AOT Season 4 The Final Chapters Thoughts:

I like how this part of Season 4 is Armin-centric. The first part was dedicated to Eren and then the second part was dedicated to Mikasa

Yall I lowkey forgot Armin gets kidnapped by the okapi titan

The cgi continues to improve for aot. However, you can tell MAPPA's budget went to jjk because of the amount of fanservice they are giving 😂

The Survey Corps vs past titans shifters fight was so good!!! I liked watching it more than reading it because you could see what happens in the action. Also the scene with Pieck running toward the Warhammer titan was hilarious

I like the detail of the gray people and the colored baby. The baby represents the future and it being colored represents the hope of getting through the Rumbling. I like how everything became colored once the titans stopped moving.

Levi finally killing Zeke was satisfying. Now Zeke can be reborn as Toji in jjk because we know stuff is going down there too lol

Can I just say that I love the aruani scenes? Like Annie immediately asks where's Armin but tries to play it off and Mikasa was not buying it! Then there was the other part where Annie saves Armin and AHHHH I loved it!! Her dad better be impressed if Annie got with Armin cause he is so cool

Okay that hallucigenia thing needed to go. We don't even know where it went after Eren died. We assume it died with him because everyone turned back to normal. Also, I guess every titan had a piece of hallucigenia in them, specifically in their spine that connects their CNS and their PNS. It turning others into titans was it's way to "multiply" and keep it alive

The eremika kiss was not as creepy as I remember in the manga. The lighting helped it a lot. I remember reading that part and questioning what was Isayama thinking when he wrote that

I like to think of Eren as Lelouch from Code Geass, except Lelouch lived to see the effects of what he did. Eren had no choice but to die after wiping out 80% of humanity.

On that thought, there was one part where Armin was like "we can't have conflict if we destroy the outside world." Well, we already saw at the beginning of S4 that is not the case. There will always be conflict in the world. We even see it today. Sure, Eren could have killed everyone, but you still have conflict within Paradis. We saw it already with the Jaegerists. Eren helped his friends have a peaceful life but that would end eventually once they passed.

I sobbed at the part with everyone reuniting. It was sweet in the manga, it was sweet now

I like the ending even if it is slightly different from the manga. Of course you get the 104 + Pieck coming to Paradis (Jean looking great as always lol), Mikasa seeing birb Eren, Onyakopon and Yelena (finally) helping out, Levi with the kids, and Falco/Gabi planting a tree to signify new beginnings

Now...my only complaint about this episode was the credits. WHY DID THEY MAKE IT SMALL??? i WANTED TO KNOW WHO MIKASA MARRIED!!!! I liked the detail with the other kid tho. The boy sees the tree with a hole and walks in. I think this is Isayama's way of showing that titans can return and Eren would be the new Ymir. I'm not too certain, but it would suck for Eren because he would not be free. Maybe the kid could be the new Ymir? Who knows? My question would be how would titans survive modern day. Obviously they would evolve, but can they survive modern technology. We may not use swords much anymore but there is nuclear technology.

(Edit: it is possible Mikasa married Jean based on what we see in the anime/manga. I feel like that's not a good ending for either one of them because a) Mikasa's heart belongs to Eren. It's like Rose from the Titanic. Basically, Mikasa won't love Jean or whoever she married fully. b) Jean seems to be busy conducting the peace talks with the others. Idk if he would have time for Mikasa unless they were both cool with it. c) I think it's just not a good ending for either of them. I felt bad for Mikasa throughout the whole episode and that as her ending is...idk...I would feel even bad for her)

I know Isayama is done with the series but i have questions I want answered!!! 😭 Still, I got into this fandom back in 2013 and it has been a good 10 years. I met a lot of great people from the fandom who I still talk to today. Aot is my favorite anime and I plan on rewatching the anime or buy the manga in the future. Now it is time for me to go to the next fandom aka twst lol

(reblogging from the toxic yaoi tournament poll) @rabbityshen I've noticed your tags and I'd like to share my thoughts on this, just because you raised a good argument and not to make you change your mind! I hope it's fine!

