from home today and happen to have not had a meeting during it...
I just can’t believe they actually had them get married and they’re dragging all of this out even longer.
Also they need to name all of these babies better...Reuben?! I mean we’ve got a Rueben and an Esther and a Dotty and let’s not forget Moses. I mean I also hated the name Seb for a long time and got used to that but still...
But back to Charity and Mack and this terrible story...I just...
It’s the Charity/Jai/Rachel story mixed with the Robron/Rebecca story but worse than both.
At least you were rooting for Robron and you could kind of hate Jai and see the writing on the wall because they fundamentally disagreed on the kids issue. With Charity and Mack, I’ve never known how to feel because it all just feels like a lot of last minute decisions to cover Michelle’s maternity leave.
So on the hand you have Vanity who are the popular ship and all of their fans loathe Charity with Mack. And there’s the question of whether or not they will eventually try and put Vanity back together once Michelle stops having kids but is it too late for that at this point? Or will they still try?
And so the part of me that kind of likes some aspects of Charity and Mack in that he does seem to love her for her and not need her to change (kids issue aside, and even that I think he does kind of ultimately want her more than kids of his own even though that’s what he’s got now) is doubly frustrated because they feel doomed due to the story and due to a possibility of future Vanity.
One of the things that always frustrated me about Vanity was that Vanessa never really seemed to get Charity in a lot of ways, was always trying to change her or getting upset at her for any scheming and such. And some of those changes were good but also it was just the same conflict over and over and that got exhausting and she never seemed to really trust her with the big stuff like cancer and Johnny.
But, while majorly underdeveloped due to everything feeling like a last minute change, Mack does seem like a decent choice for her if you ignore you know the whole lying to her for months and cheating on her and having a baby with someone else part. And his bizarre age thing, but that’s a whole other story. So I could like that.
But was this all set up to fail just to bide time for Michelle to return? Possibly. Probably. And then there’s the fact that they’ve done a whole lot of damage to both characters to facilitate this idiotic pregnancy story no one asked for. The kids conflict is annoying and already done with Charity multiple times. Charity looks like an absolute idiot not noticing anything is going on despite Chloe living with them and everyone acting shady. The fact that multiple family members know about the Chloe situation and no one has told her is even worse. And any character growth she has had now that she thinks she’s in a stable relationship is all just going to get trashed again and for what?
And then of course it all makes Mack look like an asshole. At least Robert came clean and he and Aaron dealt with everything before they had their legal wedding. All this carrying on with Mack lying constantly just makes him look worse and worse and I don’t really know where they take his character after this. When he first showed up he was fun and snarky and full of possibilities and now...what? He just gets stuck in a revenge story with Charity? Plays Daddy to Reuben? Yells “My boy, my son” a lot with no reprieve? It’s just kind of a waste.
That’s not even addressing Chloe who got sucked into this story after getting passed around to all the village guys for the sake of plot who has had so many convoluted revelations about her backstory that she’s just never been properly developed as a character but guess what! You’re a mom! And that’s all that matters on this show. Congrats, you’ve been fulfilled.
(this isn’t even getting into the absolute absurdity that was the entire A Team wedding nonsense that seemed to have come out of nowhere just so they could do something dramatic and silly and promote it)
Sigh...And this is why I usually only watch one episode every two weeks. Haha.

WHEN YOU SEE THIS, SHARE 3 RANDOM LINES FROM 3 WIPS
I saw this on my dash right now and thought it would be fun to do! So here are three excerpts:
1. I Stumbled Into Your Darkness
Aaron jokingly frowns, “I dunno. I think unemployment is a good look for you. You’re like a proper househusband.” As soon as the words leave his mouth, he immediately regrets it. He gulps a little and hazards a look towards Robert.
His face softens - eyes a mishmash of blue and green - and he leans back on the barstool. “I quite like being a househusband. Mind you, it’s not at the same level of being a trophy husband, you being skint and all.”
“Oh piss off.” Aaron laughs, the tension that was building in his chest unfurls at the light teasing. “I’m about to be a vet tech, then we’ll see who’s laughing.”
2. Untitled Robert Project
Robert goes to the cafe everyday after that encounter in hopes of seeing that bloke again. Unfortunately for him, Robert never does. It's like he was some kind of ghost or something, meant to humble Robert or something. Humility, Robert decides, is going to be part of Untitled Robert Project.
Being with Chrissie, and indeed all the Whites, brought out the worst in Robert. He became rude, snobby, and flaunted his wealth and power all the time. Going through the divorce humbled him somewhat, but seven years of bad habits is hard to break.
