I finally figured out what one of the big problems with Crimson Flower in FE3H is. It’s that it wants what Heaven’s Feel has, but the writers don’t understand what the actual point of Heaven’s Feel was in the first place or why the route works, and also they’re too goddamn cowardly to commit, so what it ends up being is Heaven’s Feel but it were terrible and awful.

#there's a lot of points i want to go into later on what cf does wrong in trying to basically copy hf #like how any attempt to match cf to hf in terms of themes just runs counter to the point of the rest of the game #(byleth losing enlightenment isn't the same as shirou giving up his heroic ideals At All) #or how you can't DO an ideals/Greater Good vs people you love conflict like what shirou has with byleth #because byleth is a self insert paper doll who doesn't get to have their own personality and character #or how edelgard herself is very iffy as a sakura type and her crimes are a little too Real to be comfortable with #(i think opinions on sakura would be different if she were like. really racist towards dragons. or if she turned into emperor palpatine) #+ often just nonsensical in terms of writing #(imagine if when sakura went dark sakura she teamed up with zouken and shinji to go beat up the einzberns. #that's literally what edelgard does in going after the fantasy church instead of her actual abusers) #or how the happy ending in cf feels deeply dissonant and unearned compared to hf's more bittersweet ending #or how there's issues with edelgard vs sakura where sakura can be saved and desperately WANTS to be saved #but edelgard *cannot* be saved and will shoot down every opportunity she gets to turn back #it's all just. fe3h wants what f/sn has in terms of themes. that's basically it.
