Crime Fighter pt. 3
- PART 3 IS UP!!!! Hahahah this was gonna be something completely different but it didn’t feel right so here’s some short, sweet fluff for you guys. There is only 1 more part that I plan on doing for this series, if I happen to get an idea I MAY add to it, but that’s not guaranteed.
update- I did, in fact, get an idea halfway through writing this so there may be 2 more parts coming... I keep digging this hole for myself lol.
Content: Date night gets canceled, so reader stays up waiting for Bat’s to come home.
Part 1
Part 2
Warnings: None <3
Tumblr media
I say this with all the love, kindness, and genuine honesty I have in my 5”5 body: I hate the cold. Years of living in Gotham should have accustomed me to it, but I could never adjust. The way my toes grew numb, my legs covered in bumps and chills no matter how many layers I wore. I was made for warmer climates, sunnier places. But I stayed, first because of my obligation to help Gothamites, but when it came down to it… I stayed for him.
I stayed for Bruce, in this miserable, constantly cold, raining, blurry mess of a city. In the early months of the city, the snow turned to freezing rain, which was somehow worse, and wind blistered and stung. But I stayed. I stayed for blue eyes and dark hair and a stupid grin that only ever really came out when we were alone.
The night never sleeps, the shadows are always watching and waiting. He needed to keep being out there, keep fighting, but he assured me that I could take off the cold season. Believe me, I tried to argue but he knows how miserable I can be, perhaps a little too well since we’ve been… this. Whatever it is. I stay at the tower more and more, and I’ve noticed my stuff in my apartment slowly appearing in my guest room in the tower. I know it’s Bruce, and it’s only stuff I mention aloud, like my headphones, and the next day there they are, on my dresser. If he keeps this up I’ll end up living here permanently. Maybe that’s not such a bad idea.
Since the Riddler incident, Bruce has become more of a public figure. He goes out more, holds more donations, parties, fundraisers. He’s becoming a bit of a philanthropist, not that I mind. Wayne Industries is fueling this city's comeback, and he’s so proud to be doing some real good outside of crime fighting. I’m proud of him, but I’m also adamant on staying in the shadows for now. This is his moment, and news of Bruce Wayne’s new girl becoming public is the last thing he needs.
My phone buzzed on the coffee table beside me.
“We may have to cancel dinner tonight.” Bruce’s voice grumbled through the tiny speaker.
“You traitor,” I heard a huff on the other side as he laughed, “how are you going to break it to Alfred? He was looking forward to cooking.”
“I’ll tell him in a minute. There’s a large number of sightings of Victor Fries near the eastern docks. Gordon has reason to believe it’s a weapons drop, he wants to check it out.”
“Is there no sanctity of Date Night with the GCPD?”
“Gordon’s been married for 30 years. No, I don’t think so.”
“How rude. I’ll be there by 6.” I went to get up from my seat, near empty mug beside me and near finished book in my lap.
“Don’t, I’m taking this one, stay there and stay warm, hopefully I’ll be back before the morning.”
“You’re not serious are you- I really don’t like you doing all of this on your own-”
“Stay. Relax, just be there when I get back.” I grumbled before we said goodbye and I sat back in my chair. Slouching and moody, I couldn’t help but feel some guilt when it comes to Bats being out there again. Tonight was supposed to be ours. The more I thought about it, the more sure I was that if I left now, I could meet him at the police station with time to spare. I wiggled out of my seat, carefully placing my book down, hoping that maybe I wouldn't be heard.
“It might be wise, Ms., if you were to stay the night just once more. The wind is particularly harsh, and with you on that bike of yours, I can just see you ending up in a ditch somewhere.” The old man stood in the doorway of the sitting room, his 3 piece suit looking as spiffy as ever, his brows drawn in concern.
“Alfred…” Alfred was the greatest sweetheart the world had ever known, and the most conniving-
“Just once more, I promise it would be much safer to travel in the morning.” I can’t argue with him, even if I genuinely tried. Looking out the window, the rain was rushing past so fast it was hard to tell if it was really raining or if the wind was a sheet of gray.
“Fine… but Bruce is working tonight, something came up. I guess it’s just us.” He nodded, though I saw in his eyes that he wasn’t surprised.
“Is there anything I can get for you this evening, Ms.?” Leaning my head back, I really couldn’t think of anything much, but I didn’t want to be alone right now.
“Then maybe some more tea, and two good books.”
“Two, Ms.?”
“Yep, one for me, one for you.” He smiled again, and nodded happily before leaving to get the drinks. He and I spent the evening drinking tea, reading, and snacking for hours until Alfred retired for the night. It was about 9 o’clock, so I finished what I could of my book and took it with me down into the train station below the tower. Since my integration into the Bat’s Nest, I made some renovations to the cave with the help of Alfred and Bruce. I put in a couch near the back wall, away from the path of B’s cars and bikes. Since the cold set it, I’ve also added in a space heater or two. After checking the monitores, I put Bruce’s constantly changing location onto the largest screen so I could watch from the couch.
I spent hours like that, laying back on the couch, piles of blankets and a space heater, eyes flicking between the words on my pages and the tracker moving across the screen. I think it was 2 am when I fell asleep, I didn’t really get a good look at the clock before things got fuzzy.
When my eyes slowly opened and shut repeatedly, I woke to icy fingers holding my waist, my whole body jostling and moving. Lifting my head, I realized it was laying on someone’s shoulder, my legs lazily wrapped around a toned waist, and he was carrying me down one of the tower hallways. I hummed a little to let him know I was awake. Bruce turned, kissing my cheek before nudging my head back down on his shoulder. I was too tired to care, not that I minded. My big strong Batman.
He walked us into my room and let me sit down on the edge of the bed. Turning to move towards the pillows, I stopped as I heard his armor hit the floor with hard, sharp thuds. Looking back, he was very slowly taking his plating off, moving stiffly and with slightly shaking fingers. I don’t know why, but I reached over to grab his hand and immediately pulled away, letting out a hiss.
“You’re freezing!!” He laughed a little, continuing to take off his armor.
“Well, Gordon was right. And Fries was there. So, yes, I’m freezing.” As soon as he was left in his undershirt and boxers he reached out, pushing me down on my back and wrapping his hand around my ankle, slowly drawing soft circles on the inside before pulling at the leg of my sweatpants. “You can’t sleep in these- well, you can, but you won’t.”
He was right. Years of sleeping alone had made me accustomed to wearing only underwear and a shirt to bed. When Bruce and I first started sleeping together, I tried to start sleeping in pajama pants or shorts, but it was so uncomfortable that I'd squirm at night, trying to adjust. Bruce got fed up once and damn near torn my shorts off in an attempt to stop me from moving. We didn't go back to sleep that night.
Slowly pulling on the legs of my pants, I lifted my ass slightly and he pulled them off completely, tossing them with the rest of his clothes before he crawled into bed. Large, callused fingers wrapped around my hips, rubbing circles with his thumbs. “Can we stay here all day?”
Its daytime, that's right. The drapes in my room are so dark that it looks like night in here. I had no plans, and I doubt Bruce couldn't just cancel anything if he wanted to. Nodding my head, I hummed out a yes and he slid his left arm under my head while the right pulled my leg over his hip. His right hand slid heavily up my hips and back, rubbing up my spine until he nearly completely wrapped around me. This was his favorite way to sleep, a tangled mess of limbs, hands, and 100% skin contact. His icy hands slowly soaked in my body heat, his whole body slowly relaxing under the blankets. Something about the way we were laying, facing each other, wrapped in each other, reminded me of the night I first came here.
Months ago I was pining after this man, desperately searching for some sort of peaceful normal where I got to have my cake and crime fighting too. Now I sleep in his house, and he voluntarily sleeps in my bed rather than his. We spend entire days together planning better things for the city, and entire nights running the streets looking for trouble. Somehow I managed to turn my work friend who I had a life altering rush on into the love of my life. I wouldn’t trade him for the universe.

if he weren't a hockey player he would be a lacross player
lebron is the athlete he dislikes the most
he doesn't say (chirp) much on the ice (once again i am not surprised lmao)
if matty and him got the chance to play each other at worlds (they didn't cause matty was scratched the first time and injured the 2nd) someone would have gotten whacked in the leg/foot but nobody would have really said anything
Tumblr media Tumblr media
basically Michigan could very easily have 2 players picked in the top 5 and 3 players picked in the top 10. and if you haven't realised how special that class is, they also have thomas bordeleau and brendan brisson in it, which means that they're soon gonna have 4 first rounders in one class, and 6 nhl draft picks. (for context a lot of teams don't even have 6 drafted players on the entire roster)

03:13 am with renjun ♡
nct's renjun x gn!reader (inspired by his recent photoshoot)
alternate title: death is an early bird
genre: angst. fluff. non idol au. angel of death!au.
word count: 670~
playlist: how to fight by eartheater, so humble the afternoon by julia holter & for those who patiently endure by lauren auder.
warnings: violence & death. lowercase intended. not proofread.
a/n: i know i just published that johnny fic this morning, but i have zero self control & wanted to get this out there even if its literally 2 am :D originally, this fic was supposed to be a witch!au but i didnt know where to go with it so i headed another direction AHAHAH this fic was inspired by a video of someone rewriting the last season of game of thrones & redoing the long night episode wayyy better this time (YES IM STILL MAD & YES IM STILL SALTY THAT THE SHOW WAS RUINED) but i dont remember which one though bc ive watched too many, but if i do come across it again, i will add the link! also happy bday renjun bb <3
the night is cold, but it has only begun. you try your very best to focus on the battle ahead of you, attempting to aim your arrows at the opponent’s men from the top of the dark castle. you only have one goal, and one job. you have bent the knee to the queen and now you fight for her and for your home. but that is all quite a challenge when your only guide is the the first quarter moonlight and the occasional hot bursts of flames, as well as the sounds of screams ripping through from below. you take the tip of the arrow to the flame of the torch that you've kept by your side. taking a sharp breath, you strategically shoot it through the fog and watch as it directly pierces the heart of a soldier who then bursts into flames in one fell swoop. you and your running mind only get more numb by the second. yes, you are alive, but you are devoid. you’ve seen far too much innocence get destroyed in a matter of seconds, fragile souls getting wounded or even end up dying in pain. but death does not have much care or time to dwell on that.
there is no time to think about that now, though. this has begun to be a survival for the fittest now. you know the night will remain to be a long one, for only the victors will bring the dawn and will reign successfully. but will you even be able to get through this long enough to see the daylight?
the chaos ensues, the fighting spilling from all over now, violence being the only option.
but death may not even be that bad, right? after all, you would admit that he’s kind of cute even. because from a distance, you see the color violet flying your way.
wait. no, no, no, no. it can’t be.
your jaw clenches. your time can’t possibly be up yet? isn’t it too early? but you aren’t even finished?
when the name of death spills through someone’s lips, one may picture him to be a demon or a monster of sorts, but that was far from the truth. rumor has it (and much contrary to the common belief) that he is not but a mere boy who has the most gentle touch making death feel like a small state of slumber. books depict him to be mostly seen in blood red hues with razor yellow teeth ready to consume you. but you remember your previous mentor saying before he passed that he ran into him many times in his travels and that he was wearing a calming dark violet color and was not at all a child of satan’s.
you see him getting closer. you would dare say that he is indeed handsome however the panic settles in. your shallow breaths fail you as a deep and intense fear roots and implants itself down on the bottom of your lungs, leeching and draining you of yourself. now you really wonder if you are truly dead and if this is your real fate. you pray that he made some sort of mistake, arriving too soon.
the angel, the demon, the messenger, the god, the personification, whoever he may be — he finally lands beside you, your shaking hands dropping your bow, suddenly noticing the arrow on your chest.
“you got shot,” he speaks, sounding otherworldly and motioning to the arrow sticking out of your stomach. his loose violet blouse and light brown wavy hair flows with the wind.
you feel more blood rushing out your body. your legs start to give out, but he catches you in his arms. it didn’t feel cold, instead it was warm and gentle.
“you have the best story yet, you know that?” he coos at you, admiring your features.
“do i? really?” you rasp out, eyes getting heavier.
“mhm. you’ll go down in history, my love,” he assures, ready to take flight to the sky with you in his arms. “now, come on,” he whispers tenderly, tucking a strand of hair behind your ear. “let’s get you home.”

Hockey AU: The First Shot
As I posted the overview, I realized I should probably give y'all a taste of what this AU will eventually turn into. So have the first shortish chapter of the fic:
Amity didn't have to guess where Luz was headed. She could hear her girlfriend's thundering, excited, footsteps race up to their room from up on the second floor. Mentally counting down, she gestured lazily at the door just as Luz burst through it, grinning wildly.
"Annnd there she is." Amity pointed out casually, turning back to her book.
"Amiiiiiiii!! Guess what I got us!" Luz said excitedly, practically teleporting to the witch's side as she leaned dramatically onto her girlfriend.
Amity chuckled, rolled her eyes and set the book she was reading aside.
"Hmmm. Is it some personal space?" She teased, gently elbowing Luz in the stomach, prompting a small giggle out of the human.
"Noooo. Besides, you love it when I hang all over you." Luz teased back as she climbed up onto the bed with Amity and sprawled across her lap.
Amity giggled as she leaned forward rapidly to give Luz a peck on the lips.
"Mmmmmm, I guess I don't mind." Amity smirked as Luz recovered from the unexpected kiss.
"What'd you get us, dork?"
Luz blinked as if just remembering the reason she came barreling into the room in the first place. Amity lifted her hand to hold back a laugh as realization struck on the human's face.
"Oh right! I got us 2 tickets to... 'Sport'!" She grinned, sitting up and pulling two pieces of paper out of her pockets. Luz waved them dramatically in front of her face as Amity frowned.
"Another sport? Luz you've taken us to 5 different ones already. Just how many human sports are there?"
Luz's face took a serious expression.
"Probably hundreds." The seriousness slipped off her face and was replaced by a dorky yet excitable lopsided grin.
Amity felt herself blush.
"But trust me, you're going to love it! I mean it's got violence and elegance and it's one of my favorite sports ever! Plus, I've never known anyone who doesn't like Hockey."
***
“Luz?”
Amity’s voice came muffled from inside the thick sweatshirt her girlfriend had just shoved over her head. The witch wiggled her way through it, popping her head out to stare as Luz wrapped herself up in a similar heavy sweatshirt and grinned at her.
“Yeah?”
“You have been outside today, right? I really don’t think we‘ll need these.” Amity pointed out kindly.
Regardless of the confusion as to why, Amity pulled her arms through the sweatshirt anyways and went to grab the tickets Luz had left sitting on the desk.
“Haha, yeah. But the game’s indoors, and trust me, you are going to want the warmth when we get into the arena.” Luz smiled at her as she snaked an arm around the witch’s torso and snatched the tickets out of her hand.
“Really?” Amity groaned as Luz smirked.
“If you want them back, you gotta catch me!” The human called out over her shoulder as she disappeared down the stairs, pulling her shoes on as she ran.
“I don’t want to waste any time! IT’S HOCKEY SEASON!!” Amity heard her shout excitedly as she heard the front door slam.
Making sure to grab her phone, Amity rolled her eyes. Whatever this ‘hockey’ was, Luz was more excited then the witch had seen her in a long time. Her girlfriend had told her all about how Camilla always got tickets to the local college teams games. How every year her and her mother would catch at least 2-3 games. She neglected to mention, however, just what hockey was, how it was played, or pretty much anything about the sport at all. Just that Amity would ‘love’ it.
Looking out the window at the girl waving excitedly back up at her, Amity smiled. Of course she would love this ‘hockey’, how could she not if it made Luz light up so much?
***
“ANNNNND THAT’S ANOTHER GOAL FOR YOUR LOCAL GRIFFONS!!” The announcer boomed excitedly as the players made a victory lap around the ice. At the ends of the rink, two parallel sets of fire-spitting machines lit up along with the crowd and the music.
Amity. Was. Transfixed.
Hockey, she had found out, was the exact opposite of everything she had grown up learning about ice and skating. Instead of the absolute perfection of elegance her parents had drilled into her, these players skated with reckless abandon. It was about speed and it was about power. They crashed into one another and the walls more frequently then they spent chasing the round goal scorer. Or at least that what it appeared like on the surface. It only took a single quarter for Amity to appreciate the level of complexity of the ‘checks’ Luz had called them. It was about defense more then offense when the other players attacked, and every movement, every rapid turn around, took extreme precision and handling of your skates and body on the ice. The game was fast paced and unapologetic and it wasn’t long before Amity found herself launching out her seat right beside Luz as the players made passes towards the goal.
***
Shortly before the game ended Luz had them both sneak away from the bleachers and into the school itself. The Griffon's were up by 3 and it was almost assured that they would win. Amity was about to protest, wanting to see how the game ended, but she saw a mischievous twinkle in the human’s eye that she recognized as trouble.
It was because of that very glint of trouble that Amity now found herself approaching the ice, hours after the game and everyone had gone home, with her girlfriend who had "borrowed" a stick and puck to practice with.
Luz wasted no time and practically vaulted herself up and over the small railing that seperated the ice from the arena. Within a millisecond of her landing, she promptly disappeared, her body collapsing towards the ground.
Amity dashed forward. "Luz!"
She heard a low groan from the otherside of the railing as the witch vaulted over it as well.
Whipping around she found Luz struggling to get back on her feet. Every time the human would get her limbs together enough to attempt to stand, something went wrong and she ended up sprawled out on her back or stomach once again.
Amity practically had to carry Luz back to the railing. Helping her climb up it and sit, her girlfriend frowned deeply.
"Alright. It shouldn't be THAT hard to walk on ice right? I must've just had a bad start."
Amity looked her over. On her legs and arms there were small nicks and scrapes from the ice and the beginnings of a dark bruise on her chin and elbow.
"Here, let me try again, besides I still got to get the stick and puck back." Luz concluded, shifting to get off the railing.
Amity reacted without saying a word, sliding in front of her.
"Nope. You're already injured, I'm not about to let you hurt yourself more trying to prove a point. You stay here and I'll go grab the stuff we borrowed." Amity explained sternly, looking Luz directly in the eyes.
Luz wilted and Amity felt only slightly bad as she saw the acceptance in her eyes.
"We can try skating another night, preferably when we aren't sneaking into the rink." She offered gently.
Luz lit up once more. "Sounds like you're asking me out on a date, Blight." She smirked as Amity rolled her eyes.
"Oh please. Holding you up the entire time sounds more like a work-out then a date." Amity teased back with a grin.
Squeezing her girlfriend's hands one last time, the pale witch pushed herself away from the railing and looked out over the dimly lit rink. The stick had skidded to a stop about near the center of the rink, while the puck was still slowly making it's way to the home team's goal.
Walking on ice was quite a bit different the skating, but Amity had been groomed from a young age to be perfectly balanced at everything she did. It made her only slightly sick as she made her way with ease over to the stick, remembering the countless days her parents forced her to be out on the ice. When she bent down to pick it up however, something changed. It rested almost perfectly in her hands, just as she had seen the players earlier hold it. Looking up at Luz she saw a spark in her girlfriend's eyes as she stared back, mouth hanging open slightly.. Amity faintly made out her mouthing something before her voice echoed across the rink.
"TRY AND MAKE A GOAL!" Luz egged her on.
Amity didn't think, her body took over. Half emulating what she had seen the players doing earlier and calling upon her own training on the ice, Amity skated over to the puck that was in motion. She gained more and more speed as her eyes locked on the target. Raising the stick back she let it rip, connecting to the puck with a satisfying CRACK as the black object sailed directly into the goal.
Luz went crazy, her cheering shattering the silence of the abandoned arena.
Amity was breathing heavily, her adrenaline running high.
It felt good.
***
Later that night, as Luz was snoring softly on her chest, Amity found herself following her girlfriend's advice and looked up some local rec teams.
There was something she respected about all human sports. The lack of magic or auto-win conditions made every match a true struggle, one that had the players relying on hardwork and skill to come out the victor. It was fascinating and thrilling to watch. Hockey was the first sport she felt was different. Amity didn't just want to watch. She wanted to learn, and she wanted to experience it.
She wanted to hear Luz cheer her name more.
It didn't take her long to come to her decision as a familiar name popped on her screen.
Looking down at her girlfriend's sleeping face, Amity smiled.
How perfect would it be if she joined a hockey team called: "The Otter's."

