Nie Huaisang and Jiang Cheng start hooking up post-canon and Wei Wuxian assumes it's part of a scheme on Nie Huaisang's part. Possibly it was actually a scheme but Nie Huaisang got into it anyway. Or if sadness is more your thing, he didn't, and Wei Wuxian is left being like "see Jiang Cheng? I knew he couldn't have been hanging around with you for fun!"
ao3 (short)
“You need to stop,” Wei Wuxian said, his eyes narrow and expression fierce.
It was a lot less effective on Mo Xuanyu’s face than it had been on his original features. No one had yet told him, presumably out of a desire to avoid being murdered by Lan Wangji for making his lover sad.
Nie Huaisang frowned at him. “Stop…what?”
“Whatever it is you’re up to!”
Oh, were they doing this again?
Nie Huaisang opened up a fan and hid his face behind it in a single movement – he’d gotten really good at it over the years – and started idly fanning himself. “Wei-xiong, really, you’ll need to be more specific. I’m up to so many things, don’t you know…?”
Normally Nie Huaisang wouldn’t bother playing along, but he could see Jiang Cheng coming down the hallway at an angle that put him directly in Wei Wuxian’s blind spot – if there was one thing Jinlin Tower was good for, it was not seeing people – and he could already see Jiang Cheng starting to smile at his nonsense, which was obviously far more important than whatever it was that Wei Wuxian thought he’d figured out.
Hmm. Maybe Nie Huaisang was being too hasty in judging Lan Wangji’s rudeness – love really did make you do the stupidest things…
“I meant in relation to Jiang Cheng.”
Nie Huaisang stopped fanning and stared blankly at him. A few steps away from the turn, he saw Jiang Cheng come to a halt as well, already scowling.
“Jiang – Cheng?” he said hesitantly. “What exactly does Wei-xiong think I’m doing with Jiang-xiong?”
Wei Wuxian crossed his arms. “I’m not sure,” he said. “What are you doing?”
Nie Huaisang blinked at him. “But if I knew that, Wei-xiong, I wouldn’t have asked you, would I?”
The main problem Wei Wuxian had with confronting Nie Huaisang about anything, really, was that he genuinely found Nie Huaisang terribly funny. The twitching lips made the glaring more difficult.
(Behind him, Jiang Cheng was rolling his eyes, a full-body production that involved a great deal of heaving of shoulders and clutching at his head at the rampant stupidity on display. Nie Huaisang appreciated his lover's dedication to the art.)
Still – and this part was worrisome – Wei Wuxian’s smile faded away soon enough, replaced by a solemn expression.
“We may not be on the best of terms right now,” he said. “But he’s still very dear to me. I won’t put up with you using him as part of one of your schemes.”
“I don’t actually have any schemes,” Nie Huaisang said, mostly because Jiang Cheng was frowning now and Nie Huaisang did not want Wei Wuxian to mess up his budding relationship. “Really, Wei-xiong! I had one scheme, and it took me over a decade – I’m hardly the shadowy puppet-master mastermind you seem to sometimes seem to take me as. Why would you think that I’m using Jiang-xiong?”
“You’re deceitful,” Wei Wuxian said. “You made Jin Guangyao think that you were weak and dependent on him for years even as you plotted to bring him down. And now you’re pulling the same thing on Jiang Cheng – what am I supposed to think?”
Wei Wuxian must have seen them in the market, Nie Huaisang thought. He’d been carping around, playing up his good-for-nothing self – Jiang Cheng liked it when he did that. Mostly because Nie Huaisang really was a bit of a good-for-nothing, his one scheme claim to fame being firmly in the past; his cultivation was weak, his achievements few, his personality…questionable…
(Jin Ling had, upon discovering them spending time together, told Nie Huaisang that he fit everyone one of the criteria that Jiang Cheng had set out for a wife, right down to the weaker level of cultivation and the proper family background. Nie Huaisang had bought him some candy on the basis that ‘be nice to Jin Ling’ was on the list, and told him to think about the type of mileage he could get out of something like that. Jin Ling had looked appropriately thoughtful, after.
Nie Huaisang was a very good influence – or possibly a bad one, he wasn’t sure.)
At any rate, Jiang Cheng liked indulging him, liked and was reassured by the contrast between them. No one looking at them would ever put Jiang Cheng second – Nie Huaisang wasn’t even prettier! – except maybe in terms of insults, and even Jiang Cheng had to admit that he didn’t really want the privilege of being called the worst Great Sect leader, even if it was a superlative.
Wei Wuxian must have seen.
Wei Wuxian must have totally misunderstood.
“Jiang-xiong was at the Guanyin temple as well,” Nie Huaisang pointed out. “It’s not like er-ge at all.”
Wei Wuxian frowned. “Do you really have the right to call Lan-da-ge that?”
“My brother’s no less my brother because he’s dead, and he kept his oath to the end,” Nie Huaisang pointed out. “Why should the other two be released from the obligations of their oath just because they chose to foreswear their side of it?”
“Stop getting away from the point,” Wei Wuxian said, probably because Nie Huaisang was right. Bitter and mean and resentful, but right. “Whatever you’re scheming that involves Jiang Cheng, stop it.”
“No.”
Wei Wuxian blinked.
“I’m not scheming, but even if I was, the target would be Jiang Cheng,” Nie Huaisang explained. “You don’t understand, Wei-xiong. You see, I like Jiang Cheng.”
“I’m sure you do,” Wei Wuxian said. “But I also think you liked Jin Guangyao, a bit.”
Maybe he had. A bit.
But it wasn’t the same at all!
“I especially won’t tolerate you using him for sex while also –”
“Wei Wuxian!” Jiang Cheng bellowed, and Wei Wuxian jumped a chi into the air.
Nie Huaisang fanned himself. “Oh good,” he said. “I was about to be worried that you’d misunderstand, Jiang-xiong, but luckily Wei-xiong decided to take all the awkwardness onto himself.”
“What do you think you’re doing?” Jiang Cheng snarled at Wei Wuxian, who blanched but scowled back.
“I was just trying to help –”
“By embarrassing me?”
“How is it embarrassing to you?!”
“You think I’d be – what – led around by my dick like some new model Jin Guangshan –”
“Oh, that’s a good insult,” Nie Huaisnag said approvingly. “I’m going to need to use that in the future. What do you think the odds are for Lan Wangji biting me if I said it to him?”
That got both of them to stop fighting and turn to look at him.
“What? Does he only bite people he likes now? He used to bite everybody.”
Blank staring.
“That was back when he was five,” Nie Huaisang allowed. “It’s been a while.”
“You have stories about baby Lan Zhan?” Wei Wuxian said at once, as one might’ve expected. “I want them. All of them. Now.”
“Weren’t you threatening him a moment ago?!”
“That’s different! That was for you!”
“Right, because you don’t think anyone would actually like me,” Jiang Cheng said.
He sounded hurt.
Unacceptable.
“I’m sure Wei-xiong just meant that you were so unbearably attractive that people would compete for the opportunity to manipulate them into your bed,” Nie Huaisang assured him while Wei Wuxian was still trying to find words. “And since Wei-xiong thinks I’m the best schemer, obviously I won hands down, and secretly eliminated all my love rivals to boot. It's all my fault. Alas! I've been caught red-handed!”
“Are you actually capable of saying a single word that isn’t complete nonsense?” Jiang Cheng asked him, his tone having returned to exasperated and fond, which was worlds better than hurt.
Nie Huaisang considered the question seriously and then shook his head.
“You…! Good-for-nothing!”
Nie Huaisang nodded happily. “Your good-for-nothing,” he said cheerfully. “I’m going to make you do everything for me from now on.”
He was, too.
Wei Wuxian looked between them. “Wait,” he said. “Is this – a thing?”
“If you mean Jiang-xiong and I, yes,” Nie Huaisang said. “He’s been courting me for years, and I refused.”
“Only on the basis of a secret murder plot which you didn’t want to get me involved in.”
“How was I to know that everything would turn out well in the end? I thought there was every chance san-ge would find a way to drag me down with him. I couldn’t let that happen to you, of course.”
“Of course,” Jiang Cheng jeered, but he looked pleased and smug the way he always did when Nie Huaisang admitted to having been won over by the very first day of his courtship, years ago. He liked being successful at things.
“No,” Wei Wuxian said. “Not that. The – good-for-nothing thing. It’s a thing. For you two.”
“Fighting words,” Nie Huaisang remarked, even as Jiang Cheng flushed red. “Coming from the dreadful Yiling Patriarch that needs to be defeated by the mighty and righteous Hanguang-jun and then taken away for a good ravishing –”
“Wei Wuxian!”
“Uh - listen – I can explain – actually, no, I can’t. Nie-xiong, you have my blessing, just don’t break his heart, bye.”
“Come back here you -!”
Yes, Nie Huaisang decided, watching Jiang Cheng chase Wei Wuxian. This was the best possible result.

Hallo! I greatly enjoy your writing, for everything really, and whenever you get the chance and some inspo hits, wouldya write somethin sweet and gay? Whatever you're feeling, I'm sure I'll enjoy it! Thank you v kindly and I hope you have a lovely evening/day!
Kara shifted in the chair, feeling a tiny bit uneasy. Her nurse—a young woman who introduced herself as Nia when Kara had been called from the waiting room—smiled kindly and paused her typing on the desktop situated on the study table in the examination room.
“First time getting your eyes checked?” she said knowingly, voicing the question though the answer was clear in Kara’s fidgeting hands and on Nia’s computer screen, proclaiming Kara to be a first-time patient. “You shouldn’t worry, Dr. Luthor is the best ophthalmologist in the business. She’s world renowned, not that she’d ever admit to it.” It seemed like that last part was more for Nia’s benefit than Kara’s, said in a slightly miffed mumble as she turned her attention back to the computer. “Any known allergies?”
Kara blinked, feeling a bit trapped. “Um, no, but—”
“—we don’t have any medications listed for you. Is that right? You’re not on any prescriptions?”
“Oh, no. I’m not. But I—”
“—I see you wear glasses. When was the last time you got a prescription? Did you want to get new frames, we can—” Finally Kara had enough. She reached out and grabbed Nia’s hand, causing her to fall silent. “This is weird. Is this a come on? Because you’re really pretty, but I don’t swing that way.”
“No, I—wait, what?” Kara released Nia, feeling as though she’d been burned. “No! Not a—not a come on, I would never—”
“Look, it’s okay. I didn’t think so, you seem...well, nice. But I have a lawyer friend who owes me a favor so...I can have you sued. Just so you know.” She narrowed her eyes in an attempt, unsuccessful unfortunately, to look intimidating. “So what is it? You look like I tried to drown your cat.”
“I shouldn’t be here,” Kara confessed, meeting Nia’s eyes steadily. The nurse blinked owlishly at her, clearly lost.
“I don’t follow,” she said, confirming what Kara already knew.
“Look, I’m going to trust you, okay? There’s nothing actually wrong with my eyes. Or my health in general. I’m in like perfect health. By human standards, maybe more than perfect. But I don’t want to sound arrogant or anything, you know?”
Nia’s head was cocked to one side as she studied Kara. “Sorry, I still don’t follow.”
“I’manalien,” Kara said in a rush, and judging from the way Nia’s eyes widened and her expression cleared, she understood Kara perfectly.
“Well that explains all...that,” she gestured wildly to Kara. “So what’s the issue? Dr. Luthor is super supportive of aliens. She’s one of the only doctors in National City to—”
“—I don’t need glasses!” Kara interrupted, not really needing to hear about Dr. Luthor. “Look, I’m only here because,” she paused, not sure if she was willing to give the long explanation of how her work mishap, the stupid excuse she’d mumbled out, and a well-meaning coworker’s insistence to help (with a voice in Kara’s head that sounded suspiciously like Alex reminding her to keep her secret identity secret when she tried to get out of the whole thing) led her here to this moment, “it doesn’t matter. I just need your help. Tell the doctor I don’t need to be seen, give me a fake prescription, and I can go on my way.”
Nia frowned, shaking her head. “Dr. Luthor would never buy it, and she has to sign the prescriptions. She’s very particular about it. You’re here, you may as well just...get your eyes checked?”
“My alien eyes that can shoot lasers and see through anything but lead? Those eyes?”
“That’s so cool,” Nia breathed out, but she was focused. She pulled a drawer open and pulled out to eye drops. “One is to numb, the other is to dilate.” She paused, eyeing the bottles then Kara. “Would you even need a numbing agent?”
Kara resisted the urge to tell Nia that her cousin once had a bullet to the eye and it just dropped to the ground, harmless to a Kryptonian. Instead, she leaned her head back, allowing Nia to apply the drops, reassuring her the whole time that she’d help with Dr. Luthor. She winked at Kara before slipping out of the exam room, leaving only a single dimmed light on, assuring her the “doctor would be in soon.”
Kara closed her eyes—which felt no different from before she’d gotten the eye drops—and leaned her head back. She couldn’t leave, she didn’t want to stay, and she was just about to declare this one of the worst days in the last year at best, when there was a knock at the door and it swung open.
And standing there, bathed in the bright light of the hallway, was the most beautiful woman Kara had ever seen, a grinning—and all too smug—Nia standing right behind her.
She had long dark hair, brilliantly green eyes, wore the tightest dress Kara had ever seen, with heels that she was sure were murder to walk in all day. The sleeves of her white coat were rolled up to her forearms, her bright red lips were curved into a breathtaking smile.
“Hi,” said the walking angel, “I’m Dr. Lena Luthor. Nia tells me you wanted to check your eye pressure and get a new prescription?”
Kara nodded numbly, struck dumb by Dr. Luthor’s easy grace.
Nia snickered, actually snickered, as she closed the door behind them, leaning against it as Lena pulled a chair in front of Kara and motioned for her to bring her face up to the tonometer. “Forehead against, yes, and chin on the rest down there...perfect,” Dr. Luthor said gently, her voice like honey. Kara couldn’t help it, her eyes followed Dr. Luthor’s, wanting to memorize the shade. She was so busy trying to decide whether it was an emerald or sea green, forgetting entirely her misgivings about being here in the first place, that she missed the first part of Nia’s attempt to ‘help.’
“—quite extraordinary, don’t you think?” Nia finished, causing Dr. Luthor to pull slightly away, cheeks tinged pink.
For the first time, Lena Luthor was something just below perfection, stumbling over her words a little as she responded. “Oh, yes, um. They are. Looking at eyes is my job, Ms. Danvers, but yours are—well, like Nia said, so unprofessionally, they’re quite extraordinary.” She leaned back in, looking a little interested. “In fact, they’re almost—”
“—your eyes are very green,” Kara blurted, both because she was thinking it with Dr. Luthor’s face so incredibly close and because she wasn’t sure if she wanted a world renowned ophthalmologist looking too carefully at her eyes, lest she see something, well, inhuman. “Do your patients ever mention that?”
“For sure, but you’re probably the first person Dr. Luthor wants to hear it from,” Nia said, which had the doctor in question turn around and flash her a dirty look, and had Kara spluttering.
“Your lawyer friend should sue you,” Kara managed before refocusing her attention on Dr. Luthor. “I’m really sorry about commenting on your eyes. That was rude. I said the quiet part out loud. Can the numbing agent for the eyes cause a loose tongue?”
It was the stupidest thing to say, Kara knew it as soon as the words escaped her, embarrassment heating her cheeks and the back of her neck as Nia choked on laughter and Dr. Luthor seemed, well, angelic.
“You know, Nia tells me you have very interesting eyes,” Dr. Luthor said, her tone and the stressing of ‘interesting’ making it very clear Nia had told her about the laser vision. “You don’t need a doctor.”
“I need a fake prescription.”
“I can write you a note instead,” the doctor offered, getting Kara to lean back in her chair and tugging the tonometer out of the way. “Would that work?”
“Could you say I can’t see with my old glasses and that’s why I ran into a table and knocked over a coworker’s favorite mug, not that I broke it by trying to heat their coffee with my laser vision?”
Dr. Luthor laughed, the sound like the jingling of bells. It was beautiful and was thoroughly distracting. “I think that’s a lot for a note. What about, you have vision issues I’ve never seen before?”
Kara thought about it for a moment, then nodded, sticking her hand out for the doctor who stared at it with a fond smile on her lips. “You’ve got a deal, Dr. Luthor,” she said, waiting for the angel to take her hand. After several seconds, during which Lena Luthor met and held Kara’s gaze, she reached out and took Kara’s hand, her index and middle finger sliding against the inside of Kara’s wrist. She opened her mouth—to say what, Kara wasn’t sure—when Nia cut in.
“In return for the note, Kara will take you to coffee. Oh look you shook on it! That’s an oral contract, my lawyer friend will sue you if you don’t go on that date.”
Kara blushed and glared at Nia, ready to let the doctor off the hook, but Dr. Luthor’s grip on her hand tightened. And when Kara’s eyes met Lena Luthor’s incredibly green ones, she noticed they were crinkled in a smile.
“When we go to coffee,” she said softly, “you have to call me Lena. All my dates do.”

