Fuck it,
A non-comprehensive- and better- list of names containing the root word Leo that are better than what the wiki says for Leo Valdez. Because Leonidas is stupid. (no offense[full offense]) (my credentials: i have over 56 percy jackson/heroes of olympus wips and am chronically allergic to using the same name for leo more than a few times. plus leo is my oc)
-Leonidas. The og, the one that everyone seems to think is the canon name. If it was, why didn't Hera or a monster or Gaea never call him it? Anyway, the first Leonidas was a king of Sparta and claimed to be related to Hercules. The modern Leonidas is a chocolate brand.
-Leoni. Just means lioness. It's a female name (a few on this list are) but it still gets the job done of being a longer Leo name but still unique.
-Leocadius. Bright, shining. If you're looking for something vaguely greek-y, this is usually what I go for ngl. Sounds cooler than Leonidas anyway.
-Galileo. Famous inventor/astronomer. Also the only name on this list that doesn't start with Leo, but instead has the name at the end. Does this ruin the lion motif? Maybe! Do I care? No!
-Leora. Compassion, light. Also a more female leaning name, but look me in the eyes and tell me you won't write trans Leo with him just making his birth name more masc, you won't. Or transfemme Leo lengthening her name to Leora.
-León. Meaning lion. Spanish/French/Italian origins. There's a guy on TikTok that calls Leo León exclusively instead of Leonidas. I've had him blocked for months cause I don't like his content but he did have a valid point not calling Leo Leonidas.
-Leota. 'Of the people.' German roots and origins. (I'm actually using this for an au rn where Leo's an oracle/seer lol. Cause, cause... get it? Nevermind.)
-Leonardo. Another famous inventor/astronomer. Need I say more? Also don't tell me Esperanza wouldn't name her baby after an inventor.
-Leonora. Another name meaning light/brightness. You'll notice that Leo can either mean lion/lioness or light. Which I think is fitting for someone who burns so brightly as Leo Valdez.

On Names (EXU Calamity)
One of the many very cool things that's gone into the making of a miniseries full of very, very cool things is all the thought and intent visible in the way these characters are named. The cast went in hard on names that evoked ancient Greece and Rome, which I love, and several of them referenced actual or mythological people! I don't know how much of this is intentional and how much coincidental, but at least some of these references are for sure real, so a list of things I've noted so far:
Zerxus Ilirez -- Many people have noted the similarity to 'Xerxes'! As a refresher, Xerxes I was a king of Persia circa 480 BC. He did a lot of impressive king things and conquered several places, but is best known for the time he tried to invade ancient Greece and got his ass handed to him. In particular, he's best known in modern times as the bad guy in the movie The 300. (Interestingly, in that movie he's an extremely and overtly queer-coded villain, set up against almost comedically hypermasculine heroes, and much was made about that when the movie came out.) I don't know about Illirez, but it sound like, if it's Latin-derived, it's something filtered down through Spanish. Anyone have thoughts?
Loquatius Seelie -- Easily the most obvious, this man's name is literally 'talkative fae creature'. What I really love is how clear it is that Loquatius named himself upon coming to this plane, picking words to describe himself that are so incredibly on point. I also appreciate how Loquatius in particular is spelled in such a way as to evoke Roman naming conventions.
Laerryn Coramar-Seelie -- Okay so this one baffled me for the longest time, but I had a brainwave writing this post, and I'm going all in on 'Laerryn' being a reference to the Lares -- Roman household gods whose job was, to quote Wikipedia, "to observe, protect, and influence all that happened within the boundaries of their location or function." (Ouch!) They were probably ancestor spirits, meaning that they were the spirits of actual, once-alive-now-dead humans who were worshiped by their descendants as gods, which also hits real hard in the "I will be remembered forever", "what's so unreachable about the gods?" place. (Still no idea about Coramar, though. Again, I crowdsource this unto all of you.)
Nydas Okiro -- I love 'Nydas' because I think there might be two separate references buried in there. One, we've got the Nydas = Midas connection, the king who turns everything he touches to gold, guild leader of the Golden Scythe, which is up front and great and I love it. But thinking about Zerxus, it seems like there also might be a reference to King Leonidas I -- you know, the Spartan king who defeated Xerxes I and was the main character/hero of that aforementioned movie. Given that Zerxus and Nydas have apparently been BFF for years, that is a very interesting little tidbit (especially in light of how the party's been fracturing). Also, as per above re: Okiro -- this crew has a lot of very evocative first names and very unfamiliar last names.
Cerrit Agrupnin -- I'm really not 100% on this one, but 'Agrupnin' immediately brought to mind Agrippina, a Roman Empress circa 50 AD. She was by all accounts a pretty forceful, unpleasant woman, involved in all sorts of political maneuvering, assassination, etc, but as a connection to Roman nobility it's not bad. (Bonus, I'm like 90% sure she got mentioned on a chocolate frog card in Harry Potter, which would mean Travis has definitely heard her name before, albeit randomly and very much in passing.) Beyond that, 'Agrupnin' sounds very much like 'gruff' and 'abrupt', while 'Cerrit' invokes 'serrated' -- a dangerous, no-nonsense name for a dangerous man who's had it up to here with this shit.