3. Chapter 5 of Disjointed Touches
It had taken Aaron some time to sort his feelings for the child. Mainly, he feels sorry for him. Aaron could never outright hate a child - he knows all too well what it’s like to be hated merely for existing. Seb is an innocent party to the whole thing, but it still makes Aaron uneasy regarding how he should act around the boy. He is an active participant in ruining his parent’s marriage; there isn’t exactly a manual on how to treat your married boyfriend’s kid. Though, even the word boyfriend isn’t exactly the right word for Aaron and Robert.
In the end, Aaron just treats Seb like he would any other child: with love and respect. It seems to work because every time Robert walks into a room holding Seb, he immediately wants to be held by Aaron. And who is Aaron to deny such a request?

It's 100% percent canon that, ever since his dad's sat him down and explained there'd be no trick or treating this year (and no birthday party, but that's a WHOLE different story), Seb decided there was only one appropriate course of action: no treats? Lots of tricks, and since his dads and his little sister were the only people around......
Which is how Aaron and Robert's October 31st turned out to be a very literal nightmare. The lucrative haulage proposal Robert had spent TWO MONTHS working on was found in the washing machine, reduced to mulch (because Aaron can't check when he moves the washing from the basket to the machine, no, it just gets thrown in. He'd put the basket in too if he could). His favourite blue shirt reduced to a very unflattering, almost mardi gras esque monstrosity courtesy of safety scissors ("it's not like you haven't good forty others is it," his husband helpfully chipped in, not really trying and very much failing not to laugh.)
It's how Aaron got a very nasty surprise that morning, thanks to cellophane wrap and their ensuite toilet. And an even nastier surprise when it turned out there was glue in his hard hat all day at work ("that's what you get for actually going,")
It's how they both nearly had heart failure when they saw the state of the living room after baby Claire somehow got into the safety paints ("glass half full, we've been putting off redecorating all year,")
All in all it was the most exhausting day they'd had all year. The problem was, as much as they knew who was behind their house of horrors (Aaron had noticed Seb strutting around the place with an uncomfortably familiar smug grin on his face all day), they couldn't prove it. But they had to lay the blame somewhere, it was *somebody's* fault.
They collapsed on the sofa after the kids finally went down for the count. After a long silence, both wondering where to begin cleaning up the diaster that was Mill cottage, they turned to face each other, forehead to forehead, and said;
"He's your son, you sort it."

Oooh man, strap yourself in! Iif rewriting 2017 (and angst was needed) I'd have done the below (apologies as its long):
The ONS didn't happen, he kissed her but stopped himself.
B*x still gets pregnant from Ross, she finds out he's cheated on her, so she and Chrissie decide to punish both Ross and Robert by claiming she didn't know who the father is.
Aaron's back at this point and still vulnerable from prison. Rob can't account for where he was that night (passed out or whatever) and Adam points out B*x had been in Mill with him alone.
Chaddy and Liv are all convinced Rob cheated, they persuade Aaron. Aaron breaks up with him, he's not in a good place either.
Robert spirals quickly as he actually did nothing wrong, gets on the wrong side of Cain's fists (while trying to talk to Aaron) and ends up in hospital.
Over a few months:
Dingles turn on Robert for hurting Aaron, the Sugdens and rest of the village thinks he's vile because he's not stepping up for his unborn kid. Robert starts drinking and blacking out. Ross is a model soon to be dad in comparison.
Lawrence offers Robert his old job back as 'he's family again', and helps get him set up in Jacob's Fold.
Liv trashes Rob's house, steals his car and burns it. Cain threatens Robert if he dares report her to the police. Liv feels guilty and starts drinking.
Lachlan takes advantage of Robert's drinking and starts hurting people/damaging things (including drugging Liv) and the blame gets put on Robert, who doesn't know he didn't do it.
Robert gets arrested and released on lack of evidence, everyone thinks he's guilty anyway.
Liv ends up in hospital, Aaron meets Alex, that all happens, they get together but Aaron is just as happy as he was in canon.
Lawrence spends time trying to get Robert to step up as a father, then actually listens to him and starts doubting if the baby is Robert's. Robert tries to sort himself out.
His doubts are half because he has his weird crush, but they actually bond like normal human beings and we see what their relationship was like before Rob met Chrissie (although the canon Robrence stuff was fucking hilarious).
Robert starts coping because he loves his job and has a home of his own, he's sure that the paternity results will bring Aaron back to him. Aaron is angry/upset that Robert is back at Home Farm.
