Who do you think the most REALISTIC vampires are in TVD and/or TO?

This is such an interesting question because there are so many ways to answer it. And in typical fashion, I'll just answer it in every way I can think of.

To me, a realistic vampire would be closer to the original idea of vampires and less of the modern "Twilight" like vampires. In this way, Damon is probably the most realistic. Vampires have served as allegories for the rich who lived off the life force of the lower classes. Therefore they have historically been depicted as sauve, elite, monsters who reveled in the death of their inferiors.

Damon understands what it means to be an old-fashioned vampire. He holds very little value for life and takes what he wants. He enjoys the nightlife and the privileges that come with vampirism but doesn't seem to be bothered by the downsides, such as drinking blood. He is charismatic and has no problem stealing other's autonomy. He views humans as less than and uses them for his own self-interest. He is vulnerable like a vampire -- vulnerable to the sun, to being staked, having his heart ripped out, and decapitation. This vulnerability helps sell the realism.

I don't really consider any of the Originals as "realistic" since they are too overpowered. They aren't affected by the normal things that would impact vampires, such as being staked. The sun will set them on fire but not kill them. While they do represent the elitism of vampirism perfectly, they aren't what I would consider the most "realistic" vampires.

Stefan and many of the "good" vampires are very much more modern takes on vampires. Now depending on how we look at realism, this could still be acceptable if we view them without the lens of class struggle.

I would say Marcel is the most realistic "good" vampire. Like Damon, Marcel also thrives as a vampire and enjoys the different aspects of it. However, unlike Damon, Marcel strives to use his immortality to create a community. This is something we don't often see in vampire stories however I think is very realistic. If you are going to live forever, you would want to surround yourself with a community that would do the same. Marcel does play into the stereotypes of the elite because he is definitely living well, however, he understands the necessity of those who are "inferior" to him and creates strict rules to protect the humans. He even goes to war to fight for humans. This is typically not something vampires are depicted doing.

Oddly enough, my two examples are both characters who had more control over their turning. Damon and Marcel both knew about vampires before turning and both actively wanted to turn. They knew what it meant as humans and wanted that life so they seemed to embrace it more.

Honorable Mentions:

Lexi is a great depiction of vampirism. Like Marcel, she embraces the good but tries to turn the bad around. She also believes in a sense of community. I would have loved to see her wander into New Orleans and meet Marcel.

Katherine is close to realistic because of how she behaves as a vampire, however, her hang-ups on high schoolers kind of took me out of it. While vampires did tend to prey off of the young, Katherine's obsession with Elena and Stefan always made her seem more Twilight than realistic vampires.

I know everyone says Caroline was better as a vampire, but I think that's such an unfair statement. She was an insecure teenager and likely would have grown and developed as she got older. Caroline tended to only represent the good in vampirism which isn't super realistic. She basically was just a human that drank a little blood but was hardly shown doing it.

I feel like I can't talk about "realistic" vampires without mentioning August, Greta, and Antoinette. They create a group of vampires who believe in the purity of vampirism. However, we don't really see much of them except that they don't wear daylight rings. This, to me, isn't enough to call them "realistic." We don't really see them basking in the vampirism like we do other characters. They mostly just preach about it.

I have seen very little of Legacies, but from what I have seen, the vampires seem very Twilight-esque. Sorry if I'm wrong on that.

For the most part, the vampires in TVDU are often depicted like Caroline. Vampirism is randomly brought in as a plot point but often pushed aside in favor of focusing on the drama. Season 1 tells us that blood is very tempting to vampires, and then quickly dropped for most of the show. As it goes on, the younger vamps don't even struggle to turn and can control their bloodlust easily. They show the vampire's supernatural powers (speed, strength, etc.) but often brush over the dark side.

Caroline Forbes was quite irrelevant

She had no important connections, apart from nonsensical flirtation and hookups with Klaus and she was shoehorned into many plots.

She was also shown to be better than older vampires on numerous occasions and her abilities surpassed Elena’s by far, even though they were only one vampire year apart.

Her stans also constantly complain about the amount of attention that Elena was given, which is very hypocritical as Caroline got to be a main character almost all of the time, participating in every mystery and storyline, no matter how irrelevant her character was to the plot. Meanwhile, Post s3 Elena was reduced to Damon’s sidekick and love interest, who never did anything, and died every season. Also, Katherine was killed off in season 5, meaning that the doppelgänger plot that started the show and made Elena the main protagonist was gone.

I don’t hate Caroline but it was clear that she was the writer’s favourite and kept relevant for the sake of fan service. To me, she was just a boring character who got much more screen time than more interesting characters such as Lexi, Katherine and Rebekah and had far too many bad love interests.

1. Bonnie Bennett

Self explanatory. She’s the baddest bitch and a powerful bitch. I love this girl and I will stand by this girl. Plus she’s black, and we gotta stick together.

2. Damon Salvatore

Let’s not act surprise. He’s my man. I will ALWAYS defend him (even though I will always admit he’s done some terrible shit). But that’s still baby boy. I connect with Damon more than anyone on the show tbh. Simply because we share the same trauma (trust issues, abandonment issues…). And we have the same humor. And I love how he’s not afraid to be the bad guy when needed and he says what needs to be said, no matter who’s feelings get hurt. Brutal honesty. Love him.

