I hope this can be the final post in all this. pages: 15.

(^^^None of the really s*xual stuff was started by myself or my mutuals, I don't think. Please read with caution. In the attacks, it was brought up and had to be addressed.)

As a lot of you know, there’s been discourse surrounding my friends and I. Well, three of my friends and myself.

It seems to stem from a post made about two months ago, by a user who has apologized and taken it down. The post vagued me and made it seem like I said things I did not.

The things implied I said were said by other users on this site. But not myself. admittedly, that post began a huge mental health spiral. The day the post was up, I was having panic attacks and begging for the post to be taken down in the comments.

Eventually, Octo had enough of letting the post stay as it was, and watching me panic. So Octo reblogged it with a 1558 word response. It reads as follows(no editing. Post was copy+pasted into google docs);

“ There is a lot wro ng going on here. And I will admit, you got a bit of "Momma Bear" coming out of me from this. Please, feel free to ignore this. Anything else will be after the cut. Please feel free to look at the original comments and come to your own conclusions on the matter.

My apologies if I switch from using OP to directly addressing the OP.

I would like to preface anything I say here by saying I don't like getting involved with discourse like this. However, in this situation the individual referred to in this post has been stressed out and otherwise affected by this. I would prefer for this to have been a private matter, however the decision for that isn't mine, and never has been. OP, you can get mad at me all you like for not taking your side here, but please hear me out first.

I would first like to address the matter of the post itself. I am aware OP apologized for the R 18 thing, however it still causes an issue here.

Your main point is that a person who writes gore cannot complain about others writing R-18 content because they're equivalent. My arguments are as follows.

1: I disagree with the main premise of this argument. It either condemns both or neither of the two actions. This post doesn't actually let me know which of the ways you choose. If your argument is correct however, then you either are okay with R-18 content, or not. If not, why do you like danganronpa? Or furthermore, a Fanganronpa that is arguably worse than the cannon games?

Either way, this point is moot because the person who you're addressing never stated they disliked NSFW/R-18 content. Feel free to not like it! But this post is unnecessary and causes additional discourse for no reason.

2: You address this post to "SDRA2 Fandom," however this post is about a small group of creators, ones that likely don't make up a majority of the fandom on this site.

And this is a big one.

THIS POST SHOULD NOT INCLUDE SUCH SPECIFIC DETAILS ABOUT YOUR SUBJECT.

Effectively what you are doing is instead of addressing a matter privately, you made it public, called out one specific user by being vague about them, assumed their age, and implied things that aren't true about them. Even if your original point is correct, this behavior isn't acceptable.

Now, I would also like to address the comments below this post.

What first occurs is that the person being addressed in the post explains their past history with OP, and that they don't get mad at R-18 content, they get mad at people fetishizing things about them.

OP then responds by saying, "The issue isn't about ignoring and moving on, its that you; like 14/15 is writing extreme and graphic gore, like that is fucking concerning."

Simply put, this isn't the original point of your post.

Also, people around that age do tend to get involved in those kinds of things. Anecdotally, I became a fan of the Hunger Games around that time. For a less personal example, see creepy pastas, the SCP foundation, ETC. Or Danganronpa itself! Yes, there are adult fans in all of those things, but there are also minors who end up liking dark and creepy things. Again, it could be personally off-putting to OP, but that will be addressed later.

What happens next is that the user being addressed describes their experience getting into darker, more gory things. Further emphasizing why this entire thing should have been handled privately. Then, a mutual friend finds the post and comments. They did not handle the situation the best, I will admit. This leads OP to comment,

"You are literally 14 year olds writing fanganronpa gore; i’m sure the 4chan guro board would love to have you. Considering the previous comments here; you’re still talking about me two days later, while I haven’t even thought about you. It’s actually super flattering you think about me this much!"

Again, OP is assuming the age of the user. If OP is not assuming and thus know from a different source, then OP is potentially releasing private information publicly. I should not have to explain why this is a problem.

For those who don't know, like myself, the 4-chan guro board is about gory anime art. I don't see what the problem is here. This person likes to write about gore, and so a place that accepts it would be happy to have them? Is the gore there worse than what they write?

OP, they're still talking about you days later because this post was a public call out of what should be a private matter at best, and at worst is a non-issue.

No, I will not let that go! This post caused stress and anxiety in the user, and OP should recognize that simply does not go away that quickly.

The user then says again what got them into gore, leading into this comment from OP

"the R18 thing was unrelated, and yes I will actually apologize for that. I am sorry for getting you caught up in that situation. However the issue isn’t only that, You do realize that what you say with “no child warning” is directly pointing out my issue, you are a kid sharing this with other minors, this is no better than the vorekado situation. You’re coming into adult spaces as a kid and sharing this among other kids "

First, thank you for the apology. I hope that you see why that is an issue.

However, I must address this point.

"you are a kid sharing this with other minors"

Right now, you are advocating for the self-censorship of someone because a minor might see it. Let's ignore the age of the poster. Should someone be barred from writing gore, drawing R-18+ images, etc because a kid might see it? The answer to that is no.

It is not up to a content creator, author, artist, etc. To not do something because the wrong person might see it. It is up to either the individual user or their guardian to control what content they come across.

If this sounds familiar OP, it is why the point of you simply blocking the content and moving on is mentioned over and over. Because it is not up to them to police themselves because another person finds themselves unable to control their feed.

The content creator IS responsible for making sure the appropriate tags, labels, etc. are on the work so that a person can filter it out. Which, this user has done so.

I do not know of the "vorekado" situation to comment on it.

One last point before we continue is that Tumblr isn't an "adult space." The minimum age to have a Tumblr is 13. Hardly an adult by that point. If you;re trying to argue that gore itself should be R-18, then you're fighting an uphill battle to convince anyone.

After this comment, the user says the matter should've been private, and says that OP vagued their posts, causing them anxiety. This leads to these two comments.

"Not what I meant, im saying that you’re still exposing this in a group of minors; which you yourself are."

"Okay youre friend really doesn’t matter here since all they can do is insult me, the problem isnt tags or trigger warnings. Its the fact you’re doing it in the first place. Youre still a kid coming into these adult spaces. Gore is a fetish. "

Before we continue, personally, I am 20. Not a minor.

First, explain to me why a minor writing gore is a problem. Other than "It's gross."

Again, Tumblr is not an adult space.

And finally, something being a fetish isn't an indication of how "adult" something is. Newsflash from someone who's been on the internet a long time.

Everything can be a fetish to someone.

