#let casey run the tva

Loki accepted loneliness and isolation to watch over the love of his life and his friends!!!! like in episode 5, he thought mobius and the others would be okay without him, so he just let them go live in their own place in the timeline. EVEN IF it meant living without them.
same thing here. he goes off to guard the timelines to take care of his friends and his only consolation is that they're all happy and okay, living and moving on. casey, ob, and b15 are running the TVA properly. sylvie happily moves on and walks away, finally free to live on her own terms.
who doesn't? Mobius.
he leaves the only thing he's ever known. he stands there, watching his life on the timeline with melancholy and loneliness. and he "let's time pass". why? because like sylvie said right before she left him, it's "weird without loki". it's not the same for Mobius, without the person whose life he studied, who he grew to care about and believe in.
so loki fulfills his glorious purpose. so does casey, ob, b15, and sylvie. while mobius takes a pause to search for his own. and yet loki and mobius are both sad and alone at the end.

Jet-Skiing through identity: A deep dive into Mobius M. Mobius (part 4)🛥️
"And I'm yours but you're not mine" (Say Don't Go)
That's Mobius in season 1, because from all we know, he was the one to fall first. A fall that, just like domino pieces, results in a beautiful union of...well, everything.
But now, in season 2, his love is finally reciprocated. He showed Loki something they hadn't seen in themselves. And not only he loved them, but proved to Loki why they're deserving of that love as well. And now that he is finally appreciated and seen by the last person he was expecting, he also gets the insight he never knew he was looking for. This is like always running from something right into the chasm, until someone takes your hand and makes you stop. Even if it means facing your fears.
Open first episode of season 2, when the entire Loki legion was on the verge of a heart attack waiting to see what will happen. (That's actually me, I think I'm not alone). Those were crazy times indeed. Now, to our Mobius: a relative present version of him, not the one that didn't recognize Loki. That was scary. His first line is:
<<Hey, everything you've been doing is wrong, and all your gods are dead. How are people gonna take that?>>
I interpret this as his own thoughts and feelings projected on the collective. It's true for them, but it's relatable to Mobius.
And after all, why would everyone at the TVA believe all this time? The same reason as why we do it: we want to: that's where it all starts. And for someone like Mobius, who didn't believe in himself, it was much more logical to believe in the time gods. Putting the blame on fate takes the burden off your shoulders. But no burden, no glory. Few of them had guts to admit. But even indirectly, Mobius did (and has been for a while).
Backing the argument that he cares about Loki, and that he fell first, his reaction to hearing his name from Casey is immaculate.
Tumblr media
He immediately tries to figure out a way to locate him. He might take a more "slow, deliberate approach", but not when he knows people he cares about are in danger. Not when he can still help.
Then, to X-5's attempt to make him feel bad about his spot on the original timeline, he responds with a neutral approach, not letting such things get to him. He even goes to explaining why jet-skis are so cool. This is something that shows how passionate Mobius can be about the things he likes. I don't think he would do this if he wouldn't be provoked in some sort of way, because the total absence of interest from others can kill a spark pretty quick. But he doesn't let it go just because no one around him sees jet-skis as important as he does. I love him for it.
His pure care for Loki and the way he comforts them the best he can is also very important in this episode. Mobius does his best to calm Loki down, trying to see the situation from an outside point of view so it can be solved efficiently. He's there, he doesn't let Loki down, and we know he would never; "Okay, you wanted time to think, so let's think." - as in let's think together, you're not alone.
Tumblr media
Also, when Loki rushes to find Sylvie so they can fix what is happening, Mobius slows him down. He knows Loki wouldn't take the time to take care of themselves, so he does it for him, knowing exactly how much to insist, and that the timeslipping can't be let out if control for a long while.
Another trait resulting from the episode is sort of a disapproval avoidance, from the convo with O.B. Mobius obviously had his memory wiped and doesn't remember him, but doesn't admit it: it could hurt this nice guy and make him look like a fool (it wouldn't, really. he didn't have to worry abt it).
Then, at the end of the episode, this care (LOVE!!!) he carries for Loki is once again is highlighted:
Tumblr media
Because, even at the risk of losing his skin (and, jokes aside, losing his life), Mobius still waits over the limit for Loki to make it back. What was I saying about believing? Even if the gods of the TVA are dead, the God of Mischief isn't. And Mobius always believed in him.

Under the root of Yggdrasil (Loki x fem! Reader)
Summary: Sometimes being able to see your loved ones from afar is good enough.
Warning: It's Loki who doesn't like him. Medium angst, Loki s2 ep 6 spoilers? Norse Mythology, acceptance, Loki needs a hug,
As usual, I'm sorry if there are any wrong sentences or typos or grammatical mistakes, please forgive me and again English is not my first language, so I try to improve my language and writing in this way.
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
Staring at the one spot makes all the views in the corners of your eyes blur as you only focus on one spot. Your mind is somewhere else while your fingers unconsciously fidget on Loki's broken tempad. It's been a few weeks since the temporal loom event.
Since Loki sacrificed himself to save the entire timeline even universe. He's not dead but his absence is enough to make one. The way he smiled in sadness and willingly to be a pillar of the tree of life and also the way he said 'I love you' for the last time to you made you enough to shed tears.
All the events are back to normal and like nothing happened, yet you feel empty without Loki's presence. Mobius? He is retired. B-15? she's also thinking of retiring. O. B? busy with everything. And you don't want to bother Casey as he seems quite busy too.
While Sylvie, she has returned to her universe and that was the last time you saw her. She is still in the phase of accepting the truth after witnessing Loki's action.
How about you? It is very difficult to accept the fact that Loki is no longer with you. But still, you have to keep moving and living as normal. Which is quite difficult because you are both attached hip to hip to each other. Never lost from each other. Always found one another.
But ever since the Temporal Loom problem everything changed as Loki suddenly or willingly saved the Timelines by 'sacrifice' himself. you? You just let out an anguished loud shout to tell Loki to stop. But, Loki ignores it hoping you all are safe.
It was very difficult at first after a few days after the whole TVA problem. After Loki became the main pillar of the tree. Everything reminds you of him.
Not once, but many times. You yourself can't ignore that feeling but the next thing you know you're staring at nothingness with your cheeks wet with tears. You miss him and worry about him at the same time. Which makes you wonder in your mind. What is he doing now? Is he lonely? is he okay? All those questions running around your head which make you more sad and worried.
You always think about his well-being. You wonder if he can see you now from the Yggdrasil tree. Seeing yourself who cannot accept the fact that he is 'gone'. After all those things you both went through. Is this the ending you both got? Away from each other. Lost a loved one? is that the ending you both get? Funny.
Sometimes, if you are too worried about him or miss him, you will go to TVA and to the place where the Yggdrasil tree is shown behind the glass of the room where you, Loki, Sylvie, Mobius, Victor, O. B and Cassie were before.
Staring at the tree for a long time as you make sure that he is not alone although you can't see him. The green glowing tree really reminds you of him. And you hope he is fine there. Sometimes, O. B will come to check up on some technology in the room and notice you in front of the glass mirror standing stiffly with your eyes looking at the tree. He gives you a sympathetic look even if you don't look at him but he knows you just want to make sure Loki is okay.
'You look sad, when you think he can't see you'. Ever heard? yup, that's what you've been going through all along. Thanks Molly Hooper.
But what you don't know is that Loki actually has the same feelings as you. Missing, worried and sad. He missed you, He worried about you and He was sad that he couldn't be with you.
But, he can't do anything. His duty is what he has to do to make sure all Timelines are under control.
He missed your touch, he missed your voice and he missed your smiles. And he can only see you from afar. And that was enough for him.

loki season 2 episode 4 spoilers
hm timeslipping is in the recap. i wonder if this means it’s gonna happen this episode
ohhhhhh they need kang’s temporal aura to unlock the thingy, i completely missed that last time
OMINOUS WHISPERS??
YOOO THAT WAS A COOL OPENING
hold up hold up so was “for all time. always” ravonna’s and kang’s i-love-you statement that kang made into the tva slogan or did the slogan come first
protocol 42 you say? 🤨
i wonder what they knew that made him want to erase their memories. was it just the knowledge of his existence or something specific?
ohoho ravonna is PISSED
“we don’t need him. maybe we never did” well miss minutes that was quite the 180 from last episode’s shenanigans
victor is in the tva now!
…where is everyone
oh here’s b-15 nevermind
and mobius and loki!
oh hey sylvie!
so it seems like the timeline screens have (at least) two different modes — one showing the branches in relation to the sacred timeline and one showing how the branches are fitting into the loom
hmm not sure if i would trust that general lady either (the one who bombed the timeline, not talking about the one on our side)
this is far from the point but. aww casey’s and ouroboros’ little arm brush!!
YOOO VICTOR AND OUROBOROS BOTH LEARNED FROM EACH OTHER
victor please be better than kang bc a friendship between casey and ouroboros and him would be so cute and i’m starting to get attached to him
AWWWW THEY ARE BOTH SUCH NERDS
“when SOMEONE killed he-who-remains” CRYINGG
awwwwwwwww ouroboros’ little smile when mobius complimented him!!
skdhskdh sylvie’s face she’s so done with mobius and loki squabbling
AWWWWW OB’S SMILE WHEN VICTOR SHOOK HIS HAND!!
uh oh extremely orange prison
not relevant but the actor for brad is doing his holding-his-collar pose! continuity
welp i guess we’re in the pie room now
oh dear loki’s talking about sacred timeline stuff. let’s see if the writers actually got the details right this time
oh so there were branches that survived the bombing. i thought the screen had shown that all of them had been bombed
“we are gods.” why was the camera so far away for that line. that’s. kinda odd
a time door? in MY overly orange prison cell?!
ravonna is baaaack
oooohhhh that’s a deal i bet many of them won’t refuse
woah woah. why are they refusing it. when did that happen
oh so NOW they’re portraying the shrinking cubes as being as horrific as they are, but when mobius and loki do it, it’s just a silly goofy time
MISS MINUTE’S EXPRESSION I????
HOLY SHIT HOLY SHIT THE SOUND EFFECTS? GOD
i’m guessing this slots ravonna firmly into the evil zone
ayyy it’s the comfort nerd trio! please comfort me i’ve been traumatized by that last scene
i bet victor has an idea about fixing the loom inspired by the coco machine
heyyyyy b-15, welcome to the horrors, here’s some humor-as-a-coping-mechanism for your welcoming gift! (b-15’s actor did a amazing job there)
victor? what are you doing buddy
BRAD NO WHY DID YOU DO THAT
BRAD GO PRUNE RAVONNA INSTEAD
OH NO VICTOR
i'm screaming?? mobius how did you even access unauthorized games from the tva
OH SHIT THE TEMPADS AREN’T WORKING?!?
WHERE IS LOKI AND SYLVIE IN ALL OF THIS ARE THEY OK
there they are!! they’re ok
uh ohh
helpppp victor’s face when he sees ravonna and miss minutes
HOLY CANNOLI THAT’S A LOT OF TIMELINES. IT’S SO GLOWY
and that’s when sylvie enters the elevator!!
RUN LOKI RUN
wait wait is that the loki from ep 1 who’s running around? i think it is
OHH HERE’S JACKET LOKI. YEP I WAS RIGHT
ANSWER THE PHONE LOKI
SCREAMING IT WAS OUROBOROS THIS WHOLE TIME
WOOO THEY’RE GONNA HAVE MAGIC
miss minutes just died. well. that was terrifying
🎶 who’s in the hallway with bradley 🎶
OOHOHO IT’S LOKI
AND SYLVIEEEEEE
GOODBYE RAVONNA
the windows have opened!
oh no no no no nooo victor don’t sacrifice yourself please
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
sobs and cries on the floor. why. why
OH SHIT IT’S EXPLODING. QUICK EVERYBODY PRUNE YOURSELVES SO YOU CAN END UP IN THE FIELD WORLD
WHAT WHAT YOU CAN’T DO THAT YOU CAN’T END THE EPISODE LIKE THIS
AAAHHH THE END CREDITS MUSIC IS SO UNSETTLING
WHAT YOU CAN’T END THIS WITHOUT AN END CREDIT SCENE EITHER ARE YOU SERIOUS GIVE US AN END CREDIT SCENE

