Who I am, what I do, and why I do it :)
Hello people of Tumblr!!! My name is Vera and I'm a trans woman who spends her time hiking a trans pride flag up many mountains. Two years ago, I hiked the flag up 115 mountains in the Northeast of the US, and last spring I followed it up with another 202 mountains in the Southeast of the US. Currently I'm working on a more expansive list of 131 peaks in the Northeast of the US. This post is kind of an intro to me, and if you have any more questions, feel free to send them my way! Also do be aware that I'm a Reddit refugee who's new to this site, so if you have any helpful advise, please let me know because I'm still figuring things out as I start to transition away from that dumpster fire of a website! :)
Who am I???
My full name is Veronica Ashcroft (she/her), though I usually refer to myself by my nickname, Vera. I am a transgender hiker and aspiring mountaineer from the Northeast who spends a lot of time outside. I recently bought a van and have converted it into a little mobile-living space, and that combined with my recent decision to do seasonal work means that I have a lot of free time on my hands – free time that I intend to spend hiking and peakbagging as much as I can!
What is peakbagging?
Peakbagging is a style of climbing mountains where the goal is to summit a peak. This can take on many different forms, from just generally trying to summit peaks as a goal of climbing/mountaineering, to religiously pursuing lists of mountains grouped together because of their height, significance, etc. The way I personally approach peakbagging is to summit as many peaks as I can within a given timeframe, usually following some list that I either created myself or borrowed from an outside source. Most people who peakbagg do so over the course of months or years, so I'm definitely on one extreme with how much time I put towards my peakbagging projects
Which mountains have I done, which am I working toward, and what will I tackle in the future?
Last year I took a trans pride flag up the Northeast 115 4000fters list, which is a rather descriptive name, given that there are *basically* 115 4000ft mountains in the American Northeast. This spring I bagged the New Southeast 202, which includes the tallest and most prominent peaks in the Southern Appalachians. Currently I'm working toward the New Northeast 131, which comprises a number of the 1000ft prominence peaks in the American Northeast, including all of the remaining 2000ft prominence peaks that aren't on the 115. This one is a fair bit more challenging than the previous two I've done, and will involve me learning/developing various skills to complete hopefully by the end of the summer. After that, who knows!? I'm taking life one step at a time!
Why take a pride flag up mountains?
The simple answer is because I was already going to do these mountains anyway, and taking a pride flag up them allows me to promote trans visibility in the outdoors and spread some positivity in the process. And we trans people need some positivity in the world right now. Politicized transphobia is on the rise, and trans people have become one of the key targets of right-wingers. It was already bad a few years ago and it has gotten worse - I invite you to look at the news if you wanna see what I'm talking out. Obviously taking a flag up some mountains isn't in the same league whatsoever as these political assaults from the right, but we really do need some positivity to stay sane and hopeful in these times. And I'm certainly not going to single-handedly do that - I'm neither that arrogant nor ambitious to claim something like that. But even if my projects positively impact only a small group of people for a brief period, that will be good enough for me
Why take a trans pride flag though?
I'm trans, and I'm also a lesbian and sometimes gender nonconforming - I like to joke that I'm a couple different flavors of queer. Intersectionality is important, and when I started these projects last year, I choose to emphasize my trans identity by taking a trans flag up because that was the part of my identity most under-assault. Truth be told, I was originally planning on using a rainbow flag for my current work for the reason of trying to have my projects appeal to a wider queer audience. But then, the onslaught of anti-trans laws intensified last year, and I was being reminded daily that a lot of people really do hate me for who I am, and I know that those people would already be angry to see a queer person taking a rainbow flag up mountains - but they'd be livid to see a trans woman doing the same with a trans pride flag. Or to put it another way, on a personal level, my trans identity is the target for most of the bigotry I face, and so that's the part of my identity that I want to push back with the most
Why am I not doing something more useful with my life?