3. Katherine Pierce

Listen, listen. She’s just a bad bitch, idk what y’all want me to say. Her aesthetic is just good! Shes a survivor which is something that we look up to in some degree. And I have to give props to her for never turning off her humanity. Although I hated how they gave her that obsessed with Stefan storyline in S5, like girl, stand up!

4. Elijah Mikaelson (on TVD)

Honestly, I have no idea why I ranked Elijah this high. All I know is that whenever he’s on screen, I giggle a little bit.

5. Klaus Mikaelson (TVD)

Same with Klaus tbh. Klaus annoys me but I also wanna be friends with him (*cough* with benefits *cough*). Everyone loves a tortured soul, am I right?

6. Elena Gilbert

Don’t come from me. I love Elena and she’s literally not so bad that everyone makes her out to be. I especially loved her from S1-3.

7. Rebekah Mikaelson

Another bad bitch.

8. Lexi

I actually almost forgot about Lexi. But she would be in the top three if she didn’t die so damn soon. She could’ve added such a good dynamic with the main characters. Such wasted potential.

9. Rose

Another wasted potential. I loved her and Damon’s relationship, and it added a bit more maturity to show in my opinion. Idk, loved her.

10. Caroline Forbes

Now… I have a hate/love relationship with Caroline. But more love than hate. I just… simply don’t agree with her personality 💀. I just know if she was real, me and her would NOT get along. Caroline just has a very nosy, judgmental and loudly opinionated personality that I just don’t fw. But I know she does this because of love and because of how much she loves her friends. And she can be adorable. She’s annoying but in a tolerable-cute-annoying way. Like a sibling.

Ranking TVD Female characters Part 1.

0/10, honestly I couldn't stand Elena she was annoying, self centered, selfish, and a hypocrite. She's not the good girl that she's made out to be. She always makes everything about herself, like Caroline's mom almost died and made it all about her and decided to have a makeout session with Damon like wtf. I loved how everytime if someone turned their humanity off they just realized that Elena is not worth dying for. She has a lot of Katherine qualities in her even though she would always say she's not Katherine. She used Elijah, Erasing Jeremy's memory, killing Rebekah. One thing about Elena I hate how when her friends would tell her how they felt and she would just disagree and she would just gaslight tf out of them. She also could not live without a man,. Also I hated how she dated Damon knowing damn well he abused Caroline.

10/10 in season 1 I could not stand Caroline she was so annoying and self centered and she was always in competition with Elena, and that's why Elena and Bonnie would cancel her out because she was just a hater. I think Katherine did her a favor turning her to a vampire because after she turned into a vampire Caroline was that girl 💅, I like that no matter what even if it would hurt somebody's feelings She would always tell them the truth whether they like it or not. Even when she turned her humanity off she really wasn't that bad I feel like they would've have just left her alone because she really didn't do anything we get it she wasn't herself. but I did not like when her humanity was off because it was like she was being her regular self and wasn't at the same time but she wasn't out murdering people until they started bothering her. But I still love her and she's still one of my favorite characters.

100/100 this bitch deserves better out of all of them I don't care, she has been through hell and suffered the most out of all of her friends. None of them wouldn't be alive if it wasn't for her. And I can't believe she stuck through with those people cause she loved them even though they killed every single one of her loved ones. Her grandma died because Damon wanted to open the fucking tomb to find Katherine even though she wasn't even in there, so her grandma died for no reason, then Silas came and killed her father right in front of her, Damon turned her mom into a vampire, Stefan killed Enzo, And she stopped a fucking hellfire. They were always using her for their advantage for something. I feel like they did love Bonnie to the extinct but only because she was so powerful and that they could help their narrative. They only call out to her because they needed something. She gave Caroline the sunlight ring, she resurrected Damon, Jeremy, she literally became the anchor.

0/10, she was so annoying I honestly did not care when she died. She's useless like her brother and she kinda led Jeremy on and would switch back to Tyler. I have nothing else to say about her.

100/100, Katherine was that bitch. I love how she stands her ground and she never to pretend to be something she's not. At the end of the day everyone knew she was trying to save herself and only herself and she made it known numerous times. I really hate how everyone used her and get mad at her when she leaves or when she does some shady shit but you guys literally hate her and all you use her for is when you need her and I feel like if they treated Katherine differently the storyline would be way different. And I feel like Katherine deserved better.

10/10, I love Rebekah she's literally my favorite Mikaelson, Also deserved so much more than she got and she was actually a sweet girl. The only reason they disliked her was because of Klaus, they did not like Klaus so they took their hatred of Klaus out on her.

10/10 I love Lexi she was nice and chill and a good best friend to Stefan,I hated how Damon killed her because I loved her. I really got mad when she decided not to be alive and stay on the other side.

10/10 i loved Sybil she was that bitch and she was an awesome villain of season 8. She did not deserve that much hate she's actually underrated character. she was just betrayed by her sister who turned her to a cannibal and abandoned her on a island. I didn't like that she got killed because I would love to see more scenes from her.

9/10 I loved her and her relationship with Mary Louise honestly I would love to see a little relationship with Bonnie not gonna lie. I know she did not get much screen time but her death scene with Mary was so cute but at least they both died together.

8/10 I love Jenna I know she was kinda oblivious of everything going on because no one told her anything, but her death was so heartbreaking for me but honestly she's underrated. We love Jenna.
