No offense to people that find this a rewarding activity with their dog...but if your dog needs you to walk beside them to be convinced to pull weight in a weight pull your dog is likely not motivated, enjoying itself, nor showing breed appropriate drive (in pulling breeds) imo.

#dogblr #dog sports #weight pull #you can either walk behind the dog as one would in sledding or you can call the dog from a set handler line #none of this walking out with them bullshit clapping along to help convince them to go forward #dogs can be convinced to work for us in those instances #but this doesn't show a breed appropriate drive and joy to work with heavy weight #like i see too many ukc weight pulls where the handler is right next to the dog trying to get them to go #while the dog shows stress yawns and disinterest #like my dogs go forward on their own? why should we have to convince malamutes to go forward #if you have to convince a sled dog to go forward like that you're missing a fundemental part of its correct drive to work #i understand off breeds needing some convincing #but i still maintain that ukc pulls specifically allow too much convincing the dog to do the sport #vs having a dog that actually enjoys what they are doing #if you have to convince the dog go down to a weight they don't need convincing for and start there #there is a differences between what dogs are physically capable of and what they are mentally prepared to be joyful about