The user isn't joining a gore fetish space, they joined a writing space for Danganronpa Another fancreations. Not everything is going to be light and fluffy, especially regarding the subject matter.

The user then says they've never seen anyone fetishizing their work. OP also says that their posts are not fetish works. I would also like to add, I haven't seen it either, and don't believe this is a space where that occurs often. This leads to this comment.

"I can’t help you with this. Genuinely you are clueless. You really are; extreme gore can be a fetish, and youre putting yourself into the “disgusting” gore community yourself. Danganronpa doesn’t have shit like this. This is just literal snuff for the sake of it. "

That's not a problem at all. You don't need a reason to write or draw anything specifically. Most of their writings are labelled as writing practices.

TLDR: This post shouldn't have been made. It should have been a private message at that. Many of OP's points are personal opinions and don't hold up to scrutiny. OP, the person who wrote this post has politely asked you to either edit it or take it down. I would recommend you do so.”

Due to both the original post, and Octo’s reblog, taken down, I cannot share what I said in my 40 comments. That may seem like harassment, but this was a post vaguing me and causing a mental health strain I hadn’t had since either May or June of 2020.

However, most of my comments were along the lines of me explaining why I wrote it, and why it should be handled privately.

When the fetish of g0re was brought up, I was confused but still panicked. I had never heard of such a fetish before. I didn't know that it was a fetish .

The “v0rekado” thing is likely in reference to mikadosannouji/ressysauce, someone who had recently been revealed as a bad person at the time. And not because of the fetish-y art, but because they had doxxed someone and celebrated someone’s potential s**cide. If I remember correctly, ressysauce created v0re art on their old tumblr account.

Comparing something where the user posting likely knew it was a fetish, to something where the user posting didn’t know is a fetish, feels off.

After Octo’s response, the original post was taken down, the OP messaged me and apologized. At first, I felt the apology wasn’t genuine, and asked them if it was. We got into an argument about it, and I blocked them.

Eventually, I decided to accept their apology anyway, and unblocked them.

We thought this would be all, but then a proship based account caused Nana’s friend to have a panic attack. They then contacted Nana through asks, alerting him of his friend’s breakdown and saying they were concerned.

Nana states he already knew, but unblocks the account, and talks with them. Nana eventually gets overwhelmed and can’t handle any more of the conversation. So, he blocked the account once more.

The reason Nana’s friend had the breakdown was due to one of the things they said being screenshotted and put in the proship accounts introduction post. It has now been removed, thankfully.

(This is an important part of the discourse, and I am not trying to stir something up again, please understand that.)

Nana removed all his posts related to the proship account discourse, hoping that would calm it down. It seemed so, even though the account mentioned Nana a few times after.

Eventually, that account got downed, and the four of us let out a sigh of relief. It seemed to finally be over.

Then, a new account came into the mix, barely a day old when they started the accusations.

The accusations? Nana was a proshipper himself. The base of these were that Nana used to like Sanniuri, at a time it was widely shipped in the fandom. Nana stopped shipping it after realizing its toxicity. Another was shipping LeoSaya, or having an inkling of an interest in the ship NaeJunko, or doing an animatic for a ship between two underage characters.

In fact, a large number of tumblr users also use ao3. It’s a platform for fanfictions and sometimes original works. It’s a platform for writing.

There was also the argument that because he uses ao3, he’s a proshipper. Which is stupid, honestly. Would you argue that BiggestGuadiestPatronuses is a proshipper? They use ao3.

Using the same logic as done with the ao3 thing, it would be that everyone on tumblr is a proshipper, because tumblr has proship content on there! Or youtube, or instagram, or wattpad… Literally being on any website similar to the ones listed, would say you’re a proshipper.

So, that's why the logic here is dumb.

Next, an edit Nana did of Junkan was mentioned. The ship is known as unhealthy, but the ask explained it as an AU. Nana did it, and knows the ship is unhealthy. He did it because it was requested, and it could quite possibly be an AU where it’s healthy. Some could argue that doesn’t make the ship okay, but that would be something to bring up to the requester. A request being done doesn’t condone attacking.

LeoSaya is a ship I’ve seen many people like in my time in the fandom. Often, it’s people against proshipping. You argue that, because they tried to kill each other in canon, it’s toxic. So, by definition, every killer x victim ship is toxic? Except the few with confirmed feelings?

It’s a killing game. Stress is high and they want to go home. Of course they’re gonna try the only way out.

Due to the whole memory wipe thing, they don’t remember each other. But they have known each other for years, yes? And I do believe they would have gotten along beforehand.

NaeJunko was explained by a meme. I haven’t seen it myself, but it went along the lines of “loser boyfriend”.

The old Sanniuri reblogs and shit, were when he didn’t know the ship was toxic. You may bring up the tags on some of his fics, how there’s sanniuri tagged. I noticed it, too, and brought it up to him. He explained it with;

(And before someone comes after me about the “horny” comment; it was a joke based off of IRLkado’s reaction to finding out more about Utsuro.)

But Nana let me know. He doesn’t ship AIkado x Nikei, because we know how toxic that shit is. But about IRLkado, we often only know he’s some sort of computer nerd and he wants to bring Utsuro back.

The shipping Kotoko x Monaca thing is… Well, the person with the accusations calls the ship “pedophillic”. Which is confusing.

Pedophillia is defined by www.sciencedirect.com as “A persistent interest in prepubescent children as evidenced by an adult’s sexual fantasies, urges, and goal-directed sexual behavior.” I wish to know what part of this definition suits the ship.

The original accuser brings up something else, stating Nana as lying about being a minor. Sure, this could be seen as acceptable, as there are people out there who lie about that. However, when there’s many people who have stated Nana as a minor.

When there’s someone who has posted about meeting Nana in person, and has attested to Nana being a minor before- it brings your claims into question.

Nana and I have met before. We share a birthday, and I am only 8 hours older. And some of my followers can attest to me being a high schooler- it was on my now deleted intro post. Octo can also attest to it- having helped me before with high school math.

Another thing mentioned was the fact that I supposedly write untagged gore. At the time of the first post connected to my friends and I, this would have been true. For the simple reason of; I didn't know about tumblr tag filtering. I thought that putting a cw/tw above the cut would’ve been enough, as I believed that somebody would at least read those before clicking “Continue reading.”

When this was brought up by the first post that vagued me, I went back and added a gore tag to all of my fics containing it for filtering. And, I even attempted to remember to put a tw gore tag on each one.