Ghost. - part 10: It ain't fair.
My personal suggestion for this chapeter is Hit the Road Jack by Ray Charles
Part 1 here - part 11 here
PAIRING: TVA!LokixOC
TAG LIST: @kats72
SUMMARY: Loki meets sombody at the TVA he once knew. Unfortunately she doesn't seem to remember him.
TVA, 2021
Brad had led Mobius and Loki to Sylvie and had reaveld Dox’s plan to fix the damage to the sacred timeline.
The pruning of timelines carried out by Dox had been an effective genocide, but it had allowed them to gain time and narrow down the field to find Renslayer and Miss Minutes.
"We have a trace on Renslayer's tempad," Lydia announced, approaching Mobius's desk, followed by Casey.
"In fact, we have two," the latter clarified.
"Where are they?" Mobius urged.
"Chicago, 1868 and 1893," Casey handed a folder with all the details to Mobius.
"Is there anything relevant?"
"The 1893 Chicago World's Fair, but it wasn't particularly exciting, there was electricity and a pavilion run by women," Lydia shrugged.
"And is it important?" Loki asked, whom Lydia had been trying to ignore all along.
"If you had studied, you would know that they were very avant-garde things for the time," Lydia replied with a hint of venom before turning to Mobius. "I'll leave the operational part to you, let me know if you need anything else" she said before turning around and walking away.
"What did you do to her?" Mobius whispered to Loki.
"Nothing."
"It's never nothing," Casey interjected. "It's just that you don't know what it is."
"If I were you, I'd find out before she comes up with a way to prune us and make it look like an accident," Mobius urged.
Loki rolled his eyes before grabbing his coat and running after her.
---
"May I know what's wrong?" he asked once he caught up with her outside the control room.
"Nothing," Lydia shrugged without turning towards him.
"Then why are you avoiding me?"
"I'm not avoiding you," she retorted without even looking up in his direction.
"Is it about the milkshake?" [A/N: I'm just Ken playing in the background]
Lydia froze in place and turned to Loki.
"You know, Loki, I don't think you've ever had a milkshake." She took a step towards him, causing him to step back. "They're small drinks" she took another step "fresh, fruity," another step, "not over five foot six with a crooked haircut and smelling of fried food."
Loki found himself stuck between her and the empty corridor wall.
"Are you talking about Sylvie?"
"Are you talking about Sylvie?" she mocked him. "Of course I'm talking about Sylvie."
"Wait a second... are you jealous?"
"Don't be ridiculous," she took a step back, "what should I be jealous of?"
Loki grabbed her wrist, pulling her towards him and reversing their positions so that she was pinned between the wall and his body.
"If it's not jealousy, then what is it?" he looked down at her.
"I don't like her," Lydia tried to hold his gaze as she felt her legs turn to jelly. "She's a viper."
"Strange," Loki breathed against her face as he saw her chest rise and fall faster and faster. "Even Mobius doesn't like her, yet he doesn't avoid me."
"I'm your friend, I care about you," despite Lydia's attempt to sound convincing as she held his gaze, her voice almost sounded like a whisper.
"Is that what we are, Lydia?" Loki leaned dangerously close to her. "Friends?"
"Aren't we?" her voice trembled as she unconsciously tilted her face up towards his.
"Ok, Casanova, we don't have time for this," Mobius grabbed Loki by the shoulder, pulling him away and causing him to stumble backward. "Mobius?!" Loki looked at him.
Lydia let out a breath she didn't know she was holding as her face flushed various shades of red.
"Come on, we had little time before and certainly it hasn't increased," Mobius started walking.
Loki sighed, following him, and in doing so, glanced at Lydia, finding her blushing, with her mouth slightly open and her chest rising and falling rapidly. She was a work of art.
Turning around, Loki slipped on his coat, pleased with himself for causing all that beauty, and ran a finger over his lips, wondering if hers were at least half as soft as they seemed.
Basically the essence of situationships. Where you just can't be jelous 'cause he ain't ya boyfriend. But com'on. Y'all clearly made for eachother. If you agree, you're welcome to apply to the delulu club, I'm president. Anyway, thanks everyone for reading, I accept suggestions 'cause I'm unsure about my ability to write streamier scenes. Let me know if anyone's interested in being added to the tag list.

Time loops. Repeating cycles. Time is a flat circle.
Here’s why I think Loki S2 is repeating the same episode structure as S1.
Let's go through the similarities between S1E1/S2E1 and S1E2/S2E2.
In episode 1, we have:
S1. Loki runs away from the Avengers
S2. Loki runs away from a Mobius who doesn't know him
S1. Loki meets Casey (at reception after appearing through a Time Door)
S2. Loki meets Casey (in a bay after coming through a large rectangular window)
S1. Mobius is investigating in France, 1549, when an agent comes and tells him Loki has appeared
S2. Mobius is looking at the timelines branch on the chronomonitor when Casey comes and tells him Loki has appeared
S1. Loki makes his way through TVA processing
S2. Loki makes his way through the TVA to reach Mobius, timeslipping as he goes
S1. Loki learns about the TVA through a recording (Miss Minutes)
S2. Loki learns about Kang and Ravonna’s relationship through a recording (a tape)
S1. Loki attends court, Mobius appears and interrupts proceedings
S2. B-15 and Mobius attends the war room (and have to give evidence like a court case), Loki appears and interrupts proceedings
S1. Mobius leads a suspicious Loki away from the courtroom
S2. Mobius leads a distressed Loki away from the war room
S1. Mobius reveals the truth of his life to Loki
S2. Loki reveals the truth of Kang and impeding war to Mobius/everyone else
S1. We see Loki affect human history by being D.B. Cooper
S2. We see Loki affect O.B’s history by talking to him in the past
S1. Loki faces the prospect of his own death (by watching the time theatre screen)
S2. Mobius and Loki face the prospect of their own deaths
S1. Loki runs through the TVA looking for the Tesseract
S2. Loki runs through the TVA looking for a Timestick
S1. Loki is distressed he can’t return to his life on the timeline
S2. Loki is distressed Mobius will die and he will be lost to time
S1. B-15 attempts to prune Loki (and prunes a cart instead) and Loki returns to time theatre
S2. Someone prunes Loki and Loki returns to present Mobius
S1. Mobius asks Loki to help find Sylvie
S2. Loki tells Mobius they need to find Sylvie
S1. We see a glimpse of Sylvie in Salina, 1858
S2. We see a glimpse of Sylvie at McDonald’s, 1982 (branched timeline)
In episode 2, we have:
S1. A hunter (C-20) goes missing
S2. A hunter (X-5) goes missing
S1. Loki and Mobius go to a ren faire
S2. Loki and Mobius go to a movie premiere
S1. B-15 points out the “variant” sign on Loki’s jacket
S2. Loki points out the collar on X-5/Brad’s neck
S1. Loki and Mobius work together to find out where Sylvie is
S2. Loki and Mobius work together to find out where Sylvie is
S1. Loki attempts to lie to B-15 and Mobius
S2. Loki attempts to lie to X-5/Brad
S1. Mobius sets Loki with a task (to find where Sylvie is from reading reports) and Loki succeeds
S2. Mobius sets Loki with a task (to find where Sylvie is by interrogating Brad) and Loki succeeds
S1. Loki and Mobius have a cafeteria date talking about existential things
S2. Loki and Mobius have an automat date talking about existential things
S1. Loki and Mobius go to a shopping mall to find Sylvie, a mundane average American place. That place is about to be destroyed by an apocalypse.
S2. Loki and Mobius go to McDonald's to find Sylvie, a mundane average American place. That place is about to be destroyed by a bomb (to prune the branch).
S1. Sylvie is not interested in what Loki has to say, sees him as working for the TVA, and wants to remain focused on her own mission
S2. Sylvie is not interested in what Loki has to say, sees him as working for the TVA, and wants to remain undisturbed in the life she has chosen for herself
S1. Sylvie enchants C-20 to find out where the Time Keepers are
S2. Sylvie enchants X-5/Brad to find out how/where/when the timelines will be bombed
S1. Sylvie sets off hundreds of reset charges in various places on the timeline
S2. General Dox sets off hundreds of bombs on branched timelines
S1. TVA agents and Ravonna become aware of the issue
S2. Casey, B-15 and TVA agents become aware of the issue
S1. Sylvie leaves through a Time Door, Loki follows
S2. Sylvie leaves through a Time Door, Loki doesn't follow
There are some differences, of course, but the main moments are pretty similar.
So, I believe that Loki S2 might be structurally replicating S1 to enforce the idea of the cycle repeating and time loops on the viewer.
If this is the pattern and I’m not completely mad (which is always possible), we should see Loki and Mobius spend most of their time together at the World’s Fair in episode 3 (because Loki has chosen Mobius this time around).
How did I reach this conclusion? The idea of doing things again and again was sealed into the Loki S2 trailers.
And loops are coded into several names: Mobius, Ouroboros, but also Loki. In etymology, one of the meanings behind Loki’s name is loops (and tangled webs).
We also know that He Who Remains said, “Kill me and this all just starts again,” (I’m paraphrasing). He told us that time is a flat circle in his monologue, with the shape of the multiverses stacked on top of each other being a flat circle.
Ragnarok in Norse mythology is also a cycle that is doomed to repeat time and time again.
I’m fully fine to be completely wrong with this idea, and I can see that the episodes are not an exact replica, but it had enough story beats and overall length in time devoted to certain aspects (how long it takes Loki to find out where Sylvie is hiding through detective work in S1 versus how long it takes them to interrogate Brad and discover where Sylvie is in S2) and that’s why I consider it a strong possibility.
Only time will tell (pun very much intended).
And I also fully expect to see us go back and repeat things from S2’s episode 1 and 2 in later episodes. We have to see how Loki is pruned; that’s one of a few unsolved mysteries. And something will continue to push the angst over Loki losing his friends and Sylvie exclaiming that everything has fallen apart (again paraphrasing).

