ok so I realized I've been up to some hacker ass shenanigans these last few years and didn't even know.
i bike in a car centric american city and got sick of drivers 'not seeing me' at night. I got this fully retroreflective jacket from a rave gear store bc it was cuter than the cycling ones. like you will fuckin see me. Everyone was giving me space or stopping. Especially the prototype autonomous vehicles a bunch of companies are testing in my city.
well, i just found out that my jacket scatters the light back so well that it completely wrecks a LIDAR. Like this jacket anywhere in frame? Can't see shit. I'm a block of [CENSORED], there's a ghost reflection (lens flare?), and there's noise everywhere.
Also not to get up to more mayhem knowingly but how would the [censored] jacket pair with a cane with an embedded radar reflector, and a pair of latex leggings?
Researchers have detected a cluster of lost 2,500-year-old cities at the foothills of the Andes in the Amazon rainforest.
This amazing discovery, the oldest and largest of its kind in the region, includes a vast system of farmland and roads, revealing that Ecuador's Upano Valley was densely populated from about 500 BCE to between 300 and 600 CE.

Lasers reveal 'lost' pre-Hispanic civilization deep in the Amazon
Millions of lasers shot from a helicopter flying over the Amazon basin have revealed evidence of unknown settlements built by a "lost" pre-Hispanic civilization, resolving a long-standing scientific debate about whether the region could sustain a large population, a new study finds.
The findings indicate the mysterious Casarabe people — who lived in the Llanos de Mojos region of the Amazon basin between A.D. 500 and 1400 — were much more numerous than previously thought, and that they had developed an extensive civilization that was finely adapted to the unique environment they lived in, according to the study, published online Wednesday (May 25) in the journal Nature. The new iPhones have a distance sensor called Lidar and a bunch of software which basically scans and builds a 3D model of your environment on the phone, which gets very accurately overlaid on top of the real world.
PS: see how the person is standing IN FRONT of the code? That’s being done with real time occlusion, as the Lidiar sensor detects the person being closer to the phone than the wall, so it draws a mask in real time to hide the falling code.
A groundbreaking study has unveiled a treasure trove of thousands of ancient earthworks concealed within the dense green canopy of the Amazon rainforest.
Mapping the Underwater World: The Role of LiDAR in Oceanography
In the quest to explore and understand the mysteries of the ocean, technology plays a pivotal role in unveiling the hidden wonders beneath the waves. Among the array of cutting-edge tools at our disposal, LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) has emerged as a go-to technology, enabling scientists to map the seafloor, study underwater topography, and reveal geological features that were once…
A team of archaeologists has been rewarded for trekking some 60 kilometers (37 miles) into the dense Yucatan Peninsula jungles of southern Mexico: they've discovered a long-lost ancient Maya city that there are no previous records of.
Of course a lot of the city has been lost to time: the archaeologists say that the stone columns may well have originally been entrances to upper rooms. There's also a ball court, for recreational and perhaps religious purposes.
Ahead of the field work done by the researchers, overhead LIDAR scans were carried out across the area. The technology uses the reflections of laser beams to detect buildings that are otherwise hidden from view by trees and undergrowth.
"The biggest surprise turned out to be the site located on a peninsula of high ground, surrounded by extensive wetlands," says archaeologist and team leader Ivan Šprajc, from the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts (via Google Translate).

No quiero que se me pase la vida esperando, esperando personas, esperando oportunidades, esperando dinero, esperando, esperando esperando. No hay tiempo para esperar, me frustra no saber que hacer para lidiar contra la espera