However, this was brought up again, with the same reason- it being untagged. So, I was upset. I went back and added cw gore tags to all of the posts containing it. I was upset, because I had already tagged it with the gore tag, and thought it would be enough. Then, I posted this rant;

“What more do you guys need me to ADD to TW my gore writing properly. I often put TW for gore in the tags. (Of sorts, it'll say what happens in it) most of them have gore in the fuck title. And I do my best to add a #tw gore tag on every single one.

WHAT MORE DO YOU FUCKING WANT FROM ME.

I can add. "cw gore" tag, too! Have you ever fucking heard of filtering!

This is a Danganronpa fan game, dammit! There will ALWAYS be fics of stuff you don't like.

I put trigger warnings of the fuck content. It's on YOU if you still read it. I'm not going to stop writing something I find interesting in a way, because THE WRONG PEOPLE MIGHT STUMBLE UPON IT.

ARTISTS DO THE SAME. THEY DON'T CHANGE THEIR ART BECAUSE THE WRONG PERSON MIGHT SEE IT.

I admit, I should’ve been kinder during this rant. But, this had been going on for months at this point. Sure, an immature reaction- but one you should expect from some minor who’s been under extreme stress for months.

When seeing this rant, Octo and Nana immediately began telling me to take it down. I was still upset, and didn’t want to. Saying we were being sitting ducks, and that we needed to fight back or we’d seem to be accepting the allegations as true.

Eventually, I calmed down. I didn’t want to take the post down, so I went to my closest friend- who shall remain unnamed- and they advised me to copy + paste the rant into a google doc and then delete the tumblr post, so I’d still have the words in that as my way of outing my anger.

So I deleted it.

During this time, I messaged the creator of the original post- the one that vague me. We’ll call them M for the rest of this.

I was distressed and unsure of how to handle this, so I went to M and explained everything. They didn’t really care for my panicking, but were at the very least understanding. They gave a tiny bit of advice, and let me talk. That helped a lot. So, I must thank M.

I had blocked one of the people spreading the proship accusations way before the drama, for reasons I can’t quite remember, but unblocked them to send an ask in a way to explain things. It reads;

“Hi there. You must dislike me, seeing as i think people have submitted to you about me supposedly not tagging certain fics of mine. Please, make sure no one harasses the focus of this ask. And, before anything, please read this;

I do tag my gore fics. I've tagged them with gore, tw gore, and cw gore tags. All three of the tags. I think I might have forgotten to put those tags on my splatoon fics, which I will do right after submitting this ask. There is also a TW above the cut for almost all of my stories, unless there doesnt seem to be something that needs to be tagged. I will tag stuff if asked to.

Now, onto the reason i am sending this; Nana, catgirl-izuru, whatever he is known by to you, has been accused of being a proshipper. i'm sure you've seen this.

In the past, Nana has reblogged art for Sanniuri, a popular toxic ship in the community. He didn't realize it was unhealthy at the time. "But on his ao3 fic!! he has a tag for it!!" you might say, which I can explain;

It's IRLkado and nikei. IRLkado, we dont have any information about, other than he's a bit weird about Utsuro. Nana has a version of IRLkado in his head, one that's *much* better than AIkado.

Another reason for them supposedly being a proshipper is... reblogging art of Leosaya. A semi-popular ship in DR fandom. I saw quite a few people shipping it when I first joined. It's said to be toxic because Leon killed Sayaka/Sayaka tried to kill Leon.

Where to start on that... Most of the ships that I've seen in the DR fandom are killer x victim. A lot of those aren't called toxic, or proship. I've seen people ship Hifumi x Celeste, and Kazuichi x Sonia, and not get attacked. So, why is Nana getting attacked for shipping Leon and Sayaka?

Is it because people are siding with the adult proshipper who harassed Nana for about 2 weeks? The proshipper who claimed to want to protect minors, but at the same time harassed one when xe blocked their side acc?

next; "he makes edits for problematic ships!! like junkan!" Talking with him, you could understand; Those were requests for an AU. they were moodboards for something that happened in the AU.

I, and others, have talked to Nana, about why it could be seen as problematic to make an AU in order to ship something problematic. About why it's dangerous.

And, about Naejunko, I believe that is also some kind of AU, or there's an idea that they're enemies in canon, while shown to somehow care about each other. If this isn't a good thing, I will talk to Nana.

next; Ao3.

Ao3 is a fanfic site, and Nana was called problematic for using it? And good amount of tumblr users have it, including Gaud. Even if we hate the content on there, we can't control it. Any other fanfiction site will have it. Wattpad, fanfiction.net, you name it. So this claim makes no sense.

Finally, if you're wondering why I'm so defensive of Nana; He and I have met IRL. He is clearly a minor.

This never got answered, and I got blocked. I found out later that, apparently, it seemed as though I was accusing them of being a proshipper- due to the last bit. It was not an attempt to call them a proshipper, but rather remind them and/or their followers to be a decent person.

This was also written before the thing with the proship account was completely resolved, so I still mentioned it and talked shit about the account owner. I don't do it anymore, as it has been resolved and such a thing could lead to another drama.

After Octo told the accuser off, the situation seemed to finally be over. We were still suspicious, of course, but finally thought we could relax.

Then, a new anon went to Nana, and told him to off himself. And I don’t care if you don't like someone, that is never an okay thing to do. Even if they’re a confirmed terrible person. You’re a piece of shit if you do this.

Nana didn’t know what it was about, so he mentioned the proship account.

Someone told the proship account about this- which would mean that one of the proship account’s followers is likely stalking nana’s page.

To avoid another drama, Octo talked with the proship account. Both sides were explained, and the proship account agreed not to bother us anymore, and to remove the screenshot from their intro post. For this, I must thank them.

Now, we have a new anon. Saying Nana must be proship because he reblogged something that originally came from a proshipper?

Nana can’t be expected to check the profile of everyone he reblogs from. He simply agreed with a few of the things in the post, hence the reblogging.

The whole antiship - proship thing is exhausting. Nana nor I try to identify as either. Antiship is often associated with harassment. Proship is… Well, that.

However, during this whole thing, people claiming to be proship have harassed Nana. Going against their thing or whatever that only antishippers harass.

Please, just leave us alone and make up your mind on if you want to be like what you hate or not.

And let us have our fun. Nobody but my friends and I were named, as to prevent any attacks towards them. But just let us be us.

Now, if I may, I’m going to either go to sleep or work on my essay on Rei Mekaru.

