No one ever prepared you for the pain of being cheated on, you thought that Lee was the one, having been together for five years. You had dreamt of the two of you getting married, being the perfect little housewife for him. You never expected to walk in on him balls deep inside his secretary, the very one he told you not to worry about. Everything was blurry after that, you could barely remember you storming out of his office, or that he didn’t even chase after you. You didn’t wait for him to come home, you immediately packed your things and left the house, letting him come home to an empty house.
It had been two years since you had your heart broken and through those years you had managed to love yourself and find love again, even though your trust issues would spike at times. From time to time, you would get flashbacks of walking in on Lee, getting stabbing pains in your chest when you remember each painful detail of that day. You stare blankly ahead, lost in your thoughts with a coffee in your hand, you couldn’t hear as Steve calls for you.
“Sweetheart.”
You remember walking in, dropping the freshly baked biscuits to the ground as you watched the love of your life fuck into his very young and pretty secretary that’s bent over the desk. You remember how his head turned and he just smirked at you, it felt as though your heart was being ripped out.
“Y/n!” You blink, feeling a burning sensation on your hand and your eyes move down, causing you to notice your recently bought coffee has now crumbled into your hand as the liquid flows out of it, burning your flesh. “Fuck, Honey. Let’s get you cleaned up.” Steve gently removes the ruined coffee from your hold and into the trash before he pulls you over to a bathroom and carefully cleans your hands. “Flashbacks again?” You nod, “I’m sorry, I forgot that, that particular pet name was what he used.”
“It’s okay… It’s my fault.” You stare at him with wide eyes as he glares at you.
“No it’s not, it’s never your fault!” He gently takes your face in his hands and places a soft kiss on your lips.
Steve Kemp, what a dream he was. You had met him during a time where you were between loving yourself and finding love again. You had been walking past your local hospital and ran into him as he was coming out, gobsmacked as to how they hired such handsome doctors. You even blurted out asking if his looks distracted the other doctors from their job. He laughed, causing your mind to become fuzzy as you stared up at him dazedly. For the first time in a long time, you felt happy and through that happiness, you asked him out. Thankfully, he accepted and here you are, staring at the godlike man as he cleans the hot coffee from your hands.
“I love you…” He looks at you and smiles, bringing your hands up to his lips and kissing them softly.
“I love you, honey. Now, there won’t be any scars or damage. So are you ready to go? I can reorder a drink, maybe a cold one this time.” You smile, nodding and letting him help you down from the sink. Steve wraps his arm around you gently, leading you back out into the coffee shop and lines up to reorder an iced coffee.
As you leave the coffee shop, waiting for Steve, your world begins to crash as you hear a familiar voice. “Well if it isn’t my little ol’ sweetheart!” Your eyes widen as you turn and stare at the chubby man making his way over to you. How the hell was this possible? He made it clear that he would never leave his hometown. “You’re a hard woman to find.” He stands in front of you, a smirk on his face. “Now, what do you say, baby. You come back home, this little spat of yours has gone on long enough.” Lee’s grubby hands reach forward and grip your arm, you didn’t know how you ever fell in love with him.
“Get your hands off of me! We are over! Did that not go through your head when I left after I caught you fucking someone else?!” You struggle against his hold, looking behind you in hopes that Steve comes out soon.
“Pfft, please. That wasn’t the first time and it won’t be the last, so now, Sweetheart. You are gonna shut your pretty mouth and come with me, and then, you will turn a blind eye whenever I go out with another woman. You hear?”
“Well that isn’t happening.” Steve steps out, your iced coffee in his hand. He stares down the man, not flinching as Lee tries to intimidate him. “I suggest you let go of my girl.” He speaks slowly, but clearly. When Lee doesn’t let go, only tightening his hold on your arms, causing you to let out a whimper. With quick movement, Steve steps forward and grabs ahold of Lee’s wrist, gripping it and beginning to twist. His glare sharpens as Lee lets out grunts of pain. Steve leans forward and whispers, “If you touch, look, speak or even think of my girl again. I will cut you up into little pieces and serve you to your town.” Lee’s eyes widen and he immediately lets go and backs up, usually nothing would scare Lee, but the seriousness in Steve’s voice and eyes made him rethink everything.
Steve’s arm wraps around you and he hands you your drink, pressing a kiss to the side of your head. “Right, well. You aren’t worth this much trouble.” Lee clears his throat and quickly walks away, and you look up at Steve.
“Did you threaten to cut him up?” Steve looks down at you and smiles.
“Of course, and also you are worth it.” He winks at you and you shake your head with a smile.
“I mean… I wouldn’t stop you if you went through with it.”
And with those words, a plan began to form inside of Steve’s head.

“Please, Lee. Please,” you whispered, voice breaking on the desperate plea as the stray tear you’d been fighting to keep at bay finally slipped down your cheek.
You were quick to wipe it away, shaking your head and looking away from the gaze of the man before you. The smirk that graced his face was the whole reason you had refused to let yourself cry, despite wanting to break down the moment he’d knocked on your door.
You’d just set Teddy in his crib, watching him a moment as the newborn slept peacefully, his tiny breaths and little movements making your heart clench.
You never knew you could love someone so much until you had him. Despite the pain and all the hardships that you’d faced from the day you met his daddy, as you watched Theodore, you were sure you wouldn’t change any of it if it meant never having had him.
You were pulled from your thoughts when you heard a car pull up the drive. You didn’t check the window, sure you knew who it was already as you went to greet him.
Before you were even halfway down the steps, an unnecessarily loud pounding sounded from the front door.
You were startled for a second, brows furrowing as you rushed down the last few steps to open it before whoever it was could pound again and wake the baby.
You were sure now, though, it definitely wasn’t Arvin. He’d never be so careless to knock that loudly, even if he’d left his key and was locked out.
When you pulled the door open in a bit of a huff, your breath froze in your chest.
As you met the hard blue eyes of the man you’d been avoiding for the past 11 months, you weren’t sure what to do. So, you stayed as you were, blocking his view of the house as you pulled the door more closely to your body and watched him. You wouldn’t speak first. You weren’t sure you could.
“Been a while, darlin’.” He greeted, though his words were cold and stiff, as if he was trying to hold in the anger you could see raging in his eyes.
You swallowed hard. “How can I help you, Sheriff?” you asked, ignoring his comment.
He scoffed as he looked down on you. “That’s how you wanna do this, sugar? Fine,” he said before shoving his way into the house.
You were in shock as he pushed past you, your first instinct to yell at him was held back by the knowledge that your baby was asleep just up the stairs.
“What the hell are you doing? You can’t just barge in here because you’re police,” you nearly seethed as you follow him while he walked further in, going toward the kitchen while he looked around the place.
He spun on you at your words and stopped you in your spot. “Honey, I can do whatever the hell I want. Because I’m the sheriff,” he snarled in your face before he backed up just the slightest. He adjusted his belt as he stood to his full height and licked his teeth, trying to compose himself.
“I’m afraid I’ve got some bad news for you, sweetheart,” he started, your heart dropping instantly. “That boyfriend a’yours seems to have gotten himself into some trouble downtown.”
Your mouth went dry as you stared at him dumbly. “No,” you shook your head. “Arvin wouldn’t do anything to get into any kind of trouble. What are you- what are you talking about?” you tried to stay calm, but the stutter was surely telling enough.
“Down at the shop,” he began, taking his time, seemingly enjoying the sight of your anxiousness written all over your face, “he had some words with Levi. Guess the kid made a comment about his girl. Imagine my surprise to find out that girl was you,” he detoured.
“What happened,” you asked pointedly, all while trying to keep your composure and your voice down.
“Well, Mr. Russell didn’t take too kindly to the things Levi said. Lost his temper. I’ll spare you the details, sweetheart. Long story short, Levi’s up at the hospital. Your little boyfriend is up at the jailhouse, waitin’ for his hearin tomorrow mornin’.”
You felt sick. This wasn’t Arvin’s first time in jail but you remember what he told you last time, the judge said one more strike and he’d be taken to county. Arvin wasn’t a bad man. He was one of the best men you’d ever known. But he did have a bit of a short fuse when it came to defending the people he loved. You’d known that since you were in school together. It was one of the things you’d always admired about him..
The one thing you were confused about right now though, was why in the hell Lee was here telling you this.
“Is he okay?” you asked quietly. The narrowing of Lee’s eyes as he looked at you, and the tick of his jaw at your question had your stomach twisting.
“Aw, ain’t that sweet. Look at you, all worried about him.”
“Lee,” you said.
“He’ll be fine,” he gruffed as he went into your fridge and took one of Arvin’s beers. You were in too much of a stupor to do or say anything about it, though.
As you watched him take a swig, your eyes finally fell on his bloodied knuckles.
You took a step back, as if he’d slapped you, somehow knowing exactly how he'd done that.
“What did you do?” you said, accusingly as you reached out and held onto the wall beside you.
“Told ya' I was surprised to hear the girl he was so concerned with, whose honor he needed to protect so badly, was you. I thought you were long gone, sweetheart. But when your name came up, I knew I’d been wrong. Knew you were somewhere out here. Took a bit to finally get him to tell me where you were, but,” he flexed his hand, “they all break in the end.”
You were seeing red at his words. He'd hurt Arvin, and for what? You couldn't let him do this, couldn't let him get to you so easily.
"You need to leave, Lee. Now. If I wanted you to know where I was, you would've. I told you I wasn't gonna wait around for you. You made your choice. So go," you said firmly as you could manage through your tight throat.
You stayed still as he set the bottle down on the counter, stalking over to you. You only blinked when he was right in front of you as you took a shaky breath in and out.
"My choice was you," he said as he pinned you against the wall, his arms trapping you. But you weren't scared. Just solemn. The hurt that never went away radiating in your soul.
"...No, it wasn't," you refuted, voice quiet as you shook your head, looking him in the eye. "It was the job. It was her. You just wanted me to be your good little whore on the side," you continued, disgusted with him and yourself, thinking about the times you let him touch you. The times you gave yourself to him. You should have known from the beginning. Maybe a part of you always did. The only way you'd get your happily ever after was if Lee chose to give it to you.
Lee Bodecker was a selfish, greedy man. He wanted it all, he didn't want to choose. But he had. Whether he acknowledged it or not, he made his choice. As much as it hurt, you had to accept that it wasn't you.
"You know that ain't fuckin' true," he snarled, holding your chin tightly in his hand as you looked up at him. His voice softened as he looked back at you. "I meant all I said to you, darlin'. I love you," he said as he pressed his forehead to yours. "If you'da just been patient," he breathed hotly, "we'd be together right now. I'da got rid of her, just like I told you I would."
The pain slipping into his voice was like daggers in your heart. You wanted so badly to believe him, but you were always told how gullible you were. Especially with Lee, you'd buy into anything he said if he said it prettily enough.
You had known you had to leave town, get away, or else you'd just run right back to him, or he'd find you and convince you to stay. You told everyone you were leaving, making sure word got around, and it did. He was too preoccupied in his campaign to bother doing anything about it, or maybe he just didn't believe you'd actually go. You weren't sure which it was.
You had enlisted the help of Arvin to assist you in packing, he had always been a good friend to you and wanted to do whatever he could. The last day you were packing away, though, you got another bout of morning sickness in front of him.
It was like Arvin knew before you did that you were pregnant. But he never left. He was there for you. Held you when you cried, assured you everything would be okay as you spilled your heart out to him, telling him everything. Instead of moving out of town like you had planned, you moved in with Arvin.
Time seemed to pass you by so quickly from then on. One day Arvin was holding your hair back for you as you emptied your stomach into his toilet, and the next he was holding your hand as you pushed through tears of pain and heartbreak while you delivered your baby in the next town over.
When the nurse had taken Teddy, you were an inconsolable mess of guilt and heartache. Arvin was right there with you, had been from the very start, but he wasn't Lee.
You were crying because Lee should have been there, should have been the one holding your hand and wiping your tears, you should have told him that you were having his baby. The guilt was crushing. Not only for having kept your pregnancy from him, but because the man who stayed beside you the entire time deserved so much better than a broken girl who was still in love with the man who broke her heart. It wasn't fair to any of you.
And then the nurse came back over, holding a blue swaddled bundle in her arms. You timidly took your baby as she handed him over to you and the second you laid your eyes on him, all thoughts just went away. The only thing you could focus on was this precious little life you held in your arms. And though your tears kept flowing, they were of overwhelming joy as you looked down at your sweet Teddy.
Teddy.
You heard him cry and your eyes went wide as Lee kept his hold on you.
Another cry as you swallowed thickly, sure your face was full of desperation as you surveyed Lee.
His brows furrowed as he looked in the direction of the living room, dropping his hand as he moved closer to the noise.
You scurried past him, stopping him from starting up at the stairs.
"Lee," was all you could manage to say.
He looked at you incredulously. "That a baby cryin' up there?" he asked rigidly.
You couldn't breathe. You didn't know what to do. Your guilt was written clear as day on your face as you pouted at him, watering puppy dog eyes pleading with him, for what you weren't sure.
"I'll say this once, then I'm not gonna be nice about it, darlin'. Either answer me or get outta my way."
Still no words could form on your tongue. When he stepped to get up the stairs, you let him pass you before turning around and quickly following him.
Lee followed the sound of the newborn cries up to the nursery. When he got to the door, you watched as he took a steadying breath before he pushed in, like he was readying himself for the sight he knew he'd be met with.
He walked slowly to the crib where Theodore was laying, crying for attention.
Lee's mouth was agape as he looked down at the baby.
Two pairs of brilliantly blue eyes staring back at one another.
You knew Lee knew instantly, there was no denying it. Teddy was his mini me. He looked exactly like his father.
You watched as Lee carefully reached down and took Teddy in his big arms, holding him safely and smiling down at him as Teddy calmed in his hold.
Your nose was tingling and it took everything in you not to burst into tears at the sight.
"What's his name?" Lee asked in a hushed tone.
"Theodore," you answered just as softly.
Theo's baby garbling had Lee laughing as he cooed down at his son. You swore you could see the gleam in Lee's eyes as he watched him.
After a sniff and a clearing of his throat, Lee's gaze shot back to you. Accusatory and angry, his hurt underlining all of it.
"You had my baby, and were just gonna keep 'im from me?"
"No, no I- I was gonna. Gonna tell you. I wanted to, I just didn't know.." you trailed off, wringing your hands.
"Didn't know what?"
"How," you answered. "Didn't know how to. Didn't know how you'd react. Wasn't entirely sure you'd want to know."