With the onslaught of bigotry showing no signs of relenting, I see queer people all over wondering what we can do to fight back. And to be entirely honest, hiking a pride flag up a bunch of mountains definitely isn't the most efficient use of my time and energy right now in that political context. It would probably be a much better idea for me to join one of the many political groups and organizations fighting back against this onslaught of bigotry, rather than doing projects like these. And I know for a fact that some people will look at my project and be disappointed that I'm choosing not to do that. But honestly, hiking makes me really happy, and I've spent the majority of my life profoundly unhappy dealing with issues of depression and gender dysphoria. And now that I'm in a position where I can actually do something like this, I'm gonna, because for most of my life I couldn't even imagine myself having agency over my own life. And, although I'm well aware that the scope of my project is ultimately quite small, I've had enough people both online and irl come up to me and tell me that my projects helped inspire them, or at least just brought some trans positivity in an era that is increasingly frightening for queer people - and, to me, that makes it worth my time
What can you do to help?
If you enjoy my project, please reblog and share it with other people - the more people who view/follow what I do, the more effective I'll be in getting the message across!!!
Is there anywhere else you can follow me?
Yes! I also have a reddit and an insta that I post to, along with an account on peakbagger detailing the nitty gritty of my hikes. Additionally, I have a personal website where I put detailed trip reports and lots of photos, so be sure to check those out!!!
What if you have any other questions?
Reach out! I love it when people message me! Do be aware, I do spend most of my time in mountains with spotty reception, so I might take a few days to get your message!!!

From the article- "One of their very first protests targeted Saticoy Elementary School in North Hollywood over a Pride event for students that included the reading of a picture book about different kinds of parents (with one variety of parent mentioned in the book being gay and lesbian parents).
The announcement of this event was followed by a break-in at the school where a transgender teacher's Pride flag was burned. The teacher was targeted online by L.O.K.A. followers and was transferred to a different location for safety. When the Pride event came, a large number of L.O.K.A. supporters surrounded the schools— wearing their uniforms and even bringing a truck with a massive L.O.K.A. sign. In what has become a typical occurrence: L.O.K.A. supporters instigated fights and were filmed throwing punches and beating people to the ground while police stood by and watched. Before the brawls against LGBTQ+ supporters broke out, however, several L.O.K.A. supporters confronted LGBTQ+ youth activists who were rallying in defense of the school Pride event. The L.O.K.A. supporters repeatedly told the LGBTQ+ youth activists that they should hang themselves and that they should have "died in the ******* closet."
These comments have been omitted in reporting from all local news agencies in Los Angeles County— who typically describe L.O.K.A. supporters as "concerned parents" who are just advocating for their parental rights."

May I see Tennessee. I would love to know if they ever are getting a Nyo. Also if they are I believe they will have long brown braided hair that is curly, freckles, Tennessee whiskey colored eyes and wear Tennessee vols shirts, blue jean shorts, brown cowgirl boots. She will also have a strong east Tennessee accent like from Knoxville county and be lesbian
Tumblr media Tumblr media
ofc ! here's my tennessee, lovely boy. his name's andrew "andy" crockett and he's the younger brother to arkansas, but older brother to oklahoma.
he has straw blond hair and light brown eyes, and is a bit short at 5'7.5" or 172 cm- he's literally in between italy and romano's heights. he's generally on the thinner side and struggles to gain muscle, but he is surprisingly strong for his build as well.
he's a genuinely nice, friendly, welcoming and compassionate guy- he's actually one of the politest states out there. all about that southern charm and hospitality, he loves hosting people and goes out of his way to make sure those around him are doing well. however, while he is rarely passive aggressive, he absolutely knows how to very creatively insult people if they push his buttons.
he really, really loves music. he's into many genres, such as country, rock n roll and the blues. his favorite artist is ofc dolly parton (he adores her so, so much) but he does really enjoy others like tina turner, aretha franklin, bessie smith and many others. he has a vast knowledge of music and the genres of country, rock n roll and the blues; he even knows how to play some music himself.