(Final note to the person accusing Nana of being proship; Surely if you were hunting for evidence on his page for that long, you would’ve found his preferred pronouns? Honestly, it slightly seems you were using his unwanted pronouns to be mean, until you got called out for it.)

Slider wakes up, and the other side of the bed is cold.

He rolls over sleepily to remain in his own body heat, staunchly avoiding the area of the bed that once contained his boyfriend, then fights against the comforter as it tangles around his legs. Propping himself up on his elbow, Slider uses his free hand to rub absently at his eyes as he calls, "Ice?"

"hkt'SHHu!"

Slider sighs to himself as he finally opens his eyes, groaning a bit as he's met with the light that streams in from the windows. Ice sneezing in the autumn is never a good sign; the only thing that really gets to him around this time of year is the leftover ragweed pollen from the summer and dust. "Bless you."

"Thangks," Ice breathes, sniffling. His voice is already laden with congestion, Slider notes, and he forces himself to sit up against the headboard, finally getting a good look at his boyfriend as he walks into the room, eyes red and puffy, even from a distance.

"Shit, honey," he blurts, surging forward to the foot of their bed. "What happened?"

Ice's breath hitches for a second before settling back to normal, and he rubs at his nose aggressively. "Ragked the leaves," he explains, and then every piece of the puzzle falls neatly into place.

"I could've done that," Slider protests, brow furrowing. Before he can even finish the sentence, though, Ice is shaking his head.

"You were stdill asleep," he argues, then gasps. "ukT'SHH!"

"Bless you. I still could've raked them, Ice, if you'd just woken me up. You're going to be all sneezy and miserable for the rest of the day." He slides out of the bed, moving to stand next to Ice in his T-shirt and boxers and thumbs at Ice's eyelashes to wipe away an allergic tear. "Your eyes are swelling."

Ice just sniffles, rubbing harshly at his nose again as he presses his lips together. "I kdnow. I jusdt wandted to help."

"Aw, honey," he murmurs sympathetically, rerouting his finger across Ice's cheekbone and towards his sinuses. His boyfriend learns into the contact, posture relaxing slightly when his thumb presses into the side of his nose. "Does that feel good?"

"Yeah," Ice sighs, and Slider starts rubbing in circles, massaging his sinuses gently. "Oh... hold on."

He draws back, twisting away from Slider and pressing his face deep into his shoulder. "kt'SCH! TSHH! h'kSHuu!"

"Bless you, Ice." He kisses him lightly, then goes back to rubbing at his sinuses. "I'm serious, let me do it next time."

"You were sleeping," he tries to argue, but the point is moot.

Slider sighs, then moves to pull Ice's shirt off. He's already covered in whatever shit the leaves have kicked up; there's really no harm in dismantling him so he can take a shower. All the same, it sends Ice's breaths into wild hitches once more, and Slider pauses with the shirt in his hands. "Going to sneeze again?"

"Noht yet..." Ice breathes, shaking his head as if it'll dislodge the tickle in his nose. "Keep goigg. I'll be fide."

"Alright," Slider murmurs, getting it over Ice's head and doing his best to avoid letting it touch more of his body then necessary. His chest is already starting to break out in a rash, just a bit, but it's enough that he's concerned. "Almost there," he soothes.

Ice nods, but ends up brushing his nose against the shirt fabric. Normally, he's not sensitive at all, but when he's already itchy and losing control and the shirt is covered in leaf bits?

It's more than enough to set him off again.

"h'uHD'TSH!" Slider can hear the attempt to stifle in that one, and the way Ice gives up midway through, clearly seeing that there's no point. "ut'SHHH! KSHH! KSHH! huh'SHH-TSHH!" Ice pants for a second, catching his breath, and yanks the shirt the rest of the way off, revealing just how irritated he is. God, his entire expression is still twisted with the need to sneeze, and Slider feels himself melt in sympathy as his breath hitches yet again.

"You're not done, are you," he murmurs, standing and taking the shirt away from Ice before forcing his boyfriend to lean into him, pressing his face gently into his shoulder. "It's alright, honey, I've got you. Just clear all that shit out from your system, okay?"

Ice only gasps and sneezes again, this time, directly into Slider's collarbone. The first one is muffled, but harsh enough that his entire body shakes with the force of it against Slider's. "hmp'TSH! ut'SCH! h'USHH'uh!"

"Bless you, honey," Slider says, pulling away and ignoring the damp spot on the shoulder of his sleep shirt. "Come on, let's start that shower for you." He tugs Ice toward the bathroom.

"I'mb sorry," Ice murmurs, a pink flush beginning to creep up his neck towards his cheeks. Slider only kisses him below his ear, right at the sharp hinge of his jaw, even as he says, "Thatd was gross."

Slider kisses him again, moving a little closer to his mouth. "Don't apologize," he says, "it's normal. And further proof that you should let me rake the yard next time, instead of trying to do it yourself."

Ice laughs a little at that, sniffling while Slider starts the shower. While it looks like he might be done, Slider knows it's only a temporary state; with the way his sneezes have progressed from singles to entire fits, Ice definitely has some left in him.

"Fide," he concedes, although begrudgingly. "You cand ragke the yard fromb now ond."

"Ice, I hate to say this, but I can hardly understand you. Get in the shower once it's ready," Slider says, grinning when his boyfriend only flips him the bird then strips out of his pants and boxers. "I want to take a look at those hives, too, once you're done."

"You're so demandigg," Ice teases, but obliges. Slider leaves to change into day clothes, grateful that they still have shore leave for another week before they head back out.

He can hear as Ice dissolves into another rapid fit while in the shower, this one far less merciful than the last as the steam wreaks relieving havoc on Ice's sinuses. He sighs to himself, shaking his head in disbelief. Leave it to his boyfriend to do something he knows will set off his allergies just to make Slider's day a tad easier.

God, what did he do to deserve him?

Aizawa Shota was kind of a massive dick.

So, another long post, this one shit talking one of my favorite characters in MHA. The one came about when I was reading a fic shortly after I woke up, and sleepy dipshit me decided to make a multi-paragraph comment talking about how pre-Kamino Aizawa was a shit teacher.

Don’t worry, this hurts me too.

In cannon, Aizawa is both kind of a dick, and also kind of a bad teacher.

For one, the way he treats the students. Sure, he puts his life on the line for them in the USJ, but how much of that is genuine care and how much of that is because he's a hero? On the first day, he threatens them with expulsion if they fail a useless test. Like, yeah, seeing their limits and all that jazz, but how the fuck does throwing a ball count to skills a hero needs? Potential force?