The God of Stories and the Nowhere Man
A Post-Canon look at the characters if Loki
In the years (weeks? decades? seconds?) after the birth of Yggdrasil, there was no mention of the TVA in any part of history. Such has always been the case. The TVA prides itself on anonymity and secrecy, almost as much as it values bureaucracy.
The same cannot be said of some of the figures involved.
———
Also majorly fuck Disney corporation for funding genocide. Go here to support humanitarian aid for Palestine.
B15 has a seat in the war room, defending Loki’s branches against the coming storm. Incredibly skilled tactician, yet humble enough to seek counsel from others, it isn’t long before she’s the de facto head of their little council. She insists that no one stand on ceremony though.
Casey, for his part, finally decided to look into his past. Reading history pages and conspiracy theories about his sacred timeline self is a little unnerving, but also very cool. In his branch he was Frank Morris, a criminal mastermind and an incredible escape artist. He’s always been a desk worker, but even if he never does any field work, he’s gained the confidence to become a proper analyst, a spiritual successor to Mobius.
O.B is recursive as always, but after finally leaving his basement level room, he came up with some improvements to the TVA headquarters. Their tech is now more reliable, their processes more streamlined and efficient, and the wifi has never been faster. He publishes the second edition of the TVA handbook. Victor Timely works well with him, and also suggests that they make better temporal radiation suits, even if they hopefully won’t have to use them anytime soon.
Most of the hunters still haven’t read the new guide, but Casey finally works up the courage to ask for an autograph. O.B writes his phone number as well. Of course, neither of them actually have phones, O.B was trying to be romantic, but the gesture goes over Casey’s head for a bit. Eventually they figure it out. O.B takes him to a bookstore.
Brad is left to go back to his own version of the timeline, but it’s bittersweet. He can’t forget the faces of the people who were depending on him in that cube. Can’t help thinking that it should’ve been him in there, not Dox. They all still exist somewhere on the timeline, but it’s not the same. They’re not coming back in a way that matters. When he goes back to being an actor he uses as much money as he can on humanitarian aid and charitable donations. It doesn’t erase the screams, but they get quieter.
Ravonna is lost at the end of time, and constantly on the run from various Lokis that she pruned a long time ago. Alioth never hurts her though. Even though she stood before it, choosing death instead of a life constantly on the run, it passed over her like a normal mist. In her heart she knows it’s Loki. She thinks he’s being vindictive by letting her survive. Eventually she’ll learn that he’s being gracious, allowing her the chance to change. She reminds him so much of himself sometimes.
Sylvie works at the McDonald’s, and it doesn’t pay much, but she never cares about it. What she wants she can summon or enchant someone into getting it for her, and what she doesn’t want she just doesn’t bother with, because she doesn’t have to anymore. She doesn’t have to do anything she doesn’t want to do ever again. She smiles. Maybe she’ll go on a date or something. Maybe she’ll go on vacation just for the Hel of it. There’s something so beautifully divine in being a creature of habit, a goddess of chaos finally settled, like a puzzle piece rattling into place. Privately, she calls herself the goddess of freedom.
All of them find their places, and make names for themselves, but their stories do not reach far, by intention. They are little things, twining with the rest of the branches.
There are two that find themselves in many branches; The God of Stories, and the Nowhere Man.
The god of stories is an ornate title, and a little dramatic. It’s accurate though. He weaves the lives of many into new branches, shifting with each misplaced footprint. The sheer multitude of the branches is their protection; The Conqueror won’t find them if he doesn’t know where to look.
This weaving has consequences though. One of the branches Loki touches is near the genesis of his own people. Heimdall is there, and he sees the tree, and its branches, and all the nine realms. It bothers him that he cannot see into the center, but alas, some things are beyond even his sight. He knows someone is there, though, and the legend grows in Asgard of the one who sits in the world tree, spinning the threads of fate into stories. Over time, the legend turns into the three frost giantesses known as the Norns.
And he is not idle in his throne either. At length he discovers that he can leave his seat at the center of the tree, but it’s dangerous to do so. His power is tied to the tree, and without him it begins to wilt again. It’s a while before he can leave it for more than a few seconds.
He manages though, and even while separated from the tree he can reach into the fabric of the branches he travels, unwinding them and twisting them as he sees fit. Legends arise around New Asgard that the brother of Thor has returned, with an unknown power in his hands. SWORD looks into it, but they find nothing out of the ordinary. Darcy looks into it and finally meets Thor’s brother. She slaps him, like Jane Foster once did, but she grows to like him eventually. They bond over a shared love of snakes.
And he doesn’t always appear as…himself. Sometimes the god of stories is herself, or theirself. They’ve appeared as a snake, a wolf, and once as a horse, but that story doesn’t need to be elaborated on. The snake is most common though, and some begin to call him Jormungandr. The world serpent.
Eventually Steven Strange takes an interest in whoever has been crawling through the multiverse. Loki drops him in a perpetual fall for an hour, and Strange decides it’s none of his damn business.
Legends of these types have echoing similarities. Solitude is their main theme, occasionally countered by the figure of the nowhere man.
Some stories say he’s the only one who dares to stand against the god of stories. His fate is his own after all, because he exists in no time at all. No story to twist, no time to pause, a Mobius, with no end and no beginning. Once they learn of him, they decide that he must surely be the greatest adversary of Jormungandr. Loki, for his part, finds it absolutely hilarious.
Other types of stories do crop up, though. The nowhere man walks among the people, and can erase your fate with a mere touch. Relentlessly the Norns pursue him. Some say it’s because the god of stories wishes to have his fate pulled away from him, like stars into the void. Some say it’s because Jormungandr craves total authority, and only when he consumes the nowhere man will he be sated. Some even say that they’re partners, companions, a yin and yang of sorts. They say that without one, the other would fall to ruin. This version of the tale emerged after too many instances of someone threatening Mobius where Loki could hear them (and if they’re on one of his branches he can always hear them loud and clear).
The Nowhere Man is a being of pure chaos. The God of Stories is order incarnate. The two of them cackle about the reversal of their roles, as they walk the branches of Yggdrasil. They laugh together often these days, and these days are now all the days, for all time. Always.

Portal to My Heart (Book 3) Chapter Eleven
Loki x Reader
Chapter Eleven: Into the Light
Summary: (Y/N) tries to fix the Loom, but Miss Minutes and Renslayer cause problems.
(Y/N) held the Throughput Multiplier steady as Timely placed his device within it. Casey and Ouroboros looked on anxiously as they waited to see if it fit. It went in perfectly and whirred to life. The group grinned.
            “Spectacular,” said Timely.
            “Hell yeah,” said (Y/N).
Mobius wandered into the room with a cup of hot chocolate from the dispenser outside. (Y/N) furrowed her brow. He looked melancholy and stuck in thought. Before she could speak up, though, Timely spoke.
“What is that?” he asked, staring at the cup.
“This? A little Mobius pick-me-up, courtesy of the hot cocoa machine,” said Mobius.
“Did you say hot cocoa machine?” Timely blinked. He had never heard of such a thing.
            “Yeah,” said Mobius, smiling.
“Mobius, we need your Tempad,” said Ouroboros.
Mobius handed it over while Timely continued, “You have a machine for that?”
“Yeah. You’re interested in this machine,” observed Mobius.
“Weird, this Tempad isn’t connecting well, either,” muttered (Y/N) in frustration. Between the glitches and her head pounding, she was not having a good day.
“About this hot cocoa machine…could I take a look?” asked Timely.
“Can you sit tight for just a second?” said Mobius, noticing (Y/N)’s irritation. “What do you mean?”
“I can take him,” said Hunter D-90, who had been helping them track Dox when she first left the TVA.
“Can you? Okay, Professor, he’ll take you,” said Mobius.
Timely brightened and eagerly followed D-90 out of the room and down the hall to learn about the marvelous hot cocoa machine.
“So, what’s the matter?” asked Mobius.
“OB and Casey’s Tempads weren’t connecting to the system correctly, so we thought maybe it was because of being in R and A and so far down for so long, but then we tried yours, and it’s having the same issue,” said (Y/N). “So OB’s running diagnostics.”
“So strange,” said Ouroboros. “All your files are being corrupted in real time. Did you download unauthorized games again?”
“No,” Mobius defended himself. “I’m not gonna make that mistake twice.”
(Y/N) snorted unceremoniously before focusing. “Well, if it’s not that, it means that something is messing with your Tempad.”
The moment after she spoke, a small animation of Miss Minutes popped up on the screen and said, “Uh-uh-uh.” She was blocking access to the Tempad and the systems.
“Shit,” said (Y/N). “It’s Miss Minutes.”
“She’s taken control of the systems,” said Ouroboros.
“That would explain why the Tempads weren’t working,” said (Y/N).
“Grab the multiplier and let’s get Timely!” said Mobius urgently.
Ouroboros picked up the multiplier and followed with Casey out after Mobius and (Y/N). They turned the corner to the hot cocoa machine, but Timely wasn’t there. There was just a cup with hot cocoa spilled over the floor. Sylvie and Loki walked down the corridor at the same time and frowned upon seeing them.
            “What’s wrong?” asked Loki.
            “Timely’s gone,” said Mobius.
“And Miss Minutes is taking control of the TVA’s systems,” said (Y/N).
The elevator dinged, and B-15 walked out with a despondent face. “Dox and her team are dead.”
“What?” Everyone’s heads snapped to her.
            She nodded sadly. “Yes.”
“It’s got to be Renslayer,” muttered Sylvie. “I should have just killed her.”
The TVA rumbled as the Loom strained, and (Y/N) winced as her headache surged to life with each flicker of the lights.
“Is the multiplier ready?” asked B-15.
“Theoretically. We haven’t had time to test it, but without Timely, it doesn’t matter,” said Ouroboros “Without his aura, I can’t open the blast doors. We’re locked in.”
“Okay, well, we gotta find out who took him back to the timeline,” said Mobius. “Where else would they have taken him?”
Loki knelt and picked up D-90’s Timestick. “No. Renslayer doesn’t want him. She wants the TVA. They’re still here.”
(Y/N) nodded. “This is where she can take control again. She’s not leaving. This is her attack on the TVA.”
“Find them,” said Mobius. “We’ll make sure we’re ready for the Loom.” He ran one way in the corridor to clear the way, and (Y/N), Loki, and Mobius headed to the elevators on the other side. B-15 protected Ouroboros and Casey on their way to the Loom monitoring station in case Mobius came across Renslayer or anyone else and needed backup.
A boom echoed through the TVA as the Loom began to break down, and (Y/N) stumbled as the pressure in her head grew.
“Are you alright?” asked Loki and Sylvie simultaneously.
“Yeah, yeah, I’m fine,” said (Y/N), gritting her teeth. “I just need to focus.”
Sylvie and Loki exchanged a look. They had no idea why (Y/N)’s head kept hurting so much, but it was concerning, and they worried that it had to do with the Loom and the TVA. If it did, that meant she was in danger of being injured in some way. They wouldn’t stand for that. So, Loki and Sylvie ran forward even faster beside (Y/N), determined to find Timely and put a stop to the Loom’s deterioration.
On the way to the elevator, another fallen Timestick lay as a remnant of a hunter’s death. (Y/N) narrowed her eyes. Renslayer’s plans were getting more and more people killed already. She grabbed it as she ran, determined to take on Renslayer and stop further pain and suffering just because of her desire for power.
Loki pressed the button to call the elevator furiously as the PA system reported that it was time to go to the nearest evacuation point. (Y/N) frowned. She recognized those words, but she had no time to think about that.
The doors opened slowly, and (Y/N) and Loki sighed in frustration while Sylvie forced them open and stepped in. Above them, a security camera swiveled to watch them.
(Y/N) and Loki backed up towards the elevator, but the doors slammed before they could get in.
“Loki! (Y/N)!” shouted Sylvie in alarm, slamming the button to open the doors.
“Access denied,” said Miss Minutes’s sing-song voice.
            “Sylvie, you okay?” called (Y/N).
“Yeah. I just hate that clock,” snapped Sylvie.
“She’s trying to slow us down,” said Loki.
“Take the stairs,” said Sylvie. “I’ll meet you up there!”
“Stay safe!” called (Y/N) as she and Loki turned and ran for the stairs.
“Warning, total Loom failure imminent,” said the PA system.
“Yeah, yeah, got it,” muttered (Y/N) as her headache grew.
The pair kicked the door of the stairs open and raced upwards. They burst out on the next floor. The hall was familiar, and as they slowed in front of the corridor of the elevator, a phone rang. They froze. (Y/N) reached out and touched Loki’s arm in surprise.
In front of them were another (Y/N) and Loki, not wearing the TVA jackets, looking harried and worried. The other Loki had a familiar timer in his hand, and they stood faced a ringing telephone and the elevator.
It was them from when they’d been trying to correct their time-slipping. This was the future they’d traveled to. That’s why there had been so much confusion and chaos and worry in the TVA. It was because of the Loom still breaking down.
The elevator doors cracked open, and Sylvie’s face appeared just like it had to them when they time-slipped (and how it was currently to their time-slipping versions. Past-selves. Other selves? (Y/N) already had a headache, so she decided not to think more).
(Y/N) and Loki looked at each other and down to their pruning sticks. They knew what they had to do. They ignited their Timesticks and walked forward quietly.
Sylvie forced the doors open and looked out. “There you are,” she said in relief.
            “Sy—” began (Y/N)’s past self.
(Y/N) and Loki pressed their Timesticks into their past selves’ backs, and they were pruned. Their old selves groaned, and the other (Y/N) tried to turn to see who was behind her, but the moment she caught a glimpse of the figures—her future self—she was pruned and disappeared.
Sylvie’s face morphed to one of confusion upon seeing another pair of (Y/N) and Lokis.
“We told you we saw you when we were time-slipping,” said (Y/N).
Sylvie’s eyes widened as she realized what she had claimed was ridiculous was true. (Y/N) extended a hand and helped Sylvie climb out of the elevator while the phone continued to ring.
This time, Loki got to answer. “Hello?” he said.
“About time, what’s taking you guys so long?” said Ouroboros.
(Y/N) and Sylvie leaned in so they could hear everything, and (Y/N) huffed.
“OB?” said Loki, still surprised that this had been what was happening when they time-slipped to the future in their past (what a sentence to think made sense, and yet that was his life).
“Hurry,” said Mobius as a particularly loud rumble shook the TVA, and (Y/N) winced and massaged her temple.
“Miss Minutes is sabotaging everything,” said (Y/N) in frustration. “It’s slowing us down.”
            “What?” said Mobius.
“I could take her offline and reboot the whole system,” suggested Ouroboros.
“Yeah, yeah, yeah, reboot the whole system!” urged Mobius.
“But we’ll lose the entire safety system,” said Ouroboros.
“So what?” said Mobius. “What are we gonna lose at this point?”
“The security protocols will go down,” said Ouroboros.
            “Like what?” said Mobius.
“Like the dampeners that prevent people from using magic at the TVA,” said Ouroboros.
(Y/N), Loki, and Sylvie’s heads snapped up to look at each other.
“We would have to turn that off, too,” said Ouroboros.
“Turn it off!” shouted (Y/N), Loki, and Sylvie.
Ouroboros slammed his hand down on the button, and the lights of the TVA flashed violently. The system shut off, and the emergency lights flickered on, barely there as the Loom surged power through the building.
(Y/N), Loki, and Sylvie raised their hands. Green light collected in Sylvie and Loki’s hands, and (Y/N)’s veins and eyes glowed a faint blue. She smirked.
“Great news. I’m angry enough to make a portal,” she said.
            Loki grinned. “We’ve got Renslayer.”
They heard footsteps in the dark, and they retreated to the shadows. It was Brad, holding a Timestick. The coward had joined Renslayer while Dox and her people died deciding to do the right thing.
“It’s all you guys,” whispered (Y/N).
Loki grinned spoke, his words coming from every shadow in the hall. “What do you say, Brad? Fancy a rematch?”
Brad froze. Recovering quickly, he flipped his Timestick around and prepared to use it. Sylvie stepped out behind him, put her hands on his head, and finished him. Green light filtered into his head, and his mind was hers.
“Renslayer and Timely are in the War Room,” said Sylvie. Brad stood at attention beside her. “We’ve got our distraction.”
“We’ll go in one minute,” said (Y/N), holding up her hand.
            “Let’s go,” said Loki, smirking.
l
Renslayer watched Brad reenter the War Room after she had sent him to check out the situation. “X-5, what’s going on?” she demanded. At the table next to her, Timely held his satchel tightly.
Brad (controlled by Sylvie) walked in and spun the Timestick around. “This is cozy,” said Enchanted Brad. “Come here for a second.” He took Renslayer’s hand and pulled her away from Timely. “Come here. Come here. Come here.” She looked at him in confusion.
Behind Timely, a blue portal opened up. (Y/N) grinned and waved to Renslayer. “Hi,” she chirped.
“No!” Renslayer lunged towards the portal, but Enchanted Brad grabbed her sharply and pulled her back.
“Victor, come on, time to go!” said Loki, running in through the door and grabbing Timely. He urged the man towards the portal as (Y/N) held it open. Timely jumped through, and Renslayer fought against Enchanted Brad.
“This time, you’re not coming back to cause trouble,” said Enchanted Brad, turning on the pruning stick. He pressed it onto Renslayer as the portal closed, and she disappeared from the TVA as her chance at power disappeared simultaneously.
Sylvie ended the enchantment, and she, Loki, and (Y/N) pushed Timely down the corridor.
            “Which way, wizard?” asked Timely.
            “This way. Elevator!” shouted Sylvie.
“You saved my life!” cried Timely.
“Of course,” said (Y/N) as they ran. “Time for you to return the favor!”
She nearly shoved him into the elevator and slammed her hand down on the button to get them back down to the R and A floor.
“He’s here!” shouted (Y/N), dragging Timely into the Loom monitoring room.
“Come on, hurry, right here,” said Ouroboros, pulling out the aura reader.
“Victor, this way,” said Loki. He looked at Casey. “What do we need to do?”
“The Throughput Multiplier is waiting in the airlock,” said Casey. “But first, we need Mr. Timely’s aura screened so we can get the blast doors open.”
“Just put your head in the scanner,” said (Y/N).
            Timely coughed. “Is that safe?”
“It’s alright,” said Loki. He looked at Timely intensely. “You’ll be fine.”
Timely nodded stiffly and took his glasses off.
“Here, let me hold those,” said Mobius.
“Sir,” acknowledged Timely. He took a deep breath and pushed his head into the aura scanner.
It whirred, and an automated voice said, “Welcome, He Who Remains.”
The blast doors rose to reveal the Loom sparking with energy as it strained against the infinitely growing branches of timelines. The pressure in (Y/N)’s head sparked, and she winced and held onto the table behind her. It was growing unbearable, and the energy from outside pricked at her skin.
“It’s worse than I thought,” said Ouroboros. “We have to move fast. Who’s it gonna be?”
“I’ll do it. I’ll put the suit on,” said Loki. He was willing to sacrifice himself for his friends.
“No, I’ll do it,” said (Y/N).
            “Absolutely not,” said Loki.
            “No, no way,” said Sylvie.
“Come on, we have to go,” said B-15.
“It should be me.” Timely cut through the chaos.
“No, you don’t have to do this,” said (Y/N).
“But I do,” said Timely. “Something wrong could happen, and I know how the Throughput Multiplier works.”
“Okay,” said (Y/N), and the others nodded.
“Okay, okay, let’s go.” Ouroboros grabbed Timely and pulled him towards the antechamber. “No time to argue. Hurry. Follow me. Listen. Get in, get suited up. When those doors open, get down the gangway as fast as you can. Load the Multiplier, launch it, and get back. Got it?”
            “Got it,” said Timely.
            “Okay,” said Ouroboros.
“Okay,” said Timely. He smiled at Loki and (Y/N). “Time to be brave.”
            “Good luck,” said (Y/N).
Timely nodded and descended to the antechamber. Everyone stood by solemnly and gazed out the windows at the gangway and the Loom as it rumbled with energy.
“How long will he have?” asked Sylvie.
            “Not long,” said Ouroboros.
“He’ll make it,” said Loki, though he was doubtful.
“Yeah, I don’t know about these radiation levels,” murmured Mobius. “It’s worse than when I was out there.”
“He’ll make it,” said (Y/N), hoping her certainty was enough even if she had no control over it.
“Ready.” Timely’s voice appeared over the radio.
“Come on, let’s go, let’s go!” called Mobius.
“Here we go,” said Timely, and the doors to the gangway opened. He ran out, everyone held their breath, and the radiation swept over him.
His scream was cut short as he turned to spaghetti in an instant.
The watchers froze, and (Y/N) covered her mouth in horror. Timely was dead. She looked at Loki, and he could only look back in realization of what was about to happen. The TVA was going to be destroyed. And everything else…was doomed.
“What happened?” questioned Mobius. “What-Where is he? What happened?”
            “It’s over,” said Sylvie despondently.
            “Is he dead?” murmured B-15.
“The Temporal Radiation is just too high,” said Ouroboros.
            “What happened?” asked Mobius.
“I don’t know. It wasn’t me,” said Casey.
Behind Loki and (Y/N), a chaotic discussion of what went wrong raged, but it meant nothing. None of them could fix what had happened, and the Loom was still breaking apart.
(Y/N)’s headache intensified as the Loom strained against the onslaught of timelines.
            Boom!
The Loom exploded in a single moment, and a wave of bright temporal energy flew outwards. The golden light bore down upon them in a storm of destruction.
(Y/N)’s head pounded, and she reached for Loki’s hand. She held it tightly and turned to him. Black spots appeared in her vision as her head split open in pain. Loki sucked in a breath as he gazed at her. The light was nearly blinding, but he could still see that her eyes and veins were blazing gold like the timelines.
“Loki, I think I need to—”
“You don’t, you don’t,” said Loki. He didn’t want to hear something that meant goodbye, not after everything they’d been through.
“I love you.” (Y/N) pulled him close and kissed him.
Loki’s eyes widened before closing, and he passionately kissed her back.
And then the light rolled over them, and everything ceased to exist.