"You think I wouldn't want to know that I have a kid?" he asked harshly. You took a step to him, holding your hand out instinctively to remind him that he had the baby in his arms.
"You're married, Lee. You're holding public office. I know you well enough to know that you don't want anything to mess with that. I don't think having a child with someone other than your wife would be looked on too favorably."
"I told you I'd get rid of her," he said again, lowly. "I will."
"Lee, please," you said, exasperated. "I'm sorry. I am. I should have told you, you had a right to know, but I can't do this with you. That's why I left. I do love you," you said brokenly, "I've never stopped. But I can't live my life just waiting for you to call when you want me. And I won't let you do that to Theo, either. He deserves a father who's around, who puts him as a priority,"
"Oh, and you think he'll have that with Arvin?" he challenged. "I wouldn't be too sure, sweetheart. Those charges really have a way of addin' up. Who knows how long of a sentence he'll be gettin' tomorrow."
You couldn't help but stress at his words. You knew some of what Lee had done before, and you know what he'd be willing to do now, to get his way. If he wanted Arvin put away, there wouldn't be anything you could do to stop it from happening.
You may not have been in love with Arvin, but you did love him. He was your best friend; you don't know what you'd be doing or even where you'd be right now if it weren't for his help and care. He didn't deserve to be punished for your mistakes; you couldn't let that happen.
"Why would you do that?" you asked, hurt lacing your voice. "What do you want from me, Lee?"
"You ain't dumb, honey. You know what I want," he said easily as he rocked Theo lightly while he gripped onto his daddy's finger, his big blue eyes falling closed as he drifted back to his peaceful sleep. Lee's blazing blue orbs met yours once more. "I want you. I want this, all a this with you, and him,” he said, sparing another glance to his baby boy.
“Please, Lee. Please,” you whispered, voice breaking on the desperate plea. "You can’t - He needs something stable. Real."
Lee assessed you for a moment before shaking his head with a slight scoff and a smirk. "This is real, darlin'. I'll give you both what you deserve. I just need a little time, that's all," he said as he set Theo back down in the basinet before turning back to you. "Can't make you my wife while I'm still married, but I'll get that taken care of quick. Then you and the baby can get settled in at home, we can finally be together. Just like we always talked about," he continued, taking your hands in his and pulling you in. "Havin' a family," he brought his hand up to tilt your face up to his, brushing his lips against yours. And you let him.
"And it'll be good for reelection next year, too. People like a family man."
You cringed and pulled away at that. At least you tried to, Lee's hold not let you get far at all.
"Don't be like that, darlin'. Come on, you know it'll be good for all of us. We can be happy," he said as his knuckles brushed your cheek.
The touch reminded you, "What about Arvin?"
"What about 'im?" he asked uninterested.
"You'll let him go," you state, grabbing his hand.
"I will," he agrees, "soon as you two are all moved in with me, I'll make sure he's released. Can't have you trying to run off on me again. I won't let you go so easy this time."
You swallowed back the cry that wanted to be let free as you looked at him. You hated that Arvin would have to suffer while you wait on Lee to keep his word. But what else can you do.
"How long?" you ask brokenly, eyes drifting over to the crib. "I can't do this alone."
"Won't be long, sweetheart. She's already been on her way out. A week, two tops. And you won't be alone. If you think for a minute I'd ever not be around for my child, you're outta your mind. If I’d a known sooner, I,” he cut himself off with a shake of his head. “I'll come over every night, check on ya both. You need somethin', you tell me. I'll show you I can take care'a you two better than that boy ever could."
Sweet words. Always so sweet coming from his lips. Your heart aches, for a million different reasons, as you let Lee come closer, pressing his lips to yours before his arms find their way around your frame.
And just like that, after nearly a year of not giving in to the temptation to see him, he has you once more, so easily. He gets what he wants. Just like he always does. Like he always will. You wonder briefly if it will ever be enough. You're not sure you want to know the answer.
"You've got no idea how much I've missed you, darlin'," he whispers against your lips. "Thought about you every damn day."
You feel the tears as they slip down your cheeks, a wave of relief falling over you under his touch, but the guilt still remains... It's just not enough to make you stop him. Not enough to want him to stop.
And the hope for your promised happily ever after renews in your heart. Because maybe you’ll finally get it, just how you pictured, with Lee by your side, starting your own little family.. It’s all you’ve ever wanted.
Lee Bodecker may be a selfish and greedy man.
But maybe you're no better.

“You’re a long way from home, miss Y/L/N.”
Blue eyes pierce into yours, your hand fisted in the fabric of your dress as you stare back at the man. This could not have looked worse. You’re with your date– alone, an hour away from the city, in an empty parking lot. And out of all the people, Lee Bodecker just happens to see the car and stop by.
You weren’t doing anything wrong. Jacob was sweet, the two of you haven’t done anything aside from little make-outs in tiny rooms and the backseat of his car, (he was your first kiss but you didn’t plan on ever telling him that). Jacob made you feel good, he had managed to rope you in with his charming smile and smooth words and finally got you to come to one of his games.
The town loved Jacob, who wouldn’t? He was a star college athlete and anyone would be able to see how big and bright his future is. And you? Well, you were just any regular college student out there. You lived with your parents, have classes all week, and work at an old diner on the weekends for some change.
So the look of surprise on Sheriff Bodecker’s face when he sees you does little to ease your nerves. Nothing had happened in the car…yet. You were surely on the way which is very evident in the matted mess of Jacob’s hair from your fingers, your swollen lips, and your flimsy sundress that’s ridden up your thighs a bit. You try to shift in your seat to bring your dress down a little more, but it only hikes the material up further, a wave of heat running over your body in embarrassment.
“Your daddy know you’re out this late– this far from home, with the star quarterback?” You nearly want to cry when he asks. Your father and Sheriff Bodecker are good friends, best friends some would say, and there’s no doubt he’s going to tell your dad about what he saw tonight. Which means you’ll be forced to stop seeing Jacob. What type of image of your family would you be painting if everyone heard about you sneaking around with a boy late at night? You would become the town's gossip for a while, especially because your dad is the mayor.
“We were just about to head home, sir. Stopped by for a bite to eat.” Jacob speaks up for you, seeing as all the words you know have suddenly escaped your mind. The sheriff doesn’t look at Jacob though, his eyes are still stuck on your nervous figure. A smile cracks across his lips, he looks away, head turning as he lightly laughs, eyes twinkling with the golden hues from the streetlights. He works a toothpick between his teeth, taught muscles working beneath his jaw as he thinks. “You think I don’t know what you two were doing?”
You want the leather seat beneath you to swallow you whole when he looks back at you. “Sir?” Jacob attempts to challenge him, but Lee doesn’t take the bait. He taps the edge of the window once as he stands up straight, a hand settling on his hip as the other tips his hat up a little. “Go home, 24,” Jacob’s jaw tenses at the lack of his name and the use of his jersey number. If the man wasn’t a cop and sure to arrest him, Jacob would’ve punched the douchebag. “Y/N, get your things, I’m taking you home.”
Your shoulders sink, eyes wet with tears as you fight them back. “Uh, sir I don’t… That isn’t necessary, I can take her home.” Jacob attempts, but Bodecker waves a hand. “I’m sure you can. You’ve had your fun, son. Have a safe trip home.” Without another word, he nods toward you and walks to his car.
You quietly grab your things, whisper a small, “Night, Jacob.” and leave, shamefully walking towards the police car. You don’t understand why you feel so guilty, so ashamed– nothing happened! You wanted to spew out a plethora of excuses when you got in the car, but nothing came out. You were too nervous and scared to say anything, and Lee’s intense gaze didn’t help either.
Without a word, he drives off, nothing but the sound of the engine and the faint hum of the radio filling the car. It’s like this for a while, 10 minutes maybe, until Lee reaches over to turn the music down and speaks up, “Are you a virgin, Y/N?”
You nearly choke at his question, looking over at him in shock before looking away in embarrassment when he glances over at you. “I uh..” you clear your throat, shifting uncomfortably in your seat. “Sir?”
“Are you a virgin?” The words make you want to shrink in your seat, and to some extent you do. He glances over at you again, awaiting an answer. It’d be rude to not answer him and you’re already in a lot of trouble. Your fingers twist and pull at the hem of your dress as you answer him, “Y-yes sir.”
He hums, nodding his head in response. Nothing else is said for quite a while again until you break the silence.
“Sheriff?” You’re slightly turned to look at him, watching as he continues to work the toothpick in his mouth. “Doll.” He urges you to continue.
“Are you going to tell my dad?”
When he looks over at you, he almost coos. You’re the sweetest thing Lee Bodecker has ever set his eyes on. He wonders how you’ve survived so long given how naive you can be, but he doesn’t point it out, he’d rather use it to his advantage.
“You know I have to, Y/N.” A frown takes over your face at his answer, you look back down at your lap before looking back at him. “Nothing happened though, sir.” Your weak attempt at saving face.
He hums, head ticking to the side once before shaking in disagreement. “It was only a kiss.” You insist, mere seconds away from begging for mercy, even if you were telling the truth and he was in the wrong.
He doesn’t say anything, and it makes you even more stressed about the situation. He still says nothing as he pulls the car over to the side of the empty road. He parks the car and turns over to you, draping his right arm over the back of the seat, fingers tapping the leather behind you. Your heart races in your chest as he ticks an eyebrow at you. “Now, that’s not what I saw, bunny.” He frowns at you.
You feel so frustrated, on the brink of crying. Nothing happened!
You open your mouth to say something but he stops you. “You’re a sinful little thing, Y/N. Sucking off a boy in an empty parking lot miles from home. What would your parents say, hm? They’d be so disappointed.” Tears are now brimming your eyes, the thought of your parents being so disappointed in you strikes a sensitive nerve. You’re a good girl, you’ve never really done anything bad; hell, you’ve never even been grounded!
“Sucking off? I didn’t…” You’re shaking your head but stop when he shakes his as well. “Don’t waste your excuses on me, little one. They won’t work, better save them for your parents.” His index finger brushes the collar of your dress before he pinches it between his fingers, feeling the soft material as his eyes bore into yours.
“T-they’re not excuses.” You further attempt, frowning when he ticks an eyebrow at you. “Are you calling me a liar, bunny?” You nearly gasp, frantically shaking your head. He looks so upset, hurt, and disappointed and it makes you want to cry. “No! No, sir I-” “That pretty little mouth of yours is going to get you in trouble if you keep talking.” He threatens. You’re quick to shut your mouth and he hums. A shiver runs up your spine when you feel his hand slip beneath your hair, fingers lightly massaging the back of your neck, thumb gently running up and down your pulse.
“Think you need to stuff it full, hm?” His hand is now cupping your jaw, gently forcing it open. You don't think your heart has ever beat as fast as it is now, thrumming in your chest like a caged distraught bird. Two fingers dance across your swollen lips, fingertips catching the wet spit. You whimper, attempting to move your head away, but the look that flashes in his eyes has you stuck as he finally dips into the warm wet cavern of your mouth. “Suck.”
You’re hesitant as you follow his instruction, lips closing around his digits. Instinctively, your tongue swirls over his fingertips and knuckles as you suckle at the two fingers like they’re candy. Throughout this, Lee’s eyes never leave yours, and there's an unspoken warning to not break eye contact unless he says so. You’re sucking on his fingers for a bit of time, a few praises slip his mouth here and there and you suddenly find yourself squeezing your thighs. You try to be subtle about it, but Mr. Boedecker is ever the observant one.
“What are you doing, bunny?” He taunts. You give an eager suck and he softly laughs as you huff in exasperation. “Sucking on daddy’s fingers is making you wet, isn’t it?” He coos. You barely realize it when you nod, eyes fluttering as you squirm in your seat. He tuts, moving closer to you and slipping his other hand up your thigh as you squeeze again. “Open your legs.”
You fail to do it on his first order and it proves to upset him, his fingers digging into the soft skin of your thighs, pulling a squeal from the back of your throat as you comply. “There we go,” He praises, the palm of his hand stroking up and down the inside of your thigh, watching as you struggle to keep them open.
“You should be thanking me, you know.” He tilts his head towards you. You glance down to where he’s rubbing at your thighs, nearing your clothed center every time. “Boys like Jacob only want one thing from dumb girls like you.”
You’re a second away from asking what it is they want, the suspense nearly killing you, but he answers for you. “They just wanna fuck you, sweetheart. Use you up and kick you to the side… you should be thanking me.” He repeats, eyes gleaming with a demand. Through a full mouth you speak, “Thank you.”
He hums again, pulling away his fingers to smear your saliva across your lips as you lightly pant. “Bet you’ve soaked through your panties by now, haven't you?”
You don’t answer, tongue chasing his fingers again, there was something that felt nice about it. However, Lee doesn’t allow you the privilege again, instead, his fingers grip your jaw, wet fingers digging into your cheeks as he forces you to look at him, your eyes fluttering open (you’re not exactly sure when they’d even closed). “Answer me, slut.”
The name makes you whine in humiliation, tears welling in your eyes again. “Y-yes, sir-” “Daddy.” He cuts you off and corrects you. You heavily swallow, a wave of embarrassment and arousal washing over you. “Yes, daddy…” You utter.
He pulls away from you and before you can whine he’s already giving you instructions. “Take off your panties and put them in the glove box.”
You silently gulp, face burning with humiliation as you skate your fingers up your skirt and hook them into the waistband of your panties, dragging the flimsy cotton piece down your legs. You can’t even look at him as you finally get the article off, shutting your legs as you reach forward to stuff them in the glove box as you were told.
“Good girl,” He hums, you glance over, shy from your dirty actions as he watches your every move. “Come here.” God, your head feels light with the mixture of emotions you have, but you do it anyway, not wanting to upset him.
When your thigh brushes up against his, his fingers find their way into your hair, curling to gently tug at your soft strands. “Unbutton my pants and get my cock out.” The feeling of his breath on your cheek as he speaks has you nearly whimpering.
“But sir, I-“ You’re cut off with a sharp tug to your hair, a yelp leaving you as a shot of pain runs through your scalp. “How many times do I have to correct you, hm?” You whine, thighs shifting against each other, you’re ashamed of the way your body is reacting to his words and actions.
“This sweet mouth is clumsy,” His free hand reaches up to squeeze at your cheeks, watching as your lips pucker and you preen in embarrassment. “Needs to be put to work, stuffed full so that little tongue of yours can’t form anymore lies.”
Your right hand is fisting at your dress in your lap, while the other subconsciously falls onto his thigh, nimble fingers curling around the rough fabric of his trousers.