For two, he calls Midoriya useless on the first day. Sure, it's in tandem with Mido breaking his bones, but that leads to him breaking even more bones! Permanently scaring and disfiguring his hands! Why did he never even try to coach Mido? Why did no red flags go up at the kid with the bullshit OP quirk being fidgety and anxious at the slightest sound, overwhelmingly bad at socializing, and generally being bad at interacting with adults, having no control over his quirk? I don't know about you, but that seems like a big red flag to me.

One of the popular theories I've read about Aizawa's disliking towards Midoriya is because he thought he was an egotistical kid who never trained his quirk out of laziness. If that is true, than that makes Aizawa an even worse teacher. You have to bring this issue up with the person, not just let it go and hope the kid gets better!

For three, he's a bit hypocritical. He shit talks the entrance exams, then put's the students trough a test that does the exact same thing but without fighting, and expels whoever is last, or who doesn't have enough *potential*. Sure, he gets them back in class a week later, but from what little I know about Japan's school system, expulsion is a really bad for of stress. How many students have just up and quit everything because of Aizawa? How many went to vigilantism or villainy and died? How many just dropped dead? How many were pushed away by family and friends because they were expelled on the first day? How many were taken by villains because they heard of the expelled UA hero course student?

That's not how you treat fifteen year olds. No matter the profession.

At this point, All Might is a better teacher. Sure, he has no idea what he's doing. Sure, his successor breaks his bones all the time. But can you blame the man? Because of him being the number one hero, he can barely make meaningful relationships with people because of villains trying to target them. At least he's trying to help his students, which is more than I can say about early cannon Aizawa. All Might gives his students advice (even though Most of it was with a little help with YaoMomo), puts them in a real world situation that can actually judge their skills better than running fucking laps, and is actually nice to the kids.

TL;DR, Aizawa is actually a pretty bad teacher in cannon, and is probably to blame for Midoriya's arms being fucked up by not trying to help a student in need, and All Might is a better teacher.

Also, while I’m at it, what the FUCK Recovery Girl?

“Won’t heal anymore injuries from One For All.”

That’s your incentive to make Midoriya learn better? This is One For Fucking All we’re talking about! The smallest mistake can obliterate the user’s body! Midoriya fucking sneezes while practicing with it, his entire face becomes damn mist! And who knows if Midoriya, in his years of abuse from peers and adults, takes that as “I won’t heal you anymore”.

God damnit UA this is not how you teach.

EDIT: Guess who just remembered that Aizawa straight up tells Mido to learn control or he’ll be useless, then turns around and does jack shit about Kaminari.

EDIT 2: Guess who just realized that EDIT 1 is a moot point.

Episode recap/review: Walker 1.14

I didn't expect to recap 1.14 and yet here I am, still avoiding my unfinished Summergen fic. I'm actually writing this in real time, as I watch the episode. So for once I'm not pretending I don't know what happens. I literally don't know.

We begin with Cordell and Grandpa clearing up the crime scene. How much do I love Cordell saying "Daddy?" A lot. And not in that way, you perverts. It just really brings out the Texan.

Liam is in bed, recuperating. He gets a call (note that he calls himself William professionally, which is news to me, and I like it for whatever reason) from someone asking for a comment, which he starts to angrily refuse before Gramma Walker grabs his phone and hangs up. Gramma Walker going all Mama Bear for Liam is also interesting, and unexpected. But Liam says "I can take care of myself" and she says "No, you can't. None of you boys can." And then looks sadly out the window, where Cordell and Grandpa are taking down the crime scene tape. I just have to think "none" and not "both" means she's thinking of poor dead Hoyt, who she obviously loved like a son, if not more so. (More evidence for the Hoyt is her lovechild file? Maybe.)

Geri shows up, wearing an unnecessary cowboy hat and Hoyt's old jacket. She's bearing Hoyt's last will and testament, written on a bar coaster! Oh, my heart. And in case you can't read it:

If I get shivved in the shower or some old horse kicks me upside the head. For real Liam stamp it and everything - I leave everything to Geri/"Geraldine Broussard"/angle [sic] face sweet lips etc. So that plot I bought over in Tanglewood is for her and whatever I got in my pockets or elsewhere. See ya in the next life.

Angle face!

I'm not sure this would stand up in court, since he didn't even sign his last name, although it is witnessed by William Walker. Anyway, it's a moot point, because the land Hoyt intended to give Geraldine "Angle Face" Broussard is transferring to new owners, effective tomorrow. Which makes no sense. The deal fell apart because he died, and yet it's so soon after his death that the police tape is still up. New owners wouldn't be in the picture that quickly. Reverting to previous owners, because it was owner-financed? Sure. But not new owners. (Whatever, Caranfindel. Move it along.) She asks Cordell to go with her to gather his personal belongings. And to bring the kids. Hmmm, let's see how Stella can mess this up. (Tanglewood is 71 miles from Austin. Of course I looked it up.)

But first, Cordell has to sign paperwork to begin his leave of absence. So he didn't actually intend to quit. I mean, we all knew he'd be back, but I kind of thought he was, at the time, intending to quit for good. Does Connie the HR person have a big old crush on him? There is hand touching and deep, serious gazing.

Touch him, Connie. Touch him for those of us who cannot.

Micki is sitting right outside the conference room where he signs his papers but still acts surprised that he's in the building. Did she not smell the rosemary mint shampoo as he walked by? He thanks her for the flowers and apologizes for not calling her back. And then cancels their lunch plans so he can go off with Geri and the kids.

Someone said this on Tumblr, and I think it bears repeating here. It's interesting comparing Cordell's grief, over his wife and now his best friend, to Sam's grief. Cordell is clearly deeply affected, and is also clearly moving on. Sam is just unhinged.

Elsewhere. The gang stops for lunch and reminisces about Hoyt dressed as Santa, wearing assless chaps. Well. That's memorable. (Also, I know people who did the whole leaving horse manure and pretending it's reindeer poop thing. Some people are just a lot more into Santa than I was.) Trevor (Travis? Whatever) called Stella. She's apparently avoiding him. Probably a good call, sis. Maybe the only one you've made in 14 episodes. (To be fair, I didn't watch the first four.)