He's also into BBQ, caving, playing football, the outdoors and whiskey. He prides himself on being a bit of a whiskey connoisseur. He speaks English, Spanish, French, Arabic and a few Indigenous languages fluently. He speaks some Mandarin and German as well, but nowhere near full fluency.
He likes keeping his hair at shoulder length. He doesn't usually do much with it; he'll put it up in a full ponytail in the city, and a half up half down style when he's in the sticks. When he's at home, he wears it down. His hair is slightly shaggy in its style, which he likes. He's grown his hair much longer and much shorter than shoulder length, but that's his favorite style.
He spends most of his time outdoors or enjoying music. He owns five houses- in Memphis, Chattanooga, Nashville, Rutledge and Flag Pond. He spends the most time at his houses in Memphis, Nashville and Flag Pond, but especially at the latter two- he goes to Nashville when he's in a big music mood, and Flag Pond when he wants to be surrounded by the outdoors. He knows his way around the outdoors, and spend a lot of his childhood in it. He's in the younger half of the states, being physically 20 years old. He doesn't have a strict fashion sense either- while he does most often wear decorative tees and loose, scuffed up jeans, he pretty much will wear whatever's comfortable. He does have a good amount of specifically outdoorsy/caving/mountaineering clothes, along with a small amount of more western-y clothes like cowboy boots or stuff made specifically for horseback riding. He has a significant number of musician/band tees, though- ranging from his favorites of Dolly Parton and Aretha Franklin, to Tina Turner and Besse Smith, to even Miley Cyrus and Justin Timberlake.
Overall, he's a polite, well-mannered, friendly, welcoming and warm state that's easy to get along with !

Okay, this might sound weird as shit, but seeing the way LGBTQ+ people my age act about the LGBTQ+ community is genuinely so strange to me as a second generation queer person.
My mother was a single teenage lesbian mother who grew up in bumfuck nowhere northern Florida. For people unaware: If you're not in a Big City, Florida is southern culturally. Especially northern Florida and we lived literally less than half an hour away from the Alabama border. My dad's family lived in Alabama and is about as southern redneck as you can get.
My point is that people now are so out of touch with queerness and how the queer community used to be and how it was for many, many years. The queer/LGBTQ+ community today is so, so, so online, which it didn't used to be. It genuinely feels like people do not know their history and are actively trying to erase it in a lot of cases.
I was raised surrounded by queer people. I was raised by lesbians who proudly called themselves dykes and gender nonconforming gay men who were called faggots their entire lives. I genuinely didn't know that dyke was a slur until I was a young teenager. It was just used around me so much that I accepted it.
I have personally seen the growth and the evolution of the queer community in the past few decades. I remember when I was in elementary school and I was the only person who knew what a queer person was. I remember having to teach other children that "my mom kisses girls and it's not gross". I distinctly remember that in third grade, I told a peer that my mom kissed girls and my peer asked me if my mom had ever tried to sexually assault me (because I was AFAB and this child assumed that a lesbian was naturally predatory)
Kids were not allowed to play with me because their parents were afraid that their children playing with the child of a lesbian would make their kid gay.
I remember being a child below the age of ten seeing people protest the idea of gay marriage being legalized. I remember my mother and I driving past a Chick-Fil-A and seeing a person dressed in a cow costume, holding a sign that said "God Hates Fags" on one side and "Chick-Fil-A Anti Gay" on the other.
And I knew even then what that meant. I knew that people hated my mother for existing, that they hated people for loving who they loved.
And it was terrifying!!!
Growing up the child of a lesbian back then was fucking alienating and genuinely traumatizing. My mother did all she could for me, but younger queers these days seem completely unaware of just how hated we were for so long!!
And I see so much stuff online now about how "only these people can say dyke" and "straight drag queens aren't queer" or "queer has been used as a slur, so it can never be reclaimed" and other bullshit and it infuriates me!!
