Hunter's Comfort Food
I think, at this point, you all know my personal favorite Owl House headcanon. I shouldn't have to say what it is, you already know what I'm about to discuss. However, I am going to describe why Hunter loves what he does and maybe you'll adopt it as your headcanon too...
Tumblr media
It all started when Hunter ran away from the Emperor's Coven Post-Hollow Mind. He'd been living in the paranormatorim in Hexside since, building a nest and living on snacks. Gus, having seen the former Golden Guard living so dreadfully, offers him his lunch, which, among other things, included a sandwich.
Tumblr media
Hunter then helps Gus escape Adrian and the scouts, citing his reason for doing so being because Gus offered him food. When the illusionist questions him on it, Hunter says "It was a really good sandwich." As many have pointed out, Hunter's diet in the castle was probably miserable. On top of it, he was clearly malnourished, as several characters (Luz, Eda, Amity, Edric, Emira, Matt) have said. So it is assumed he didn't have a great time food wise, which is why he looked so happy eating that loaf of bread in King's Tide...
Tumblr media
Yeah, look at him go. Happily chewing on some bread and being pleased as punch over it. And this is where my HC came to be, Hunter and Gus bonding over a simple offering of food. A kindness Hunter had probably never known until then, combined with something that probably saved his life or at the very least made him feel much better. I feel like that sole interaction weighed on Hunter's heart, and it made him fall in love with sandwiches. After all, without Gus' sandwich, he would have never been able to sit down and actually talk about how he was feeling about Belos. He wouldn't have bonded with Gus and helped the younger witch when he needed it most. Hunter developed an intensely strong bond with Gus, a friendship and brotherhood forged in love, trust, and sandwiches.
Tumblr media
That said, I assume when they were trapped in the human realm, Hunter started looking into various types of sandwiches (with the help of Camila and Luz, of course.) Figuring out what the best meats and cheeses were. What kinds of vegetables go well with them (information he totally shared with Willow, obviously.) The best kinds of bread and condiments to compliment the other ingredients. I assume he learned about what foods he liked and disliked (boy loves himself some olives, btw.) Of course, this eventually lead to the ultimate creation. His pride and joy: The True Hero Sub. The culmination of his knowledge and understanding of foods that allowed him to create divinity between two slices of bread (well, shoved into a loaf of french bread, but hey, who's counting?)
Tumblr media
Of course, this is a BIG sandwich. I know, that's the one I made myself. It is about 2' long (60.69cm for you non-Americans.) It is not something you can eat by yourself, and Hunter would never want to eat it alone. Because of this sandwich, Hunter came up with his philosophy on food; "Food tastes best when shared with others." So I assume the first time he made one, he shared it with the others. Definitely Gus, his sandwich brethren, and possibly Willow, someone Hunter would be thrilled to share his accomplishments with.
Tumblr media
And this probably continued as he became an adult. I bet anything that Hunter has a series of sandwiches he brings with him to work. He maybe even wrote down his own cookbook of sorts for them. You KNOW anytime he had a new idea, Gus was the first person he told about it. He probably even made a book to make sandwiches to represent Cosmic Frontier characters (you know Gus AND Camila happily assisted him.) And that's my headcanon. A boy, his best friend, and a type of food that brought them closer and possibly even saved a life in more than one sense. In this house, we respect the Sandwich Bros. (Tagging @childlikegoblinqueen, @unniebeans, and @probablyhuntersmom, who I assume have also had this headcanon infect their brain for some time. *evil laugh*)

Amity is one of the people who understands Luz the most (Part 3).
After the King's Tide event, Luz is in one of her worst moments. Despite this, Amity is always there to be her biggest comfort. There are several times Amity can know how Luz is feeling even though Luz doesn't even directly say anything.
8. Thanks to Them
8.1.
Amity is the only one noticing how Luz always blames herself when the group failed to build the Portal Door.
Tumblr media
Though Luz doesn't even verbally say that, but from seeing Luz slouches down, Amity understands all.
Tumblr media
8.2. This is my favorite moment.
Just from one glance at Luz's eyes, Amity immediately knows how much Luz misses the Boiling Isles and how she wishes to do magic again.
Tumblr media
So Amity does the light glyph and lets Luz lift it up as if she was doing magic as well. Amity wants Luz to feel like she can still do magic despite being in the Human Realm. Amity also wants Luz to feel connected to the Boiling Isles and feel hopeful that they can return to the Boiling Isles and fix everything.
Tumblr media
8.3.
Amity is the one coming up with the idea of the HayRide when she sees the poster that Luz drops on the floor. Luz doesn't say anything about that, yet Amity knows that Luz needs a break from everything. Amity wants Luz to be happy and enjoy cosplaying as her favorite character.
Tumblr media
8.4.
When the truth is revealed, Amity is sympathetic and understanding of Luz's side. She reassures Luz that she doesn't hate her, which helps Luz feel less insecure since being hated by everyone is Luz's biggest fear at that time.
Tumblr media
Amity also appreciates how Luz never gives up and always fights for them.
Tumblr media
9. For the Future.
Amity understands Luz's struggling to connect with her Palisman right after seeing Luz laying in the nest with Stringbean in the egg form.
Tumblr media
When Luz pulls away from the kiss, Amity doesn't press Luz any further like asking why Luz does that or coming closer. She doesn't even get angry or sulky at Luz and storm away. Instead, Amity just stays still and changes the subject. She understands that Luz needs space.
Tumblr media
And she also knows the reason why Luz comes to that room and Luz's biggest concern, which is saving Eda and King.

An 'A-ha!' fandom moment, ft. The Owl House
These comments I screencapped from a user I watch elsewhere really hit like a brick in the face to me. I'm blotting out OP's name, mostly cuz this was just a shower thought they had rather than any meaningful open discussion with people, but it ended up making me realize something (also NO they're not some contrarian AntiSJW type or even hate TOH; they're a very gay+trans writer themselves. Sorry if youknowwhoyouare sees this and recognizes ur posts but you don't allow reblogs or comments and I wanted to present it on my own):
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Owl House was always hampered by being killed halfway through, writing wise and that will always be it's greatest 'sin'. However, OP's comment made me realize how much the show kind of tells you it's characters are flawed rather than actually give them arcs to suggest it, especially in season 1. When I say flawed I don't mean lacking quirks that are relatable but human: Eda is a recluse criminal; King thought he could kill people and acted like it; Luz is a genki girl; Amity starts off as a bully; Hunter...is unfortunately Hunter, ect. Those ARE flaws, character wise, but in the presence of the complete story (as complete as the show will ever be) they really aren't actually flawed, bad people in anyway.
Before I go further, two things: 1, IN ALL FAIRNESS, this is why myself and others particularly LOVE the characters and why TOH was a comfort show for me rather than a 'high-tension narrative'. The characters are a lot of what you want and hope to be like and I think that's really sweet and enjoyable, especially for horror and especially for kids.
2, NO! I DON'T think any particular bad faith cartoon reviewer opinions about coddling certain characters and punishing others IS WHAT DANA and co did at all here! Steven Universe and certain crap-reviewer's takes ON Steven Universe and how it's characters were flawed but overly forgiven by the fandom the show itself are NOT the b-all end-all of this discussion, nor are they the reason The Owl House is the way it is!
The context op was talking about was how in the upcoming hate crime The Last Airbender live-action show the showrunners are going to tone down Sokka's sexism because they think it's 'unlikable'. Even though, we all knew as children that this was an arc for him and it was WRONG, so axing it because we the audience lack nuance to recognize characters we love doing problamtic-sisms is BEYOND annoying.