‘Loki’: Tom Hiddleston on Finding The God of Mischief’s New Family with the TVA
"Maybe there’s more burden and less glory in the purpose this time.”
Tumblr media
In the first episode of Season 1 of Marvel Studio’s Loki, Tom Hiddleston’s mischievous scamp is plucked from the Sacred Timeline, brought before a judge at the Time Variance Authority, sentenced to be pruned for his actions, and only saved at the last second by curious TVA Agent Mobius who needs Loki’s help. Loki, being Loki, is less than thrilled about everything going on and in true Loki fashion snarls, “I’m going to burn this place to the ground.”
Fast forward a little bit — one trip to the Void and the end of time later — and Loki’s singing a different tune. He no longer wants to burn the Time Variance Authority and everyone inside its walls to the ground; now he’s trying to save it.
Season 1 ends with Loki arriving back at the TVA but things look much, much different than when he left them. After some painful Time Slipping back and forth, Loki realizes that he’s being transported through the past, present, and future of the TVA…but that’s still not the biggest headache on his hands. Thanks to Sylvie killing He Who Remains, no one is regulating the timelines, let alone the Temporal Loom which is overloaded and very close to bursting. Loki, now more than ever, is under a time crunch to figure out what is happening and stop it before any more catastrophic events take place.
“The stakes are higher, the clock is running down, and reality is going to be destroyed including everyone in it and everyone he loves, so Loki is propelled by this momentum and this urgency to try to put the brakes on the dissolution and destruction of reality,” returning star Tom Hiddleston explains. Not only is he trying to save the timelines, but more importantly, he’s trying to save his newfound family — Mobius, Hunter B-15, Casey, and everyone else at the TVA.
“Loki always struggled with family in the MCU, but he’s found a new family in the TVA,” Hiddleston continues. “In the breakdown of understanding himself and having his sense of self opened up, broken down, and rebuilt by Mobius and his colleagues at the TVA, there’s a new awareness and a capacity to connect with other people.”
It’s a big 180° shift, considering Loki first walked the TVA halls threatening destruction, and now his only goal is to make sure the TVA doesn’t explode.
“He’s a character who, as long as I’ve played him has been searching for meaning,” Hiddleston adds. “Even when he wasn’t aware of it, he was full of grievance and anger and emotional destabilization because he didn’t feel he had purpose or meaning. He was looking for meaning in the wrong places and now I think he’s found a way of giving himself purpose, which is to try to reorganize, to help Mobius and Hunter B-15 and the TVA.”
It’s a major shift for the character as viewers dive into the new season, and Hiddleston knows it, “If Season 1 was about self-awareness and self-acceptance, Season 2 is about taking responsibility and trying to find a new purpose. Maybe there’s more burden and less glory in the purpose this time.”
Either way, Hiddleston is thrilled to be putting back on Loki’s TVA jacket.
“I can’t believe I’m back. Season 1 felt like a new beginning because we were stripping Loki of everything that was familiar to him it was taking him away from, from the timeline and Asgard and Thor and Odin and all the things that I was familiar with. It’s a new beginning, a new story, a new chapter, and hoping that the audience will accept, and you know and be inspired by our new story… Let’s see if we can do it all again but better.”

I need a word, but I don’t know which one. This trail of thoughts was inspired by a post where someone discovered the nice and cool guy he knew was secretly a serial killer, and how upsetting this revelation was.
So, I was thinking about the Loki series (yes, again), and how it characterized the major players and I noticed something I was tempted to call „one dimensional“, but sadly „one dimensional“ is defined as „ a character who lacks depth and who never seems to learn or grow“. And while I do accuse Larry and co of many things, they do have an arc over the season. So, that’s not the word.
I tried „lack of complexity“ next, but that’s basically the same, so here is the thing I observed. Perhaps you can tell me what it is called.
I am thinking about a character being a „mix“ of good and bad things, in contrast to a character whose facets are all running parallel. Picture a character with different aspects; let’s say their work ethics, their personal life, their hobbies. Imagine someone who is always throughout in their job, polite and well mannered, and has orderly hobbies. They might even change over time, but when they do, all traits show change in the same direction. They start stealing from the workplace, yell at their family and utilize illegal means in their hobbies. On the other side I see characters like Loki in Thor 1, who has many facets:
1. his intentions for the well-being of his people
2. his behavior towards Odin
3. his behavior towards Frigga
4. his relationship to Thor
5. his intentions for jotunheim and it’s people
Over the movie some of those facets change, but not all, making him a complex character, but even without considering that his behavior is different depending on the recipient. This is still the case at the end of the movie. Number 1 & 3 stay fine, 2 & 4 change to the worse, and 5. goes from „i don’t care for them“ to „kill then all“. Another example for this kind of characterization would be Tony stark (after his arc in IM1), who does his best to fight for the greater good, but can be a real burden to those who care about him.
In contrast, Larry‘s traits run parallel. In episodes 1-2 I see this:
1. his behavior towards people that are weaker than him (the mongols, Casey): condescending, threatening
2. his behavior towards people who are more powerful: manipulating, aggressive
3. his attitude towards people: good to be ruled, but not more
4. his attitude towards the time keepers: should be overthrown and replaced by Loki.
He does change over the season, so I cannot call him one-dimensional in the classical sense, but even after the change all traits point in the same direction
1. his behavior toward a people who are weaker than he is (TVA agents in the „new“ TVA): should be protected
2. his behavior towards people who are more powerful (sylvie, the new mobius): we have to work together, treating them with respect or submissiveness, pleading for support
3. his attitude towards people (TVA agents in the „old“ tva, everyone who HWR‘s plans affect): should be protected, consequences for them need to be taken into consideration
4. his attitude towards the ruling person: need to be considered, loki doesn’t want to rule anymore.
I see the same tendency with Sylvie, who changes from a) a badass fighter who can do everything on her own and b) someone who is harsh in conversation to a) someone who needs and accepts help and b) someone who starts opening up in conversation.
A noteworthy exception from this style is Mobius who is show as understanding and welcoming in his personal interactions but is totally okay with killing innocents by pruning. However, at the end of the season his facets are in parallel, too, since he is still verbally welcoming but now against mass murder.
Anyway, I think that is something to consider when writing a character. Real people are seen differently. The dragon-like school teacher can be someone else‘s beloved friend. The lawful and stern father might have been a hippy once. People are multi-faceted.