Patia Por'co -- Patia's name is a masterpiece of references, and I love it very much. There's the 'Portia' similarities, which I don't discount -- Portia the wife of Brutus who killed Julius Caesar, Shakespeare character, tragic figure, killed herself after her husband's whole deal half-collapsed the empire, hopefully not foreshadowing -- but I am also absolutely sure that she's named after Hypatia of Alexandria, philosopher and mathematician of the Eastern Roman Empire. Brilliant lady, torn to pieces by a mob, and remembered in recent years as dying a martyr in the fall of the Library of Alexandria (which absolutely did not happen, she was not even there, but it's the story and an excellent reference for our Keeper of Scrolls). Bonus, Por'co both reflects portico, a column-delineated stone porch typical of fancy rich houses in ancient Greece, and politico. INCREDIBLY fitting for our political climber, throwing her magnificent parties in her magnificent mansion.
AND AS A BONUS:
Evandrin -- (Or possibly Evandran? I can't seem to find a consistent spelling.) All startling similarities to Fjord's old mentor aside, best guess here is a reference to Evander, a Romanized Greek name that literally translates to "good man". (So maybe it's Evandren.) There was a folk hero named Evander who was credited with first bringing Greek culture to pre-Rome, but again, that probably even wasn't his name, just what they called him, because he was a classic folk hero whose name was literally Good Man.
I open this up to the community from here! What did I miss? Who's got thoughts about those many surnames I couldn't figure out? How much does Laerryn as a lare make you go OUCH?

Kassandra’s immorality was not what she expected it to be. The Staff of Hermes Trismegistus has been in Kassandra’s possession for 2,436 years. The broken spear of Leonidas was in her possession for 45 years. These two weapons, combined, has caused a lingering effect over Kassandra physical being.
The first effect is her eyes. She was born with natural dark chocolate eyes, but the longer she was in contact with the spear, the more golden her eyes have come. This is because of the residue powers imbued into the sword. Adding on the Staff, and those thousands of years, Kassandra’s eyes will glow gold because the power and “magic” as some call it has bled into Kassandra’s body, blended in with her blood and being.
Second, is the markings over Kassandra's face, arms, legs, and body. These simplistic geometric marks started out barely visible at first after she came into contact with the staff. But the more knowledge she gained, and the longer she possessed this staff, the brighter her markings became. Her godhood blood (Isu or Greek God verse dependent) began to show itself more visibly. Kassandra claims that these markings are simply tattoos to make herself look more formidable, however they are more than just tattoos. They are symbols of being more than a mortal.
Another effect is the immortality that is in the Staff of Hermes Trismegistus. Because Kassandra has carried the staff for so long, the effects of the immortality, too, has bled into her system. Despite passing the staff onto the Heir, Kassandra found that she can’t die now. The power of the staff is a part of her as it is a part of the staff. So she can let go of the staff and never die. This is a curse, in Kassandra’s opinion, because for over 2,400 years, she has loved and loss and loss everything in her lifetime, and she thought she would have died after letting go of the staff. But no one has ever carried the staff as long as Kassandra has and that’s why she is the only one that has had these effects upon her.
Markings and eyes as seen below

what's this?? actual writing?! anyways, here's an attempt at a small scene with a couple of the modern day guys :]
'snow and sleeping by the fire' !!
--
It was cold. Far too cold, in all honesty, for Eleanore Wyllor.
Of course, it wasn't cold for her alone. She could see the way Misty plodded along, teeth gritted and his shoulders hunched in a box shape. It was as though if he fit himself in a small enough square, he would magically become warmer.
On her other side, Era kept the pace. While she didn't seem as cold, the way the goddess's sunny eyes dimmed and the slight falter in her steps through the thick snow easily set up the same tone.
As for El, however, she could feel herself beginning to puff with the last remnants of the coals in her chest. It was something odd to feel them fade, no matter how metaphorical they are. It made her languid in a way that she didn't quite right. Her fingers were a little numb, but she used them to tug on Misty's shoulders regardless.
"I'm tired," she complained. "How far do we have left to go?"
(They had gone into the square to throw snowballs at unsuspecting shop-goers, but that wasn't important. She was cold now, anyways, and she wanted to be home as soon as possible.)
"We're almost at Era's house, I think," Misty hummed thoughtfully. "We're also coming up to Leonidas's, although I think he's busy."
"He's definitely busy," Era quipped. "Did you see him as we went by? He was bent over papers and all sorts."
El gave her a despairing look, and Era sighed.
"I'll make hot chocolate when we get there? You can stay over if you want?" She offered.
"Can we invite Amity maybe..?" She pestered.
"Of course," the goddess said with a smile.