Baby is born, both Ross and Rob take paternity tests (Rob to use as proof 100% that it wasn't his, as he been denying it from the very start).
Results come back, the dingles just assume that Robert HAD doubted paternity or he wouldn't have taken the test. They still think he cheated and lied about it. Aaron agrees with them, he's exhausted and miserable and just wants to be back with Rob but can't let himself as he's not ready.
Rob has a complete, full on mental breakdown now he realises he's lost Aaron for good, even though he'd not cheated, and he's found by either Jimmy/Nicola or Vanessa, who take him to the hospital or mental health clinic.
B*x and Chrissie wonder if they went too far, Lachlan confesses the crime he did and blamed drunken Robert for, Lawrence overhears and throws them all out, he can't believe his own family would do that.
Lawrence tells Aaron and his family the truth, Aaron tries to visit at the mental health clinic but Robert won't let anyone visit. He lashes out at his family for telling him to break up with Robert.
Lawrence plans to take Lachlan, Chrissie B*x and Seb out of the country. Ross overhears and takes Seb, Lachlan crashes the car as per canon, but B*x is the only one who dies.
Ross gets custody of the baby, Lawrence gives Robert some cash as an apology. Lachlan goes to prison for everything he blamed/ set up Robert for, and the crash.
Rob comes home, Aaron offers to break up with Alex for him, Robert turns him down. He's now the one who's mentally exhausted, and unable to be with anyone until his head is sorted. He's A Wreck.
Rob goes to A LOT of therapy and starts doing up Jacob's Fold as a project. Aaron and Vic help and they both fix their relationships with Rob over some time.
I like this mainly because:
We still get the angst and break up.
Robert isn't in the wrong (he always is, in canon, and it's really fucking annoying).
I wish we'd had more Rob & Lawrence, frankly. Larry's one sided crush was great 😂.
B*x could have actually had a proactive role and stepped into being awful, instead of just being a vessel of the Plot.
We get more bitchy Chrissie, I love her.
More spiteful Liv, it's in character as she's always borderline hated Robert anyway.
We see how quickly the Dingles and Sugdens turn on Robert, and afterwards they realise they should have been nicer.
Robert. Has. An. Actual. Breakdown. And. Gets. Therapy.
anon you hurt my SOUL with some of this!
It's good though, definitely better than the shitshow we actually got! I'm so torn on rebecca though. She had so much potential to be the top bitch and screw over her family before the plot made her the eternal victim of evil Robert.
Her and Robert scheming together to take down the whites would have been gold. And then they'd split Larry's money 50/50 and robron use their share for surrogacy.
and a couple of dogs.

an ibhfc version of emmerdale's first pride (plus another one in the future) to make up for this week's upcoming episodes with aaron and the village's resident kayaking creep
AO3 link here
Pride 2021
“Right, that’ll be £7.99, please.” Victoria pushed Aaron’s lunch towards him.
“Cheers.”
“Oh, almost forgot!” She grabbed a brightly-coloured collection tin that was sitting on the end of the counter. “We’re taking donations for the Pride festival if you’ve got any spare change?”
Aaron frowned. “What Pride festival?”
“Oh, didn’t you hear? Charles is organising it.”
“In the village?”
“Yeah, he says it’s mad that we’ve not had one before. Apparently it was always a big event at his last parish. He’s not wrong, really, it’s about time we did more than your mum sticking a bit of multi-coloured bunting up behind the pub each June.”
“Huh.”
“Think you’ll go? It’s next weekend.”
“I – ”
“From what Charles and Ethan said, it should be fun,” Vic spoke over him, hands waving animatedly. “There’s music, food and games, all sorts! It’s family-friendly too, so you can bring Seb. We can go together if you want? I was planning on meeting up with Matty and Amy but – ”
“Vic, stop for breath would ya?” Aaron huffed a laugh. “Yeah, I'm up for it.”
*
On the morning of the festival, Victoria let herself into Mulberry Cottage and cast an appraising look over Aaron. He shuffled uncomfortably.
“What?”
She gave a quick wave to Seb, who was sitting on the sofa, and looked Aaron up and down again. “That’s what you’re wearing, is it?”
He glanced down at his black t-shirt and jeans. “What’s wrong with it?”
“Nothing! Except, well, it’s not very colourful is it?”
“You’ve known me, what, 13 years? When have you ever seen me do colourful?”
“But it’s Pride!”
“So?”