Op's point is how The Owl House in particular doesn't actually expect much or want much out of it's characters. Or audience. For any infighting early on about how much Amity should 'die' because of reasons, that's really just fandom infighting when you get right down to it. There's nothing on par with the disagreement people have over, say, the Diamonds from Steven Universe and how Steven 'totally forgave them or 'should have murdered them in cold blood' about The Owl House. And like...from a fandom point of view that's good, but otherwise the show is pretty concrete the way you're supposed to see certain characters vs other shows which allow you to make up your own mind.
Avatar, Star vs the Forces of Evil (pre finale), Centaurworld and Amphibia all showcase your protagonists being genuinely, intensely flawed. Sure, maybe some neckbreather crap-pseudocritic complains that they 'made the unlikable' or whatever (i.e. me with Friendship is Magic) but overall the actual point is HOW the characters actually have grown and have ended up with the ending and morality they need. The villains, no not Zukos or 'redeemed' villains who joined the protagonist squad, VILLAIN-villains, will always be at least one serious step behind the protagonists and that's what give the protagonists the cautionary wherewithal to end them like they should and not 'be like them'. It's such a fufilling narrative, there's a reason people like it so much because it's really good when it's delivered well.
Removed from my fandom gaze; the Owl House feels like it's saying it has that ultimate messaging and character arc when it actually doesn't. Your protagonists have the endearing aspirational-part totally covered, but as far as the actual 'edge' and nuance? Well...
Eda is, at most, naughty. She really isn't any kind of morally sidetracked character. She's an outlaw because literally her society is awful to her and she's in the right to be against it. She's cursed but she's not addicted to her potions or hiding it or not really taking care of herself or her loved ones because of it. Her actual biggest flaw is that she's been 'running away' from problems rather than dealing with them, but I'd be lying if that wasn't suggested more than it's actually portrayed; or at least, dealt with fast enough in "Eda's Requiem". A bigger issue I see, even if it's what's also endearing about her, is that she REALLY isn't a flawed caregiver at all. It's portrayed as her most redeeming feature that she's otherwise a good mom and mentor, but Eda having virtually no problems in raising Luz and King just, again, makes her feel ONLY aspirational. All of the angst about 'failing' to parent and making up for it is moved all onto Camilla and sadly all of that angst for her is mostly within an already bloated episode. Eda, while an absolute mood, lacks any real kind of edge. Does she need it or not? I don't know. Discuss, kids.
Luz, like OP says, is treated like this high-energy super-optimist. She's like Star Butterfly in that her fangirlism and impulsivness are supposed to get her in trouble. But, she absolutely just isn't one when you break it down. Besides episode 2, Luz really is never that inconsiderate or lost in her fantasies ever again throughout the show. She never has anything like what Steven goes through where he hops into Larz' body and makes things worse for people by trying to fix things- which is not only good filler but it calls forward to the ultimate ending of Steven's arc for the series - Luz is just sort of adorable. Luz has blindsided by hype moments of weakness, like when she accidentally hurts Owlbert or messes with Amity's secret room, but still always level headed and down-to-earth. Her impulses are always kind of treated like...excusable? Because, again, they usually are. This is a large part about what makes her self-hatred at the end of the show about accidentally helping Belos' feel 'forced'. Even MOREso than what Hunter and Daddy Titan explain about Belos using her, we the audience never see Luz's choice to go back in time and try and get answers from Philip as being anything other than just, you know, logical. Because it is. The show acts like what Luz did was reckless and bad and that she was SOOO overtaken by her fangirlism about Philip and now just how much she has to live with the guilt and regret of helping being duped by him...it just doesn't come off that way at all. She was only so much excited about meeting him and her interest was getting home to her mother. In terms of comparing her to Philip, that's all fine and good, but again it's not 'flawed'. Not really, anyway.
Lilith absolutely has it the worst...but I kinda think people know that. She arguably does have the most morally-gray turning point in the show given what she did to her own sister. But neither the characters nor her nor the show really hold her accountable in any lasting way for cursing Eda. Lilith is the closest we get to that 'Diamond'-dilemma. She does 'make things right way too quickly and it's obvious to even her biggest fans that her character is really rushed in this area. They lampshade what Lilith did and that she was their villain in season 2 and 2B, but lampshading isn't the same thing as progress. As a result, as a Lilith fan you kind of never really forgive her for what she did. None of that's her fault, cause' you know...she doesn't exist, but it makes it frustrating that you the fan watching the show is doing the heavy-lifting in your mind in this area. What you come away from is this feeling of loving the characters for being able to work everything out. They're engaging and nuanced in theory, but you also feel robbed, w or w/o the Disney interference, of them being fully rounded or WHOLE. It kinda feels like 'and suddenly, he wasn't racist, anymore' all the time with every character ever with except Amity's mom, the Titan Trappers and Belos.
The reason everyone dunks on Star vs the Forces of Evil's finale, (besides being salty over ship wars and declaring THAT'S the reason for the drop in quality) is that 'Cleaved' could have not only worked but REALLY worked. It just needed to be better written and processed as an ending. Instead people reviled Star, the protagonist we're supposed to be rooting for, for what feels like impulsive apathy and cruelty towards everyone else by destroying magic, as opposed to it being an actually selfless sacrifice that makes her different than Toffee. Ultimatley, I do prefer The Owl House, unfinished as it is, to any of that. But yeah... I can now never unsee the characters as being what they are: fun but indulgent when they're supposedly complex. Indulgent is never bad u guys, but the problem is when you only have that to go on while insisting you have fully developed characters, there's a lot of the show telling you how to feel and how to come away from it rather than letting you, the audience, make of that yourself. As annoying as fan-wars can be over this stuff and when people are either WAAAY to forgiving of their villain blorbo or form hate-campaigns over Glub Shitto for ruining their life, it is ultimately a good thing that shows give you that chance to really see the characters that way at all.
The Owl House is, as OP calls it, "tumblr feels" not for being gay and magical and fun and wholesome and indulgent like that stuff is GREAT. It feels 'tumblr oriented' in that it all kind of feels too easy even when it's not for your protagonists. It's never actually "challenging". I guess, in as far as 'good' indulgence is concerned, it's as warm and fuzzy and a happy AU fanfic you found but not so much the Pacifist Ending of Undertale where you really do feel bad if you rectify the good ending in anyway. It's fun and it's comfort food, but not entirely lasting as you want it to be???
Amphibia, I think, was also way better than Owl House in this respect. It wasn't perfect cause nothing is but you really got a feeling for HOW flawed Marcy, Sasha, the townsfolk and even Hop Pop throughout their arcs-- which made it so SO rewarding to see them get their happy endings and come together to defeat the core and be the better people they needed to become.
The Owl House is my favorite where I think Amphibia is the better of the two.

So with the owl house ending I thought I should admit something on tumblr, the fact that kikimora is unironically one of my favourite characters in the show.
She’s such a pathetic angry gremlin women that does in order:
•Becomes basically the secretary to the emperor of her whole world.
•Starts beef with a literal 16 year old child despite being a grown ass women because she thinks said child is getting better treatment from the emperor than her (he’s not).
•Attempts to murder said child on multiple occasions including using a fucking dragon.
•becomes ultra paranoid of literally fucking everything because she thinks the child is trying to steal her position (he’s not).
•upon failing all her missions due to her aforementioned Child obsession gets demoted and then balls her eyes out while she gets comforted by a different 14 year old child who try’s to redeem her and kiki then basically temporarily joins the resistance against her former boss but then immediately does an Italy and switches sides again because boomer poison ivy told her she was getting a promotion (the promotion is not dying).
•Becomes depressed and a caffeine addict.
•Depression cured as she is given a mech suit by the parenting antichrist immediately turns back to her favourite pastime attempting to murder children.
•kidnaps who she thinks is the 16 year old she’s been trying to murder but is actually the 14 year old who tried to redeem her but before she finds out her boss tells her to kill herself now.