El smiled, but she still didn't feel the best. She still felt slow, and if she concentrated enough, she could imagine her heart slowly thud, thud, thudding to a halt.
"Are we a little closer?" she whined. Misty glanced at her, his brows furrowing.
"You just asked that. We'll be at Era's house in a second, okay?"
"I'm tired."
"Hi, tired, I'm-"
"-Misty," she wailed. She threw a hand over her palm, and flopped in the snow. She meant it to be funny, but it hurt a little when she landed on her wings the wrong way.
"Oh no," Misty said. His voice was a knife-edge of scathing sarcasm, as he stopped and stared down at El. "Guess you'll freeze."
"Maybe I will," she retorted. Era pressed her hand over her face, looking thoroughly done.
"Right," Misty declared. "Come on, Era. We're going." With that, he began to walk away, with Era following a little farther behind. She tutted and shook her head at El before she did, making the Drakonian stick her tongue out at her.
She waited a few seconds, before she went to get up. Only her muscles felt like stone, and the snow was far too thick. The cold feeling had seeped into her blood, and each breath was a little more frantic than the one before, steeped in frigid air and worry.
"Misty," she called, her voice crackling. "Era. I'm stuck."
Misty stopped. He always did.
"What do you mean, stuck?" He shouted back.
"Stuck as in- I can't get up," she said. The two began to wander back through the fields of undulating white.
"Come on," he sighed, grasping her hands and attempting to pull her up. It didn't work. He frowned.
"Are you all right?"
"I'm cold."
"Yeah, I know you're cold," he said. "But- anything else?"
She shrugged, burying her head in her sleeves. "Tired? I dunno- it's really cold, though."
Misty sighed, before trying to pull her up again. He managed to bring her to her feet for a few seconds, his face lighting in triumph. But then she fell over again, and he muttered a string of loose curses under his breath.
El only let out a small 'hmph'. She would've probably scolded him for the language. If she wasn't so exhausted.
"Misty," Era mumbled, frowning at El. Her eyes were far more dimmed than before.
"What?" He asked, looking considerably exasperated.
"She's a Drakonian."
"Mhm."
"Drakonians are cold-blooded."
There was silence for a few moments.
Then; "damn."
--
El couldn't remember the rest of the time too much; suddenly, though, she was curled up by a fire, with what was most likely three blankets all piled on her. She went to get up, yawning quietly, only to have yet another blanket shoving her back down.
"Misty, oh my gods-"
"Oh- sorry," he said. His voice was a little more worried, and El saw the way his face twisted into an anxious frown. "Are you feeling all right?"
"Just tired. There's a lot of blankets here," she mumbled.
"Leo thought it'd help," he replied with a sympathetic smile.
El glanced around, and came to the realization that they were in Leo's home. The small house was cluttered with candles, and she could see out the tinted window that it had begun to snow again in small flurries. By the little iron kitchen set, Leonidas bent over what looked like a tea kettle, with Era holding cups steady by his side.
"What're we doing here?" She asked.
"It was the closest place," Misty said with an uneasy, stiff sort of shrug. "I mean- Leo didn't seem to mind."
"Of course I wouldn't mind!" His voice boomed.
"You were working, we didn't want to disturb you," Era said, almost despairingly.
"Next time one of you is like that, I hope you'll disturb me again," he replied. It would've sounded stern, if it wasn't for the fact that it was Leo who said it. "Are you feeling okay, El?"
"Mhm," she sighed. "Are you making tea or hot chocolate?"
"Tea."
"Thought so."
It didn't take very long for Leo and Era to come over. "We'll have hot chocolate later. With Amity," Era promised, her eyes glittering. She sat down by the fire with her own tea, while Leo passed one cup into El's hands, shooting a stern look at her while he did.
"You're staying here tonight."
"Mhm."
"The snow's getting worse, so I don't think it's the best idea for you to leave."
"I know, Leo," she whined jokingly. Still, he gave a slight tut and went back to the round table in the center of the room.
"Stay by the fire," he said, putting on his gilded glasses. And with that, he bent over his papers once more.
El sighed, before leaning next to Misty. "Fine," she muttered. But as she sat by the roaring flames, sipping her tea with two friends by her side, she found that she didn't exactly mind.

Movie n°1: Zeus' Thunder
Eldest child takes the backseat when a little brother is born. That little brother ends up being quite smart (and WICKED) for his age, actually quite scary too. Manipulating the parents into punishing the eldest child, summoning goons who the parents think are normal babies having a playdate with him (despite not inviting the other "kids"), and making pacts with elder beings. While still being in diapers.
Movie n°2: Leonidas' Chocolate
Guy had a dream with his wife. Years later, as a widower, he decides to go on a trip that could be fatal to him. Enlisting the help of an heteroclite crew, he sets for his new dream... but thanks to a man he didn't expect to be there, the whole thing suddenly becomes much more dangerous...
(note: Leonidas' Chocolate and the previous Midas' Touch have the same summary but are not the same movie)