The Final Attempt | 2
College and Hockey Shawn Au
Summary: It’s the championship game for the hockey team and you’re going to support the team just as you did for the opening game, except this time, you’re repping a certain curly hair boy that you met at the library. (This is the part 2 to The Final Attempt which I will link right here)
Author’s Note: This was highly requested and while I didn’t have a part 2 in mind I’m kinda proud of how this came out so I hope you like it! This is the longest fic I have ever written with a little over 4.3k words and I worked really hard on it to make a good story arc for you guys! As always please tell me what you think!
Tumblr media
The championship game. If you had thought that the opening game was a big event, the championship game had blown all expectations out of your mind. You weren’t one for big crowds, but here you sat amongst the hundreds of people, Shawn’s large practice jersey adorning your body with the word MENDES written in bold letters along your back. “I love it,” you recalled him telling you the first time you had put it on for a game, “Lets everyone know you’re mine.” It seemed like just yesterday you were sitting nervously at the opening game, watching the boy that had won your heart with something as simple as cups of tea and messages written in sharpie. Fast forward to this afternoon when you had kissed your boyfriend good luck before he went to practice and were now watching him skate across the ice at a rapid pace. There was only 5 minutes left in the game with the score tied up, and everyone in the stadium could feel the nail-biting tension in the air. The puck was now in Shawn’s possession as he skated across the ice towards the goal, determination set in his eyes.
“Come on, Shawn,” you whispered to yourself, watching his every move with bated breath. 4 minutes 31 seconds...30 seconds....29 seconds...CRASH. A loud gasp escaped your lips and you stood in your seat, watching as his body got checked viciously into the boards with a loud bang. Shawn slumped down onto the ice, unable to get up while his opponent stole the puck and began to skate towards the goal. “No, no, no,” you prayed, hands covering your mouth, “You’re ok, baby, get up, you’ve gotta get up.” You saw him shake his head carefully, worried that he had a concussion from the amount of impact his head took, before looking up at the timer on the wall. 2 minutes 54 seconds. His head pounded, eyes wanting so bad to just close and rest for a few seconds, but he saw the clock, knowing that this was his last chance to make his team and school proud. He looked into the crowd, eyes landing on the one person he could always trust. Your eyes connected and as he saw the look of pure concern on your face, he knew that he had to use every last bit of strength inside of him to make you proud because at the end of the day, you were the only person that truly mattered to him. The cheers of the crowd were deafening as Shawn regained his ground, skating towards one of his teammates that had managed to to steal back the puck. Passing him the puck, his team flocked him on both sides, protecting him from defenders while he approached the goalie, the clock only seconds away from the end of the game. 5... Shawn maneuvered around an opponent, puck still against his stick ...4... he stared the goalie dead in the eyes as his heart rate increased from adrenaline ...3... thump thump ....2... shoot ....1... score. The crowd erupted into cheers causing the stadium to move up and down with the excitement in the building. You jumped up, smile so wide your cheeks hurt from the action, but you couldn’t help the proud feeling that erupted in your chest.
His teammates crowded him on the ice, adrenaline and victory rushing through their veins as they piled on one another, spirits high all around. The team’s all star player and captain was handed the winning trophy, National Champion written in bright gold lettering along the front. Cheeks flushed from the ice, Shawn held the trophy high above his head with a smile on his face that could be seen for miles, the stadium roaring in response. The energy was electric among the students, cheering from every inch of the team’s supporters as the team huddled around their winning prize and soaked up the crowd’s excitement. Shawn’s eyes met yours for a split second and you blew him a kiss, a silent message to him to show how proud you were, before he was whisked away for picture with his team.
_________________________
The outside of the stadium was packed full of students, all waiting for the victors to finally emerge from the stadium. They were chanting the team’s name, the school’s fight song blaring from their mouths in celebration. The doors swung open and the boys came out to the wild applause and screams of the crowd. Shawn led the pack, the team’s captain smiling wide from ear to ear as the students crowded him. You leaned against the wall of the stadium, watching as all of the fans congratulated him, not wanting to disrupt his moment. He thanked them profusely, but his eyes kept wandering around searching for one particular person. Shawn’s eyes met yours and they lit up, pushing past all of the girls begging for his attention. You noticed him moving towards you and lost all restraint, running into his arms so he could pick you up in his strong grasp. You wrapped your legs around his waist, nuzzling your face into his shoulder as he did the same, “I’m so proud of you, bubs.”
“Couldn’t have done it without you, baby,” he told you sincerely, head lifting to show off that dazzling smile, “You’re my good luck charm.” Shawn had sworn by this fact after the only game they had lost had been the 3rd game of the season, the one you skipped in order to study for an upcoming test. Ever since then, you made it a point to be at every game and they hadn’t lost since, furthering proving Shawn’s theory. You giggled as he placed you on the ground, hands coming up to cup your face in a passionate kiss. Breaking away he placed an arm around your waist and kept you close while more people came to talk to him about the game. You snuggled closer to his arm, using him as a way to keep your calm over how crowded the situation was, especially when you began to feel the jealous stares of the puck bunnies around you. Shawn felt your discomfort after a moment and he squeezed your waist in reassurance before beginning to maneuver you out of the crowd. “Do you think you’ll be ok going to a party with me or do you just want to go back to your dorm? I’ll do either, it’s up to you.”
The idea of going to a party tonight made you sick when you’d much rather just cuddle in the arms of your man, but there was no way you were going to let him skip out on a championship after party, “I’ll be fine, you’ve gotta go to the party.”
He turned your body to face his, a serious look on his face, “I’m serious, though, if you don’t feel comfortable going we can just...”
“We’re going,” you replied confidently, hiding the nerves bubbling inside of your chest, “And what you’re not gonna do is worry about me and instead let loose and have fun.”
“I always worry about you babe, but thank you. I don’t deserve you.” He gave you a kiss on your forehead before he led you to follow the crowd in the direction of the chaos.
_________________________
It was 2 hours into the party when you lost your boyfriend. He had been glued to your side the whole night in an attempt to make you feel comfortable, but once the guys tried to drag him into a game of beer pong after you had begun to strike up a conversation with a girl from your math class, you convinced him to go have fun, assuring him you would be fine. You weren’t one to drink so you had been nursing a beer all night long which only gave you a slight buzz. Shawn on the other hand was about 3 drinks in and had reached the point where you knew he was going to have a nasty hangover the next day. You couldn’t blame him though, you had actually promoted it when one of his teammates, Brian, had handed him another drink. “Shawn, I promise I’ll stay sober so you can have fun,” you had told him, but he protested, claiming that he didn’t want to ruin your night. However, you happened to love drunk Shawn because although you didn’t see him often, he was known to be extremely cute and clingy even if his energy was also to the max.
You followed the loud yells coming from within the house only to find Brian standing on top of the beer pong table in victory as Shawn laughed beneath him. Two guys you recognized as some of his teammates grimaced on the side as they took a swig of an unknown substance, immediately souring their faces in disgust. “Hey bubs,” you placed a tender hand on his shoulder, causing Shawn’s face to turn around with a dopey grin on his face.
“Babyyyyy,” he cooed, wrapping his arms around you, “I missed you.”
You could smell the alcohol on his breath, but you chose to ignore it, focusing on the feeling of being in his arms instead, “I missed you too, did you and Brian win your game?”
“We did! Baby, I’m so good at beer pong,” he mumbled into your hair as his hands roamed your sides, “I should play you sometime.”
“Nah, I’d rather play on your team.”
“Will you lovebirds stop hanging on each other over there, I need my beer pong partner back!”
Shawn’s head perked up after hearing Brian’s words and he pulled you in front of him, back to his chest with his arms still wrapped around you. “I’m not your partner anymore I’m hers,” he said confidently, placing his head on top of yours, “You wanna play us, Craigen?”
“I don’t want to drink anything, Shawn,” you whispered to him while Brian went on the hunt to find a partner.
“I know,” he took your hand in his, kissing the back lightly, “I’ll drink for you, ok?”
“You really think you need more to drink?” you teased and he laughed, throwing his head back causing him to hiccup. His eyes widened at his own actions and a giggle escaped his lips, “Probably not, but I’ve got a pretty girl that’ll take care of me.”
“Oh, I’ve gotta take care of you?’
“You don’t have to, but you’re the only one I want to,” he showed his puppy dog eyes, even though you were fully planning on ensuring he got home safely, “Pleaseeee.”
“I’m just messing with you,” you told him, ruffling through his curls, “I’ll always take care of you.” Just then, Brian came back with his newest victim, giving the both of you a mouthful after you pecked his lips before starting the game. Shawn wasn’t lying, even drunk he was good at beer pong allowing you to win even though you only made 3 throws. Brian’s team still managed to make a considerable amount of cups which led to your beloved boyfriend becoming even drunker than he already was. Once the clock hit 3 am and Shawn began suggesting that you join in on the body shots that people were beginning to do in the kitchen, you decided that it was time to bring your champion home.
_________________________
“Come on, bubs, let’s get you out of these clothes.” Shawn was busy mumbling something incoherent as you stumbled into his dorm room and placed him on the bed. You knew Brian was probably not coming back tonight, so you weren’t worried about him barging into the room in the middle of the night. You lightly tugged on his alcohol stained shirt, a result of him getting a little clumsy during his second round of beer pong, “You gotta help me a little bit here, big guy.”
He lifted his arms up to help you out, eyes glazed over as he sat on the edge of his bed, “’M tired.”
“I know, bubs,” you sighed, beginning to unbutton his pants, “Just gotta get you into some clean clothes.”
“Hey, missy, no funny business there,” he slurred out with a drunken smile on his lips as he grabbed your wrist from pulling down his pants, earning a giggle from you in response.
“Wouldn’t dream of it, bubs,” successfully tugging his pants off, you reached behind you for the pair of pajama pants you had placed on the dresser and turned back to the giant man child that now had a pout adorning his face.
“You don’t dream of it?” he asked hurt, eyes drooping from the lack of sleep, “But, but, I’m your boyfriend...and you’ve said I’m handsome, and, and I’m hot!”
You laughed at his antics, getting the pants around his ankles and putting your hands in his to help hims stand up. He leaned against your much smaller body as you pulled the waist band up and held his face in your hands. “I think you’re very, very handsome,” you told him, admiring how adorable he looked even with glazed, drunken eyes and a bright pink tint to his cheeks from the alcohol, “I also happen to think you’re the hottest man alive, but you just so happen to be extremely drunk right now which means you need to go to sleep.” Shawn collapsed into your arms, giving you a bone crushing hug as you stumbled back trying to regain your footing.
“I love you,” he mumbled into your shoulder, “so, so much.”
Your heart fluttered at his words. You had only been dating for a little over 5 months, so the words were still very new to the two of you and they almost made you cry at how lucky you were every time he said those 3 simple words. “I love you too, champ. Let’s get you to bed.”
You maneuvered him into the tiny bed of his dorm room and he immediately snuggled into your chest like a little puppy once you laid down. With his head rested comfortably on your chest and his arms wrapped around you, his breathing began to even out while you slowly ran your fingers through his curls, “Goodnight, my little champion.”
_________________________
Your alarm went off at 9am much to your dismay, and you struggled to reach over the curly headed boy on your chest to turn it off. You didn’t have a single clue as to why you still had a lecture today, but you did, and as much as you wanted to just lay in bed all day with your boyfriend, you couldn’t miss one of your hardest lectures. You tried to move out from underneath your giant of a boyfriend earning you a groan while his arms tightened around you. “Shawn, I have to get up,” you whispered, tracing over the freckles on his muscular back.
“Don’t go,” he mumbled into your chest, “Just wanna cuddle for a little bit.”
“I know bubs, but I have to get to class.”
At this, he finally let you leave his strong grasps, grabbing onto the pillow to hold onto in place of you, “What class?”
“Mr. Howard at 11, but I have to go home and get changed.” You had put on the sweatshirt you had under his jersey along with your jeans from the game, knowing you couldn’t just wear the shirt you had stolen from his closet to sleep in last night to walk back to your dorm. “I left you some water and medicine for your head on the nightstand, make sure to get some rest, ok?” you ruffled your hands through his hair and he relaxed further into the mattress from your motions. You gave him a soft kiss on his mass of curls, mumbling an I love you into them, before grabbing your belongings from atop Brian’s bed and turning towards the door.
Shawn grabbed your hand to stop you from leaving, placing the sweetest of kisses on the back of your hand while looking you in the eyes, “I love you more.” Your cheeks heated up at his words and you squeezed his hand lovingly before making your way out of his room.
Walking as fast as you could to your dorm room, you got ready in a hurry, knowing you would have to rush to make your lecture in time due to the extra moments you had spent at Shawn’s place. You put on the first reasonable outfit you could find and packed your bag at a rapid speed in order to make it out the door with 15 minutes to spare. It usually took about 20 minutes for you to walk to class, but you were determined to not be late today. You practically sprinted to the large stone building and managed to walk through the door just as the professor was about to lock it. Giving him a sheepish smile, your eyes searched for an open seat, only to let out a disappointed sigh when you noticed that your typical seat towards the front had been taken. The only available seat was right next to the door and you begrudgingly sat down in it as you took out your laptop to take notes.
30 minutes into the lecture and your brain was fried. Your mind kept on wandering off and daydreaming about being back in bed in Shawn’s arms no matter how much you tried to concentrate. This had to be one of your hardest lectures, but you were having such a hard time focusing that you were wondering if you should just pack your things and leave. The growling of your stomach cut off your thoughts and made you realize that you hadn’t eaten or drank anything before coming to class, which was definitely taking a toll on you. You sighed, looking back up at the professor when you heard the door of the lecture hall closing. Whipping your head around, you couldn’t see anyone entering the room so you focused your thoughts back to the screen with a confused look on your face. As you went to move your laptop to better see your professor, your eyes were drawn to something that had definitely not been on your desk a few seconds prior. A white cup of tea, noticeably from the school’s cafe, was sitting right on the corner of your desk, staring back at you. Tentatively, you picked it up, turning it around in your hands only to be met with Shawn’s signature handwriting written in Sharpie.
A hot hibiscus tea with one scoop of sugar.
Sorry if I made you late to class today, thank you for taking care of me beautiful.
Love you loads, Shawn aka Bubs aka your Champ aka Best Boyfriend ever
P.S. because you’re an amazing girlfriend and you spent the whole night making sure I didn’t kill myself I’m taking you out tonight. I’m picking you up at 7, dress warm;)
You bit your lip to hide the wide grin forming on your face and suddenly, you wanted to get out of class as soon as possible for a completely different reason. The lecture seemed to drag on for hours and the moment your professor was finished you were rushing out the door to your dorm. You still had almost 6 hours left to kill before Shawn picked you up, so you texted him letting you know that you were done with class as you began to distract yourself with homework and notes from other classes. Once 6pm approached, you heart was beating rapidly with excitement and you decided it wasn’t too early to get ready. You didn’t quite know what to wear when he said dress warm because the weather was considerably nice outside and did not require a warmer dress code. Nevertheless, you decided to put on one of Shawn’s hockey sweatshirts that had his name printed on the back in bold with the school’s logo on the front and some warm leggings underneath.
7 o’clock rolled around as a knock sounded on your door. Opening it up to reveal your perfect boyfriend, you launched yourself into his arms which he responded to by pulling you closer with a light laugh, “Hi baby.”
“Hi handsome,” you giggled as he looked at you sheepishly while holding out a bouquet of yellow roses to you, which he just happened to know were your favorite, as if it was your first date all over again. You thanked him with a blush on your face and a kiss to his cheek, causing his face to light up pink when you turned around, just from your presence.
“That’s an awfully nice sweatshirt you got there.”
You laughed as he made his way into your dorm room, wrapping his arms around you from behind while you were finding a place to put the flowers, “I got it from the greatest college hockey player I know.”
“I’m the only college hockey player you know,” he pointed out as you turned around in his hold.
“Exactly,” you teased and he feigned offense, pinching your sides lightly in protest and pouting out his lips. You leaned up to kiss the pout off his lips and he immediately deepened the kiss, pushing his body closer to yours until he suddenly came to his senses and pulled away, “Stop distracting me woman, we have places to be.” With that he grabbed your hand and began to pull you out of the dorms and towards his jeep, the two of you laughing the entire way.
_________________________
The drive to your unknown location took less than 10 minutes and before you knew it, Shawn was pulling into a parking stop at the school’s hockey stadium. “What are we doing here?” you curiously asked through giggles from the last joke he had just told you.
“I may or may not have gotten the rink free for tonight so we could skate together,” he confessed, a bashful blush on his cheeks as he got out of the jeep and came around to open your door.
“How did you manage that?”
“Being the school’s star player and captain does have its perks. You’re practically dating a celebrity baby.”
“Oh shut up,” you pushed him jokingly and he retaliated quickly, lifting you over his shoulder and running towards the door.
“Shawn! Let me down!” you laughed as your arms tried to grab onto a part of his muscular back to no avail. He grabbed your legs to insure you wouldn’t fall and spun you around one last time once he reached the entrance, putting you down gently. Shawn opened the door for you, the stadium feeling oddly empty with how quiet it was. Guiding you towards the rink, Shawn felt his heart bubble in anticipation at the thought of having his girl alone with him in his favorite place to just skate around. He handed you a pair of skates that he had already placed on a bench for you, having asked your roommate for your shoe size earlier in the day. “I haven’t been ice skating in about 5 years,” you admitted, a nervous chuckle leaving your lips. How you managed to have a star hockey player as your boyfriend when you could hardly skate on two feet you didn’t know, and even though you knew Shawn wouldn’t judge you for your skills, or lack of for that matter, you still felt a tad bit embarrassed.
“Don’t worry, hun,” he told you as he helped you lace up your skates, “I’ll hold your hand every second we’re out there.” With one last tug on the laces, he patted your skate securely, looking up at you with doe-like eyes, “How do they feel?”
“Perfect,” you leaned down and pecked his lips before he sat down next to you to begin his own skates. Taking your hand in his, he pulled you onto your wobbily feet and led you towards the ice.
“Now I’m gonna get on first, just hold onto my hands.” This wasn’t your forte for sure, but Shawn was a patient teacher and after a few laps around the rink, you were feeling much more confident, probably a little too confident. You had been skating for about 45 minutes when you had suggested that he taught you how to skate backwards. Shawn’s face had lit up, loving every second of you being interested in something he loved and he immediately turned himself around to hold your hands to show you how to start. For a beginner, you weren’t doing awful, but you were far from perfect and that became clear when your feet fell out from underneath you. Shawn wrapped his arms around you just as you were about to fall on your butt, effectively having you land on top of him on the ice, the both of you laughing your heads off.
Once the laughter began to settle, Shawn’s eyes began to turn softer, the lights inside of the rink making them glow brighter than usual. “How’d I get so lucky?” he mumbled to himself as he tucked a stray piece of hair behind your ear, but you heard it loud and clear.
“I ask myself that everyday, bubs.”
He cradled the back of your head in his hand, lifting his head to meet your lips in a passionate kiss. “I love you,” you whispered softly against his lips.
“I love you too, baby. You mean more to me than any hockey championship I could ever win.”