•In the pit of corpses of clones of the 16 year old she’s been trying to murder unknowingly tells the god that her boss has been pretending to be able to understand that her boss threw the walkie talky he uses to communicate with a different elder god into said corpse pit.
•Said elder god is unleashed starting the literal apocalypse meaning she is partially responsible.
Season 3 for the future spoilers in the next bits so if you haven’t watched it yet stop reading now:
•While the literal apocalypse is going on she dresses herself and her mech suit like children and sneaks into a school (SERIOUSLY WHY THE FUCK DOES EVERYTHING SHE DO INVOLVE CHILDREN SHE IS AN ADULT) and convinces angry lesbian school bully whose crush ran away with a girl from another dimension to help her rule the school so they can start their new empire( this plan somehow works for months) then the main characters come back and she decides the best course of action is too drug them and throw them in the ultragore nest.
•She then try’s to murder the SAME children with the SAME mech suit however is stopped by the only thing that she’s never faced before, a person over the age of 18 also known as gods gift to parenting who critical bonks her on the head by throwing a baseball bat at her and mispronouncing her name.
•The last we see of her in the episode is she is attacked by a horde of angry kids including the angry lesbian she coerced into helping her and if that’s how kikicumfuckororororora dies it would be a fitting end.
And that’s the end of my summary while everyone else is obsessing and overanalysing Luz,hunter, amity,Eda or belos you know actually good characters here I am obsessed with the 4ft tall pathetic sad child endangering gremlin who is unintentionally one of the funniest written villains in any peace of media I’ve ever seen I fucking love this character so much yes I know I’m probably the only one who thinks this shut up I’ve written way too much and should just stop now.

Of the owl house cast, who do you think would and wouldn't tolerate a polyamorous partner?
Having a Polyamorous Partner | The Owl House Cast
Tumblr media
thanks for the question anon!
i laid out my thoughts below - this list includes all of the characters i write for as organised alphabetically
note : these are only my headcanons so feel free to interpret otherwise or let me know your thoughts on the topic - i’d love to hear them!
[i’m also polyamorous so please don’t take this as an attack on poly people - this is just what vibe i get from each character]
Adrian Graye Vernworth
would be neutral ; would be alright with casual non-monogamy on your part and his, but probably wouldn’t be the happiest about having any metamours or thirds in your relationship - but could be convinced.
Alador Blight
would be fine with a polyamorous partner ; i feel like alador is probably monogamous but would be fine with you having other relationships - just don’t expect to have a shared third with him, he’s committed to you not someone else.
Amity Blight
would be fine with a polyamorous partner ; this would probably be a case of you being part of a triad with her and luz, so expect to have her as a metamour at least - she’d probably be okay with you branching out beyond that but prefers a closed poly relationship over anything else.
Boscha
wouldn’t be okay with having an open relationship ; is probably fine with a closed unit and having a metamour or two (though she probably wouldn’t play nice with them), but prefers monogamy for the most part - would only consider a poly dynamic if she really liked you.
Collector
would be perfectly fine with a polyamorous partner ; doesn’t expect you to be 100% romantically committed to them and doesn’t mind having any metamours so long as they can get along (and play with them) - just let them know what you want and they’ll accommodate you.
Darius Deamonne
neutral on the topic ; darius seems like someone who would be comfortable in a monogamous or polyamorous dynamic, so having a poly partner wouldn’t be much of an issue for him so long as everyone cleans up after themselves that is - 50/50 whether he’d have any other partners, though.
Edalyn Clawthorne
would tolerate a polyamorous relationship ; you’d probably end up being metamours with raine anyway if you’re with eda as they’re kind of a package deal, so she’d be more than up for dating a poly person.
Edric Blight
would be fine with a polyamorous partner ; it would take an adjustment period for him to get used to the dynamic, but ed would definitely branch out himself and have other relationships and casual flings of his own volition - may not reach out to his metamours, it depends on whether they’d ever actually meet in person.
Emira Blight
would accept a polyamorous partner ; em may very well have a slight polyamorous-lean to her and would comfortably settle into a closed triad dynamic, but would also accept a complete open relationship if that was what you wanted (though would probably only have one serious relationship outside of yours) - would probably make an effort with metamours to make things easier for you.
Hunter
confused but mostly supportive ; hunter grew up completely isolated from relationship things, so he probably wouldn’t give polyamory much thought until it was actively brought up - and even then, he’d likely be okay with you branching out but likely wouldn’t do very much himself (not just because he’s hopeless when it comes to flirting)
Lilith Clawthorne
happy to have a polyamorous partner ; just wants to see you happy, so while she’ll remain relatively monogamous she’s also happy to meet and get to know her metamours and help you plan things with them (especially if they’re as excited about the deadwardian era as she is).
Luz Noceda
probably also polyamorous herself ; you can’t be with luz without being somewhat close with amity as well, so having a poly partner would be ideal for luz - she’d also be the type to reach out to and befriend her metamours.
Mattholomule
wouldn’t want a polyamorous relationship ; mattholomule probably wouldn’t be the happiest with sharing a lover with others or having other partners at all - so being with a poly person either wouldn’t happen at all or would only happen if he was very very interested in the person and willing to accept that part of them.
Odalia Blight
wouldn’t particularly care ; isn’t the most committed person romantically and wouldn’t care if you had other relationships so long as she was your nesting/anchor partner - but she won’t make nice with her metamours unless it would benefit you both.
Philip Wittebane / Emperor Belos
wouldn’t tolerate a polyamorous relationship ; this man is a puritan christian so he would probably be limited to strict monogamy, potentially being incredibly possessive over his partner - so polyamory is off the table with him.
Raine Whispers
would tolerate a polyamorous relationship ; raine is one of the most supportive people ever and would probably lean towards a closed poly relationship with eda and any metamours they’d have through you - so bring it up and they’d be open.
Steve
neutral on the idea ; steve is probably completely monogamous but wouldn’t expect you to change yourself for him - would also probably reach out to his metamours to plan surprises and gifts for you and things like that (pretty chill).
Terra Snapdragon
neutral on the topic ; wouldn’t mind you being polyamorous/having others but isn’t romantically poly herself - might have a few flings here and there but don’t expect to have metamours on her end.
Willow Park
neutral on the topic ; whilst i feel like willow is probably more monogamous-leaning, she likely wouldn’t be too bothered about having a poly partner and may even be happy to help you plan dates or get to know your other partners to some extent (would bring plants as a peace offering).

I'm just gonna say this because I am SO done with seeing this shit.
As a trans, enby, demisexual lesbian, I am fucking sick of seeing people hate on huntlow because its "straight"
Like that is such a dumb fucking reason to hate on a perfectly healthy ship. Who cares if its queer or not? It's still a wonderful written ship. And it might not even be straight!
Like I said I'm literally queer myself and I far prefer huntlow over the two cannon queer ships. I don't prefer huntlow because its not queer, and I dont prefer lumity or raeda because they are queer. By that logic every queer person would have to prefer every queer ship in existence over a straight ship, even if the queer ship's rep is done poorly or is straight up offensive. That logic just makes no fucking sense. I've seen people call huntlow shippers queerphobic for preferring huntlow over the cannon queer ships. NEWS FLASH: MANY HUNTLOW SHIPPERS ARE QUEER THEMSELVES. (Including me!)
I prefer huntlow over Lumity and Raeda simply because I think its written the best out of the 3 and simply because Hunter and Willow are my favorite two characters in the show. I just don't care about Eda, Raine, Luz, or Amity NEARLY as much as Hunter and Willow. I'm not saying I don't like these characters or lumity or raeda, I'm just indifferent about them. I fully acknowledge just how well written and important these ships are to queer rep and queer history, and there is literally nothing wrong with them. These ships and characters just don't do it for me the same way Huntlow does. You can just not care about a ship and not have to morally justify your reasoning. I don't care about Lumity or Raeda, yet do you see me trying to aruge those ships are morally wrong? No. You don't. There is literally nothing morally wrong with them. Same thing applies to huntlow. There is literally nothing morally wrong with Huntlow, yet I constantly see people pull shit out of their ass to try and morally justify their reasoning to hate huntlow.