Phasmophobia
Danny was very sick of tourists coming to explore Amity park. Like very sick of them, especially the ‘ghost hunter’ ones. In the end they just caused more problems than the actual ghosts, getting in the way of the fights causing Danny more stress and injuries than normal. Not to mention they sucked at their so called jobs. He was pretty sure even a single elementary schooler of Amity was a better ghost fighter than all of the tourists combined.
But at the moment it was the dead of winter and probably one of the coldest weeks of the year. So only the stupidest of self proclaimed ghost hunters would venture out to hunt ghosts in weather like this. While it was nice not having to worry about danger prone tourists Danny still was miserable, he could deal with the cold just fine in fact he preferred the cold. The problem was that It was the holiday season, the worst time of the year. At least the ghost attacks were less frequent as they all prepared for the Christmas truce party.
Still he supposed it could be worse. His parents weren’t fighting as much this year, though that was probably due to the fact they were still treating him like he was made of glass half of the time after he told them about the whole half dead thing. Danny figured that was due to the fact they blamed themselves for the portal incident, causing them to coddle him to an almost tortuous degree. It was as if they expected him to disappear if he was so much as bumped in the wrong way. It had gotten a bit better at this point at least, if things continued as it did at the beginning Danny was pretty sure he’d rather have them still be shooting at him. Now they only tensed up when he left the house instead of not so subtly stalking him all day.
At the moment Danny was sitting on the counter in the kitchen with his mom while she was cooking dinner. “Danny dear get off the counter that’s where the food goes not you.” Maddie said shooing him off the counter with a spatula.
Danny floated off in a huff, “This is ghostphobic mom. The counter is a perfect seat.”
Maddie rolled her eyes, “The term would be phasmophobic, and no it’s not it’s; I don’t want your butt all over where I’m making our dinner-phobic.”
“Fine transphobic then.”
“How about asking you to set the table? What would that be?”
Danny mulled it over for a few seconds. “A reasonable request I suppose.” He phased his hands though the cabinets grabbing the plates. Honestly he could have just as easily grabbed them normally but he was still trying to get his parents used to him having powers. “Oh by the way Sam, Tucker, and I are hanging out tomorrow to celebrate winter break starting and school being out for two whole weeks.” “Alright sweetie, but be safe okay?”
“Of course I will be mom.”
“I mean it Danny, please.”
Danny sighed “Don’t worry, I’ll make sure to text you regularly to let you know I’m safe. I’ll be fine and stay out of trouble, I promise” Maddie nodded seemingly plated at least for the time being.
The next day Danny was really regretting making that promise. The day started out so well too. Danny, Sam, and Tucker were walking along the park trail. Danny was walking a few steps in front of the other two, subtly making the path easier with his powers. The only people out insane enough to bear the cold were people who had to go to work and teens who were bored out of their minds.
“All I’m saying Danny is that if you want to choose that class you should choose a race other than human for once. Hellspawn would be the best option in your case.” Tucker argued.
“Says the dude playing the race for furries.” Danny shot back turning his head to look back at his friend.
“Hey! The beastmen race is a perfect fit for my class, they have an exp boost for trickery and magic skills  it’s the best for playing a character who mains in ambushing with traps.
“Boys boys stop arguing. Danny will be fine playing as a human he’s just gonna have to spend more time grinding. Also he’s right, beastmen are so the furry option.” Sam cut in.
“Whatever, I just don’t understand why he always plays the most boring race in every game he plays. I mean why would you want to play as a human when you could be a fantasy race like an elf or something.”
“Well that’s easy for you and Sam to say you both are still hum-,” Danny was cut off mid sentence by his ghost sense and a glowing red circle surrounding the group. He hardly had a chance to go ghost before being fully enveloped by the light.
When Danny was finally oriented enough to open his eyes he vowed to never complain about getting motion sick while his dad was driving again if it meant he would never have to go through that awful experience again. It felt like getting sucked into the Fenton Thermos if it was the size of a straw and being spun in a blender all at the same time. He looked around seeing if his friends were brought along with him. And just his luck, of course they got pulled through whatever the hell that was too.
“Ugh, you guys okay?” He closed his eyes again and focused on stabilizing his core and getting the last of the nausea to leave.
“Bleh I think I’m gonna hurl.” Sam groaned from beside him.
Danny heard Tucker shift beside him. “Yeah I’m good, I guess all that time staying up late playing VR games kinda helped against motion sickness. Landed on my arm though so definitely going to bruise later. Where are we anyway?”
That actually was a good question, Danny lifted himself off the ground literally, using legs to stand was lame anyway. The sight he was met with was both confusing and surprising. Looking down he saw that the three of them were in some sort of red magic circle or something, with candles lit around it. Looking past that was the part that was surprising. He was expecting this to be the work of a ghost but standing in a circle around the three of them were six  humans in different colored robes. He couldn’t recognize any of them though, they must have been from out of town or just total shut ins. He was pretty sure he recognized where they were though, it was the basement of an abandoned building next to the mall, Sam was super into urban exploring the year before and it was one of the first places she dragged the two boys to.
“Haha uhh hey didn’t know there was a costume party going on, I would have dressed up, looks like you got all the colored robe thing going on though. Would my hazmat suit work instead of a robe?” Danny looked at the group around him and cracked an uneasy smile. Maybe it was some sort of accidental ghost summoning or something, it wouldn’t be the first time. Though the fact it brought his friends along pointed to it either being on purpose or something much more powerful, or both.
The man in the black robe turned to a woman in a white one. “Why did the spell bring two kids along with it .”
Danny tried to ignore being called an ‘it’ not like his parents didn’t do it before they knew about his identity. “I’m not the murder clown and I do have a name you know.” But his words seemed to fall onto deaf ears.
“I did the calculations right if that’s what you’re trying to imply, as you can see the subject did appear in the circle as planned. We probably just underestimated how much power the sacrifice would provide with the addition of the solstice.” White robe snapped. Great, this was totally just what Danny needed at the start of his winter break. Not only did they seem like ghost hunters they were the crazy obsessed culty ones.
“Either way the goal was achieved in the end, we have the ghost boy.” Black robe pointed to two men, one in yellow and one in blue robes. “Take care of the two bystanders, but don’t kill them. After all we shouldn’t kill our soon to be followers.” Yeah that wasn’t concerning at all Danny thought.
The one in the yellow grabbed Sam and the one in the blue grabbed Tucker at the black robed man's command. Danny assumed that probably meant the black robed one was the one in charge here. “Hey! Get your hands off me you freaks!” Sam yelled, struggling against the man’s grip.
But Danny’s friends didn’t have a chance against people twice their size. Before either of them could struggle more the two men slammed their heads to the ground in almost unison, knocking them out almost instantly. It happened so fast all Danny would do is watch on in horror. He felt like he watched their now limp bodies for ages, their chests shallowly rising at least giving him the relief of knowing they were still alive. But the sight of small puddles of blood forming around their heads snapped him out of his horror and into a rage.
Danny placed his feet to the ground turning to look at the two in the black and white robes. “Why?” He seethed, “You said they were accidentally brought along when you were trying to get me here. Technically in a way this falls onto me. So tell me, why?”
The man in the black robe seemed taken aback from being confronted so suddenly. The woman in white didn’t seem to have the same problem, maybe they both were in charge? Honestly though Danny didn’t care at this point. “We will take over the little town you haunt. After we do that we will find out where all the ghosts are originating from and then make them into our soldiers so we can take over the country and then the world. To do that we obviously needed you out of the way since you seem to be the only one capable of combating the other ghosts that come into this world. Or you would just defeat our pawns before they could take true action. So we found a way to summon and trap ghosts, then brought you here so we could get you out of our way.”
Honestly Danny was disappointed hearing that more than anything, his rage almost completely disappeared after hearing the plan. “Hold up that is the stupidest plan I have ever heard.” And that was saying something seeing as he dealt with Vlad's plans on a weekly basis. “First off you do realize it would be very hard to get or even force ghosts into your service if you don’t offer them, anything in return. Not to mention how some ghosts have almost godlike powers and you expect to overpower them? Also I am not even close to the only one who can fight ghosts. Everyone in Amity Park has at least some know how when it comes to ghost fighting. They sell basic ghost protection equipment at the supermarket. I just happen to be better suited than everyone else because I y’know can like fly and go intangible when chasing them. Using ghosts to take over the world is so stupid do you even know how to properly catch a ghost? Seriously this is like next level dumb, not to mention how did you even know the summoning would work if it didn't you’d just all be standing in a darkly lit room looking dumber than you already do.”
That seemed to anger the white one a lot. Apparently she didn’t like her intelligence questioned. “Why you little-.” She stomped her foot. “This plan was thought through down to the smallest detail. You want to know how it worked huh? How about asking your friend over there. I wonder what happens when the dead are killed? You will find out soon enough.”
Danny looked over to where we gestured and his refound taunting attitude vanished. Laying over in the corner inside a smaller less complex looking circle was a ghost or the ectoplasmic remains of one at least, the core was completely destroyed. Judging by the fact that the ectoplasm was red it probably had a fire core before it was destroyed. From the lingering ecto signature Danny doubted the ghost was even sapient. It was most likely the remains of something like a blob ghost or the ghost of an animal or even a weaker ectopus. Still all he could do was stare at the remains in horror.
“Of course summoning you was harder so we used that thing for its ghost energy to help power the circle. Instead of chalk we used it’s ectoplasm to ensure the strength and longevity of the seal to hold you in the circle.” The woman smiled as if she achieved something great. Achieve something she did indeed, but it certainly was not what she intended.
The rage Danny felt before came back in full force. Before with his friends he at least knew they would recover, all three of them got injured fighting ghosts more often than they should. But to injure a ghost to the point where not even their core remained was something so taboo that only the most despicable ghosts would do. Even Skulker kept the cores of his prey stable enough not to fade away completely. A ghost's form could be completely destroyed but as long as their core remained they would reform back where they first formed in the Ghost Zone. The only ghosts Danny could think of who would go out of their way to destroy a core were some of the ancients like Pariah Dark or Nocturne.
Danny finally managed to tear his eyes away from the ghost's remains to lock eyes with the woman. She and the black robed man took a step back out of instinct. Looking into his eyes they felt the feeling every animal of prey felt when it knew it was being watched, being hunted. The temperature in the room dropped and frost started to crawl across the walls. Danny took a step towards the two leaders before pausing to reconsider and turning and starting towards the two men standing above his friends.
Then men in yellow and blue robes looked to the man in black for guidance, unsure of what action to take. He looked uncertain as well but shook his head. “There’s no way it can pass through the seal, we tested it.”
Danny's eyes flicked over to the man then back to the two who hurt his friends and gave them a predatory grin, his teeth now looking slightly sharper than usual. He made no sound as he stepped over the circle with ease closer and closer to the two men. They both reached for their weapons, small bats, apparently they were the muscle of the group, and swung at the approaching ghost. Danny simply went intangible causing the two to overswing and hit each other instead, knocking the wind out of them both and causing them to drop their bats. While they were catching their breath Danny grabbed them by their hair and knocked their heads together. Their bodies crumbled to the floor just a few inches from the teens they did the same to just minutes before.
The one who had yet to say or do anything, dressed in red, made her way towards Danny while his back was towards her. Just as she got within arms reach of him she slipped and fell. The temperature had dropped even more at this point causing the ground surrounding Danny to ice over. Danny hardly acknowledged the large thud behind him simply trapping the fallen woman up to her neck in ice as he walked past and headed towards his final two targets.
When first summoned by the group Danny could, within reason, probably be passed off as a weirdish looking human excluding the glow around him. But now as he stalked towards his prey that was no longer the case. His chest no longer moved like it was breathing. His feet made no sound as they made contact with the ground. His eyes, non-blinking, no longer had pupils or even whites to them just a void of endless ectoplasmic green. His ears were pointed almost bat like. The tips of which, along with his lips, were tinted blue. His hair, normally white like snow, now was just the white that came from complete absence of any color. The hair was defying gravity almost as if it was underwater while smoke like wisps trailed off from his hair as he moved. His mouth was twisted into an emotionless smile splitting through his cheeks showing needle like teeth all the way back to where his molars would have been, there was no tongue or throat behind them, just another endless green void. The skin of his neck that was showing past the hazmat suit was marked with lightning like scars. The glow around him seemed to absorb all the light in the room.
The man in the black robe looked between the approaching horror and his partner before running towards the exit. Danny moved so fast it was almost as if he materialized right in front of the man. The man stumbled back falling down in shock but still tried to scramble away from him crossing his chest as he did so. Just as Danny started to raise his arm towards the man he paused and lurched back.
He looked down at his chest where an ornate knife was now lodged. Holding onto the hilt was the woman, she gave the knife a final twist before letting go and herding her partner into the corner farthest away from Danny. Danny showed no pain as he grabbed the knife and pulled it out, the blade was dripping with ectoplasm, and dropped it on the ground. The wound in his chest already healing, filling with more ectoplasm to replace what was lost.
The smile that was marring Danny’s face was replaced with a scowl as he made his way towards the corner where the two were cowering. Placing a hand on their necks he lifted them both up against the wall and started slowly burning their skin with an ectoblast. He let them go, letting them fall to the ground only when their screams of pain turned silent as crushed vocal cords and burnt throat muscles took their toll. Both cult leaders looked up at him in horror faces pale. "What's wrong?" Danny smiled, "It looks like you've seen a ghost."
The woman looked at him in fear as she grasped at the raw skin of her throat, which now was covered in blisters and charred in some of the worst places. “Wha-, what, what are you?” She managed to rasp out before coughing up some blood.
Danny let out a dark chuckle, his voice echoed over itself. “I-,” he snarled, “am a Phantom .”
After Danny sent an anonymous tip to the police about the cult, he brought his friends back to his house. Of course his mom freaked out after he stopped responding to her texts and even more when he phased into the living room with an unconscious Sam and Tucker. He was pretty sure she was about to break out the BOOmerang if she didn’t hear from him for much longer. She was more than willing to take the two of them to the hospital to get them checked out.
Danny made a quick stop into the ghost zone to tell Clockwork to spread the word to other ghosts to be on alert and that there were humans that were trying to summon and capture ghosts. After telling Clockwork what happened, in much more detail than the briefest summary he gave his mom, including how he probably went a bit overboard with dealing with the cultists. He also admitted he didn't regret it even if he did go overboard. They hurt his friends and caused a ghost to completely fade, and in Danny’s opinion they deserve whatever came to them. The whole story caused Clockwork to also start fretting over him making sure to let Danny know that his reaction was a completely normal response to someone threatening something that falls within his obsession especially since it happened in his haunt of all places. Danny swore that his ghostly mentor could be worse than his own parents sometimes especially when it came to reassuring him about his more ghostly tendencies.
Luckily after being released from the hospital it turned out the worst Sam and Tucker suffered were concussions that would heal in a decently short amount of time. That didn’t mean they weren’t complaining about it though.
“Stop laughing about my suffering Danny! I won’t be able to start playing Fantasy War Online VII until my two week tech restriction is lifted by my doctor. It was bad enough I had to go to a hospital but to be taken away from my lovely devices as well is just too much.” Tucker lamented.
“Quit complaining and suck it up. I’m on the restriction too Tucker.” Sam pointed out.
Tucker huffed. “Yeah well you’ll probably manage to catch up to all the people who are getting it on release day easily, since you’re scarily good at MMO’s.” He flopped back onto Danny’s bed. “Hey at least this gives us more time to convince Danny to play something other than a human for once in his life. Like I said before the hellspawn is the perfect race for the build you’re going for.”
Danny just rolled his eyes. “And like I said before, I like being a human.” “Whatever dude just don’t complain when I utterly beat you if we end up fighting because you wanted to be the lamest most boring race ever.”
Danny shrugged. “Somehow I’ll cope, I just think it’s nice to be seen as normal and not scary.”
Sam laughed. “Danny you are the least scary person like to ever exist. The only things scary about you are your grades and your wacky parents. I doubt you could be scary if you tried.”
Danny looked out the window watching the stars as they started to appear in the sky. “...Yeah I guess you’re right.”

These Violent Delights  - Darth Vader x FemReader
Yer idk why I wrote this either. I’m not ashamed though. And if you read this you’re just as bad as I am for writing it. No more said . Enjoy
Word Count: 1377
Warnings : explicit, brief mentions of smut but nothing too heavy, bit angsty, mentions of violence (but if you’re here then I’m sure that doesn’t put you off), kinda out of character (I've tried, but darth isn't a shagger, not canon anyway)
Tumblr media
There was not a day that went by when you didn't consider yourself the stupidest bitch on the planet;  scratch that the universe
You were aware that what you were doing was so dumb that even you couldn't reason it logically.
Its not like you didn't have options, theres plenty of suitors out there who would be more than happy to take you up on the offer of a night with you.
With this knowledge in mind, you still always fine yourself in the company of possibly the most dangerous man (if you can even call him that) to ever exist.
You wish you'd had the excuse of knowing him before he was vader, wish that you could say your attachment was purely based on your remnant memories from days gone by; but that just wasn't true. You only knew this being, Vader as him dark self - and that was enough for you to always come when he called.
To compare you attachment to a drug addiction felt cliche and incommodious; after all you didn't need his attention to survive, but you still craved it for your own enjoyment
it kept you up at night sometimes - you conscience weary with the fact that the rest of the body it was trapped in responded so positively to the touch of a murderer. These internal battles were common, besides, there wasn't anyone else you could exactly go to to ask advice from. The knowledge of your nightly escapades to Vader quarters was not exactly friendly gossip you could share with your friends, or even your family. It was a clear unspoken rule that secrets of this magnitude that involved the ex jedi were not something he encouraged to be passed around - not that you really wanted your family knowing. They would disown you, you would disown you. You understood just how vile your actions were
so why did they feel so fucking good?
You had been with men before, plenty of men. Maker, some of those men had the bodies of gods, so handsome that anyone would look upon them and believe they were too good for this world. But nothing compared, nothing even came close. It was one thing to enjoy someone, romantically or exclusively sexually , but it was another to be on the same level as someone. And you weren't quite sure why or how, but the only person you had ever felt that for was the destroyer of worlds.
You'd caught his eye while he and a small fleet of his stormtroopers were overseeing the work your village was putting into one of the many imperial excursions.
You'd love to say you hadn't been like everyone else and feared him instantly, that your backbone and feisty nature had meant you had always been able to feel no intimidation by his power - but that would be a big fat lie. The first time you saw him you genuinely thought you might poop your pants right there and then; all black cloak and metal. and then when you notice that he had noticed you too, when he asked your name, you personally accepted that maybe this day would be the day you died.
but it wasn't, and so it began
At first the imbalance of power was obvious, you feared him more than you had ever feared anything before. You'd heard the stories, you knew just how fast he could destroy you and how nobody would intervene even if they could if he decided this way your time to go.
He kept his distance in this time, while somehow also always letting  you know he was around. you hear him, his breathing somewhere just beyond your viewpoint. A flash of black out the corner of your eye while you walked through the streets. Just teases of his existence. Just enough to peak your interest.
It worked, he never had to come to you. You came to him.
Because above all else, your curiosity outweighed everything else, even you survival instincts.
It was easy to be drawn in, you found. In everyones brain theres a soft spot for bad people who only act kind to you. That only show vulnerability to just you. You wanted to feel special, and he made you feel like the most protected person in the universe.
It was ironic really, that being that close to death is what made you feel most alive
It wasn't romantic, and you were completely comfortable with that. You had no doubt that you could never bring yourself to love someone who had the capability to do the things this man had done, and Vader, as far as you knew anyway, wasn't programmed with the capacity to love - a relic skill left when Anakin burned into the sand.
Sometimes though, there were flickers of those sorts of affections, like muscle memory. A gloved stroke of your cheek, a sweep across your lips to catch some of himself there, a hand in your hair with more gentle intent than usual. These incidents were at first incredibly fleeting, but the more comfortable you got together, or at least the more time passed since you had first met, he seemed to get more carefree with these displays.
Equally, although you had fully expected to feel the wrath of his power at that very first meeting; Vader had never used the force against you. Well, never without you asking him to anyway - choking with the force may be Vader favourite way to bring his enemies to their demise, but when you asked him to use it on you in the bedroom, he was relatively sure you had completely lost your mind. Be that as it may, it was hot as fuck. However he never took advantage; the power imbalance was certainly there, but Vader never used it against you without you asking him.
And thats how you knew just how comfortable you'd gotten; because you did ask. without even really completely letting yourself realise just what i meant, you asked him to show you just how powerful he was. You fucking liked it, liked that he could remove you from the face of the earth with a flick of his gloved wrist. You liked that he was the strongest being most people could imagine, liked that he was so notoriously  bad.
Simply because he didn't; he kept you around. He even liked having you around, not that he would ever admit that to you, himself or anybody.
He never took his mask off, so it was easy for him to hide behind his outfit. He was changing though, maybe not dramatically, but enough for him to notice and be ashamed of.
He hadn't loved since Padme, with her it was obvious. She was beautiful, and smart, and everything Anakin Skywalker could have ever wanted. But he was no longer Anakin. There had never been another love, but you were something different entirely. You made him different . you made him weak. He lusted for you, craved you just as much if not more than you him. Anakin had always had a possessive streak, but Vader had a possessive nature. You were nothing to him, and then you were just fun to him, a body he could use, a rare someone who would let him inside of them with true interest in him, someone who could look past the suit and mask and burns. You belonged to him now, whether either of you wanted it or not, there was no one else for you.
“don't you ever let anyone touch you like this again” - he rarely spoke during sex, but when he did, his moderator was always stating claim to you. There really was no way to convince vader that you wouldn't stray, that you wouldn't suddenly wake up and realise that getting railed once very month on a dark space ship by someone who's face you had never seen wasn't enough for you. That you'd want to be with someone who you could kiss, or someone who didn't have such a dark smear on their title. But it didn't really matter, you knew you wouldn't leave, not when being bad felt so good with him.

Fool Truth
A/N: yep this is an old work to cover up the fact that i haven’t been able to write anything new ;-; so have this for now
set in the same universe as this other fic
Word count: 2176
Nikolai is tired of hearing his father's nonsense about his need to get married every time he sees him. So when the universe allowed his father to reprimand him about marriage again, Nikolai is able to say an excuse that would get him out of the situation and put him in a more complicated one.
Nikolai was ready to bolt from the battlefield.
To hell with dessert, he thought, and yet his feet were still planted on the ground. Even after years of being away from their household, he could say he had missed their old, grumpy cook Baghra's chocolate mousse cake.
Maybe he should try holding on a bit longer, but one look from the man at the head of the table was only making running look like the most reasonable choice.
He braced himself over his father's next words, all too aware of what they would be.
"I've been talking to one of our partners yesterday," Alexander Lantsov started, his tone neutral as if he was delivering a monologue during one of their board meetings. He gave Nikolai an expectant look. "She's agreed to introduce you to her daughter."
Nikolai felt his jaw tick in annoyance. He had expected this from his father; it was already old news. If there was one thing he got from him, it was stubbornness, and it was one of the rare times Nikolai hated inheriting that same trait.
Alexander continued to stare at him, and Nikolai could feel the gaze getting heavier with each second.
"Don't you ever get tired of trying to set me up with random people?" He put down his fork beside his plate as gently as possible even when slamming it down was inviting. "Because I'm exhausted, dad. Just drop it."
The atmosphere in the room grew darker, the tension in the air crackling like electricity. Nikolai should have declined coming here, but his mother had insisted and she was sometimes the only one who could make the household a bit more bearable for him.
He looked over to his older brother from across the table, seeing the amused smirk on Vasily's lips as he toyed with the glass of wine in his hand. Being the eldest came with a life perk; he was free to do anything he wanted and as he pleased. Whether it's scandalous or the barest minimum for their company, he would still be the favorite one.
Where his brother was pertained as Perfect Vasily, Nikolai was always Nikolai Nothing. Someone who would never appease his father's expectations of him.
So much for being the unfavorable second son.
Nikolai leaned back in his chair, already losing his appetite. He regarded Vasily with a nod. "Why won’t he be the one you introduce to your partner's daughter?" he said. "Besides, isn't he the one who will inherit all this? I think it's better for him to get married for a potential merging, and I see no benefit for anyone if I were to be engaged to someone of a big name."
Alexander huffed in disbelief as if he just said the stupidest thing in the world. "You still don't get it, do you?" he said, his voice dropping to what it could sound was a threatening one. “I’m doing this for your own good.”
“Oh, wow. Really now?” Nikolai’s voice had already risen, and it earned a look of warning from his mother but he didn’t bother acknowledging it. The rush of blood in his ears was raging. “My own good or for your own? As far as I remember, Lantsov Trading’s image wasn’t looking so good because of a certain scandal in one of the famous clubs in the city.”
Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Vasily shift uncomfortably in his seat and Nikolai basked in the triumph of seeing his perfect big brother squirm. He fought the urge to smirk.
“Now tell me,” he goaded, not knowing where his confidence of talking back to his father was coming from, “is it for mine, or for your own image?”
“Hey,” Vasily snapped. “Watch your mouth, Nikolai.”
But Nikolai was having none of it and gave his older brother a pointed glance. “Shut it, I’m not talking to you.”
The look of shock on Vasily’s face was priceless and Nikolai would have etched it in his mind if it weren’t for his anger taking over. He turned back to his father, whose face was now twisted into a full scowl as if he could lunge at Nikolai anytime he wanted to. Nikolai thought he could try to poke the beast out of its cage a bit more and see where it would go.
He put on an easy grin, the kind that he knew ticked at his father’s patience. “Please enlighten me, dad.”
“You are no use in this family if you’re just going to continue your hobbies and not focus on doing important matters—”
“Like trying to live quietly without you breathing down my neck and forcing me to marriage?”
Alexander was visibly fuming, and Nikolai had to commend him for holding back. “You will not disgrace our name with your lack of achievements,” his father growled. Nikolai felt the words sting at his pride but he didn’t dare let it show. “Comply, else I will cut you off.”
Nikolai chuckled humorlessly. Finally, something that makes sense. He put his hands up and shrugged. “Then cut me off. I’d gladly take it, father.”
This somehow drained the last of his father’s patience because the old man almost threw the table up when he stood, his expression darker than the stormy sky. “You will comply whether you like it or not—”
          “I’m already married.”
Everything went silent. Even breathing wasn’t even audible, as if everyone just decided to hold their breaths or some invisible force had forced them to stop breathing.
And for Nikolai, he might as well have stopped breathing. Panic overwhelmed the anger in his mind.
          Shitshitshitshitshit—
The only thing keeping him from going insane and bolting off from their old home was the look of utter shock on their faces. It was one of the rare times they gave him their full attention, and Nikolai felt bitter when he realized it was a blatant lie that would make it happen again.
But it didn’t change the fact the words he had just blurted out of control.
You’re an idiot, Nikolai, an all too familiar voice echoed in his head, and for once, he found that he agreed with it.
Another long moment passed. Nikolai’s legs were already shaking violently from under the table but he refused to break eye contact with his father. Doing so would only make his lie more uncertain than it already was.
“What did you just say?” Alexander asked him when he finally found his voice. His grip on the table became impossibly tighter.
The calmness in Nikolai’s voice surprised even himself when he replied, “I said I’m already married.”
“Since when?” his father asked in disbelief. “And to whom?”
Nikolai was already expecting that question, and yet he still didn’t have anything to cover up for it. Who would he say? It wasn’t as if he had anyone that was convincing enough to be his girlfriend, let alone his wife. He had just dug his own grave with his recklessness and his family would see him lay rest in it.
You should’ve run when you had the chance, Lantsov, he silently berated himself as he continued to rack his mind for an answer.
Apparently, his distress didn’t go unnoticed by Vasily, as Nikolai could feel his gaze on him, and when he turned, he saw the first signs of a smirk on his older brother’s lips. If there was another thing Nikolai hated from his brother, it was Vasily always seeming to see right through everything.
Maybe he should just say something snarky enough to make them drop the subject—he didn’t owe them an explanation, not after treating him like he didn’t belong to their lives. He could just tell them to give up and leave it at that. He wouldn't mind another argument that would follow if it means straying from the current subject.
But of course, knowing his family, they wouldn’t stop until they got what they wanted.
Vasily huffed, catching everyone’s attention. He almost looked like he was about to say something more when Nikolai’s ringtone blared.
With a startled glance down his pants pocket, he slowly got his phone. The caller ID at the top of the screen glared at him in big letters.
          Attorney Grumpy.
A thought suddenly formed in his head. He hesitated for a second when he realized he was going to get himself killed with the idea. But he figured that if he was going to die either way, he would prefer it to be by her hand.
Nikolai put on his usual grin. “Look,” he said, waving his phone up for emphasis, “she’s actually calling me.” He slid the answer icon to the right and put the phone to his ear, trying to keep his hand from shaking. He mustered up his most cheery tone. “Yes, dear?”
A beat, and then, “Are you still in that family dinner and somehow gotten drunk?” Zoya asked incredulously, and Nikolai had to fight off a wince from hearing her tone. He opened his mouth to reply, but it seemed like she already knew his answer. “Because I’m not fixing your shit if you ever do something beyond compare. But I would make an exception if it involves punching your brother.”
Her statement made him laugh genuinely, and the looks his family was giving him only became more curious. “What’s up?”
          “I’m crashing over tonight.”
He waited for another moment before answering something that would surely be the reason for his death later. But he had to keep up the pretense going. “I know that all too well, dear. Don’t worry, I’ll be home soon. No need to miss me that much.”
Zoya didn’t answer him right away, and he could already imagine the scowl on her face as she processed his words, and she was most likely thinking of the ways to murder him too. “Lantsov, what the fuck are you blabbering about?”
One of his legs was already down the grave, and Nikolai sent a silent prayer to any deity who could hear him. Please protect me from her wrath later. He tried to smile, but he was sure it looked more of a grimace. “Yes, dear. I’ll be home in a bit.” He risked a furtive glance to his older brother, who was still looking at him quite suspiciously. And to sound more convincing, he went along with his instincts and blurted, “Love you.”
Then he ended the call before he could be given an earful of curses that would send his mother to a dead faint if she would ever hear it. As he put his phone back in his pocket, he could feel his heart beating erratically in his chest. Whether it was over his nervousness over the mess he’d thrown himself into or the last words he told Zoya, he didn’t know.
When he turned his attention back to his brother, he found that Vasily had his eyebrows raised as if he still didn’t want to believe about Nikolai’s married status. Nikolai challenged his brother’s look with his own, and a moment later, Vasily huffed and shook his head.
Alexander glared down at Nikolai, a mixture of rage and confusion in his eyes, but it was the former that overwhelmed his gaze. “Who is she?” he asked, his tone demanding and angry. Nikolai suddenly felt nervous for no reason. His gut told him that there was something bad about to happen. An angry Alexander Lantsov wasn’t a man to be messed with, and Nikolai had just taunted the beast out of its cage. “And why didn’t you tell us?”
A wave of protectiveness washed over Nikolai, and he glared back at his father as he said, “So you can break the marriage before it even happened? I don’t think so.”
He grabbed the napkin at the side and used it to wipe at his hands before standing up. He was as tall as his father, but the old man always had the power to make someone shrink under his gaze, but Nikolai didn’t let it faze him.
The scowl on Alexander’s face deepened. “Where are you going?”
“Why, home to my wife, of course. She’s waiting,” replied Nikolai with a sneer, and he could already sense the last remains of his father’s patience dwindling with the way he gripped the table again. But Nikolai was disappointed when Alexander didn’t decide to act out on it. Politely, he said, “Thank you for dinner.”
With a final smile in his mother’s direction, he walked out of the dining room without as much as a glance back. When he felt that he was finally out of their sight, he let out a relieved breath. But there was still no denying that his hands were trembling as he got out of the mansion, and it wasn’t from the cold.
What had he just gotten himself into?
Nikolai shook himself out of his daze. At least he was out of their tight hold around his neck.
          For now.