“I don’t like repeating myself.”
He lets go of your face and watches as you take a shaky breath, eyes falling to his lap, his thighs spread with a noticeable bump in between. Your jittery fingers fall onto his belt buckle, swiftly undoing it before doing the same with his button and zipper.
A soft groan nearly leaves him as you reach into his pants and pull his cock out. Your lips are parted in awe at the sight of his prick, hard with a red and drippy tip. He's average length, but is much bigger in girth than most people, Y/N thinks… She doesn’t really have anyone to compare him to.
He nods when you glance at him, scared of what will come next. “Go on, suck my cock pretty girl.”
A part of you doesn’t want to, the fact that this is Lee Bodecker, the town’s sheriff and one of your father's closest friends is all the more reason why you shouldn’t. But the look he’s giving you; not only does it slightly scare you into submission, but it also sends a ping of arousal rushing to your center.
You’re frozen, stuck in place because you’ve never done this before. Making out with Jacob is as sexual as you’ve ever been! You know what sex is, you know what he is asking— telling —  you to do, but…you don’t know how to.
You’re about to tell him, but his patience runs thin as he grips the back of your neck and pushes you down, a yelp leaving you as you fall face-first into his lap. And then your face to face with his cock, glancing up at him as he grips himself from the base. His other hand leaves your neck to push back your hair and you slightly jump when he slaps his cock against your cheek, humming in satisfaction as strings of precum smear across your skin.
“Open your mouth.” He orders, jaw clenched as he tilts his cock towards you. His tip swipes across your lips before he pushes himself in, a soft groan leaving him as he eases into your soft wet mouth. The taste of him bursts against your tongue, salty and slightly sweet, more pleasant than you had imagined, but you fight the urge to make a face anyways. He’s so big in your mouth, stretching your jaw so much you can already feel an ache rising after only a few thrusts. Your eyes are still watching him as he groans above you, head tipping back in ecstasy as he picks up the pace.
One of your hands is gripping his thigh, while the other rests against his hip, nails digging into the soft pudgy skin. Your hands squeeze in surprise when he pushes your head so far down that you gag around him, throat contracting around his cock, pulling a deep groan from him. “Fuck, mouth feels so fucking good. Wanna make you choke on my cum.” He spits out.
You’re ashamed of the way your thighs keep clenching in desire, what for? You don’t know.
Tears of joy nearly spring from your eyes when he pulls you off his prick, but he doesn’t take you far, rubbing his tip against your damp lips. “Spit on it.” His words make you audibly whine as you turn your head, a silent plea to be done, but he tightens his grip on your hair, turning your head back and pulling. A whimper tumbles from your lips “Please-“ “What did I say about repeating myself, bunny?”
You suppress another whimper as your purse your lips, gathering spit in your mouth before spitting it all on his cock, watching as it dribbles down from his tip. Without another word, he shoves himself back between your lips. “Suck it, suck my cock, and make daddy feel good.”
You do as he says, slowly bobbing your head up and down, listening to the words that leave the man above you. You’re sloppy, spit and precum dripping down the sides of your mouth, spilling onto your chin and his pants. “Look at you drooling for my cock,” He coos. You feel so dirty. Guilty and wrong for the part of you that actually wants to satisfy his needs.
“Sucking me like I’m paying you for it…Shit, you were made for this.” His fingers curl in your hair, a whine leaving you as pain shoots all across your scalp. “Yeah, made just for my cock. Only good thing that mouth of yours does.”
Without warning, he holds both sides of your head before thrusting up into your mouth a few times, repeatedly hitting the back of your throat before shoving you completely down. His head tips back as you gag around him, your face pushed up against his soft tummy as he holds you in place. “Fuck,” He drags the word out as you squirm against him. Your hand rises, pressing up against his tummy in a weak attempt to beg for air, but he doesn’t let up as he rocks his hips against your face.
Finally, he pulls you off by your hair with a curse, watching as you gasp for air, choking and coughing on the mix of saliva and his arousal.
You reach up to swipe at the mess on your chin, but he grabs your wrist before you can. To your surprise, his other hand reaches up, fingers curling at the neckline of your dress and yanking it down to reveal your chest. You gasp, your free hand coming up to shield yourself from his hungry eyes, but he grabs that arm as well, pinning both hands to the seat.
“You keep your fucking hands glued to the seat unless they’re touching me, you understand?” He snaps. You mewl, eyes fluttering shut in the embarrassment of your state right now. But he doesn’t allow it, his hand reaching up to grip your jaw with a quick order to open your eyes. “Do you understand?”
You shift in your seat as you nod. “Yes, daddy.”
You squeal when you feel a wet substance landing on your chest, his spit. It’s humiliating. The absolute degradation of Lee Bodecker spitting on you like you mean little to nothing has you whining and mewling in shame, but he doesn’t care. He takes his hand away, which is now covered in spit and cum from your face, before smearing it all over your chest, big hands squeezing at your tits as you let out little noises of protest.
“Fuck, look at these,” He squeezes both tits in his hands as you squeeze your eyes in embarrassment, nails digging into the leather of the car seat beneath you. “Maybe I should fuck these instead, hm?” His fingers pinch at your nipples, pulling and rubbing as you squirm.
“Ah! Please!” You gasp, back arching up into him. You’re frustrated with the way this is actually making you wetter than before, even though you keep pleading for him to stop. “If I wasn’t so keen on fucking my kids into you, I would’ve kept fucking that mouth of yours until I came all over these tits. Make you lick it all up like a good girl.”
His words have your face heating up, chest heaving as you pant into the air. You’re shocked when he leans in and presses his lips to yours, humming at the taste of you and him. You don’t kiss back for a moment, but he tugs at your nipples as a warning and you gasp, allowing him to slip his tongue in. The kiss is filthy, nasty, and wet, and by the time he pulls away, you’re left panting and dizzy from lack of air.
You barely register how he manhandles you, making you sit back so your back is against the back of the seat. He lifts your left leg, tossing it over his thigh and pushing your other leg so your thighs are parted wide. You want to close them, but you know it’ll only get you in trouble.
“Pull your dress up, show daddy his pretty pussy.” God, you don’t know what’s gotten into you, but another wave of arousal hits you. His pretty pussy.
His pretty pussy.
You’re burning with shame as your shaky hand reaches between you, fisting at your dress before pulling it back, holding it to your stomach as you subconsciously widen your legs, flaunting everything you have to give. Your other hand is stuck to the seat, squeezing at the tired leather as your gaze flickers up to Lee, seeking approval.
He hums, a hand slipping up the inside of your thigh, squeezing the soft skin and watching you squirm. “Look at you, bunny,” He coos, fingertips nearing your wet center. You whine when his index finger ghosts over your folds before parting them to watch you pulse around nothing. “All this is for me, hm?” He raises a brow, looking over at you, the hand that’s still stuck in your hair tightening as he forces you to watch as he pets you in your most private area. A thick finger sinks into your weepy hole with a faint squelching noise. “Yes, daddy.” You sigh, eyes stuck watching his face as he focuses on what’s between your legs. Your eyes flutter shut for a few moments as you suppress the moans that want to slip, but Lee tuts in disapproval.
“Look,” He tilts your head down, muttering for you to open your eyes. “You’re making a mess all over my seats, bunny. You’re lucky I’m ready to fuck you or else I would’ve had you over my knee for being a bad girl.” You pant, whining in embarrassment at the sight of your arousal smeared between your thighs and dripping onto the seats below you.
“A-ah! Sorry…sorry daddy.” You manage to speak between breaths as Lee hums, his thumb joining to rub at your clit as he continues to work his finger in and out of you. “I’ll have to punish you another time.”
You can’t help it when you dive forward, chasing his lips in a sloppy kiss, a frown forming when he turns away. Suddenly he’s pulling away from you entirely, tears form in your eyes as you begin to think you’ve done something wrong, but Lee doesn’t do much to rest your spiraling mind.
He’s moving you around again, pushing you to lay on your back and splitting your thighs open before he kneels between them, a hand wrapped around the base of his cock as the other pinches at the skin of your thigh. You’re dazed and fucked out already, too tired to realize what’s going on before you feel him painting the tip of his cock up and down your slit. “W-wait!” Your hand shoots up to press at his tummy, legs trying to shut but failing due to his large body between them.
You’re scooting back against the car door, an arm reaching up to cover your chest as you whine. “T-This doesn’t feel right…” A prominent frown is etched across your lips as you attempt to shut your legs. Memories of your mother telling you to never let situations like this happen. You had thought Lee wouldn’t take it this far. Certainly, he wouldn’t go all the way, especially with his best friend's daughter.
The look in his eyes says otherwise, a whimper falling from your lips, “You can’t, please.” Your attempt at begging is weak, and it proves to be so when he grunts in annoyance, hands landing on your hips to pull you closer once again, legs splitting around his waist. “This isn’t right, you’re my dad’s best friend!”
You’re shocked when his hand wraps around your neck, squeezing enough to shut you up as he leans down, face to face with your tear-stained face. “You don’t know the difference between right and wrong. You’re just a dumb fuck bunny,” His words bring more tears to your eyes, fingers ripping at the tainted seats below you. “You were made to just lay there and take cock like a fucking whore.”
He rubs his prick through your folds again, laughing when your hips twitch from the feeling. “You’re gonna let me fuck you, you know why?”
You mewl, squirming beneath his grasp as he slaps his cock against your cunt. Heat rises up your neck and face at the wet sound of your arousal echoing in the car. “Because if you don’t, I’m gonna tell your dad.”
“N-” “Yes. I’m gonna tell him how his little princess is out at late hours fucking boys in parking lots. He’ll be so disappointed. Probably ship you off for a camp over the summer-” You sob as he describes your possible future. “No, please no!” You beg.
“Mm, eager now are we?” He hums. There’s no warning when you feel his thick head slip into your tight hole, one of your hands shooting up to grip at his wrist that's held up to your neck, manicured nails digging into his skin, sure to leave a mark. He wastes no time shoving his cock all the way into your tight channel, full and heavy balls pressed snug against your bum as a sound close to a scream wracks through your body.
“Oh, fuck,” Lee curses above you before leaning forward, smashing his lips against yours as you softly sob. The burn is intense, it’s uncomfortable, and if he hadn’t had your legs spread so wide, you’re sure you would’ve kneed him and tried to escape by now. Your lips are still as he kisses you, you’re body trying its best to accommodate his large size as he begins thrusting in and out of you.
“Ah! I-” You can hardly form words as the pain sears through your lower body. A sharp thrust has you squealing, hands frantic in search of something to hold, one hand shoots towards his stomach in an attempt to stop him. “I-...it hurts, daddy. It’s too much!” You plead, fresh tears rolling down your face when you squeeze your eyes shut. Your entire body is warm, your ears burning so much you swear you can hear the blood rushing through them.
His hand leaves your neck, tangling into your hair as he tells you to open your eyes. You open them, blinking through tears to gaze up at him. Lee has never seen a prettier sight, your lips swollen and wet, face damp and glistening with tears under the streetlights, Your eyes are glossed over as you blink up at him. You’re trembling, mumbling incoherent sentences as his pace slowly picks up.
He coos, petting your hair when you let out a strangled moan. The pain is slowly starting to subside the longer his cock pierces into you and you feel more than ashamed of yourself when you start to feel good. There’s a dull ache rising in your lower stomach as a result of his relentless pounding and it brews a slight pang of fear in your chest.
Each thrust pushes small little ‘ah’s from your mouth, the hand on his stomach fisting at his shirt. “I’m doing you a fucking favor getting you dumb for my cock. Gonna have you addicted, ruin you for anyone else.” He grunts, watching as you struggle to breathe beneath him, lips parted around moans and mewls, chest heaving in exasperation. He can hear you struggling to get a word out, your eyebrows pinched together as your thighs squeeze his hips.
“What’s that, sweet girl?”
The switch of his attitude is giving you whiplash, his pet names for you go from slut or whore to sweet ones like bunny and sweet girl. You whimper, cheeks burning in embarrassment from your next words. “More please.” You whisper. A small smirk tugs at Lee’s lips because knows he’s slowly pulling at your loose threads, tearing at your seams one by one. “More? You want more, bunny? You like daddy’s cock?”
A slur of yes’ leaves your mouth, “Mm. And to think you wanted me to stop. To think you even wanted to fuck that little friend of yours.” His eyes trail over you, groaning at the sight of your wet tits bouncing with his thrusts. “You were gonna let him between these pretty thighs,” You shake your head but he nods. “Yes, you were. We both know you were, you fucking slut.”
You open your mouth to disagree, but it’s cut short with a moan. “Were gonna let him cum in you and get you pregnant. Then what? You get stuck with him for the rest of your life.” Your moans are breathless and borderline cries as he keeps fucking you. A hand reaches up, gripping your jaw, and you whimper, tears filling your eyes. “That’s what you want? Wanna get stuck fucking his tiny prick for the rest of your life, hm?” “No! No, daddy…”
A tear slips down your face, not only from how good you feel but from the words he’s saying. You can’t imagine being stuck with Jacob for the rest of your life. Sure you liked him, but it was just a fling! It wasn’t anything serious yet, and you didn’t quite like the way he would openly flirt with girls right in front of you.
“Maybe I’ll let him get you pregnant. What would your parents say when their sweet innocent baby gets knocked up by the town's football captain?” You cry out at his words and his actions. “I’m sorry! I’m sorry please no, please, daddy.” You sob. At this point you’re not entirely sure what you're begging him for, the lines had blurred long ago.
Lee coos, thumb caressing your cheek, wiping away your tears. He leans forward, lips ghosting over yours as he speaks, “Shh shh shh, it’s okay baby. You belong to me now,” You subconsciously wrap your arms around his shoulders, trying your best hand at kissing him (which fails when you kiss the side of his mouth and he pettily laughs at you). “Gonna put a baby in you and claim you for myself, hm.” You shake your head, whining at the image of Lee getting you pregnant. He pushes himself to sit back up, your fingers getting lost in the short strands of hair at the back of his neck. “Yeah, let everyone know your mine when they see your tummy swell with my babies. Watch these tits of yours get round and full with milk, fuck.” The image drives him insane, his hands palming your breasts and squeezing hard enough to make you squeal. And the more he talks about it and the longer you dwell on it, the image doesn’t sound so bad.
The air around you is thick, your pretty moans mixed with his loud grunts and the repetitive lewd sloshing sound of your sex makes your eyes roll, that ache in your tummy becoming more and more prominent.