“Oh come on, you have to get into the spirit of it. Speaking of which – ” She rummaged in her oversized handbag and pulled out a small, light blue article of clothing, passing it over. “I saw this in town and I couldn’t resist.”
As Aaron unfolded it, he realised it was a child-sized pair of dungarees with a bright rainbow stitched across the chest. His mouth quirked upwards.
“Alright, that’s pretty cute.”
“I know, right? Should’ve got something for you too, you big grump.”
The retort Aaron was about to give her was cut off when he felt tug on his trousers and looked down to see Seb standing next to him.
“Is that for me?” He asked, looking at the dungarees with curiosity.
“Yep, Auntie Vic got them for you to wear to Pride today. What d’you say?”
“Thank you.”
“You’re welcome, sweetheart. You’d better hurry and get ready, though, or we’ll be late!”
Seb grabbed Aaron’s hand and started tugging him towards the stairs. “Daddy, come on!”
Although he was a little young to quite get what Pride was all about, he’d been full of beans about the whole thing ever since Aaron had told him they were going to a party, especially once he’d found out Isaac and Dotty would be there, too.
“Alright, let’s get you changed.” He looked back at Vic and rolled his eyes. “I’ll get changed, too.”
She grinned at him.
*
“Did you and Robert ever go to Pride?” Vic quietly asked as the four of them made their way to the field where the festival was being held, Seb in his new dungarees and Aaron in the one green t-shirt owned (“It’s a colour that’s on the flag, Vic, that’s as good as you’re getting.”)
“Nah.” Aaron shook his head. “Never got round to it. We used to talk about maybe going to the one in Leeds or something, but somethin’ always came up. Then we'd always say we’d go the next year but… ”
But we ran out of years.
“Yeah.” Vic’s face fell a little and she squeezed Aaron’s hand lightly. “But we’ll have a nice time, won’t we?”
“Daddy, there’s music!” Seb called from where he was walking just in front of them. They could indeed hear the sound of upbeat pop music blasting through a speaker as they got closer to the festival. “Hurry!”
“Coming, mate.” Aaron called after his retreating back, smiling at his enthusiasm. He sighed and squeezed Vic’s hand in return. “Yeah, we’ll have a good time.”
*
Considering Emmerdale’s tiny size, the village’s first Pride event had a pretty good turnout. The festival was full of so much colour and noise that Aaron ended up hoisting Seb up on his hip, slightly wary of losing track of him in among the chaos. The three of them wandered around for a while, taking in the party-like atmosphere and watching Charles and Ethan both make heartfelt speeches on the small stage that had been set up.
At some point Marlon called Victoria's name and she went over to catch up with him and April, leaving Aaron and Seb to carry on exploring alone. The little boy seemed to love it so far, taking in the sights and sounds with increasing delight.
“You wanna get your face painted? Aaron asked, pointing to a tent where Matty and Amy were emerging hand in hand, both of them covered in body paint.
Seb clapped his hands enthusiastically. “Yeah!”
They made their way inside and sat across from a girl who looked barely 20 and was covered head to toe in paint and glitter.
“Hello.” She smiled brightly at Seb, who predictably turned under the attention bashful and tucked himself against Aaron’s chest. She tilted her head down to catch his eye. “What’s your name?”
“Seb.”
“Nice to meet you, Seb, I’m Freya. Do you want some rainbows?”
Seb nodded shyly and sat as still as a three year-old could while she carefully painted a small pride flag on each of his cheeks, Aaron holding his waist to stop him from squirming too much under the tickle of the brush.
“There, all done.” She brandished her brush towards Aaron. “Are we doing your face as well?”
“Uh, no thanks.”
“Yes.” Seb smacked a palm on Aaron’s cheek enthusiastically. “Rainbows for you, too!”
Aaron sighed. The things he did for his son.
“Alright. Do your worst.”
When they emerged from the tent five minutes later and bumped into Vic again, her eyes lit up with glee.
“Aaron Dingle with glitter on his face.” She fumbled frantically for her phone. “Don’t move, I need a photo.”
“No, don’t – ”
“Moira!” Vic ignored him and called over his shoulder. “Both of them, can you believe it?”
Aaron turned around to see Moira coming towards them with Cain just behind her – Cain whose cheek was adorned with a rainbow flag identical to Aaron’s. He let out a snort that had Cain’s eyes narrowing dangerously at him.
“Not a word out of ya.”
“Wow, how’d they get you?”
“This one made me.” Cain gestured to Isaac, who dropped his hand to run towards Seb, the two of them immediately chasing each other in circles around the adults' legs.