Micki shares tacos with her boyfriend, whose name I can never remember, having been stood up by Cordell. She tells him Cordell seemed "off," which is great now, Micki. Why didn't you pay more attention to that feeling last week? The BF thinks Micki herself might be off, because she misses her partner. And she calls him family. Captain What's His Face comes to talk to Trey (that's his name, dammit) and asks if he knows a guy who goes to the same physical therapist's office. Friends, when I've done PT, I don't even know people who go to my therapist, let alone just go to someone in the same office. But maybe folks in Austin are just friendlier than they are round these parts. Oh, wait. The guy is missing, and was last seen in a heated discussion with Trey? What's up with that, Trey?

Tanglewood. Cordell asks the nice lady (realtor? owner?) about Hoyt's "personal affects," and she says "they are probably out grazing." Because Hoyt's personal effects are four horses and a llama. Which Geri owns now. "Where am I going to board four horses and a llama?" she asks. Cordell is oddly befuddled (and adorably, cause y'all know how I feel about befuddled Jared), as if he didn't live on a ranch. With horses. The family business, remember? The kids are entranced. I would be too. It's a damn cute llama. One of the mares actually nursed the llama, so they're family. (Watch out for falling anvils.)

Micki's house. Trey says the "heated discussion" was the missing guy showing him a judo move. Captain asks Trey to ride along and help him investigate, and poor partnerless Micki asks if she can come with.

Tanglewood. Apparently Hoyt's personal affects also included gear for the four horses, because everyone is saddled up. Geri doesn't seem like an experienced rider - she keeps her hand on the pommel of the saddle, which I always heard was a rube move. (At least she's not clutching the saddle horn. No shade. It's hard not to. It's a perfect handle and it's just right there.) Cordell, of course, rides perfectly, as he does everything perfectly.

Everything except his job. And raising his kids. But do I care about those things? Not so much.

Geri thinks the llama looks unwell. What is she, a llama expert? A veterinarian? And what are they doing on this trail ride anyway - taking the herd back to the Walker ranch? It's 71 miles away! It's an hour and a half driving! How will they get the truck? Why didn't Cordell just say "let's go back to the ranch and get Daddy's cattle trailer?" WHY.

(No one cares. No one but you thinks about these things.)

Stella is on her phone, but it turns out she's (allegedly) re-reading Hoyt's last text, not chatting with friends. And then she says she was "responsible for everything." Oh, wait. We're going there? Stella is finally going to face the music? Cordell says it's not her fault, but they're interrupted by the llama, who apparently is in distress. Cordell wants to leave him at a random homestead. Permanently? Like, "excuse me, ma'am, but can you take this llama?" Or just while they get the horses home? I dunno.

August doesn't like this, because the llama and the horses are family. Geri distracts him by claiming Hoyt wanted him to have the jacket she's wearing, although I find this rather dubious, because why did she wait so long to mention it? Why is she wearing it herself? It's a lucky jacket he won from a tarot card reader and card hustler named The Mystifying Mehar, who was "infamous for getting out of trouble because of that jacket." Cordell then asks Geri to go off with the kids while he hangs back and tries to ditch the llama. Oh no, Cordell, don't do that. He's family!

Back at the ranch, Grandpa chases off some more journalists. He also ignores Gramma's concern about his cancer.

Trail ride. We skipped the whole bit where Cordell found someone willing to take in a goddamn llama, caught up with his kids, and told them what he did. They're mad that he wouldn't even try, and then Stella impulsively rides off, almost falling into a revine.

Team Sassyboots 2.0 questions the missing guy's wife. Turns out he left a note. Doesn't sound like he's as missing as they thought. He said he would "fix everything," i.e., their upcoming foreclosure. They check his workshop and find evidence that he was a military contractor, and apparently this means he should have no money problems whatsoever, because they don't understand how money works. His gun safe is empty, so they figure he's on some kind of "black ops" job. And if it's going to be complete by Monday, I assume it's something local, and not a military operation.

Walker Ranch. Someone who is Liam's "political opponent" comes to take care of him? And he's bringing barbeque? Is it poisoned? Gramma says Liam can't have barbecue because he's on bedrest, as if one had anything to do with the other. And... Grandpa wants to go mushroom hunting with her? Is that what the kids call it these days?

Trail ride. Cordell found someone to keep the horses. Temporarily? I'm still confused. Stella and Geri talk about Hoyt, and Stella asks about her forgiving him. Thinking about some forgiveness toward your own bad boy, Stella? She says "the two of you were always kind of like the dream to me," which is odd considering they were off-and-on, while her parents were very much on, and definitely seem more like couple goals. But okay. Stella confesses again that she is responsible, and Geri says "you let love in, maybe; that's your worse crime." I wonder if Stella blames herself for the fake truck crash that started the whole domino effect, or if she even realizes that's what happened. Obviously Geri wouldn't. Hmmm, I wonder what August thinks about all this?

Walker Ranch. Whoever this political opponent is, he must be a family friend, because he gave a toast at Cordell and Emily's rehearsal dinner. "Hey, when did your brother have such long hair," he asks, looking at a picture of the happy couple. Liam is growing facial hair again. I like it. Opponent suggests the spicy barbecue will put hair on Liam's chest and Liam tosses it aside and says "no, dammit, after I spent all that time waxing?" And Liam might drop out of whatever race he's in. I don't really care about that part. Let's talk more about Liam's chest.

I love that they can use actual Padalecki family photos as Cordell and Emily photos. No bad Photoshop needed!

Team Sassyboots 2.0. I don't really care about this missing guy either. Skipping it. You know, I understand this is meant to be an ensemble show, and Jared Padalecki and his stupid pretty face and long legs are not going to be in every scene. But Micki working a case with her boss and her boyfriend just bothers me and I don't want to be a part of it.

Trail ride. They're bedding down in the barn for the night? What the fuck? Where are they? Why didn't they just drive home? I'm so confused! Cordell and Geri talk about Hoyt some more. Cordell makes an awkward comment about "us together" and then amends it to mean all of us together, as in you and me and the kids camping right now, not, like, you and me together together, and then does a little eyebrow thing like whoo, good job, talked your way out of that one. NO, CORDELL, YOU ARE NOT AS SMOOTH AS YOU THINK YOU ARE. Anyway. There's a lot of guilt about poor dead Hoyt. Cordell tells Geri her name is still on the Sidestep lease (lease? I thought they owned it?), as if being part owner of a bar is always going to be a good thing, with no liability at all. And they don't kiss, for which I am grateful. The horses are really acting up. I hope nothing's happening.

Cordell checks on the horses and apologizes to the mare for leaving the llama behind. He realizes he made the wrong choice. "You know what," he says. "Let's go fix this."