I sprinted into the LFG lobby, out of breath. I was late. Again.
Cindy spotted me, and quickly gestured towards the stairs. “He’s been waiting for you, go on up.” I groaned, still out of breath, then crossed the lobby. Great, I thought as I ran up the stairs. Another lecture on punctuality, coming right up. I stopped before the office door, taking a moment to catch my breath before knocking.
“Come in,” came the clipped reply. Even better, it sounded like he was already in a bad mood. This should be fun. I entered, closing the door behind me. Victor was sitting at his desk, skimming something on his computer. He looked up, removing his glasses and placing them next to his desk calendar. “It is 2:33.”
I grimaced. “I’m sorry.”
His normal poker face had been replaced with a scowl. “What time did I say to be here?”
“2:30.” It didnt matter how close we had become, some things never changed. When at work, Victor was always in prime CEO mode, any trace of my shy and sweet boyfriend disappearing the moment he walked in the office doors.
“It seems your memory is indeed working today, despite all evidence to the contrary. So perhaps you like to explain why that was not the time you entered my office?” Being on the receiving end of a Victor-Li-is-irked glare was never a good experience, but unfortunately, that was often the position I found myself in.
“Our printer jammed at the last second, and wouldn’t print a contract that my 1:30 client needed to sign before they could leave, so I was stuck there calling maintenance and then waiting for them to show up, and then waiting for them to fix it, and then--”
“Stop. I’ve heard enough.” He rubbed his temples, eyes closed. “You do realize this is the modern era, yes? Contracts can be sent over email, and signed digitally. We will need to discuss your company’s disturbing lack of adaptation to current technology at another time; you have wasted enough of it already. Begin your report.”
“Right.” I pulled out my newly purchased tablet and cleared my throat. “As you can see, we exceeded our predicted revenue this month. Views that we lost last week were not just recovered, but doubled.” I fidgeted a bit under his intense stare.
“I implemented the ideas we discussed last week, and they were successful  For future consideration, I’d like to bring to your attention--”
The soft whirring of the air conditioning of the building sputtered to a startling halt. I paused, and looked at Victor for direction. He sighed, and picked up the phone on his desk when it began to ring. “Speak.” I heard a hurried voice on the other end, and watched Victor’s frown deepen. “What?” More frantic explanation from the voice, trying to appease him, and then Victor hung up.
“Something wrong?” I asked, hoping that an urgent matter had come up, so that I could move my report to later when he would hopefully be in a better mood.
“The air conditioning stopped working. It will take a few hours to fix.” I groaned internally. It was the middle of July, peak season for hot days, and Victor’s office was directly in the sun’s path at the moment, the windows offering no protection from its heat. He shed his suit jacket, draping it over the arm of his chair. “Continue,” he commanded.
“Uh,” I scrambled to remember my place. “For future consideration, I’d like to bring to your attention trendlines predicting future revenue on episodes based on current events.” I began to sweat, already missing the almost too cold climate I had complained about in the past, and vowed to never do so again.
“Our most popular episodes to date have been ones related to current issues in the news. Our recent collaboration with Loveland TV gave us access to topics and resources that we might not have had otherwise. Therefore, I propose that we begin a new series to be aired in conjunction with local news stations beyond just Loveland TV that would cover oddities addressed in daily reports.”
Ok, the heat had officially become unbearable. I took off my white cardigan, putting in on top of my bag. Victor did a double-take, eyes widening. Uh oh. I forgot how casual my dress was. I tried to distract him with the report. “The series would cover not just super powers, but also delve into the psyche--”
“Stop, stop.” Crap. He was still staring at my dress. “What do you think you’re wearing?!”
“Uh, a sundress?” I responded dumbly. He glared at me. I fumbled for an excuse, though not knowing why I needed one exactly. “It’s the middle of July. I know it’s not formal business attire without the cardigan, but it’s hot in here without the AC. I thought you would understand that and be ok with me not wearing it considering the circumstances.”
He gaped, apparently shocked. “You thought wrong. Do you seriously not realize how alluring that dress is?”
Wait what? “Huh?”
He shook his head. “Dummy, you are astoundingly naive sometimes. Wearing that to any presentation, including this one, leads the audience to focus not on your proposal, but your physical assets.” I blushed, and covered myself a bit with my arms. He continued. “For example, I missed everything you presented after taking off your cardigan. Be thankful this was only a weekly report meeting, and not an official proposal for more funding with the entire board present.” He leaned forward and placed his elbows on the desk.
I looked down, ashamed. “I really am sorry, Victor. That would have embarrassed both Miracle Company and you; I understand now and I will do better in the future.”
“No, you misunderstand me.” He stood, and strode quickly towards me, crossing the room in a few broad steps. He grabbed my shoulders and forced me to look him in the eye. “The only person who should see you in outfits of this nature is me.” It was the hunger in his eyes that made me realize I was no longer talking to the CEO of LFG, but Victor Li, my protective and now aroused boyfriend.
Desperate lips met mine, taking my breath away. I was always weak for his kisses, this time literally. My knees gave in a bit, and I held onto his arms as he pushed deeper. I eagerly reciprocated, a need for his touch growing rapidly under my navel. We broke apart for only a moment, before he claimed my lips again and ran strong fingers up my neck and into my hair, gently nudging my face closer to his.
Victor was not a man of many flowery words, but he made up for it in his actions. Every kiss we shared was so fervent that you would think it was going to be our last. Even in moments of raw passion, it was obvious how deeply he cared for me, and I fell more in love with him each time our lips united. This kiss was no exception; I sank into his yearning for me, throwing my arms around his neck.
Suddenly, strong arms wrapped around my thighs, and I felt myself being lifted into the air. I scrambled to wind my legs around his waist, holding him tighter. We were intimately closer than before, and I could feel his heart pounding in his chest. It amazed me that I could have such an effect on the seemingly stoic mogul, that I could be the one to break his cool. His lips captured mine once more, then he impatiently moved us towards his desk.
“Hold tight,” he instructed, using one arm to awkwardly clear off the desktop, sending pens and his mouse flying. He set me atop it, beginning to suck at the pulse point above my collarbone, when reality hit me.
“Wait, stop,” I whispered harshly. He immediately backed away, arms to his side.
“What’s wrong?” Concern overtook ardor, and he scanned my figure. “Did I hurt you?” That thought seemed to shake him a bit.
“No, nothing like that,” I quickly reassured him. “But...should we really be doing this in your office? People might hear, or worse, what if someone came in?”
His confidence immediately returned, desire resuming its place in his eyes as I mentioned others overhearing our stolen moment of passion. He smirked, leaning in close.
“Let them hear.” He continued his attack on my neck, but I wouldn’t be swayed just yet.
“Victor,” I chided. “I’m not comfortable with someone catching us in your office. That wouldn’t look good for either of us.” He stopped, judging my sincerity, then walked away.
“Wait, where are you going?” I asked, reaching out an arm towards him needily, missing his warmth already. Had I angered him?
“Relax, dummy.” He strode up to the door and turned the lock, its satisfying click signaling his intentions. He turned and smiled devilishly. “No one is going anywhere until we are finished.”
He hastened back to me, as if I were his prey, strung up and waiting for him on a platter. He kissed me again, and loosened his tie to quell the sweltering heat. I grabbed for his shirt, undoing the first few buttons before he stopped me with a lick to a particularly sensitive area behind my earlobe. He undid his tie the rest of the way and set it down beside me on the desk. I finished unbuttoning his shirt, untucking it roughly. I gulped upon being met with the sight of his broad chest. As if controlled by some unknown force, my hands ran over his torso, brushing his collarbone and hips alike, searching for any point of contact with him.
He placed feather light kisses all over my face and neck, brushing my cheek; my eyelids; the small v formed by my collarbones. As lovely as his display of affection was--and it truly was; not often did we get a chance to bask in the other’s devotion--it wasn’t quite enough. I needed more.
I ran my hands down his abdomen, grabbing for his belt buckle, but he caught my hand in his and tsked.
“Someone needs to learn to be patient.” His hands left me, and I let out a whine. He picked up the flimsy piece of fabric that lay beside me and wrapped it around my face, covering my eyes.
“Is this okay?” I heard a soft whisper beside my left ear.
His breath tickled me a bit, paused in anticipation of my answer. I hold absolute control over him at this moment, I realized with a small gasp. The power was a heady feeling; Loveland’s most eligible ‘bachelor’ was all mine, treating me as if I was some queen to be worshipped. Although he was leading most of the action, I held the ropes. And I would be ever so careful not to abuse this gift. What’s more, after years of having to take care of myself on my own, I now could trust him. Completely.
“Yes.”
That one word spurred him back into action. He quickly fastened the makeshift blindfold behind my head, careful to avoid knotting my hair with it. I heard a low groan, and then my skirt was pushed up, warm hands rubbing slow circles on my inner thighs.
“You have no idea what you do to me,” he murmured, his lips brushing mine, sending shivers down my spine. "There is nothing I would not do to keep you safe and happy."
I bucked my hips towards his, searching for any friction to relieve my need. Suddenly, I felt a hand over my underwear, massaging my clit leisurely. I let out a breathy moan. Finally. His steady fingers ran back and forth across the fabric, gentle yet firm in their ministrations. "Faster, please Victor," I gasped, spreading my legs. He obeyed, for once, going faster and faster until all fear of others intruding disappeared. I could only think about him, his touch, and my palpable desire to become one with him.
I could feel a flush rise in my cheeks, the sounds coming from my mouth garbled and brimming with pleasure. I reached blindly for him, needing to touch him for stability; so that I could hold off my climax a little longer, but was met only with air. I let out a whine. I heard a chuckle from somewhere in front of me. Seconds later, strong hands guided mine to his shoulders; his warm body moved closer, parting my legs further.
I was already beyond wet by this point, and I felt ready for him but knowing Victor, he wouldn't enter me until he was sure I was relaxed and ready for him. "Please, hurry up, I need you, now," I urged.
Surprisingly, he decided to grant my request. I heard the soft clink of a belt buckle being undone followed by a rustling of fabric. I hooked my ankles behind him, wanting, no, needing him in me as soon as humanly possible. A hand ran through my hair, and then my underwear was pushed to the side;  in one fluid motion he had both lifted me into the air and entered me with a soft moan. I gasped, throwing my head back and digging my fingers into the well-defined muscles of his shoulders.
The sensation of him inside me was more intense in the dark. I felt so safe, protected and satisfied in his arms. It was as if all my fears and worries had melted away. I knew that he would shield me from any incoming darkness that dared to threaten me. He pulled back for a moment, then slowly slid inside me once more, giving me time to adjust and savor the feeling of us, united as one.
We maintained a comfortable rhythm, my hips grinding down to meet his as I panted against his neck. There was no need for words; anything that needed to be said was communicated through movement and small gasps and moans. I realized that I could no longer hear the ticking of the wall clock, its telling absence revealing that time was no longer in motion.
I drew in a breath to mention it, but he suddenly changed to a different angle, shifting me in his arms, and sparks burst behind my eyelids. “Don’t you dare stop, right--right there!” I practically screamed. He hummed in confirmation, building speed. I let out a series of whines, bouncing down into his thrusts in desperation to add to the surging, rising tide of pleasure that's only just out of reach. I could hear Victor’s pleasure as well in the short, cut off breaths he let out.
“Are you close,” he ground out, ever the gentleman in refusing to come before me.
“Very,” I replied, concentrating on my climax, adding a finger to my clit. A few more strokes, and it hit me--hard. I screamed out his name and clenched around him. He gasped, and I felt a warmth inside me as he tightened his grip on me. The waves of pleasure taking hold of me ebbed slowly; suddenly, I could see again, tie dropping to the floor.
Victor cradled me close and kissed the top of my head. We remained entangled in each other’s embrace for a few moments longer, catching our breath. He slid out of me, but didn’t let me go. I buried my face in his neck, flushing at the whispered “I love you” that came from beside my ear.
Suddenly, the ticking resumed and the space that was only ours returned to being shared with the rest of the world. I was gently set down on the desk, and I grabbed a tissue to clean myself up. We began to redress and had almost finished when there was a knock at the door.
“Sir, the mechanics from Four Seasons Heating and Air have arrived,” Goldman’s voice came from behind the solid wood. “Would you like to direct them or should I handle it?”
Victor gestured at my cardigan, “That goes on; tightly,” he said in a low voice, then he grabbed his suit jacket and approached the door. I buttoned it quickly, barely finishing in time before he swung the door open.
There was an awkward silence as Goldman took in our appearance. He did a quick double take, then stammered an apology. “Sir, I--uh--”
I flushed brightly; there was no way to conceal what we had been up to. Only Victor stood stoic as always, not caring about our disheveled state or the smudge of my lipstick on the corner of his mouth. “Mark me as booked for the next two hours,” he announced, glancing at his watch. “I expect the air conditioning to be up and running when I return.”
“Next two hours--but sir! You have the meeting with the investors from--” Goldman was cut off with a glare. Typical. I felt sorry for him.
“Did I ask for any feedback? I said that I am booked for the next two hours. Make any schedule changes necessary in my absence.” He put an arm around my waist and led me out of the room in the direction of the elevator.
“But sir!” Victor paid him no mind and as the door closed, he pulled me into another kiss.
“How do you feel about lunch at Souvenir?”
“Mm, sounds great!” I replied, smoothing down his slightly rumpled shirt. Oh! Pulling back with a smile, I suddenly laughed. “Victor!”
He frowned. “What.”
“You forgot your tie!”

Hi Nonny!!
AHHH okay so my last proposals fic rec list is REALLY old and in my old format that is gross and ugly and hard to read, so you know what? I’m starting over, and getting a nice fresh coat of paint on these gross cute fics! <3 Hope you enjoy! <3 Promises of Forever and “fake” proposals are included on this one too! <3 I’ve probably missed a few, so check out the See Also lists just to make sure LOL <3
PROPOSALS (May 2020)