Suddenly his hand is in your hair, tightly pulling to force your neck at an angle to where your gaze is set downward. “Look at us,” You’re forced to watch where he’s pounding into you, thick cock wet and shiny with your arousal and your innocence as he repeatedly disappears within your cunt. “Don’t we look perfect, bunny? Like a fuckin’ masterpiece.”
Your tummy quivers, thighs shaking as you feel an overwhelming sensation in your gut. “Y-yes. Yes, daddy, s’so pretty.” Your words are chopped and slurred with each of his thrusts. He pulls your head back up and smiles at the sight of you, dazed and fucked out with a sliver of drool spilling from the corner of your mouth. “Oh, baby. Are you drooling for daddy’s cock? Fucked you dumb haven't I?” His thumb catches the spit, running over your bottom lip before dipping into your mouth, watching as your lips close around his thick digit.
“So pretty baby. Never gonna let you out of my sight again. Just for me, aren't you? Daddy’s special girl.”
You mewl at his praise, nodding your head as you continue to suckle at his thumb. You pant, opening your mouth to respond, “Yes, daddy. S’all for you.”
He nearly cums, the sight of you so far gone has his head spinning, but he isn’t done yet. He kisses you, hard and sloppily before digging his teeth into your bottom lip, hard enough to draw blood and make you loudly whine. When he parts for you, you gasp, squirming beneath his hold as he pistons in and out of you.
“D-daddy?” Lee doesn’t think he’ll ever get tired of hearing your sweet voice calling him that. “I-i…my tummy burns.” You’re frowning, toes curling in your shoes as an overwhelming fear settles over you.
Lee’s head tosses back, fingers digging into your hips as he fucks you onto his cock like you weighed nothing. “Let it go, baby, let it go.”
A few more thrusts and you’re trembling, latching onto Lee like your life depends on it. Above you, Lee grunts, jaw clenching at the feeling of your pussy tensing around him, soaking his dick so much he’s sure his seats are ruined by now but he doesn’t care. You’re mumbling little thank you’s as he continues to fuck into you.
“Fuck, I’m gonna cum in your little pussy and you’re gonna take it all,” You’re positive there will be bruises where his fingers are on your hips from how tight he’s holding onto you as you mewl. “M’gonna fill you up ‘til you give me pretty babies.”
You’re twitching from sensitivity when he finally cums, pushing himself all the way to the hilt as you cry out, legs closing around his sides. It seems like he’s cumming for hours, hands grinding your hips back and forth on him before he pulls out (and even then, a few more spurts of the sticky substances leaves his tip and paints your swollen cunt).
Lee hums, cursing under his breath when he looks down. “Look at that, baby.” He’s manhandling you again, fingers pulling your hair and forcing you to look down between your legs, grinning when you moan. “See how pretty you look with my cum?”
You watch with moony eyes as the white substance drips down your center, gasping when Lee runs his finger through the mess, pushing it back into your pussy. You sob as he curls his finger once before pulling away, raising the slick coated finger between the two of you before slipping it into your mouth, watching as you eagerly lap up all the cum on his finger.
“That’s enough, don’t get greedy.” He scolds, pulling away as you frown. “Sorry, daddy.” You whisper. Your eyes are stuck on his plump lips as he speaks, but you register none of it, only snapping out of your daze when he lightly slaps your cheek twice before gripping your jaw, watching as your lips pucker. “That’s the last time you’ll be seeing Jacob, right bunny?”
You nod, quickly murmuring a ‘yes, daddy’ before he smiles, pulling you forward to press your lips onto his, loving the way you melt against him, even if every alarm goes off in your head. The guilt is beginning to gnaw at you as you kiss him back, shame and terror of what you’ve just done slowly consuming you.
A final pang of doom echos in your chest when he pulls away and gazes at you, “Good. You’re mine now.”

That Fateful Day
Tumblr media
Summary: Everyone in town wonders why you won’t leave town now that you don’t have any reason to stay.
Warnings: ANGST ANGST ANGST - Canon character’s death
A/N: Divider by @firefly-graphics
Tumblr media
Everyone in Knockemstiff had expected you to leave town after it had happened. No one thought you’d stick around. “What does she have to live for in this dingy town?” You’d hear some of the old ladies whisper at the grocery store.
Of course, you didn’t place them for judging. You didn’t have anything left in this town. After all, you knew in your heart he’d want you to get the hell out of here as well. But there was one thing in this town that made you stay.
Tumblr media
The sun was shining bright today as you laid the flowers out upon the gravestone. It had been almost a year since that fateful day. You could still remember the argument the two of you had before it all happened. “I understand he killed Sandy, but what if he hurts you, Lee?” You shouted at him as he grabbed his rifle. The idea that Arvin Russell could hurt him seemed so ridiculous to him.
“We both know that ain’t happening.” He laughed at the idea. Oh, but it did happen. When you got the call that they found Lee’s body, it felt as if your entire world had collapsed. Why didn’t he listen to you?
So now you were laying flowers upon his grave like you did daily. Being here gave you a sense of peace you couldn’t find anywhere else in town. You knew the townspeople talked, and they gossiped about you. But the truth was, you couldn’t leave him.

here you are now, calling me up, but i don't know what to say; i've been picking up the pieces of the mess you made
lee looked at the ticket in his hand, inspecting it. it has been months since he picked up that ticket at the diner. the ink on it slowly fading the more he held it in his hands. he thought of what life could be with her. if he stayed, if he was selfish, he could be happy right now. he hears shuffling feet and he attempts to hide the one thing he has left of y/n.
-"you don't need to hide it lee," dot's voice sounds as she peeks through the door, lee sighs t her statement. he knew dot had been lurking, seeing him look at the faded ticket. he wanted to be happy with her, give her the life she deserves- but everytime he moves on a speck of y/n floods his brain. he can't help but compare them, how y/n's skin is softer, how her eyes sparkled more. lee couldn't bring himself to hurt dot too, he decided to leave y/n, to leave the restaurant with her looking like a dream with tears running down her face- tears he put there.
he left her, he shouldn't be feeling like this. he chose to leave- after weeks of mulling it over, lee decided to put an end to their relationship. albeit, he never gave y/n an explanation as to why or have her the real reason as to why. lee knew of y/n's ambitions, he knew she was more than this town, she could do better with her life than be here, than being with him. that was the final straw to his decision, on top of the silent whispers of her wasting her youth with an old fat guy like the sheriff. lee chose to leave her be, to live her life, to figure out who she wants to be, who she needed to be with. it was the most painful thing he ever had to do- but he did it in the name of love, for y/n.
dorothy's looming presence forces lee to speak up,
-"dotty, i think we need to talk" the strain in his voice surprised him and looking at her she knew.
-"i-" lee sighed continuing the need to end it, "i'm so sorry but i need to leave. i need to break this up. i am so sorry in promising you the life you needed and deserved." lee looked up at her, his eyes watering, he didn't mean to hurt this many people and as he looked up at dot, her understanding eyes looked at him.
-"lee bodecker, you are one of the nicest man in this planet, maybe the nicest man to exist in this rotten town- you taking a chance on me and my son is the best i could ever hope for. i hope you be happy with her, go after her lee- apologize and beg for her back." dot gave lee a bone crushing hug and wiped the tear running down his face. this hurt lee. the pain for leaving comfort to chase something that might blow up in his face. though for lee it was all worth it, he had to show y/n all the love he still had for her.
Tumblr media
the bustling city still surprised her, in the two months she's moved to new york everyday she saw something that she deemed odd. yet the city air was fresh to her, different from meade. the tall skyscrapers stand with the sky instead of broken down brick buildings. the way the sun felt against her skin was different too.
it surprised y/n to see other women studying in the same college as her, everyone acting nonchalant about it. two years was all she needed to be a nurse. she’d always loved helping her dad when he got into brawls or even lee when he’d sneak into her house with a cut open lip. lee, she had missed him but it seems to be too late to vocalize it now, he’s moved on and he’s also the one to break it off. though she never got the explanation from him, she thought it was better that way.
the basking thought of him would come up late at night when she realized how alone she was in the city. how she was singled out from her friends that she had made. her mind always wandered back to lee when she thought of home. she would have sacrificed everything to be with home right now but as fate would have it lee did not want her back. the hurt from the breakup keeps her going, lee would have cheered her on if they were still together, though she might not be where she is now if they were still together. she was unsure if lee would leave the power he had back in knockemstiff. maybe if they were still together she would be content in life, in a house somewhere in brewer heights. all the maybes got to her head and tears streamed down her face.
if only lee had explained why he wanted to break up- maybe if she had a reason and maybe if he hadn't moved on she would have stayed.
y/n wiped the tears off her face and focused on her task, needing to finish her assignment which had taken her all night to do. she had to wake up early tomorrow to apply for job, her savings running low.
Tumblr media
lee struggled when he arrived to new york, the fast paced walking and talking made him miss knockemstiff where nothing ever happened. the search for y/n was going to be tough and he knew it, a big city like new york and he hadn't got the faintest idea where she was staying or where she went to school. but lee was determined to search every corner of the city if it meant getting her back, or trying to at least. lee hadn't slept since he got to new york, sitting in the first diner he found at the corner booth on his third cup of coffee. the bell rung and something in him willed him to look up and as he did he saw her. the one he was looking for, she looked healthy, her eyes weren't as sunken in as the last time he saw her; she also looked grown, she had more confidence in her. she wasn't the innocent doe-eyed girl lee had met.
lee had taken the menu the waitress had left and hid his face, he was suddenly nervous for her to see him. would she think he was crazy? even perhaps shoo him away without him having a chance to give her an explanation? hearing her sweet voice for the first time in a while brought him back to the first time he ever heard it,
a sweet giggle lured lee back to consciousness, he had gone to church to campaign. married women were swarming him, fawning over him; yet he grew tired of this as soon as he heard her, his head turned to her and a white-like halo surrounded her figure. the dress she wore fitting her whole personality. lee had become addicted to someone he didn't know.
-"excuse me, i saw the ad on the newspaper and i was wonderin' if the waitress position is still open," she still had her accent, it was a slight drawl but it was still there.
if fates would have it, this was lee's chance to talk to her yet he seemed to be choked up on the what ifs.
Tumblr media
y/n enters the diner and asks the first lady she sees about the ad on the newspaper and as she was looking around she sees a familiar figure hiding behind a menu. a simple menu couldn't hide his broad shoulders, or his familiar hands. the same hands that was all over her body not long ago. those hands that she loved so much, the same hands that she thought wouldn't let her go and yet it did.
y/n felt ridiculous, maybe it was a man that wasn't lee. the ghost of him was everywhere, lingering and following her around. just as she thought she moved on, he still haunts her.
yet, as they lowered the menu those familiar cerulean blue eyes stared at her. as she made eye contact with him, y/n's heart stopped beating.
why would lee be here? is he real?
as if someone was puppeteering her, y/n made her way to his table,
-"what are you doing here?" her words laced with venom and hatred, though she didn't mean for it to come out that way.
lee stuttered, he took a deep breathe before answering her,
-"i followed you here," y/n didn't even let him finish his sentence.
-"well that's obvious, get to the part why you're here." she was more snappy than he was used to.
-"i saw your train ticket fall at the diner the last time we saw each other and i realized i was wrong. i was wrong for breaking it off and i was wrong-" then again she scoffed at this interrupting him.
-"lee bodecker, i had given you more than enough time to get me back but you turn to another woman. and what's worse is that you never gave me a reason why. do you know how many nights i stayed awake staring at myself trying to look for imperfections, trying to ask myself why you left me? because maybe if i learned why then i could change it and get you back." y/n's tears were running down her face, sitting opposing to lee, she saw how his face changed.
-"do you wanna know why i broke up with you? it was because of my own insecurity, because i know you could be better without me. because you can achieve so much without me holding you down. because you wanted to go to a big city and i wanted to stay in that small town, and y/n you deserve more than me and if i had told you all of that you would have assured me that it's not the case and we would be what? together but you would be unhappy because you have so much more to offer than be in that fucking shithole." y/n never knew the gravity of lee's insecurity, they have gone over it a couple of times. first when she heard a couple of guys, younger deputies sneering and poking fun of how lee looked. you had told him to ignore it because you loved him for who he is, part of what attracted you to him was because how soft he was, how he felt when he was on top of you.
-"all you had to do was stay lee, it would've been enough for me. even if i didn't get to chase my dreams, even if it meant me being stuck in a house. that would all mean staying with you lee." her voice was meek, her heart pouring out to lee. if she had known lee felt that way then against all odds she would have figured something out.
-"i know honey, but i couldn;t. i was holding you back and i'm here now. i realized that leaving you, not being with you; it's slowly destroying me. i tried distracting myself with work, playing house with dot but nothing worked. it's always been you and only you. so here i am, as a man asking for you back. i would get on my knees and beg for your forgiveness if that's what it meant." lee got up preparing to get on his knees and y/n opened her mouth to talk before he could.
-"would you leave knockemstiff for me? would you leave all that power you've collected, that cushy house in brewer height, all for me?" it was a question that has been gnawing her brain. if the answer was yes, no hesitation she was willing to give lee a chance.
and without hesitation, with pure love in his eyes,
-"anything for you sugar. i would fight anyone come hell or high water to keep you y/n."
y/n dragged lee to her apartment, their lips clashing filled with desire for what felt like eternity yet it wasn't enough. the electric feeling between them, buzzing and keeping both of them alive. their breathes synced, bodies intertwined.

Flowers in Storms
Tumblr media
A/N: Another entry for @the-slumberparty‘s Bingo, again mixing three squares: Friends with benefits, Trapped together, and Flowershop AU. Reader is female.
Warnings: Mentions of the death of a character. Storms and storm damage. Angst.
Tumblr media
The bell above your door jingles and you know who it is without even looking up. “Good afternoon, Sheriff. I’ve got your order right here.”
“How do you do that, Y/N?” Lee walks up to the counter, shaking his head. In the years he’s been visiting your flower shop he still hasn’t figured out your secret to knowing he’s the one walking through the door. He’s tried showing up on different days, at different times, in different weather patterns, and you still know it’s him. “One of these days you’ll have to tell me your secret.”
“Maybe someday,” you tease. “In the meantime, here’s your order. Make sure to give her my love while you’re out there.”
Lee nods his thanks and heads on out, pausing to turn back and ask, “are we still on for Tuesday night?”
“Yeah,” you smile. “Unless that storm we’re supposed to get gets worse. Then you’ll likely be on call.”
“Thank you, Darlin’” he tips his hat and heads out, flowers in hand.
