This is one of my favorite one-shots. I have ideas for a follow up one of these days. It was an ask from my Drabble Me This series. I have since learned that the photo is a still from a scene in a movie. I didn't know that at the time. I read the ask, saw the photo and then this story was just in my head.

Nobody making Liam fanart??? Fine, I’ll do it myself

This funny (severely traumatized) dog (terminally ill man) has taken over my life for the past couple days (I’m enjoying myself)

I noticed absolutely nobody making fanart for him even though he is objectively the best dislyte character. His design is on point and his story is absolutely perfect for the mythology he comes from. I’m a bit of a Xolotl enthusiast (I mean hell I have a chibi of him as my pfp) so I was really worried about him after seeing what they did with Quetzalcoatl, but IM SO FUCKIN HAPPY HES EVERYTHING I COULD HAVE WANTED DISLYTE TEAM YOU HAVE REDEEMED YOURSELVES!!!!

I’ve got a painting of him in the works too.

it's such a wild contrast going into the mighty nein after vox machina — first of all the atmosphere and the feel is completely different, clear indication that you've entered a different story, of different people, on a completely different continent. and i can't say i do not enjoy it.

but what's getting me the most is a contrast between vax — jumping recklessly in front of everybody, less of his own person but an addition to someone's life, a secondary priority, — and caleb — bruised, beaten, a mess of pain and terror plaguing his mind, keeping to the outskirts of the battle like a coward. there's guilt and grief following both of them but so differently. liam o'brien... wow.