My point is, while on a first look it could seem that Suzaku and Lelouch started as a sweet and functional friendship, I don't quite agree looking more in depth at their relationship since the very beginning.

They've met as 10 years old when Lelouch was sent as an hostage to the Kururugi shrine. They were sons of the leaders of two nations at the opposite sides of an impending war, so bounded to be enemies by birth.

Now, Lelouch was an already traumatised child, he had seen his mother die and his sister becoming blind and crippled after the attack, then was abandoned and strumentalised by his father. Japanese were no kind to him to say the least—I mean, being secluded in a, what was it, an old shed, with really poor care for the children wellbeing except for the basic needs to make them stay alive because they were useful pawns? He was beaten on a daily basis, insulted and stepped on. He was followed by men who stood by and watched as he was being battered since their job was not to be his bodyguards but only to prevent him from killing himself, damn!, as if it were a perfectly reasonable and contemplated eventuality that no one cared to avoid by providing a bit of support, but just by blocking him from committing suicide if he ever tried! A 10 years old kid.

In a word, he was miserable. And at the very start was Suzaku any different than all the other Japanese? No. He bullied, beated and insulted him. He called him a weakling, he also said to him that he didn't even have the right to address him and speak to him, because he was the son of the Prime Minister and Lelouch a nobody. Sign that he was somewhat aware of the disparity between them and that he was taking advantage of that power unbalancement rooted to those racial differences and political issues that would soon escalate into war. Obviously as a kid he couldn't really understand all of this, he was just mimicking the adults, and let me stress that I don't want to condemn him, I LOVE his character, and if I don't go into a more detailed analysis here it's just because it's not the point of my argument.

What I intend to say is that not only they didn't start "on the right foot", but the premise of their future friendship was already bitter. That rivalry had more serious roots than that of the two usual kids that at the beginning don't get along well. Yes, Suzaku soon regrets being cruel to him, take pity on him and decides instead that he "must protect him". But the fact itself that a child as broken as Lelouch was immediately grew attached to whom until the day before was his BULLY speaks of emotional issues. It's because of Suzaku that he realises that since his mother died he too wasn't laughing anymore, not just Nunnally. He needed that friendship as you need water (pun intended, if you've watched the OVAs :D).

Then the war broke out. They even spent a short time surviving together in the middle of a war-torn country covered in ashes, blood and corpses, a traumatising experience that can really bond two (three, in this case) people in an extremely strong, visceral way. What makes so important the shared memory of that "summer of joy" is that it's been the last glimpse of their innocent childhood before it was brutally stripped from them. If it wasn't for that, it would be almost laughable the level of mutual obsession they have for each other only on the basis of– what, a few months spent playing together and having fun as if they were two normal kids that briefly met on a summer camp 7 years before?

To Lelouch, Suzaku has been his last chance at being still a child when he was already miserable, a light in the dark. To Suzaku, though, Lelouch has been probably a sunset before nightfall, since everything started to collapse for him the moment they met (in this regard, I find it "funny" how Lelouch has been the unintentional cause of it, since him and Nunnally presence was just a trap, a false sign of submission and guarantee of peace on Britannia's part to make Japan lower their defenses. Which is why the sudden attack was so effective. Japan was no weak, actually it was an economically powerful nation (the most) with strong alliances, they've been just caught by surprise).

Then they meet again as 17 years old, they even become schoolmates, but by then they're already denied the chance to truly be just normal, functional friends, since they're unknownly enemies.

To quote Suzaku own thoughts, a pov that takes place BEFORE the SAZ massacre and Euphemia's death, and which proves that deep inside he already knew Zero's true identity (for how long?),

An accident of birth tied you to me as my first enemy, and now… you have become the worst friend I’ve ever had.

Lelouch vi Britannia (Code Geass) vs Bedman (Guilty Gear)

Propaganda below cut! (spoiler warning)

Lelouch

Lelouch thinks he's singularly strong enough to take down an entire empire that controls two-thirds of the planet and owns giant murder robots. There are many, many times where he nearly gives away his secret identity, get himself or his allies killed, and/or ruins his own rebellion because he overestimates himself. Most notably, the entirety of his hubris throughout the series culminates in all of his allies turning against him and him only being able to survive because his "brother" has the exact required superpower to be able to sacrifice himself to save Lelouch. He also believes (mostly correctly, in the case of Code Geass) that he is so important that his death will bring about world peace; Lelouch is very similar to what happens when you take Light Yagami and make him both effective and actually a decent person.