Weddings / Proposals / Husbands and Established Relationship
Established Relationship Pt 2 (June 2019)
Sherlock and John’s Wedding
New World, Old Words by thedeafwriter (G, 641 w., 1 Ch. || Deaf Sherlock, Sherlock Whump, Pining Sherlock, Marriage Proposal, Fluff, Always John) – It was disconcerting to experience. One second, he was laying on the table, breathing in the gas that would make him sleep, the next, he was dragging his eyes open to look around the bright room, trying to wake up.
This Isn't About the Bathtub by cypress_tree (G, 1,142 w., 1 Ch. || Marriage Proposal) – John and Sherlock go to Angelo's for dinner. In both of their pockets are rings they are going to propose with, but the other has no idea. John proposes first, and Sherlock answers by pulling out his engagement ring.
Our Bodies Bend Light by lovetincture (G, 1,211 w., 1 Ch. || Established Relationship, Fluff, Domestic Fluff, Beekeeping, Retirement) – They got married. Of course they got married. Snapshots in a relationship. There's a jar of bees in the bookstore and a cottage in Sussex. Sherlock's not the marrying kind, and John's tried this once before, but they're Sherlock and John. Of course.
A Metaphorical Gesture by cyparissus (T, 1,578 w., 1 Ch. || Marriage Proposal, Fluff) – "Sherlock, are you--" the words die in John's throat and he has to swallow and start again, "Are you asking me to marry you?"
and yes I said yes I will Yes by Mithen (T, 1,662 w., 1 Ch. || Fluff, Humour, Est. Rel. Marriage Proposal) – Sherlock has deduced that John is going to propose to him, and he's ready to accept. If only John would actually get around to it...
The Marriage Proposal Negotiation by Goddess_of_the_Night (G, 2,161 w., 1 Ch. || Dev. Rel., Possessive Sherlock, Insecure Sherlock, Fluff, First Kiss, Post Mary) – Sherlock hasn't ever really done anything the traditional way, so of course it wouldn't bother him to propose to John even though they're not even dating. And the fact that John is already on a date with someone else when he decides to do it? Tedious.
You Know, The Old Saying by songlin (T, 2,248 w., 1 Ch. || Wedding, Marriage Proposal, Fluff, Engagement) – "Marry me. I need to have you forever." Unrepentant husbands!Johnlock fluff.
Extraordinary by genesius (G, 2,860 w., 1 Ch. || Marriage Proposal, Sherlock Plays the Violin, Established Relationship, Morse Code, Fluff, One Shot) – Sherlock's deduced that John's going to Italy to buy him a violin. Even the greatest detective alive makes a few mistakes.
The General Idea by agirlsname (T, 3,022 w., 1 Ch. || Retirement, Promise of Forever / Proposal, POV John, First Kiss, Tooth-Rotting Fluff, Soft Sherlock, Idiots in Love, Crying / Emotional Sherlock, Love Confessions) – After twenty years of friendship, John is used to Sherlock acting weirdly. But the news Sherlock finally brings himself to deliver change the carefully built dynamics between them, and John realises it's time to act.
Engaged by lifeonmars (NR, 3,146 w., 1 Ch. || Marriage Proposal, Fluff, Holmes Family, Song Fic) – Sherlock did not believe in marriage, but he wanted to be married. He found this something of a surprise. Part 2 of Damage
And as the seasons change, I love you more by Teatrolley (NR, 3,219 w., 1 Ch. || Fluff and Angst, Est. Rel., Marriage / Proposal) – A year in the lives of John and Sherlock, essentially.
Bagged & Tagged by Regency (T, 3,339 w., 1 Ch. || Drunken Confessions, Fluff and Crack, Marriage Proposal) – A very inebriated John devises a clever means of proposing marriage to Sherlock. Unfortunately he's forgotten all about it by the next morning.
Rumpled by WhimsicalEthnographies (E, 3,601 w., 1 Ch. || Est. Rel., Insecure Sherlock, Fluff, PWP, Proposal, Bottomlock) – Then, halfway through a documentary on river otters that neither of them was paying attention to--how could John, with a gangly, limp consulting detective practically purring in his lap?--Sherlock suddenly bolted upright, looked at John with a perplexed expression and a crinkle above his nose, and blurted, “Marry me.” Part 4 of Longitudinal Cohort
Bolt Holes by PostcardsfromTheoryland (T, 4,177 w., 1 Ch. || H/C, Angst, Drug Mentions, Pining Sherlock) – John asked, one evening, if Sherlock liked her. To which he grudgingly had to say yes, and John said he was glad. Because John was going to propose to her.
Unforgiven by 221b_hound (M, 4,721 w., 1 Ch. || Marriage Proposal, Victor Trevor, Jealous / Protective John, Jealous Sherlock, Sherlock’s Past) – Sherlock’s latest case is for his ex boyfriend, the brilliant and handsome Professor Victor Trevor. John is not too happy about that. But things aren’t what they seem, an old friend of John’s is involved in the case, and John has a few surprises up his sleeve. Also - a proposal! Part 16 of Unkissed
Applied Linguistics by what_alchemy (M, 4,837 w., 1 Ch. || Possessive / Anxious Sherlock, Introspection, Bed Sharing, Past John Whump, Est. Rel., Marriage Proposal, Sherlock Loves John So Much, Word Play) – “He wants to shake John by the shoulders, wants to open his mouth and swallow John whole. Wants to marry him.” Sherlock searches for the right words.
What Happens in Vegas (is legally binding in the United Kingdom) by  moonblossom (E, 5,051 w., 1 Ch. || Accidental Marriage, Friends to Husbands to Lovers, CSI Crossover, Fluff & Porn, Bathtub Sex, Hand Jobs, First Time) – When a case sends the boys to Vegas, John comes out of it with a bit more than he bargained for. Part 19 of Prompt Fills, Remixes, Works inspired by others
My First, My Only, and My Forever by vintagelilacs (E, 6,220 w., 1 Ch. || Post-ASiB, Virgin Sherlock, Pining Sherlock, Sherlock’s Bum, John’s Scar, Sherlock POV, Body Worship, Fingering, Bottomlock, Promise of Forever / Proposals, Misunderstanding, First Kiss/Time, Loss of Virginity, Virginity Kink, Seduction) – Sherlock narrowed his eyes. He was missing a vital piece of data, he was sure. John had been looking at him oddly ever since they left Buckingham Palace, and the ensuing incident with Irene Adler had only exacerbated his erratic behaviour. What was it? Why would he care that Sherlock was a virgin? There was nothing reminiscent of mockery or pity in his gaze. And then it hit him. John Watson was aroused.
A Silver Sixpence by _doodle (NC-17, 16,400 w., 2 Ch. || LJ Fic || For a Case / Case Fic, Fake Relationship, Humour, Romance, Marriage Proposal, Awkward Idiots, Cuddling, Touching, Kissing, Love Confessions, Bed Sharing, Friends to Lovers, Fake Until It’s Not, Schmoop and Fluff, Bottomlock) – “John, we need to get married. It’s for a case, not any romantic notions on my part pertaining to our partnership,” Sherlock said, with brutal honesty, and without even looking up.
Never-Ending Cycle by orphan_account (T, 17,211 w., 1 Ch. || Christmas, Est. Rel., Proposal, Fluff) – Or, four times Sherlock Holmes attempted to propose to John Watson, and the Christmas Party at which he finally did. Sherlock thinks he's a miserable failure, John is confused, Mrs. Hudson and Lestrade provide some unsatisfactory advice, and Mummy is, as always, the solution. All in a lovely, fluffy holiday theme.
About Sleep and Coffee and the Existence of Fate by Atiki (E, 17,426 w., 6 Ch. || Fluff, Marriage Proposal, Humour, 5+1) – Naturally, John was startled when suddenly the ultimate solution occurred to him: Marriage. This was, of course, a bit of a fundamental problem rather than an actual solution. One didn't simply use the words “Sherlock” and “marriage” within the same sentence. Not even in a hypothetical context. Five times John kind of wanted to propose to Sherlock, and one time he didn’t have to.
Permanent Fixture by vitruvianwatson (E, 18,836 w., 9 Ch || Post-S4, Parentlock, Slow Build, Friends to Lovers, They’re Good Parents, Blushing Sherlock, First Kiss/Time, Explicit Consent, Sexual Content, Emotional Hurt/Comfort, Mutual Pining, Big Feelings, Crying, First Kiss, Fluff, Anxious Sherlock, Inexperienced Sherlock, Emotional Communication, Love Confessions) – Now, as Rosie sat curled up against Sherlock’s side, John watched and wondered exactly how he had ended up here. Domesticity had never suited him before, not at any point in his life. His disastrous marriage had been proof of that. But somehow, here in the warmth and safety of 221B Baker Street, here with Sherlock Holmes reading medical jargon to his daughter, Sherlock’s bony feet nudging against his leg, John couldn’t imagine anyplace that would make him happier.
The One With the Proposal by kim47 (E, 22,375 w., 3 Ch. || Fluff, Romance, Marriage Proposal) – Proposing shouldn't be this difficult.
Sonatina in G Minor by SilentAuror (E, 22,574 w., 1 Ch. || Case Fic, POV Sherlock, Angst, UST, Sherlock’s Violin, Post-S3, Romance) – John has come back to Baker Street, but Sherlock doesn't understand the strange tension between them, even after he begins teaching John to play the violin at John's request.
a good old-fashioned happy ending by darcylindbergh (E, 32,731 w., 26 Ch. || Christmas, Frottage, Comfort, Est. Rel., Fluff, Insecure Sherlock, Frottage, Nightmares, Sleepy Sherlock, Marriage Proposal, Humour, Fluff, Dancing, Cooking, Happy Ending) – For Christmas this year, Sherlock wants to get John something special: something every fairytale deserves. Part 2 of things fairy tales are made of
Only To Be With You by SinceWhenDoYouCallMe_John (M, 40,768 w., 4 Ch. || Black Mirror / Future AU || Character Death, Future Technology, Sickness/Cancer/Illness, Heavy Angst with Happy Ending, First Person POV John, Pining John, Heart-Wrenching Angst, Promise of Forever) – I tell myself that next time I’ll come near this same place again. Wait around for the mysterious stranger in his coat to dash past me, hot on the heels of a new criminal in black. I think this all the way back to my Exit, planning where I’ll wait and what I’ll say when I see him. Scheming on how to get his name. It’s only once I reach the Exit Point door that I realize two hours and forty-five minutes have passed, and I realize that this won’t be the last time I Visit. It won’t be the last time at all.
The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse by SilentAuror (E, 50,635 w., 1 Ch. || Post-S4/S4 Divergence, Case Fic, For a Case / Reverse Fake-Relationship, Conferences, Marriage Equality, Travelling / New York, Pride, Homophobia, Bottomlock, Marriage Proposal, John POV, Sexuality, Love Confessions, Emotional Love Making, Public Hand Jobs, Blow Jobs, Passionate Kissing, Needy/Clingy Sherlock, Virgin Sherlock, Touching / Hand Holding, Bed Sharing, Little Spoon Sherlock, Intense Orgasms) – John and Sherlock go to New York to attend a conference run by the National Defence of Traditional Marriage Coalition in order to investigate the potential bombing of the annual Manhattan Pride parade. As the conference unfolds, John finds himself repulsed by the toxic ideology being presented, which becomes relevent to his own unacknowledged issues and his friendship with Sherlock...
Bridging the Ravine by SilentAuror (E, 58,887 w., 3 Ch. || Post S4, Couple For a Case, Bed-Sharing, First Times, Confessions, Awkwardness, Sex Trafficking, Massages, Wet T-Shirt Contest, Group Therapy, Past Loss of Child) – Sherlock and John go undercover at Ravine Valley, a therapy centre for same-sex male couples in an investigation into a possible human trafficking ring. As they pose as a couple and fake their way through the therapy sessions for the sake of the case, it quickly becomes difficult to avoid discussing their very real issues. Set roughly six nine months after series 4.
The Burning by SrebrnaFH (M, 60,658 w., 24 Ch. || Reverse Reichenbach, Suicide, Depression, Hurt Sherlock / John, Separation, BAMF John, Good Big Brother Mycroft, Angst, Implied/Referenced Torture, Fake Character Death, Rescue Mission, Reconciliation / Reunion, Hospitalization, Marriage Proposal, Illnesses, Physical Therapy, Happily Ever After) – Something went very, very wrong. John had seemed, if not happy, then reasonably content with his life. Sherlock had never predicted something like THIS might have happened. Not in his worst nightmares. He was the lousiest friend ever, apparently. At least Mycroft found him something to occupy his mind with, so that he didn't have to go back to 221B and stare at the walls and the chair, where John Watson would never sit again.
The Bells of King's College by SilentAuror (E, 64,019 w., 5 Ch. || Post-S4, Missed Opportunities, Angst with Happy Ending, Fake Relationship, Case Fic, John POV, Jealous John, John in Denial, Travelling / Holidays, Virgin Sherlock, Wedding Proposals) – It's only been two weeks since Eurus Holmes disrupted their lives when Mycroft sends John and Sherlock to Cambridge to pose as an engaged couple at a wedding show in the hopes of solving six unsolved deaths...
The Wedding Garments by cwb (E, 105,390 w., 36 Ch. || PODFIC AVAILABLE || Alternate Future AU || Alternate First Meeting, Dating / Arranged Marriages, Romance, First Kiss/Time, Heavy Petting, Cuddles, POV Sherlock, Virgin Sherlock, Idiots in Love, Slow Burn / Falling in Love / Dev. Rel., Nervous/Anxious Sherlock, Jealous/Cranky, Hiking, Vacation Homes / Honeymoon, Sherlock’s Family, Horny John/Sherlock, Patient John, Massages, Hand Jobs, Assassination Plots, Hand Jobs / Oral Sex, Case Fic, Emotional Love Making, Bath Time Fun) – This is the story of a young consulting detective who wants nothing to do with marriage and an army doctor who wants to find true love. It's 2020 post-Brexit England and the British government is encouraging arranged marriages. Candidates meet through state-run agencies and date in hopes of finding love (and tax benefits). Sherlock doesn't need or want a spouse, at least not until John Watson shows up. Hesitant to give in to his more carnal urges because of the way they derail his mind, how will Sherlock progress toward the more intimate aspects of a relationship? The answer lies in a very special wedding gift.
Proving A Point by elldotsee & J_Baillier (E, 186,270 w., 28 Ch. || Me Before You Fusion || Medical Realism, Insecure John, Depression, Romance, Angst, POV John, Sherlock Whump, Serious Illness, Doctor John, Injury Recovery, Assisted Suicide, Sherlock’s Violin, Awkward Sexual Situations, Alcoholism, Drugs, Idiots in Love, Slow Burn, Body Image, Friends to Lovers, Hurt / Comfort, Pain, Big Brother Mycroft, Intimacy, Anxiety, PTSD, Family Issues, Psychological Trauma, John Whump, Case Fics, Loneliness, Pain) – Invalided home from Afghanistan, running out of funds and convinced that his surgical career is over, John Watson accepts a mysterious job offer to provide care and companionship for a disabled person. Little does he know how much hangs in the balance of his performance as he settles into his new life at Musgrave Court.

Hiya! could you please recommend victuuri mutual pining fics? thanks!
I received this ask right after I posted this #newreadsrec of a fic set during the summer of mutual pining™ so I'm guessing you want more of that, nonnie? Happy to oblige and I'm also adding other mutual pining in general fics, including AUs:
Summer of Mutual Pining
hold me tender, hold me sweet by @crossroadswrite [M, 10K]
Here are a couple of things to have in consideration about the scenario Victor finds himself in:
1. Yuuri is wearing three different pairs of very soft looking socks because his feet are very cold, a pair of boxers, Victor’s blanket and nothing else
2.Victor’s never actually helped another omega through a heat. He’s barely had enough heats to know what he’s doing, choosing to supress them until his doctor’s lips were a thin line and they started talking about impact on his performance and making the supressants less effective. There wasn’t really anyone around when he had to have his heats, so it’s not like he even has the experience of watching others do
3.Yuuri’s room smells like sex, strawberry candy and energy drinks
4.Victor likes Yuuri very, very much and he has no idea what to do with himself around him most of the time
(OR: what if heats sucked a little bit and you just cuddled a lot and also being touch starved made you physically ill?)
if you can't sleep, don't count sheep by @lazulisong [G, 5K]
It's maddening to find out how much more he has to learn about Yuri -- but at the same time, Victor is glad of it too.
Lay Your Head by @kiaronna [G, 3K]
By the time they end up sharing a bed, they’ve already slept next to each other everywhere else.
reach out and... by @stammiviktor [T, 2K]
"Please, Yuuri."
resting pulse by @cafecliche [G, 1K]
For something all in his head, it can be brutally physical when it wants to be. But he’s an athlete - he knows how to listen to his body, categorize and interpret its signals. It doesn’t really follow that the smallest twinge in his knee could mean a very bad season at the same time full-blown palpitations mean it’s a day that ends in Y. But bodies are weird.
Victor, though. Victor is a stress test brought to life.
(Or: a story in heartbeats.)
The Boyfriend Series by @japansace [T, 5K]
Summary of first fic
For some inexplicable reason, Yuuri speaks Russian.
Now, as everyone knows, there are only two viable reasons why anyone ever learns a foreign language:
1. For school.
2. To impress a foreign love interest.
And Victor can’t quite bring himself to believe that Yuuri would be at all studious enough to hunt down Russian classes in Detroit of all places.
(Or: Victor gets jealous of a boyfriend that doesn’t exist.)
umineko by @shysweetthing [T, 4K]
Victor has never told anyone that he’s a seagull shifter, which is a perfectly natural thing to be and actually really useful for cross-training as a figure skater, thank you. It’s never really come up, but it turns out that seagulls mate for life, and Yuuri is becoming more and more important to him…
Other Mutual Pining Fics
Be my chef, Yuuri by @n3rdlif343va [M, 88K]
When 28-year-old Victor loses his parents and inherits his family's five-star restaurant, he learns that working for a living is much harder than he anticipated. That's when young, talented chef, Yuuri Katsuki unexpectedly arrives, providing hope in the midst of Victor's chaos.
Can these two work together? Bartender Chris, manager Mila, and sous chef Phichit can't wait to laugh at them as they try to navigate their instant attraction in the most awkward of ways.
Black Ink by Anonymous1313 [Not Rated, 60K] *WIP
Being together was what nature had dictated them to be. Alpha and omega. Their families had thought so too, agreeing to marry them to one another once they were old enough. A joyous union between the Nikiforovs and the Katsukis.
But Viktor had decided that they would not be controlled by what their parents had set out for the both of them at a time in the past when neither he nor Yuuri even knew the other existed.
“I was hoping as soon as you turn eighteen, you’d… sign the termination contract.”
Because after all, he and Yuuri were no good for each other.
...Right?
--
"If… if that's what you really want."
 "It is. I'm sorry."
i will go down with this ship by @thishasbeencary [T, 30K] *WIP
Yuuri and Viktor co-star in the fantasy drama History Makers, a show where their characters Mamoru and Dimitry are shipped by all the fans, which of course leads to the fact that fans also ship Yuuri and Viktor. And write fic about it. Yuuri reads RPF by only one author, therealviknik, and leaves a comment on every single one with his account, katsukiforov. Some fans pick up on the conversations and begin to ship therealviknik with katsukiforov as well.
Phichit ships it all.
never tasted rubies by @ebenroot [T, 17K]
Phichit puts up a poll on the radio website. It reads ‘What Do U Think About Yuuri K. from Hasetsu Nights and the Mysterious Caller Victor?’
Seventy-five percent of listeners said ‘lol they should just f*ck already tbh’.
--
in which Yuuri is an unwilling radio host and Victor won't stop calling in to chat with him
On Online and Offline Love by @alexwspark [M, 33K]
Gaming/Streaming AU: In which Yuuri and Victor are gamers, head over heels for each other, and hoping to one day come face-to-face. Of course, when two whipped, adorable fluff-balls are involved, shenanigans ensue...
The Power of Love by @kiaronna [T, 66K]
“The two Japanese singles medalists make a beautiful pair! Here, at the 2009 Tokyo GPF, we have the start of this power couple’s reign!”
Yuuko and Yuuri dominate the singles skating competition as Japan’s power couple—except they aren’t a couple, and when their old skating idol stumbles into their personal life, everything rapidly goes downhill.
The Secret Lives of Catholic School Boys series by violetlolitapop / @curls-and-cats [T, 72K]
Summary of first fic:
“I’m plenty happy, I know what I am. I’m a godless heathen who is in love with another boy and can’t stop thinking about his ass.”
“Victor!”
“It’s a great ass. Now I’m not Chris, I don’t know much about asses, but he has a great ass. His legs are great too. His whole lower body is great, and I would give a lot to be able to get down on my knees and–“
“Victor!”
“-tie his shoe laces.”
-.-.-
In which Victor confesses to being in love with another boy and makes it difficult for everyone involved.
Other suggestions are welcome but I won't include fics previously recommended under different themes since they're already in the masterlist.

Ron: Welcome to our second Flashback Favourites episode! I’m Ron.
Mon: And I’m Mon. Usually when you think of a Flashback Favourite, you’re thinking about going way back. Not this time. In this Stereo Geeks episode, we’re looking at a film that’s not even a year old.
Birds of Prey: And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn may be a mouthful, but it’s worth every minute of that tongue-twister title.
Ron: Before continuing, please note that this episode includes spoilers for Birds of Prey. If you haven’t watched the film yet, we have to ask? Why are you waiting?
Content warning: some of the content in the film can be triggering, please proceed with caution.
Mon: Written by Christina Hodson and directed by Cathy Yan, Birds of Prey is a vehicle for Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn.
At the start of the film, she and the Joker have broken up, and now Harley’s got a target on her back.
Said target leads her to work for and against the local crime boss—Roman Sionis, aka Black Mask. Played by Ewan McGregor and ably supported by Chris Messina’s Victor Zsasz, these villains are going to soon be up against the Birds of Prey.