Can someone at Disney explain to me why, out of ALL the villains that you could recontextualize into sympathetic anti-heros, you picked the puppy murderer who wanted to skin adorable innocent animals into coats? Like say what you want about Maleficent and how it's ruined Disney and Hollywood as a whole, at least she didn't perform animal cruelty!
Silly Taka, no one at modern Disney can think more than two moves ahead. They needed a girl-boss anti-villain! Could they have created a new one and had their first new merchandise mascot in almost a decade? -- when I say 'Merchandise Mascot', I'm referencing characters that are plastered onto so much merchandise that a good percentage of the population hasn't even seen the original films they come from, i.e.: Jack Skellington, Tinkerbell, Stitch -- Yes, but that's haaaaard~
Anon said: To be fair they could pull a maleficent and have this be an alternate timeline where she doesn't become a villain and skin puppies for a coat and they just chose cruella for the aesthetics. Or maybe they'll have the cruella personality somehow split off and whatever her actual name will have to fight her to keep the dogs safe god that dropped my iq typing that
People keep telling me that that's close to what they did... Which leads further into my frustrations of 'Disney, do something original for fuck's sake *looks at Raya* Not like that'
Anon said: Not only do the dalamations actually kill Cruella's mom, they did it in the stupidest way possible. Do they bite or maul her to death? No, one of them jumps on her and pushes her off a cliff and into the ocean.
Well, I mean, everyone knows that an average of 3 British middle-aged women are killed by level 20 Dalmatians using Tackle every year. It's common knowledge, anon, gosh.
Anon said: Just to play De Vil's advocate, her Stepmoms death isn't actually used to justify her puppy hatred, in fact it's not even really connected to why she wants a dalmatian coat, she's shown to like them towards the end of the movie, though with the implication she still wants to skin their babies for fashion. Imo the movie was pretty fun and she's still very much a villain protag where that scene is really only meant to further her grudge with the Baroness. The scene is still stupid though.
Okay, even if I tried to look at this through a similar perspective of someone like Wolf from Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts where a character is actively wearing the pelt of something that tried to kill her as a symbol of 'Fuck around and find out', it still feels like they handled it in a clumsy way here. Especially with 'Oh, I feel no grudge towards your kind... But I am still going to commit a crime against your species in the future, so keep an eye out~'
More and my responses beneath the break
Anon said: Actually if I had to say a few things about Cruella it's that it actually never delves into why she's so obsessed with furs. Fashion yes, but not furs specifically. General consensus I've heard though is that the movie could've been a really good standalone unconnected to any prior ips.
THAT'S ALL I WANT! FOR DISNEY TO JUST MAKE NEW IPs! I wouldn't care so much if we were following a murderous girl-boss anti-villain as long as we're not trying to woobify a pre-existing character who is already evil for evil's sake!
Anon said: Hey, since we're all collectively ragging on Cruella, thought I'd share something I stumbled on during a 2am YouTube crawl. Some dude on YouTube made a fake trailer for a theoretical Live Action Origin Movie about the dude that shot Bambi's mom
... As bad as this is for me to say, I wouldn't actually be opposed to watching a film following a guy who has essentially lost everything (job, family, house, etc.) and is living as a hermit in the forest. One day he happens upon a clearing full of animals and he needs to stock his rations for the upcoming winter and he manages to snag a doe.
Of course, as he's retrieving his kill, he sees the poor, now-orphan fawn looking at him in fear and horror before it bounds away into the woods. The rest of the movie is about the hunter trying to survive, thinking about his (mankind's) place in nature and just how much he should be taking and hurting to justify his own existence. The climax of the movie could be the fire but now written as a forest-clearing event that takes out the hunter's shelter and meager possessions. As he's trying to see what little can be saved, he hears a crack. Immediately grabbing for his gun, he takes aim and sees a buck. However... As both man and animal stare each other down, the hunter recognizes the buck as the same scared fawn from all those years ago.
And, thus... He lets him go. Bambi turns away and guides his family away from the burnt remains of the woods, and the hunter finally decides to go back to the city to try and rebuild a life without encroaching on the natural world.
Or something like that.
Anon said: You know who's actually a well written, sympathetic, female Disney villain, Demona from Gargoyles. An animated series from the 80s did a better job at giving a reason for being a villain than "wah, my mom got killed by Dalmatians but I'll still adopt them and use faux fur." I might even say Eclipsa from Star vs was a better "villain" than 2021 Cruella. I put " " because Eclipsa didn't really feel like a villain, more of a morally grey character IMO.
Sad to say, I doubt Disney will ever give us something in the same vein as Gargoyles anytime soon.
God... *holds back a scream* Season 4 of Star vs. would have been so much better if we just focused on Eclipsa and the other Queens of Mewni! Why couldn't Seasn 4 of Star vs. focused on Eclipsa and the other Queens of Mewni!!
Anon said: I feel like you probably could do a decent Cruella movie. A young woman starts her career in fashion at the bottom with earnest intentions to make an honest living. Heck she could be against fur in the beginning, but finds that she has to compromise more and more on her ethics until her rise to the top were she has lost all of her morality and no longer recognizes the person in the mirror. At that point, she's too far gone, and in the pursuit of even higher fashion heights, is willing to make a coat from puppies.
Anon, are you in my head? Because that's close to how I rewrote the premise of a movie like this when the trailer first dropped.

(sees another fandom that I can ask you about and cheers) Orphan Black! Thoughts? I don't know Dr Who but Tatiana is one of my favorite actors period.
Anon you are so sweet! I'm always happy to chat about fandoms and characters and whatnot, and I will never not appreciate the majesty of Tatiana's acting. That is one of the greatest parts of the show hands down.
Orphan Black, to me, is a show that had incredible potential, but didn't really live up to the excitement it created. (Loooong post ahead.)
The thing is, Orphan Black builds a chilling mystery and background, the world it gradually creates as it goes for about the first two seasons, got be very invested and made me wonder a lot about where it was going to go and what the answers were. The setup is brilliant, right from the start with that iconic cold open of Beth's suicide. The unknown is what really helped this show get as thrilling as it was, because the actual answers behind the unknown were kind of hit and miss, and it seemed like far too often, the show just wasn't interested in telling it's story. Hijinks where the clones impersonate each other in slice of life events? That's fun at first and it really works well as they're still getting to know each other. But after a while, it gets tedious, and it seems like the show would rather fuck around and have dance parties (seriously, that scene was such a #BigLippedAlligatorMoment) than focus on the story and the threat that the sisters are facing. Virtually all of Allison's plotlines are like this, they feel like they belong in a different show, and for some reason the writers insisted on giving her one of these storylines like, every season. After Allison passively murders her own friend out of suspecting that she's spying on her, I just don't feel like an arc about her running for some PTA office position even matters. It doesn't feel right.
Speaking of that, here's another example: Donnie. Why did the end of the first season suggest that he was this secret mastermind working for Leekie? The whole idea just deflates in Season 2 and doesn't really go anywhere. He just goes back to being the bumbling sweetheart he was before. Why even have him be the spy? Maybe it should have been Ainsley. Do you want to know the exact moment that I think Orphan Black went wrong? Like, the specific scene? When Leekie was killed off. The character who had thus far been the Big Bad, gets taken out in the stupidest possible way, a literal accident on Donnie's part, and it's even played for laughs. After that point, the show really struggled to regain it's footing, though I don't think it completely went off the rails until about Season 4, and it was still generally hit or miss. Like, some stuff was really good. The introduction of the Castor clones, the development of Rachel's character (I'll get to her, trust me.) and the reveal of Kendall Malone. But it seemed like so much else was just forgotten or otherwise not resolved. Whatever happened to Cal? Sure, the show wanted to focus on the sisters...but Kira deserves to know her father if she wants to. That's just one example. It's a crying shame because this show is sometimes incredible. The metaphor that I always use for situations like this, is a card game. The show has all the right cards in its hand, they're just not being played.
The two strongest characters, at least to me, were Rachel and Helena. One of these characters was superbly written and went through a devastating arc. The other was Helena. We need to talk about her. In Season 1, she really cemented herself as a memorable presence with her trademark accent, her scars, her whole damn personality (again, hats off to Tatiana) and of course, that iconic screechy theme music that accompanied her. Which at first made us jump, but eventually made us cheer. I adored Helena, and I loved the development of her relationship with Sarah. Who went from shooting her in Season 1, to being deadset on rescuring her in Season 3, being furious with Siobhan for betraying her. (This is unrelated but Siobhan has the same " twist villain fakeout" at the end of Season 1 that Donnie does, and it's quite frustrating.) And yet, I swear, the writers just didn't know what to do with Helena half the time. They put her on a bus for long stretches, including one point where she just up and leaves Allison's house in Season 4, for no given reason. And the characters just kind of...don't care. The same thing happens when she gets arrested. No one cares to try and find Helena, even though she's unstable and often a danger to those around her. Even though she's by herself with no real ability to function in society. Even though she's pregnant. There is no excuse for this, and no Sarah, that "I'm sorry, I avoided you" scene in Season 5 is not going to cut it. It's such an afterthought.
I'm being rather critical, but I hope you can tell that this is from a point of passion. I genuinely enjoyed this show and getting to watch it. Just that sometimes it didn't feel like the show cared that I was watching. However, this was not true whenever Rachel was onscreen. Look, I'm a Merula Snyde stan, so you can probably already guess how I feel about Rachel. Despite her crimes, despite her constant slipping back the dark side, I felt so bad for Rachel at the end of it all. That scene with Kira really sums it up. "Who hurt you?" "All of them." And no scene is more intense than when she stabs out the eye cam. Like, I'm sorry, I pitied Rachel pretty much from Season 2 on. Her parents were horrible to her, and I'm supposed to think Ethan is the good guy here? He kills himself in front of his own daughter, telling her that she doesn't deserve him. And then Sarah shoots a pencil through her eye, causing brain damage and requiring a long recovery. I'm not saying that Sarah was wrong to do what she did, just that if I were in her shoes, I'd still feel a degree of guilt for Rachel's condition. In the end, I'm devastated that she was barred from Clone Club, when she made the right decision at the point it mattered. But there's just too much history there, and Sarah won't ever forgive her. (Though again, I do feel as though there's blame to share.) Rachel is my favorite character and I never expected her to be. But she's just so complex. Side note: "Enjoy your oophorectomy" is so damn quotable. I don't know why but I love that line.
So, Rachel's my favorite. Who's my least favorite? It might surprise you. It's Delphine. I'm sorry, but I just...I couldn't get on board with C*phine. Not after Season 3. I was waiting for the point that the show would push to finally redeem Delphine for her turncoat role, for all of the hell that she put Cosima through. By Season 5 though? I realized that as far as the writers were concerned? She already was redeemed. Even though she did nothing to earn it, except be presumed dead by Cosima. The way she treats Cosima in Season 3 is actually disgusting. Her reasoning for breaking up with Cosima is circular. She has to love "all the clones" in order to be with Cosima, and the way to do that is to take over Rachel's job, which means they can't date anymore? I'm not the only one who thought that didn't make sense, right? Oh and let's talk about how she stalks Cosima's date, breaks into her house, and threatens her life. Red. Flags. Cosima even says the line, "If you're not going to be with me, just let me go." I'm sorry, that should not be something she has to beg for. Delphine's behavior made me want her to stay far, far away from Cosima. Who is, incidentally, a sweetie and I absolutely adore her. I legit have trouble remembering that Tatiana's playing her because she just looks and acts so different. That said, even though I immensely disliked Delphine, I am so very glad that they made one of the clones gay. Just like I'm glad that they made one of them trans. (Though...Tony wasn't handled especially well.)
In general, I do think the earlier seasons were stronger. The Brightborn arc, while interesting, didn't really contribute much to the overarching narrative. We got the backstory on Beth's suicide and finally learned the truth about her, I suppose. Still, even though Beth is one of my favorite of the clones, and I never expected her to be either...I feel like the actual reason given for why she took her own life was rather illogical. She apparently did it because the investigation was putting the clones in danger of another Helsinki. Okay, but just because Evie Cho says you should off yourself, doesn't mean you have to. You could just, like...stop investigating. And if you die under mysterious circumstances without explaining anything to the sisters, they're not going to be put off from the investigation. They're going to look into this even more, because they don't know why they're not supposed to. The reveal that she and Art fell in love toward the end adds an extra gut punch, but it also doesn't make sense because wouldn't Art have referenced it during the period that he thought Sarah was Beth? On the other hand, Season 4 also introduced MK. And I have such a soft spot for her. I adore that sheep-masked sweetie. Everyone always asks "Which clone would you date" (because fandoms can think of nothing else I guess) and I never see anyone give any love to MK. Her death absolutely tore me apart. I am glad Siobhan avenged her even if she went down at the same time. Side note, her last word being the affectionate "Chickens..." Broke me.
Season 5 was a strange beast. In general, it seemed like we were finally getting some answers to the questions that were hanging over us. Exploring the deep mythos. But then they kind of turned it around and made it just be a Wizard of Oz style fraud twist. Westmoreland isn't really inhumanly old, he's a charlatan. I don't know why that was necessary in a science fictional show. I've seen the interviews and I get what they were going for, it just feels like it would have been cooler and far creepier if he was actually that old. The puppet master pulling the strings the whole time. We also finally get some answers for Kira's superhuman healing abilities (though we never learn how she's telepathically connected to the clones) and I'm loving it, but the trouble is, it's inconsistent. Ethan "Why is this guy so popular, he's an asshole" Duncan told Rachel specifically that Sarah being able to have children was a fluke, that the clones were "barren by design." I don't know, the whole concept of Revival and of the "magical island" was really foreboding and tied in with the earlier references to The Island of Doctor Moreau. Especially that song about "Revival's Children" just...the shudders, man. But just having it be a regular old scam is...a letdown. I know it may be more realistic, but I don't always need realism in my scifi. The finale is interesting, in that it's mostly an epilogue. I'm glad the clones (sans Rachel) got to live happily ever after, but there are two gut punches right at the end that are total nitpicks but they bother me. Helena naming her kids after Art and Donnie? And writing a memoir that she names "Orphan Black?" Those two tropes can go die in a hole. They can enjoy an oophorectomy, because I'm so sick of them.
The potential of Orphan Black was practically infinite. The results of Orphan Black fell frustratingly short.

Part 30 - Lover’s Quarrel
Summary: Since you’re in hiding you barely see George. When he comes for a visit and brings bad news, you two have a fight in which both of you say things you might regret
Warnings: Angst
Word count: 2.5K
George Weasley x Reader
Masterlist
Tumblr media
It was another rainy afternoon at the Shell Cottage and you were about to make your third  cup of tea that day, given the fact that there was not much to do around here on the daily basis. Bill and Fleur were only coming home hours later so it was only you in the empty house. You had started to get used to it, but after the initial shock and anxiety had gone, you started to feel a bit… lonely.
You were staring at the boiling water, deep in your thoughts when a familiar sound of pop came from the backyard. You draw your wand in an instant and ran to the door, pointing at it. Your palms started to sweat.
There was a knock and you asked firmly, “Who’s there?”
“It’s me,” arrived the answer. You didn’t move.
“What did I say, who’s gonna win the second trial?” you demanded.
“You said Harry’s gonna come up first,” came the muffled sound from behind the door. “You lost the bet so you bought me a butterbeer in Hogsmeade. We saw the huge dog that day and then —”
“All right, all right,” you said, opening the door. On the threshold stood George, his wand pointing at you.
“My turn,” he said. You nodded.
“Okay.”
“And don’t open the door until we’re both sure!”
“Just ask the question,” you said impatiently.
“What was the first thing I ever said to you?”
“What? How am I supposed to remember that?”
“All right, then, what did I say to you, first thing, at the Yule Ball?”
“Er — that something… something’s gonna fly in my mouth if I don’t close it? Very rude, actually.”
“Good,” he said and stepped over the threshold. He closed the door behind him and wrapped you in his arms. Just when you hugged him back did you realize how much you’d actually missed him. He smelled like the jokeshop, in his hair you could feel the scent of the rain. For the first time in days you felt some kind of relief.
“I thought you were only coming tomorrow,” you said after you had let him go. “I wasn’t expecting you today.”
“Yeah,” he smiled weakly. He seemed very tired. “Something came up.”
“Tea?” you asked, looking at the dark circles under his eyes. He nodded.
“Sure. Thanks.”
You poured the hot water into a cup, watching from the corner of your eyes as George sat down to the table. He left on his jacket; he was drumming on the table with his fingers as he looked around the room. You took the cup over to him and sat down, too. You watched as he carefully took a sip from the hot drink.
“Is something wrong?” you asked. “You look weary.”
He ignored your question. He put down his cup with a soft clink.
“I need to talk to you,” he said.
“Oh… okay,” you said, concerned with his serious tone. “Is everything all right?”
He hesitated for a second then he reached for your hand and gently squeezed it.
“There’s no right way of saying this, so I’ll just say it. Y/N, I cannot come here anymore.”
Your heart missed a beat. You tilted your head suspiciously.
“What does that mean?”
He looked down at his cup, then took a deep breath. When his eyes met yours again, he spoke in a rather tormented tone.
“Have you read the paper?”
“Yeah. Bill always brings home the Daily Prophet after work.”
“Have you seen your name on the list?”
“The list of muggleborns who didn’t show up for their hearing?” you asked quietly. “Yeah, I’ve seen it.”
“And you know they soon enough start looking for you?”
“Well… I guess that’s inevitable,” you said tensely. “George, what’s going on?”
He paused again. He took his time taking a long sip from his tea.
“The thing is… The thing is the Ministry knows that some muggleborns are too scared to go abroad… and they think families of theirs are helping them to go into hiding. Which is probably the only thing the Ministry’s right about,” he added darkly.
“So… are you in danger now because of me?” you asked nervously. “I told you I should’ve gone to —”
“No, not at all. Witty, you’re… you’re in danger because of me.”
“I’m not following you,” you whispered. George looked at you, pleading.
“You need to understand… We’re being monitored. Mum and dad already are because of Harry, but recently Fred and I have been tracked as well. They know every move we make, they follow us everywhere. If I disapparate and apparate at the Burrow they’ll know at once. But… what if I disapparate and they don’t see me turning up at any place that has a connection to me? Wouldn’t you get suspicious?”
“Suspicious of what? There are thousands of places that you could go, why would they…”
“And the other thing is time,” he cut you off. “I’ve been coming here for three weeks, since you got your letter from Umbridge; I disapparate on the same day in the same hour and I apparate back within a few hours without them knowing where I had been. So what happens if I keep this up? They’ll start thinking ‘didn’t that Weasley had a muggleborn girlfriend who didn’t show up at her hearing? Is he hiding her somewhere? Well, we sure need to see where he goes every time he disappears, then’.”
“All right, stop,” you said. “You are so certain about this, but this is just speculation, nothing more!”
“Y/N, I cannot wait for it to become reality.”
“Then let’s think about it. Why would they know you’re coming here? Why would they even think about me hiding exactly here?”
“Because the Shell Cottage is Bill and Fleur’s house. It’s in the family. And I told you, they’ll check the family members first to see if we’re hiding you or not.”
“The house is protected by enchantments,” you started, determined to stay calm. However, your voice started to shake. “They cannot come here without us knowing about it first.”
“I cannot take any risks,” he said firmly. His tone scared you.
“So what are you saying? That you just… What? Should we meet somewhere else, then, somewhere where they can’t —”
“I think we shouldn’t meet at all.”
Your mouth opened slightly as you stared at him. The wind outside rattled the windows and rain was tapping on the glass.
“You don’t mean that,” you whispered.
He didn’t answer immediately. He took a long pause, taking another sip from his tea. It seemed to take him a lot of effort to meet your eyes.
“I mean it.”
“N — no, all right. Let’s talk about this before you decide —”
“I’ve already decided.”
“No, you haven’t!” you said, this time almost yelling in panic. “And don’t you think that I have a word in this as well?”
“I cannot take any risks, Y/N,” he said, this time more firmly. “I want to keep you safe.”
“Oh, how nice of you,” you said in a sarcastic tone. “What does Fred say about this?”
He chuckled darkly.
“He said you’re going to murder me.”
“Well, he’s right, then! I don’t understand, this is the stupidest idea I’ve ever heard!”
His smile faded. He was serious, almost cold.
“This isn’t just an idea. It’s settled.”
And he stood up from the table, letting go of your hand. You were seriously panicking now.
“Where are you going?”
“I’m leaving,” he was avoiding your eyes again. “I told you, I cannot come here. Please understand.”
“Well, I don’t understand!” you yelled. He never talked to you so distantly like this, and it scared you, it made you uneasy and worried. When he zipped his jacket, you stood up from the table, too, and cupped his cheeks.
“I’m leaving, Y/N,” he said, still not meeting your eyes. “Let me go.”
“No — no, please, don’t — don’t be so cold with me!” you pleaded as you tried to make him look at you. “Stay and… Stay. Please.”
You saw a sudden flash in his eyes and for a fragment of a second you saw the George you loved, the one with tenderness in his eyes, the one who looked at you with so much love, the one who hugged you so close every time you two met, the one who always caressed your hair so gently as if you were about to break, the one who kissed you morning and night, and the one who made you laugh like nobody else in the whole wide world…
But then the moment had passed and a stranger was standing in front of you again. It wasn’t your George. This man was cold and lifeless, who didn’t even look into your eyes. This man was rejecting, rude and indifferent. And you knew, deep down, that you were going to loose this battle.
“I’m leaving,” he said for the third time. He pulled your hands away from his cheeks. You couldn’t believe your eyes. “I’m sorry. It’s the right thing to do.”
“The right thing?” you repeated and you felt your insides suddenly boiling with anger. “It’s an awful thing to do!”
“Is it?” he said. “Is it so awful to keep you safe?”
“Keeping me safe?” you said and suddenly you were shouting. “You’re making me insane! How do you think it feels to be locked up here? I’ve been here for almost a month, I’m alone all the time because Bill and Fleur are working, and now you have the nerve to tell me you’re never gonna visit me again?”
“Y/N —”
“Shut up! A month ago you were so desperate about marrying me and now you want to leave me?”
“I don’t want to leave you, Y/N!” he said, now fuming as well. “I don’t want to, but I have to!”
“You don’t have to do anything!” you yelled. “If you wanted you could come up with a bloody solution within minutes!”
“Maybe I don’t wanna come up with anything!” he retorted in rage. “Maybe I know if I find a loophole I’ll damn sure use it, killing you in the process!”
“Killing me in the process?” you let out a fake laugh just to taunt him. “You’re using such big words when it is about keeping me safe but actually —”
He grabbed your hand and held it in front of your eyes. His suddennes made you silent.
“Let me remind you what happened to you, only because you were with me!”
You jerked your scarred hand away.
“You’re using my own argument against me! I told you exactly the same thing when I —”
“When you got the letter, I remember perfectly, believe me. And what happened then, eh? Who wanted to leave all of a sudden? Who wanted to pack and leave everyone behind to —”
“Well, you didn’t like that, did you? You pleaded me all to stay, but now it’s different? When it’s you who wants to leave, never seeing me again, you’re quite comfortable with it, aren’t you?
“I’m comfortable knowing that you’re okay without me!”
“Yeah? Why don’t we just break up, then?” you shouted derisively. “If that’s what you want? If your mere presence keeps me in danger? That’ll solve all our problems, wouldn’t it?!
“You know what, I happily break up with you, then!”
You both fell silent the moment the two of you realized what he had just said. The only sound in the house was the tapping of the rain and the rattling windows. However, you couldn’t hear it. In your ears blood was coursing through loudly, more painfully with every heartbeat. It seemed as though the thing you just heard was travelling through your whole body, reaching every part of you, making you feel shattered and crushed.
George took a shaky breath, staring at you. His expression changed completely; the coldness and the stiffness was gone. He was your George again. And now on his face despair and fear sat.
“I didn’t mean it,” he shook his head at once. “Y/N, I didn’t mean it.”
He took a step towards you, hoping. You instantly stepped back.
“Don’t.”
“Y/N, I didn’t mean it, I swear,” he said desperately. “Please, I didn’t mean it.”
“Leave,” you said suddenly. Your sharp voice echoed in the house. George looked like as if you just stabbed him.
“No — don’t push me away —”
“You wanted to leave, so leave!” you said. You were tearing up.
“No — Y/N, please,” he reached for your hand but you jerked it away.
“Don’t touch me,” you said miserably while tears started falling down on your cheeks. “You’re not supposed to be here, are you? Go on, then!”
“Witty —” he pleaded. You saw him tearing up, too, but you didn’t care.
“I don’t wanna see you anymore!” you shrieked, sobbing. “Leave!”
You might as well had slapped him. You saw him wince at your words, but then you couldn’t take it anymore. You backed away, till your back was against the wall and indicated at the door, not meeting George’s eyes.
“Go.”
He didn’t move at first. With every second he spent in the house he broke your heart more and more. Then from the corner of your eyes you saw him reaching for the doorknob and he stepped out into the rain.
He closed the door but you saw him through the window as he was walking towards a small hill, from which he could disapparate. Your eyes fell upon the cup that still had some cold tea in it. You wiped your tears away with your sleeve. Then you looked through the window again, seeing the ginger boy. He had almost reached the border.
Good. Let him go. You won’t miss him. You don’t need him.
No, don’t fool yourself. You were going to miss him. You were already missing him.
New tears made your eyes tingle again. You let out a sob.
What were you doing?
You watched as he climbed up the hill in the rain. His boots left deep footprints in the sand. He said he’d never come back. What… What if something happens and he never comes back?
Oh, God, what have you done?
You burst through the door, instantly stepping into a big puddle. Rain and tears mixed on your face as you were running towards the hill as fast as you could.
“Wait!” you screamed. “Wait!”
You were too far away.
“Wait!” you screamed again as George stepped outside the border of the charms. “Wait!”
He didn’t hear you. You could barely see from your tears.
“Wait!”
You were not fast enough. You were not loud enough. And then he disappeared from sight.
You stopped in your tracks, shocked. This couldn’t be. He’ll come back. He’ll come back!
“Come back!” you screamed into the nothingness. “Come back!”
But he didn’t. Taking a sudden gulp of air, you mumbled.
“I didn’t mean it… George…I’m sorry… I’m sorry…”
Wether your legs gave up or you just didn’t care anymore, you didn’t know. You sat down in the sand, your clothes soaking wet. Rain was falling so heavily now that you could barely make out the ocean next to the house. Its throbbing made it sound like you were sitting under a waterfall. It was ear-piercing. It was defeaning. But it was not loud enough to muffle your sobs.