“Come on, you two!” Moira was stood next to Vic, both their phones held up. “Smile!”
Neither of them smiled, but they let them take a couple of snaps.
“Perfect,” Moria smirked down at her screen and turned the phone so Aaron could see a photo of himself and Cain both with matching scowls and rainbows on their faces. “This one’s going on the fridge.”

“You have fun today?” Aaron asked Seb as he carried him home.
Seb’s arms were wrapped loosely around Aaron’s neck and he could barely keep his eyes open, exhausted like most of the other kids in the village. The daytime part of the festival was over, only the child-free people sticking around into the night to keep drinking and dancing.
“Mhm,” Seb hummed tiredly, head flopping around on Aaron’s shoulder. “C’n we do it again?”
“If they do another one next year, then yeah. We can go again.”
He unlocked the door to Mulberry Cottage one-handed, depositing Seb on the sofa and carefully easing his shoes off. He glanced at the photos on the mantlepiece, Robert’s smiling face looking back at him. Aaron straightened up and moved to stand in front of them, adjusting one of the frames slightly.
“Finally went to Pride,” he said quietly. “Can you believe it?”
Just wish you could’ve come with me.

Pride 2025
“Morning!” Vic let herself into Mulberry Cottage, Harry in tow. “Happy Pride.”
“Happy Pride!” Seb shouted back from where he was fiddling with Molly’s rainbow-coloured leash (a purchase he’d talked Aaron into making from one of the stalls the previous year).
“Hiya.” Aaron jogged down the stairs. “Thought you’d be goin' with Ryan this year. He’s got the girls, right?”
“Yeah, we're spending the day together but I told him that me and Harry would meet him there. Us lot always go to Pride together, I’m not breaking tradition now.” She gave Aaron’s blue jeans and red t-shirt an approving nod. “Wow, red and blue this year. Really pushing the boat out.”
“Shut up, you.”
“Where’s that brother of mine?”
“He was just dropping some stuff from the cafe off at the festival, cakes and sandwiches an’ that. Said he’d come back before we set off, though.”
“Well he’d better hurry himself up, I don’t wanna miss whoever Ethan’s got opening the festival this year. And it’s Robert's first one, we can’t be late!”
“Alright, keep your hair on.” Robert appeared in the doorway, nudging past her to come inside. “You can’t be late to a festival, Vic, they’re sort of all day things.”
“You get the food sorted alright?” Aaron asked, shoving his wallet and phone into his pockets.
“Yeah, Jimmy and Nicola are all set up. They’ve roped Angelica into helping out, poor kid.” Robert ruffled Harry's hair before grabbing a bottle of suncream from the coffee table and kneeling down in front of Seb. “Right, suncream on then we can go.”
“I can do it myself,” Seb protested, batting Robert’s hands away from his face.
“Hm. See, I believed you when you said that at the beach the other weekend and we ended up coming home with you looking like a lobster. Keep still.”
Seb sighed and let Robert rub suncream all over him with only a bit of squirming, giggling when Robert finished by poking him sharply in the ribs.
“Dad, not on my t-shirt!” He said, smoothing a protective hand over his new rainbow-striped top. “Don’t get it dirty.”
“Alright, you big fusspot,” Robert teased, kissing him on the head and rising to his feet.
“Leave him alone, you’re no better,” Vic said with a tut. “Right, come on. Chop chop!”
She opened the door to let both Seb and Harry run outside, following closely behind them. Aaron picked up Molly’s leash and held out a hand to Robert.
“Ready?”
Robert grinned and took it.
“Let’s do it.”

The thing about Charles and Ethan was, they always had to one-up themselves. Aaron had no idea how they did it, but every year they somehow managed to increase their budget enough to make Emmerdale Pride bigger and better until now, four years on, the first festival they held looked tiny in comparison. Huge crowds of people swarmed the village, taking in the countless stalls, games, music, drag acts and and live bands playing all day. There were even a few rides this year.
As they made their way through the madness, Aaron gave Robert a quick nudge.
“Okay?”
They were only in the village and they knew a lot of the people there, but there were still some days where Robert and large crowds didn’t mix well. Thankfully, it seemed that today wasn't one of those days, as Robert shot him a small smile and nodded.
“I’m good.”
“Dads!” Seb shouted, running back to tug both their hands. “Can we do the face-painting first?”
Robert let out a mock groan. “Do I have to?”
“If I’m not getting out of it, neither are you,” Aaron muttered.