The queer community is tearing itself apart! My mother, who has told me how her mother seemed to love her less when she came out, who has been out as a lesbian since she was fourteen, who has been openly queer and has raised me on queerness since my birth, doesn't understand all this new infighting.
Of course she doesn't!
She doesn't understand all the different pride flags or all the different terms or any of it. If she spoke online about her experiences as a queer person, so many people would attack her! Would call her homophobic or transphobic or whatever just because she's not caught up on how quickly things have changed.
It's just so baffling to me how queer people who don't know any queer people outside of their own generation don't understand what it was like and care so much about appearances versus reality.
And it's not a bad thing that our language has grown and evolved. It's not a bad thing that our community has changed. But constantly trying to focus on the "aesthetic" of queerness, on sanitizing it, on ignoring anything "problematic", rewrites the history of queerness.
I guess my point is to listen to queer elders. You'll very genuinely learn things.

rainbow high but they each have distinct and varying styles
hi im putting my Disscusion under the post cause ik lots of ppl just wanna rb the art but also i have Thoughts
-ruby’s style is the strongest in the series imo. they designed a butch lesbian and nobody told them ig. my only slight change was giving her cowboy boots cause if shes from “the country” then she should... actually... look like shes from the country. maybe its just cause i grew up in nc but i would love some southern rep from a character where being from the south isnt their whole Personality. anyways i think she should wear western style button downs is all im trying to say
-bella... her style is ALL over the place. since she is a set designer i wanted to make her a theatre kid!!! her style is somewhere in the 40s/50s zone of vintage inspired so that way she has a definite Range of styles and silhouettes to choose from! im a sucker for the new look bc its so Shapes but i could also see her pulling off some long wool circle skirts and peasant top blouses! i also gave her some hearing aids and braces which you can probably only see if you zoom in dhjnf
-poppy got the biggest design overhaul of anyone. i kept the butterfly theme and nothing else fbhdjd. since her music has some definite funk energies i wanted to give her a 70s inspired look with some glam platforms and denim overalls! i think we deserve bellbottom pantsuit poppy. i also changed her hair bc literally the rh main cast all have practically IDENTICAL hair styles save for the direction theyre parted in. i wanted to give her those anime butterfly headphones but toned down slightly hdsjdnd oh and! shes also wearing glasses bc once again we get a whole cast of characters and not one of them is wearing glasses like smh literally like half of all ppl wear glasses?? anyways in terms of personality i wanted to keep her bubbly but instead of just making music thru like Divine Inspiration i think she should take a more realistic and nuanced approach!! show her nerding out abt music theory and talking about the themes her pieces represent and the stories they tell
-sunny’s design is Mostly the same! her hair is slightly changed, i wanted it to match the cover she drew for winnerz! i also made the rainbows on her outfit pride flag colors, and gave her some button pins on her jacket! every Token Anime Kid ive ever met has buttons plastered all over their bags and jackets and its a nice touch that gives her some more Character i feel
-jaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaade. jade. i wish she had kept her dark lipstick. and also that she wasnt just billie eilish. and that she was the token goth of the group. her stitched up shirt is inspired by a shirt i wore in high school! it was from the 90s and SUPER beat up to the point where it was literally disintegrating so i just sewed up any new holes that would form with contrasting thread it was a Look. i hc her as wearing contacts bc when she tried wearing glasses she got upset that she couldnt show off her makeup as much gvhbnf! i also gave her a spider necklace bc i think she should still like spiders BUT i HATE the jokes abt “therapy tarantulas” bc only dogs and like 10 horses can actually be service animals and the whole thing w people lying about their untrained dogs/cats (or worse, exotic animals that they should not even own) being service/therapy/emotional support animals just so they can bring them in public is!! Really Bad!! and it hurts people