Inure Ch. 4
SAVED WORK
Summary: To some, The Specter is a serial killer. To some, a hero. But to everyone, you were entirely a mystery. You had no history, just a list of victims a mile long. No matter how many people searched your name, they could find anything. If only they had the spelling right. Now, you’ve come across some unfortunate information that drives you out of your usual shadows and into the path of the Avengers. Including two of the more reclusive members of the team. And it’s hard to pick only one of them.
***
“I don’t see what the problem is!”
You scoffed, angry at Howard’s words. “Really. You really don’t see the issue?” He shrugged but stayed silent. “You invited a horde of reporters when I said that no one else should see this. That doesn’t seem like a problem to you?” Despite the anger you were feeling, you looked fairly calm.
You weren’t the type to lash out and scream whenever something went wrong and even in the toughest situations you were collected. It’s a trait that would stick with you for decades to come.
“We need people to know about this. They need to know that there’s hope at the end of this tunnel, okay? We’re doing miraculous things, excuse me if I’d like to show the world.”
You rolled your eyes at his excuse. “Oh please, Stark. You just want an early payday. Not everything can be about your bank account. Especially in the middle of a war! People are dying Howard. We don’t need a media storm to distract us.” He huffed and sat down on one of the many stools you had around your lab. It wasn’t the fanciest place, but the army needed all the weaponry it could get and when they heard about you, they didn’t hesitate to give you a lab. Of course, your skills were always in question, as with most women, but for the most part, they left you alone. You had Peggy to thank for that.
“Look, let’s just give them a quick tour, tell them about SPECTR, and turn it on for a minute. 60 seconds, that’s all I ask.”
“Absolutely not.” You weren’t budging on this. Usually Stark was able to get you to agree to his stupid plans, but you had friends fighting in this war. Peggy had friends fighting this war. You weren’t going to see them dead just because you got distracted by cameras.
For a genius, Howard was probably one of the stupidest people you had ever met. Of course, he could invent beautiful things, but then he’d go and do something like this. Inviting reporters to see a project that was far from done. This wouldn’t give people hope.
“40 seconds, c’mon Doc. On and off, just so they know it works.”
“But it doesn’t work!”
“Well that’s why I’m saying 40 seconds!” He sighed, taking in a deep breath. “I understand, but don’t you think that’s a little unfair to me? C’mon Doc!”
You groaned, not dignifying him with an answer. You walked over to your machine, choosing to work more on the control panel outside the glass. The door to the machine was locked tight, keeping everyone out. It could be opened from the inside, but opening it from the outside took a specific keycard. As of now, there were four of them. Yours, Howard’s, Peggy’s, and an extra for high-ranking guests that entered your lab.
The control panel was still malfunctioning. It was the main reason you were saying no to Howard. You couldn’t risk something going wrong.
“You’ve gone over that panel 50 times.”
“If we want to help people, we have to be sure it won’t hurt them.” You said, looking at the buttons and making sure they worked. “Check the air compressors, okay? That machine gets too hot, I need to make sure those work. If it overheats, it’ll do the exact opposite of what we want.”
You could hear Howard mumble under his breath about how he was ‘certain that they worked’, but you ignored it and went back to your work.
You heard his voice shout at you from across the room.
“L/n?”
You didn’t respond, too focused on one of the buttons that wasn’t responding properly. It was the one meant to open the door with a small key card like invention. You took yours out and tested it a few times. It wasn’t responding correctly. You rolled your eyes and took out a few tools to fix it.
“L/n. Hey, Doc?”
You still didn’t respond, too focused on the task at hand.
***
“Doc? You good there?” You looked up, Tony’s face staring back at you.
You blinked a few times before coldly responding. “I’m fine.” You took another second before looking around. The lab’s lights were dimmed, which wasn’t surprising considering that it was about 4am.
“Alright then. As I was saying, this is definitely Hastings’ blood. I’ve ran it through every test I’ve got, every single match was positive.”
“He’s dead. Believe me, he’s dead. I always double check. A while ago I ran into someone who could regenerate. Had to kill him twice. Now, I just make sure I get it the first time.”
“Listen, I’m not doubting you, but are you sure?”
You rolled your eyes at him. He was so like Howard it bothered you. Even down to his nickname for you. “Doc”. “Well, that sounds exactly like you’re doubting me.”
“Okay, I’m doubting you,” he admitted. “But this is a perfect match. If this guy has been dead for years, I don’t think I need to explain why he couldn’t have robbed a museum.”
“Well, obviously.”
You looked over the matches again. Each result was perfect or near perfect. Not that you had much blood to test, but it was enough.
“Wanda might be right with her shapeshifter theory.” You heard from across the room. Bruce had joined you in the lab, though he was more interested in you for the time being. He had agreed to help find Hastings or his copycat and you agreed to let him research you. He was studying something under a microscope. You weren’t sure what he was looking at, but it seemed like he was comparing two samples.
“We have blood and it’s completely separate from the body. Can he really shift down to the molecular level and keep it that way after it’s away from his body?” You asked, not entirely sure. The scientist in you said it was impossible, but a few years ago New York got attacked by an alien race led by a Norse god, so you had really changed your definition of the word “impossible”.
“Maybe once it leaves the body, it retains its last form. If anything, it would make sense that the blood doesn’t have the ability to shift back when it’s away from its host.”
“Well, that’s one theory,” Tony said, thinking it over.
Of course, that wasn’t helpful at all. “So, our culprit is most likely a shapeshifter. How do we proceed?”
Tony and Bruce thought it over. “I’ll go inform everyone, they might have some ideas. Maybe you can find some way to make him revert back to his original form.” Bruce said, slowly walking toward the lab’s exit. You and Tony nodded and started looking over the limited information you had.
It was silent for a minute or two, the both of you working quietly on something. You were looking into a microscope, trying your best to compare it to a normal human sample. So far, nothing noteworthy. “Hey, Doc, when you built this thing, did you know it could turn into a giant weapon, or was that just an oversight.” You couldn’t entirely tell if Tony was joking. It seemed like something he’d want you to laugh at, but you still weren’t sure.
“Just work, Tony. If you find something, then talk to me. Otherwise I’d appreciate quiet.” You said harshly. It sounded meaner than you thought it would, but Tony was a Stark. You doubted he had any feelings anyway.
“Okay, let me ask you a question.” He said, slightly agitated by your response.
You sighed, “I have a feeling you’ll find a way to ask me whether I say yes or no.” You didn’t look up from the microscope, knowing Tony probably wouldn’t care.
“Why exactly do you hate me?” He asked. The question was sincere, but the tone of his voice made it sound sarcastic.
“What makes you assume I hate you?” Of course, you really did hate him. But you hadn’t murdered him yet, so you were doing better than you thought you would.
“Well, we haven’t exactly been best friends.” He says, looking at you. You had only looked away from your microscope to check some of the information you had gathered about Hastings. Nothing useful.
“Perhaps that’s because there’s a shapeshifter trying to murder people with a makeshift weapon that I invented.” Your voice stayed fairly monotone. You were only half paying attention to what Stark said.
“Well, yes. But you’ve been tolerating the company of most people here. Just thought maybe I did something. Which, hey, I’m not perfect.”
You nodded. “Yes, Stark. You are far from perfect.” You still didn’t look up to meet his gaze.
“See! This is what I mean.” He didn’t sound rude, which is what you were expecting. Instead he seemed to want an answer. Admittedly, this wasn’t the outcome you were looking for.
“Well, Stark. Maybe you’re just not as charming as you think you are, hm?” You said, glancing up for only a moment before looking back down. “I’ve seen your press conferences. That outrageous confidence. I’ve seen you flying around, thinking you’re this world’s savior. You treat everything like a joke. There always has to be a punchline with you, something sarcastic. Talking to people like you’re some kind of god.”
He sighed, taking a moment to think of something to say. “Well, you may have seen me on TV, but you haven’t gotten a chance to actually know me. I mean, yeah, I’ll give you the sarcasm one you’re pretty spot on, but I’m hardly as confident as I look in front of those people.”
“I’ve seen you from afar. That’s good enough.” You said simply, trying to get him to be quiet so you can go back to working in silence.
“So you’re not going to try to have a real conversation with me? Who knows, you might hate me slightly less.” This time you didn’t respond, hoping he realized this conversation was going nowhere.
He reminded you of Howard more than you’d like to admit. But he certainly had his differences. “You’re an idiotic genius who thinks he’s a god on Earth. I’ve seen you Stark. What you do, who you are. I know everything I need to.”
He seemed upset, almost offended. “I understand, but don’t you think that’s a little unfair to me? C’mon Doc!”
That made you stop. You took a deep breath, trying to calm yourself. You weren’t sure what emotion you were feeling. It certainly wasn’t sadness, but it wasn’t quite anger either. More like an upsetting mix of several emotions, all making each other worse.
Then you laughed. It was a humorous laugh, but an empty one.
“You sound just like him.” Now you were actually looking at Tony, tracing the outline of his face with your eyes.
“Uh… who?” Stark said, looking fairly confused. He was probably somewhat creeped out by you staring at him, but you didn’t really care.
“Howard. He said that to me once.” You had abandoned your work, now more focused on the man in front of you.
“Right. I forgot you and Capsicle lived in the 40s.” You could tell he wasn’t quite sure how to respond. Not that you blamed him.
“You’re very alike you know. Dumb. But the stuff you build makes it seem like you’ve got a real brain in your head.”
“…thank you?” He said, thinking over your words.
“You’re also both arrogant assholes.” You said, not really considering his feelings. In your experience, feelings were too bothersome. Sometimes, you’d get attached to people you had to kill. That was never helpful.
“Hey, I thought you 40s people were supposed to be polite and stuff.” You only shrugged in response.
“Howard was awful. The bane of my very existence. I thought we were friends, but I was extremely wrong.” You looked straight at Tony, your eyes darkening as they stared into his. “If I give you a chance, Tony. If I get to know you and make a real attempt to become your ‘friend’, then you will do the same. You are a Stark, after all.” You said, stating the reason for your decision.
Tony got more serious too. “Look, I’m sorry for whatever he did. Clearly, he, uh, did something pretty bad. I don’t blame you. But whatever it was, I didn’t do it. I never asked for him to be my father. Don’t group us together.” You could tell you had struck a bit of a nerve. You doubted anyone could hate Howard Stark as much as you, but you were starting to hate his son a little bit less.
***
“You seem tired.” Bucky noted from the kitchen. He was reaching up to grab some chips while you stood across the room. It was midday, so almost everyone had something to do, leaving the two of you alone.
You had a proper sized glass of whiskey in your hands, much different from your usual full glass.
You rolled your eyes at him. “Yeah, thanks.”
He seemed a bit worried, “Not in a mean way, you just seem, I don’t know, less energetic?”
He was right. Since you had moved in to a strange place with people you didn’t know, it had gotten harder to sleep. You decided to let yourself adjust. These were heroes, they weren’t going to murder you in cold blood.
And then you remembered that you’re a wanted serial killer, which put you even more on edge. Of course, without you they wouldn’t have as much information about SPECTR, but that didn’t help ease your worries.
Instead, you had spent a good amount of your time in the gym. It had been a while since you’d had a place to work out alone. While you were enjoying the alone time, the lack of sleep was starting to get to you.
“Yeah, I don’t feel too energetic. Just a bit sleepy I guess.” You told Bucky, choosing not to discuss your sleep issues.
“Fair enough.” He said, putting a few chips in his mouth and biting down. The crunch filled the empty silence and you chose to walk toward the living room area. As expected, Bucky silently followed you and you turned on some older movies. Though Tony had a limited number of 1940’s movies, modern movies and TV shows weren’t all that bad. When you were a child, the special effects would’ve entranced you. Now, you let Bucky choose which movies to watch. He seemed to understand that superheroes and serial killers didn’t really like action movies. You saw enough of that in real life, though there were a few interesting ones out there.
As you sat with Bucky watching some feel-good movie, your mind drifted a bit. You found yourself wondering what Loki would’ve thought. The thought was fleeting at first, but the more you considered it, the weirder you felt. It had been decades since you’d had a real friend, much less two. Besides, it didn’t hurt that two literal superheroes wanted to spend time with you.
You found yourself moving closer to Bucky, letting your head fall on his shoulder. Truthfully, you didn’t think much of it. You felt like putting your head down and Bucky happened to be there. The action was simple.
Your eyes fluttered closed barely 20 minutes in and Bucky noticed how your breathing had evened out. He smiled softly to himself and turned down the volume so it wouldn’t wake you up.
***
“So, we have no idea who they are or where they’re going next. Any thoughts?” Steve asked the group. They all looked at each other, hoping someone would speak.
You glanced across at Bucky who seemed to be staring at everyone but you. He never looked in your direction during meetings. Normally, you wouldn’t mind, but a small part of you was disappointed.
“If we ran into him, Wanda could scan his head, right? Like, tell us who he is?” Clint asked. The question wasn’t really directed at anybody, but Wanda was the one who answered.
“Sort of,” she began. “It is more like sensing someone. Not exactly mind reading. And if I don’t know the person I’m looking for, it’s not very helpful.” She said, slightly disappointed. Mind reading. Now there’s something you could do.
You were going to speak, but Loki beat you to it. “Mind-reading is a magical art, though it is one I have never trained in. I don’t have a proper teacher, so I doubt it will be adequate, but I could try to find some books on it.” He suggested.
Steve nodded and you spoke up before anyone could say anything else. “Actually, I can read minds. I don’t use it often, but it’s not difficult for me.” The group had mixed reactions. Some seemed glad they had someone in the group who could help, but others seemed more wary of you now.
“You may be a good teacher then. This may be easier than I thought.” Loki said, smiling at you. You smiled back at him. You inwardly questioned why you automatically smiled, it wasn’t something you found yourself doing often. In an odd way, you liked it. Loki seemed to have that sort of calming air about him, despite what the media may say about him.
“Okay, so we have one mind-reader and two sorta mind-readers. How does that help us find him?” Tony questioned.
“Maybe we set a trap.” Natasha suggested. She shifted her vision to you, “Spectr, did you have any other parts that can’t be replicated?”
You thought over everything you made. You shook your head. “Everything else can be replicated with a little bit of time and effort.” You said, not thinking of everything.
“But they don’t have time. We’re coming after them, they must know that. So, if you were building the machine again today, what would take the most time.” She said, still looking at you. The rest of the group was also looking. It was beginning to make you a bit self-conscious.
“Our core was a complicated thing. To be honest, we didn’t even know what it was. Now that I’m here, 70 years later, it was probably something magical. But then we had no idea. The container I made for it took me longer than I’d like to admit. With the modern tools I’ve seen, I’m sure it would take less time, but I know it wouldn’t be quick without blueprints. I had to test it over and over before I finally got something. And building it took forever.”
Natasha nodded. “So, we start there. Where would that core be?” She asked, still looking at you.
“I have no idea. I never bothered to do research on where it went or if it survived.” She then glanced at Steve who was already looking at a screen in front of him.
“Steve and I found a list of World War II machinery that might be yours.” Natasha explained. You stood up, standing by Steve and looking at the pictures.
You didn’t spot anything that resembled your core at all. You sat back down, unsure how to continue.
Natasha was thinking too. Then, Wanda spoke. “Well, if he can’t find the real machine, then he’d want blueprints, right?” The group nodded. “So, where would he get those?”
You had limited tangible blueprints. Though every other inventor in the world would scold you, you liked to sit down and tinker. Sometimes, you made something odd and useless. Other times, you made things like a core stabilizer.
“From the file I got, he already has most of the blueprints that exist. Everything else is my head. No tangible papers.”
Wanda’s eyes darkened. “So, he’ll be coming for you.”