Tumblr media
It’s been several years since Juanita, Lee’s wife and your best friend, passed on. You were both in a lot of pain at the loss and, after a year, ended up finding comfort in each other. Not a relationship, Lee couldn’t risk looking like he was moving on too quickly, lest he lose his next election. Friends with benefits and it worked for the two of you.
You both became workaholics when Juanita was buried, burying yourselves in your jobs. It wasn’t healthy and it came to a head when Lee came in to buy flowers on what would’ve been their anniversary. You had told him he needed to take better care of himself and he threw that right back at you. Soon after you both agreed to start meeting up, as friends, just to make sure you each took some time off work.
Your relationship grew from there but neither of you felt it was right to actually be dating. So you made arrangements, trysts, and other fun things but neither of you asked the other for more. Tuesday would be your next “not-a-date” and you were looking forward to it.
Tumblr media
Business was painfully slow Tuesday but that didn’t surprise you. That storm was building and people were prepping for the worst. Lee had called and told you he was on call for the night and you reassured him you’d be home by the time the really bad winds hit.
Unfortunately you weren’t paying as much attention to the windows as you probably should, too busy making sure that your flowers would survive the likely loss of power. The next time you looked out the window it was hailing pellets the size of golf balls and you decided it was safest to just stay in the shop. You’d been through a few twisters by now and knew how to handle yourself but you still found yourself shaking and nervous as you plotted out the safest spots in the store.
Your nerves got worse when the power cut out. The scream of the wind and the hail against the roof were the only sounds you could hear. You lit one of your emergency candles. It wasn’t much but there was something comforting about the little source of light and heat. You let yourself relax, watching that little flame, until some red and blue lights distracted you.
You heard the front door slam open followed by Lee shouting your name. You ran to the front of the shop and hugged him tight before yelling, “what the hell are you doing here, Lee?!”
“I could ask you the same thing, Y/N! You promised me you’d be home before this storm got rough. I tried callin' your home, which still has power by the way, and got no answer, so I ran out here hoping, praying you weren’t stuck in a ditch or worse!”
“I can look after myself and you shouldn’t worry about me like that,” you protest.
Before Lee could yell back you both heard a loud boom as lightning struck a nearby tree. You pulled Lee away from the front door and windows as the tree started falling. Much to both of your dismay it landed on your cars.
“Fuck,” he whispered. “That’s gonna be a lot of paperwork.”
“For both of us,” you agreed, grateful you were caught up on your insurance. “In the meantime, looks like we’re trapped together here. Come on back, it’s a bit safer there. You got your radio? Let the other officers know?”
“Yeah, yeah. You get on back and I’ll radio. But we’re not done talkin’ about you lyin’ to me!” Lee turns away and radios the station letting them know his car is done for, “happened while rescuing a citizen trapped in a store but now we’re both here. We’ll be alright but I’m out for most any calls.”
“Roger that, Sheriff” you hear as Lee walks to join you.
“Now,” he says as he crosses his arms and glares, “you wanna tell me what the hell you’re doin’ puttin’ yourself in danger like this?” You’ve noticed over the years how his accent gets stronger the angrier he is. It’s cute when it’s not directed at you.
“I genuinely lost track of time, Lee. I swear it was a legitimate accident. But you didn’t have to come out and save me. I’ve been through these things before and know how to take care of myself.”
“You’d be better at takin’ care o’ yourself if you were at home. Why’d ya even bother openin’ the damn store today? Coulda saved me a heap of trouble and a car!”
“That’s on you,” you countered. “I didn’t ask you to come get me, so you do not get to hold that over my head. And the store was closed most of the day but I had to be here to make sure I’d still have a store to come back to. I got caught up in the preparation and lost track of the time. You know that happens to me.”
“Why the hell couldn’t you just stay home where I…” Lee falters. “Where I’d know you were with your neighbors, lookin’ out for each other?”
“What were you about to say?” Lee shakes his head but you press him further. “You were gonna say something else just now. What was it?”
Lee lets out an exasperated sigh. He knows you well enough to know he’s not getting out of this one. His tone is quiet as he admits “I was going to say, ‘stay home where I could keep you safe.’ It’s…it’s what I say every time I visit Juanita. I just…I don’t want to lose someone else because I couldn’t be there.”
Not knowing what to say you opt to wrap Lee in as big a hug as you can. He gives you a gentle hug back and you stay like that for a long time. Long enough to notice the wind dying down and the pounding of the hail soften to the patter of just rain.
The hug finally breaks when Lee’s radio chimes in, specifically calling for him. He walks out the front to respond leaving you in the back room. All by yourself in the dark with just a candle. You take the time to clear your head and, by the time Lee walks back in, you’ve made your decision.
“Deputy is drivin’ out here to give us a lift,” Lee tells you. “We’ll drop you off at home and I’ll get back to work.”
“Sounds good, Sheriff.”
Lee freezes. You only call him Sheriff when there are other people around. “What’s goin' on, Y/N?”
“We should probably stop hooking up,” you admit, not meeting his eyes. “I know we agreed on no romance, dating or whatever but…this whole thing was supposed to be temporary anyways. A way to stave off the worst of the grief as we healed. But I don’t think it’s working. I’m the last person to tell you to move on but if you’re still blaming yourself, blaming her, for her death, you need something more than I can offer.”
Lee focuses his attention on the floor, even though it’s too dark to see anything. When he doesn’t respond you continue, “I’ll still happily be your friend, that sure as hell won’t change. But I’m not gonna keep up the rest. It’s been fun, don’t get me wrong, but I think it’s keeping us from healing like we should be.”
He continues to stare at the spot on the floor until you hear the deputy’s car horn. You walk out in silence and get in the back of the car while Lee and the Deputy discuss all the damage and ongoing situations. They drop you off in front of your home, Lee never once acknowledging you.
Tumblr media
Over the next week you and your neighbors set to picking up the pieces, helping each other out, finding missing pets and more. Happily there weren’t any fatalities. Lee was purposefully keeping his distance from you, sending other officers to areas he knew were helping. The rumor mill was buzzing, of course, but you made sure to not feed the fire.
When you finally got back to your shop the power had come back and you started salvaging what flowers you could. There were phone calls to suppliers and insurance companies to be made and you settled in for a long day on the phone.
The front door jingled around noon and, without looking up, you call out, “mornin’ Sheriff.”
Lee lets out an exasperated sigh, “one of these days, Y/N.”
You look at him and ask, “do you actually want to know or do you want to keep it a friendly mystery?”
“You know what, I do wanna know. How the hell do you always know it’s me?”
“You’re always wearing the cologne Juanita would buy for you. That stuff she had to order special from the catalogs. You would’ve run out of it by now but I’m guessing you keep buying it because it makes you think of her.”
He purses his lips and nods, “the smell makes me think of her. My complaints about the cost when she first bought it for me were tempered by her assurances it would help me stand out while campaigning. It just kinda became another thing we would laugh and kid about.”
Lee takes his hat off and walks towards you, “I do need to apologize for bein’ so short with you. I’ve had some time to think and, you’re right. I don’t know that I’ll ever heal from losin’ Juanita, but I need to try and I can’t do that if I’m treating you like I would her. If I keep seein’ her in your place. If I keep wishin’ it was her laying next to me instead of you.” The confession hurts but you take it in stride.
“I’d still love to have ya as a friend,” Lee looks at you sheepishly. “I ain’t been much of a friend but I’m hopeful you’ll let me work at being better at that.”
You give Lee a soft smile and walk towards him with open arms. He welcomes the embrace and you feel his shoulders relax. It takes a while but you finally break the hug, tears in your eyes but a smile on your face. You both needed this.
Tumblr media
It’s been a couple years since the storm but you and Lee are still good friends. So much so that he considers it his duty to keep an eye on your new suitor, a war veteran who came home missing an arm. When you asked Lee why he was stalking your date he looked offended, “I’m the Sheriff and your friend. I have to make sure this new guy isn’t takin’ advantage of our town’s sweet florist.”
You’re working on paperwork when you hear the front door bell jingle. Without looking up you say, “welcome to the Bouquet Boutique! Let me know if you need help with anything.”
“So that’s what you tell your customers,” Lee says with a smile on his face. His smile grows when he sees your look of confusion. “I’m tryin’ to go without the cologne for a while. See how that works.”
“I’m proud of you,” you say as you give him a big hug. “I’ve got your order right here, Lee. Make sure to give Juanita my love.”
“Will do, Darlin’. Will do.”

Lee regretting what he lost would be like...
Why did she have to look at him like that?
That was all Lee could think as he had to sit back and watch her dance with half the boys in the town. It wasn’t her fault, of course - she was young and single. These sorts of festivities were made to celebrate that, help women find a suitable match, and that was one more reason for Lee to hate them.
He wasn’t a suitable match. Even if he wasn’t married, he’d never be the type of man their small-minded society considered to be a good partner - maybe because he wasn’t. Lee was short-fused and drank a lot, she was better off without him. Even he knew that.
But that didn’t stop the longing, didn’t handle the pit in his stomach every time he noticed how happy she looked with someone else - anyone other than him.
She’d tried to warn him. She’d told him he’d regret it, ending their little affair - whatever it was. Just a couple of kisses in the back of his car at nighttime, that was all there was to it, and still, it hurt so much.
He didn’t expect it would feel this way. He missed her in his arms, her soft skin and soft lips acting like balm on his weathered scars.
If only he were another man - a braver man. A better man, someone who could provide for her, instead of making her cry. She told him that she loved him, and what did he do? Panic and ran away, like the coward that he was.
He didn’t deserve her anyway.

Lee parks his car, tipping his hat at the people that pass before he enters The Strawberry Shack, he had become a regular in this place, enjoying that there were women always at his service. Lee nods at the woman at the front desk, heading straight for a certain door and making his way inside. There you were, he had been itching to feel your lips wrapped around his cock again.
“Hiya, suga’. I’ve missed your lips so much, you miss my cock?” He stands in front of your hole, reaching down to unbuckle his belt and pull out his throbbing member.
“Of course I did, I missed feeling your cock heavy on my tongue, I missed sucking you off until you cum down my throat. I miss your taste.” Your sultry voice causes Lee’s cock to twitch, your words music to his ears. “Are you going to let me have a taste?” You moan, licking your lips as you watch him stroke his thick girthy member through the hole.
“Shit, suga’. Making me throb over here. You gonna be a good girl if I let you have a taste?” Lee groans, squeezing his tip before stroking his cock again.
You whine. “Only for you.” Lee slides his cock through the hole, and you immediately launch forward and wrap your lips around him, sucking on his tip before sliding down and choking on his cock. Your tongue swirls around, flicking underneath and tracing the prominent veins. Drool seeps from the sides of your mouth as you continue to choke and gag on him, your eyes rolling back.
“Fuck, suga’. Best fucking head I’ve ever received.” His hands rest on his hips, fucking your mouth through the hole. Lee keeps his back straightened even though the feel of your mouth on him makes him want to crumble. His nostrils flare as he holds back his groans, feeling pleasure ripple through him.
You moan around him, sucking him harder, your head bobs up and down. You can feel him twitch on your tongue, enjoying that you can bring a man so dominant down with just your mouth. You move up to his tip, paying special attention to it. Sucking and swirling your tongue around it before you flick underneath causing him to buck his hips, accidentally letting a grunt slip.
“Fucking hell, suga’. Keep that up and I’ll cum.” With a new thirst for his cum, you continue your movements but faster and harder, working like a whore to get his cream out. Lee’s eyes roll back, and he quickly rests his palms on the wall for support as you suck his cock like a vacuum. His cock begins to twitch like crazy, balls tightening before a large amount of cum spurts out of his tip, coating your gorgeous mouth.
You swallow, lapping up every bit of his cream before you gently pull off with a pop. You watch him pull out and tuck himself back into his pants, a smirk resting on your lips.
“Thanks, suga’. Make sure you’re ready for me tonight. Gonna need that sweet cunt.” And with that, Lee saunters off.

Tumblr media
It was chilly outside as you left your apartment, making sure you had everything with you as you walked briskly to your car. You were already late, so you were rushing to get to the station as soon as you could. Lee had been there earlier in the morning to pick you up for work, but when you were finishing getting ready, a sudden wave of nausea came over you and had you running to the bathroom with Lee following right behind. As you dry heaved over the toilet, nothing but bile coming up as your stomach had nothing else to give, Lee’s hand rubbed your back in an effort to comfort you.
He continued worrying over you even when you assured him you were fine.
“Lee, I promise, I’m okay. Probably just ate something bad, it’s nothing,” you said, shooing him off. “You’re gonna be late for work if you don’t go now. I’ll drive myself after I fix up a bit,”
“Darlin’-,” he went to argue, concern lacing his voice.
“Go,” you ordered. “I’ll be there before you know it.”
Leaning up on your tiptoes, you gave him a peck on the cheek. You moved to slip away and usher him out the door but he wrapped his arms around you before you could and squeezed you. You returned his hug as he looked down at you.
“You sure you’re okay, darlin’?”
“Promise, I’m okay.”
He sighed heavily before letting you go and opening the door. He turned and placed a kiss on your forehead.
“If you start feeling sick again, you call me, understand?”
“Yes, Sheriff, I understand,” you recited back to appease him. “I’ll be there before you know it,” you smiled as you urged him out.
“Why don’t I just stay until you’re done?” he tried to argue again. “No one's gonna say anything if I’m late, I’m the sheriff,”
“Lee,” you admonished, “Get outta here. You’re late enough as it is,”
“Fine,” he relented. “But if you’re not there within the hour I’m coming back over here,”
“Okay, deal,” you agreed. “I’ll see you soon.” He leaned down, brushing his lips against yours, kissing you softly.
“I love you,” he muttered against your lips.
“Love you, too,” you returned before you watched him walk to the cruiser as you leaned out the door.
“One hour!” he called out as he pulled open the driver’s side door, shooting an “I’m serious” look your way before he got in. You gave him a wave as you smiled while he finally drove off.
—--------------------------
Funnily enough, it’d been well over an hour since Lee had left and you were pretty surprised he hadn’t so much as called. You didn’t think anything of it, though. He was probably out on a call.
When you pulled into the station, your eyes scanned the rows of cars while you looked for a spot, Lee’s cruiser nowhere to be seen. You found an open spot and parked, hustling inside to get to your desk.
“There you are! I was starting to get worried. Lee said you were sick this morning but you’d be here soon. And then soon turned into an hour and then an hour into an hour and a half,” Beth worried. “Are you okay?”
“I’m fine, he was worrying over nothing, just a queasy stomach,” you assured her. “Speaking of Lee, is he out?”