Ron: The film introduces us to the future team - Rosie Perez as Renee Montoya, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Helena Bertinelli aka The Huntress and Jurnee Smollett as Dinah Lance aka Black Canary. They’re all embroiled in a hunt for Cassandra Cain (played by Ella Jay Basco).
We were in two minds about going to see this film. People loved Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad, but her character was problematic, to say the least. We were worried that this film would continue in the same vein.
And then came the title—we weren’t sure if it was trying to be precocious or precious. But we held out hope because it was written and directed by two women, and Robbie was also one of the producers.
Mon: When I was asked to review Birds of Prey, I took it as a sign that this film was meant to be something special. And it was!
The film kicks off with giving us a little bit of an intro into Harley’s origin story. There's an animated opening sequence that leads into her being dumped by Joker, though that’s not how she tells the story.
And then she's on her own and it's the first time since her supervillain career started that she's on her own. So how does she work in this new circumstance? Who does she turn to? She doesn't have anybody. Everybody she knows works with the Joker.
Ron: Even the few friends that we see her having outside of her supervillain life, they keep talking about how she's going to go back to the Joker. Because that's what she done a million times. And that hurts her feelings.
Mon: Yeah, I like that the film really tries to subvert everything that we know about Harley or how she's been written all this while, which is exactly what makes it different. And you know from the start that yes this is going to be different because they're treating Harley as a person. Not as Joker squeeze.
And then we meet the other character. How do they play a role in Harley's life? And how do they get involved in the search for Cassandra Cain?
Cassandra lives in the same building as Black Canary. Canary understands some of the problems that Cassandra is going through. She has foster family that obviously have issues; Canary lost her mom when she was very young, so she's had to go through that situation as well.
The person who took her in was Roman Sionis and Canary’s been singing and working with him all this while. Canary gets a promotion with Black Mask when Harley accidentally breaks Black Mask’s driver’s legs, and that's how she becomes a bigger part of Harley’s life.
And aside from that, there is Renee Montoya. She’s a detective. She is desperately trying to take down Roman Sionis, but she can't get any traction from her department.
When Renee comes across the scene of a whole bunch of people who are dead, she can envision who this killer is. But she's not being taken seriously. And you find out why. It's because her former partner took the credit for her work and is now her boss. So, she's been undermined at work all the time, even by this rookie cop who's her partner. It's ridiculous, but it's so real.
And the final piece of the puzzle is Helena Bertinelli. Now, we don't actually see this character till well into the film. And there's a reason why; she's supposed to be the mysterious crossbow killer. So, who she is and how she plays into the final storyline comes to the fore much later in the film.
So, these are the main character and I think they’re the main reason we love this film so much.
What do you like about them?
Ron: Well, from the opening sequence we're just hooked because, even though you and I aren't huge fans of Harley especially because of the Suicide Squad version, the writers give us this quick-fire origin story that made Harley believable and funny.
And her origins were about beating every obstacle to become successful and then chucking it all up for a misguided romance.
And I also love the fact that they, kind of, snuck in Harley's bisexuality, without making a big deal out of it. So that means there's a possibility that we might see her with Poison Ivy, which I understand that Yan is very interested in exploring in Birds of Prey 2.
Tumblr media
But I also love the fact that Harley is just a hot mess. Like the whole thing with her breaking the Black Mask’s driver’s legs, it's because she's super drunk and she just can’t take any crap anymore.
The entire scene where she's at the Black Mask’s club just drinking away and dancing and having the time of her life, all the while knowing that she can only do this because everybody still thinks that she's with the Joker. It's quite an unusual way of exploring the character’s mental state.
And then when she opens up to the Black Canary, it's such a sweet bonding moment even though you can see from Black Canary’s face that, a) she doesn't care, and b) she's also worried about what's going to happen to Harley. I just love that. You don't get to see stuff like that.
Mon: And it's a subversion of what Harley Quinn was like in Suicide Squad, where she is very much on display rather than being a character who's having fun. That's exactly what she does at Black Mask’s club. As long as she has the protection of being Joker's partner, she can have as much fun as she wants, because she's invincible.
But the bubble pops when she confesses to Canary the truth and it's such a believable scene where these two women are bonding at a club; having a good time. And some creepy guy overhears what she's talking about.
That puts Harley in a rather difficult and uncomfortable circumstance, which Canary gets her out of. Despite that fact the two of them, throughout the rest of the movie, continue to have snarky banter. But that scene, where Harley is in danger: we're so used to seeing roguish male characters come to her rescue—the knight in shining armor—but instead we have Canary and she's got this gold trim going on and she's beating people up. I love it. I just love subversion.
Ron: And I also love the fact that Canary doesn't want to get involved and this is unfortunately very true to life. You see something bad happening and sometimes you just don't want to be a part of it because you don't know what's going to happen to you.
Canary is very capable of taking care of herself, so she’s able to get involved. But you see that hesitation in her, even though she knows that if she were in Harley's position, she'd want Harley to come and save her. And she does finally act on it and she saves Harley.
Mon: But, in essence, I think there's a lot of underlying fear inside Canary. Because if she gets involved, she’s working for Roman Sionis, how does that affect her? So there's a lot going on.
Ron: Especially since, soon after, she gets the driving gig, which she really doesn't want. Because as long as she's a singer, she's still slightly apart from the Black Mask gang. But the moment she becomes involved as something as important as a driver, who can sometimes be a getaway driver, then she's embroiled in this. She can't get out.
Mon: Yeah. And you can see how beholden Canary is to Sionis, even though she doesn't want to be. But there is this amazing scene after she's got the new driving gig and Sionis is showing her around his office. Now she's never obviously been there, because she was just a singer, so, she's never had to be in his office. He's showing her all stuff, all the conquests, all his travel mementos that he's got and she is so not interested. But she's putting on this act and it is amazing, amazing acting by both of the actors over there.
Tumblr media
Ron: I love how understated Jurnee Smollett is. She just embodies a real person in a really uncomfortable situation. And Ewan McGregor is having the time of his life in this scene! You know, I'm thinking about one of his best roles which kind of went under the radar for him for some reason.
That was in The impossible. He was really good in that. But that was a movie which was very dark, very suspenseful. It is based on a true story. Real people were very badly hurt. And his character has to embody that. This movie? It is completely the opposite. He is mean and horrid and flamboyant. He is enjoying every second of being on screen. And you can see that Ronan is so self-involved. He doesn't even realize that Black Canary isn't paying attention. It's not about her appreciating what he's got. It's about him showing off. I love it!
Mon; Honestly, the characters are what makes this entire movie come alive. You can see these little nuances that actors have put into creating these characters and making them these full-fledged people that we can understand. I mean, they're in Gotham, which doesn't exist. They're faced with these weird, crazy situations that probably aren’t realistic. But they themselves are very real.
Ron: It’s not what you expect in what is technically a superhero film. Even though this is basically a supervillain film. I know Joker tried to do that. But it was so in-your-face that it didn't feel real. Here, they go in the opposite direction. They are loud and colourful and they are out there. But you believe it.
Mon: That’s because these characters are relatable. The problem with a lot of superhero and genre films is that sometimes they are so interested in the spectacle, that they forget to make the characters relatable or real.
Ron: The spectacle in Birds of Prey is secondary to the characters. Now I do want to mention the fact that Black Canary is essentially race-swapped in this film. In the comic books and in most of the iterations of the character, she's always been a white woman. Here, she's played by Jurnee Smollett, who is a black woman.  And I love it because it doesn't matter. Why don't they keep doing this?
Tumblr media
Mon: I would have loved it even more if Huntress had been played by a Latina woman because in the comics, Bertinelli is a Latina woman in some iterations. So, people were a little bit upset about that. I understand. That being said, Many Elizabeth Winstead is so fun in this film. She has a really curtailed role but she is incredible. She's this ball of rage that doesn’t know how to fit into society because she hasn't been part of society for so long. She has a mission. She has to execute this mission and she goes about doing it the only way she knows how. But when she has to deal with people? She just doesn't know!
Mon: And then there's Renee Montoya, who is technically the everyman. In a movie about supervillains, Renee Montoya should be the obvious bad guy. But you can’t help but root for her. A – she is in a position that a lot of women find themselves. They do the work, they don’t get to take the credit.
She also has an ex who is doing quite well for herself. But she's kind of mean?
Mon: And they constantly have to work together and also Renee keeps using her ex's name to get stuff done, which her ex does not like.
Ron: Her ex, played by Ali Wong, the two of them have this really great antagonistic chemistry, so, I really love their scenes together. But she's the Assistant District Attorney, who is obviously somebody that a detective will turn to for the most part. They've got this really difficult relationship so, everything that would have worked before? Now, not so much.
Mon: What I liked about Renee’s characterization is that she’s so dogged. She doesn't become bitter because of all the promotions that she's lost or that her status at work isn't that great. Instead, she's rather dogged. You can see her obsessed with this one case, because she knows that this is the linchpin that can get her all the glory that she needs, and she deserves. But in the end, even that is snatched away. Because that's just how life is unfortunately, sometimes.
Tumblr media
It's really the believability of Renee Montoya and how are understated Rosie Perez’s performance is. She was my favorite character in the film. Despite not having those kinds of action scenes. You can really see yourself in her. She's just a good person trying to be a good guy in this really rotten world. And she's not getting anywhere. Until she finds a team who understand her.
Ron: Also, let's not forget the fact that we get these little snippets of how good she is at her job. The scene which we mentioned earlier, where she's looking at Huntress’ work, she can immediately imagine where the killer was standing. Who the actual target was. Who the collateral damage was.
Mon: What their motivations were.
Ron: And she's conveying that as she's looking at it. Her partner doesn’t care. He’s decided that oh, this must be a mob hit. No, it's not a mob hit. There is a very particular reason why this person was killed. Also, that scene is interrupted by Harley blowing up the ACE chemicals factory, because she wants to get back at the Joker. And the moment Renee gets there, and she sees what's happening, she's like, Harley is in trouble now, she's put a target on her back. Because she knows how Gotham works. Do her partners know that? Does her boss know that? We know that Renee's really good at her work. We know that she's got the experience, but nobody else in the film realizes that until she meets the Birds of Prey.
Ron: So, the characters are fun because there’s a ton of humour in this film. And it's not forced humour. I feel like that was one of the problems with Suicide Squad. There were these moments of humour, which I just felt like somebody had shoehorned into the film. It wasn't natural here. Here, it comes off naturally. One of the people in the film that I didn't expect to be as humorous as she was, was Black Canary. The moment that it was announced the Black Canary was going to be in this film, I went back and read Gail Simone's run on Birds of Prey. This film was partially based on that. But it's quite dark. It doesn’t really have the kind of humour that you get in this film. Which I feel like harks back to the Birds of Prey: Rebirth comics, which is much lighter, more humorous and Black Canary in that is just the best. She is so adorable. I just loved her in that and that made me want to see Black Canary in Birds of Prey so much more. The balance that we get in this film is really quite enjoyable. She's harsh, she’s humorous, she's witty, but she's also sarcastic. And she understands what her role is in the world around her. So, I quite enjoyed that.
Mon: She's not unsympathetic. That's what I liked about this character. And in a way that how you feel about most of the characters. They don't come across as unsympathetic. You really want to root for them. And even Harley. We've already mentioned that we weren't all that enthused with this character, or how much she’s pervaded all of pop culture. But this film really made you want to love this character. And protect her. Because she gets into scrape after scrape, because she really doesn't know what she's going to do with herself. She's a little bit guileless. And the biggest problem is, in Gotham, people see her as an easy target. They’re wrong. They find out soon enough.
It's hilarious, the way when it becomes obvious that Harley is no longer attached to the Joker. How these people come out of the woodwork because of all the things that she's done to them. We even have Renee going after Harley because if she doesn't get Black Mask, getting Harley is another coup for her. But she doesn't succeed either.
Tumblr media
Ron: I love those screen cards, which explain to us exactly what Harley did to these people, and some of them are so hilarious. Like, really dude, move on, it's fine! And then when she sees Huntress? She's like, ‘huh, what's this?’ And there's just like question marks? It’s so funny. It’s these simple, silly little gags that make this film so much fun to watch. Like, we watched it with a huge smile on our face the entire runtime.
Ron: And you know what, because the characters are so enjoyable, that's what powers the plot. You care so much about them because everything that happens, matters. The story is just so well structured You have the protagonist finding her team. They all start off in a bad place. By the middle they’ve found their footing. But then the villain gets the upper hand. And the final act is about this team working together to win. It's a very classic storyline. But the reason why it's elevated is because the characters are well written and the direction for this film was excellent.
Mon: A lot of people might find it jarring that Harley is basically narrating this film. But what makes it work is that Harley is an unreliable narrator. And we find that out from the very beginning. She's talking about how she dumped the Joker or that they have an amicable relationship despite the break-up. All of that is untrue and so you have to ask yourself are we seeing the truth when we are seeing it from Harley's eyes?
When Harley really gets involved in the actual plot of the film. We see her going to the police station, searching for Cassandra Cain, because Cassandra has the MacGuffin of the film. We see Harley shooting with glitter and paint. Now when I first watched it, I was sure that, oh this means that Harley has turned over a new leaf. She's not going around killing people. She's actually knocking them down with glitter guns. But are they glitter guns?
Ron: When I watched the film, I was like, hundred percent, this is Harley's imagination. That's how she sees the world now. Maybe the ACE chemicals, they got to her brain somewhat. I wouldn't be surprised if that was the reason why she sees things differently. But there was no way, in hell, that those were glitter guns.
Mon: So, there's a lot of dead bodies that we didn’t see. And that is such a cool thing to do with the direction! It makes it friendly. It makes it watchable without making it gory. But at the same time, it makes you question what's happening on screen and it makes you question Harley's mentality.
Margot Robbie has a lot of action scenes in this film and she's brilliant. She and her stunt double—I know she does a lot of stunts herself, but you can tell in a few scenes, that definitely a stunt double was used. They are so good, so impactful. But even those action scenes, they're not just about fighting. They're about relying on who this character and advancing her journey, as well.
One thing I had read about the action scenes for the film was that the choreographer specifically tailored the stunts for the characters in them. So, it's not like these small, tiny, slim women going around judo-kicking everybody. It's about them using their powers as well as using their surroundings to get the bad guy.
Ron: That becomes most obvious in the evidence locker that Harley finds herself in when she's trying to protect Cassandra Cain. She's using the cages. She's using whatever weapons that she can find. She uses a cell phone at one point. And one of the scenes that I absolutely loved was when she's hiding behind this massive crate of cocaine, which gets shot up. So, there's cocaine everywhere. She inhales some. And at this point she's a bit tired, she's been fighting for a while. She gets this jolt because of all the cocaine, and it helps her fight even harder. And I was like, you know what, it really works!
Mon: Yeah, I completely agree with you. It's these moments in the writing and the direction that really keep you immersed in the film. It never takes you out of it because it feels like yeah, that makes sense.
Ron: Every single thing that happens in this film, whether it's in the background, the foreground, around the characters, around the bad guys, everything has some kind of relation to the plot. I love that about it that's really tight writing.
Ron: So, we've talked a lot about the good guys, or rather the good bad guys, because there are bad bad guys. But the villains here, they really are engaging in themselves. What did you love about them?
Mon: First of all, Ewan McGregor as Black Mask, I never saw that coming.
Ron: I've read Black Mask in the comics. He tends to appear in a lot of the Jason Todd/ Red Hood storylines. He's so boring. I don't care about this guy.
Mon: He's a generic crime lord. He's nothing exciting or different. But here in Birds of Prey, Roman is more than that. And what works with Roman, he isn't just an evil bad guy. He's an insecure, petulant, man-child.
Ron: Absolutely. And what better villain in a superhero film for 2020? Because for the last four years, we have seen an insecure, petulant, rich, man-child, run a country, and the world, to the ground.
Mon: Ewan McGregor is such an unlikely casting for this character. First of all, we think of him as Obi Wan Kenobi. He's this really, nice Scottish gentlemen, we really like this guy. How can he be playing Black Mask? It's obvious that he is loving every moment of playing Black Mask. And more than Black Mask, he is loving every moment of playing Roman.
Roman is so flamboyant, so larger than life, that you can make out that everything that he's doing is to stave off that insecurity that he has. He didn't live up to his father's expectations. So, everything he does is to get back in his good books. Roman’s plan to do that is by being evil, by making connections with other mob bosses. And when they don't go his way, he sets Victor Zsasz on those people and their families.
Ron: Speaking of Zsasz, it took me a little while to realise Chris Messina was playing Victor Zsasz because he looked quite different from what we've seen especially in the video games that we've played for Batman. I really like Zsasz. He is so creepy. The version that we get in this film is quite different. But I feel like he's kind of a good mix between the video game and comic version of Zsasz and the version that we get in Gotham, who was a little quirky, a little bit funny, really enjoyable to watch. Chris Messina is a bit darker and kind of smarmy. But also injects a little bit of unintentional humor into Zsasz.
Tumblr media
Mon: There was a lot of talk about Roman Sionis and Zsasz, and what their relationship would be. People wondered if there was something a little bit more than just a professional partnership. I feel like the creators were smart enough to not go deep into how their relationship works. But you can really tell that there's a kind of closeness between the two. For example, it's obvious that Sionis sees Zsasz as his right-hand man. But Zsasz isn't too sure about his place next to Sionis.
Well, he's Roman Sionis. He's like a fairweather friend. So, with Zsasz, he's always trying to grab intention. Anytime he sees that Roman is interacting with somebody else, or somebody else seems to be getting higher in Roman’s affections, Zsasz tries to bring the attention back to himself.
So, we talked earlier about when Canary is in Roman’s headquarters and in his office and she's being shown around all the stuff that he's got. So Zsasz is in the background. And he's very uncomfortable with how much attention is being given to Canary. So, you can just see in his mind he's thinking oh no, becoming his top favorite, I have to bring it back to me. And then immediately he drops a bomb on Roman. Attention is back on him.
And, even later, when they capture Harley, he's like all in your face about it. He's just putting up a performance for Roman. So, you can tell that this isn't an equal partnership. Zsasz is trying very hard to remain indispensable. So, he trying every possible way to be relevant.
Ron: Yeah, kind of like the fact that eventually we see that it's not a romantic relationship between Zsasz and Roman. There's a power dynamic that would make it a bit uncomfortable. Queer-coded characters tend to become villains so often, we really didn't need to go in that direction for this film. It's up to everybody's imagination and that is the best way to go about it. Because it would be alright if we already had a huge bunch of queer characters who were on the good side. But we don’t have that and it's going to take ages for genre films to catch up that regard. So not making this obvious, worked.
But you can see that whatever Zsasz does feel, whether it's romantic, whether it's some kind affiliation, he really needs to be all up in Roman’s business. And the way he keeps that physical closeness constantly, and the moment Roman steps away from him, it makes him so uncomfortable. Those are the little things that I really liked.
Now, this is something that we were talking about. I have been noticing that in film and television recently, sometimes you can see that characters who aren't involved directly within the dialogue or the action in a particular scene, they blank and they’re just waiting for their turn to speak. You don't get that in this film. Whoever is around the main cast, they still have something to do. So, in that scene where Roman is showing Canary around his office, yes, they're both engaged but even those Zsasz doesn't really have anything to say or do, his expressions tell you so much about the character. And that's throughout this film, which is really good.
Mon: So, let's talk about that scene. Man, that was an uncomfortable scene in Roman’s club. Hoo boy!
Ron: Okay, so let's describe it. Now, what we’ve seen is a bunch of people just enjoying themselves, and Roman seems to enjoy fostering that kind environment, he wants people to enjoy themselves.
But we find out just how difficult Roman can make things when he's not happy. He gets some bad news and instead of acting like a normal person and letting the party continue while he seethes inside and tries to plan his next steps, he decides to take it out on a patron.
We meet Erika, just for this one scene. She's played by Bojana Novakovic—apologies if we didn't pronounce her name properly. She's just a party-goer; she's enjoying herself, she's with her friends. They're laughing. Roman takes that as an affront. He thinks they're laughing at him.
Mon: And let’s just point out here that Erika and her friends are on the other side of the room. They couldn't possibly have heard what happened to Roman, or why he's upset. They wouldn't have been laughing at him in any respect. But this is his insecurity coming to the fore.
Ron: He tries to embarrass her and initially she takes it as a joke. So, she doesn't really act on it but then he’s so aggressive about it that she has no choice. The whole scene becomes so uncomfortable for everybody—for Erika, for her friends, for Black Canary who's literally standing quietly crying in a corner. And for every single viewer in the hall, you're holding a breath and just feeling sick inside.
Mon: When we very first watched this scene, I felt Ewan McGregor wasn't quite connected with what his character was doing. By the time we watched it a second time, maybe because I knew it was coming, I was more appreciative of how hard he was trying. He was definitely uncomfortable as well. Just as uncomfortable as the rest of us, but the entire scene is made for that. It's supposed to make you recoil in horror.
Apparently, director Cathy Yan had to fight to keep this scene in because the studio couldn’t why it needed to be there. One could argue that we didn't need to know how evil Roman can be. But, you know that if it was any other kind of director they would have made it very sleazy, very salacious. But with Cathy Yan, you can tell that this scene is supposed to highlight the discomfort of the characters and not make it gratuitous.
Ron: I'm not surprised that the studio fought back against it, because I don't think they would have understood what it means for the people who are watching it. When we were in the hall and this scene happened, there was a pin drop silence.
Till then, we were all enjoying ourselves, we were laughing. The discomfort of every single viewer was palpable. And none of us could breathe till this scene was finished.
Mon: One thing I noticed was that when this scene begins, Ewan McGregor is very obviously made-up a little bit. You can see he's got a little bit of eyeliner going on. He looks absolutely gorgeous and then he does this, and you just forget about how good he looks.
You know that there is a constant argument that people are more likely to acquiesce to somebody who's good looking. But in truth, if somebody is evil, they're evil. So, with this scene, I think the creators really highlight that.
And then you can tell that Roman knows that he’s probably lost a bit of respect in the eyes of everyone in the club. And so, he's trying to grab on to the last vestige of respectability. So, he immediately grabs Canary, and goes, ‘no, no, don't go’. And she's literally trying to run away from him because he's a horrible person.
Ron: But let’s talk about how this scene was shot. You mentioned how, if this was any other director, it would have been quite different. I love that this scene does not involve the male gaze at all. You know that there's a person standing without much on, but we don't get to see that.
And that’s where the female gaze comes in. We are put solely in the shoes of Erika, of Canary not in Roman’s shoes, or Zsasz’s.
Ron: And that is where the difference between a female director and female writers comes in. I'm glad Cathy Yan fought that battle and won, because we rewind to the beginning of the scene when Erika and her friends are laughing and Roman takes that as an affront. That’s something that happens a lot. I mean, there's the whole joke about how men can't stand being laughed at, whereas women are terrified of being killed. That's pretty much exactly what this scene is envisioning. Yes, in a slightly more heightened fashion in the world of Gotham which isn't real. But this is something that could happen as clubs tend to be uncomfortable places at times for somebody who's not a guy. I'm glad Cathy Yan won this.
Mon: And this scene also pushes Canary away from Roman. Up until this point, she's been secretly working with Renee Montoya, but now, now she really wants to take down Roman.
Ron: And she's desperate. You see her in the bathroom, hanging on her phone and she's desperately yelling into it, telling Renee that they have to find Cassandra Cain and get that diamond back and take down Roman. And that's the kind of frenetic movement that we haven't seen from Canary up until now. Because all this while, the threat was away from her. She was just the driver. Now, she's involved.
Mon: And this scene cements Roman’s arc into being an actual evil person. Up until this point, he's been a bit comical. But from this scene onwards, he becomes the real villain of the piece.
Ron: Going back to the face slicing off scene, he was still kind of funny in it. He wasn't also involved directly in it. He was telling Zsasz to do everything. And he was enjoying himself. And you were like ‘okay, this is a bad guy. He’s cutting people's faces off, that's fine’. But here, it's completely different. And I really appreciate how the creative team made this happen.
Mon: And that segues into the final arc of the film, which is when Harley and the Birds of Prey get together. So, it’s just them, these five women—well, four women and one child—against Black Mask and his hordes of henchmen. And interestingly, I noticed that they specifically cast only male extras as Black Mask’s henchmen.
So, the final action sequence takes place in Amusement Mile, where Harley needs to get the Birds of Prey on her side so that they can together fight Roman. And, it’s another fun scene. It brings to characters to the fore; it shows how out of touch Harley can be with just how unimportant she was in Joker's life as well as in the world of supervillainy. Poor thing. You just feel sorry for her.
Ron: Somebody give Harley a hug!
Mon: But the way the characters come together…that final action sequence is exquisite.
Ron: It is so much fun to watch. And you know what? It's so colorful. Where is the color on genre films? I love that about this. They're in a theme park. There’s gonna be all sorts of colourful rides around. And again, they use their surroundings as an advantage against the bad guys. It's so enjoyable.
And, of course, let us not forget the epic hair-tying scene.
One of the most annoying things about genre films is these beautifully made-up women with their open hair gloriously flying around them. And somehow it never gets in their eyes when they're fighting people.
Mon: Anybody with long hair can tell you that it's a pain in the neck.
Ron: It doesn't matter how long it is, it will get in your way. It will always get in your way!
Tumblr media
Mon: So, there is this moment where Jurnee Smollett’s Black Canary, she’s fighting and her hair’s getting in her face. Because she's literally just run off to fight this battle. She hasn't really had time to think about it.
And Harley, as we know, she's always had these cute little ponytails. So, she obviously keeps hair-ties with her. As somebody who uses hair-ties, you know that sometimes they snap, so you got to keep extra. So, Harley's got extra hair-ties, and she goes up to Canary and says ‘hair-tie?’, and Canary takes it and she can fight better.
Ron: These are the moments that you get in a film when you have diversity behind the screen and on the screen, and that's why this film works.
That final battle, why is it so enjoyable? Because it’s four women and one child, who we can relate to, being written by women and directed by women. So, it looks, it moves different; and it just feels like something that we haven't seen before.
Mon: And with Cassandra, she's a young teenaged girl. She's not going to go out there and start beating people up. So, the entire premise of that final action sequence is really to protect Cassandra, not only from being captured but also from being hurt. They're all trying their best to keep her out of site.
Ron: And everybody gets in on the action. Renee, who is drunk, and doesn’t really have any weapons also gets in on the action, because she's a detective. She knows how to fight.
Huntress, who has her crossbow, does a great job keeping everybody at bay.
Black Canary, who doesn't really have any weapons, she more than holds her own in this fight. And Harley, just loves smashing things.
Mon: If anybody has read the comics, or is vaguely familiar with the Black Canary, you'll know that she actually is a meta-human. She has a superpower.
Throughout the film, Black Canary does not use that superpower. But why? We find out during this final action sequence.
Renee is the only one who knows about Black Canary’s past. She knows about her mother. That's another sweet little moment, because we find out that Dinah Lance’s mom was also a superhero and she was obviously killed before her time. And that’s why Dinah is obviously afraid of using her powers/
When she finally unleashes the Canary Cry, it takes so much out of her, she actually collapses.
Ron: But the scene is epic. You've kind of been waiting for it throughout the firm, but I felt like I didn't miss the fact that we hadn't seen the Canary Cry before them. But when she does, it's amazing.
But let also talk about Renee's bulletproof vest.
Mon: I love that so much. Harley uncovers a chest which includes a lot of her old stuff. So, she finds her giant hammer, she finds her old outfit. She suggests that one of the others, Renee especially, tries to put it on because it's bulletproof. And, of course, Renee scoffs at it because, have you seen Harley’s outfits?
But it turns out that Renee did take Harley’s advice and she'd actually got the bulletproof outfit underneath her clothes. So that when she does get shot, she's actually still alive. Phew! I was really scared for a moment.
Ron: The final act was kind of setup to make you think that we were going to lose a character, but fortunately we don't. Instead, we got this extremely fun moment when Harley rips open Renee’s jacket to check that she's going to be okay and she's so impressed because Renee is wearing her suit, and she's so impressed; and Renee looks great in it.
Mon: Once again, you have to commend the creators. It’s not like Renee rips off her rather practical detective outfit and starts walking around in Harley’s skimpier clothes. No, she has it hidden underneath, because you don’t want to advertise that you're wearing a bulletproof vest. Otherwise, you will get shot.
Ron: That's a good point.
But we’ve forgotten to mention the central romance in this film.
Mon: Oh yes, of course. It's the most important relationship in all of DCEU.
Ron: Absolutely. Now, Harley and Joker have been a part of the DC world for a very long time. You could say that their pairing is iconic. This film makes you forget the Joker was even a thing, because Harley has a new and proved love interest: the simple egg sandwich.
Tumblr media
There is no better scene in cinema than Harley running through the streets of Gotham hanging on to her freshly-made egg sandwich. And then just as she is close to being freedom, Renee’s car stops her, Harley falls to the ground and her sandwich flies out of her hand.
The sheer magnitude of her loss is felt from within and without the screen.
Mon: It really is these sweet moments in the film that make you love not only the film but the characters.
The entire scene is shot to show us that Harley was having a really good day. It's not really about the egg sandwich. It’s just about her being herself. And once again, every moment in the film is about advancing—each character’s arc and their journey. This egg sandwich was a very huge part of Harley's journey. And now it's gone.
Ron: But it's these simple little things that you don't expect to see in genre films. But also, they don't get to be associated with female characters.
Mon: You're right. Tony Stark and his burger have gone down in the annals of comic book history. Now, it's been dethroned.
Ron: And I love the fact that we weren't the only ones who loved that relationship. Twitter, the day after Birds of Prey came out, was awash with tweets about Harley and her sandwich and I was like, ‘You know what? This is a small moment.’ I don't know whether the writers and the director even realized how much it would matter to people but it was so good to see a character like Harley, who has been sexualized and demonized and discarded, just become a person that you absolutely and utterly loved.
So, the plot, the characters, the cinematography is beautiful. But let's not forget that this film has an amazing soundtrack. We could not stop listening to it when we first watched the film. We listened to it on loop for weeks. And then again when we re-watched it for our birthday—we were listening to it again.
For me, Diamonds is one of my favorite songs this year. I can't not dance when I hear it. It’s sampling Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend, but with this super cool hip hop beat. And it just makes me move.
Tumblr media
But I also love Boss Bitch, which is noisy and fun. And really gets your heart pumping.
We also have Jurnee Smollett’s It's a Man's World. It's so soulful and beautiful. It's very different from Boss Bitch and Diamonds, but it just penetrates your soul.
Which songs do you love?
Mon:  I love Joke's on You. It pretty much kicks off the film and echoes Harley's journey. Plus, it's really beautiful to listen to.
But the arrangement for Hit Me with Your Best Shot in this film, it is so surreal and eerie. The song itself is a huge contrast to the scene that it plays along with. But I think it fits with this scary, haunting world of Gotham, especially in that final arc when everything is all foggy and mysterious.
Ron: And what I love about this film is that the soundtrack ties so beautifully into the score by Daniel Pemberton. That's something that I'm always looking for in films. You hear these songs, and you hear the background score, but somehow, they don't work together. This film, for the first time—at least for me—that works brilliantly. When I heard the score, you can hear parts of the songs as well. And that segue between the two of them is absolutely magical.
Mon: Was it just me, or was the entire soundtrack only sung by women?
Ron:  That's absolutely right, it was. It's another great way to showcase diversity behind the scenes when your film is about diversity as well.
And that comes through, also, in the costumes. I read about Cathy Yan speaking with the costume designer, and the actors. So, Margot Robbie, because she was also involved as a producer, had some input into how the characters would look.
We have spoken about Suicide Squad and Harley’s costumes, which were extremely impractical, highly sexualized and kind of disturbing to watch. The clothes in Birds of Prey; are they revealing? Yes. Harley walks around in shorts for a lot of the time. Black Canary has a golden sports bra on view most of the time. But they aren't sexualized, and again it comes back to the gaze of the person behind the camera. Plus, the clothes are fashionable versions of what we see in everyday life.
Mon: The practical look of the costumes, apparently, was the start of a lot of backlash towards the release of this film. I would say a lot of it was unnecessary. There's no point in having Harley walk around in tiny hot pants, because it isn't practical. And also, I feel like a lot of people used the costumes and the general casting of these actors as an excuse to not watch this film.
There is a very vocal set of fandoms, usually the most conservative, who've decided that some films aren't for them. We'll never know why they feel like this.
Films like Birds of Prey cater to a larger audience—not to a different audience—a larger audience. Because superhero and genre fare has, for a very long time, targeted a very narrow demographic. It's the 21st century, there's a whole world out there, and they’re bringing in the money. Who do you think helped Birds of Prey, make buck? It was the larger; marginalized female audience who were flocking to see this film.
And they were watching this film because the characters were given agency, were given storylines, were given fleshed out characterizations.
Ron:  Some of the criticisms towards the film was that it became a Harley vehicle, instead of being about the Birds of Prey. But if you look at the DCEU universe, and the fans that are watching it, you can't just say this is a movie about the Birds of Prey, you need to have some connection with the rest of the canon, because otherwise people won't know what's happening.
Mon: And they don't even try to find out either. It's like ‘oh, who are these people? I want to see Harley’. Okay, this is a good way to get them in.
Ron: Exactly. So that's a criticism that I don't understand at all.
Another thing that people were saying was that the Birds of Prey has always had Batgirl in it. Not having Batgirl in this film, yes, her absence is felt, because she is a huge part of this group in the comics.
But we don't know the inner workings of Warner Bros. and the DCEU. We don't know why Batgirl couldn't be in this film; we don't know whether we will see Batgirl on screen anytime soon. Apparently, there was a movie being written by Joss Whedon, but fortunately that is gone. That man should not come near superhero films at all.
But what happens to Batgirl? We don't know. There is going to be The Batman movie. We have seen Jeffrey Wright’s Jim Gordon in the film trailers, but we haven't seen whether he has grown-up daughter who can become Batgirl. So, we don't know which direction this particular franchise is going to go.
So, yet another criticism was about Cassandra Cain and how she came across as a bit of a generic teen character, instead of as the Cassandra Cain/ Orphan that we meet in DC Comics. That is a valid criticism. But on the other hand, Orphan is a very different kind of character, and perhaps trying to explain her backstory without giving viewers some time to connect with the character before she becomes the superhero that we know in the comics, would not have worked.
Maybe we’re giving the movie a lot of leeway because it was an enjoyable experience and we do like the diversity that was showcased in this film. But in all honesty, the kind of things that were being said about Birds of Prey would not have been said about films that feature male leads.
Mon: The only valid criticism I'm willing to take against this film is that we don't necessarily need assault storylines in a film empowering women. I know that a lot of people were disturbed by that.Perhaps if it had come with trigger warnings. People would have known what to expect.
But aside from that, the way that these scenes play out are very subtle, very nuanced; again, not gratuitous. The film based itself in reality, despite being fantastical.
Will we get a second part?
Tumblr media
Ron: I am desperate for Birds of Prey 2. I want to see more of Black Canary, of Renee, of Huntress, and maybe even our first glimpse of Batgirl in the DCEU.
I think the wider reception of this film, amongst the audience that doesn't usually get catered to, is really positive. It does deserve a second part, especially when films like Suicide Squad are also getting sequels, and that film was critically panned and widely disliked by the fan base that it was catering to.
Mon: I completely agree with you. There's so much scope to expand the universe of this film. We could possibly see Poison Ivy, we could possibly see Oracle, who knows, it would be so much fun. Just getting to see those Birds of Prey fight and work together as a team, with no strings attached, would be worth every penny.
Ron: Absolutely. Bring on Birds of Prey 2, DC.