"i'm gonna kiss you right now" for rowaelin
Ok so I used this prompt to make a part 2 for Drunk Mistakes (I really want to kiss you right now prompt)!! I hope you guys like this because I had fun writing it. It is heavily inspired on a conversation I’ve had with my best friends
Drunk Mistakes (part 1)
Tipsy kisses
--
Rowan’s eyes narrowed slightly, as if he was trying to read into her words.
Aelin’s heart was beating so fast that maybe Rowan was narrowing his eyes because even he could hear it. Underneath the covers, Aelin twisted her hands, both of them starting to sweat.
“Nothing at all?”
She shook her head, getting up from the bed. If he kept staring at her like that, she’d probably break and commit the same mistake from the night before. All Aelin wanted was for Rowan to drop the subject and believe that she was just a blabbering drunk. She just wanted him to forget last night.
“Did I do something? You know how I get when I get drunk like that.” She said, forcing worry and curiosity in her voice but not turning her face to him. She entered her bathroom and Rowan, thank the gods, didn’t follow.
She looked at herself in the mirror and almost gasped. A corpse looked better than her at that moment. Smeared makeup, the hair a mess and huge bags under her eyes, the pounding headache wasn’t the only thing a hungover brought to her. “Fuck, I look hideous.”
She was trying to change the subject, trying to make things seem natural again. Judging by Rowan’s silence, it wasn’t working.
“Ro.” She called again, finally looking back at him through her reflection in the mirror. “Did I do something?”
Rowan stared at her for a few seconds before shaking his head. “No. No, you didn’t.”
Aelin nodded back, a forced smile on her lips. She couldn’t tell if she was happy or disappointed with his answer.
—————
Six weeks. It had been six fucking weeks from her little drunken incident and Rowan was still acting strange around her.
Whenever she thought of it, Aelin wanted to cry. This is why she didn’t want to tell him about her feelings. This is why she didn’t want to make a move on him. If he was all tense and strange after hearing her say she wanted to kiss him while drunk, Aelin couldn’t phantom what he would do if she had said the words sober.
Maybe a restriction order. Or just finding excuses to not even look at her when they went out, even if he was already doing that.
“I hate this.” Aelin murmured, taking a deep chug of her beer. She was a little tipsy and the beer sent a rush to her head. “And I hate beer.”
“No, you don’t. You love beer, you’re just bitter lately.” Fenrys answered, putting an arm over her shoulders and pulling her close. Aelin laid her head on his chest, groaning quietly. “Just talk to him.”
“Last time I talked to him in a bar, I fucked it up and that’s why things are the way they are.” Aelin grumbled and Fenrys only chuckled, rubbing her arm with his hand. “Gosh, I’m an idiot. Four years. I managed to keep my mouth shut for four years and then I get drunk one night and fuck it up.”
Fenrys wasn’t surprised at the words. He had been her friend for much longer than she had known Rowan. Actually, both of them met four years ago because of Fenrys. Both he and Rowan were planning on going to pre-med, and were to be roommates during freshman year of college. Fenrys threw a party during the summer and that’s when Aelin met Rowan.
Since the beginning Fenrys had been the first person to know about Aelin’s feelings towards Rowan. The other four people were Manon, Lys, Elide and Dorian. Manon and Dorian were currently traveling the world in their gap year, only sometimes stopping by Orynth. Elide and Lysandra knew everything, but Fenrys had always understood better. She didn’t even had to tell him four years ago, the asshole just guessed.
After that Aelin was more careful in expressing herself with Rowan when there were other people around.
“Everyone makes drunk mistakes, baby.” He said, voice always carefree.
“You were supposed to stop me from making this certain mistake!” She smacked him across the chest. That had been their pact; Fenrys wouldn’t let Aelin confess her feelings when she was under distress, sad, overjoyed or, as he had failed, drunk.
“I tried! I fucking came by and swept you away, it’s not my fault you have this big ass mouth.” He hissed when she hit him again. “You were dancing with Vaughan and then I blink and, oh gods, where is Aelin?”
Aelin huffed a laugh at the sarcasm in his voice. “Three seconds earlier and I wouldn’t be in this situation right now.”
Fenrys laughed, ending his beer. He put the bottle on the table with a loud thud and everyone around them, including Rowan, turned to them. That was the first time during the night that he had looked at her and not averted his gaze quickly. His eyes narrowed a tiny bit while he watched Aelin and Fenrys. When Fenrys put his hands on her shoulders and drew her away from his chest, Rowan shook his head quickly and turned back to talk to Lyria.
“You want my advice?” Fenrys said, looking her dead in the eye. Aelin laughed at his sudden seriousness.
“Yes, give me all your extensive knowledge.”
“Smartass.” He replied, not letting go of her shoulders. “I fuck up a lot—”
“I have noticed, yes.” Aelin nodded solemnly.
“I will gag you if you don’t shut up.” When she didn’t say anything, he continued. “As I fuck up a lot, I know when a situation needs disfucking—“
“Did you just say disfucking?” She was either a little bit more than tipsy or Fenrys was just being his usual self.
“For the love of the gods, will you let me finish? Yes, disfucking. When you un-fuck what you fucked up.”
Yeah, just Fenrys being his usual self.
“Fuck down then?”
“Disfucking.”
Aelin was bitting her cheeks to keep herself from smiling. This was the stupidest conversation she had ever had and the alcohol made it ten times funnier.
“Proceed. How do I disfuck Rowan?”
“How do you what?” Vaughan who was passing nearby stopped, eyes wide and brows furrowed.
“Oh, gods.” Fenrys rubbed his temples, sighing and looking at Vaughan. “Disfuck. Now get out.”
“What the hell does that mean?” Vaughan said, turning to Aelin.
She shrugged. “Un-fuck what you fucked up.”
“Fuck down?”
“No!” Fenrys shouted and everyone looked at him again. “Disfuck and fuck down are different.”
“What the hell?” Lorcan sitting by Rowan’s side murmured.
“Mind your own business, M-rated Grinch.” Fenrys snapped at Lorcan and this time Aelin could help but laugh. She was almost doubling over when Fenrys turned to Vaughan. “You get the fuck out.” He turned to her. “And you, baby, shut the hell up and hear my teachings.”
She nodded, breathing hard. She looked at Rowan again to see him with furrowed brows. He turned away again. She sighed.
“You won’t disfuck this situation.” Fenrys explained. “It won’t help, it’s already too throughly fucked.”
“Wow, thanks.”
“What you will do, is kiss Rowan.” Fenrys finished, flashing her a smile.
“Someone needs to disfuck your brain. How is that supposed to help?”
“It won’t. He thinks you don’t remember but he does remember. He won’t forget. If the relationship is destroyed, at least get the kiss you’ve wanted for four years.”
“He’s right.” Vaughan added quietly.
“Bloody gods, you’re still here.” Fenrys turned to his brother-in-law. “Didn’t I tell you to piss off?”
“I was curious.” He shrugged, approaching Fenrys and Aelin. “But he’s right. Everything already went to shit, so why not?”
Aelin’s heart constricted at the words. “The two of you are so, so helpful. I feel much more comforted now that you guys said my relationship with my best friend is ruined.”
“They have no social skills, that’s why. It’s a wonder they can ever have a conversation with other people.” Lyria said, coming on their direction. “But they’re right, you should kiss Rowan.”
“You can’t have one private conversation these days.” Fenrys grumbled and Lyria hit him in the back of the head.
Aelin ignored him and turned to one of her closest friends. “You think?”
“I mean, yeah. I’ve known you for four years and Rowan for longer than that. I have been wondering why the two of you haven’t done it yet.” Lyria said, her voice calm and steady. She smiled knowingly at Aelin.
“Isn’t he your ex? You’re trying to pair up your best friend and your ex?” Fenrys butted in.
“You can’t have one private conversation these days.” Lyria mimicked Fenrys and the two immediately started bickering as usual.
Aelin stared at them for a few seconds before turning to Vaughan. “Can you take Lorcan away from Rowan?”
“Anything for you, princess.” Vaughan smiled at her, turning around and starting to walk to the bar. “Salvaterre, drinking competition. You say no, you’re a spineless coward and I’m showing Elide your baby pictures.”
Aelin watched as Lorcan immediately got up, following Vaughan as he threatened her friend.
Without giving herself time to consider what she was about to do, Aelin drowned the rest of her beer and got up. Her head was buzzing and she didn’t know if it was the alcohol or the adrenaline. She dodged Lyria who was still standing near Fenrys, arguing with him. With a purposeful stride, Aelin walked up to where Rowan was sitting. He saw her seconds before she stopped in front of him, brows high.
“You ok?” He said when she stood before him.
“Are you drunk?”
“No.” He answered, and Aelin could hear the confusion on his voice.
“Neither am I. A little tipsy, but that’s besides the point. And I lied six weeks ago.” She said, voice coming out rushed. Her heart was thundering and her mind was racing. She was feeling an adrenaline rush and would probably want to murder Fenrys, Vaughan and Lyria when it ended. “I was drunk, but I remembered the whole night.”
Rowan’s eyes widened at that, and some sadness took over his expression. “You lied?”
“Yeah, sorry. I thought that you were giving me an out the following morning. Because, you know… I said I wanted to kiss you and you didn’t want that.”
“I—“ Rowan started, dumbfounded.
“But it doesn’t matter, because I can’t disfuck it so I am going to kiss you.”
“You will?” Aelin sworn she could see Rowan fighting a smile.
“Yeah.” She nodded at herself. “I’m gonna kiss you right now.”
Aelin grabbed Rowan’s face in her hands, stepping in between his legs. The second before Aelin’s lips met his, she could see him finally smiling.
Rowan’s hands went immediately to her waist when her lips touched his. Rowan’s mouth was warm and soft against hers, and Aelin sighed contently. He drew her closer, and Aelin felt her body flushed against his. Aelin skimmed her hands from his face to the back of his neck, fingers playing with his hair. When Rowan’s tongue swept over her bottom lip, Aelin opened her mouth and would have probably moaned if they weren’t in public.
They kissed until Aelin lost track of time, mouths and tongues moving against each other, his fingers hugging her waist and hers playing with his hair.
When they finally drew apart, both were breathing hard, a small smile on Rowan’s lips and a very satisfied one on Aelin’s.
“So this is disfucking.” She said after breathing in, voice raspy.
“What the hell is disfucking?” Rowan’s brows furrowed, but he was still smiling.
Aelin merely stepped forward again, catching his lips with hers.

twenty dollar baby III ☆ ricky bowen
Tumblr media
ricky does whatever he can to apologize to y/n, and has to face someone else
warnings: swearing, angst
part I , part II , part III
♡ ♡ ♡ ♡
“I’m such a fucking idiot. How could I be so fucking stupid?”
Your soft cries echoed through the bare halls. The iciness of the cold tiles underneath your palms tingled through your arms, causing you to shiver. The inside of your head felt cloudy, racing in circles and trying to keep steady. Gravity overcame you, making it nearly impossible for you to get up on your own. Slowly, you managed to sit up from the ground, leaning your back against the metal lockers and bringing your knees to your chest. You rubbed your swollen eyes, harshly running your hands across your skin. You steadied your breath, wiping off the remaining tears from your cheeks.
“Y/N?”
You didn’t bother to turn your head to see who called, the familiar high-pitched voice gave away who it was.
“Oh my god, what happened?”
Carlos’ rapid footsteps grew louder, and soon he was kneeling down in front of you. He pushed back the strands of hair covering your face.
“Where’s Ricky?”
You rolled your eyes, running your hands through your scalp and throwing your hair back. Carlos stood up, holding his hand out for you to hold. Taking his offer, you lazily got up from the floor and bit the inside of your lip. It didn’t take long for him to figure out what happened, so he immediately threw his arms around your shoulders and brought you into his grasp. You clutched your arms around him, feeling the build up of another breakdown release. He stroked your hair soothingly while you cried into his shoulder.
“Let’s go back inside the auditorium. We can talk somewhere more private.”
➢➣ ➢➣
Ricky ran through every inch of the school’s hallways. After you had stormed out of the library, Ricky panicked as to what he should do. Big Red’s advice was to find you and apologize.
Here he was, running around for about ten minutes trying to find you again. His last resort was to go to your locker, hoping you would be there like this morning.
He was about to turn the corner, until he rammed into another person on the other side.
“Sorry about that.”
“What’s wrong, Ricky?”
He turned around to look back at the voice who called for him. There stood Nini, giving him a worried look.
“You and Big Red ran off. Red came back a while ago, so I came to look for you. And I was hoping we could continue our conversation earlier.”
Thoughts began to race around his head. The girl that he believed he really liked and would be with for a long time wanted to be with him again. But why was it so different for him this time? He wasn’t the same person he was weeks ago, he felt a lot different.
“Nini, I’m sorry.”
She looked at him confusingly. “Why?”
“I know you broke up with EJ for me, but we can’t get back together.”
Her smile dropped, feeling a wave of sadness hit her.
“You were such a good girlfriend, but we weren’t meant for each other. We’re two totally different people, and you deserve someone better than me.”
She hugged her arms together. “I guess you’re right, we were never good at the romantic stuff together, huh?”
His shook his head, “We were always better at friends, maybe it should stay like that.”
She smiled again, “You’re looking for Y/N, right?”
Ricky nodded his head quickly, hoping she knew where you were. “Do you know where she is?”
“Carlos took her backstage, but I think Red is talking to her right now. She looked pretty upset.”
“I wonder why.” Ricky mumbled, “Thank you, Nini, for everything.”
She stood in front of him, reaching her arms up around his neck and hugged him tightly. Hesitant at first, he wrapped his hands around her waist.
This feeling was something that he wished for for a long time after they broke up. He always wanted to hug her like this, but now he was more than happy that he was hugging his friend again.
➢➣ ➢➣
Carlos tossed a water bottle towards where you sat on one of the chairs by the makeup counter. You caught it, struggling to open with your unsteady hand. He took you to dressing rooms, making sure everyone was out with Miss Jenn running through the scenes. He sat down next to you, turning his body to face you completely.
“What kind of sick person makes a bet on a person? He’s such an asshole.” He sneered.
Your head throbbed from the dehydration you felt. You tried your best to massage your forehead, hoping to get rid of the pain.
“I’m just an idiot.” You sighed.
“No, Y/N, Ricky’s the idiot.”
“I really thought that he liked me. He made me feel so special.”
“That’s what guys like him do. They make you feel like nothing matters but you, but they just want to get inside your pants. I know you liked him, but Ricky and his friend are just the scum of the world.”
Two quiet knocks from behind the door interrupted your conversation. You both looked at each other before Carlos got up. He turned the door handle and opened it slowly, groaning when he saw who stood by.
“Y/N, it’s one of the scums.”
You looked ahead to see Big Red. He held hands together in front of him, slouching his head towards the floor. Once he finally looked up at you, his breath was shaky.
“Can I talk to Y/N alone, please?” He muttered sadly.
“And what makes you think you deserve to talk to her?” Carlos snapped.
“I don’t, but she deserves an apology.”
“You can talk to her in the corner while I sit and watch over you.”
Red nodded his head as he made his way to the chair next to yours. Carlos sat two seats away from you, making sure to be close and ready to comfort you if you need him.
“Y/N-”
“You’re sorry, I know.” You mumbled.
“What I did, it was a real dick thing to do. I should have never made that deal with him. I just felt so bad that he couldn’t get over Nini. He needed to move on.”
“So you made a bet for him to get a girlfriend?” You cut him off.
“I don’t know what I was thinking. He’s my best friend, and he was so stuck up on her that he needed to find someone new. I shouldn’t have picked you, especially since I knew how close you two were.”
You shook your head, “That doesn’t justify it.”
“It doesn’t. I’m an idiot, I know that. But he became a different person with you. When he passed by Nini in the hallway he barely noticed her. He wouldn’t shut up about you. He really did like you.”
“That’s not what I heard in the library.”
“What you heard wasn’t the complete story.”
Your phone dinged on the counter. You read the screen, seeing as it was a text from your mother asking where you were. You breathed heavily through your nose.
“I have to go now.” You said, getting up from your seat and motioning for Carlos to come with you.
“Wait,”
You and Carlos turned back towards Big Red. He walked up to you frantically. “I’m really sorry, for everything.”
You felt your body tense, your eyes began to water again. “I know, it’s fine. I just have to think.”
Red nodded, staring back down at the floor again.
“Thank you,” You started, “for apologizing. It means a lot.”
“I just hope Ricky does the same. You didn’t deserve to go through with what we did.”
Your breath hitched, you didn’t want to even think of seeing him again. Carlos wrapped his arm around your shoulder, nodding towards the door.
“Bye.” Red waved.
You gave him a half smile, turning around and leaving the dressing room and out the auditorium.
➢➣ ➢➣
“You want to get something to eat before we go home? I could really use a breather before I have to explain everything to my mom.” You offered.
You and Carlos had just exited the school’s main doors. The sky was bright, burning your eyes the moment you looked up. The breeze brushed through you, sending a refreshing shiver to your skin.
“Sounds perfect, but I’m paying. I’m treating you for, like, the rest of the year.”
A small smile grew on your lips. You grabbed your car keys from your jacket pocket, searching for the button to unlock your car. Once you found it, you looked ahead to point the button in your car’s direction, only to see Ricky standing by your door.
Your smile dropped, and suddenly you felt your body start to shake like earlier. The heavy breathing that come out your mouth and welled up tears building in your eyes made you feel dizzy.
Ricky watched you, slowly getting teary eyed as he watched you slowly break down in front of him. He wanted to run up and hold you in his arms like before. He wanted to tell you he was so sorry for everything and tell you that it would all be ok.
“I’m going to murder him.” Carlos began to stomp towards Ricky, making him back up farther in the parking lot.
You yanked at Carlos’ shoulder, preventing him from going any closer to Ricky. He looked at you in confusion.
“I left my phone in the dressing room. Can you get it for me, please?”
“There is no way I am leaving you alone with him.”
You gave him a look, letting him know you would be alright. He sighed in defeat, squeezing your hand before he sped back inside the school.
Ricky carefully shuffled towards you, watching each step to see if you would stop him. He managed to stand close enough to you that he could see red in your tired eyes. It broke him how much you were in despair. You looked more pale to him, as if all the life inside you had been sucked away. The only one to blame for this was him.
“Why did you do it?” You whispered.
He was startled by your question, he expected to do all the talking and for you to just stand there.
“I don’t know.”
“Did you even like me before that stupid deal?”
Your voice raised slightly. It was still soft, but enough to show your frustration.
He was silent for a few seconds, he didn’t know what to say or how he felt.
“I don’t know.”
“You can’t keep saying you don’t know. You have to know something.”
He took another step closer to you. “I know that what I did was the stupidest thing I could have ever done. And that I should have never agreed to Red’s stupid bet.”
You groaned, “You used me, Ricky. You made me believe that you actually liked me. Was all this just for you to get back with Nini? Because if so, then congratulations. She broke up with EJ just for you, how exciting.”
“I would never use you to get back with her.”
“But you would for $20.”
You believed you just cry involuntarily now. You hadn’t even noticed the stream rolling down your cheeks until it hit your palm.
Ricky was now also breaking down. His face was as red as his bruised lips. You could tell how much he chewed his lips since you saw him before.
“That bet was wrong, but everything I did after was real. You’re one of my closest friends, Y/N. What I felt for you on our first date was something so different. I really like you, and I think I-”
“I have your phone, Y/N.”
Carlos ran up next to you, holding your phone in his hand. You wiped your eyes for the hundredth time today, feeling a sting. He rubbed your back slowly, checking to make sure you were ok.
“Please, listen to me.” Ricky pleaded, holding your hand.
You felt something rough in between both of your palms. You looked down confusingly at your hands, making Carlos believe you didn’t want him to touch you.
Carlos roughly smacked Ricky’s hand off of yours, making him pull back and wince.
You looked towards Ricky, biting the inside of your cheek.
“I’m worth a lot more than $20.”
He only nodded at you, his eyes full of sorrow and pain.
“Come on, I’ll drive us home.” Carlos rushed, getting the keys from your other hand and leading you inside the passenger’s seat of your car.
Ricky watched as you pulled out of the parking space, hoping that you would forgive him.
➢➣ ➢➣
Once you got some quick food from a drive-thru and dropped off Carlos at home, you managed to get home without causing some sort of traffic jam. You left your food on the kitchen table, alarming your mother when she saw the state you were in.
“Are you alright?” She worryingly asked.
You simply nodded, not feeling the energy to speak. Whenever she knew you were sad, she knew that you wouldn’t want to talk to anybody. She rushed to your side and planted a sweet kiss to your forehead. You smiled at her before slugging your way to your room.
You collapsed on your bed, feeling suffocated by the sheets that covered your face. It didn’t bother you, for some reason. You turned on your back, staring at the ceiling above. Should I have forgiven him, or should I have slapped him?
Suddenly you remembered that Ricky had slipped something inside your hand, but you tucked it away in your pocket before you left so you wouldn’t forget it. You reached inside the pouch of your jeans and pulled out a small paper ball.
You sat up from your bed, messing with your hair before you slowly tore open the crunched paper. It was soon revealed to be another flashcard that Ricky would always throw at you to talk during class. The note was from the day Ricky asked you out.
we should definitely go on a trip to the beach like soon
ricky ur too dumb to drive that far
ur too dumb for being friends with me so who’s the loser now
Reading the front side of the note made you scoff. You flipped it over to see new writing from him, making you raise an eyebrow.
ur right, ur worth a lot more than twenty dollars. so let me prove it to u.
the pier, tomorrow at 2.

JGY and NMJ post-canon, as fierce corpses sealed up together in that coffin (as per novel), get freed from the coffin and go to Cloud Recesses on Baxia because NMJ is fed with having that little snake around all the time.
ao3
“I can’t believe you actually managed to get us out of there,” Jin Guangyao said when they reached air again.
“I can’t believe you’re still talking,” Nie Mingjue growled, his voice still raspy from the whole decapitated head business, which he was still taking far too personally in Jin Guangyao’s opinion. He’d already been dead at the time! It wasn’t like Jin Guangyao had caused him any additional pain by the dismemberment!
Anyway, Nie Mingjue had unexpectedly turned into a terrifyingly powerful fierce corpse – contrary to everything that should have happened, did he just skip the whole soul-calming rituals that all children of the gentry were supposedly getting? – and there had simply been no other alternative that would keep him from murdering Jin Guangyao right then and there.
Possibly, Jin Guangyao allowed, that was the problem Nie Mingjue had with it.
“Aren’t you tired? You’ve done nothing but talk since we got stuck in there!”
“It’s my finest talent –”
“Lying and deceit are your finest talents.”
“And those require talking!”
Nie Mingjue shoved Jin Guangyao as he tried to climb out of the coffin. He tried to catch himself with one hand, forgot that he didn’t have that arm anymore, and tumbled to the ground.
If it wasn’t for the fact that they’d realized some time ago that their sentience depended on regularly interacting with each other, and that without regular conversation they would both begin to lose their minds and revert to ravening beasts, Jin Guangyao swore that he would have murdered Nie Mingjue and torn apart his body a second time over.
“I should’ve ripped off your tongue instead of your arm,” Nie Mingjue complained. “I’d have had a happier afterlife if I did.”
“Too late now,” Jin Guangyao grumbled, getting up. It was very strange, being a fierce corpse. “I liked you better when you were wholly consumed with rage – oh, wait, that’s what you’ve been like the entire time I’ve known you.”
“Fuck you.”
“Fuck you, too.”
The prohibition on the coffin had been broken, but there was still one around the ruined temple to keep people out and evil creatures, a category currently including the two of them, although Jin Guangyao suspected that Nie Mingjue would argue that Jin Guangyao had always been included in that category. He might even be right, who knew?
At any rate, they needed to break the prohibition to get out. Jin Guangyao tossed himself down on the ground to wait while Nie Mingjue examined it.
“Why did you start talking?” he asked idly. “I’ve always wondered. When I died, you were completely mindless.”
“Who knows?” Nie Mingjue said distractedly. “Maybe all you need for sentience is to marinate in rage for long enough.”
“That’s the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard.”
“Why? Works for the sabers.”
Jin Guangyao opened his mouth, then found he had nothing to say. He supposed that it did.
“Why did you always have so much rage, anyway?” he complained. “I understand the bit about your father being murdered, and of course your stupid cultivation style encourages it, but you always seemed especially irritated about everything.”
Nie Mingjue huffed. “You remember that I’m misaligned, right?”
“So what? Being misaligned makes you more of a shithead?”
“No, dealing with your father made me more of a shithead.”
Jin Guangyao considered the practicalities of having to deal with his father while possessing a physically female body and shuddered. It really wasn’t worth considering, especially since Lanling Jin did not believe in or especially respect Qinghe Nie’s tradition of misaligned souls. “Wait,” he said a moment later. “He knew? Why did he know?! I didn’t know, and I worked for you for years!”
“You worked for me as an adult, you dolt. He met me when I was still young.”
Jin Guangyao thought about it, then grimaced. “I can’t even imagine you as a little girl.”
“That’s because I wasn’t.”
“…I wish you’d have told me,” Jin Guangyao picked at the fraying hem of his robes.
“Why? Would you be less likely to murder me if you knew? Or was it just to spare yourself the unpleasant shock you received when you were dismembering my corpse?”
Jin Guangyao considered it. “Mostly the latter.”
“Good. If you’d said it was the former, I’d take my chances with insanity.”
Jin Guangyao rolled his eyes, then frowned. “Did he ever…?”
“Ever..? Wait, what? No!” Nie Mingjue turned to stare at him, looking scandalized – which was not an expression one really expected to see on a fierce corpse. “Why would you even ask that?”
Jin Guangyao shrugged. “Seemed reasonable, given everything else he did.”
“No,” Nie Mingjue grimaced. “He just thought I was a freak, and it seemed to especially irritate him when I didn’t just submit to whatever he wanted, that’s all. Nothing over the top...still, you clearly know what he was like. This was the man you were so desperate for the approval for?”
“I figured it out eventually,” Jin Guangyao grumbled. “Anyway, who are you to talk about father issues? You, with the whole you-killed-my-father obsession?”
“He did kill my father.”
“Big deal! So did I!” He paused. “Kill my father, that is. Not yours.”
“Did you?” Nie Mingjue snorted. “My desire to kill you went down one notch.”
“It did?”
“From several tens of thousands, but yes.”
Jin Guangyao drummed his fingers on his knee thoughtfully. “Can I kill other people to make it keep going down?”
“The fact that you even asked that made it go back up.”
Useless. Nie Mingjue was just completely useless.
“How long will it take you to get out of this one?” he asked instead, changing the subject. “I’d like to get to the Cloud Recesses to see Lan Xichen before, you know, he dies of old age.”
“Would you like to break through this array?” Nie Mingjue growled.
Lan Xichen had always been very fond of communication. He sincerely believed that almost all the problems in the world were due to miscommunication, that the vast majority of the time people just needed to meet in the middle and talk things over and that they would be able to solve almost everything to their mutual satisfaction.
Communication, Jin Guangyao decided, had not helped things one bit.
“Have you figured out what you’re going to say?” Nie Mingjue asked, poking at one part of the array and not looking at Jin Guangyao in a way that had to be deliberate.
“Say?” Jin Guangyao asked. “When?”
“When we get to the Cloud Recesses. What you’ll say to Xichen.”
Jin Guangyao had thought a lot about that. “It depends,” he hedged. “I mean, what I say to him, there’s a lot of factors – for instance, will you be there?”
“Would you prefer to talk to him as mindless fierce corpse slavering for his blood?”
Jin Guangyao grimaced. “I’m still thinking about it, then.”
“Well, think fast, then. I found a gap.”
“Good!” Jin Guangyao scrambled to his feet. “That was fast. How do we break it?”
“It’s impossible to break from the inside.”
“…you couldn’t have told me that before I got up?!”
“You don’t even have muscles anymore,” Nie Mingjue complained. “Your entire body is powered by resentful energy. Why are you still whining?”
Jin Guangyao wished he had a second arm so that he could cross them over his chest and glare. Or put them on his hips and glare. Or even just use them to make a rude gesture more easily done with two hands. “Are we trapped here forever or not?”
“It can be broken from the outside,” Nie Mingjue clarified, rolling his eyes. “I’ll summon Baxia to break it, and then we can use her to fly to the Cloud Recesses.”
“Fine.” Jin Guangyao frowned. “Wait, won’t that alert Huaisang that we’re back?”
“Probably.”
“He’ll boil me alive!”
“Only pieces of you, probably,” Nie Mingjue said, sounding far too smug about the idea. “As long as he knows that I need some of you alive. Maybe I should be the one to keep your head in my closet, this time?”
“It was a treasure room. I didn’t keep you in a closet.”
“It was a fucking closet.”
“It wasn’t. It was in a mirror and everything, it’s much more sophisticated.”
“You’re the guy that had a murder closet. Accept it.”
“I refuse to be the guy with the murder closet. Anyway, you can’t let him boil me alive, you don’t know what’ll happen if you let him do that.” He thought about it, and specifically about Nie Mingjue’s prioritization between risk and reward. “Please don’t let Huaisang boil me alive.”
“I’ll consider speaking in your favor if you stop being so annoying.”
“On second thought, I don’t have nerves anymore and can’t feel pain. Bring on the boil.”
“Are we really going to have to do this for the rest of our lives?” Nie Mingjue wondered, sounding depressed.
“For the rest of eternity,” Jin Guangyao said, equally grim. “That’s why we have to get to er-ge in time to convince him to cultivate to immortality. If I had to wait alone with you until he reincarnates, I’ll go insane.”
“You’re already insane.”
“I’ll lose the ability to stop talking.”
“…Xichen cultivating to immortality it is.” Nie Mingjue thought about it. “Do you think we could convince Huaisang to…?”
“No,” Jin Guangyao said. “You couldn’t get him to cultivate to competent; who could get him to cultivate to immortality?”
The answer to that, as they discovered when they arrived at the Cloud Recesses, was apparently Lan Xichen.
“Did I need to know this?” Jin Guangyao complained, unable to believe that he’d returned from the dead as a fierce corpse and managed to regain his sanity and even work with Nie Mingjue to get to the Cloud Recesses in order to apologize to his sworn brother for all the wrongs he’d done to him, only to be stuck waiting outside in the rain while said sworn brother finished banging his other sworn brother’s little brother. “I didn’t need to know this.”
“Shut up,” Nie Mingjue said. “I’m practicing meditation in order to block out sound from my ears. Maybe I should remove my head again? Do you think that would help?”
“Nothing will help,” Jin Guangyao said as another set of enthusiastic shouting emerged through the too-thing walls. “Ever. My mind is scarred permanently.”
“Maybe that’ll improve it.”
“Fuck you.”
“Fuck you, too.”
They stood in silence for a little while, the only sounds the howling of the wind and also the howling from inside the room.
“…how long do you think it’ll take for them to finish and notice we’re here?” Jin Guangyao considered. “Maybe we could throw rocks?”
“It took five years for us to get out of that coffin,” Nie Mingjue said. “You can wait five minutes for them to finish.”
“It’d be funny if we threw rocks and then appeared in the window, dark figures silhouetted by lightning. Like in those scary puppet plays. They might never have sex again.”
“I value my brother’s happiness over your petty desire to ruin his sex life,” Nie Mingjue said, then grimaced at a particularly loud yowl. “As tempting as the thought might be.”
“We’ll wait, then,” Jin Guangyao said. “And then we’re all going to have some words.”
“Of course we are. Because you don’t shut up.”