“Yeah, he went on a call a little while ago. I think he left you a note on your desk, actually.”
You looked in the direction of Lee’s office, with a hint of a smile.
“If you need anything, hon, just let me know,”
“Thank you, Beth, I appreciate it, but really, I’m completely fine,” you waved off her worry with a sweet smile as you made your way to your desk.
Putting your bag down and pulling your chair out, you picked up the note Lee had left and read it as you took your seat.
Had to go out on a call, but I’ll be back before you know it.
Love you, sugar.
- Lee
You couldn’t help but smile at the note, setting it back down and sliding it to the top of your desk as you grabbed the stack of files that had accumulated while you were gone to start getting through the paperwork and filing.
—-----------------------------------------------------------------
It had been an hour and Lee still wasn’t back. You didn’t want to start worrying over nothing, but he always called when he knew he’d be longer than normal.. As you were anxiously waiting at your desk for something to happen - be it the phone ringing or Lee finally waltzing in to calm your racing mind and settle your worried thoughts, you noticed Beth going into the break room. Deciding you needed a distraction you got up and followed her.
“Hey,” you greeted as you took a seat at the table, watching Beth as she made herself a cup of tea.
“Hey, you alright, darlin’?” she asked, immediately concerned.
“Yeah,” you nodded, “yeah…So, how long do you think Lee’s been gone now?” you asked, trying to sound nonchalant as you sat one leg crossed over the other, your foot swaying anxiously as if it had a mind of its own - betraying your air of calm.
“Oh, uhm…I’m not sure. He’d left maybe thirty five minutes before you got here?”
Your brows raised ever so slightly as you realized it was coming up on two hours that he’d been gone with no word from him. There was a small pit in your stomach beginning to form, but you knew you needed to not freak out. Maybe he was just caught up in something. You were sure it wasn’t a big deal. It couldn’t be.You would’ve heard something by now..
“He hasn’t called or anything, has he?” you asked.
“No, why? Something wrong, hon?”
You shook your head, taking a breath. “No, I’m sure it’s fine.”
“You sure you’re okay, you look a little sick,” she said worriedly, making her way over to the table to take a seat.
“Oh, yeah. I’ve just been having these little bouts of sickness lately. Just out of nowhere, I don’t know why. I thought it might have been something I ate the other day but..I don’t know,”
“Bouts of sickness? Like, what? What do you mean?”
“I don’t know, just like, nausea and sometimes I actually get sick, like run to the toilet or find a trash can, sick. Maybe it’s stress? There’s not really any other symptoms of a bug or anything,”
“How long have you been feeling like that?”
“Just started this past weekend,”
“And you’re sure there’s nothing else goin’ on? No… sensitivity to smells? Or feeling more tired than normal, soreness anywhere?” she prompted.
You thought back on this past week and were worried all over, you had all of those symptoms.
“Now that I think about it, yeah, actually…” you said, suddenly getting lost in your thoughts as pieces moved into place. There was no way…
“I don’t mean to pry, really, but, have you and Lee been..ya know, intimate with one another?” she asked, voice hushed to make sure no one else heard despite you two being the only ones in the room.
Your face dropped as you gathered what she was getting at, why hadn’t you considered it a possibility earlier?
“You don’t think…” you trailed off, shaking your head at the absurdity. Although, it really wasn’t all that absurd. It was the most reasonable explanation you had heard all week.
“Sounds to me like you just might be pregnant, sweetie,” she said softly, a small smile playing on her lips, but not breaking out completely as she wanted to gauge your reaction to the suggestion before she showed her own.
You didn’t have a chance to respond as the phone at your desk began ringing. You shot up, heart racing.
“Oh, that must be Lee,” you said before you rushed to get it.
You had to take a breath before answering the phone, needing to compose yourself in case it was someone else calling to speak with him.
“Sheriff's office, how can I help you today?” you recited as smoothly as you could as Beth came up to the desk to make sure everything was okay.
“Hello, ma’am. This is Debbie Ann down here at the hospital,”
Hospital? You froze. A sinking feeling was suddenly heavy in your chest as you waited for her to continue, not so much as making a sound during the time you were waiting. It couldn’t have been longer than a few seconds, but each one felt like an eternity.
“We have Sheriff Bodecker down here. Looks like he was just brought in a bit ago. I’m told he has a gunshot wound…”
There was like a static, a buzzing in your ear as you dissociated for a split second while she spoke. You didn’t hear anything she said after ‘gunshot’. Staring off at nothing, your mouth parting just slightly.
“Ma’am? Hello, are you still there?” the woman on the other end asked as you came back to yourself.
“What?” you faltered out of breath.
“We’ve tried calling the old contacts we had on file, but no one answered. The only working number listed is the station,” she explained as you were reeling. You were trying to catch your breath, blinking wildly as you tried to get a grip, hands floundering on your desk for your keys.
“O- okay, I’ll uh - I’ll be right there, I’m coming right now. I’ll be there right away,” you rushed out, fighting the tightness in your throat as you spoke. You nearly slammed the receiver down as you grabbed your purse and coat, not thinking of anything other than getting to him as soon as possible.
“Wow, wow, wow,” Beth rushed to slow you down. “Sweetheart, what happened? Where are you goin’?”
You stopped as she grabbed your hand and turned to her, tears welling in your eyes.
“I have to get to the hospital,” you stammered.
“Why? What happened, what’s wrong?”
“Lee’s been shot,”
“Oh my god,” she gasped, her hand flying to her chest in shock. “Okay,” she agreed quickly. “We’ll go, but you’re not driving. I’m gonna get Sam, he’ll take us. It’s okay, it’s gonna be okay,” she assured you before rushing to get Sam from his desk.
They made their way to you quickly, Sam looking as concerned as his fiance.
“Peters,” he called, “radio Franklin and Sanderson, I’m pretty sure they’re the ones who called the Sheriff out earlier. See if you can get a hold of them. I’ll call from the hospital when I get there.”
Beth was already walking with you to their car, her hand holding yours was a comfort as she ushered you into the backseat, Sam trailing right behind you guys.
—-------------
“You okay?” Sam asked gently as he glanced at you from the rearview mirror. “I’m sure he’s fine,” he tried to ease your worries but his words did little to help.
The hospital wasn’t too far from the station, and Sam was speeding down the near empty road, getting you there in record time.
The second the car stopped moving, you rushed out and headed straight for the entrance without a thought; Beth and Sam right behind you.
You made a beeline for the reception desk as you entered, your sense of composure and any manners out the window..
“We’re looking for Sheriff Bodecker,” you nearly panted, voice shaking. You weren’t sure if you were out of breath from your brisk walking or from the anxiety that was strangling you.
“The Sheriff, yes. He’s being attended to right now. Are you his wife?” the older woman asked, looking at you clearly concerned by your panicked state.
You shook your head dumbly.
“Family?”
“He doesn’t-” your voice threatened to break as you spoke, shaking your head again as you felt the tears welling, “he doesn’t have any family,” you heard the edge in your voice, but you couldn’t help your response. The stress was taking over you and you were overwhelmed by everything that had happened in the last fifteen minutes. You didn’t mean to come off as frustrated as you did, but you were still irritated by the needless questions.
The woman looked at you sympathetically, nodding in understanding as you felt Beth beside you take your hand in hers reassuringly. Turning you to her, she grabbed you gently and led you to sit in one of the hard chairs of the waiting area while Sam took over the conversation with the woman at the desk.
“Just sit back, honey. We’ll figure this out, you just breathe, it’s gonna be okay,” she soothed, running her lithe hand up and down your back comfortingly. Sam turned and gestured for Beth to come over to the desk and she did just that. You watch them anxiously, looking for any sign that something was truly wrong, that the worst case scenario had happened, but they kept their backs to you as they spoke.
Not too long later, Beth came back over.
“He’s getting looked after right now. Can’t have any visitors until they finish doing what they need to do, but we can stay here and they’ll keep us updated. But he’s okay, sweetie, he’s alive and breathin’,” she breathed a smile as you nodded frantically, a bit of ease washing over you for a second before you found yourself beginning to cry unabashedly at the relief.
She hugged you tightly as you cried. “He’s okay, he’s gonna be okay,” she repeated softly.
You calmed down as you pulled away, wiping at your bleary eyes, grateful for the lack of other people in the waiting area - no further witnesses to your emotional display.
“He’s okay,” you echoed aloud, nodding, almost as if you were reassuring yourself of that fact while you wiped your tears, taking steadying breaths.
“I’m really sorry, ladies, I have to get back to the station, fill everyone in and see if Franklin or Sanderson has called in yet,”
“What- what happened, Sam? How did he get here?” you asked.
“I’m not too sure yet, but I promise I’m going to find out. She said two officers brought him in and he was unconscious. They told her to call the station and that they were goin’ back on pursuit. I’m hopin’ someone at the station’s heard from ‘em and we’ll figure it out,” he said confidently before turning his eyes fully on Beth, “You call me if you need me before I get back.”
“I will,” she nodded, getting up to give him a quick kiss before he left.
Your head was in your hands as you continued trying to collect yourself, taking deep breaths as you felt your stomach turning again - you knew what that feeling meant. You shot up and scurried right for the bathroom, getting into a stall just in time.
Beth followed you in after a moment, right as you were flushing the toilet before heading to the sink.
You could feel her looking you up and down, attempting to assess you discreetly.
“I’m fine,” you huffed as you looked at her in the mirror.
She bit her lip as she continued looking at you.
“Beth,” you rebuffed, turning to look at her standing beside you.
She looked around the bathroom, just making sure it was really empty before she spoke.
“I’m not trying to upset you anymore than you already are,” she broached carefully, “but maybe, you know, while we’re here you should get a test done. Just to find out, one way or the other,” she suggested, her support and care for you clear in her eyes.
You could feel your lips in a thoughtful pout as your eyebrows worried. “Do you..you think I really might be pregnant?” You knew the answer, but you asked anyway. Beth’s hand came up to rest on your shoulder reassuringly.
“Oh, sweetie,” she spoke softly.
“Oh, god,” you breathed, placing your hand over hers. “Okay,” you nodded. “Yeah, okay.”
You both walk out of the bathroom and go back to the desk to check in to be seen. It was desolate so you didn’t think it’d take long for you to get in. You filled out the standard paperwork and then waited for either your name or Lee’s to be called.
And just as you’d hoped, it wasn’t too long before your name was being called and a nurse took you to a small room not too far beyond the front desk.
The room you were led to smelled sterile, like a doctor’s office, and just like the rest of the building. Your palms were sweating and you felt queasy again.
Question after question was asked, what symptoms you were having, your last sexual encounter, your last cycle, etc., etc.. You don’t know what you were expecting but you just wanted to get the test done and go back out there to wait for any updates on Lee.
“Alright, we just need a urine sample from you and then the technician will get your test. Results won’t be ready for at least two hours,” the nurse recited with little emotion, as if she was speaking off a script.
All you could do was nod as she handed you the cup and riddled off the basic instructions for you to follow.
—---------
You left the room feeling unsure of everything. What would you do if the results came back positive? What would Lee say? What would everyone around town say? You’d be seen as the unwed harlot who got knocked up by the sheriff, your boss, you could hear the church goers gossip now.
You sat quietly by Beth as you continued waiting for any news after being reassured by her that nothing happened while you were being seen.
An hour passed as you and Beth mindlessly flipping through the magazines that had littered the entryway table along the wall.
“Why haven’t we heard anything yet?” you groused.
“Don’t worry yourself, hun,” Beth lightly admonished. “You’re gonna make yourself sick.”
You sighed, knowing she was right.
“I just wanna see him. Make sure he’s okay,”
“I know, believe me, I do. But they’ll let us know as soon as he’s ready for visitors. You know, we should probably get some food in you,” she pointed out.
“We can’t leave,” you responded, sounding frazzled, as if she was insane for even suggesting it.
“We won’t, we can just grab something in the cafeteria. I’ll tell ‘em where we’re going in case they call us,” she said, leaving no room for argument as she went to the desk to let the ladies know where you’d be.
You followed her to the cafeteria which was just as empty as the waiting area with the exception of the few staff who were scattered around the food hall eating their lunches and mid shift snacks.
Beth got food for the both of you as you sat at the table nearest the door, in case anyone came in looking for you.
You thanked her as she sat across from you, handing you a tray of food. You eyed the sandwich on the tray warily, not sure you were up to eating.
“I know you don’t have the results just yet, but in case you are,” her eyebrows raised as she eyed you knowingly, “you gotta at least try to get something down. You haven’t eaten all day, you need to.”
You looked at her, nodding, “I know, you’re right.”
You reached for her hand across the table and squeezed it meaningfully. “Thank you,” you said in a near whisper, “for everything. You’re a really great friend, Beth,” you smiled tightly with tears in your eyes.
“I’m always here for you, you know that,” she smiled back, returning the squeeze to your hand before you went to your lunches.
You munched a carrot, watching as Beth took a bite of her sandwich. You needed confirmation it was edible before you would try it.
She looked up to meet your eye, chuckling at your raised brow and skeptical look. “It’s not bad, I swear,” she said after swallowing her bite.
“If I get sick again, I’m blaming you,” you laughed lightly.
Just as you were going to grab the sandwich, your name being called had your head shooting up, meeting the eye of the same nurse you’d been seen by earlier. You swallowed hard, you knew what this had to be.
“Could you follow me, ma’am,” she prompted. You stood and looked to Beth, sharing a nod before following behind the woman.
You only found your voice once you were in the hallway, “You have my results?” you asked trepidatiously.
“Oh, no. They should be ready soon, though,” she said without looking back at you as she continued leading you down the hallway. She must have sensed your confusion as she stopped a few feet from a closed door.
“Sheriff Bodecker asked to see you,” she supplied as she gestured to the door behind her.
Your eyes widened, as you hurried past her to the door, why the hell didn’t she say that sooner?
“Be careful with him,” she bid as you took a second to open the door gently, trying to calm down from all the emotions swirling around inside you.
You pushed open the door and peaked in. The second you saw Lee’s bright blue eyes looking over, you felt your heart squeeze and you nearly ran to his bedside, eyes filled to the brim with tears on the brink of falling.
“Hi darlin’,” he said, a lopsided grin on his pretty lips as he immediately stretched his right arm out for you to hug him.
“I was so worried,” you blubbered as you held onto him, trying to be careful with him before you pulled away to look him over. His left bicep was bandaged and you looked back to his face, worry etched all over your own once again.
“What happened?”