I adore him.

Walker Ranch. Grandpa and Gramma have been mushroom hunting and are now getting silly. Um, what kind of mushrooms did you two find? And then Grandpa says "tonight's about Hoyt," which I do not understand. "I saw the joy he gave you," Grandpa says. Yes, Grandpa, and do you not find that even a little bit fishy? And then he decides to build something.

Trail ride. Cordell went and retrieved his llama! He is precious. I love him so much. He has some pratfalls in the same ravine that almost caught Stella, and then his family shows up and rescues him. (Can I point out that his "a-ha-ha" laugh is the same one we heard when he opened his gift from Dean in "A Very Supernatural Christmas" and I'm not sure it appeared in any other episode?) August offers the Lucky Jacket to use as a llama harness to haul the little guy out of the ravine. Oh, and it turns out the llama is about to give birth.

And, while I'm skipping Team Sassyboots 2.0, it's hard to ignore that Micki is now in a UFC fight. That might have been an interesting story after all. Y'all can fill me in.

Walker Ranch. They're building a little stable. Because this big horse ranch doesn't have enough stables. Liam, who was bedridden to the point of not being able to eat barbeque yesterday, is now helping build. He gets a text from his former fiance, who wants to talk. And Grandpa has decided to treat his cancer. Happy endings all around!

Micki's house. She says she was passive-aggressive with Walker because she's afraid of losing him. I get it, sweetie. He's someone you don't want to lose.

Trail ride. August is carrying the newborn llama, wrapped in the Lucky Jacket. Geri wants to cut out before they get to the ranch. She's going to ride the bus home? Seriously? Isn't her car at the Walker Ranch? She and Cordell talk abou their unfinished business. Yeah, like the fact she was probably involved in your wife's murder? That unfinished business, Geraldine? Grandpa meets them before they get to the ranch and informs them he has a strict no-llama policy on the ranch. But luckily, he just built an alpaca stable. They’re alpacas, not llamas. So, Geri called him, but how did he know they were alpacas? Did she send pictures? I am so confused. Anyway. The new family goes into their new home. They name the baby alpaca Hoyt, of course.

Little Hoyt, guys, he's the sweetest thing.

Breakfast. Political Opponent gives Liam a contribution. Oh, I get it. They're running for the same office, and he thinks Liam will draw votes away from his other opponent. Shrewd. Stella calls Trevor and says she might need to leave the past behind. And you are the past, Trevor. Cordell sees a truck pull up and runs out to meet Micki. She apologizes for holding a grudge over him leaving. She tries to shake hands and he hugs her instead. She thinks they can just be friends now instead of partners, and he says they're not friends, they're family. And then she oohs and aahs over the alpacas, which she recognizes immediately as alpacas and not llamas, and also points out that little Hoyt is actually a girl. Oops. Awkward. Cordell is surprised she can just tell. "Most people can." Yeah, you are the worst rancher's son ever. Then Cordell sees the fence is carved with a memorial to Hoyt. Aw.

He is also the sweetest thing.

So. Less drama than last week. More warmth. A ridiculous B story that was as annoying as giving Cas his own plot. Will I still watch next week? Yeah, probably. I have questions. How did Grandpa know they were alpacas? Where is the baby daddy? Can Cordell and his rancher father really not tell the difference between a male and female alpaca? Why is Geri riding the bus home, when her car is at the Walker's? Why is she avoiding the Walker Ranch? Will August ever get his own plot again?

It's just a shame that this episode didn't have any shout-outs to Supernatural, like the last one did...

Do you find it suspicious when the same fans get into every fansign?

I have had this discussion with many other international fans, not just among mbb but in other fandoms as well, and we can't seem to come to a solid conclusion as to how they always get in, like ALWAYS get in. Especially the foreigners living in Korea and they never tell people exactly how many to buy and what not, and when someone does suddenly get in to one they get all vague and stuff and join the group of "elite" fans (my wording for them cause they all kinda have that better then every international fan who wishes to get in a fansign vibe)...

I have noticed a clique of them appearing on twitter... all the foreigners suddenly chit-chating back and forth, ya know?

I will admit a part me is jealous. But yet how do people get thousands of dollars to spend on albums for these things?(not considering Group Orders) I just... I don't know... it's supposed to be a random draw thing but how so when all the same people get in???

Hello!! djdnsjd I hope you don't think I was ignoring you :/ I haven't been so active recently and I saw this and tried to figure out a good response but I don't think I have one in all honesty.

But I've talked to one of my moots (I'm not sure if they'd want to be named so I won't) but we've though the same things with certain fan accounts. I agree that when you do ask the people who regularly get accepted they give you vauge responses etc. They gate keep the whole process;; I will say some are genuinely strictly just luck and idk maybe they were angels in a past life because dkdndj. But tbh it's okay to be jealous especially because some share every ounce of their calls etc and milk it out until the next fansign and it's like.... ha love that for you and we get it but tone it down. Personally I think they just have a lot of money to spend on albums you know? Like those videos on youtube and op is like "unboxing over a thousand" and you're like oh hell no djdjd. That kinda thing not to mention they could be having other people buy same amount for them etc to add another couple emails to enter etc if that makes sense (?). Idk truthfully how I actually feel about it cause like I said I've talked to a moot about this more than once and we were both really skeptical about it but also like I genuinely don't know ya know? 😓

Big Tech welcomes (some) regulation

You know how the Curse of the Monkey's paw works: a cursed object grants all of your wishes, but in the worst way possible: "be careful what you wish for."

That's what we're living through with Big Tech right now.

I'm all for regulating Big Tech, but not all regulation is created equal. Some regulation can dampen the power of Big Tech, while other regulation can make it permanent, even creating powerful stakeholders for monopolies within government.

Every monopolist's first preference is to be totally unregulated, but every monopolist's SECOND preference is to be regulated in a way that only a monopolist can comply with, thus foreclosing on the possibility of competition from an as-yet-nonexistent upstart.

Look at AT&T, or, as it was known in its monopolistic glory days, "The Bell System." From its earliest days, AT&T was a bully, pulling all kinds of dirty tricks on small carriers and rural telephone co-ops that grew out of the New Deal electricity co-ops.

Regulators and the DoJ often had stern words for AT&T, and at various times, the company was subjected to legal penalties and court-ordered conduct remedies to make it behave.

But this was as far as it all went: no one was going to break up AT&T, take away the power it was abusing. AT&T was too important, "too big to fail," part of the national emergency and security infrastructure.