who actually do need service dogs bc untrained dogs are well. untrained and set a bad example for how service animals will actually act! and owners who print out fake certifications also make it harder for disabled ppl bc it leads to store owners thinking that theres some sort of paper they can ask the owner to flash to prove the service dog is trained when that. is not actually true and theres no such thing as an actual certificate for this. if a service dog company offers a certificate/card/whatever to show authority it is specifically for disabled people to do when faced with this issue and has no actual official meaning. and ANOTHER thing that bothers me abt this joke is that.. Therapy For What? it would be really cool to see a canonically mentally ill character as a protagonist for a doll line! it would be fantastic to see them opening up that conversation for neurodivergent kids and their parents! but we have no indication for that at All just haha funy therapy spider :| anyways jade is an nd lesbian my canon now
-skyler is punk now! shes a fashion major and i think it would be a really interesting character to explore, someone who is shy but dresses really flashy and tough! i also changed her theme material from denim to the blue leather she wears at the party bc im biased towards alt fashion. her hair was really fun to design, with a big Cloud of Fluff at the top and long braids underneath bc get it!! its Rain Cloud Shaped :] i dont have much else to say bc this design is def in my Comfort Zone of styles. anyways we stan andershaw here they literally are in love
-vi vi! i didnt change much bc i dooooooont really know that much about influencer/mainstream fashion tbqh... i Did give her That One Halter Top Style that literally 2 other of the main characters are both wearing instead of a loose 1 piece dress tho. i also decided she should be into holographic fabric bc its very Sleek and Future Is Now and Influencercore. i also think the sleek tight fitting holo shirt/skirt is a good contrast to Big Fluffy Fur Jacket. she also has a prosthetic leg idk i just thought it would be a good Touch
overall rh def has some MAJOR problems with diversity in all aspects and it shows in their fashion design as well! if you put the characters in black and white save for a few patterned pieces they would all be interchangeable and i honestly think that its representative of the larger problem! maybe i do follow the monster high design philosophy that every piece should only make sense on the character its from, but the fact that they cant even diversify FASHION despite it being a Fashion Doll Brand really Says It All.

Image ID: A picrew using the picrew maker by carrotkake, showing a Black person sitting with crossed legs and holding a cute little rat in her right hand. Xe has black hair with two buns and bangs, is wearing black-frame glasses as well as a yellow turtle neck with a light purple jacket and deep purple pinstripe pants, as well as sparkly magenta shoes. She sits against a background of a pastel version of the pansexual pride flag, and a white circle behind the upper half of xeyr body. End ID.]

[Image ID: A flag with eleven equally-sized horizontal stripes. From top to bottom, the colors are black, navy blue, deep purple, deep pink, blood red, red, red-brown, orange, yellow-orange, golden yellow, and pastel yellow. LGBT Zoology Pride!
As June is pride month I thought I’d post some animals that colourations match LGBT pride flags to celebrate evolution’s rainbow in my own nerdy science way.
Previous flags here: Lesbian | Gay |
Tumblr media
Mwanza flat-headed Rock Agama (Agama mwanzae)
Endemic throughout Tanzania, Rwanda, and Kenya, the male’s bright colouration of pink, red and blue mean that these lizards are also commonly called the spider-man agama.
Tumblr media
Thunderbolt Crayfish (Cherax pulcher)
The thunderbolt crayfish is a proprietary variant bred from two different species from the Cherax genus resulting in the bright blue, pink and purple colouration, which make them popular pets. Species in the Cherax genera are found typically in Australia and New Guinea.
Tumblr media
Lilac-breasted roller (Coracias caudatus)
Found throughout sub-Saharan Africa and the southern Arabian Peninsula, these birds are considered the (unofficial) national bird of Kenya.
Tumblr media
Flower Beetles (Smaragdesthes africana oertzeni)
Smaragdesthes africana are a common beetle species found throughout the  afrotropical region, more commonly known as flower beetles due to the range of various shades of iridescence throughout subspecies. The subspecies oertzeni is a strikingly purple, blue and pink colour.