This is the Best Part to Play (Lokius fic)
Word Count: 6,393
Lokius Oneshot
Diverges from Season 2, Episode 4 of the Loki (2021-?) series. Some backstory:
After the Time Loom destroyed itself, Loki came to with six Avengers in his face in New York, 2012, after the Temporal Loom overloaded. He panicked, spilled the beans about Thanos, and realized he had just set his timeline on a crash course to branching without the Endgame time travel even interfering yet. Sure enough, the TVA came to prune the branch, but B-15 was one of the hunters again. Loki restored her memory and got the other Minutemen off their backs, but Loki realized that if he wanted to go back to the TVA and try to stop He Who Remains again, his timeline has to be pruned. He did so, warning the Avengers to take the Tesseract and run from Alioth, then left with B-15 who set a reset charge.
Back at the TVA, B-15 bypassed him through processing and made up a lie about Loki being so uncooperative that she just pruned him to save time. During a more proper reunion, B-15 explained that she essentially went through the same thing: she woke up in her timeline, right before it branched, was arrested, had her memory wiped, and was made into a TVA hunter.
Loki and B-15 find O.B., whose memory was left intact, and Casey, who was grateful that he was brought back. O.B. and Casey are working on crafting new tech so they can try again, and B-15 is making sure that no one has caught onto them. Sylvie is unaccounted for. Now it's time to get Mobius back.
"Excuse me?"
Excuse? Like Mobius needed an excuse for a break. He had been staring at paperwork for too long.
He looked up and saw a tall man peaking around the walls of his cubicle. An analyst, but not one Mobius recognized.
"Agent Mobius, right?"
"That's me," he affirmed, letting the file he had been reading fall to his desk and facing the analyst. "Something wrong?"
"I was wondering if I could... run something by you," the analyst requested, gesturing behind him away from the desk. "I was just transferred here, so I'm still new to this sector, but I've come across something that I'd like to take higher up. Before I do that, though, I'd really like to get a second pair of eyes on this. I've been asking around and everyone says you're the person to go to."
If Mobius could hear the voice screaming in his head, he didn't pay attention to it. "Well, I'm flattered. Not sure if I'm your guy, but I can take a look." He rose from his chair and went with the analyst back down the aisle. "What did you say your name was again?"
"Loki, Agent Loki." He held his hand out to Mobius to shake as they walked.
Mobius didn't hesitate to shake it. "Huh. Nice to meet you. You know, there's this guy on the Sacred Timeline with the name 'Loki,' too," he said, tilting his head. "A real troublemaker. You heard of them?"
"A couple times," Loki said, glancing over his shoulder behind them. "A real piece of work, if you ask me. We've gotten so many of their Variants recently."
"I know, that's what makes it cool. I mean, come on. How crazy do you have to be to keep branching like that?"
"Pretty crazy."
"Yeah." Mobius wondered why he hadn't met this analyst yet. He seemed like a nice guy. Easy to talk to. It was like they had already known each other for years or something. "So what's this thing I'm looking at?"
"It's, uh..." he looked around again. Mobius couldn't tell what he was looking for, but he didn't ask either. "I think there's a weakness in our strategy."
"A weakness? Like what?"
"A loophole. A way for Variants to hide on the Sacred Timeline without being detected. This way," he said, pointing Mobius down a hallway that was less crowded.
"That's, that's impossible," Mobius argued. "Variants set off a Nexus event everywhere they go. You can't take five steps without creating a branch down there."
"Unless you know where to go," Loki explained, "and more specifically, when to go there. I know it sounds crazy, but I promise this will make sense."
Mobius shrugged. He wasn't sold on this yet, but that's why he was here, right? "Okay, so... what am I looking at?"
"I think it'd be easier if I showed you." He pulled a TemPad from his pocket and held it up. "May I?"
Well, that certainly didn't clear anything up, but he didn't object. Loki opened a time door and held a hand out. "After you."
"Do I need a field vest for this?"
"No, no need for that."
"...alright." This new guy was... interesting, to say the least. Maybe that's why he got transferred. Mobius walked through the door with no idea what to expect on the other side.
He tried to ignore the growing headache he felt. It was like there was someone trapped in his head, banging on the wall separating them, screaming to be let out. To do something. It was all... muffled, and if Mobius was honest with himself (which he didn't let himself do) it had been going on for a while. It hadn't been this annoying until now, though. Maybe he needed to get it checked out.
On the other side of the time door, Mobius found himself standing in Pompeii in the year 79 AD. He took a look around at the people milling about, all of whom were calm and unbothered and, most importantly, alive. Mount Vesuvius hadn't blown yet, but Mobius had a feeling it would soon. After all, there's only one reason why Pompeii was so important in the grand scheme of history.
"I'll say this much, you definitely know how to pick tourists spots," Mobius said. Behind him, Loki stepped through the time door right before it closed. "Not sure what this has to do with your loophole theory, but-"
A hand grabbed his wrist. Anyone standing in front of Mobius would have seen his eyes begin to glow green.
Loki exhaled, breathing a sigh of relief. Getting Mobius away from the TVA had been the risky part. Now that they were in an apocalypse, they were undetectable, but he could still feel his heart racing in his chest. Restoring B-15 and Casey's memory had been quick and easy, but for some reason, Loki couldn't just trust that it would work a third time. As long as he held on, though, as long as he didn't let go, there was hope. As soon as he retreated out of Mobius's mind, there was a chance that Mobius would still not know him and everything was about to fall apart.
But not yet. Not yet.
"Mobius," he said, his voice low despite the lack of present danger. "I hope you can hear me. I hope you're still in there, somewhere."
No response. There wouldn't be a response until Loki let go, but he couldn't yet. He couldn't let go of his hope yet.
"I don't know what they did to you," he went on, lowering his gaze. "I don't know how long it's been, but I'm almost sure it's been longer for you than it has been for me. All I know is that I found my way back. I'm back, Mobius." Loki let out another shaky breath. "We can try again. I don't know what we did wrong last time, but we can figure it out and fix it, but we need you back, Mobius. The others are back, too. B-15, Casey, O.B., they're all back again. We have another chance."
All he could do was stare at the back of Mobius's head, but it was better than looking him in the face and risk seeing an empty, blank, unrecognizing stare in return. "I hope you're still in there, somewhere. We need you back, Mobius." That wasn't it, though, was it? Not all of it. "I need you back. Please," he whispered closing his eyes. "Please, come back."
Moment of truth. Either pruning his own timeline was worth it for this exact moment, or everything was about to fall apart again, except maybe even worse than the first time.
Loki let go of his mind. He felt Mobius relax and regain control of his body, and he heard his breathing quicken and stagger. He couldn't look. If Mobius turned around and still didn't know him, he didn't know what he was going to do and he wasn't ready to face that reality yet. Loki looked down instead, and he slowly released Mobius's wrist.
Except Mobius was quicker than him. Just as Loki was about to pull his hand back, rough fingers caught his and clutched onto them.
His hope was back, and it was shining all the brighter now. He looked up, daring to take a chance on hope.
He saw Mobius staring back at him, staring like he had just woken up from a nightmare. Staring like he was afraid. Staring like the world was crashing down around him (and in his head, it might as well have been) and he was looking at the last thing still standing. "Loki?"
"Mobius!"
And then everything was okay. It was impossible to tell if Loki pulled Mobius in for a hug or if Mobius pulled in Loki, but it didn't really matter in the end, did it?
The wall separating Mobius's memory from his consciousness had been shattered the moment Loki enchanted him, but that also meant the screaming voice was let loose too. Along with a flood of memories crashing into place came the gut-wrenching realization of what all of it meant. His Nexus event. His sons, who were both gone along with his timeline. The memory wipe. The transition to being an analyst and... Mobius's eyes shot wide. The work. The targeting. The pruning. Hundreds of years of it.
"Mobius?"
I did that. I did it all over again.
His legs were buckling underneath him, and the only thing keeping Mobius upright was Loki, dropping to his knees so he could catch Mobius as he lost the ability to stand. Somehow, his hands still worked, and now he was gripping Loki's jacket in his fists so tightly he was half-dragging Loki down with him.
"Mobius, are you alright?"
"Oh, god," he mumbled, but it was only just beginning. "It happened again. All of it, all over again. The Sacred Timeline... it's back. It's all back, and nothing- nothing happened, we're all back at the beginning-"
"I know, it's okay-"
"They didn't do anything! They didn't even know and we just sent them to the End with nothing and we didn't care!"
"You couldn't have known, this isn't your fault-"
"I did."
The screaming was only getting louder. It wasn't just Mobius panicking internally (though that was certainly happening as well).
No. No, that was too easy.
"I knew," he said, just barely above a whisper. He pulled back off of Loki just enough so he could think. "I knew when I got back. I was punted right back to my Nexus event, right before it, and I knew it was coming. The Minutemen came in and I knew who they were, I knew what they were going to do."
The screaming wasn't just because Mobius realized what horrors he helped the TVA commit. It wasn't just because his mind was being flooded with memories of the previous loop. It wasn't just because they failed to modify the Time Loom before it overloaded and the TVA had been destroyed.
"They wouldn't listen. I tried to tell them we were all Variants but they wouldn't listen. I was trying to get back but I didn't know how and I didn't know where you were, nobody would listen to what I was saying, they wouldn't listen-!"
His only comfort in that moment was Loki, hugging him tightly and blocking out everything else, but not even that could silence the storm in his head. He knew. He knew what was happening as he was dragged before a judge-before RENSLAYER-and there was nothing he could do about it. The voice in his head wasn't just screaming.
It was mourning.
It was finally giving a voice to the last remnant of Mobius who knew what he had lost, who knew what the truth was, and who knew what was coming. It had been silenced for so long, but now it demanded to be heard.
I LOST MY FRIENDS! it shouted to the wind. No one heard it, but better to shout at nothing than to be eaten alive by it. I LOST THE ONLY CHANCE WE HAD TO SAVE THE MULTIVERSE! I LOST THE ONLY THING I KNEW, THE ONLY THING I HAD LEFT! I LOST MY BOYS AGAIN! MY SONS, THEY WERE SENT TO THEIR DEATHS AND ALL I COULD DO WAS WATCH! I LOST EVERYTHING I KNEW ABOUT THE TRUTH! I LOST MY MEMORY! I LOST MY COMPASSION FOR VARIANTS, I FORGOT THAT I WAS ONE! I LOST EVERYTHING I WAS FIGHTING FOR! I BECAME PART OF THE PROBLEM AGAIN AND I NEVER WOULD HAVE REMEMBERED BUT! I! KNEW!! I KNEW AND I COULDN'T DO ANYTHING!!!
Vesuvius might have blown up then and there but Mobius wouldn't have been able to move. His guilt gutted him, leaving his chest hollow like there was something missing. The TVA didn't just take his memory. It took away his understanding, his autonomy. It took away the fight from inside him, the desire to fix what was broken and hurt. I wasn't ME, Mobius finally realized. That was the worst part of it all. He had become a shell of the person he had become when the Time Loom overloaded.
What did I do?
The voice in his head, having finally been able to have their say, fell quiet, but the memories didn't. Everything he had done came back to him. All the Variants he had seen pruned, all the cases he had analyzed, all the timelines that had been destroyed... he saw all of it. 'I've seen the horror waiting for people when they get pruned, and there's nothing necessary about that.' Hadn't he said that? How could he have forgotten that? How could he... how could he have stood by and let that happen to anyone?
It was too late now. They were gone, or at best running around with a bunch of Loki Variants trying to dodge Alioth. Everything was back to the way it started. The TVA, the Sacred Timeline, and probably the Loom, it was all where it had been when they started putting the pieces together. All their work, all their sacrifices and their risk amounted to nothing in the end. Nothing had changed, no one had been saved.
Until now.
Loki had found his way back. No doubt, he had caused some mischief in order to retain his memory and masquerade as an analyst long enough to get Mobius here where the TVA couldn't detect them. They couldn't detect that Mobius had his memory back, and they definitely couldn't detect that Loki was hugging him, shielding him from the rest of the world.
He didn't know what Mobius was thinking, but he didn't have to. Mobius was shaking so hard that, if he hadn't been clinging onto Loki so tightly, it felt like he might fall apart at the seams. It was as if Loki was the only thing keeping him in one piece. Loki held still, grounding him like an anchor at sea (that was, if somehow the ocean could be inside the ship).
If he was honest, he needed to hold Mobius together as much as Mobius needed him to do the same. The TVA couldn't possibly notice them here, but that didn't alleviate the fear that someone would barge into 79 AD and rip the two of them apart again. If that happened, who knew how long it would be before they could regain their memory and find each other again. Loki didn't want to think about it, so he cradled Mobius's head with one hand and held him closer, hiding him from the powers that be. Don't take this from me. Not now. Not when I've just got him back.
Slowly, the shaking slowed. Mobius was still holding on, but it was less like a drowner holding onto a lifeline and more like a sailor hanging onto a mast. "It's okay," Loki whispered, hoping his voice would further ground Mobius in the present. "It wasn't your fault. They took that choice from you. This isn't your fault."
"But I knew," he cried, blinking away tears. "I knew it."
Loki wanted to erase all of Mobius's guilt, to relieve the pain of the truth, but he would have to take Mobius's memory again and he refused to do that. "I wish it wasn't true. I wish I could wipe it all away and tell you something better, but I can't. We couldn't stop it."
We couldn't stop it.
Saying it out loud made it real and irreversible, but it also made it seem a little smaller. They didn't do this. Mobius and Loki hadn't brought this to the multiverse willingly, and neither had any of their friends. They failed to stop it, but they tried. Oh, how they tried, and it hadn't been enough. Somehow, putting into words made it an easier reality to face.
No, they couldn't stop it, but now they knew. Now they could confront their failure and maybe, just maybe, do something about it.
Finally, finally, Mobius seemed to find some peace. The tension in his body slowly released, and he melted into the embrace. Loki bowed his head, shutting his eyes and just enjoying the touch, nothing else. Mobius was back. He was hurting and shaken, but he knew Loki again and that was enough for right now. Loki leaned his head against Mobius, and if he noticed that Loki's lips were brushing the side of his head, Mobius didn't say anything about it.
~
The solution to all stress was food. It was foolproof.
Pompeii fast-food restaurants looked nothing like their twenty-first century equivalents, but the owners let the strange men in strange clothes order and take a seat with only mild suspicion. It was the best Loki and Mobius could hope for, really.
The soup was decent too.
It kept them busy so speaking wasn't really necessary. The volcano still had a while before it was set to erupt, so neither of them were in a rush. Sitting together again felt so familiar, so mundane. How many times had they done this before?
Mobius was nearly done with his bowl when he finally asked, "I'm guessing you enchanted the Minutemen when they came to your timeline?"
Nodding, Loki scraped up the last of his soup. He had eaten fast than Mobius had. "B-15 was one of them again. When I saw her but she didn't recognize me, I realized what was happening. It was a last-ditch attempt. I still can barely believe it worked."
"So she's back too?"
"Yes. She's covering for my case. I assume she's going to make something up about how I was an unruly prisoner and she decided to prune me to save everyone the trouble."
"Did you manage to salvage your timeline?"
His face fell as he shook his head. "There was no way to protect it without raising suspicion. Of course, by that time, I had already done too much."
"What do you mean?"
"I panicked. I tried to explain what was about to happen to the Avengers before I realized what I was doing. Just telling them about the TVA and the multiverse was enough to cause a branch." Loki's eyes unfocused as he looked at the ground. "I gave them the Tessaract before we set the reset charge. Told them to stay away from Alioth. It was all I could do."