The Risk - Part 3
Genre: Fighter!AU
Pairing: Park Seo Joon x You (Female!Reader)
Warnings: None
Part 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 | Words: 2,382
Tumblr media
Seo Joon sighed softly before he let his arms fall to his side, and he took a step back from the punching bag.
“What’s up?” his coach, Victor, asked. “Your head’s not in it today.”
“I just...” Seo Joon let out another sigh, and he honestly felt a little ridiculous. The reason he was having trouble focusing was... he couldn’t stop thinking about you.
He had been on one date with you -- one date! But it had been a really good date. He hadn’t kissed you when he’d dropped you off at your apartment, but it had still been a really good date. And now he couldn’t stop thinking about you.
“What was it like?” he asked, his brow furrowed as he shifted his gaze to his coach. “When you first met your husband?”
Predictably, Victor reacted with a bit of surprise. “When I -- what do you mean?”
“How did you feel? Did you know that he was...”
“...The One?” Victor replied. “Well, no... I didn’t realize that I knew at the time, but after a while... when I looked back on it, I actually did know. Deep down, from the very beginning, I just knew. It took me a while to really understand it, though.”
Seo Joon bit the inside of his cheek, very obviously thinking about something. “What was it like? Dating him?”
Victor let out a sputtering sigh and shrugged. “I don’t know. It was... Really, the only way to describe it is easy. It was easy. I didn’t feel like I had to try hard to make things work because they just... did. Why? What’s with the sudden interrogation about relationships?”
Seo Joon’s expression changed dramatically as he laughed softly, shaking his head a little. “Do you... remember our server? At the restaurant after the match last weekend?”
“Yes... I remember,” Victor replied with just a hint of a smirk on his lips.
“I went out with her the other night.”
“And now you can’t stop thinking about her?”
“It’s constant,” Seo Joon replied with a sigh, almost sounding frustrated. But, in a weird way, it was frustrating. He’d had girlfriends before, but he couldn’t remember ever feeling quite like this. It was strange, and he didn’t know what to do about it. “And the thing is, I actually said to her on our date that talking to her was easy.”
Victor raised his eyebrows, and after a few moments, he shrugged again. “Listen, Seo Joon, I’m not going to tell you that she’s The One just because she’s easy to talk to. Every relationship is different -- not that it’s a relationship, but you know what I mean. I’m here for you if you ever need to talk about it, but... the only thing I can tell you right now is don’t let her distract you. You’ve got a match coming up in a month, and if you don’t stay focused on your training, you’ll lose your undefeated record for the season.”
Seo Joon exhaled deeply through his mouth before looking at his coach and nodding once. “Got it,” he murmured.
Actually, that was good advice. He did need to stay focused, and he figured a month was a pretty good timeframe. He would take it easy, keep it casual with you over the next month. He wouldn’t rush into anything serious or make any crazy declarations of love, and after his next match in one month, he would see where things were. If he was still seeing you and still couldn’t stop thinking about you, he would take it to the next level.
But he could think more about that later. Right now, he needed to train.
Tumblr media
Truly, there was nothing a good, hard workout session couldn’t fix.
After a few hours of punching, kicking, sparring, jogging, and lifting weights, Seo Joon found his mind was much clearer.
It was still filled with thoughts of you, of course, but he wasn’t nearly as... confused, I guess. He knew what he wanted to do, and he had a renewed vigor to just go ahead and do it.
As soon as he stepped out of the gym, freshly showered and changed, he slid his phone out of his pocket and pulled up his text conversation with you. He was going to take things slowly, yes, but not too slowly.
Tumblr media
Seo Joon smiled to himself, putting his phone away and getting his keys out as he began to head over to the gym’s parking lot.
About 15 minutes later, you sent him your location and 20 minutes after that, he got back in his car and headed over to your university.
Once he found a place to park, he got out his phone and pulled up the map you’d messaged him. He navigated over to a building, walking through quads and weaving through small crowds of students and professors.
Just as he stopped in front of a somewhat small, three-story brick building and lifted his gaze up from his screen, the front doors opened and a wave of people began filing out.
Seo Joon’s eyes narrowed slightly as he searched the many faces walking toward him, and when they finally landed on a familiar one -- and a very pretty one, at that -- his heart did a little leap inside his chest.
You were talking to another girl, smiling and rolling your eyes playfully, but then your gaze caught his briefly. Seo Joon watched as you turned back to your friend and said goodbye before breaking off from the crowd and walking over to him.
“Hey,” you greeted with a shy smile. “I’m glad you found it okay.”
“I had no idea you could send your location like that,” Seo Joon replied instead of greeting you in return.
“Well, you learn something new every day,” you chuckled.
Seo Joon grinned at you, and he could’ve sworn he saw you take a breath, like your heart had just leaped inside your chest just as his had not two minutes ago.
“So, where are we going?” he asked as he slid his phone into the back pocket of his jeans.
“Ah, yes,” you said with an excited raise of your eyebrows. “Follow me. It’s not too far.”
You turned on your heel, and Seo Joon immediately followed you. He also immediately reached out and tugged at the strap of your backpack.
“I can carry this for you,” he said, attempting to slide it off your shoulder.
“Oh, no, that’s --”
But he really wasn’t going to give you much choice. He was the type of guy who carried any bag that any female he was walking with had, no matter what. He was going to make her walk on the inside of the sidewalk, he was going to hold open doors for her, and he was going to carry her bags. He didn’t care who she was, how old she was, and that was that!
“Thank you,” you said softly as he slid the backpack onto his own shoulders.
“You’re very welcome,” he murmured in reply. “How’s your day been so far? What class did you have just now?”
“It’s been fine,” you said with a gentle sigh. “It was a technical seminar on fiction writing. We have to read and analyze different literature and talk about different writing techniques and stuff. It’s actually pretty interesting.”
“What kind of stories do you like to write?” Seo Joon asked curiously.
“Mainly your typical, romantic, happy-ending stories,” you explained with a little laugh. “I’ve tried to do more dark, angsty stuff, but... it’s just not me.”
Seo Joon simply smiled, following you as you turned down a walkway. He liked that, actually. He liked that you liked writing happy stories, and he liked that you knew who you were and didn’t try to be anything different.
The two of you walked on for a few more minutes, engaging in some small talk until you began to slow your steps.
“Here we are,” you announced, gesturing toward what looked like... a garden. A very large garden. “My school has a really amazing horticulture and landscape design program, so our botanical gardens are pretty awesome. I come here if I need to chill or if I just want to take my mind off things. It’s one of my happy places.”
To be honest, Seo Joon was a little surprised you would take him to one of your happy places. Delighted, but surprised. Maybe that meant you were on the same wavelength as he was... maybe you were also constantly thinking about him.
“I had no idea this was here,” he said as he followed you through the entrance and down a cobblestone path lined with blooming shrubs. “I mean, I’ve never been to this school, but still. This place is huge.”
“And it’s open to the public,” you replied. “Free admission, too. It’s all school-funded, and the students do all of their projects here and stuff.”
“I can see why you like it.” Even just stepping over from the concrete sidewalk to the brick path of the garden felt like stepping into another world. It was now suddenly quiet and peaceful, and he could totally understand why you would come here to de-stress.
You led him over toward a stone bench in front of a trickling fountain, and he slid your backpack off his shoulders before perching next to you.
“I’m actually not a big nature person,” you said, stretching your legs out in front of you and crossing one ankle over the other. “But I like this kind of nature. Pretty nature with no bears or snakes.”
Seo Joon chuckled softly, and he had never been more tempted to reach over and take someone’s hand. Yours were clasped together in your lap right now, and it was all he could do not to just slide his hand over and link his own fingers through yours.
He let out a soft sigh because he was supposed to be casual about this. He wasn’t supposed to want to hold your hand already because he had a month until his match, and he needed to focus, and --
“Are you okay?” Your voice cut into his thoughts, and his eyebrows shot up his forehead as he looked over at you.
“Hm? Oh -- yeah, I’m just --”
Well... it might not be the best decision, but Seo Joon figured he should be honest.
“I just... haven’t been able to stop thinking about you since our date.”
He could see the hint of surprise in your face, but instead of saying something like ‘oh’ or getting flustered and embarrassed, you said, “Me too, actually.”
Seo Joon’s heart sped up quite a bit, and he turned to face you better, angling his legs toward yours so his knees touched your thigh.
“I don’t want to rush into anything,” he explained. “I have a match next month, and I need to stay focused and train.”
You simply nodded, your eyes wide as you listened intently. And adorably.
Goodness, he was just realizing how actually adorable you were.
“But... I like you.”
That was really all there was to it. He didn’t even really know you all that well, but... he liked you.
“I like that you know who you are, and you’re not afraid to be yourself,” he continued. “This sounds totally lame and cliche, but you’re honestly one of the most genuine people I’ve ever met.”
He saw your cheeks tinge with pink, and your lips curved into a bashful smile as you replied. “Well, there’s no use being someone I’m not. I would have to keep on pretending around you, and that would just be so exhausting. I can’t keep that up.”
Seo Joon laughed softly, and... he gave in to his urge to hold your hand. He reached over and wiggled his fingers in-between your clasped palms, linking them through yours.
As he gazed over at you, you gazed down at your hands, keeping your eyes fixed on them as you opened your mouth to speak again.
“I mean, there are always going to be people who like you and people who don’t, no matter who you are or what you’re like or how you act. What’s the point in being someone else? You might as well just be your true self and find people who like you and accept you for exactly who you are, not people who like you for who you’re pretending to be.”
Seo Joon studied you for a few moments, long enough for you to shift your gaze up to look back at him.
“You said you like writing romance stories?” he asked.
“...Yeah,” you replied with a curious grin.
“Do you have plans to do any self-help books? Because it sounds like you have a lot to say on that subject,” he told you with a tiny, admiring smirk.
“No,” you laughed, shaking your head. “No self-help books. Just fiction.”
Seo Joon squeezed your hand slightly, and after you squeezed it back, he said, “Well, I like who you are. A lot.”
You leaned over and bumped his arm gently with your shoulder. “I like you, too.”
All of a sudden, the image of kissing you popped into Seo Joon’s head. He so vividly pictured himself leaning over and capturing your lips in a soft kiss, cradling your lips as delicately as if you were made of glass.
Apparently, he was not alone in these thoughts, because before he could even say anything -- ask for your permission, perhaps -- you had leaned over and done just that.
You’d kissed him.
But, almost as quickly as it had happened, it was over. You had pulled away, and Seo Joon was blinking his eyes open.
“Sorry,” you breathed, and you were still close enough that Seo Joon could feel your breath glide over his mouth.
Of course, his first instinct was to tell you there was absolutely no reason to apologize. You had nothing to be sorry about and, in fact, he had been thinking about kissing you, too.
But... he figured he didn’t need to say any of that.
He didn’t need to say anything.
He simply closed the gap in-between you and kissed you back.