Tumblr media
Superb Leafwing (Fountainea nessus)
These striking butterflies occur in the eastern Andes (from Colombia to Bolivia) with the males forewings baring these bright pink-purple bands overlaid with a bright blue sheen. The underside of their wings are patterned brown in order for them to cryptically resemble their surrounding environment such as tree trunks and leaf litter.

So I’m completely African American, and wanted to know your takes on being gay in the black community, off of reading your posts it’s clear that you’re not tainted by conceptualized views of the Bible and just wanted to know your perspective on it
my take is simply that it’s fucking rough my dude.
last year i went to pride, and it was on the same day as odunde. And let me tell you i quickly hid my pride flags when i went to odunde and once i left i put them back on. I think its shitty that black lgbt peeps gotta hide it when they’re in their culture but also have to face racism in the lgbt community. It would make my day if black gays and lesbians could be intersectional without it being so damn hard on the black side of things. but black families are very conservative, especially religiously. Our culture is built on the beliefs of southern christians, with a black spin. That’s the facts. And if the republican party wasn’t so damn racist, there’d be a lot more black republicans.
my take is simply that basing any sort of prejudice off of some semi-translated verses often given without historical context is a cold take. especially when it’s the same practice that allowed people to wage religious wars and inquisitions and lets some whites believe they’re superior. the same outdated opinions that allow catholics to decide to not have any female priests. the ones that say you can sell off your daughters? picking and choosing what to take out of the bible is both ludicrous in some contexts and essential for every christian, because the bible is FULL of random laws given especially for the historical necessity of keeping jewish people safe and their culture intact. which is why there’s so many damn denominations.
i could probably talk forever about this, but tldr; intersectionality is important and its not just something white feminists don’t understand, it’s also something that the black community doesn’t seem to always grasp. There’s some understanding of being both black and a woman, but being black and a woman AND lgbt, or simply black and lgbt, doesn’t seem to be understood. (though it is used to make the One Diverse Character DOUBLE REPRESENTATION) I appreciate the fact that I can join a lot of discord groups that are for and by black lgbt, but we don’t have a lot of voices, even if we’re the loudest activists in every community. I wish it was easier.
sorry i hope that was .... comprehensible at all. i should have tried to answer this in the morning

The Pride: A brave, if awkward, first step
So, hey! First time I’ve ever done a proper review of something.
Tumblr media
The Pride is an independent, Kickstarter-funded comic written by Joe Glass, with lettering by Mike Stock and a whole host of artists that you can see listed in the image above. I’d run them all down here but that would turn this opener into a full-on run-on sentence.
The Pride, as you could probably guess, is a story about an LGBT superhero team coming together (Led by the perfectly-named and Superman-esque Fabman) both to do some good in the world and to combat the image of LGBT+ superheroes. As a bisexual man, I am all about this. There’s going to be spoilers underneath the cut, so if you don’t want to read those, my TL;DR is Please buy this book and these comics, support them so that the series can grow and improve even more!
As with a lot of independent superhero comics, there are a lot of ersatz and expy characters (for those not obsessed with TV Tropes, that means they’re very similar analogues to preexisting properties) so that you can get acclimated to them more quickly and we can move forward with the story. There’s Wolf, the brooding, no-powers, hypercompetent rich badass; Muscle Mary, formerly a Queen of an island of utopian warrior women who wears a lot of red and gold and has super strength; Twink, who can cover his body in an indestructible metal that imbibes him with super strength; you get the idea. But just because some of these characters are familiar doesn’t mean they’re uninteresting or uninspired. Each one is fully realized and unique, with their own voice and characteristics.