“Doesn’t have to be rainbows,” Seb said to Robert, shrugging matter-of-factly. “You can get the bisexual colours if you want?”
Aaron watched Robert’s eyes widen ever-so slightly in surprise, before he nodded and let Seb lead him towards to the face-painting tent.
*
After a few hours of exploring and mingling with the other villagers, Aaron and Robert collapsed with a couple of pints at one of the picnic tables, both of them in need of a breather. They’d picked a spot in the shade, keeping half an eye on Seb playing with a group of other kids while they listened to the band currently playing on the stage. Molly drank from the bowl of water they’d put down on the grass for her, before jumping up into Robert’s lap.
After sitting in comfortable silence for a few minutes, Aaron took a long, cooling gulp of his pint and looked away from Seb to glance at Robert. His husband was absently stroking Molly, watching the festival with a slightly pensive look on his face that made Aaron’s brow furrow.
“You alright?”
Robert blinked and turned to look at him. “Yeah, I’m fine.”
“If you're tired, we can go home, y'know.”
Robert gave him a reassuring squeeze on the wrist. “I know. Honestly, it's nothing, just... ” He trailed off and stared once more at the festivities around them. “Could you ever have imagined anythin’ like this in the village when we were growing up?”
That was an easy question to answer.
“No.”
Aaron knew for a fact that the teenage version of him would have never imagined in his wildest dreams seeing the village transformed this way, decked out in bright colours, full of people like him, every resident open and accepting. And he knew the idea would’ve seemed even less likely when Robert was a teenager.
“Bet your dad’s rolling in his grave.”
Robert barked a surprised laugh. “Yeah, probably.”
They watched the party for another couple of minutes, then Robert nodded towards where Seb was tackling Dotty in an overly-enthusiastic game of tag.
“I’m glad that he gets to grow up in this version of the village,” he said softly. “Whether he turns out to be straight or gay or bi – whatever – I don’t want him to ever be scared of being different, like you an’ me were back in the day.”
“Don’t say ‘back in the day’, makes us sound ancient.”
“Well if you keep complaining about your back aching every time we – ”
“Oi!” Aaron gave his shoulder a punch, before trailing his hand down his arm to link their fingers together as they both watched Seb. “Yeah, me too. It is different for him, he knows he can be whoever he wants here. No one’s gonna have a go at him over who he does or doesn’t fancy. And he knows we love him no matter what.”
“Course he does.”
Robert grinned warmly at him and leaned across the table to press his lips to Aaron’s. The two of them kissed lazily until Molly jumped up between them to lick at both their chins and they broke away with a laugh.
“Can't go more than five minutes without needing attention, can you?” Robert pulled her back into his lap, scratching her behind the ears until she settled again. The pink, purple and blue stripes on his face were smudged from where Aaron’s thumb had just rubbed over his cheekbone.
“Sounds like someone I know.”
“Piss off.”
Aaron drained the last of his pint and put the glass to one side, resting his elbows on the table. “Good first Pride, then?”
“Great first Pride.” Robert quirked an eyebrow at him. “It’ll be even better if we carrying on celebrating at home. Y’know, once the kid’s in bed.”
“Oh yeah?”
“Think we've got a bottle of champers in the fridge; I say we crack that open, take it upstairs and then – ”
“Daddy!” Seb ran up to them, grabbing Aaron’s elbow with a pleading look in his eyes. “Can we go on the dodgems? Isaac says him and Uncle Cain are going on.”
Aaron groaned and stretched his arms over his head. “Right now?”
“Yeah, we have to get them!”
Aaron huffed a laugh and dropped his arms. “Well in that case.” He paused and turned to Robert. “Unless you’d rather have a go?”
Robert shook his head rapidly. “Nah, me and Molly are good here, we'll save the table. Go crash some cars, boy racer.”
“Come on, then.”
As they headed in the direction of the bumper cars, Aaron looked back to see Vic appearing at Robert’s side, looking a little tipsy as she sat down next to him. By the time they were standing in the queue for the ride with Cain and Isaac, he could see the Sugden siblings had been joined by Ryan and his girls, plus Diane and Harry, all of them piling onto the table and surrounding them. Robert was laughing at something Ryan was saying, eyes crinkling. When he saw Aaron watching, he shot him a small wave. He looked happy and content, and the sight of it made something warm settle in Aaron's chest.
It wasn't his first Pride, but it was the best one he'd had so far.
“Dad,” Seb piped up, grabbing his attention. “It's our turn”
“Alright, let’s show Cain and Isaac how it's done.”