Bedman

SO ngl I'm not entirely sure if this counts as hubris or not But. Him and his sister were both born with a condition that made their brains go too fast and forced them to have to be in a coma so their brains don't overheat. So Bedman was in a coma, dreaming, and found out that dreams were connected to a different dimension called "The Backyard". Now, there's a lot of confusing lore when ot comes to The Backyard, but it's essentially the "code" or "operating system" of reality. So what do you do when you find out that you can basically manipulate reality via your dreams while in a coma? Try to become a god of course! Well, kinda. More specifically he wanted to create what's basically a new world, one where he can rewrite a few things so that him and his sister don't have to deal with being in a coma. But that'd require basically god like powers to actually pull off. Now, at some point while he was making his plans in The Backyard, he met the pope (no like, literally the pope,) otherwise known as Ariels. Before this he was full well ready to die to meet his goal, but Ariels offered a few alterations to his plans that would allow him to live (and allow her to meet her goals as well). So with her connections as the pope, Ariels was able to fashion him a mechanical weaponized bedframe that he could control and use for his missions (aka murder lots of murder). Fast forwards a bit and surprise surprise! The plans are kinda sorta falling apart. He's still sticking with it to the bitter end and, by God, is the end bitter. A retired vampire and some people who used to/still work for the assassins guilt he used to run (long story) figured out Bedman's weaknesses, then put together a plan to defeat him. Of which involved a gay man who uses a billiards que as a weapon and a robot (who's also gay long story). So these 2 confront Bedman, the robot tells him to touch grass before blowing up in his face and allowing the gay man to crush Bedman with a giant que (again, long story). This act wakes Bedman up. After this they kinda fuck off, then Ariels appears. Bedman, who looks like a literal wet cat at this point, informs Ariels that he is no longer useful in combat, and will use his remaining power to heal the casualties. What does Ariels do? Laugh. She fucking laughs and tells him that she's been manipulating him all long, and that he did so perfectly he even dies for her in the end. So he, understandably tbh, gets absolutely fucking furious with her and proceeds to begin creating an absolute world and prevents her from killing him. Telling her that he could've just, done this the whole time on his own. But it's already too late, he's dying from being awake for too long. So he uses the last of his power to do... Something. We aren't sure what Exactly he did, but he did something that allowed his sister to be awake. After which he turns to stone and Ariels is upset that she wasn't able to kill him herself. NOW, if this at all makes him sound super sympathetic, that's because I was trying to skip over a lot of stuff to save time and that included the part where he uhhhh, you know, kills hundreds, potentially thousands and enjoys it. The first scene you see of him is him choking a man in his dream world while tauting him and grinning. He isn't a good person and fully deserved what was coming to him (in fact his original plan most likely involved more people dying). Anyways, if you want to know more watch the Xrd arcade mode cutscenes and then watch the Xrd story mode they're all on YouTube;

So here's the other stuff I want to say about him: I LOVE HIM SO MUCH he's such an asshole he's great. Whenever you win a match as him he goes on a rant that could be summed up as "sucks to suck" but is 10 times longer than it needs to be while talking at mach 10. Example of this: "We talk about 'survival of the fittest' a lot but all that really means is the skilled live and the unskilled die. Since you're clearly in that second group, maybe pick your fights a bit more carefully? Do you understand what I'm saying? It's never going to matter how much you 'want it' when you're up against someone who can kill you with a sneeze." He also has an instant kill (a special attack that every character has a unique version of, it's also usually very over the top and flashy,) that is called The Theater of Pain. Basically, what he does in this attack is drag the opponent into his nightmare world (which is a movie theater) and subjects them to their worst possible trauma. He watches this with a grin and proceeds to fucking CLAP afterwards. My dude literally has his very own personal murder torture dimension and still felt the need to remake the whole world. If this doesn't sound like an asshole who's be done in by their hubris idk what does.
