Being an ally isn't just "I don't hate this marginalised group", thats neutrality
Being an ally means supporting and helping those marginalised groups when facing bigotry, and yeah, that support and help means that occasionally, you have to give up some things, be it a game, a online creator, a musician, etc.
If you can't do the bare minimum of showing support, you're not an ally. You never were

Correcting Pronouns
Can we talk about how uncomfortable it is to correct somebody on your pronouns around other people you don’t know?
Like even when they tell you, oh please correct me, but like… if we’re in front of people whom I’ve never met… no probably not because I don’t know if exposing that information to these people is going to get me hate crimed or not.
Like, props to the allies for catching yourself, but if we’re in front of new people and you slip up, if I don’t correct you, let it pass please. If I want them to know I’ll correct you, but that’s not always information I want publicized.
Especially if the people we’re meeting are upper adults. I am at risk here. I do not stand on the same power level, if they choose to weaponize this against me, correcting them will do nothing.
You respect me, but I don’t know if they do, and I can’t take that risk.

So my friend came out to me recently and said that she only likes girls. I did what I usually do when someone comes out to me and I told her that I was proud of her, that I supported her, and I even told her that I hope she finds a really nice girl for herself.
Even though I've had suspicions for awhile that this friend is actually a lesbian (she identified as bisexual for awhile), I still made sure not to be like, "Ha, I told you so!" or "Yeah, everyone had a feeling about that."
And I started thinking about how important it is to let people figure out who they are on their own.
It doesn't matter how long it takes. It doesn't matter if "everyone knows" or if "everyone thinks you're *this* or *that*."
What matters is that you are who you are. You realize it when you realize it. And please become comfortable with who you are because this is the only life you'll get and you shouldn't spend it being uncomfortable with yourself.
That is all.
(Also, all lesbians and wlw out there have my heart. I wish you the best.)

I just don't think we give Jackson enough credit for being someone Aiden felt comfortable coming out to at seventeen years old or the fact that he clearly made a space where straight wasn't seen as the only option and, as he jokingly says, gave Aiden the "love is love" talk and supported Aiden's relationship with a vampire because it made him happy. Jackson was such an ally. Love that for him.
Jackson, imo, is also in general just a great example of healthy masculinity. The man is clearly in line with what people consider to be more masculine. He has a beard and he's protective and he's outdoorsy. But he listens to Hayley's advice, he accepts Aiden being gay, and he doesn't push the idea that you have to fit in a gender role box to be worthy of his respect. He apologizes when he messes up. I just think he's neat.

If you think you're pro trans but don't support children transitioning and taking hormones, please fuck off. You do not support trans people. Children know who they are just as much as adults and can make their own decisions about their bodies. It is literally suicide prevention to let kids transition. Stop pretending to be an ally if you don't fully support the community.

• When an article talking about harmful norms we try to conform to lists “sex drive” as an example
• When someone assumes my pronouns, then pauses to check in if they’re right