News Flash: You can hate something and not have to morally justify why.
Plus, Huntlow is still amazing rep. It's not queer rep, sure, but we already got two MONUMENTAL queer ships in TOH that have literally made history. Huntlow has a different kind of rep, as it's the best plus sized ship rep I've ever seen. How many times does a boy described as sickly and scrawny fall in love with a plus-sized girl? And how many times does that happen where the plus-sized character doesn't try and diet or gets a "makeover" and loses weight so their love interest will love them more? This kind of rep is so unheard of and it is INCREDIBLY important, especially in a kid's show. I have heard countless stories of plus sized young kids (and adults!) talking about how much this kind of rep means to them. I heard from a person who was told that they would never find love because of their weight, find extreme comfort with huntlow's plus sized rep. This ship could literally save lives with this kind of rep. (Could prevent people from failing into eating disorders, or could help people recover). This rep is SO important for plus-sized people.
Also people who say huntlow gets more attention then Lumity or raeda, I seriously DO NOT know what rock you're living under. Lumity and Raeda are pretty much universally accepted in the fandom as the top 2 ships, while Huntlow has pretty much remained controversial from the very beginning. Sure, now the majority of the fandom supports huntlow, but back in the ASIAS days it was fucking brutal. (I literally almost quit shipping it because of the blacklash on my first huntlow post). And even now, despite it being a minority, there is still a good chunk of people in the fandom who are huntlow antis. Huntlow is NOT getting more attention then Radea or Lumity just because its straight. If anything, Radea and Lumity are MUCH more popular in the fandom then huntlow. Like are you fucking kidding me with this???
Plus we don't even know if this is truly straight! For all we know Hunter or Willow could be bi, pan, omni. It could just be a straight passing relationship, and people aren't less queer for being in straight passing relationships!
So yeah. Go find a legitimate reason to hate on a ship.

to elaborate on the actor au- sorry-
like small snippet of the owl house characters + y/n behind the scenes? as if they were shooting the entire show, and doing interviews and such about the owl house??
Tumblr media
Requested on Tumblr
A/n: Eugh I'm not that happy with this but this is the best it's going to be. Also, I didn't change the character's names. Everyone is human but it would be odd to have them refer to themselves in the 3rd person
Recently you and your friend, Luz had been selected to play in a new show "The Owl House." Which was pretty exciting for both of you. You meant while working on a project around a year ago. But neither of you have been in any of the same projects since.
The first day of filming was surely an experience. It was the first highly fantasy-themed show you were on. But it was honestly a lot of fun! Amity was A LOT nicer off set. Honestly you tell this was going to be one of the best shows to act in.
------------------------------------Time skip to after (filming) the final---------------------------------------------
Listen, you've heard of actors getting attached to their characters. Hell, You've become attached to a few of yours! But never to this degree. You just got done filming the final. You knew a lot of what was going to happen. You were a secondary main character! But god did it hit so much harder to have it acted out! Kinda...
It hit so much harder post editing. You, Luz, Eda, and The Collector, couldn't help during Luz's death. It's kinda hard to be taken seriously when you're in the air wearing a green full bodysuit. Luz didn't really seem to be in the know for much of the final. She seemed really shocked when she learned of her death. Once the hilarity of the situation wore off Luz's performance was tear jerking.
Also the rest of the hex squad had very different opinions being somewhat whatcast to the side for the episode. Amity was upset despite being the main character's girlfriend having a minor role. Hunter on the other hand seemed relieved to just have a break. After around a week you and your fellow actors got an interview. But we'll be focusing on your friends here.
What were the hardest scenes to act in? Luz: Scenes with Hooty aren't hard in the traditional sense. But have you ever had to talk to people holding up a giant paper mache bird and keep a straight face?
Eda: Having to do magic in earlier seasons wasn't fun. You think it's going to be easy to just move your hands in a big circle! But no, the circle was too big! Listen as sad as it was, I'm happy I lost my magic.
Collector: That stupid star. Flying on what I think was weirdly strong cardboard was not comforting. Also any scenes that I had to "Fly" in were weird.
Amity: The puppet scene Staying completely still sounds easy. But you move a lot more than you realize.
Hunter: The possessed scene, do I need to say more?
For Eda, Collector and Hunter, how long does getting ready to look like the character take?
Eda: Wasn't that hard early on just throw on some white body paint and contacts. By the end it wasn't much different, just one different contact and special effects on my arm.
Collector: Face paint doesn't take that long. Though making the freckles can be a bit of a chore.
Hunter: The one scar was already annoying having to make sure it was in the same spot and all. But having six more? Eugh.
And lastly how do you feel about how the fandom feels about your character?
Luz: It's nice she's so well liked. But I wish people would stop making her oblivious and stupid! She's honestly really smart! But once you don't realize your past rival has a crush on you, you're suddenly the dumbest person alive.
Eda: You are all weird but not wrong and that's all I'm saying.
Collector: It was cool to become a fan favorite even when I was only speaking and not on screen. It is kinda funny seeing how many people thought I was actually evil-evil though.
Amity: Not much to say, the fans are cool, and the people who aren't seem to be pretty civil.
Hunter: A lot of you are cool! You also seem to reduce me to my trauma, but still cool.
A/n: I made this at 2am. I hope this was okay at least.

THE OWL HOUSE SEASON 2 HAS CAPTIVATED ME, so here are my reactions/thoughts to episodes 18 and 19
Episode 18: FINALLY MORE GUS TALK!!!! We get so much information about all the other characters I WAS BEGINNING TO THINK MY GUY GUS WAS BEING NEGLECTED!!
His power is so cool, I need more people to be as excited about illusionist magic as me and Gus are! HE LITERALLY CHANGED THE WHOLE SCHOOL AND TRICKED THE HEAD OF ILLUSIONIST COVEN!
Speaking of, the head of the Illusionist Coven being just some wanna be director is fucking hilarious, he is a snob and I hate him with a passion but I want to laugh at him, so much
Gus literally saving all the students at the school too is being SEVERELY looked over right now, like DUDE HE LITERALLY SAVED ALL OF YOU!!!!
All the guards this episode had me in stiches!!! I WANT MORE GUARDS BEING FUNNY IDIOTS!! ESPECIALLY SEVERINE, god, someone get Severine some therapy, like SLAYYY GO BACK TO THE TINY CAT COVEN! GET SOME SELF ESTEEM BACK!
Obviously, i cannot talk about this episode WITHOUT talking about our boy, Hunter.... who was living in the school stage. Listen, I won't judge the guy, he is homeless, his whole life has been thrown upside down, I feel for the guy it was just a surprise! (/lh) ANYWAY, I LOVED THE GUS AND HUNTER FRIENDSHIP GROWTH! From the sharing of the breathing thing (TWICE!!!) and the comforting each other AMAZING
Amity and Willow learning how to be friends again was also an amazing plot line, I love to see how their friendship will expand
Episode 19: THE WEIRD DREAM THING??? AND KING BEING CONNECTED TO THE COLLECTOR?!? Listen, I still don't fully understand who the collector is BUT THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THEY HAVE APPEARED IN ONE OF THE GANG'S DREAMS! Yeah, I haven't forgot about it being in Eda's dream too! I am very confused, it seems lonely, but evil, but also just a chaotic vibe, I am conflicted
POOR KING! He literally just found out traumatising news and THEN people keep treating him differently now?? I spent the whole start of the episode wanting to just hold King and keep him safe from everyone, HE IS JUST A LITTLE GUY!!! HE IS JUST A BABY!!!