Through flames and oceans (for the fic title)
u know. this was supposed to not go the direction it did. but it did.
People say they will do a lot for love. They will walk through flames, cross an entire ocean for love.
Bruce tells himself that that’s the stupidest fucking thing people say. He, for one, will not do that. There is also the unspoken reason of that love really isn’t in the cards for him.
Currently, he’s running away from his ex-girlfriend’s dad, General Ross, because he may or may not have done some experimentation and turned into a rage monster, but also revealed some state secrets.
Come on, can you blame him? Cosmo said twenty-year-olds need to accomplish something before they hit thirty. And he’s quite sure he just made the list.
But as for love, he is thinking about it right now because his ex-girlfriend found a very nice girl named Valkyrie, and they’re kind of set to have an engagement party, and “would you please come to the United States to help us celebrate?”
Betty is a wonderful woman, really and truly. And Bruce is okay with how their relationship ended, because it’s not like Bruce could come to family dinner and expect anything besides murder or maybe cold potatoes. And Betty deserved someone far better than him, and from the picture that was sent, it looks like Valkyrie is an amazing catch.
But there is the small matter of making it to the States without getting caught. He is on quite a lot of “no-fly” and “travel restrictive” protocols. This sucks, by the way. He had frequent flier miles saved up and everything.
It sucks, at least, until he remembers Tony’s number and calls it.
(Tony had given him his number, but sometimes he forgets that four and nine are two distinctly different numbers.)
“Brucie, baby! What can I get for you? Don’t worry, the government hasn’t been able to tap my phone calls since I was seventeen and mostly joking about finding out where their secret weapons storage is.”
“Betty’s having her engagement party, and I’m invited. I kind of need a ride home.”
“Where are you located at, right now?”
“Buenos Aires.”
“You lucky son of a bitch, god I miss it there. You having a good time?”
“When I’m avoiding government agents, yes.”
“Hm, well i’m sending a new employee of mine to go and get you. Big guy, probably Swedish.”
“You don’t know?”
“I don’t presume if someone’s Swedish or not, Bruce. I’m a terrible person, but not that terrible.”
“I...I don’t follow your sense of humor.”
“No one does, that’s why celebrities call me avant garde and ahead of my time.”
“Good to know. What’s your new guy’s name?”
“Thor.”
“Are you...are you fucking with me?”
"Darling, you’d be having a much better time if I was.”
“I don’t like the energy we’re manifesting here,” Bruce deadpans.
Tony snorts. “Okay, hippie. He’ll be there by tomorrow morning. Just stay tight where you are, sugar.”
-
Thor is a gigantic man. He parts crowds like it’s what he was meant to do, and maybe it is. Bruce stares up at him.
“Hello Dr. Banner,” Thor says, smiling gently. “You are Dr. Ross’s friend, right?”
“Um...yeah. I am.”
“Excellent. I’m a friend of Valkyrie’s, is it okay if I go ahead and fly out to the airport nearest their house?”
“Uh, is Tony okay with that?”
“Of course. And we can stop at your house if you need anything.”
“Oh, I don’t have a house. Or an apartment. You would not believe how much the US government hates my credit score.”
Thor chuckles a little bit, leading him back to a nondescript car.
“Right this way.”
-
Thor is cool as a cucumber on the outside, as they’re driving. He’s mindlessly tapping on his phone as Bruce stares out the window.
Inside? Oh, Thor hates Val for this. So much.
so, you didn’t think to send me a picture of dr. banner? just the address?
lmaooooo called it. betty owes me something now. fuckin nerd. just ask him out.
no. we still have to bypass american security
which you are “old hat” at. or did i forget that you nearly almost charmed the pants off of one of the airline people?
we don’t speak of that.
relax. stark’s taking care of it anyway.
The airplane ride home is uneventful, thank god. One of Tony’s jets awaits, and the pilot is very surprised to see a man who ranks number four on America’s Most Wanted List to be there.
“You...you know Tony?”
“And you know what an NDA is,” Tony announces over the intercom. “Bruce, welcome. Mimosas are premade, in stock. Sit back and enjoy the ride! Thor, you do what you gotta do to make sure Bruce stays safe. Enjoy the bridal shower!”
The pilot is a bit apprehensive. But mostly okay. Bruce promises nothing’s going to happen, he’s just going to drink tea and catch up on news about the current state of things.
Bruce gets bored with finding out that things are still terrible, so he talks to Thor.
“So...are your parents just really into Norse mythology, or did they know you’d come out a huge guy who has the potential to probably stop Ragnarok?”
Thor chuckles, the laugh rumbling and deep.
(Okay, that’s hot.)
"My parents’ names were Odin and Frigga. You could say they were traditionalists when it came to my brother and I.”
“You mean...?”
“He embodies the name a bit too well for my taste, but yes.”
“Oh. Wow.”
“Yeah. Let me tell you about the time we accidentally crashed a fashion week thing...”
Bruce laughs a lot about that story. Thor’s laugh is majestic, and they sit a little bit closer.
-
By the time the plane lands, they’re great friends and Thor reaches over Bruce in the baggage area and wow that man has very defined muscles.
Not that that’s important. No, that’s like. Not important at all. So what if Thor is very well-muscled and maybe this will play into Bruce’s intrusive thoughts/daydream thoughts at later intervals? Does not matter. At all.
(Oh god the man smells like salty ocean air Bruce has got it so so bad. So Bad.)
Tony greets them at the landing pad with a wide grin, eyes lighting up.
“Well, don’t you two make the happy couple,” he teases. Bruce turns red. This does not go unnoticed.
“Bruce, honestly, you run away from government and my friendship, and this is what gets you--”
“A bridal shower? To get me home? Yes,” Bruce says, cutting in not-at-all smoothly. “Now, where are Betty and her bride staying at?”
“Oh, they’re staying at the cutest little bed and breakfast for their bridal shower. Rented out the whole thing--well Pepper did, it was our wedding gift to them, and of course I mean Pep’s wedding gift, because I have something else planned-”
“Please tell me that you do not have a house bought for them,” Thor says.
“Complete with a laboratory and gymnasium,” Tony says with a wink. “I’m kidding, they already have a house. I just kind of kicked them out for a week while I remodel their entire kitchen. Val gave me the colors, I was surprised that she has taste.”
“If she hears you say that, she’ll kick your ass.”
“Which is why she won’t,” Tony reminds Thor. “Now, let’s get to unpacking. Bruce, I’m getting you some good shampoo, holy shit your hair sucks.”
“Thank you Tony, I love and value our friendship and our kindness towards each other as well,” Bruce deadpans.
“Oh come on, you have to look good. It’s your ex’s wedding party!”
“You make us sound so dramatic,” Bruce says with a snort. “We broke up. Big deal.”
“You and Betty...?” Thor asks.
“Yeah, but it’s fine. We were dating, and then I pissed off her dad, who happens to be a general. I mean, also the government. But mostly her dad.”
“Wow.”
Thor’s type shouldn’t be feral scientist. But it is.
They’re led inside, and Tony bids them goodbye.
“Duty calls,” Tony says airily, waving. “Make yourself at home, don’t put coffee grounds down the disposal or I will kick you out. Rogers is still nursing his wounds.”
“Noted,” Bruce says.
“I drink tea,” Thor answers.
Bruce shares a look.
“You too?”
“Yeah, I prefer it over coffee most of the time.”
Bruce smiles.
“I think we’re going to get along.”
They have a couple of days until the wedding party, and Thor has never seen New York. Bruce is fairly sure that no one will even see him on the CCTV footage as long as he’s walking next to Thor, so he deems it good enough to go and get a bagel.
Thor is a very gentle man. That’s a good quality.
He smiles at a little girl, who is staring, open-mouthed. Even gives her a little wave. Bruce grins.
“You like kids?”
“I do. They mostly just want to have fun, want to see what the best of the world is. I think we all need that occasionally.”
“I’ve never thought of that,” Bruce confesses. He takes a sip of his coffee.
“I love watching my cousins,” Thor continues. “The way they grow and figure it all out, it’s rewarding. What about your family?”
Bruce freezes.
“Um. I don’t exactly have a family.”
“Then you’ll just have to meet some of my cousins,” Thor amends, smiling as he sips his drink. “You’d like them.”
“I’d like that,” Bruce says, grinning. “What’s next on our New York agenda?”
"I told Loki I’d visit some stores for him and pick up some items he’s been wanting.”
-
Have you ever seen a sales associate from Chanel be terrified at your presence? No? It’s worth it.
Bruce is kind of concerned.
“I...are you...?”
“My name is Robert, uncanny similarities,” Bruce responds. “We both were born in Ohio.”
“Why is it always Ohio,” Thor mutters. “You reckon my brother would want this shoe or that?”
“Ooh, definitely go with the heel. I think that’s good.”
“Gotcha.”
Next shop is Dior.
This goes a bit out of hand. His whole line about being Robert with Incredible Similarity does not go as planned.
He and Thor are on a subway, currently running away from some authority figures and calling Tony.
“I was in the middle of learning drama about high society that I can use in my next romance novel, are you joking?” Tony hisses.
“You write romance novels?” Thor asks.
“Now is not the time to question that, I’m in the middle of making sure you get a car to your next stop. How well do you both know what a Chrysler is?”
“The building, right?”
“God, I hate you so much,” Tony groans. “No, um...it looks like the wing things that they give army people when they do something that I guess they think is cool.”
“Oh. Okay. Get in that car?”
“Yes. It’s gonna be red with silver detailing.”
“Tony, they’re gonna know it’s us.”
“Believe me, they won’t. Trust me.”
So as it turns out, it’s not the most ostentatious vehicle.
Because Tony pulls up in a lifted pick-up truck, painted a sparkling, neon green with bright orange wheels.
It is the ugliest goddamn thing Bruce has ever seen. Also the most effective.
Thor nearly shoves Bruce into the car, and they’re sitting too close, and Bruce probably shouldn’t be focusing on the fact that Thor’s hair is now artfully messy, but here he is. Doing that.
“So, sorry that before the wedding shower we’re being hunted down by the government.”
“Not the worst thing that I could be doing on a Friday,” Thor says with a shrug. “I think you’re just about the most interesting person I’ve met, Bruce.”
He smiles at him. Bruce’s heart skips a beat. He can’t tell if it’s because of the eye contact or the fact that they’re in close proximity. Maybe both.
“You wanna go on a date after all this?” Bruce blurts out.
He does. And as soon as he says it, he kind of regrets it because they’re in a car with glittery silver interior seats and he’s also in pants that have seen better days, and his hair is a Mess.
(Also self-esteem issues, but Bruce is used to that so he’s not counting it.)
“Like, after we get home or when the government gives up on finding you?”
“I don’t know. Whichever one comes first?”
“Technically, I think I count as army jurisdiction, and military budget is a fountain of money.”
“Ah. Then home it is. How do you feel about ordering in?”
“Mm, sounds good,” Bruce says, grinning. “You’re the best.”
“Well, I certainly try,” Thor says, grinning right back. “You wanna go to Betty and Val’s shower together?”
“Yes. Do we have to amend our ‘how-we-met’ story?”
“Not at all. Valkyrie used to run an underground fight ring. She knows the feeling.”
“How has that not come up in conversation?”
“We were kind of preoccupied trying to figure out what a Chrysler car looked like.”
“Oh, true.”
At the wedding party, Bruce and Thor are very happy. Betty and Val roll their eyes and laugh as they talk.
“Leave it to my dad to ruin everything,” Betty gripes.
“Well he didn’t ruin this party or my meeting Thor,” Bruce defends. “Besides, you know what happens if he steps a foot near you.”
Betty grins.
“You serious?”
“Can’t promise you’ll get your security deposit back, but yes.”
Betty pulls him into a hug.
“You’re too sweet to me.”
“Yeah, tell me that after he steps on the limousine.”
“Eh, I wouldn’t worry,” Thor says, grinning. “I think Tony has some sort of security feature worked in.”
“Oh, he does,” Val says. “He’s threatened to pull some of the contracts for safety gear. Won’t go through with it, but Ross can’t touch the wedding. Best gift ever.”
When the party gets late, Thor and Bruce are sitting out on the porch. Clean-up is happening, and they’re taking a break. Thor thinks that Bruce has never looked more beautiful in a rumpled yellow shirt, soft lights making his face glow.
“I’m glad I met you,” Thor murmurs, moving a stray curl.
“Really?” Bruce asks, smiling softly. “I think I’m glad I met you too.”
Bruce grins behind his door when they make it home. Thor had kissed him on the cheek, and while that wasn’t too big of a deal, it was a big deal to him.
“See you in the morning, dear,” Thor had told him.
He was going to be up half the night with that line running through his head.
A lot of people do a lot of things for love. Bruce still wouldn’t walk through flames, or swim across an entire ocean, but he’s starting to understand.