He released a heavy sigh, taking your hand in his and urging you to sit on the bed with him. Your full attention was on him as he ran his thumb on your hand soothingly.
“Goddamn Gates,” he cursed. “Son of a bitch was drunk and beating on Judy again. Franklin and Sanderson couldn’t get him to open the door and called me down there, sayin’ Gates would only speak to me. I got there and he opened up, I went inside to talk to ‘em, make sure Judy was alright and he was rantin’ and ravin’ about how he hadn’t touched a drink all week, all the while reekin’ the stuff. Judy said she was done, had enough of him finally and wanted him out. Then, I don’t know where he got it from, but all of a sudden he was waving a gun around, yellin’ about how he wasn’t goin’ to jail.
I turned to tell Judy to go outside and the fucker shot me. Tried to hit me in my chest but he’s a shit shot even when he’s not drunk off his ass,” he turned to show you his left arm, “bullet went straight through, they said it didn’t hit anything, so it just needs to heal up and I’m fine.”
“God, Lee,” you exhaled, your distress clear in your voice.
“They said you were unconscious when you got here?” you brought up, needing to know the full story.
“I wasn’t unconscious,” he denied, lip twitching up at the corner. “I was pretty out of it, though,” he admitted.
“He’d shoved past me to the back door when he heard the front door open and I was too focused on my arm to stop myself from falling. Hit my head on the corner of their table pretty hard,” he grimaced. “Have a concussion, but-”
“Oh my god,” you interjected as you got closer to him, gently running your hand through his cropped hair.
“I’m fine,” he finished, taking your hand in his. The look in his eye as he stared at you had your heart skipping a beat. Gleaming with adoration and love. Not a bit of worry for himself, his full focus on you.
“If anything had happened to you,” you breathed, not even wanting to think about how much worse today could have gone, “I-”
You couldn’t even finish talking as he pulled you into him, holding you as best he could with just his right arm.
Pulling away after a moment, you looked in his eyes, hoping yours got across all the feelings you didn’t have the words to properly express before you leaned back into him and kissed him more tenderly than you ever had before.
“I love you, Lee Bodecker,” you whispered against his lips. “More than you’ll ever know.”
“Sweetheart,” he whispered in return. “I don’t think I ever really knew what love was before I met you.”
You smiled as your foreheads pressed together, noses touching lightly. Lee pulled back from you then and the glimmer in his eyes had you wanting to do nothing more than wrap him in your arms and lay with his head resting on your chest, the kind of peace, comfort, and love you’d always dreamed of, the kind you’d found with him, were the only feelings you wanted to focus on. He caressed your cheek gently before looking down and taking your hand in his once more.
There was something building in the air, an anticipation. You didn’t know where the feeling came from but it had you on the edge of your seat.
Looking back up from your hand in his, Lee’s eyes met yours.
“I wasn’t plannin’ on asking you like this, but if today’s reminded me of anything, it’s that life is short,” he said sincerely while you stared at him, eyes rounded as you forced yourself to take a deep breath. “Gates’ aim had been better, I might not be here with you right now. I might not have ever gotten the chance to tell you just how stupidly in love I am with you,” he smiled. “How your laugh is the most beautiful sound I’ve ever heard. How lookin’ in your eyes makes me feel like there’s hundreds of butterflies flying around in my stomach, how you make me feel like I’m walking on air when you look at me. And how thankful I am to have met you, how lucky I am you let me love you, and have given me the honor of bein’ yours for as long as you have now,”
You could feel your eyes watering for what must have been the tenth time that day as you waited for him to ask what you thought he was going to, squeezing his hand encouraging him to go on.
“Darlin’, you’re my whole world. And I can’t go another minute without you knowing just how serious I am about you, just how much I want, need you in my life. And however long I’m here on this earth for, whether it’s another month or thirty years, I want it to be with you… I want it all with you, everything.
I want you to move in with me, I want you to take my name, and I want to start a family with you, I-...”
A family. You almost lost it when he said those words, but you held it together another second…Then you heard your name leaving his lips and the tears began to slide gently down your cheeks.
“Will you marry me?” he asked softly.
Your heart about burst at the question as your lip wobbled, holding his hand tighter than you had before, making sure this was really happening and you weren’t just dreaming it. As you opened your mouth to answer him, the door opened with no notice and startled you as you shot your head over to see who was interrupting the intimate moment. It was the same nurse from earlier, but this time she had a chart with her, holding the file in her arm.
“This can’t wait?” Lee asked gruffly.
“I’m sorry to interrupt Sheriff, but I’m not here for you,” she turned her gaze to you then, “We have your test results, hon.” Your eyes went wide and your stomach felt queasy all over again at the sudden reality, anxiousness coursing through you. The idea of a family with Lee wasn’t just a nice idea to look forward to in a few years. The possibility was very real right here and now. You knew it’d be okay, whatever the results were, but still. Why was there so much going on today, you could hardly keep up physically let alone emotionally.
“Test results?” Lee questioned, you could hear the worry in his voice and as you turned to look back at him, you saw the concern on his face as he looked between you and the nurse. “What test?”
“Just,” you took his face in your hands gently, “just one second,” you assured him without answering his question, kissing him softly before following the nurse to just outside the door.
“Well, I’ll get right to it, it looks like what we suspected. Test came back positive, you’re pregnant,” she said, offering you a smile.
You knew that was coming, you knew it. But it still hit you like a ton of bricks. You felt like you were in shock, but you weren’t really shocked at all. You smiled back, before nodding.
“Oh,” you exhaled with a breathy laugh, “okay. Thank you,” you said as she walked back down the hall, leaving you to digest the news. You stood there for a moment until Lee calling your name prompted you to go back in the room, worried he’d get up and come check on you if you didn’t.
“Sweetheart, what’s wrong?” he asked gently as he pulled you back to near his bedside the second you got close enough to touch.
You worried your lip before meeting his eye. That look was there again, it always was. His bright blue eyes shining with nothing but concern for you. Filled with his need to comfort you, protect you, love you. You couldn’t help your eyes watering or the smile that broke out across your face as you admired him, taking a breath before you spoke.
“How would you feel…” you started, trying to not let your tears overtake you just yet, “about starting that family a little sooner rather than later?” you questioned shyly, eyes set on your hand in his while trying to hold the tears back a little longer.
“What are you talkin’ about, sugar?”
You looked up, meeting his eye and taking a deeper, more grounding breath before speaking again.
“I’m pregnant,” you announced, exhaling shakily. His eyes widened after a second while he took in what you’d just said,
“You’re pregnant?” he repeated, the corner of his lips quirking up. You nodded in response. He breathed a laugh in disbelief and you swore the smile that shone on his face was the most beautiful sight you’d ever seen.
You laughed in return, a relief and calm washing over you as you let your tears fall and watched as Lee’s own eyes watered at the news. He grabbed you, trying to pull you onto the bed with him. “You’re pregnant!” he beamed.
“Lee!” you laughed, “Be careful, you’re still hurt,” you objected.
“I’ve never been better in my life, darlin’,” he grinned, tugging you still.
You relented and gingerly laid down next to him, his right arm wrapping around your waist, palm resting carefully on your belly while you nuzzled into him. Turning your face up to look at him, Lee was already staring at you. You leaned up to meet his lips, indulging in a sweet kiss that was full of your love for one another, growing deeper the longer you held the kiss before you parted.
“You haven’t answered my question, sweetheart,” he simpered, eyeing you adoringly.
“Right,” you agreed, the proposal he’d just finished before the nurse walked in fresh in your mind. “What was it that you asked me again?” you feigned innocence, both of you smiling knowingly. There were stars in your eyes as you looked at him, elation filling you as he gazed back with a look akin to your own.
“I’ve never been happier than when I’m with you, there’s nothing I want more than to marry you and start this family with you,” he said, rubbing your tummy as he spoke. “Will you marry me?”
You nodded, smiling up at him. “Yes,” you breathed a laugh. “Of course I will, I’ll marry you.”
Reaching up to kiss him again, you held his cheek in your hand.
“You’re gonna be my husband,” you grinned.
Lee laughed and kissed you once more. “Damn right, I am.”
“Okay, as much as I wanna lay with you, one of us is gonna end up falling off this bed,” you joked, moving to sit up. He let you sit up without an argument, only sighing in disappointment at the loss of you laying next to him. He took your left hand in his as he held it, his touch featherlight as his thumb rubbed along your ring finger.
“We’ll go down to the jeweler’s tomorrow,” he told you. “Gonna get you a ring, whichever one you want,” he smiled at you. You gave a tight lipped smile in return as you suddenly began worrying about what people would say. He knew the second you started to worry, gripping your hand more firmly, but his hold was still gentle, just enough to get your head back to the present. You looked at him, taking a breath.
“What are people gonna say? When they find out I’m pregnant before we’ve gotten married?” you asked, letting him know what you were worrying about.
“Sweetheart, it doesn’t matter what they think or what they have to say. You don’t need to worry about a thing. It ain’t nobody's business anyway,”
“Might not be their business but that isn’t gonna stop them from talking. I remember all those awful things they said about Susan not two years ago. Nearly ran her right out of town, all the whispers and judgy looks she’d get whenever she went anywhere without Bill,” you said, shaking your head at the memory. Those church women were especially cruel to her. You didn’t want to be the next talk of the town. You and Lee both were already on thin ice with the lot of them for your so called “work affair”.
“Darlin’, if anyone has anything bad to say about you, they’ll be dealin’ with me. No one’s gonna make my girl - my wife, the mother of my child, feel bad for any reason. I’ll make damn sure of it,” he promised you.
You rolled your eyes playfully at his instance no one would talk about you, but his words were comforting nonetheless. He was right, it didn’t matter what anyone else thought. You were happy and in love and you wouldn’t change a single thing, pregnant out of wedlock or not. And the way you lit up hearing him call you his wife, and the mother of his child had you giddy all over.
“Only reason those ladies would talk about you is because they’re jealous anyway,” he added, making you laugh again. “I mean it, sugar. You’ll be the talk of the town for all the right reasons. You’re already like a damn starlet walking around gracing all of us small town folk with your beauty,” he smiled, kissing your cheek as you rolled your eyes again at his ridiculous compliments. Ridiculous to you, at least. Because Lee meant every word he said.
“You’re gonna make the most beautiful bride and the prettiest mama this town has ever seen. I can’t wait to watch you get heavy with our baby. Can’t wait to watch you walk down the aisle, straight to me,” he simpered. You smiled demurely. Kissing him softly once more.
“We’ve got a lot of plannin’ to do,” Lee pointed out.
“You’ve got a lot of healin’ to do, Sheriff. We’ll figure everything else out in due time,”
Lee smirked, eyeing you like he wanted to argue that he was fine, but decided against it.
“Well, the doc said I could go home soon, and seein’ as I’ll be taking tomorrow off, we’ll have plenty of time to get your ring at least.”
“Lee,”
“Don’t try and argue, sweetheart. I want everyone to see a ring on your finger as soon as possible, let ‘em all know you’re mine, no question about it.”
“As if you haven’t made that obvious already,” you said, raising a brow at him.
“Reminders never hurt. Besides, a girl like you deserves to have a diamond on that finger. Show it off to all those Betties who like to gossip, give ‘em something to talk about,” he smiled.
“Give it another month, they’ll have plenty to talk about, I’m sure,” you said with a dry laugh, looking down at your stomach.
Lee considered you for a moment before talking.
“Move in with me,” he said.
You looked at him quizzically.
“Well, duh,” you smiled.
“This weekend. I’ll hire movers, we’ll get you settled by Sunday,” he said, almost begging, wanting to get ahead of the refusal he was sure you’d have at trying to move so soon knowing he was still healing.
Your eyes softened as you looked at him, “Okay,” you agreed, earning a grin from him in return as he nodded and visibly relaxed.
“The guest room is already clean, it’ll be easy enough to turn it into a nursery,” he added. You smiled at his happiness, the emotion evident on his face. And your heart soared at the way he was so ready for this, as if he’d been waiting for everything to fall into place, waiting for this to start with you. He was already planning everything out in his head, you could practically see the wheels working as he thought.
“You’re gonna be an amazing dad, you know that?” you breathed.
He smiled softly at you, looking like his mind was far off for just a second before he came back to himself. “You’re gonna be an amazing mom,” he responded. “We’re gonna do this together, we’re gonna do our best, do everything we can for this little one,”
“And for each other,” you added, wanting to remind him you’d always be there for him, too. You were a family now, undeniably. It was like everything had changed in your lives in a matter of hours, but the one thing that would stay the same was your love for one another. Trials and unforeseen changes, be they good or bad, only solidified that knowing you had deep down. You were it for each other. And your love only grew stronger with each day.
He nodded, still smiling as he gently let go of your hand, moving to rest his palm on your belly again, you put your hand over his and when you looked at him again, his eyes were shining as tears filled his eyes.
“Seems crazy to say, considerin’ I was shot and concussed and all, but I think this is the best damn day of my life,” he laughed breathily as a few tears fell. You were quick to wipe them from his cheeks as you took his face in your hands delicately, laughing softly in turn, your thumb gently brushing his cheek as you leaned your head to his.
“Whole lot to process,” you mused. “But you’re here. And you’re okay. And we’re having a baby,” you repeated, your smile growing wider.
“And you’re gonna make me your wife,” you nearly whispered as your lips brushed his. “I could see how it’s one of the best when you look at it like that.”
Lee simpered as he leaned into you before closing the distance between your lips and kissing you tenderly.
“But you have to promise me something, Lee,” you urged, making sure he was looking in your eyes, wanting him to see how serious you were. “Your main focus right now is on healing. I don’t want you rushing anything, alright? I just need you to get better, I need you to be okay. And I know you’re gonna say you’re fine, but I mean it, Lee,”
“I promise,” he swore, his hand holding yours, keeping your touch to his cheek before he pulled it to his lips, kissing your knuckles softly. “You have my word.”
You schooled your face, not wanting to let on your surprise at his lack of pushback. “Good,” you said satisfied, pulling your hands back to rest in between your bodies, but not letting go of each other.
“Now, you have to promise me something,” he said.
You eyed him, waiting for him to continue.
“You have to promise you won’t get mad.”
“Why would I get mad?” You asked. He took a beat before speaking matter of factly.
“You’re fired.” You blinked at him, confused for just a second before his words registered.
“Excuse me?” you said incredulously.
“You’re carrying my baby in there, no way I’m gonna have you working. No need for it,” he answered as if it was obvious.