what Classic Film(TM) you should watch based on who your fave Danganronpa 1/2 character is
disclaimer - obviously as a film dude i’m gonna say you should watch all of these. but maybe watch the one correlating to your fave first!
Makoto: 12 Angry Men (1957, dir. Sidney Lumet) - strong themes of justice, it’s about a jury trying to determine a man’s guilt. it’s basically what Makoto does for the entire game. you’ll also like it if you’re a fan of Phoenix Wright.
Sayaka: A Star is Born (1954, dir. George Cukor) - it’s all about a girl’s rise to fame and how her relationships change with that. there’s three versions of this film, most recently with Lady Gaga.
Mukuro: Vertigo (1958, dir. Alfred Hitchcock) - themes of murder and hiding your identity, losing yourself to a cause.
Leon: Animal House (1978, dir. John Landis) - a comedy about a fraternity. it’s THE college frat movie and i think Leon would enjoy it a lot.
Chihiro: WarGames (1983, dir. John Badham) - two teenagers might have accidentally started a world war during the cold war by trying to play computer games...fitting for the series, no?
Mondo: On the Waterfront (1954, dir. Elia Kazan) - struggling to do the right thing and being sort of frustrated about your circumstances as they pertain to class and missed opportunities. being dragged into bad situations by family. also Marlon Brando is a bicon and very hot in this movie.
Taka: Rebel Without a Cause (1955, dir. Nicholas Ray) - a lot of turbulent shit happens to three teenagers over the course of 24 hours. one of - if not the first canonically gay teenager on film. i think we all know by now that James Dean was mlm, but so were the director and Sal Mineo. big bi polyam vibes; if you like chishimondo as a ship you’ll probably like this film too.
Hifumi: Akira (1988, dir. Katsuhiro Otomo) - had a hard time figuring out what to put for Hifumi, but overall i think if nothing else he’d appreciate how impressive the animation was (and honestly, still is) along with the fact that the mangaka was also the director. so although there’s a lot cut out (the manga had not finished before the film came out), it’s still roughly the same plot as the manga.
Celes: Dracula (1931, dir. Tod Browning) - probably the most iconic iteration of Bram Stoker’s novel, this is the one staring Bela Lugosi. not terribly true to the novel from what i remember, but it’s peak aesthetic and exactly the kind of thing she’d enjoy.
Sakura: Rashomon (1950, dir. Akira Kurosawa) - finally getting onto films i haven’t actually seen but that are on my list. sakura’s another person i had a hard time deciding on a film for, but the “several characters telling different accounts of the same plot” reminded me a bit of her case in the game.
Hina: West Side Story (1961, dir. Robert Wise & Jerome Robbins) - admittedly i had a different film in mind for her to start with, but Maria’s final monologue fits with Hina’s motivations during Sakura’s case.
Toko: Gone With the Wind (1939, dir. Victor Fleming) - another one i haven’t actually watched yet, but it’s based on a famous novel, described as “epic historical romance.” i think that vibes with Toko pretty well.
Byakuya: Citizen Kane (1941, dir. Orson Welles) - if you’re really interested in film, you’re gonna be made to watch this sooner or later. famous for being the “best film ever made”, it’s more or less about newspaper moguls like William Randolph Hearst - who is also the main reason why this film is famous at all. it’s not exactly a flattering depiction of those kinds of people and boy, did that ever piss Hearst off. if he hadn’t made such a big deal trying to keep Citizen Kane from seeing the light of day, something much better might have made it to the top spot.
Hiro: The Music Man (1962, dir. Morton DaCosta) - based on the Broadway musical of the same name, a “travelling salesman” (read: con artist) starts to work his latest con on a gullible small town, but actually starts liking the people in it.
Kyoko: The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956, dir. Alfred Hitchcock) - not to be confused with the other Hitchcock film from the 30s also titled The Man Who Knew Too Much. this is the one with James Stewart and Doris Day. it’s a highly suspenseful film that gave us the song “Que Sera, Sera (Whatever Will Be, Will Be)”.
Junko: Gaslight (1944, dir. George Cukor) - ever heard the term “gaslighting”? this is where it comes from! based on a play in which a woman’s husband psychologically tortures her into believing she is going insane.
Monokuma: Duck Soup (1933, dir. Leo McCarey) - all Marx Brothers films are as utterly silly (and sometimes as incomprehensible) as one of Monokuma’s MonoTheatres. i watched about half of Duck Soup and had to stop because it was finals week and i was supposed to be doing something other than losing my shit.
Hajime: It’s a Wonderful Life (1946, dir. Frank Capra) - you probably already know this film. if you’re Christian you know it as That Film Your Parents Watch Every Year On Dec 24th Around Midnight. if you have seasonal depression, don’t watch it then; warning for suicidal ideation. it’s supposed to be uplifting. your mileage may vary on that one.
Impostor: To Kill a Mockingbird (1962, dir. Robert Mulligan) - i don’t have a good reason to pair these two up other than gut feeling. as far as film adaptations of books go, it’s pretty damn good, and Atticus Finch is the original DILF. themes of childhood innocence and racism.
Teruteru: Breakfast at Tiffany’s (1961, dir. Blake Edwards) - apparently much different from the novella on which it is based, but i think Teruteru would really dig the aesthetic and romantic vibes of the film. Holly Golightly is probably the original Manic Pixie Dream Girl.
Mahiru: Rear Window (1954, dir. Alfred Hitchcock) - like It’s a Wonderful Life, chances are good you know this film - or at least, you’ve seen its plot recycled a hell of a lot. a professional photographer recovering from a broken leg thinks he witnesses a murder take place and is determined to get to the truth.
Peko: Seven Samurai (1954, dir. Akira Kurosawa) - another one on my to-watch list, but it’s oft referenced and remade in film. a village hires seven ronin to protect them from bandits who will return to steal their crops.
Hiyoko: East of Eden (1955, dir. Elia Kazan) - i’ll be honest here, i didn’t really know what to put for Hiyoko because i’m not sure i understand much about her, but i seem to remember her family playing a pretty big role in her being Like That and for “shitty family” the first two things to come to mind were this and Giant. and unless you like 3-hour long movies about the state of Texas, i’m not about to recommend you watch Giant.
Ibuki: A Night at the Opera (1935, dir. Sam Wood) - another Marx Bros film in which they help a girl both to be with her lover and to achieve her dreams of stardom as an opera singer. the kind of silly, manic thing i think Ibuki would like.
Mikan: The Shining (1980, dir. Stanley Kubrick) - i hate hate hate putting this on here, but since this is for film and not books i couldn’t exactly state to read the book. the book is about the cycle of abuse. the movie is more about... a trapped man going crazy in a spooky hotel.
Nekomaru: It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World (1963, dir. Stanley Kramer) - comedy about five groups of people racing to get to a large sum of money buried by a recently escaped convict they stopped to help out after his car crash. it’s a comedy, and just kinda seemed like Nekomaru’s thing.
Gundham: The Seventh Seal (1957, dir. Ingmar Bergman) - i watched this in like 10th grade and all i really remember is a man playing chess with Death and if that doesn’t say Gundham Tanaka to you, i don’t know what does.
Nagito: North by Northwest (1959, dir. Alfred Hitchcock) - i don’t really have a reason for this one either but it’s a spy film and i think komaeda could get behind that kind of intrigue.
Chiaki: Metropolis (1927, dir. Fritz Lang) - not to be confused with the anime, this is a 1927 German expressionist film that seems to be about socialism and unionization. it’s also famous for its (purposeful) use of the Male Gaze and being one of the first sci-fi films ever made. be warned: it is a silent film.
Sonia: Strangers on a Train (1951, dir. Alfred Hitchcock) - another one of those films you’ll get told to watch if you’re interested in the queer history of film, i was gonna put something else but honestly the character of Barbara kinda reminded me of Sonia. a famous tennis player meets a man on a train who attempts to plan a double-murder with him.
Akane: My Fair Lady (1964, dir. George Cukor) - i was trying so hard not to double up on the post about musicals, but Akane really does have Eliza Doolittle vibes. they’re both feral and nothing would be able to really domesticate them. for whatever it’s worth, this film and the musical on which it is based is itself based on the play Pygmalion, in which your typical rich cishet white dude bets he can turn any street urchin into a real lady because he’s just that good. you might know the plot better as Pretty Woman.
Kazuichi: A Streetcar Named Desire (1951, dir. Elia Kazan) - i don’t really have a good excuse for this one, either; i haven’t even watched it yet (although i have read the play on which it is based). all i’m gonna say is i want Souda to have his gay awakening via Marlon Brando, as we all do.
Fuyuhiko: Casablanca (1942, dir. Michael Curtiz) - despite his love and adoration for Ingrid Bergman, Humphrey Bogart decides fighting Nazis is more important. i think Fuyuhiko would like the aesthetic, and the film. don’t let him know but i think he’d probably cry watching it.
Usami: To Sir, With Love (1967, dir. James Clavell) - issues of race and class intersecting in a film about a teacher working with inner city students. i was going to put Singin’ in the Rain here, because it’s what Usami would want people to watch...but i think this better fits the effect she wants to have as a being.

Time for a review! Robot Trains magazine, issue 6, right under the cut!
Issue six of a two-monthly magazine means that it's been a year since the first issue! That's right, this little magazine has just reached its first anniversary. I never thought it will survive for so long, and I'm happy I can colect all those Robot Train figures!
Tumblr media
This issue comes with a Victor toy. You can instantly recognize this character's distinctive shape. The blue colour however seems to be a bit too bright, even by Season 2 standards. This toy isn't darker than Kay in Season 1 paint, and Kay always looks brighter than Victor in the show, so the figures look kinda weird next to each other. This is however just a minor issue that doesn't bother me that much.
Tumblr media
The toy's surface is very flashy and it's hard to make a good photo. It is much more flashy than Alf ans Selly toys from earlier issues.
Tumblr media
I love that the figure has a chimney on the back! Also the tiny details on wheels on its legs are a nice touch.
Tumblr media
Victor's face isn't made from a separate piece of plastic, as I first thought, but rather it is a part of the main body, carefully painted. The paint job is really well done, unlike for example the earlier Kay or Alf figures. I wanted to know what is behind Victor's face but the toy doesn't get that detailed lol. Also the body looks like it is falling apart in half, but using a bit of force to try and separate the parts had no effect, apparently the toy is tougher than it looks and won't break so easily.
Tumblr media
There is something wrong with Victor's eyebrows, they look like something messed with the plastic. This is only visible when looking closer though.
Tumblr media
Here's Victor among other Robot Trains. They look so good together! I'm proud of my little collection. You can also see Jeanne in the back row, she is a regular Robot Train toy I bought separately because I saw no chances of her being included in the magazine's collection, and she actually seems to be in the same scale as the figures, maybe a little bit too small but it doesn't stick out as much as, well, Duke and Duck.
Tumblr media
Time for the magazine. Victor is in full Season 2 mode, wearing brighter blue paint and striking a pose. His special trait is strength and power, and a piece of trivia claims he is actually shy, quiet and sensitive, and his biggest passion are flowers. The editor probably took some liberties here as it doesn’t sound accurate.
Tumblr media
Fitting with the Victor theme, there is a four-page-long story based on the episode “Oh, Victor! Mr. Romantic!”, followed by a coloring page. To make things harder, kids should also draw the path of Alf's hook. To me, Victor's drill upgrade looks both cool and silly, but it's impressive how good it looks as a 2D image.
Tumblr media
Of course there is a poster! I laughed at this because it looks like Gary is jumping from the cliff to his death (and I still dislike Gary) lol. The other side of the poster has the Rail Watch in train mode, flying Alf, and X Family running after them (even Master X is running, quite unusual for him).
Tumblr media
Next pages are just the usual games and puzzles for kids. The magazine recycles the same ideas all the time, simply changing the images used. It gets boring for me, but considering the magazine is released every two moths, a child might already forget what happened last issue, I guess. Also I'm pretty sure seeing a favourite character is enough to make the games fun. Take this image for example - “who is missing on the bottom picture?” - and look how appropriately small Train X appears next to the others! I'm glad the editors pay attention to such details.
Tumblr media
Which route should Duck choose to reach Waterland? It's funny that apparently you can reach Train X's lair just by picking the wrong route, shouldn't it be better hidden?
A few more puzzles and the issue is done. Who will be the hero of the next one? Maybe Jeffrey, to complete the original cast of robots, and also I would love a Jeffrey toy? Or maybe Genie or Maxie, to match the magazine's switch to Season 2?
Tumblr media
...Is that some kind of joke? The next issue doesn't only come with a Gary toy, the toy will be in train mode to boot! That sounds pretty lame to me and since I'm buying the magazine mostly for the toys, I might skip the next issue. I don't like Gary, and a train toy is a bit lazy in my opinion.
Still, the next issue was originally planned to be released on 17th June, but later it was postponed - most probably because of the pandemic's impact on sales and delays in shipments from China (the figures are all Made in China). Right now the publisher's website says next issue premieres today (16th July), and will include Gary in robot mode! I need to see the toy myself - if it really is a robot, I might actually buy it. Only to make my Robot Train shelf look more crowded.
This issue gets a 8/10 rating from me - I really like the Victor figure.
Thanks for reading! Next review will be soon or two months later, depending on how much I like the Gary toy.

