bookchin and durkheim

there's a striking parallel between emile durkheim's "the elementary forms of the religious life" and murray bookchin's "social ecology and anarchism".

durkheim, in his observations of totemism in australia (at times rather prejudiced, as is custom for his time) comes to a striking conclusion. people classify themselves into clans, and each clan has a totem - an animal, plant or natural phenomenon that's usually an important part of their everyday life. however, not only people are assigned the clan name, but also OTHER animals/plants/phenomena connected in some way to the one whose name the clan bears. sometimes, it's obvious - birds are considered a part of the wind clan. other times, not so much - certain types of fish are a part of the snake clan. etc... durkheim concludes that humans are capable of this "rudimentary" organizing and classifying of nature BECAUSE they've first classified and organized themselves into certain societal roles and categories. how we view nature then is socially constructed...

and that last idea is the basis of bookchin's idea of social ecology. he points out how in more egalitarian tribal societies, like those studied by durkheim, animals, plants and natural phenomena were thought of as equal and interconnected to humans, all of them a part of a natural cycle necessary for maintaining balance. when monarchy was the prevailing form of social organization, people considered the lion a "king" ruling over the other animals (now seen as inferior to humans), each of whom had a fixed role and characteristics. when capitalist "individualism" came along, it was accompanied by the competitive, "survival of the fittest" theory of nature.

so... drifter's fucked up hand, am I right?

I was wondering how drifter could have fixed their hand before new war since their hands are normal looking in the origin system. then I remembered.

natah is a mimic.

so what if her hand slowly took on the appearance of drifter's normal hand and they are part sentient now. this would also be the reason they can use transference, based on what teshin tells us when we choose our warframe.

they also threw up their hand during the natah chase scene in New war like they expected to be able to do something to defend themselves. it wasn't an "I'm trying to shield myself" move, it was an "I'm trying to return fire" move

I made a post about the theories I’ve had about Garrett being The Puppet and where I think he may be hiding/trapped in.

I’ve considered many things.

Maybe Garrett’s body is locked behind a box.

Maybe The Puppet is locked behind a box.

Maybe they’re stuck in another location.

Or maybe William thought of a plan.

I mean, he didnt actually think the damn thing could pose as much of a threat.

How could a little boy pose so much of a threat to the point where he couldn't sleep at night? Even in the comforts of his own home, in his bed, he could still feel the glowing eyes of a tall and slender figure staring right down at him.

Every. Night.

Vanessa wasn't much help, not with her constant nightmares, all the old man could do was just sit back and accept it. Accept the consequences of his actions, accept that there probably is an afterlife and he’ll go to Hell, and accept that he won't be able to take much more of this until he breaks.

But a man has to come to certain conclusions ever now and then.

He’s a businessman, a single father, the man of the house, a man with so much potential all crunched up by a little boy who cried too long and hard.

A little boy...

A crybaby, even.

There's a better way to this.

A smarter way.

Old man Afton encouraged him to be a true man and face his difficulties head on, not just cry about them. He knows better than to let a child, of all people, bring him down when he has so much to offer the world. So maybe he can manufacture something to help him sleep better at night.

It wasn't easy.

To create something as important and secret as this machine.

So many hours were spent sketching and creating even the slightest factors to get it correct. Carving and procuring the proper materials, painting the ideal colors, and even playing the right music to ensure that every note was played exactly to tune. Even yet, as William placed the final piece on top of the animatronic, he smiled proudly at the sight of a red top hat.

"There ya' go," he said as he patted the animatronic's crimson cheek, gleefully watching as its eyes glowed with a ginger tint.

It looked beautiful.

Black fur, grey undertones, crimson highlights, and sparkling stars shined even in the darkest of nights.

“Beautiful, just beautiful.”

The bear stared down at the older man, its thoughts not on how the exhaustion had taken its toll. Not the sweat, the unkept hair, the patchy beard, or even the bags under his eyes. It had no negative thoughts against its creator nor did it have positive ones.

It just had one goal in mind.

I’m gonna @pillowspace because this post regards the Puppet/Marionette in fnaf 6

so I was watching a fnaf meme video and one of the memes was about how in ultimate custom night, you don’t see the Puppet at all in Lefty’s jump scare sequence, but you see her arm jutting from one of the openings between Lefty’s shoulder and arm, suggesting the Puppet is crammed at the bottom of Lefty. here’s the meme

anyways, I thought it was funny. then I thought, “hey, what if the person that made this meme is CORRECT?”

so I searched up Lefty’s height. I didn’t find much about their height, but I did see a lot of blue prints made by fans! based on fan theories, I decided Lefty is roughly 5’11-6’0, since 6’5 seems a little tall for this bear. then I searched up Marionette’s height! like Lefty, I got mixed results on her height. but I went with 4’6, as it seems pretty tame (not to mention Mari was made for Charlie, who was canonically 3 at the time, so the Puppet needed to be short as to not scare Charlotte)

this is the comparison between the two’s heights. so if 5’11 and 4’6 is their canonical heights, Mari was DEFINITELY crammed down inside Lefty in ultimate custom night, going by the weird logic of the Puppet being in Lefty still even though they are BOTH separate characters from each other.

I honestly just thought this was interesting, especially because I’ve begun to have a hyper fixation on explaining things or head canons I have about my favorite fnaf characters. (take my Circus Baby/Elizabeth post and how she has the most tragic backstory—besides maybe Charlie—for example, cause I REALLY went into a rant when I was writing that one. I tried to make this one shorter so it’s easier to understand even though it’s just me talking about the Marionette. also, I really feel bad for Mari in fnaf 6. if you really think about the major height difference they most likely had, the Puppet was definitely uncomfortable in Lefty)

Republicans are bitching about the “white replacement” conspiracy theory bullshit but they won’t do anything that would actually help reduce the number of POC babies.

They refuse to give funding to schools in poorer areas- areas that, thanks to racist redlining that went on for 60 years- are mostly filled with POC people. Funds that would go to decent sex education.

They’re against Planned Parenthood, (which will provide condoms and I believe a pamphlet teaching you about the basics of sex ed?) and there are rarely any PP clinics anywhere close to those same neighborhoods.

They’re against abortion and protection. If Roe v Wade gets overturned, there will be no protection for, well, protection. And several republicans have already said that they’d try to make every form of protection illegal.

They’re against relocating some of the funds that goes into the police force towards other social workers that would’ve saved a lot of lives. (Especially black people’s lives.)

And they constantly fight to make guns as available to people as possible, and votes against the Domestic Terrorism bill that was introduced because of the Buffalo shooter.

And then there are leftists who are getting mad at people who don’t say that they’re just “not understanding what they’re doing.”

If they wanted less POC babies, they’d actually put in the work to make sure they have the tools to prevent themselves from getting pregnant/others pregnant. They instead try to make it easier for people to kill them.

Face it- the GOP isn’t “misinformed” and “doesn’t understand.” They’re just evil.