AT&T leveraged the fact that cops or fire marshalls could (and did) coopt its infrastructure to argue for special rules to protect the Bell System, because if nefarious competitors were to compromise the system, America couldn't fight crime, fires, floods and other disasters.

Which is how it was that AT&T was able to get the government to ban connecting anything to the Bell System that they hadn't manufactured. It's hard to overstate how ridiculous and abusive this rule was, but here are a couple important court cases that give a taste.

Take the Hush-A-Phone, a plastic cup that fit over your mouthpiece to make it harder for people to listen in or reading your lips. AT&T argued that attaching a plastic cup to a phone handset put America itself in danger and must be banned.

Or the Carterfone, a gadget that let you retransmit phone audio over short-range radio, so that ranch-hands could take calls when they were out on the range.

Hush-A-Phone and Carterfone represent the endpoint of AT&T's venality, the instances in which the company overreached so thoroughly that a court finally limited its power. But they are also emblematic of the costs AT&T exacted from its customers.

Before these decisions, AT&T customers had to rent phones, paying for them dozens or hundreds of times over. To make things worse, AT&T used its regulated monopoly status to block innovators, holding back the answering machine, the switchboard and (crucially) the modem.

By 1956, AT&T's conduct was so odious that the DoJ was ready to break it up. But at the last instant, AT&T got a stay of execution: the Pentagon intervened to say that without AT&T, the US would not be able to prosecute the war in Korea.

AT&T had been "punished" for its prior bad acts by being made a de-facto, privatized arm of the state, and now the state was intervening to keep AT&T intact. It worked. AT&T stayed intact for another quarter-century, during which time its conduct steadily worsened.

This is what happens when we "tame" monopolies instead of breaking them up: the monopolist makes some cosmetic changes to its conduct, coopts its regulators, and reverts to its wicked ways as soon as the attention shifts, using its monopoly profits to fight any consequences.

Today, there are many proposals to fix Big Tech, but far too often, these proposals start from the perspective that Big Tech is permanent and there is no need to consider the way that new rules would impact potential competitors, because they're already doomed.

Last year's EU Copyright Directive, for example, with its mandate for expensive copyright filters for online services (how expensive? Google spend $100m developing Contentid, a toy version of what the EU rule requires).

Not only is this a disaster because filters are garbage and block all kinds of legitimate speech - it's doubly awful because it prevents competitors from entering Big Tech's markets that might be more respectful of their users - co-ops, EU-based SMEs, etc.

And it makes Google and FB and other Big Tech companies an arm of the state, part of the apparatus of copyright enforcement (not just copyright, the EU's Terror Reg makes them filter "extremist" content too).

And it prevents a future Hush-a-Phone moment for Big Tech: Youtube will say that if it is responsible for fighting extremism and infringement, it MUST block competitors who interoperate with its service to provide fairer, better alternatives.

Tellingly, while Youtube and Facebook started off as staunch opponents of a filter mandate in the Copyright Directive, they quickly switched sides and began arguing in FAVOR of filters - after all, they already had filters, and nascent competitors did not.

Big Tech's latest cursed monkey paw moment comes from Amazon, who, after losing key court cases over selling dangerously defective goods stop arguing that it wasn't responsible for its sellers' goods.

Instead, they started demanding that state legislative proposals, like California's AB 3262, be made FAR stricter, so that just making an ecommerce platform (like the scrappy Canadian Amazon rival Shopify does) makes you responsible for anything sold on that platform.

It's gonna be burdensome for Amazon to check out all of its sellers' goods, but Amazon is arguably the only company with enough excess capital to do that checking, and they've got a patent on forcing sellers to expose their entire supply-chain in machine-readable formats.

Which means that Amazon - who are under antitrust scrutiny for spying on their sellers and then knocking off their best products and driving them out of business - could be LEGALLY OBLIGATED to spy on its sellers.

Which means that if the DoJ or Congress decides to force Amazon to STOP spying on its sellers, they will have to override California's consumer protection rule that makes Amazon undertake this surveillance.

It also means that sellers who are worried that Amazon will spy on them in order to drive them out of business will have few (or no) alternatives to giving Amazon its data, because Shopify and other ecommerce platforms CAN'T comply with California's proposed liability rule.

Amazon is REALLY good at this kind of regulator monkeypawing. For a long time, Amazon maintained the fiction that all its European digital goods sales were consummated in Luxembourg, where there was no VAT. That let it sell ebooks for 20% less than, say, UK competitors.

When the EU decided to fix this, Amazon enthusiastically cooperated, producing a harmonized VAT rule that only the largest companies could comply with: a rule that required sellers in the EU to gather and retain two pieces of address-confirming info from every customer.

Then sellers would have to calculate how much VAT to charge based in 28 different countries' VAT laws, and would have to remit that VAT every quarter, regardless of how small that remittance was. I was living in the UK then, and selling my ebooks online.

The VAT rule meant that if I collected EU0.01 from a single Polish customer in a quarter, I would have to pay to wire the Polish tax authorities EU0.01, and pay accountants to prepare the paperwork. The first quarter, I paid £750 to remit £17 in VAT.

Of course, there was a way to get around all of this! All I needed to do was shut down my independent ebook store and shift to selling on Amazon, and pay them 30% of every penny I brought in. Amazon has a whole building full of accountants and programmers to make that work.

(The issue became moot when I moved to the US and shuttered my UK Limited Company; today you can shop at my ebook store and I don't have to collect VAT at all)

There are monkey's paw proposals everywhere, like killing CDA230, which shields tech platforms from liability for users' speech - sure, the Big Tech platforms wouldn't like to pay for more moderators and filters, but in return they'd get to wipe out all small rivals.

But the monkey's paw is not inevitable. There are plenty of ways to make Big Tech less powerful while encouraging alternatives, including co-ops and nonprofits. Instead of copyright filters, we could have blanket licenses that directly pay artists.

And, as Matt Stoller points out in his article on AB3262, we don't need Amazon's extensions to an otherwise sensible consumer protection statute that would extend liability to Shopify - we can craft a rule that catches Amazon's bad conduct alone.

If we are going to tame Big Tech, let us tame them - by reducing their power, not by demanding that they exercise it wisely. If Big Tech has too much power, let's take some of it away - we'll never get them to use it for good.

We can (try to) fix Big Tech or we can fix the internet. Big Tech will either figure it out and survive or it won't. Their products are optional, but we NEED the internet.