Mobius's face quickly adopted the same glazed-over look. "Yeah. I mean, who knows? It might be enough to give them a fighting chance."
"We'll know soon enough. If they do survive, I have a feeling we'll see them before long."
They fell into silence again. Loki was done with his meal, but he didn't make any motion to rise from his seat.
"I had kids."
Loki stared at Mobius, but his eyes were unfocused, staring off into space. "Two boys, little kids. Their mom was long gone, it was just us, and..."
He didn't need to go on. They were variants. They knew perfectly well what had happened to their timelines and everyone in it. If those children were pruned, they were gone.
"Did they understand what was happening?"
Mobius shook his head. "I told them to go in the house and close the curtains. Didn't want them to see it, but the Mintutemen said they were under arrest too."
"Even if you were the Variant?"
"That's what I tried to tell them. They were just kids, they had no idea what was wrong. They didn't even do anything. It was my Nexus event, not theirs, but they still..." Mobius sighed, shoving away the rest of his food.
They sat there for a moment, until suddenly, Mobius stood up without warning and walked off.
Loki blinked, then rose and followed him. "Mobius?"
No response. The restaurant staff, who had been trying to learn more about their strange guests but couldn't understand their language, watched one lead the other down the street, away from the center of town and out of sight. Oh, well. There went their free entertainment for the day.
"Mobius!" he called again, weaving around other people passing by. "Mobius, where are you going?"
"I don't know, anywhere!" he said defeatedly, throwing his hands up. "Not like it really matters, does it? Nothing matters in an apocalypse!"
He knew he wasn't going to get away from Loki, he could catch up eventually, but he needed to get away from... something. He had to. He couldn't bear to sit still because if he did that, he could hear his sons screaming for him to help them all over again.
Just as quickly as he had started, Mobius abruptly stopped walking in the middle of the street, his head hanging low. Loki just barely stopped in time, nearly plowing right into Mobius.
Pompeii moved all around them like a river coursing around a stone in the middle of the current. Smoke was rising in the distance. Loki and Mobius were in this world but not part of it, and if their suits didn't give that away, the distance between them and everyone else did. You might have thought they were on fire by how no one else was willing to come close to them.
Loki reached out and touched Mobius's arm lightly, just to tell him he was there. It helped. Mobius made half a turn, then finally spoke again: "How many times do you think we've done this?"
No answer came, but Mobius didn't wait for one. "How many times do you think I was held back while I watched my sons get pruned? How many times has B-15 pruned you? How many times has someone, maybe us, found the truth about the Timekeepers and He Who Remains?"
"You think it's a loop?" Loki asked. "Time isn't supposed to exist in the TVA."
"Then how did we end up back here?"
"Maybe when the Loom overloaded, it reset everything."
"How many times?" Mobius asked. "How many times has the Loom overloaded? How many times did the people who figured out the truth get reset and wiped? Or worse, pruned?"
"We can change that," Loki said, infusing as much certainty into his voice as he could. "You're back, I'm back, B-15 is back, and we'll find the others before long. We can skip the bit with the Timekeepers and be one step ahead this time."
"And then what? I mean, should we kill He Who Remains again, or will that just reset the loop again?"
"I don't know, but we'll figure it out."
"How? And what if we get it wrong?"
"We'll try again!"
"And then what?"
Loki searched his eyes for an explanation. "What do you mean?"
"What if we try again, and again, and again?" Mobius asked. He looked around at the street surrounding them, his shoulders falling. "What if this is it? What if there is no way to break the loop?"
"No," Loki said, mostly just being stubborn at this point. "No. I don't believe that. There is an ending to this, one where the multiverse is set free, and we're going to find it."
"But what if we don't?" Mobius asked. "What if you keep saying that we're going to find it and we keep coming back together and we keep trying something different but it ends the same every time? How long before something goes wrong?"
Loki grabbed Mobius and pulled him gently but firmly to an alley between two buildings. No one was watching them, but this wasn't for these people to see. They didn't need to listen to them worry in their last minutes.
"This has happened before," Mobius went on. "Maybe not with us, specifically, but this can't be the first time someone has gotten to the bottom of this whole mess. They probably tried to the same thing we did."
"But they're not us," Loki argued. "We were close. We were so close! If we can just figure out where we went wrong-"
"What if there is no right way?"
"Don't say that!"
"If it all gets destroyed anyway, then nothing matters, right? Just like in an apocalypse. One way or another, it all gets destroyed in the end. We get destroyed in the end. We're just going to lose over and over again, and I can't do it!"
"Mobius-"
"Losing the kids twice was bad enough. Losing you and all the others at the Loom was bad enough! How are we going to just keep doing this if we can't-"
Loki grabbed Mobius's shoulders and stared him straight in the face. "Maybe you're right!"
It was the only thing that stopped Mobius's spiral. Loki only said it so he would listen. Mobius couldn't give up, not now. Not when Loki had given up everything just to get him back.
"Maybe we're in an endless loop," Loki admitted. "Maybe we're trapped in this game with He Who Remains and we can never win and we're doomed to repeat this over and over and over again. I don't believe that," he said, pausing to make sure Mobius knew that much. "I don't believe it. There is an end to this and I'm going to keep fighting until we find it, but if this is a loop..."
Mobius was calm enough to listen now, but he was clinging to every last word Loki said. Was there any good in this? If anyone could find the light in a loop this dark and this terrible, Loki could, but was it even there? Had he found it?
"If this is a loop," Loki repeated, "if all we can do is resist but never win, if the Loom will overload and send us all back to the Sacred Timeline every single time, if we have to do this again, then this is the best part to play."
He tried to think, tried to find the words to say exactly what he meant, because without any explanation, it was insane. How could any part of a loop this horrific and constricting be 'the best part?'
Loki couldn't think of what he needed, and he was about to just blurt out something, but he looked at Mobius first, and that stopped him. This is the best part to play.
"It matters," he said. It was such a simple way to say something so important, but it was true. "It matters that we want to give people a chance to escape the fate of the Sacred Timeline. It feels pointless, because if all of this is just a loop, then it doesn't feel like anything we do will change the outcome, but it's not about that. It's, it's like an apocalypse. Nothing matters, right?" Somehow, Loki found himself echoing the same words he told Mobius the first time they came to Pompeii, but oh, how time had changed the meaning. "In a few minutes, all of this will be gone. All of these people, everything they care about, all gone. That's what every apocalypse does, and that's why the TVA can't detect anything that happens here, so nothing matters."
"Yeah, except when someone finds a way to use an apocalypse as a smoke screen for something bigger," Mobius pointed out. At least he was calm enough to make quips again. "It doesn't stop the apocalypse, but it mattered to us."
"Exactly. It was still destroyed in the end, but it still mattered."
He looked down. He didn't know how to make this make sense, but it did to him. Loki relaxed his arms, but he didn't let go of Mobius's shoulders. Mobius didn't seem to mind that.
"If this is all a loop," he started again, "if nothing we do can stop He Who Remains, and if all we can do is delay the inevitable, then we're just cogs in a machine we can't change. There are parts to play, and if we don't try to do something, someone else will eventually, and it will all just happen anyway. Either we can pretend like we don't know anything and hope for the best, or we can fight the hopeless fight. We can resist He Who Remains and try to give people free will and a chance to live outside the Sacred Timeline, and we can fight for the TVA agents who have already lost everything. That fight, even if we can never win it, matters. It matters," Loki insisted. "It matters that we choose to fight for something better than what is. If we have to be part of this loop, then I would rather be part of the side that stands for hope and freedom. I would rather go through this loop a thousand times and lose over and over again than be part of the problem."
Mobius let his gaze fall. He had been part of the problem. Not willingly, but he had, and so had B-15, and Casey, and everyone else at the TVA. He could go back and just go through the motions again, but what kind of person would that make him?
Loki wasn't done. "I would rather us be sabotaged by Renslayer than to follow her. I would rather us take chances on Variants like Timely than trust He Who Remains. I would rather us brainstorm and plan and fail than to not try at all. I would rather us work together, knowing that we trust each other and that we're fighting for something worthy of a fight, and lose it in the end than not have it to begin with. I would rather risk coming here to get you back, and to get all our friends back again, and watch that Loom overload and start all over again than to not have come back again. This is the best part to play," he said, and Mobius looked up again. "Our part."
Our part. The part where they cared more about actual, real people than they cared about a bureaucracy and fake gods. The part where they had their real memories and real friendships and were allowed to mourn those for the lives that no longer were. The part where, even if branches were dying, their conscience was clear. The part where they were allowed to choose which side to stand on in this war on loop.
The part where they faced the death of hundreds, if not thousands, of branches together. The part where they hunted down traitors like X-5 and Dox together. The part where they faced the destruction of the TVA together. The part where they knew what was coming but at least they would do it together.
Maybe that last bit wasn't what Loki meant, but it was reason enough for Mobius. That screaming voice in his head was out now, content now that it knew Loki knew he knew who Loki was. Everything was set right again. Loki was back, having managed to evade the TVA's attempts to prune him in true Loki fashion, and Mobius was his entire self again. Sure, if the Loom blew again, they'd have to start all over, and everything hinged on the hope that Loki would find a way to restore Mobius's memory before something bad happened, but that wasn't going to happen yet, right? They had time. It was running out, but it wasn't gone yet.
He breathed out, just barely nodding. It would be one thing if Mobius didn't remember what happened before the Temporal Loom destroyed itself, or if he had been captured or killed or something worse. This was an entirely other thing, though. They had a chance to restore the Multiverse, to free the timelines, and protect billions of innocent lives. Doing anything else now wouldn't just be ignorance but malice. Mobius wasn't malicious, and he wasn't heartless either. He was going to fight this fight, pointless or not. He couldn't, in good conscience, do anything else. The slim hope that maybe it would work this time was enough reason to try.
But damn it if the friends he made along the way didn't give him more reasons to do something pointless anyway.
It hurt. Knowing he couldn't save his timeline hurt. Knowing he had condemned his world by intentionally causing a Nexus event hurt. Dooming his sons to a terrifying death hurt. Knowing he could yell and shout at the other TVA agents that they were Variants too to no avail hurt. Having his memory erased really hurt. Realizing what he had done after the mind-wipe hurt worst of all. He hung his head just thinking about it.
The other memories, though, the kind, warm memories of light banter and soda-drenched salads and running from cloud monsters and supporting each other through tense meetings and troubleshooting time-slipping and crashing movie premieres and key lime pie and mischievous plans and Cracker Jack and arguing over tiny little figurines... that was worth it. Even if they couldn't win a doomed war, wasn't it all worth it for moments like that? They had already lost their timelines. If for nothing else, didn't they have to fight for the one life they had left?
He ought to say something. Loki was right, even if it was such a bleak destiny to resign to. Mobius opened his mouth to say something, but before any sound could come out, he felt Loki's forehead touch his, just barely. He could have just bumped it by accident if neither of them knew better.
Mobius pressed his forehead into the touch, and that seemed to say whatever it was he was thinking for him. I'm in this,he might have said. It's going to hurt, but I'm not backing out. I can't see the light at the end of the tunnel, but as long as I can hold your hand in the dark, I'm in this.
That was a good place to stay for a while.
The bustle of Pompeii seemed to quiet around them, like someone was turning down the volume control to the world. The quiet assurance that they were going to face whatever waited for them back at the TVA together made it easier to accept. Mobius still had a gut-wrenching fear that everything was still doomed to fail, but it didn't seem so intimidating right now. They had faced it once before, after all, and so had others before them in previous loops. He had been arrested and memory-wiped and conditioned and persuaded and pruned and betrayed and nearly had his skin ripped off and provoked to lose control and blown back to the Sacred Timeline only to repeat at least part of that process, but he had still made it this far. If he had to chose, he'd rather go through it all again with Loki than by himself. If he was doomed to be part of this loop, then he wasn't going to play his part alone.
Somehow, Loki still had shining hope that there was an end to this. Mobius didn't have that hope, despite all that he wished he did, but he did have Loki. As long as they were still willing to try, whether it would change the outcome or not, this was the best part to play. Their part. "Our part," he finally said out loud.
A deep rumbling in the distance interrupted the moment quite rudely. Unfortunately, they were still in Pompeii, and unfortunately, Mount Vesuvius was still set to erupt right about now.
"I think that's our cue," Mobius said, if not a bit disappointed.
"B-15 is going to grab Casey, and then we'll all go downstairs and find O.B.," Loki explained, but he didn't pull away. The Pompeii residents were beginning to scream and run, but the two of them still hadn't moved.
Right, the others. Mobius's friends. All of them. "Okay, and then what?"
"Then we do whatever it takes to stay under the radar until we can come up with a plan," Loki assured him, "preferably one that Renslayer doesn't know about."
"Oh, shit."
Loki smiled. "I see you remember that as well."
"I do now. What about Miss Minutes?"
"We'll figure it out," he promised. "We have another chance at this. We have time."
Mobius nodded, and they really had to go now. Loki finally let go of his shoulders, reaching into his pocket for a TemPad. His other hand drifted down, prepared to keep Mobius in front of him just in case the volcano blast moved faster than they wanted, but Mobius grabbed it instead.
They had time. They had time to come up with a plan, they had time to do it right this time, but they also had time for them. Mobius was sure there was more to say, more they hadn't quite gotten out before Vesuvius blew, but they would have time for it later. Explaining why they had become such good friends in such a short period of time would be interesting to say the least, but that was their part to play.
With one last look behind them, Mobius and Loki walked through the time door Loki had summoned, back into the hallway they had left not long ago.
"Well, I'd say you're definitely onto something," Mobius said, half-startling Loki. "We're gonna need a lot more evidence though. Something this big needs proof."
Oh, right. Their cover. "I know you must be busy with other cases, but can you spare some time for this?"
"Yeah, I think I can make that work." For a split second, Loki saw a knowing, dare he say mischievous, smile return to Mobius's face. In that moment, it was rather easy to pretend they were back at the beginning again with no knowledge of a greater plot or a Time Loom or fake Timekeepers or anything beyond the TVA and the Sacred Timeline.
Hopeless as their part might be, but that didn't mean they couldn't get their fun where and when they could. Mobius was still holding onto Loki's hand, not willing to separate again so soon.
I can't see the light at the end of the tunnel, but as long as I can hold your hand in the dark, I'm in this. This is our part, and this is the best part to play.