BUT! Steve to save the day. I am now a Steve Stan. I am a Steve fangirl. If Steve has 1 fan, its me, if Steve has 0 fans, I am dead. BRING BACK STEVE!!!! I adore Steve, with every essence of my being, HE WAS ACTING LIKE KING WAS FAMILY AND- AHHH, best friends your honour, they are best friends
FUCKKK The Eda and Raine and Luz angst was a plotline I was NOT ready for after the absolute fluff that was King and Steve helping people and vibing. SOMEONE GET MY PAL RAINE OUT OF THERE!!! Plant coven girl is literally obsessed with them, tf
Eda just wanting to save the kids, to protect Luz and King- I will admit, it hit me in my feels, Eda still treating King as a kid (AS HE SHOULD BE) and Luz and wanting them both away from danger AHHHHHHH
Luz bestie, I love you, but PLEASE EDA WAS RIGHT
HOWEVER HARPY EDA CAMEO!!! RAHHHHHH, I am still obsessed with it, we need more of Harpy Eda in this show.
AND FINALLY, THE ALLIES!!!! GOD. I am obsessed DARIUS I KNEW I COULD TRUST YOU!!! I don't know if I posted, but I REALLY liked Darius but knew (well, thought) he was evil, BUT NO I CAN NOW FINALLY LOVE HIM! AND EBERWOLF! Didn't forget him (did just have to search his name tho)
OH AND! The Palisman!!! I was going to mention this as I hadn't been mentioned in a while, BUT CARING FAMILY BONDING BETWEEN EDA, LUZ AND KING!!! I fucking love found family. Can you tell!!#
IN OTHER EXCITING NEWS! I am about to watch the season 2 finale episodes! No idea what to expect, but I am literally addicted so will take anything, i am sad I am so close to finishing it though, as Season 3 has less episodes
BUT it means I can finally interact with the fandom, etc etc
Thank you to all following my journey watching the series for the first time

Requests are open!
I don't know if people want me to write their ideas for them but I'd be more than happy to do that so if you have any idea or a prompt you would like me to write with a character you like, you just have to send it to me!
I write fluff, agnst but only with happy ending (I'm soft okay ;w; ) and smut (although not a lot). There is not much i wouldn't write but if I don't feel comfortable with it or don't feel I have enough skills to do it, I won't write it.
I only write 'x reader' fanfictions and write for any gender/sexuality, you just have to tell me what you want. If you don't specify a gender, my default is Gender Neutral/ Non-Binary.
I also tend to not write cross-overs but if I really like the idea, maybe I will do it. (Really depends tho)
Who I write for:

I’m in the ranting mood, these are the owl house characters I feel like are neurodivergent 🤭 also I’m not reading over this so if nothing makes sense, oh well
Luz (autism/adhd) - She’s obviously heavily nd coded, I’m pretty sure Dana even confirmed it. There have been multiple instances where she has stimmed. To the neurotypical eye, they would probably go unnoticed or they would just think she’s being a childish/energetic teenager. For example:
Tumblr media
That is very clearly her stimming. It’s not the first time she has done that either. Luz has stimmed many times throughout the show. Another thing that shows that she is nd is her interest for “the good witch azura” (same for amity but I’ll talk about that later). In the newest episode, “thanks to them”, you can see Luz’s interest grow over at least a few years. Most people don’t have an interest that lasts them years.. she decorated her whole room with things from her interest and she mentioned how she can read and write witchtongue in five different dialects. If that doesn’t scream ‘special interest’ to you, I don’t know what will. Luz is the character almost everyone knows about her neurodivergency so I’ll move onto the rest..
Amity (autism) - Surprisingly I haven’t seen that many people agree with this?? To me, amity is very clearly autistic. She stims as well but it’s not as noticeable as it is with luz. She fidgets with my clothes or her hands a lot and that’s an example of tactile stimming. For exampleeee:
Tumblr media
You can see her rubbing her hands in this, it’s possibly a way she’s self regulating because of the situation she’s in. Moving on, just like luz, “the good witch azura” is most likely her special interest. Neurodivergent people are known to attract people and the fact that they have the same interests is just a huge give away. And the way that they dressed up as azura and Hecate for Halloween just shows how they try bring their interests into everything. Amity also doesn’t understand social cues or jokes! When luz told her “I’m picking up what you’re putting down”, amity responded with “I’m not putting anything down”. She didn’t understand the figure of speech and took it literally, that’s a big thing that autistic people do.
Hunter (autism/adhd) - I’m gonna start with things from the newest episode. Everyone knows that wolves have got to be his special interest. It’s incredibly obvious. The way his eyes lit up when he spoke about them just shows how passionate he is about that topic. This part is more of a headcanon but I like to think that the shirt he made brings comfort to him and that’s why he continued to wear it. Anyway, just like amity, Hunter both fidgets with his hands. For example:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s not that obvious but once again, this is considered tactile stimming. He also doesn’t understand social cues. Like when willow spoke about his “sick sky skills” then he proceeded to touch his forehead and say he didn’t feel sick. I’ve seen people say that it’s probably because he was sheltered in the emperors coven but I disagree, he just took it literally because of his autism :/ I also think that wild magic is a special interest for him.
I’m losing motivation so I’m just going to list the other characters I see as neurodivergent:
Eda - adhd Lilith - autism Edric - autism/adhd Alador - autism King - autism Collector - autism Gus - autism/adhd Willow - autism Raine - autism Camilla - autism Wittebane brothers - autism

Luz Noceda: A Journey about Growth and Understanding
Luz Noceda, is one of the Main Characters of The Owl House. and She's my TOP Favorite and Comfort Character. And seeing The Owl House ever since Season 1 in the Episode "Covention" ever sine then, it was truly an INCREDIBLE Journey to watch and how much She has come through. Fun Fact! I started watching The Owl House since episode "Covention" that was technically my first Episode and the one that introduced Me to The Owl House. Even then though, "A Lying Witch and Warden" does an INCREDIBLE Work and Storytelling in what Luz will be about and how Her story through on will be about. And I want to talk so much about that since the very beginning alongside many more moments. I will probably split this into many parts but I will gladly talk more about that and have a more depth analysis into those parts too alongside more rambles. I'll do the same with Eda, King, a Look into Willow and Gus together, and them as separate characters, Hunter and the Golden Guard mask talk to it, Amity, Lumity OF COURSE, and Many more! Including a look of Belos being a Perfect Villain. But for now! Let's-a Go for the Great talk of Luz Noceda!