TLTNL- FIGHT AND FLIGHT
Remus wasn't fooled, he'd been watching over Harry's shoulder for just this. His eyes burned with every word that wasn't the fatal blow of Sirius' death, and still was just as much relieved they had another few moments to cling to that hope. He snapped forward and pried the book away from Harry, even as he tried to cling to it in protest.
"No, you guys shouldn't-"
"And you think you should?" Remus demanded as he matched Harry's glare. It felt like they were playing a real life version of Snape's task from so many days ago. Which was the deadly part of this? Who would it be, forced to say the words of what truly did their family in? Letting Harry get through it all by himself though would not be tolerated by a single one, and now surrounded on all sides as they all were, it would be the only chance they had to live through it.
Harry very reluctantly handed it over, and at once began pressing a trembling hand to his scar. Now he had nothing to occupy his hands, but knew their torturous pain of only having to listen as at any moment, the vision could overtake Harry again...
Harry had no clue if Hermione even had a plan as he followed just behind her and in front of Umbridge's wand. He didn't even dare ask her, for Umbridge was literally breathing on their necks.
Sirius still wished someone would offer speculation, a joke, anything! He kept hoping that somehow, any moment now, he'd drop in front of Harry with the magical story of his escape, he'd been the one to put Voldemort back in his place.
Hermione led them down past the Great Hall where the din of voices were chatting over dinner,
James made a little squeak noise. He could feel the time pressing into them in here, turning them more petrified by the second as they were forced to listen to this, and it had been even longer in Harry's time, how much longer did Sirius have!?
it seemed incredible to him there were people twenty feet away just laughing about the exams being over without a real care in the world.
Lily had been shaking nonstop for quite some time, but that caused yet another tremor for a wholly other reason. If only her sacrifice had meant something more. She felt as if she'd only bought her son a spare few years, but he just kept suffering a life that no one should ever have to live through.
Hermione was walking swiftly out onto the grounds. Umbridge asked if it was in Hagrid's place?
Hermione scathingly said he'd have accidentally set it off.
"Play to her own idiocies," Remus muttered absently, his mind really not at all on this as he felt they were only getting further away from the help Sirius so needed. Hermione should have led her down to Snape's office, maybe he'd have done something useful for once in his life and stunned this troll bogie for them and then explained the plan of how to help Sirius!
Umbridge agreed at once, the half-breed oaf, then she laughed.
Harry had the urge to turn around and seize her by the throat, but resisted.
"I don't know how," Sirius said honestly.
His scar was still paining him through all this, but it did not yet burn white-hot as he knew it would for a kill.
Sirius wanted to shake off their concern again, but it was getting harder by the moment as his own chest restricted painfully. What he would give for Harry to never have known that pain, but he didn't seem able to find that hope as easily as his friends Harry would find some way out of this for him. After all, when Voldemort wanted you dead...and even James hadn't been able to fight him off...
Umbridge impatiently asked where it was, a touch of uncertainty in her for the first time as Hermione kept walking right towards the Forbidden Forest.
"Does she only just now wonder if she's being played?" Sirius tried desperately for that chipper tone at her idiocy, but it still came out more chilling as Harry shivered, he could still hear Sirius' screams of pain.
Hermione gestured in here of course, where students couldn't come across it. Umbridge was clearly more apprehensive now, but insisted they stay ahead of her.
Harry asked could they at least have her wand if they were going first.
"If she were that stupid, killing her would hold almost no fun," James said deadpan.
Umbridge said no at once, the Ministry put a higher value on her life than his.
"Which really goes to show the Ministry's priorities, oh, no wait, we already knew they respected dung more than anything," Lily muttered.
Harry tried to catch Hermione's eye again, trying to convey waltzing into the Forest unarmed may be the stupidest thing they'd done yet.
Remus suddenly had their attention far more than anything yet. The Marauders couldn't help it, if they'd been concocting some kind of plan, they'd have initiated it somewhere in here too, an area they honestly claimed to know better than even the castle. The intrigue finally brought them off of Sirius for even a second, what was Hermione up to?
She however took no notice of him, ploughing through the thickest bushes without care, and Umbridge's shorter legs were having trouble keeping pace.
Lily honestly wondered if that could be the plan, Umbridge certainly didn't know her way well enough, she could get lost.
After ripping her robes in bramble she demanded how far in it was.
Hermione said very, with confidence that Harry didn't have. Hermione wasn't on the path leading them to Grawp,
James lost any train of thought he might have cobbled together. If Hermione did have any idea in mind, it may well have been just that, in hopes Grawp would take care of their splinter and they could get back the real problem. Either she was lost or- he couldn't think past anything but wishing more than ever this future would never come.
but the one he followed three years ago to the lair of Aragog.
"Uhoh," Remus muttered, now convinced whatever plan she may have was now nonexistent and she was scrambling as desperately as them for a way out of this.
Harry tried to warn her of this, asking if she was sure they were going the right way, but she gave him the same steely answer and ignored him as she stepped with wholly unnecessary amounts of noise while Umbridge tripped right over a tree and fell. Neither of them paused to help her up.
"There's no way I'd consider you a person if you did," James stated.
Harry instead took her moment of distraction to hiss at Hermione to keep it down, but Hermione said she wanted to be heard.
That caught them all off guard, Harry blinking slowly as he tried to get his eyes to adjust to this. He still felt more than anything that feeling for what Sirius was going through, it was impossible to erase, but he could distantly recognize something new trying to trump that, some new fear coupled with something long overdue...
They kept going until the canopy overhead took away all light, and Harry had that feeling he was being watched by unseen eyes.
The boys had felt that way many times in the forest, and though it wasn't always a bad thing, it certainly wasn't something they wanted Harry to be experiencing right now! It was only another delay, another few lines they'd have to hear of Sirius not being safe.
The next time Umbridge demanded how much farther, she was cut off by an arrow thudding into a tree just above her head.
Lily startled so bad her wand was pointed at Remus before she'd even recognized the motion. Between Sirius a breath away from not having a future in that thing and now Harry being drug around the most dangerous place for him to be wandless, she was far past her wits end with anything else to do but curse the next thing that came too close.
Remus only paused for a moment to watch her before going back to reading, unable to concentrate long enough to even check if she stowed it away. Normally the sight would have terrified him from someone so genuinely formidable, especially her in this situation, but if she wanted to take this from him when he didn't have his answer for Sirius yet she'd have to try harder than that.
They were not alone, out of nowhere the sound of hooves surrounded them on all sides, and Umbridge kept Harry in front of her as if a human shield.
Sirius' face twisted in disgust, his hands still itching to crack her head in. His godson was trying to risk his life for him, and that soiled cat litter was using him to cover her own disgusting flesh!
Harry watched the binding in Remus' hands crack dangerously, they all flashed with murder again and he worried it would be far too long before they passed off of that. As pent up and stressed as they were for Sirius and now him, it seemed a miracle if Umbridge didn't enact another break away from this place more every line. Yet that same detached part of him pleasantly informed, while giving him another sock to his temple he had no need for with the rest of his pain, that hopefully something was going to come of this. Not good, that emotion was impossible to grasp right now, but something not bad.
He got himself free of her grasp just as the fifty centaurs came into view, bows drawn and all pointed at the three of them.
James made that noise again, and Sirius desperately put his arm around his best mate. It was the only thing holding him together now, realizing that Harry and Sirius truly were both in life threatening situations, and he couldn't do anything for either of them! This all somehow grew successively worse every single day, he was literally being torn in two for his family. There was no sign of his ghost coming back this time to offer anyone anything!
They remained very still as they were surrounded, Harry ignoring Umbridge's little whimpers of terror and instead spotting Hermione's triumphant smile.
"This was her plan!" Lily shrieked, and Remus actually did recoil in fear from her now, from this life somehow Harry survived and honestly none of them had a clue how at this point. "To make the centaurs angry!"
"I, can actually see this one, a bit," Sirius whispered, his eyes still too wide but certainly there was something in his voice now holding to that. "She knows exactly how Umbridge is going to treat these guys, and they're going to go ballistic, maybe kill her if we're lucky. Yet those two are still young, innocent the centaurs have said themselves, so if they play this right, they'll walk right back out of there without her."
"I, well yes but she-" Lily still failed to truly put her heart into this even if she could see the logic. She was sick with worry for one of her boys already, but in all fairness it's not like she'd come up with an alternative, she was still reeling from what was going on with Sirius. Hermione's level headedness may be their saving grace as she tried to wave Remus on without full blown panicking.
Magorian stepped forward, and Umbridge pointed her trembling wand at him.
Remus scoffed low in his throat in disgust, easily imagining such a pathetic response from something able to fight back against her. A braver person than her would have cowed in front of a herd of angry centaurs, but after all she'd done to Harry and too many innocent children, whatever happened to her next because of this would be so sweetly deserved even Umbridge's voice couldn't manage it.
Umbridge declared herself as Senior Undersecretary to the Minister of Magic, Headmistress, and High Inquisitor of Hogwarts.
"She is no such thing!" Sirius vowed, he'd never view her as anything more than a lower life form than the mice Mrs. Norris spat out for not being edible enough.
Magorian was not impressed by her Ministry status.
Umbridge was though, trying to steady her voice as she recited their laws that under the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures, an attack by half-breeds such as them on a human-
"Now she's done it," James said distantly, though he'd never been less invested in Umbridge in his life. If this had been going on any other time than when Sirius needed him...
Hermione told her not to call them that, but it went unheard as many centaurs around them roared in outrage for the slur.
"Trying to distance herself, a very good idea right now," Remus muttered, his fingers tapping restlessly against the book as he still recognized how dangerous this was for Harry. Just being a human in her presence right now was a danger, no matter their age.
Umbridge cared nothing, still going on loudly that they fell under the category of near- human intelligence-
"That's right, keep insulting them," Sirius never thought he would be encouraging Umbridge to do anything, but this was a better distraction from his own problem than he ever would have hoped to ask for. "I've always wanted to hear of dismemberment by centaurs."
but even her voice failed as Magorian shouted they considered that a great insult, their intelligence far outsripped hers!
A grey centaur demanded what she was doing in their Forest?
Umbridge was now shaking with as much fright as indignation.
"I never would have thought she could really be this dense," Lily hissed. As foul as they'd all found her, they never would have thought she'd be this stupid. Even the lowest life form must realize by now who was the dominant one in this environment.
She reminded them they only lived here because the Ministry permitted it.
"Dead." James said flatly, every single part of him praying that was the only death of this one.
An arrow flew so close to her it caught a few strands of her hair before again leveling out in a tree, now with a wild neigh echoing from all sides that left Harry unnerved.
"Now I know where your mind still is if unnerving is all you're getting from this," Remus shifted uneasily, still all to fearful Harry and Hermione would be caught in the crossfire any second, and yet hardly wanting to flip back any moment and hear of what Voldemort was doing to Sirius. This was a true torture in itself.
Umbridge shrieked at them, then shot the spell Incarcerous at the nearest one.
"Oh no, I was wrong," James conceded. "Now she's dead."
"And here we are, not even able to enjoy it," Remus muttered, his hand always on the next page, never wanting to keep going until the precious words arrived Sirius had escaped.
Ropes flew from her wand and encircled him, she'd gone too far. The centaurs rushed her in a rage, Harry recognizing Bane to be the one to lift her right off the ground with one arm and lear at her. Umbridge's wand fell, and Harry's heart gave a tiny leap of hope as he reached for it, but a hoof smashed it in half.
"Honestly I don't think it was worth it," Sirius grumbled in disgust. Harry would get his wand back, no need to degrade himself into using that tarnished wood once used by a frog thicker than any pondscum.
She was dragged away kicking and screaming, her pleas meaning nothing as she vanished into the distant forest.
Remus vaguely recalled a few myths he'd heard of what centaurus did when they really wanted you dead, and honestly if even a portion of them were true he'd have felt genuine fear under any other circumstances, but now he was just wishing this had all been done in the beginning to her.
Harry rubbed at his scar, not on his forehead, but the back of his hand, his eyes actually burning hatefully for someone other than Voldemort or himself for just a moment. Umbridge's screams and pleas for help had meant nothing to him then or now.
"Was she really begging you to actually help her?" James honestly couldn't believe that one, even the Dursley's wouldn't really be so stupid!
"Yes," Harry said, his right hand clenched into a hard fist, "but I didn't bother of course, after all, I must not tell lies."*
Sirius grinned crazily at Harry, patting his knee with far too much enthusiasm for this. It all fit together rather well in his mind, he'd take on Voldemort all over again if he could get these set of circumstances to happen to Umbridge any day, they couldn't have set up a better revenge if they'd tried!
The others did not agree, but none could deny either they weren't just a bit grimly pleased something had been worth it in all this mayhem and heartbreak, though it would mean nothing if the one most important to them didn't make it through.
Screaming non-stop, her voice grew fainter and fainter until it could no longer be heard over the trampling of hooves still surrounding them.
"Not good," Lily hissed, chanting that under her breath now as she removed her nails from James and let them dig into her own palm instead, the fear twisting her innards relieving nothing. She couldn't erase the idea Harry was still in the middle of all this.
James reached over and put her hands right back inside his, the only thing stilling the shaking, he didn't care the little pinpricks of her fear pushing into him instead, it was yet another reminder, a way to distance himself from seeing this happening to Harry on one level and still seeing Sirius just beyond that in a position he'd die before allowing himself to stay in at Voldemort's feet.
Harry was yanked by another centaur grabbing the back of his neck, the centaurs now demanding what should be done with them.
One pointed out they did not hurt foals, but another reminded they'd been the ones to bring her here.
"Shit!" Lily yelped, startling in place all over again. The centaurs had been watching the whole time, they knew Hermione's hadn't been a complete ruse!
"This could still work in their favor," Remus tried desperately to placate. "She had them at wand point this whole time, if they play this right they could pin it all on Umbridge forcing them to go in there."
The one holding Harry even pointed out they weren't so young, this one was nearing manhood with a hard shake to Harry.
"There's a compliment somewhere in there," James managed softly as he watched his son, his own age, that sting always present in the back of his mind he'd never truly seen him grow up, that these centaurs had seen his son at more stages of his life than he had.
Hermione pleaded they were nothing like her, they didn't care for the Ministry, they'd only come in here so they could drive her off.
"Gah, she was doing so good for a moment!" Remus found a new shade of pale all his own in fear for that line.
"How did she manage to say the worst possible thing," Sirius groaned miserably, now realizing their earlier fears had been preemptive, Hermione may have earned herself a death sentence along with Umbridge for that one alone.
Harry at once knew she'd said the wrong thing, as the one holding her stamped his feet in fury, telling Ronan they were no better than the rest of their kind with their arrogance!
"Don't ever let them meet Sirius or they'll know that's true." Lily tried to say that in her normal voice she always spoke to him with, it was easier on her heart for just a second to look him in the eyes and as always give a poke at him.
Sirius responded as always, flashing her a grin, but it was still lost on the others, as Lily only managed to remind them they'd give anything for Sirius to be in this with Harry rather than where he was.
Demanding of her she just expected them to do their work like obedient ponies?
Hermione pleaded she'd only been hoping they'd help, but she was going from bad to worse.
"I fear we've reached past the point where words help," James managed to get out, no longer able to support his own weight and would have long since fallen over if he wasn't already down. He could feel he was about to be reduced to tears any moment now, because even looking at Harry and knowing he made it out alive, he still hadn't stopped rubbing his scar this whole time. This still wasn't the biggest fear of his night, and there was only one thing worse than fearing for Hermione's life right now.
The centaur holding Harry reared up in outrage, actually taking Harry's feet off the ground for a moment as he shouted in anger they would not permit these ones to leave, boasting about the centaurs doing their bidding!
Sirius hadn't thought it possible to be more frightened for Harry than he was moments ago, still knowing his pup could slip back into Voldemort's mind any moment when this fight between them ended, but somehow he'd certainly found a way to go past that into another level of fear. What did those centaurs do to him before someone came along to the rescue!
It seemed decided they'd join the woman!
Lily retched, one hand finally leaving her husbands now to tangle with Harry's as well, fingers twisted so tight nothing could have pulled them from her.
Centaurs were an ancient race who would not let this stand, they were superior, they-
Whatever else they were went unheard.
James spluttered something that might have been relief for this finally being cut off, though this only meant his worry for Sirius went right back up to the top now that Harry was free.
Suddenly the two were dropped, all hands back on weapons as a new rumbling shook the forest.
"A proper warrior," Remus muttered without surprise, the centaurs were clearly trained to recognize threat over arrogance, something Umbridge was now being taught.
Harry hurried so he was crouched over Hermione protectively as Grawp poked his face in.
"You said what now?" Sirius squeaked.
"I-" Remus' voice failed as he couldn't repeat that one. According to Harry they hadn't been anywhere near where Grawp was tied up, so how was he, why...
Harry grew impatient with their surprise even as he felt his own pitiful relief for the save he didn't feel he deserved. He was almost angry for the rescue, like he knew he'd deserved to stay in that forest and the centaurs punishment would still be better than the rest of this memory. He couldn't just let himself sit around with that or he'd explode, but Harry's trying to keep going only spurred Remus back into fully grasping this. He certainly hadn't forgotten as his knee stayed tight pressed to Sirius, that stupid annoying voice of his always near the back of his ear, and he filed whatever emotions he had for anything else away for later.
He gazed down, unimpressed at the herd as his dull eyes traveled over them as if searching for something he'd dropped, there were broken ropes trailing his ankles.
Sirius was still making some noise with his throat like he was trying to attempt speech. They'd hardly forgotten about Grawp, but this never would have crossed anyone's mind! How had he even gotten loose? A giant was actually walking freely around their forest! He could no longer decide if it was fear, or indignation keeping him listening.
Clearly not finding what he was looking for, he said Hagger.
Remus couldn't help but falter from surprise again. He didn't know any words in Giant, but he honestly didn't feel that's what Grawp wanted either, that didn't exactly sound like he was asking for directions back to his mountain now he'd gotten himself free.
The centaurs remained tight in their fighting stance as Grawp repeated this with insistence.
Lily covered her mouth in surprise, wondering at that all of a sudden, and how he hadn't been able to say Hermione's name quite right either, but surely he wouldn't...
Grawp stooped, looking more closely than ever, still saying Hagger.
Hermione gasped as she whispered to Harry he was trying to say Hagrid.
"But, why would he?" James demanded, feeling woozy from too many things going on, and now he could add his son being crushed by a giant again to that list even if it was by accident.
"I think he actually grew to care for Hagrid," Lily hummed, so constantly near tears of late from her eyes constantly flickering to Sirius this almost set her off again.
"I, wow, I did not see that coming," Remus muttered, though admittedly touched for Hagrid, imagining the big guys face if he'd seen his brother now.
Grawp spotted them among the sea of colors, and rumbled Hermy in recognition.
"Now we know Hermione was right," Sirius blinked spastically, though a laugh was still too far gone for him.
"Bless Hagrid," Lily said with a hard catch in her throat, she couldn't imagine what would have happened to her Hare Bear if their game keeper wasn't the way he was.
Hermione shook in surprise as Grawp demanded where Hagger was.
"We all want Hagrid back," Harry muttered, he'd actually stopped rubbing at his head for a moment to gaze at the book with longing before turning wretched eyes to Sirius. There were a lot of things in his life he wished he'd had back, Grawp should consider himself lucky Hagrid really was just, inconvenienced right now.
Unsatisfied with her lack of answer, Grawp's hand reached out for Hermione, and Harry tensed ready for a fight, prepared to bite, kick or do anything he could to keep him off of her.
They all twitched with unease, that fight or flight instinct wanting to kick in here more every moment, none were crazy enough to think they could fight off a giant. Even with the confidence now Grawp wouldn't really do them harm, it was not a pleasant thing to be thinking of Harry so casually tossed over Group's shoulders when he realized he'd caught the wrong person.
He didn't get that far, he'd shoved a centaur right off it's feet and batted him away trying to reach for her, and this was what they'd been waiting on, as fifty arrows were shot right into Grawps face.
Lily gasped, the urge to vomit becoming more every moment. Now she could easily imagine this horrific scene, and both sides so furious, and their son still caught in the middle of it all.
Grawp roared, bringing his hands up to take the shafts out, but only digging the points in deeper. He began thundering around chasing the centaurs, who all scattered and fled.
Harry and Hermione were left, shaking with fright as Hermione whispered if he'd kill them all.
Harry said he wouldn't be too fussed if so.
"I, can not, believe that just happened," Sirius shook his head slowly. How did Harry's life keep getting crazier by the hour!? They still hadn't even gotten to the part where Harry was going to go kamikaze up to the Ministry for him!
He was not paying attention to anything around him anymore, as his scar gave another twinge of pain and a thrill of terror possessed him as he realized how much time they'd wasted.
James wasn't sure how many times his heart could stop beating before he keeled over, but he was sure he was close by now. He could feel that time too, like Sirius' heartbeats were even now being numbered!
They were even further than before from rescuing Sirius, and Harry turned with fury on Hermione for this, demanding what now?
"Ah Harry, don't take it out on her," Sirius said. He felt so faint, getting a first hand account of his own death, not able to tell Harry for one moment what he was doing was wrong for trying to stop it, but at the same time there was almost a relief, a calmness in him Harry had never put himself in danger for his sake, again.
"Thought that was my line," Harry muttered, his eyes still holding a dead look that continued to horrify them more than anything, as if nothing he'd yet done had even made a difference, Sirius' fate was already sealed. They couldn't believe that though, they wouldn't!
Hermione reminded they'd go back to the castle, and Harry shouted at her by the time they managed that Sirius would already be dead, kicking at a tree in temper.
Remus felt a hollow laugh, watching that reaction alone, afraid to look at Harry and see his eyes again. If that was the worst reaction Harry had, this whole ordeal really could be bearable, please let that be the worst thing Harry do!
Hermione insisted it was the only thing, they couldn't do anything without their wands and they still didn't have a way to get to the Ministry.
A voice behind them agreed they'd just been wondering that. They turned to find their friends they'd left in Umbridge's office coming towards them, all looking worse for wear as if having been in a fight, but also looking quite pleased with themselves.
"Well, at least someone's been productive," Harry seethed hatefully, never having felt more useless in his life than he did in this moment, still wishing he'd chased Grawp down or those centaurs. He couldn't understand where his mind was coming from with this, it just couldn't be true there really was no out for Sirius, he must be misunderstanding something!
Harry asked how they'd gotten away, and Ron explained they'd all let off some stunners at once, a disarming charm on one, and Neville did quite the Impedimenta jinx. Ginny's was the best, she did a Bat Bogey Hex on Malfoy, he was still covered with the things when they'd left.
There was some long lost part of James he couldn't find right now where he and his friends should have been laughing at that, congratulating little Ginny and how far she'd come.
"I think Harry more meant how'd they got their wands back," Sirius said, clearly finding this the most interesting thing to think about right now no matter how much anyone else disagreed.
"I'm wondering if it was Luna," Lily offered, still fighting off the urge to keep screaming now that the kids were back to just trying to figure out what to do, at least before they'd felt the movement! "Her complacency, could have caused a sneak attack, got their wands away to start this."
"Prongs, I really can see why you fell for such a devious woman, concocting that idea. I'm sorry I didn't appreciate that more in school." Sirius told him pleasantly.
James shook his head from side to side with that tight feeling still restricting his heart from truly smiling back, but Sirius could always drag him back to this world no matter how lost in thought he'd get. "Guess I should be rather glad, don't need you pining after her as well, she had enough blokes doing that."
Lily swatted them both good naturedly while Sirius rolled his eyes.
Ron concluded they'd seen them heading into the Forest from the office so they'd followed.
"And they just managed to find them in that great big-"
"Shh," Lily shushed Sirius before he could interrupt again, she was going to go ballistic if she didn't hear of Harry on the move soon, they could feel now more than ever Sirius was running out of whatever time he had.
Ron asked what they'd done with Umbridge, and Harry briefly explained the centaurs and Grawp. Luna asked who Grawp was, and Ron informed Hagrid's little brother.
"Great, now we're all caught up!" James said through gritted teeth, this had been the longest hour of his life, and he never would have thought anything could trump the moment Peter had betrayed him, and he'd never hoped something else would!
Harry testily cut in Sirius was still alive for now, but they had to come up with a solution before that changed. They all fell silent, all clearly growing scared of this insurmountable problem.
"Go back to the school!" Remus seemed aghast that wasn't Harry's first thought. "Make damn sure Snape got the message! Hell, Umbridge's fireplace is open now! Go back and use that!" He stopped quickly though, as his practically shouting these things was doing nothing but making Harry more miserable by the second. They could all feel how much he was blaming himself for this, and Remus would never want to feel as if he were making that worse. He honestly believed he wouldn't have been any more clear headed in the moment, more than likely standing around and panicking just like Harry in trying to understand what he could do to help, so he just kept himself going, any answer would be better than watching the poor kid beat himself up over this.
Luna said they'd fly as if that were the most obvious thing in the world.
'Oh yes, running off to get brooms is the most logical thing,' Remus couldn't help that mocking thought which he firmly kept to himself as it was no more helpful than last time, he just wanted to be on the move already even with his Padfoot right here by his side.
Harry irritably said that was no help, Ron was the only one who had a broom that wasn't being guarded. Ginny pointed out she had one-
Harry corrected that wasn't the point, she was too-
Ginny said fiercely she was three years older than him when he'd first faced Voldemort.
"She's got you there though," Sirius managed a real chuckle.
"She's going to get herself killed!" Harry hissed, somehow his panic climbing even worse than before and he hadn't thought that was possible, but now the reality his friends were in danger  really was pushing him farther than ever. His temple gave an extra hard throb, he could feel that pain and panic climbing every second, soon he wouldn't be able to tell past from present and he'd go darting out of this place himself to go rescue a Sirius right next to him.
Neville jumped in to remind they'd been in the DA to fight Voldemort, or had that all been some game?
"I think Neville really deserves something there," Lily said softly as she watched Harry bury his face in his hands with resignation. "He has the least understanding of what's going on, he doesn't even know who Sirius is. Even if he has put the name to the one in the papers, that makes this all the more unbelievable of the lad."
"Yeah, great, he's a bloody saint," Harry got out around a tight throat, pushing his glasses off his face for a moment to rub at bloodshot eyes, but quickly fixing that so he would never have to stop looking at Sirius for a moment longer than he had to. His mother was right, they all were, he was more grateful and longing in his life for the worst moment in his life just for those friends he no longer had at his side even with his family he had now.
Harry exchanged a look with Ron, both thinking the same. If they'd been able to pick members from the DA, it would not have been these three.
"Who would you have picked?" Sirius scrutinized that one oddly. "Cho? Zacharia? Collin? I never heard better options than the ones you've got."
"They're the ones asking to be there," James agreed, blinking fast to try and push that cursed vision from Harry's mind out of his for just one moment, it wasn't working.
Harry was still trembling worse than ever, wanting to go and save Sirius already, but now feeling as if he understood that anger at himself, if any of his friends got hurt because they'd gone with him...
Harry said through gritted teeth none of this mattered as they still didn't have a way to get there, though Luna cut in to simply again remind they were going to fly.
"She can keep saying that all she likes, it doesn't mean an Occarumpent is going to appear!" Remus ground out.
He hardly noticed the odd looks he was being given and jerked his head back up to glare at Sirius as he interrupted to ask what that even was.
"An occamy and an erumpent, keep up Sirius."
Sirius raised his hands in surrender, he hadn't been expecting Moony to be mocking Luna's weird creature ideas right now.
Ron said it must be nice if she could sprout wings at will, but none of them did!
Luna reminded there were other ways to fly, and Ron demanded if she was going to summon a Kacky Snorgle to her?
Luna corrected Crumple-Horned Snorkacks couldn't fly,
"Yes, because that was the part she caught on," Remus rolled his eyes heavily, feeling the pressure more than anyone he'd wasted all of his breath on things that weren't getting Sirius away from danger.
but they could, and Hagrid had said they were very good at finding places.
Harry turned to see Luna gesturing at two Thestrals looking on at them curiously from the shadows.
"Oh," they all muttered in genuine surprise. Only one of their members had been able to see those things in their day, and for the first time they wondered how often he'd seen those in the Forest without even mentioning it to them. This still held nothing to their honest thought this was the most ridiculous and long winded way Harry could use to get there! Yet berating him over it would do nothing but make them all feel even worse, they just wished someone other than Luna had offered up an idea, which was more than likely where Moony's ire with her currently was.
Harry went towards them at once with glee, and he watched them toss their reptilian heads wondering how he'd ever found them ugly.
"You can still find things ugly and useful," Lily said primly with a sideways look at Sirius, who openly ignored that one, there were some things even he wouldn't joke about, and now wasn't the time for those kinds of jokes on her part.
Ron was looking slightly to the left of where the Thestral now was, confirming it was those mad horse things you couldn't see unless you'd seen someone snuff it.
"Lest Ron's as lovely as ever," Lily muttered, more for herself that time as Sirius' eyes did brighten with humor at that one.
Hermione asked how many there were, and when he said two, she said they needed at least three.
"She could just ride on the back of one of the boys, they're tough things," James grumped, if this was how they were going to travel, he wanted this to be done with!
Luna corrected six, and Harry snapped fine, but unless they found more Thestrals this was still-
Ginny pointed out more would come, squinting more above where the Thestral was,
"Credit for trying?" Remus said snippily, well aware he was clutching the last page of his chapter and only more problems had been added to this already paralyzing situation!
as Harry and Hermione were still covered in droplets of Grawp's blood from when he'd been shot in the face, the two reeked of it and that's probably what had drawn these here in the first place.
"Why does Ginny know that?" Sirius muttered in surprise, she wouldn't have had this lesson yet.
"Luna clearly knows a lot about them, maybe she's had a chat with Hagrid about them and told Ginny about them," James forced himself to look Sirius in the face as the two sat around and just discussed something for a moment, even though both faces were more sickly pale than any full moon had ever done to them. They should have had the most practice worrying about their friends, and yet nothing could prepare them for what this all felt like.
Harry tried to seize the idea he and Ron would go ahead then, and Hermione could stay back to attract more- but Hermione protested this at once, and Luna said it wasn't necessary as she spotted six more arriving, noting they must really stink.
"No more picking on her either Moony, I like her," Sirius muttered, an actual smile trying to twist away his grimace for his situation for the girls bluntness.
"Well that seems to leave only you, I'm sure I'll have plenty more to complain of," Remus huffed.
Harry snapped fine, time to get on then.
Remus gave a tense sigh, somehow his hands fisting harder than ever as he eyed Lily who was now watching him expectantly. Another one down, and it hadn't happened yet. Maybe, if they just kept getting through more of these, it wouldn't at all...
HPHPHPHP
*No one should deny movie Harry's zinger really was brilliant and I regret nothing putting it in here.