Part 2: https://www.tumblr.com/fandomfaeofveryfewf4cks/735068803984228352/part-1?source=share
Part 3 below:
. . . . .
"Loki?," Mobius called out again. God, he hopes this will work. After a lot of planning at the TVA, the gang decided the first step was to get Mobius back out there. The hypothesis being that Mobius being on a timeline somehow allowed Loki to contact him.
Whether it was because Loki couldn't reach the TVA or couldn't find it at all was an unknown among millions. But living in uncertainty comes with the job when dealing with time and alternate dimensions.
Either way, if Loki could hear Mobius right now, he better be trying to say something back. Mobius thinks this to himself, trying not to let the concern-disguised-as-annoyance show through too much.
Just as he took another breath to call out again, he felt an odd hum in his ears. It started off as just a vibration. He couldn't tell if it was meant to be a sound or not. He couldn't tell what it was meant to be at all, frankly. But soon the sound evened out into a whisper of his name in a voice so familiar, it made his eyebrows shoot up and his head shoot around to look for his friend.
"Loki! I heard you! Where are you?"
Faintly, Loki whispered back, "I'm still...with...the branches." There was no physical strain in his voice, but rather, it sounded like he had to concentrate very hard on saying the words he needed to say. "It's difficult...to focus on anything...but...the branches. It's getting better. Though, it will...it will take time for me to better control it."
"Yeah, that makes sense. Casey thought something like that was going on. Was that why you hadn't contacted us earlier? You couldn't divert your attention from the branches yet? Or could you just not see us in the TVA."
"No, I can't see the TVA from here... It doesn't exist on a branch, so... It doesn't exist in the realm I-"
"The realm you're in, yeah, I got it," Mobius finished the sentence for him. He sighed. He wasn't sure asking his next question was a good idea. It's a vague question that usually doesn't get you more than simple and vague answers in return, at least with most people. Not to mention, distracting Loki with unnecessary questions that would likely just lead to more questions that would also distract him, was basically putting the multiverse in jeopardy. But, fuck it. Mobius needs to ask him this. It's been weeks of nothing from or about Loki. He needs to ask this.
"Are you okay?"
Predictably, Loki pauses. "Am I okay?," he asks.
Mobius doesn't roll his eyes. He may look up for a second, but he lowers his eyelids over them, so he's obviously not upset or frustrated. He's not.
"Yes, are you okay!?" he asks again as he starts throwing his hands around to make his words seem more pointed and planned than they are. "I asked if you are okay. You've been basically missing for weeks and we figured you were at least alive since the branches are all still alive and nothing was turning into spaghetti. But we still didn't have any idea what was happening to you. We had no way to reach you, check on you, just fucking talk to you." He huffs out a breath. He lets his hands rest on his hips and his head hang over his chest. He lets another breath out, slower this time. He evens them out and pinches the space between his eyes. Okay.
Maybe he was a little upset and frustrated.
Loki gave him the moment to breathe before speaking. "I am alright. It's oddly...calm here." That pause sounded more like one he would put in normally. "When I first pulled the branches together, I... purposefully sent my magic through them... to bring them back to life.... Not long afterwards, once they were all more or less settled around me,... I could feel them start to pull my magic from me on their own, like a root takes water from the ground.... I was worried it would take what I had and I'd run out of magic and even my own life force to give it. I was worried I wouldn't be enough."
. . . . .
'Why am I telling him all this?' Loki thought to himself. 'I was supposed to explain that the branches are safe, and that I wouldn't be able to contact anyone very often because the whole bloody multiverse needed basically all of my attention or else it'll throw a hissy fit and die again. Then they'd only see one another when absolutely necessary.'
Which was likely never, and Loki knew this. That's why it would be a good plan. Keep Mobius safe and away from all this as much as possible. Away from Loki as much as possible.
...Ah, that would explain why he's spilling his guts out to Mobius. He doesn't want to let go. No one listens to him so attentively as Mobius does. Most people stop really listening to him much after an interaction or two. Even more-so once they got to know him. But that hadn't been the case with Mobius.
"I soon realized that it wasn't just taking energy from me; it was giving energy back. It comes from me, cycles throughout the tree and comes back to get sent out again. It's terribly fascinating. Like sharing blood."
He looks at Mobius. Even though Mobius can't actually see him, he feels safer sharing his innermost thoughts and feelings with Mobius than with anyone else. And he takes no greater happiness than when Mobius shows his own to Loki.
Can Loki really expect to be able to stay away?
Can Loki really expect Mobius to stay safe while the God of Mischief and Stories holds him so close?
There's nothing for it. He has to stick to the plan.
Or at least try to.
"Mobius-"
. . . . .
Mobius picks his head up again at the gentle call of his name and immediately feels like an idiot for thinking Loki was right there for him to see. He really needs to pull himself together.
"...Mobius, I am okay. Truly. I am safe and well. The multiverse is safe and well. There is no more need to worry."
"Ha," Mobius scoffs. "Yeah, I know you're okay. I just wish you could be better than okay. I think you more than deserve it at this point. You deserve more than this, Loki."
"That's very kind of you," Loki replies after a moment. Mobius can almost feel his smile from here. The smile that tells Mobius just how much it means to Loki when someone shows they care about him. How much it surprises him. He does appreciate when someone is able to surprise him.
"But how are you," Loki continues. "Have you been 'better than okay,' as you put it?"
Mobius fights another scoff. Loki is trapped in a magical tree for the rest of eternity and he wants to know whether Mobius is okay. Of course he's okay. Except, he realized he had a whole other life that he can't really go back to because he can't remember it, had a disappointing first go on a jet ski, got pruned, got nearly spaghettied, and just generally, has been running around like it's the end of all time and space (which it was) almost non-stop. Not to mention he lost the best friend he's had since Ravonna, and no longer has any idea what he's supposed to do with the rest of the life that suddenly feels like it has a huge empty space in it.
Now, how does he explain all this to Loki without sounding like he's complaining?
"I'm alright. Things got a lot more boring after you were gone, though."
Loki laughs softly, "Most people would call such circumstances 'safe' before calling them 'boring.' However, I must admit, I understand the sort of dismay one can experience when there's nothing interesting going on."
"'Interesting' is one heck of a word to use to describe total annihilation of all existence. But we actually have had plenty to do, tracking the He-Who-Remains variants and making sure they don't cause a catastrophic war or anything."
"Ah."
"Yeah... I was actually mainly talking about you."
"Me?"
"Yeah, I got used to having more mischief in my life. You got me hooked on it." He may want to pull it back a bit. That's probably a bit much to say right now. "Cubicles and war rooms are pretty scarce on chaos and mayhem."
There was a longer moment where Loki didn't talk. Mobius had a feeling it wasn't because of the difficulty to manage the timelines this time, at least not entirely. He's actually had fewer breaks in his sentences since the start of their conversation, now that Mobius thinks about it.
"Have you thought about where you want to go? What you want to do, if not staying at the TVA?"
"How did you know I was leaving the TVA?"
"Oh, right. Sorry, I caught some of your conversation with Silvie when you were... on your old timeline. I was trying to reach you."
"Okay, so can you see pretty much...everything on the timelines."
"Basically, yes."
"Huh," Mobius is just going to pretend it's not unsettling at all to know it is perfectly possible for powerful beings to know what you're doing without you ever knowing they're there. That sort of thing has already been established as believable as far as a large portion of humanity is concerned, anyway.
"Well, I actually don't know what to do next. I just know the TVA is not the place for me anymore. I tried jet-skiing, but it felt like going for a nice walk with a hole in your sock. It was nice, but there's just something that keeps poking at me like there's something else I need to be doing. The more I think about it, the more I realize I've felt like that for a long time; it was just more subtle."
"The hole in your sock wasn't as prominent."
"Exactly. That and the scenery on the walk was busy enough to keep me distracted more, even if it wasn't as nice to look at."
Loki hummed in consideration.
"Do you still feel that hole in your sock?"
Mobius thought about that. He was still wildly uncertain about what he wanted. He has no plan. Yet, he doesn't feel quite so adrift as he has been.
"I feel like I got new shoes," Mobius replies.
"...new shoes?"
"Yes, new shoes. Ones that are more comfortable than my old ones. It doesn't fix the socks, but something has still improved the situation."
"Ah, I see." He sounded like he did.
How they turned this into a conversation about shoes, Mobius will never know. But it feels nice to talk with someone about things that don't have to make sense again. It's nice to be able to talk to Loki again.
"Mobius, you still have access to a tempad, yes?"
"Yeah...?"
"Is there anywhere you've always wanted to see, in all of time and space?"
His job for the longest time, has been reading about and "protecting" a timeline full of phenomenal places, astounding people, and extraordinary events that he never got to fully experience for himself in a way he could appreciate because it would affect the "sacred" timeline. Of course he has places he's always wanted to see. He's got an endless list. There is literally a library full of the places he wanted to be a part of.
An entire timeline had been tucked away into countless words onto an endless sea of pages, and Mobius has been an avid reader.
"Maybe a few," he answers. "Why?"
Again, the smile comes through Loki's voice. "How'd you like to go for a walk?
. . . . .
Next up part 4/?. Time eludes me. No knowing when it'll be up. I'd be either a terrible time traveler or a great one with how little the passing of time makes itself known to me. If you've been reading this, thank you and I'm sorry. Hope you enjoy :)