Tumblr media
Sooooo, Lets start with the very first episode of course! "A Lying Witch and Warden" where Luz is introduced. The very first scene is basically Her retell or summary of Her Book Report which is "The Good Witch Azura!" all while holding the Azura figurine, and a little Snake. All while being in the Principal Office. From the scene presented alone, You can tell a lot from Her character. She was assigned to do a Book Report and from what I am going to assume is that said report was per say Free style. Any Book is fair and square! And by such, She decided to go with Her Favorite book, and also have a very creative and diverse kind of ideas. And yet, it seems that She was called into the Principal Office due to said report and its because in how much She wanted to showcase about what Good Witch Azura is all about in a rather very uniqeu way BUT! Also quite dangerous. One thing that I found interesting is how this could be presented into a Great Fair view of this scene. One would say or think, "That wasn't fair to Luz. She wanted to express more about the Good Witch Azura" but here is the Amazing kicker. Bringing a bunch of Snakes with no way of control per say, alongside Fireworks and more backup snakes is honestly so dangerous and some students were seen running around with it. I'm going to assume those are non-poisonous snakes per say.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Why am I saying all of this? Because this introductory scene of this First Episode is a GREAT Example of "Show, Don't tell." From that Introduction of the Story alone, We are introduced to Our Main Character and what Luz is about and what will be about throughout the Journey and already is quite GREAT looking back at it. After all, plenty of People probably wanted a moment or a time to shine and talk about what They love and even perhaps gain friendships or something more throughout that Amazing talk. Already, a Great relatable and Connection to the Audience. Looking and Watching this episode for the First time, I could feel that. It hit close home to Me, I wanted to talk about Super Mario whenever I had the chance on to do it in School, and present it by doing some roleplays of Mario or taking His Character like saying Iconic lines of Him. Alongside not only showcasing a great Connection, it ALSO! Shows flaws in Luz's character and a Flaw We see throughout the Story BUT! Also slowly growing out of it. The look of Fantasy and Escapism. We all have been there per say. We wanted to escape from any problem or just go where everythign that are like the obstacles or bad or rough moments of life just don't be there per say. Its a very Valid thought, sometimes wanting a break from the hardships of life is very valid, but there has to also be a balance. To know when is too much, and that is perfectly represented in the moment that Camila says that to Luz. That Her not knowing well where is the line between Fantasy and real life can hinder You, and We see that come into play for "Yesterday's Lie." Camila all what She wanted was Luz to get Friends, when Vee (at that time taking Luz's place) was throwing everything that Luz made and liked, She felt sad, one would say that even bad at seeing that because maybe for Her in that moment, Summer Camp made "Luz" just, not like anmore what made Her happy. Its also a Great Showcase of Camila's character and how much of a Great Mother She is, which I'll talk about in the future.
Luz as a Character, She has an Incredible Relatable Character, motivations and Moments and as well making Her a Flaw Character that We slowly see and grow as the Story progress. A Great showcase is in the Next episode, "Witches before Wizards" where Luz wanted SO Much that the Boiling Isles and everything that has happened is exactly like Her Books, The Good Witch Azura.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
She wanted to believe that She needed to be a chosen One and be special through a prophecy. Already showcasing again that She's getting too much into Her Fantasy and despite ironically being in a fantasy world from Her perspective, Its still Reality and Life. She is taking for granted the situation She was when She said how She believes She's not in the right place, where I believe that landing with Eda and staying in The Owl House was probably the Best case scenario for her to end up with in the Boiling Isles. After all, there would've been worse options, like running around aimlessly trying to fight for survival and such, or ending up in the Confronatorium. The episode "Witches before Wizards" is already a GREAT Step into Luz's character to realize that not everything is like or should be on how She wants to, and She realizes that and wants to work with it to earn Her Staff, and the best part? We see that through the following episodes, slowly learning more and more about Her looking at well, the outlook of what Life and Reality can be through the Boiling Isles even if its a Magical World as she is from the Human Realm.
I also want to add That Luz has every right as well to Say what She thought and such, and That is valid since Not everything is roses and such, But Even Then there are better ways to express it and by such is Why Luz Felt like there must have been a mistake. And a Reason Why Adegast used That to The advantage on tricking Her.
Tumblr media
Its truly AMAZING and it all comes into Great payoffs in Season 2 and comes FULL Circle for Season 3. What is to take about this? That Luz knows that Life is Hard? Well, Yes. But in a sense, She also comes to the realization that Life can be rough, but also very Beautiful and have its Incredible Moments of Magic. Its such a GREAT Pay off in this moment of "Thanks to Them" when She realizes, that She can do Magic in the Human Realm. The Magic that She has been learning, has stuck with Her and its such a Beautiful message overall.
Which brings Me with the Next part of this Little ramble. And that is about Her escapism. The saying of "I miss Luz when She was happier in Season 1" its not a Good look at all. One thing in why I ABSOLUTELY ADORE and believe that The Owl House's writing is quite PEAK is due to how GREAT and Rewarding is rewatching hte Ol' episodes after the GREAT Context and detail of the Future episodes. The episode "Reaching Out" truly is a GREAT and SO BEAUTIFUL episode that conveys it and MORE with "For the Future" where We learn more about Luz's backstory. To learn about Her Dad passing away away and the struggles She went through and the Grief too. I would even say that even before Season 1, Luz was still healing and Griefing for Her Dad. Her Dad is why She loves The Good Witch Azura. Its exactly why The Good Witch Azura means so much to Luz as well. Through the story that the book presents, but also because its like a Last Gift and what reminds Her of Her Dad. Its truly beautiful and yet tragic due to how Luz was seen as a Weirdo even then. Its an incredible look because even through it, Camila wanted to so much protect Her from any hurt to which is something that is INCREDIBLE to see when Camila realizes by Herself that She didn't need to protect Luz from, well, as the moment beautifully presents, Luz being Herself in fear that the world will treat Her badly.
Which is where "Yesterday's Lie" episode comes into another showcase of context after "Reaching Out" and is So tragic because Luz wanted to escape that. She was scared to change by going into the Summer Camp and wanted to escape far into that, which is why Luz say that. She say that it was Never Camila, it was never Her, because Luz knows that Her Mom loves Her and supports Her, but the fear of what the World can do to change Her is probably something She didn't want to face.
"Enchanting Grom Fright" with the Fears in Grom, its not because She was scared of Her mom or coming to face the Truth, but rather Her Fear of thinking or making Her mom think that She did something wrong,, She doesn't want to feel like it was a burden since Luz is aware that Her mom has Her hands full as well. These moments in life can be so much rough, and through that Fear, We all want to just have a safe space or a space where We don't have to worry about all of that.
Tumblr media
However, just as that hurt is present, "Reaching Out" also beautifully represents that there are beautiful moments. After seeing Luz not having a Good time and trying to not even be honest, to finally release all that, and be honest and show Her vulnerable side to Amity even while still trying to keep up a smile, Amity, just shows nothing more than just Pure Love and Support. Even through the fiasco of what was the Bonesborough Brawl, Amity helped Her get those flowers and honor Her Dad's passing away anniversary. Again, it was one of the lowest moments for Luz, and despite it all, She still got to see the Beauty of it, that Softness and Calm that can be even before or after the Storm. I am so going to make an even more depth Ramble about "Reaching Out" even if it makes Me cry a lot, Gosh, I love so much this Show and THE AMAZING relationship that is Lumity.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Like said before, Life can be rough and there will be bad moments, but just like there are bad and terrible moments, There are MUCH SO INCREDIBLE And Beautiful moments. Which We see that being the GREAT Story into play with Season 3. A Younger Luz got to experience the beautiful moments even after Her Dad's passing away and its all thanks to Him as well and the Unconditional support from Her Mom too. Its a Great look to take in, that through the badm there will always be Good and Great breaks from it and that truly even if moments are rough and bad, its okay to feel it and feel sad, but know that there will be great and Awesome Moments too that will follow. And its something, that is SO Beautifully represent in Stringybean, with Luz feeling understood and Camila of course, embracing that She should also not hide Herself at all, and if She wants to be a Nerd then Go ALL the more for it!
Tumblr media
After all, despite through it all, despite if You're feeling like a Weirdo, or an Outcast, or going through somethign rough... Us Weirdos will always stick together.

Dear TOH Fandom,
Pretty soon, I'm gonna be making my first multi-chap for TOH on Ao3 (GenericNam is my username there too), but I can't decide which fiction to decide on between my Ideas. So. I've decided to leave the choice in YOUR incredibly responsible hands (sarcasm).
Propaganda under the cut:
All fics would be Luz centric, or at least have her as one of the main characters, because she is my hyperfixation character. I will likely write all of them eventually, but this is to see which will be most popular.
1. Luz and Eda Swap AU: Luz is a witch and Eda is a human; they don't swap ages though, so Eda still takes on the role of sassy grandma and Luz is still the innocent happy-go-lucky delinquent. Luz is the Snake Lady instead of the Owl Lady. Eda wants to learn magic for personal reasons, and if she accidentally adopts several traumatized witches and demons along the way? Why not? Luz and Eda are both the main characters. It would have some series rewrite stuff about it, but there would be a lot of canon divergence because of the characters different goals. Would probably be pretty long.