The plot is fairly standard, but still fun thanks to all of the quirks and intricacies of the characters and their interactions with one another. Fabman doesn’t appreciate how the media portrays gay superheroes, he assembles his team, there’s growing pains, there’s pushback from the rest of the superhero community, there’s drama and drama and suspense and sadness, they fight an evil homophobic Southern pastor who wants to build a machine that will bend all the superheroes in the world to his control so he can use them as his army and kill all the gay superhumans, and they win.
The volume also comes with some additional issues after the main story called The Pride Adventures that mostly take place after the end of the initial story, including a two-issue story about the team fighting a vigilante named Outrage, a mech-wearing vigilante who murders homophobes to honor the memory and name of his dead boyfriend, who had also used the same superhero name. And it’s actually really interesting as the team debates whether or not they should stop him or if his actions are wrong. Obviously, they do, and in the end, they’re able to make Outrage see the error of his ways and how his actions are harming the legacy of the man he loved. But still, it’s a ride!
All of the characters represent different facets of the different levels of the LGBT experience; Fabman is out and proud of it and doesn’t really care who he upsets living his life. Wolf is a Camp Straight man still bitter from the backlash in his professional life after his homosexuality became public, resulting in him getting fired from the story’s Justice League equivalent. Twink was sent to the equivalent of a Conversion Therapy camp as a child and is estranged because of it. Bear (who’s a big ol’ anthropomorphic bear man and just the BEST) is an older gay man who came out after he got married and who had a son with his former wife. He’s also HIV positive and is used to help educate readers on the modern truth of HIV and dispel certain myths. Angel is a pansexual drag queen Frost is a Trans woman and White Trash is a Manly Gay whose strength and invulnerability are tied to his self-confidence, but who dealt with an abusive father and gets tattoos as a sort of therapy to work through those ugly memories. They’re all wonderful characters and I really hope the series will continue and we’ll get to see more of them.
It’s also great, as weird as it may sound, that the members of The Pride don’t get along perfectly all the time. Some creators try to paint the LGBTQ+ community as one big happy family and that’s disingenuous. I’m not trying to say we’re not all in this together, but there’s still discrimination even inside our rainbow flag and I like that that’s actually represented. Fabman and Angel actually argue in the team’s first meeting about the importance of explicitly mentioning the “T” in LGBT (although given that Angel’s a drag queen and not a trans man, I don’t know if that’s better or worse). Frost is worried at one point about how Muscle Mary will feel about her being a trans woman. Bear faces discrimination and hostility for being HIV positive. There’s layers. It’s like a good party dip.
Now, The Pride isn’t a perfect comic. It’s a little pricey at around £30 (and that’s BEFORE shipping, especially outside the UK), but right now it’s  £15 and for ten issues plus a lot of character art and creators’ notes, I think it’s a great deal. It does have a few issues, mechanical and otherwise, and I think it’d be unfair to use a soft hand in reviewing it. There are a fair few grammatical and punctuational errors and more mix-ups of their/they’re/there than I’d feel comfortable with seeing in a professional publication, but those aren’t the end of the world. I also feel like there’s a bit of underrepresentation in the book, with the majority of the team (Twink, Fabman, Wolf, White Trash, Bear, Frost, and Muscle Mary) being gay or lesbian. Angel is a pansexual man, as I already mentioned, but bisexuality and pansexuality aren’t the same thing (anyone who says otherwise is just trying to start an argument) and it’s worrying that the only example of a nonbinary, potentially aroace individual is the Martian Manhunter stand-in. Also, some of the names are a little... iffy. Twink is called Twink because... he’s a Twink. It’s a pun on the fact that Colossus is a big, burly, shiny metal dude. Bear... is a giant bear and a big, burly gay man. And I’m not super sure about how I feel about the Wonder Woman character taking the same name as a slur for a muscular gay man.
Like I said, it’s not perfect. But when all that we get a lot of times in comics is stuff like...

This... or....

It’s such an important book and it should be rewarded for taking a big step forward with success and invested readership so that it can continue to grow and evolve and get better!