Loki S02E5 ramblings

Loki S2E3:
I like how the first half of the season is directed on saving the TVA, as opposed to last season's agenda of destroying it. The irony is way too funny.
Gotta say that Loki, Mobius, B-15, D-90 (?), Casey, and O.B. running the TVA is the best thing ever. They're all amazing together. I hope Sylvie decides to come back this episode and stick around. Looked like she was thinking about it.
Ooh, interesting spin on the MCU logo theme today.
RENSLAYER SIGHTING.
She is so out of place there omfg.
"That's it?" Pretty underwhelming, right?
Miss Minutes changes colors 👀
OG He Who Remains as a child is something I didn't know I needed.
Literally everything revolves around that book, doesn't it? Wait- doesn't this mean O.B. should get credit for helping create the TVA??
"That's gonna be an awkward reunion." I love Mobius.
"Well, maybe she got it out of her system." Lmao. Doubt it. Might not try to kill them, but she's definitely no friend right now.
The thing I love about Mobius & Loki going on missions in the timeline is that we get to see so much more of their dynamic. They're definitely one of my favorite duos ever.
"Thor isn't that tall." 😂
Renslayer talking to a ghost clock in a bag is way too funny.
"Don't let her see you." So, either this is going to go like the Andor finale or she is totally going to see them. Noted.
Whiplash at seeing adult Victor Timely as opposed to the little boy ten minutes ago. This dude literally dedicated his life to controlling time.
NO COMPUTER, I DON'T WANT TO UPDATE JAVA RIGHT NOW.
Okay, I know Jonathan Majors is being accused of domestic violence or something, but the guy is a great actor. Not that that excuses him of any crimes he might've committed.
ARE THEY GOING TO KIDNAP HIM?
Mobius, this is such a bad idea, my guy. His ambitions are already too powerful. He'll just take over again.
"I don't do partners." THE LOOK ON THE OTHER GUY'S FACE. 🤣
Oh, great, he's selling it.
Is Renslayer seriously about to find them out because Loki stepped on a dude's foot?
Loki has absolutely no patience and his solution to that problem was the best thing ever 😂
I can't believe they ACTUALLY managed to sneak up on her.
Renslayer and Loki & Mobius fighting of talking to Victor is the funniest thing ever. It's like they're fighting for custody, except it's their younger father or something and he knows literally none of them.
And there he goes. 👀
"We just wanna talk!" You are literally chasing this man.
Victor is such a trickster.
SYLVIE WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE.
I wonder if He Who Remains remembered Loki and Sylvie fighting over him back when he was Victor still.
"Well, your machete hasn't solved any problems thus far." Ouch. She literally did deserve that, though.
This moment is the S1 finale all over again.
Giant ghost clock. 👀
Well, at least Miss Minutes had fun.
Victor and Renslayer really did fall in love, didn't they? Huh.
Is Miss Minutes seriously jealous of Renslayer right now? Lmao.
He just called Mobius a butler 😂
"Loki helped murder your variant." He did fucking not, stop manipulating the poor guy.
"Take him! He's all yours!" I almost spat out my soda.
Ooh, boat. How romantic. The writers planned this.
"I always knew my ideas were good. I just didn't have the technology to make them really work." Shit, now I feel bad for him.
The look on his face after she said "partnership."
LMAO.
I KNEW HE WAS GONNA DO SOMETHING LIKE THAT. 🤣
But also. Miss Minutes seems to despise her, so yeah. More of her manipulation is happening.
SHE WAS JEALOUS.
That is the weirdest love triangle ever.
........Why do I feel like Miss Minutes is trying to manipulate him into giving her a body so she can kill him and take over the TVA personally?
There was definitely an "I love you" in there. Holy shit.
Ooh, prototype pruning-baton.
How the hell did Loki & Mobius find them?!?
Victor has to think they're all crazy by now, doesn't he? And he'd be right tbh. Poor dude.
AND THERE'S SYLVIE AGAIN.
This guy is having a rough few days, honestly, what the fuck.
Sylvie, it's not okay to shape people into murderers by trying to kill them before they've committed the crime.
"I can make my own choices." 😭
AYYYYYY.
Respect, Sylvie. Respect. No way letting him leave much less live was easy.
Oh, okay. Well. Wasn't that unexpected. I mean, she wanted to go to the End of Time, didn't she? There she is. Enjoy the corpse.
LMAO AND SHE'S STUCK WITH MISS MINUTES AGAIN.
WAIT, I WANTED TO KNOW WHAT THE SECRET WAS.
I can't believe season two is halfway over already...

What I saw in the leaked Loki S2 D23 trailer
Note: I've tried my best to write it all down. If there is anything incorrect or missing, please let me know and I'll update.
Also:(sc) means scene change
An elevator door opens to reveal the Marvel Studios logo
A close up of someone flicking through a small red book. It then refocuses to show Loki creeping up on them. They are in what looks like a normal room. He says "Hello" and then he glitches back and forth.
(sc) Loki is reading or looking at something we can't see and then looks over his right shoulder.
(sc) shot of what looks like a TVA office with a white door and a window that's shining with red-orange light. The lights flicker and it pans in towards the door.
(sc) Loki standing in what looks like the courtroom
(sc) Loki standing out in the desert. He says "This is going to sound strange"
(sc) Loki in a TVA hallway, glitching about the place. His arms move about wildly. We hear his voice say "I've been pulled through time"
(sc) a white and blue room with barriers on each side of what looks like a ramp down into it. The door begins to open. Loki's voice says "and I saw terrible..."
Switches to Loki wearing his TVA shirt (clean) and tie and the holster he had in episode 5 and 6 of S1. He looks shocked. It also looks like it is in the same room.
(sc) Loki in an orange light room. He's wearing a dark coat. He says "awful things."
(sc) Loki in his shirt and tie with a minute man. He grabs the pruning stick and hits it against a wall decorated in carvings of timekeepers. The wall melts away to reveal three golden Kang faces. He then gasps.
Screen with the words ‘This summer’
(sc) a shot of a bright area with a curved roof and walkways around the side. The central part is open (doesn't have any floor to walk on).
(sc) Loki and Mobius standing in a green TVA room. There's a circular desk like a reception. Mobius is looking off to the side and Loki is looking at the back of the room but also at him.
As they walk forward, someone (humanoid shape) jumps down onto a platform at the back of the room.
The shot flips to show Mobius' and Loki's reaction. Loki hesitates while Mobius walks forward.
The shot flips again to show Ke Huy Quan leaning over the desk to place something in front of them. Then he stands back and smiles proudly. Loki's voice says "This is about everything.."
(sc) Sylvie is lying on a brown sofa, her head resting against the back and her arms lying wide by her side. She is wearing headphones and staring up at the ceiling. There is a long table or display behind the sofa.
(sc) Casey is walking through a dark space. He gazes upwards. Loki's voice continues "when there's nothing to stand between this world..."
We see a damaged looking wide open space. There are lights in the background along the wall.
(sc) we see Hunter B-15 in her glorious yellow outfit.
Then we see Loki and Mobius standing outside a theatre wearing their tuxedos. There is a crowd and also a red car parked outside on the road where they are standing. The shot pans out. Loki's voice continues again, "and utter destruction"
(sc) Mobius stalking behind the theatre. It looks like someone is entering the theatre through a back entrance.
(sc) A door opens in a red room. The door is shaped like a submarine door.
Shot flips to show a concerned looking female character (Ravonna?). Loki's voice says "war is on its way"
Either scene changes or shot flipped to show Loki pointing behind him. If flipped, the walls look more ornate.
(sc) back to the curved roof area with Loki and a hunter fighting. Loki is wearing what looks like his tuxedo, so assume this is in the theatre. He blasts the hunter with green magic.
(sc) Loki is running/sliding down an alleyway
(sc) back in the TVA in either an office room or other space. The main focus is on the timeline alert system. Someone falls to the ground.
(sc) Loki and Mobius walking in a dark street wearing their tuxedos. They stop. Mobius says "a little over the top, don't ya think?"
The shot widens to reveal another Loki standing slightly to the side.
The shot tightens to the second Loki who says "I thought it was spot on"
Then the shot widens again
(sc) Loki wearing his coat again, looking downwards. He is in a red room. He moves his hand up and moves like he is pressing something (maybe a time turner).
The shot moves back to show someone in a TVA jumpsuit being moved backwards (in time).
(sc) Loki and Mobiuse sitting in a green room (possibly the same green room from earlier) learning forward.
(sc) a door is being pushed opened by two hands, probably by two people based on the way the hands are positioned.
(sc) Mobius wearing a spacesuit
(sc) a close up of a tape being played
(sc) a shot of a judge in a courtroom
(sc) close up of Mobius with grey hair through a circular lens (referring back to the spacesuit or seeing him through a door spy hole?)
(sc) Loki free falling, his limbs spread wide
Loki S2 ident
(sc) Loki and Mobius sitting across from each other in the TVA cafeteria. Loki says "I can't be the problem anymore, Mobius"
Close up of Mobius asking "Who says you were?"
Close up of Loki looking concerned, then he starts listing people "Ironman. Captain America.
It switches back to Mobius shaking his head and exhaling loudly through his nose. Loki's voice says "Hulk."
Back to Loki who says "Black WIdow. Hawkeye."
Back to Mobius again. His face looks like he half agrees with the list but also half wants to say otherwise. Loki's voice says "Phil Coulson. Thanos."
Shot pans out to show them both across the table from each other while Loki lists "Nick Fury. My father, My brother"
Switches to looking at Loki over Mobius' shoulder and Loki says "Miss Minutes"
Switches to shot of both of them again and Loki says "you"
Switches to looking at Mobius over Loki's shoulder and Mobius says "hmmm"
Disney+ ident