2. Luz Palisman AU: Luz dies in a freak accident at some point before the Hexsquad get their palismans. Through some handwavy magic that can be explained in the fic, Luz becomes Amity's cat palisman, instead of Ghost. But anytime she tries to tell Amity who she is, some external force stops her. Luz has to balance figuring out how to return herself to being human, while also trying to help Amity stay afloat. Amity herself is having a lot of trouble, her parents don't cut her any slack, even while grieving Luz, and things just keep going downhill for her; good thing she at least has her palisman to comfort her. Luz and Amity are the main characters. Would be probably mid length.
3. Cliche Captured By Belos AU: Belos uses the memory tweezers in order to edit Luz's memories and gaslight her into working for him. Just one small problem… Luz is still a smol bean who loves making friends, regardless of how hard Belos tries making her hate witches. Luz is the main character, but Belos, Eda, and the Hexsquad all play major roles. Would probably be the shortest of the three options.

In the description are timestamps for when the tierlist properly starts, when I swap seasons and a quick jump to skip the break I took between S1 and 2. Shout out to D-Man in my Discord for being my cohost for this as it helped a lot with making sure I wasn’t getting too into my own head. For those who want to see the final verdict though:
Tumblr media
And now for some analysis of the picks for those who want the probably bigger ticket episodes on the list and don’t want to have to scrub through a 5 hour video: NOTABLE ODDITIES: Yesterday’s Lie at D: With how I’ve praised Vee and talked about how good Yesterday’s Lie is at its own goals is actually a problem for the show overall, why is it that when trying to mostly judge the episodes on their own merits, it’s in D? Well... I explained on stream that if they cut off Luz and Camila’s conversation even fifteen seconds earlier, have the guilt trip and not the promise, the episode would easily be in S tier. Objectively I think the episode is S tier. However... This is a subjective list and I could do an entire blog as to why the promise made at the end of it LOOKS like a good cliffhanger... But if you ask questions about how it can be resolved, it is just awful. And the show knew this as it doesn’t even come up for why Luz wants to stay in the human realm. They made an entirely different, far stupider, reason for it. But it doesn’t change that me thinking about the promise made me actively dread S2B because I could not see the promise leading to anything good but it’s too big and dramatic to just ignore, even though the show effectively does ignore it. Grom at A instead of S: I still can’t fully explain this one. It’s honestly as much where my gut demanded it be as much as my mind but it is absolutely the gatekeeper for S because it deserves the rep it has. Honestly, I think it’s THE episode where my shifting opinions and analysis of the show hurts it the most because I just can’t be comfortable with the fact that Luz takes Amity’s place WAY more to prove Eda wrong and do a cool thing than specifically because Amity is afraid. Amity is more an excuse in this episode which is a similar problem to Cloud on the Horizon (which I know is likely surprising not to be in F tier but it doesn’t break any continuity or the like and at least tries to give payoff to things which I can’t always say about others) since they’re both VERY important to Lumity but Lumity doesn’t feel important to them if that makes any sense and I just can’t shake that with Grom. S TIER EXPLANATIONS: A Lying Witch and a Warden: It’s a VERY good pilot. If it were just another episode of the show, it’d probably be a high A but it might still be an S just because the ideas are so much fun and so interesting in them and presented with a lot of charm and heart that I wish was in more of the series. As an introduction though, regardless of what the show will actually be like, it’s absolutely amazing. It gets across the core (for S1) of these characters incredibly well, it shows a world that is genuinely interesting and still manages a fun adventure on top of that without feeling rushed or haphazard. It is just something I marvel at and easily deserves its spot. Lost in Language: I’ve talked about this being my favorite episode and that has not changed. It utilizes the age of the characters well, it has fun magic, it actually has the line “This isn’t what it looks like” and it’s just bluntly true, it has great comedy, a lot of cheer and the final threat of the bookmaker is TERRIFYING but also heartbreaking and actually holds WAY more threat than most other villains in the series. It is exactly what I want out of a fantasy kid’s show if you were to ask me. Also while the B plot isn’t anything special, it is fun and so it doesn’t drag down the episode. Agony of a Witch: I was honestly surprised when my first instinct was to put this or Young Blood, Old Souls in S tier. I think it’s because S1′s story with Eda and Lilith is genuinely REALLY good and this is the payoff to that and boy what a payoff it is. However, it’s much more paid off in this episode and Young Blood, Old Souls suffers from the fact that a finale is still supposed to setup the next season and... We get one episode dealing with the new status of the curse and Belos isn’t touched on properly again until S2B because fuck you. It’s not enough to drag episode down too far but it definitely solidified that my good will towards the finale is a lot more from Agony. F TIER EXPLANQATIONS: Escaping Expulsion: Murders two of its more interesting elements in plotlines that not only aren’t that fun but also barely include, if included at all, the main character that these elements are connected to. The biggest plus is that Odalia is a lot of fun as a villain but that is part of also how Amity’s potential was murdered so yeah, no. Otherwise, it’s very bog standard with a completely out of character montage from Bump and just isn’t interesting from a character perspective because everything is too easy. Elsewhere Elsewhen: Remove Luz, Eda and Lilith being stupid as rocks and the murdering of any potential that Belos or the Isles had to be interesting and you have why Really Small Problems ALMOST made F tier. This is just a boring as fuck episode. The jokes aren’t good, everyone’s an idiot, nothing is accomplished, what is is dumb and not going to pay off well in the long run and I just end wishing I’d done literally anything else with my time. It’s barely even interesting to talk about despite being a time travel episode because the time travel is so pointless and it’s not exploring the past of the Isles, it’s about being the next person Philip conned out of THOUSANDS he probably did over the years and Philip is NO FUN. Dell is the ONLY good part of this episode but that’s like two minutes at best and goes nowhere in the grander scheme of things and was definitely not worth comic relief Eda which is always the WORST because Eda is at her funniest when you’re laughing with her, not at her. Sport in a Storm: This one surprised me but it comes down to Willow’s talk with Hunter feeling patronizing because “I was called half a witch because I literally was using the wrong type of magic and now am the DEMI GOD OF PLANTS” does exactly parallel respectfully with “I was born without magic and therefore am genuinely seen as potentially of this society.” Not only that but even a moral as simple as ‘don’t judge by its cover’ is done so poorly with the fact that Hunter had EVERY reason to write off all those characters and the turn around for why they’re actually impressive is mostly bullshit. That plus the fact that the Lumity stuff is fine at best and the EC is murdered in relevancy and interest just makes this an absolutely terrible episode for me because I care about no one, what is happening is actively elements worse and it really is disrespectful to any disability allegory with Hunter. Reaching Out: This is still the worst episode in the series for me. I got a headache and cut it short because I got so mad talking about it. NOTHING functions in this episode though. It can’t even do fun tournament fights because it has no interest in that. It has no interest in having Amity and Luz properly interact, something that is just a running fact about Lumity once they’re together. The final talk with Luz makes Amity’s feelings feel like bullshit because they’re never actually addressed and Amity such little of a grudge that she doesn’t even ask for an apology. She’s entirely focused on Luz and Luz’s pain so why did you run away except for a shot of the Grom tree that doesn’t actually reflect the status of your relationship because Luz could go literally and Amity would not leave her. The ONLY saving grace of the episode is a mostly boring B plot that has good emotions but has the glaring problem that Amity ditching tryouts does of “BEING A WILD WITCH IS FUCKING ILLEGAL!” I could literally go scene by scene with this episode for why the concepts are good but then just left to rot in the gutter, and the fact that the concept for this episode is so good that it makes me say, and I NEVER say this, I could have written it better, is unforgivable for me personally. Thanks to Them: I had initially