Some thoughts/analysis on the new episode, because the video itself and people's reactions were bugging me
Disclaimers: I don't hate Patton or Roman, I'm not calling Patton abusive or manipulative, as those terms insinuate knowing what you're doing and I don't think Patton does know how he's coming across
- First I wanna just point out, as a few others have, that Thomas is once again wearing black and white while discussing a grey-area issue. I love the attention to detail
- The recap only really highlights that Thomas admitted to wanting something that contradicted Patton's statement of why he's a good person (or more specifically "perfect", which, as nice and friendly and lovely as that sounds, is a toxic mindset and I like that Thomas touched on that at the end), which is an interesting point to cover honestly, especially since later Thomas challenges Patton to call him a good person
- "Now kiddo, if you're gonna dish out Fs, why don't we make them friendly hugs?" I understand Patton was trying to lighten the mood and joke a little and all that, but he's not letting Thomas just... Be angry/upset. He's trying to control how he feels and steer away from negative emotions, which I thought he learned not to do??
- I love that Patton heard what he was saying and stopped. Good on him. But what he replaced it with is called guilt tripping and that's not much better. "I'm surprised you would say something like that about your friends. I always thought that when it came to your pals, that sort of language would be... Ineffable?" It may sound gentle and sweet, but he's still saying "you can't talk about your friends like that" (and I get it, we all know that's not how Thomas really feels, but again he needs to be allowed to express himself). You can tell from Thomas's face while Patton's talking that the guilt tripping worked, at least for a moment.
- Anyone else notice a little Logan shining through in Thomas's words/actions the first portion of the video?
- "If our goals aligned with his what would that say?" Uhmmm gee lemme think Roman... Maybe that you care about Thomas's mental health and desires???
- I think it's very telling that during the rap Thomas cuts Patton off right before he's about to say something that, judging from the graphics, was going to make him sound heroic and said "I made this choice", while looking very... Upset.
- Okay so when Thomas was all "why didn't I just talk to them???" I felt hella vindicated but the second time I watched I finally heard Roman say "I mean I kinda brought that up before but it got shut down faster than an Antarctic icepop shop". Like... Fuck, they seriously do not appreciate or listen to Roman at all
- Patton brushing them off with "Eh well hindsight is 20/20" pissed me off so much. No empathy whatsoever. Jesus Christ.
- Roman's reaction when Thomas said no to the whole future vision thing made me laugh and no one is talking about it
- But yeah Thomas talking about using foresight has a total Logan Vibe
- Patton's reaction when Thomas says "I made a decision with a blindfold on" is... Interesting...
- Seriously that cat analogy was so specific.....
- One should never base their decisions on "well they've helped me before so I owe them" like. No. Patton, Roman, stop. He should have decided to go because he wanted to, not because he owed it to them or you made him feel like shit
- "Those baby-making Catholics" lmfaooooo
- "You, thinking about giving their wedding a pass all because of a callback that, really, might not work out". That bugged me too, because it can just as easily be argued he gave up his big break for a wedding he barely participated during. If we're being completely logical here (and borrowing from a later concept of how our time is better used), his time would have been better-spent at the callback since he wasn't even mentally present at the wedding
- "Maybe they understand, and maybe they still want you to go to the wedding but feel too guilty to say so. Or, maybe you end up going to the wedding, and they feel guilty seeing you there because they feel like they took a big opportunity away from you". First off, they did (or would have, had the conversation taken place and they insisted he come). Secondly I personally feel like he owed it to them (and yes, I'm aware how that sounds but I can't think of better phrasing) to talk about it with 100% honesty on both sides, because now he's angry that he went to their wedding and they have no idea. Sure, the vid ends with them coming over to catch up, but if it hadn't? That's the kind of shit that festers very easily. I feel like he'd have been more satisfied if he had still decided to go after talking with them. I think Thomas realizes this too when he responds to Roman's question with a very sure, very adamant "No."
- "This was our chance to be there for them when it counted". I know this is me reading into things but it felt like he was saying anything else he may have done for them doesn't matter or isn't good enough
- "Why does their complexion matter" LMFAOOOOOO omg roman
- "... We can all agree that you're a good fellow-" "Can we? All agree on that?" Like fuck, Thomas still isn't sure what Patton thinks of him? That cuts deep. And... Patton still hasn't apologized. He conceeded that he's "been a bit much", which is far from the same thing
- pfffft what the fuck was Roman trying to do???
- "Well that's a relief... I think". Meaning Thomas still isn't fucking sure where Patton stands. I have to admit his dialogue did sound a bit circuitous
- he almost said GameStop lmfao
- why is he fixating so much on frogger
- "At least 16 graphics!" I died laughing
- "By the liquid lipstick of William Shakespeare" wut the fue? Lmao
- "just like you don't have to get him a hotdog" "I feel like you kinda do... Maybe". I know Janus says it later on but he was right when he said peppering in a few "I don't know"s and "maybe"s does not a conversationally-conscious person make. Like, he didn't even add the maybe until Roman reacted negatively to what he was saying
- I'm surprised Logan said it'd be wrong for Thomas to keep his money to himself tbh
- Roman mouthing "behoove". Like, c'mon dude, stop being such a dick to Logan when he's just trying to help
- Logan's so done he's not even trying to hide it. Like you can see the annoyance clear on his little pixelated face
- Also did anyone notice that Logan kept getting cut off so the next time he "spoke" he made them read it aloud so they'd actually fucking listen
- "Yeah! As long as that's not the main reason you're doing it!" Honestly though, most people do good things for their own benefit; tax benefits, That Good Feeling, compliments from others etc. It doesn't diminish the effect of the good act, so who cares?????
- "You shouldn't do a good thing just because it makes you feel good... I-I think." He's trying so hard but he's just not understanding how this works is he. Also it's interesting that he preaches holding to your values and not nitpicking situations yet he's literally doing it right now because last time he just... Needed to counter Janus and couldn't admit he'd had a fair point
- "Deceit said you'd be doing the right thing for a selfish reason if you did it for your own emotional gain". You can tell by his tone he's trying to make Thomas see Deceit as wrong and bad but like literally two seconds later he audibly confirms he feels the same way
"Definitely! Maybe... I think so... What do you think?" Tbh I'm proud of him for asking someone else's opinion, esp cause he's screwing this up so horrendously
- man if Roman being scared to share his opinion after Patton visibly disagrees isn't a huge red flag idk what is
- the world of the video game is called AU I'm screaming
- I'll always be salty that Roman once again shoved a "dark side" into the villain roll without asking
- I don't agree with Patton automatically assuming that just because the hero wants a reward, it means he doesn't care about the people he saves getting it. People can have multiple motives and wanting recognition isn't bad or evil or selfish
- I'm so fucking glad Thomas snapped and asked "am I not allowed to feel good if I do something good" because that's basically what Patton's saying and no one was addressing it. And Patton saying that can't be a valid motive is honestly fucked up
- during the trolley problem the options toggle the most between morality, anxiety, and denial. Idk, it's just interesting
- it's also interesting that Patton views moving the trolley as worse than letting it stay, meaning he thinks small active murder is worse than larger, passive murder. Not bad or good or anything, just interesting
- I hate hate hate that Patton silences Logan when he's the one who asked him to say something, especially since he follows that with "oh you can't really learn good morality from a book hahahaha". Like dude just acknowledge that you don't agree but there are other valid points of view, my god
- also you can tell from the color that Janus totally put that skip button in, meaning Logan really, really wanted to continue but Janus could see it wasn't going to get them where they needed to go
- "stu-ooper dooper unique mustache" lmfaooooo
- Thomas keeps coming back with something along the lines of "I need the answer to X so I can meet your expectations". He even says "I don't understand what I need to change so I can meet your standard". Last time I did a post like this, back when SvS came out, I said Patton has too much sway/control over Thomas, and he still does. Thomas doesn't try nearly as hard to "meet the standards" of his other sides, but in this instance he's desperate to know how he can appease Patton. I don't think that's necessarily a good thing, given that it's likely because he wants Patton to say without hesitation that he's a good person
- Roman thinks he's the problem I wanna cry
- "And I'm an awful driver" I laughed so hard
- "I only mean well when I say that that is the stupidest thing you have ever said" I can't stop laughing XD
- "You're just blowing smoke" seriously someone help me
- Roman's reaction when Thomas says he feels guilty just killed me. They all just acknowledged that Roman is his motivator and Thomas comes out and says his motives make him feel guilty? Ouch
- "Doing nothing is even worse!" Patton honey I'm begging you to please stop talking omg this is going so poorly
- "doing nothing is worse than doing a good thing for the wrong reasons" first off, who's to say what a wrong reason is, and secondly, that's an interesting take from the man who refused to move the trolley 👀
- oooof Thomas's relief when Logan cuts in though
- "Huuuuuhhhh I do need help" fuck, I wanna cry, poor Thomas
- "Logan, like you said this isn't your area of expertise" ITS NOT YOURS EITHER ROMAN OMG
- "Every point you've made in today's discussion has contradicted that sentiment" YES LOGAN JANUS SLAY. Also anyone else notice Patton looking to the others for validation because I Sure Did
- oh man though I thought Logan was finally getting the chance to lay into Patton and take him down a peg and it turned out to be Janus
- "Oh, is it not? Please, correct me if I'm wrong." yeah paTTON CORRECT HIM IF HES WRONG (notice how he doesn't even have an argument to that, all he can say is "you're wrong!")
- honestly the way he goes from 0 to 60 should've tipped us off that that was Janus
- I wanna know if Patton turned into a muscular frog irl
- idk Patton feels like a villain when he's all "Thomas you choose!"
- "What have you done with Logan?!" "Nothing at all and I resent the question" weeeeeelp there goes loceit
- even Janus admits Patton is misleading unintentionally can we all calm down now
- I find it interesting that Thomas willingly stays behind Janus
- "Sure if he's in that kind of situation then of course he should focus on himself. But does he deserve it? I don't know." *Record scratch* excuse me wHAT?????? And like, you can't ignore the obvious symbolism behind that attack missing Janus and hitting Thomas. Thomas is knocked out and Patton just ... Keeps talking? Jesus fucking christ
- and Roman so adamantly attacking Janus has a very pre-AA vibe to it
- "Not that any of you care, but I am unharmed, and I don't want to talk about it." Thomas looks like the only one genuinely concerned when he says this and that hurts
- Janus looks so happy that Logan's backing him I wanna cry my baby aaaaaaa
- SOMEONE FINALLY ACKNOWLEDGED THE CHOICE ROMAN MADE AAAAAAA THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU can we stop acting like Janus is evil now please
- "Well when is it enough?!" ".... Trees?" I'm STILL LAUGHING SOMEONE HELP ME
- I'm so fucking happy Thomas doesn't agree with Roman about trusting Janus
- Roman laughing and saying Janus's name is stupid and Janus's jab about him and Remus just... Gutted me y'all. Thems some hurt boys. And he looks to Thomas and Patton and they just... Can't side with him, cause they know that was hella fucking rude of Roman.
- I genuinely believe that Janus's nod meant Thomas was telling the truth. Based on his facial expression (which was slight but idk I notice more stuff than most people apparently???) He was trying to reassure Roman. And Roman just... Took it the completely wrong way, because he still thinks all Janus does is lie. When Roman says "wow, I can't believe this" you can actually see Janus's smile disappearing, because he realizes Roman took the nod the wrong way
- aaaaand then he immediately goes into attacking Janus. *Sigh*
- "Everything's gonna be okay, kiddo. We love you." "*Scoff* Right." I truly believe the next video is gonna be about Roman, because there's no way in hell they could ignore the obvious hurt and self-deprecation coming off of Roman
- "Janus? Is there a limit to how many times a person can say sorry before you have to admit that they're just bad for you?" Patton was talking about himself. Whether Janus was trying too hard to be witty and missed that or what, his reply hurt Patton, and you can see that Janus realizes his mistake with Patton's reaction. We have to remember that this isn't a side who's used to how the others communicate, though. He doesn't spend time with them outside of the few videos he's shown up in because of how they treat him. It's gonna take him time to get the little things like this and until then there's gonna be a lot of hurt feelings and (hopefully) apologies
- Janus immediately backtracks once he realizes what the real question was and says "... it depends... How many things have they had to apologize for? How frequently do they have to apologize for things? How terrible were the things that they did? One of the biggest factors in my very humble opinion is whether or not they seem to be making an honest effort to do better" this is Janus trying to tell Patton "you aren't bad for Thomas. I see how hard you're trying. It's okay"
- you can totally see Janus realizing why Patton fights him so hard while Patton is explaining how hard shit's gotten as Thomas grows up
- "Janus?" "I'll take care of him" y'all I need the tissues
- Janus trying to lighten the mood with the whole push-someone-down-the-stairs thing just... Made me die laughing. Y'all know he's hella good at April fool's pranks okay? Okay
- "You're not stuck with an evil snake boy, you're just stuck with a snake boy" HES SUCH A DORK I LOVE HIM
- I reacted the exact same way to Thomas saying Janus was right omg
Again, I'm not saying I hate any of the characters, this is just a stream-of-consciousness analysis-and-commentary-type post on the new episode

More Than Meets the Eye #8- I’m Sorry, the Domain Name thebomb.com is Already in Use
It’s been a hot minute since we last got to focus on the Scavengers- ah, the chaotic nature of comic print schedules! Luckily, we’ve got a Story So Far to remind us where we left off.
Tumblr media
Our issue starts 10,000 years in the past, where Fulcrum is riding in a plane and preparing to drop with his fellow K-Cons. It’s crowded, there’s a guy crying in the corner, everyone’s wearing the same outfit, and no one’s got time to go home and change. How embarrassing!
Tumblr media
Torque’s never heard of personal space, as is made apparent by his power-stance pelvic thrusting here. Fulcrum is less than impressed by this show of bravado, but there’s no time to dwell on it because it’s time to jump the glory of Megatron.
Tumblr media
At least one of them is having a good time.
In the present day, the Scavengers are freaking the hell out, because as it turns out, it’s THEM who’re afraid of the DJD.
Krok keeps trying to reach his old squad, as if anything short of Megatron himself would be able to save them from the horrible death coming their way, while Flywheels grapples with his faith and inferiority complex at the same time.
Tumblr media
Spinister brings up a decent point, despite Misfire’s earlier claim that he’s the stupidest creature in the universe- Misfire is kind of an asshole, so anything he says involving just about anything should be taken with a grain of salt- but the problem is, nobody in their right mind would incriminate themselves to the DJD if they could help it. Also, everyone knows that Tarn’s got his head way too far up his own ass to have any sort of rhyme or reason for anything he does beyond the 𝕒𝕖𝕤𝕥𝕙𝕖𝕥𝕚𝕔.
Krok leans on his career as a military strategist to come up with a few ideas, and the boys decide to fight the DJD, after so much bitching and moaning.
Tumblr media
But the DJD… the Decepticon Justice Division… are also Decepticons. Crankcase, are you gatekeeping here, my dude? Because I don’t think this is an internet debate you’re going to win.
The fellas decide that they’ll do what they do best, and use what’s been laying around in the dust and blood for thousands of years to fight off some of the scariest folks in the galaxy. What could possibly go wrong?
Over on the Lost Light, Chromedome and Skids are having a secret rendezvous at the oil reservoir, in secret and behind Rewind’s back, as Chromedome proceeds to call Skids handsome. No, they aren’t having a secret love affair, but are instead going to mnemosurgery the shit out of Skids. Rewind doesn’t like that Chromedome is still doing this, but what Rewind doesn’t know won’t hurt him, surely. We’ll find out just why exactly Rewind isn’t a fan of Chromedome’s line of work later on, but for now it’s time to dig around in a hot guy’s brain.
Just kidding, it’s Scavenger time.
The Scavengers have set up a trap for the DJD, and that trap is Grimlock; still locked in his stasis pod, they’re pulling a “rigged box and stick with a piece of cheese inside” maneuver. Let’s see how this plays out.
Tumblr media
Hmm. That’s not a great start.
The Peaceful Tyranny lands, Tarn transforms, comes down the gangplank, transforms, waxes poetic about the brilliance of the Decepticon copy writers, transforms, drives 15 feet, transforms, then, after clearly stating that the big stasis pod in the middle of nowhere is a trap, opens it anyway.
Tumblr media
Never has a nut-punch been more deserved than in this exact moment.
Grimlock has a strong start, but almost immediately begins to flag, as he’s put down by Tesaurus. This is why we do warmups prior to rigorous exercise, people!
Misfire tries to sneak off while Tarn’s distracted whispering into Grimlock’s ear like one would a lover, but that doesn’t really work out.
Tumblr media
Back over on the Lost Light, Chromedome’s having a time and a half trying to parse just what the hell’s going on with Skid’s head. All his memories from the last year aren’t lost, but rather destroyed, which is concerning to say the least, only leaving a need to escape. There’s also some nasty beast in Skid’s more distant past that Chromedome can see. However, it would seem that Skid’s brain took the out when it saw one and buried that nightmare so deep it’ll take multiple sticks of dynamite to wiggle it loose, so Chromedome’s leaving it where it is.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
What this tells me is that Rung has no business referring patients to Chromedome for treatment, if this is how we’re meant to handle repressed memories. Remember back in issue #6, when Fort Max claimed he didn’t remember what happened in Garrus 9, and Rung was all “oh let me just call my guy Chromedome and have him stir your brain around like a martini”? Turns out, either that’s a terrible idea and Rung hasn’t paid attention to the work that half his coworkers on Kimia were involved with, or he was making an empty threat, which doesn’t seem like great practice for a therapist.
Pretty fucked up of you, Rung.
Anyways, Skids is less than thrilled by this, and demands Chromedome do it anyway, which Chromedome promptly refuses. He’ll play around with his own life, but not his friends’. Skids walks off in a huff, because I guess no one’s ever refused his pretty ass anything before, but asks a question before he leaves.
Tumblr media
Well, I’m sure that won’t be a major plot point later on.
Let’s check back in with the Scavengers.
Tumblr media
Between Tesaurus’ line here, Tarn harassing Grimlock, and Skids’ asking Chromedome why he pulled out during their secret meeting, this is probably the most sexually-charged issue of MTMTE so far.
Flywheels’ only purpose as a character was so that Roberts had a stand-in for the word “fuck” last issue. Sorry, dude, you’ve done your job. Off to the shredder with you!
Tumblr media
No time to worry about him, Krok, because it’s time for your face mask treatment at the universe’s shittiest spa.
Tumblr media
The worst part about this is the fact that he’s being held a full nelson by the DJD’s record-keeper, who turns into a fucking chair and doesn’t even have eyes. Oh, the indignity of it all.
Misfire tries to save Krok, but all he manages to do is prove that his nickname isn’t ironic in the slightest. Then he’s attacked by a dog.
Tumblr media
That shadow being tossed towards the horizon in the background is Crankcase, who lands right about where Fulcrum’s been hiding this entire time, like the giant coward he is, as he watches these guys who tried to steal his organs get murdered to death. He runs off, and Crankcase plays to stereotype and gripes about the whole situation, until he notices something above him.
Tumblr media
Then he immediately drops dead, because as it turns out Misfire wasn’t exaggerating when he said Crankcase would die if he ever even thought about smiling.
Over in Tarn’s soliloquy corner, he’s managed to stab his thumb so hard into Grimlock’s throat it’s literally bleeding, as he trash talks the Scavengers, calling them the “six biggest failures of all”. Harsh. Grimlock’s not contributing to the diatribe, probably because there’s a hole in his throat that’s about where a trach would go.
Then Tarn has a bit of a problem, as he’s stepped on by a robot that’s roughly twenty times bigger than him.
Tumblr media
I guess Crankcase must be the sixth worst Decepticon, because he’s gotten himself hooked up with this massive Jaeger Cybernought, one of the many that are strapped to the back of the Worldsweeper they found last issue. It’s a big friggin’ ship, we can forgive the oversight.
The DJD aren’t impressed by this new toy, and almost immediately take it down. Tarn, really starting to get peeved off about not getting to what they actually came here to do, yells for Fulcrum to show himself. Fulcrum, as it turns out, has managed to climb on top of the Worldsweeper, and is at least a few hundred feet above them. Because none of the DJD can fly, they have no choice but to listen to Fulcrum’s little speech.
Fulcrum was forged at the height of the Decepticon Empire, when the rhetoric was more “space eugenics sucks” and less “murder everything while Megatron has weird sexual tension with Optimus in the background”. Of course, they were still hunting organic species to flex, so maybe things weren’t perfect… though it isn’t like Fulcrum minded that aspect. Dude’s a little space racist.
Spacist.
The way Fulcrum sees it, folks like Tarn went and fucked up a good thing by being all murderous and violent just because they could, unlike his good pals the Scavengers, who are only murderous and violent when it’s necessary. “Necessary” is a word that’s played with kind of fast and loose with them, mind you, but they seem like pretty swell guys to Fulcrum. They’re definitely better than the DJD.
With one last “fuck you” to Tarn, Fulcrum takes a running leap off the top of this astonishingly huge ship and finally reveals just why exactly K-Cons aren’t known for doing fear.
Tumblr media
Because who the fuck has ever asked a bomb how it’s feeling?
Everyone clears the area, as he hits the ground… and nothing happens. Fulcrum is marked off the List, the Scavengers are added, and the DJD fuck off without checking that their target is actually dead so they can go find Overlord and kick his ass.
Fulcrum’s fine, by the way.
Tumblr media
This is why we check our work, Tarn.
Fulcrum, who is, again, a bomb, is a bit curious as to what’s happened here. Turns out, prior to the boys riffling through his torso for spare parts, Spinister- master surgeon Spinister- removed the explosive charge tucked up against his robot liver. Fulcrum is amazed by this news, because it’s apparently a super hard thing to do.
Are we sure that Spinister isn’t just super nearsighted? The world’s been described as a series of vaguely hostile shapes, is he playing it safe and attacking the things he can’t figure out within a few seconds? Maybe all that hand-staring he does is to gauge how shitty his vision is on a day to day basis, and everyone just assigned him Stupid At Birth because trying to understand our friends is for losers.
Then again, we should also remember that everyone in the Scavengers is so incredibly stupid, they couldn’t figure out between the five of them that Fulcrum had been alive while it was happening. Spinister probably wasn’t gentle with that procedure since he thought he was working with a corpse; for all we know, Fulcrum’s got his sparkcase inside-out now.
Crankcase carries poor, faceless Krok over, and Fulcrum laments on the fact that Krok’s squad never turned up. Crankcase implies something ominous about Krok’s method of communication with his old squadron, then we get the skinny on Fulcrum’s whole deal.

Yes, yes, I know B’lahr 39 is a reference to Wizard of Oz actor Bert Lahr, who played the Cowardly Lion. I caught that one before I’d even checked TFWiki for interesting notes on this issue. I was a film major in college, I’m legally required to know every single bit of trivia about the Wizard of Oz. It’s the second thing they beat into you, right after watching Citizen Kane for the 87th time.
Also, how many nerds are going to be in this series? Fulcrum’s a technician, Krok’s a strategist, Spinister and 3/4 of the Lost Light are doctors in some form or fashion, Tarn’s a friggin drama kid, the list goes on.
When Fulcrum was caught, the original plan was to have him tortured and killed at Styx, a  Decepticon penal colony, when plans changed and he got reformatted along with everyone else in the joint to be a suicide bomber.
If Fulcrum seems like a bit of a generic name for a giant space robot, it’s probably because it is. Fulcrum’s original alt-mode wasn’t a bomb- in fact, I have no idea what it’s meant to be. Word of God makes the claim that he turned into a leg prior to getting K-classed, but since Combiner teams have to be made in this continuity, that’s not what he came into being as. He’s got a tiddy window like Rung- something that will be more apparent when Josh Burcham is replaced by Joana Lafluente as the primary colorist for the comic run- but that seems more indicative of having minimal armor than any sort of alt.
Anyway, there’s something in the reformat to K-Con that compels one to switch to bomb mode when you jump ship- but it didn’t happen for Fulcrum, because he was so unbelievably terrified that he might have actually defied biology.
The others have stopped listening by this point, and have joined Spinister in poking the still-prone Grimlock with a stick. Misfire, in the first show of something like empathy we’ve really gotten from him, asks the fellas to help the poor guy up.

Sure, make the guy who’s a stiff breeze away from cracking in half lift the biggest motherfucker on this planet. Sounds like a plan.
Misfire does his damnedest to communicate to Grimlock that they come in peace.
Tumblr media
Behold, the price of nostalgia!
This isn’t exactly where we left Grimlock last time he was in an IDW publishing. The last guy to have his hands on everyone’s favorite dinobot was Simon Furman, and he was a lot more well-spoken there. It would seem that no one got out of Garrus 9 unscathed.
This development is a bit of a problem for the Scavengers, who now aren’t quite sure what to do with a infamous warrior-bastard who’s mentally regressed to the point that he’s got to think about what his own name is. To be fair, most people wouldn’t know what to do in that sort of situation. Doesn’t help that the guy who usually has the braincell is currently passed out from face-based puncture trauma.
Misfire decides that they’ll take Grimlock along with them for collateral, and everyone is so impressed by him actually planning something out, they forget to think about the logistics of housing a whole entire T-Rex.
The guys, I guess just leaving Grimlock and the unconscious Krok in the dirt, go to find what’s left of Flywheels- basically the hips down is still intact. After a few kind words, the final rites are performed.
Tumblr media
You will be missed, Flywheels, clearly.
You never see the Autobots resorting to cannibalism like this. Maybe they’re just better at making it not look like a vulture swarm.
Many, many months later, long after the Scavengers have left the planet of Clemency, a lone figure visits what’s left of dear Flywheels- it’s the Necrobot. That’s right, the Robo-Reaper is real, and it looks like he’s been busy.
Tumblr media
…Spoilers, Necrobot! Come on!
After the story proper, we get a Meet the ‘Cons page. Let’s take a gander, shall we?
Tumblr media
No.
NO.
NO!
I draw the line at this motherfucking sniper rifle having a college degree. What possible scientific field of study could he possibly-
It’s ballistics. He studied ballistics, didn’t he?
You know what? Fuck this, actually. See y’all later.
…Fuck you, Vos.