(Him and the misses got into an argument.)
Miss. Alford: “WILLIAM, I HAVE TOLD YOU ABOUT COMING HOME DRUNK FURTHERMORE!”
William: “YOU, DON’T RUN ME WOMEN!”
(The two argued back and forwards with each other.)
(Miss. Alford stormed off, leaving the dazed but drunk William there with Elosie, who happens to have overheard the whole argument.)
(William bolted towards and manhandled Elosie.)
Elosie: *screaming* “Let me go Missa!”
William: “Quiet N***er!”
(William dragged Elosie outside to the side of the house where he raped her tell she stared to bleed.)
(Slave #1 and Elosie’s sister found Elosie laying there.)
Elosie’s sister: *crying* “Elosie.” “Elosie, sweetie wake up.”

Eloise: *grunts*
Eloise’s sister: “She’s here Eloise!” “She’s here!”
*baby starts crying*
Eloise: *crying, tears of joy * “She’s adorable.”
Slave #1: “What are you going to name her, Elosie?”
Eloise: “Letitia…” “Letitia Gannibal”
CHARMED THEME SONG MUSIC
[Scene: September 22nd, 2017 – 11:00 pm. Living Quarters at Magic School with Chris, Melinda, Henry Jr., and Hayley.]
(Chris, Henry Jr., and Hayley are chatting among each other)
Henry Jr.: “So you’re telling me, Wyatt tried to kill you?”
Hayley: “Like, kill – kill you?”
Chris: “Yea, he actually did.” *looks over to Wyatt* “I can’t stand him sometimes, but he’s my brother, and I still love him.”
Melinda: *reads Wyatt’s mind* “He’s thinking the same thing Chris.”
Chris: “Didn’t mom tell you stop reading people mind?”
Henry Jr.: “Yo, you can read minds Mel?” “That’s sick!”
Hayley: “Neither me nor Henry didn’t come into our powers till we were 10-years-old!”
Henry Jr.: “You’re like 2, right?”
Melinda: *gives Henry Jr. a dirty look. * “Just because my birthday is on a Leap Day, doesn’t mean I’m 2-years-old stupid!”
(Chris and Hayley laughs at Melinda’s clapback at Henry Jr.)
[Scene: Still in Magic school, but with Piper, Phoebe, Paige, Wyatt, and Leo.]
(Wyatt sitting alone from the rest of the kids.)
(Paige orbs in with Piper and Phoebe)
Piper: “Wyatt Matthews Halliwell, get your butt over here now, mister!”
(Wyatt walks over slowly.)
(Wyatt approaches Piper with his head slumped down.)
Piper: “You sir, have gotten out of hand!”  “You used magic in public, that one!” “You used magic on your father, that two!” “You used magic-”
(Leo steps in and cuts Piper off.)
Leo: “Piper, let him catch a break”
Piper: *exhale* “You’re grounded, for 2 weeks!” “No magic, no video games, no hanging out afterschool for anything!”
Wyatt: “But Chris u-”
Piper: “Don’t you BUT me mister!” “I mean it!”
(Piper starts chanting)
Piper: “I don’t think he comprehend.”
“He uses magic to depend”
“Child lock them for two weeks, till then”
(White orbs form centers around Wyatt.)
(The orbs shift into a form of a lock and magically goes into Wyatt.)
Piper: “When I meant no magic, I meant it.”
(Wyatt walks away.)
Phoebe: “Piper sweetie, I don’t think that was a smart idea.”
Piper: “Whenever that” *points to Phoebe’s pregnant stomach* “comes into his powers, then you can do whatever you want to do with him and his powers.”
Paige: “Uhm, I have kids.” “Matter-of-fact, they developed powers similar to yours Piper.” “Honey, I feel like you did the wrong thing.”
(Piper sits down in a chair.)
(She fixes her long-layered bangs and crosses her legs.)
Piper: “What's done is done.” “I didn’t strip him of his powers, I just put a child lock on them so he can’t use them freely.”
[Scene: Still in Magic school, cuts back to Chris, Henry Jr, Hayley, and Melinda.]
(Chris, Henry Jr, Hayley, and Melinda are still chatting among each other.)
(Wyatt walks over.)
Wyatt: “Chris, can I talk to you?”
Chris: “Yes.”
(Chris and Wyatt walk over to the side from everyone else.)
Wyatt: “You know, I never had the attendance to harm you.” “I never should have used magic on you in the first place.”
Chris: “I never should have cut you off or be an asshole to you, or even st-.”
Wyatt: “Stop it Chris.” “I was in the wrong also.” “For god shakes, I almost killed you!”
Chris: “Can we agree, not to kill each other?”
Wyatt: “I can’t make any promises.” *laughs*
(Wyatt and Chris hug.)
Henry: “Ok kids, it’s time to go to school go to bed.”
(Every child heads to a room to sleep.)
(Henry Jr puts up a biker with Henry.)
Henry Jr.: “But dad, its Friday?”
Henry: “Bed, now Jr.”
Henry Jr.: “Fine!”
(Henry Jr. walks to bed.)
[Scene: September23rd, 2017 – 8:25 am In the Underworld with Prue.]
(Prue is now out of her outfit that was covered in dust “death outfit”.)
(She is now wearing a sheer-black tank top, black high waisted pants, and Yuko-40 platform heels.)
(Prue is sitting at The Source’s throne.)
(Demon shimmers into the underworld.)
Demon with shimmering power: “Prue Halliwell.” “What the hell are you doing here?”
Prue: “Haven’t you heard,” (hopes down from the throne.) “I’m here to run this place.” *flips hair* “And you are?”
Zygon: “Zygon.” “I’ve heard about you.”
Prue: “Ahh, do tell.”
(Zygon walks up to Prue.)
Zygon: *walking circles around Prue* “The Charmed One.” “The Power of Three.” “A trio, well quartet, of sister witches.” “Destined to serve the good and good only.”
Prue: *nods her head* “Stop.” “For starts,” *flips hair* “I’m not a good witch.” “I don’t do good.”
Zygon: “Oh, Honey, do you even remember yourself?” “You’re one of them.” “But something is different about you.”
(Zygon stare into Prue’s eyes.)
Zygon: “You’re newly empowered.”
Prue: “What does that even means?”
Zygon: *still circling walking around Prue* “The Window of Opportunity, my dear.”
“Prue: “What does that mean?”
Zyon: “You, can easily be persuaded to be either good or evil.” “By the looks of it, you’re already chosen that path.”
(Prue folds her arms.)
Prue: “I got to get my hands on that book.”
Zygon: “What book.” “Are you referring to The Grimoire?”
Prue: *little smirk*“No, stupid” “It’s this book, that I keep having flashes about.” “Ritch-violet, red cover, with the named engraved into it, kind of on the smaller side.”
Zygon: “Never heard of it.”
Prue: “Maybe those women who called me their ‘sisters’ have it.”
Zygon: “Might I say, I could be some help.”
(Prue uses telekinesis tosses Zygon into a wall.)
(Prue then uses telekinesis to pin him down on the floor.)
Prue: “Thanks for the offer, but I got this.” “I’m going to look for that book.” “Regardless of what I have to do.”
(Prue gives Zygon a wink as she astral teleports out from the underworld.)
[Scene: 9:00 am – Split screen phone conversation between Darry, who is at the San Francisco Police Department. Paige, who is at Magic School.]
*cellphone rings* Darryl: “Go for Morris.” *clutches his mobile with phone with shoulder* *Paige explaining to Darryl about Prue* “Say what now!?”
Paige: *abbreviating herself* “Prue, is alive.”
Darryl: “But ho- how?”
(Paige explains to Darryl how Prue came back in further details.)
Paige: “Can you put an IP out for her?” “Just in case she shows up?”
Darryl: “Sure, Paige.”
Paige: “Thank you.”
(Paige hangs up the phone with Darryl.)
(Darryl walks out his office.)
Darryl *in a loud voice*: “Alright, we are putting IP out for a ‘Jane Doe’.” “Caucasian, black hair, green eyes, mid-to late 40’s.”
Female Detective: “Does she have any medical conditions?”
Darryl: “She, doesn’t remember herself.”
[Scene: 9:20 am- Living Quarters at Magic School with Paige, Phoebe, and Coop.]
(Paige hangs up the phone with Darryl.)
Phoebe: “So, what did he say?”
Paige: “Well, he placed an IP out for her, just in case she decides to resurface back on the Earth place.”
Phoebe: “Maybe I could sense her to see if she did.”
Coop: “Phoebe, I don’t think it would be good to use your powers to the distinctive level.” “It might induce your labor.”
Phoebe: This is my sister for god shakes, I at least have to try.”
(Paige pulls Coop to the side.)
Paige: “Piper, Leo and I are going to speak The Tribunal.”
Coop: “The Tribunal?” “Why?”
Paige *bobbing her head*: “For starters, we don’t know, hell, nobody from ‘Up there,’ knows about the book.” “Maybe The Tribunal could help.”
Coop: “Last time you all went there for help, they stripped Phoebe of her powers.” “We don’t know what they might do to Piper for finding the book, let alone for Wyatt for casting a spell.”
(Piper walks in.)
Piper: “That’s a risk I’m willing to take.” “We are all willing to take.” *walks closer to Paige and Coop* “We need answers, and we need them now.” “Even if that requires a consequence of having are powers striped, goddamnit, I’m willing to do so.”
(Leo walks in.)
Paige: “Are you ready?”
Piper and Leo: “Yes.”
(Piper and Leo hold on to Paige and orbs out, leaving Coop with Phoebe.)
[Scene: 9:48 am- Still in Living Quarters at Magic School with Phoebe, and Coop.]
(Phoebe gets into a mediation position.)
Phoebe: “I need complete quietness, please.”
(Phoebe closes her eyes and starts of sensing for Prue)
Phoebe: “I can’t sense her.”
Coop: “Phoebe, I think you should stop.”
Phoebe: “Instead of me sensing her like any other normal person, I’m going to try sensing her through are blood relationship.”
(Phoebe was able to sense her.)
(Phoebe starts to levitate)
Coop *with panic in his voice*: “Phoebe, stop.” “You’re scarring me.”
Phoebe: “I can sense her.” “She’s not in The Underworld, but where?”
(Phoebe’s eyes turn pure white as her premonition power kicks to get a glace of the area.)
(*flashes* The San Francisco Police Department.)
(*flashes* Prue walking into the station.)
(*astral premonition in an invisible form*)
Darryl: “Prue, you don’t have to do this.”
Prue: “Oh, but I do.” “If you’re going to put an IP on me,” *punches Darryl* “leave a women age out of it!” “Oh look, I got blood on your white shirt.” “To bad.”
(Darryl passes out.)
(Prue hears astral Phoebe’s thoughts.)
(Prue starts to chant.)
Prue: “What is not seen”
       “Make seen”
(astral Phoebe visibly fades into a corporal form.)
(Prue gives an evil smirk.)
astral Phoebe: “How can yo-”
Prue: “- You read thoughts?” “I guess my powers are growing also.” “I don’t know where you and your *air quotes* sisters hiding, I will get you.” “I will get that book.” “And I will be the new Queen of the Underworld.” “LEAVE!”
(Premonition ends.)
(Phoebe flops back down to the grown from levitating.)
(Phoebe’s water’s breaks.)
Coop: “I told you that you should have stop, Phoebe!”
Phoebe: “Would you shut up for one second and get me to the infirmary!”
[Scene: 10:00 am- At The Tribunal’s meeting area with Leo, Piper, and Paige.]
(Paige orbs in with Piper and Leo.)
(Piper and Paige starts chanting.)
Piper and Paige: Di! Ecce hora! Uxor mea me necabit!
(The Tribunal appears)
Tribunal all together: “How may we help you this time, The Halliwells?”
Piper: “Well, I found this book while having work done at the manor and I came across this book with the title Book of Damned.’”
(All the Tribunal have a puzzled look on their face.)
(Start to whisper among each other.)
Piper: “Helllo people, we still need answer?”
Crill: “Book of Damned goes back to Salm Witch times.”
Paige: “That is why we seen Melinda Warren in Phoebe’s vision.”
Thrask: “As long as nobody cast a spell from that book, we should be fine.”
(Piper, Paige, Leo give each other a startled look.)
Leo: “Why not?”
Adair: “That book is magically linked to Letitia Gannibal.”
Piper: “I’m sorry who again?”
Crill: “Letitia Gannibal” “Just like how the Warren- Halliwell bloodline stared, the Gannibal-Bennett line started.” “She’s was the first of her bloodline to earn magic also.”
Thrask: “Instead of using her magic for good, she used it for evil.” “Starting the mythological of The Window of Opportunity.”
Paige: “What would happen if such casts a spell from the Book of Damned?
Adair: “If anyone casts a spell out of that book, will awaken Letitia herself!”
Leo: “Well we have a problem.”
Piper: “Wyatt cased a resurrecting spell, which brought back Prue from the dead.” “She doesn’t remember her and she’s using magic for evil acts.”
Adair: “Prue is going through the Window of Opportunity, meaning that she has 48 hours to choose a side to align with.”
Piper: “What the hell you mean the Window of Opportunity, she was already a good witch!”
Thrask: “By the looks of it, she self-choice evil.” “She has time to algin with good if she pleases.”
(The Tribunal looks among each other.)
Crill: “As for Wyatt, he will be held accountable for his acts for using forbidden magic.”
(The Tribunal summons Wyatt present.)
Wyatt: “Why am I here?”
Thrask: “Wyatt Halliwell, you are charged with using forbidden magic, by awaking a force of evil.”
Wyatt *with range in his voice*: “How the hell I suppose to know it was an evil book.” “Bullshit!”
Piper: “Language, mister!”
Wyatt: “I want a trial!” “I demand a trail now!”
Thrask: “Piper, Paige, I’ve just been informed that Phoebe just had her baby.”
Piper: “Paige you go back and check up on Phoebe, I’m staying her.” “There is no way in hell they are going to strip Wyatt of his powers.”
Adair: Actually Ms. Halliwell, we prefer Leo to stay while you and Paige go back to aid your sister.
(Piper rolls her eyes.)
Paige: Piper sweetie, just come on.
Piper: “Fine!” “Leo, let me know what happens.” Don’t leave any details ou—”
(Paige orbs her and Piper out before Piper gets to finish her word.)
Crill: “Let the trail begin.”
Adair: “For the plaintiff side, we have Zankou”
Leo: “Zankou!?”
(Zankou is summoned in flames)
Zankou: “Miss me?”
Thrask: For the dependent side we have Kyra.”
(Kyra is summoned in white orbs.)
Kyra*with a big smile on her face*: “I guy!”
Leo: “Kyra, I haven’t seen you since- ”
Kyra: “Since I was vanquished.” “I know.”
The Tribunal: “Let us begin!”
[Scene: 1:20 pm- Magic School’s infirmary with Phoebe, Coop, Piper, and Paige.]
(Paige orbs in with Piper.)
(Phoebe is swaddling her newborn.)
Piper: “Phoebe.” “Phoebe, are you ok.”
Phoebe: “I’m fine Piper.” “Everything is fine.”
Coop: “I want everyone to meet Ryan Victor Halliwell.”
Piper *with a smile in her face and tears forming in her eyes *: “Victor.”
Phoebe *smiling, crying*: “Dedicated after are father Victor.”
Coop: “He weighted a whooping 9 pounds.”

Darryl: “Why can’t I move?”
Prue: “Because, I’m using my powers to tame you.”
Darryl: “What do you want from me?”
Prue: “It’s not what I want from you” “It’s what I want to trade you for.”
(Darryl brakes loose from Prue’s telepathic withholding.)

Paige: “Yep, that’s the plan.” “But, trust us, we will be right there behind you.”
Piper: “Phoebe what did you want with the book?”
Phoebe: “I’m looking at the binding potion in the book.” “Something had me thinking, what if we tinker with the potion.
Piper: “Go on.”
Phoebe: “Instead of binding with Prue’s powers, we remove them, hoping it would break her from The Window of Opportunity.”
Paige: “That might actually work.”
(Ryan, who is in his bassinet, starting crying.)
Phoebe: “Oh is little Ryan hungry?” “Oh yes he is, Oh yes he is.”
(Sheila walks over to the bassinet.)
Shelia: “He looks just like Coop.”
Phoebe *bottle feeding*: “He really does.”

Phoebe*pulls out the Book of Damned*: “This book?”
Prue: “Yep, now be a gem and hand it over, or Darryl here will be a vegetable for the rest of his living, breathing live.”
Piper: “Now!”
(Paige throws the potion as Phoebe opens up the corked glass bottle so that she would be able to capture Prue’s powers.”
Prue: “No!”
(Prue uses advanced telekinesis to have the bottle bust before traveling her way.)
(This causes the bottle to burst in front of Piper instead.)
(The potion working biding every sister power, but Phoebe, that makes them Charmed - Piper’s Molecular Immobilization, Prue’s Telekinesis, and Paige’s Telekinetic Orbing.)

(Shelia and Phoebe walks over to help Darryl)
Paige: “Ok, Let’s go now!”
(Paige orbs all of them out of there back to Magic School.)
