Fun Supernatural fact: If the Winchester house (53 Barker Ave, Lawrence, KS) actually existed, it would be in the middle of the Kaw River (aka Kansas River).

(Source: I lived in Lawrence for 25 years, and this fact is a source of much amusement to local fans. It's because of how streets are numbered N to S on one side of the Kaw, and S to N on the other side.)

Hello new followers

This has NOTHING to do with some of the other posts that made you follow me, but now you’re here, I’d like your feedback:

I’m the Chair of the Sustainability Board in Lawrence, Kansas. I founded the LFK Sunrise Movement hub, wrote our local Green New Deal, and have been working on our Climate Action Plan. 

I want to put to propose a motion that Board Chair is required to be under the age of 30, effective immediately. 

The youth are LITERALLY the largest stakeholders in the Climate Emergency. Just like shareholders with the largest portfolios determine company policies and direction, young people should LITERALLY have the majority of the leadership positions. 

The Sustainability Board is old and conservative and spends more time jockeying for power than actually working. But we now have a brand new member, a young gnc Sunrise Movement activist (who got more done in ONE MEETING than other members have in three years, literally) and I think they’d be an incredible Chair Of The Board. 

I do better with maximum input and constructive criticism and workshopping, so I’m asking you very very much, please respond to this and let me know of any stumbling blocks or weak spots in my proposal. Play devil’s advocate, please. It’s impossible to offend me at this age and stage of activism, and I’m very serious about this policy recommendation. I’d like it to spread to other salient boards and city government positions, so please give me your feedback.

Book release event tonight in LFK!

The Privilege of the Happy Ending: Small, Medium, and Large Stories, by Kij Johnson

At 7:00pm tonight, the Raven Book Store in Lawrence, Kansas, will host the official book release of Kij Johnson's newest collection of brilliant short fiction.

This weekend, Kij is also Author Guest of Honor at the World Fantasy Convention in Kansas City, if you can't make tonight's event but are going to be at WFC and want to meet her.

This is Kij's sixth public book release event and something like her eighth book (more if you count ebook-only books, and even more if you count gaming and other books). Her work has won the Hugo, Nebula, and World Fantasy Awards among others, and been short-listed for many more. Her writing is varied and diverse not only in the spec-fic genres, but also reaches far into the mainstream experimental realm.

She's also one of the Ad Astra Institute's directors, and served our forebear spec-fic centers at the University of Kansas for decades.

If you cannot attend either event but want to get a copy of the book, you can order directly from the Raven in trade paper or get the hardcover (of course they're also available from big booksellers like Amazon).