planned to put this in D because I’m always told there’s a lot of fanservice and it seems like it’s at least trying to do important things even if it’s not doing them well but... I’m sorry. Amity becoming comic relief annoys me, Luz is at her ABSOLUTE WORST as a character, period, for this episode to where her decision in this episode is something I bring up constantly because its character assassination, Belos being alive is infuriating period and they get an alright fight scene out of it but very little substantially else, it’s the entire reason why so many people are pissed that Evelyn and Caleb didn’t come back in the finale because of a very half assed attempt to go “Look, we have a sympathetic villain, we swear!” It’s also one of the few episode where the little I did watch actually made me go “I’m not crazy... This just looks bad and cheap animation wise, right?” Especially the fucking hay ride which should have been hard to fuck up because it’s a not exactly a new or complex concept. For the Future: If Thanks to Them got brownie points for trying to do important things but doing them badly, For the Future gets slaughtered for the fact in a three episode season, one episode feels like filler. Not even fun filler that’s exuberant or interesting or dealing with characters who have been treated as properly relevant to the show in over a season. It’s just filler. And I know Willow stans mad at me for that but Willow has been a plot device for other characters her entire existence so why is her ONE properly about her episode in the entire series in SEASON FUCKING THREE. Other than that, Kikimora is a terrible villain and always has been so her being one of the final threats and not being an in show joke is just fucking awful and it also includes the end of Luz’s character which is done just... The worst. It doesn’t even track with the problem she was having. She blatantly ignored that part of her mother’s speech. It’s not character assassination like Thanks to Them but this whole episode admits how few characters are real characters in this show, that it never had the themes it claims it had and has no fucking clue what to do with its own story elements to make them interesting. And a small shout out to Watching and Dreaming that is probably mostly not in F tier because I didn’t want to put literally all of S3 in F tier and at the least the spectacle of the episode (much Hollow Mind which I have to respect the ambitions of even if the execution is ass) and the fanservice makes it a satisfactory ending for the show even if it’s a meaningless one. Would I have liked it? Almost certainly not but I didn’t watch S3 for a reason. I also want to mention a final bit that I added in the stream once I had the whole thing done: I think TOH is a series that is worse than the sum of its parts. Frankly, the only episode that probably would have been S tier would have been Lost in Language if I was judging in the grander context because so much goes nowhere, or terrible, that it really does damage the enjoyment I have of the show as whole. A perfect example is that Lilith and Eda interactions are GREAT in S1... But knowing Lilith’s fate will always taint those for me unless I manage to shove them out. Similarly goes for Lumity, to such an extent it still affected the ranking of Grom. Nonetheless, this is my list. If you want my opinion on the rest, buy the right- Sorry. How bizarre. I've seen FTF and I have many things to say, but the first one is who or what is the figure we see when Luz is in the portal. Many people have say that that is a Titan but... Is it possible?
Where is Alador? I don't remember anyone mentioning him (at least Emira and Ed are okey. Well, almost Okey hahaha).
When they go to the memory class (I don't know the name of it): they just leave Luz's memories there. I mean, wouldn't that be like so dangerous? We don't see in any point that they put them again into Luz's head, so I suppose that would play an important role in W&D (?). I think it would be awesome if we get to see Luz's memory lane (although it is kind of impossible, because, yk, time, plot...).
Also, Odalia deserved that, for being a b*tch hahaha.
Oh, and I loved how Camilla threw the bat after kissing it and splashing Kiki's face. That killed me HHAHAHA
I also wonder what happened with the owl beast when it saw the collector. I mean, it was supposed that Eda had controlled it, but no, and then we see in the credits an image of King and Eda out of control. But it also drags my attention that Lilith didn't get out of control when she was near to the collector.
Oh, and I didn't understand the whole scene in the memory class with Hunter, Willow and Gus. I mean, I didn't get it, like: Willow and Gus were trying to make Hunter more comfortable but they fucked it? Or what?
And now Lumity hehehe. I didn't like so much their relation in season 3 (well, in TtT we got to see them dancing in the rain and a whole PowerPoint presentation with photos of them, I can't complain), but in the episodes we didn't get to see so much of them (at least not a proper focus). For example, the cute scene of both talking about palismen in the owl house: it IS so cute, and Amity kisses Luz's head (awww), but then Luz just don't respond to it and it seems like she doesn't want it? It was so rude :'(
Well, and what do you think was that thing that Luz had to tell Amity just before they were interrupted by Kikimora?
Oh, and I also loved how Amity gets Luz out of the portal by the feet hahaha.
I also think that Stringbean likes, like a lot, Amity? I mean, if you see slowly that scene, you can see how the Palisman rubs softly against Amity's cheek. AND THAT IS SO F*CKING CUTE I'M GONNA CRY.
And the whole Boscha - Amity thing. Boscha was behaving like the obsessed -toxic-ex and that made me even laugh.
Overall, the episode was fun and good, although it felt a bit slow. Many say that is because it's not plot centered, but character centered (and, well, ofc it is, they managed to have like a thousand characters on-screen and develope or end their arcs in a proper way -> I mean, when I thought Amity's arc was over like since season 2 episode 2, now we get a whole vision of Amity's change when in detention pit).
And one last comment. Luz's palisman hatches when she is able to figure out what she really wanted (to be understood), but I think that wouldn't make much sense. Let me explain, for the character is absolutely something that would fit, because we've seen how Luz had struggled with the world in general. But for the palisman itself is sth like "?", Because we've seen that, for example, Amity's desire was to make her own path and that's something that takes a long way (I mean, it's not something that can be fulfilled in an instant), but Luz's desire is now fulfiled because her mother has finally understood her (at least that how Luz feels it). Idk if you get me.
There is a Lot going on here so I'm going to answer it all under a read-more :)
1). I mean, it's either a Titan or it's a Titan Trapper. It looks exactly like them, so I can only imagine they'll pop up again in the next episode.
2). I also think we'll see Alador in the next episode. I think he'll probably be okay, but maybe wounded in some regard. I'm honestly just assuming he's a puppet somewhere right now.
3). Yeah, I know what you mean, but honestly I think that's just a detail we'll have to forget about, unless it does somehow come up in the finale (which I doubt will be the case). It is dangerous to leave the photos alone like that, so... maybe after a certain amount of time they automatically disappear without harming the legitimate memories? Something like that.
4). Odalia's still going to be an issue in the finale, though. Mark my words.
5). Camila was PEAK in this episode. "Kikimiki" murdered me.
6). I don't think the Owl Beast likes The Collector at all, which would track, considering what we know of their experiences with one of them, though it wasn't necessarily this Collector. But Lilith's curse is honestly still more manageable than Eda's is, and I don't think she really has an Owl Beast inside her, just a bit of one, which is why she didn't lose it as well.
7). That scene was the culmination of Everyone's issues, but specifically Hunter's and Willow's. Willow was trying to help by showing him a picture of him being happy with Flapjack, Hunter was touched by the gesture and didn't know how to say it, Willow thought that meant she'd messed up, Gus blamed himself for not talking to Hunter earlier, and they just didn't communicate with each other. It's a really well-done scene and it's heartbreaking to watch.
8). I don't think it was rude of Luz, and Amity didn't either. She's hurting, she was damn-near suicidal in Thanks to Them, and Amity's being Peak GF by supporting her, no matter what. As for what she was going to tell her, it was going to be her decision to leave the Boiling Isles.
9). Episode didn't feel slow to me at all! Just different, obviously, and in a good way.
10). I disagree, actually. Sure, in the moment Luz does feel understood by her mother, but that's an eternal goal, especially if she continues on her path in being a witch (and she will). She's always going to be the odd one out whether she's in the Human or the Demon Realm, and now she knows what she can always work toward.