“No need for it?” you scoffed. “I’ll tell you one thing for sure, Mr. Bodecker. You’d be completely lost without me. In fact, this is a perfect example of why you need me at the station. Had I been there when they tried to call you in, I would’ve told those two bozos to figure it out themselves. Too damn lazy to do their job is what it was. You never should’ve been down there to begin with. They’re officers, for Christ’s sake! They could’ve easily gotten him to open up, they just didn’t want to deal with it. And where were they when you were inside, huh? Not talking to Judy, were they. Probably guzzling their coffee, leaning along their cruiser while they talked about baseball or whatever the hell else it is they talk about, meanwhile you’re getting shot at by some wife beatin’ drunk all because they can’t be bothered to do their damn jobs. Left you all alone in there with no one to watch your back, that’s reckless and dangerous and they’re so damned lucky you’re alright, because I swear, had anything worse happened to you, Lee -,” you ranted, not realizing how truly angry you had been beneath the fear and worry you felt for Lee.
“Alright, alright, I hear you, darlin’. Take it easy,” he said, trying to calm you while hiding the look of amusement and pride threatening to break across his face at your impromptu lecture and ranting.
You took a deep breath, shaking your head. “And I know for a fact your files would be an unorganized mess and your paperwork would always be half done without me there to assist you,” you huffed.
“You’re not firing me, Lee,” you said, defiant and definitively. “If anyone is gettin’ fired today, it should be those two idiots, not me.”
Lee considered you for a second, biting on his tongue in thought before he huffed out a laugh through his nose. “I’ll make you a deal, then. I’ll give you five months workin’ your normal days but as soon as your last trimester hits, I don’t want you so much as lifting a finger in that station,” he said, giving you a look that left little room for argument.
You narrowed your eyes at him as you considered it. Five months is a lot of time to make things work in your favor…
“Fine,” you agreed, making your dissatisfaction clear in your tone.
“Don’t give me that look, sugar, you’re gonna kill me with those eyes,” he bemoaned. “I’m already hurt as it is, darlin’,” he gave you his best puppy eyes as he took your hand in his again.
“Well speakin’ of not lifting a finger at the station,” you repeated his sentiment, “You’re gonna be taking a lot longer than just one day off, Sheriff.”
“That so?”
“That is so. And don’t think for one second that you’ll be out patrolling until your arm is completely healed,” you said firmly.
“I think you think it’s a lot worse than it is, sweetheart. I’ll be good as new by next week,” he assured you.
You looked down at his hand in yours and squeezed it, more as a comfort to yourself than anything. “A week, then,” you said, a soft plea disguised under your tone of faux authority. “The whole week. You’re gonna be home, you’re not going on a single call.”
“Hey,” he called, bringing your attention to him, “I’m alright,” he insisted while his eyes were intent on you.
You took a second, looking in his eyes for reassurance and then nodded. “Okay,” you breathed, looking away, feeling that familiar tingling in your nose as you blinked back a fresh wave of tears.
“No more tears, darlin’. Look at me,” he ordered gently. “You’re okay.”
“‘M not worried about me,” you muttered as you met his eye again.
“I know I can’t keep you from worrying’ about me, but darlin’, you really don’t need to.”
“You know how ridiculous it is to hear you say that as you’re layin’ in a hospital bed?” you snapped before your voice quavered as it rose, “You could’ve died, Lee!
And you’re tellin me I don’t need to worry about you?” you scoffed, you looked at him incredulously before you really saw him, laying there hurt and vulnerable whether he wanted to admit it or not, and you softened instantly. It wasn’t him you were so upset at. “You’re the love of my life, Lee,” your voice shook despite you trying to reign in the emotion. “I’m always gonna be worried about you, even if you aren’t worried about yourself. Which, you know, now, you have to. You have to worry because I’m not gonna be raising a little baby Bodecker all on my own,” you tried to ease up as you sniffled, wiping at your eyes.
“I’m sorry, darlin’,” he sighed, regret in his eyes. “I think we just need to go home and relax together. Focus on all the good we got out of today instead of the bad. All this stress can’t be good for the baby, neither.”
You rubbed at your face, growing tired from the whirlwind you’d been through today.
“No,” you shook your head with a sigh of your own, “I’m sorry.” Your hand was on his thigh, your thumb absentmindedly soothing across it as you breathed. “I didn’t mean to get upset - I’m not upset. Not with you, anyway. I just - I’m sorry,” you breathed, not knowing how to properly put into words what you were thinking or feeling, only frustrating yourself further.
“None of that,” he chided as he sat further up and moved to sit on the edge of the bed with you.
“Lee, don’t do that!”
“They didn’t say I couldn’t move,” he argued. “In fact, they said someone’d be in here soon to show me how to dress the wound while it heals and then I can go home. Hand me my pants, sugar?”
You eyed him unbelieving but stood and grabbed his pants anyway, bringing them over for him. He moved his left arm gingerly as he tried to pull them further up his legs once he had his feet through so you took hold of them and helped slide them up for him. You zipped the zipper and buttoned them closed. “Want your belt on, too?”
“No. Thank you, darlin’.” He took the gown he was still wearing off and sat shirtless as he looked to you.
“‘Course,” you said as you took his face in your hands, standing before him. You watched as he let himself revel in the warmth of your touch, sighing heavily as he closed his tired eyes and leaned into your palm.
“Maybe a week off will do me some good,” he mused. “Plus if I’m not there, no reason for you to be, either.”
“Who’s gonna make sure your paperwork gets finished if I’m not there? Or redirect your calls?” you asked as you moved your hands from his face, running your fingers soothingly through his short, dark brown hair instead.
“That’s what the front desk ladies are for. You could use the time off, too. We’ll have our own little vacation,” he sweet talked as he stared up at you like you were his whole world.
“A whole week…” you pondered aloud. “We should use that time well,” you suggested.
“What do you have in mind?”
You shrugged your shoulders as you bit your lip. “I don’t know... What do you think about eloping?”
Lee’s eyes widened as he looked at you confused and almost shocked.
“You want a shotgun wedding?” he asked.
“You don’t have to call it that,” you said, embarrassed. Taking a breath as your hands fell gently to his shoulders. “You want to run for reelection, don’t you?”
Lee nodded in response, and you could see the dots connecting as he did with a sigh of his own.
“You and I both know how important the church vote is for you. Doubt they’ll be all too happy with their chosen sheriff moving his pregnant girlfriend into his home before they’re married.” Lee rolled his eyes but knew you were right.
“Just doesn’t seem fair to you,” he said.
“I think I prefer it,” you replied with a small smile. “Less stress around planning,” you offered.
“If that’s what you want, babydoll, that’s what we’ll do. As long as you’re happy. And as long as I get to call you my wife once it’s all said and done,” he smirked as he pulled you closer to him with his right arm around your waist, “I’m happy, too. And if it helps my approval ratings, well that’s just the cherry on top of the sundae.”
You laughed as you bent to place a kiss to his forehead which he gratefully accepted before he rested his head against your tummy, placing a kiss of his own to your stomach as his hand rubbed your lower back.
“I can’t wait to live the rest of my life with you. Grow this little family of ours,” he smiled affectedly. “Wouldn’t want any of this with anyone else. Only you. The good and the bad, I’ll take all of it as long as I know I’ll have you by my side.”
“You’ll always have me by your side,” you promised as you looked down at him, your adoration, devotion, and love to him and your future family together gleaming brightly in your eyes. “Always.”

“And look! Now Bingo Bunny has a hat to match his brown pants.”
“That’s nice, sweetheart-“
“Oh! I forgot his brown glasses too!” You ran back to your room to pick up yet another tiny accessory to show Lee. Ever since he got home an hour ago, you were running back and forth between his office and your room to show him your new treasures. Each toy had a story that reminded you of another toy which also had a story that connected to a totally different toy.
Lee sighed. He’d seen your entire toy collection by now. This little show-and-tell had started with the toys you bought by yourself today and devolved into a near encyclopedia of your entire collection.
Lee wanted to indulge your need for attention, but he needed to make one last phone call before he was officially done with work for today. Lee found he could never truly relax if he knew he had something to do or somewhere to be.
“I got the glasses! Look at Bingo, Daddy!” You held the bunny out and made him do a little dance.
“He’s lookin’ sharp, sugar.” He beckoned you over and leaned a little closer, then began to speak as if he were telling you a secret. You stopped buzzing for a moment to give Lee all of your focus, he knew just how to excite you and get your attention.
“Why don’t cha make a few more outfits for Bingo and do a fashion show for me later, yeah? Spend a long time on ‘em now. Make sure they’re perfect.”
“Okay, Daddy!” You left your daddy’s office once again, unaware that he was just trying to distract you.
Lee took advantage of this moment to swiftly lock his door and make the phone call. The sooner he could get this over with, the sooner he could be a proper daddy to you.
𓏲 ࣪₊♡
What was supposed to be a ten minute call ended up getting to forty minutes. Lee and Deputy O’Connolly were trying to review the security plan for the county fair, but they kept running into issues. Lee was nearing the end of his rope.
“What kinda idiot put Burke and Smith on entrance security? Those two ain’t nothin’ but trouble. Put ‘em together and add the pretty girls entering the fair into the mix and the line’ll grow ‘till it’s near half a mile!”
“I tell ya, this is the last time I trust anyone else to do shift assignments,” Lee groaned.
The two men continued talking as they made edits to their respective paper copies of the security plan. Then, Lee heard your little hand trying to wiggle open his office door.
“Hold on a second.” Lee covered the receiver and shouted to you, “I’m a bit busy right now!”
You shouted a response, but your voice didn’t project as well as Lee’s and it was muffled by the door.
“I’ll be out later, bunny! Just give me ten more minutes!” Lee thought that was the end of it, but you continued shaking the doorknob and started trying to push the door in.
“For the love of- I’ll call ya back later, Deputy.” Lee hung up the phone and stomped to the door, opening it with a huff.
You were still leaning on the door, but you managed to find your footing after the wood abruptly slipped away from you.
“Oh! Daddy, hi!”
“What is it? Is there a fire?”
“I got Bingo all dressed up! Come look!” You tried pulling Lee’s hand so he’d follow you, but he stayed rooted in his spot.
“Not now, bunny. Daddy’s on a very important phone call.”
“But you said-“
“Well now I’m sayin’ ‘not now’, aren’t I? You know the rules. Ya can’t interrupt Daddy at work unless it’s an emergency and ya sure as hell can’t go around trying to break down every door that stands in your way!”
“I just wanted to show you my Bingo,” you said quietly.
“And I’ll look at him later, but right now I’ve gotta explain to Deputy O’Connolly why I hung up on him ‘cause you’re too much of a damn airhead to know what a locked door means!”
You froze in front of Lee, too stunned to react.
He closed his eyes and ran a hand over his face. “Shit. Baby, I-“
Before Lee could continue, a whimper made its way out of your mouth, breaking you out of your trance and allowing you to run away.
Your daddy watched as you sped into your room and shut the door. He felt pathetic for taking his anger out on his baby. The sheriff wasn’t used to the feeling of white-hot anger and shame rolled into one. These weren’t the actions of the man he prided himself on being.
Lee took a few deep breaths before trying to open your door. You’d taken a page out of his book and locked it this time. You didn’t usually do this. Even when you were upset, you’d leave it unlocked, not even thinking to keep Lee out.
“Bunny, please open the door. Daddy wants to say somethin’ to ya.” Lee leaned his head on the door.
“Daddy gonna say somefin mean ‘gain!” you sobbed.
“No I’m not, I wanna apologize to ya.” Lee sighed. “I’m gonna get the key to your door okay? I need you to hear this.”
“No! No! Don’t wanna hear anything! Just leave me alone!”
Lee’s heart broke at the realization that he had lost your trust. He was your daddy. He was supposed to love you unconditionally and protect you from people who said mean things: people like him.
A tear slid down Lee’s cheek. “Baby, I’m sorry,” he said, his voice cracking slightly. “Daddy’s so fuckin’ sorry he said those mean things to ya. You’re not an airhead. You’re my smart, sweet, beautiful baby. I don’t deserve a perfect little thing like ya.”
Lee leaned against the wall. He was willing to wait as long as it took for you to let him in. To his surprise, not a minute later were you bursting through the door and wrapping your arms around him.
“Hey there, bunny. There’s my sweet baby,” Lee cooed.
You were still crying as you clung onto him. Lee continued soothing you with his words and touch.
“I know, I know.”
“Daddy’s so sorry, baby.”
When the last sobs left your body, Lee apologized again. It wasn’t perfect. Lee was never great with words. But it was soft and real. A gentle whisper in your ear while he hugged you so tight that you felt his tummy rumble with each passing syllable.
“I forgive you, Daddy.”
“You don’t have to, bunny. Daddy was awful to ya. Give me some time to make things right.”
You shook your head against his chest. “I forgive you,” you repeated, stubbornly.
Lee was at a loss for words. How could he ever repay your love? He settled for kissing your forehead and lingering for a moment. He thought about how lucky he was to have you and, for the first time in a while, Lee prayed. He prayed to someone, anyone, that he’d be able to make this up to you.

Withering Rose
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Summary: You come back to Knockemstiff to attend your cousin’s wedding.
Pairing: Lee Bodecker x Exgirlfriend!Reader, Lloyd Hansen x fem!Reader
Warnings: angst, language, mentions of a breakup/heartbreak, threats, awful relatives (cousin/aunt), attempted cheating on Lee's side, mentions of foster care, fluff (not Lee)
A/N: I did not write canon for Lee (Timeline) in this one.
Tumblr media
Knockemstiff. The last place you ever wanted to see again. Coming back here feels like pulling teeth without anesthetic. Seeing your cousin in her white wedding gown – even worse.
This was all you ever dreamed of around ten years ago. Before shit went down and the man you loved left you for some other girl. One with a better reputation and a daddy with pockets full of money.
Not some orphan, raised by her aunt and treated like trash. “Sweetie. Y/N,” your aunt coos, and you try to ignore it’s all just an act.
After your eighteenth birthday, you aged out of state care, which meant that foster care adoption assistance ended too. Your aunt just waited for the money to stop and gave you the boot.
Now she acts as if nothing happened. Dear aunt is a great actress and fools anyone around you. You know better.
You heard through the grapevine that you only got an invitation, so no one asks questions about your whereabouts. As if anyone would care about you. They never did. You always were an outcast.
A withering rose. Fading away in this shitty little town. No water and love keeping you alive. Lonely. Lost. Forgotten. Unwanted. Unloved.
“Isn’t my Y/C/N a beautiful bride?” your aunt chirps. “I bet, if only you’d take better care of yourself you could find a nice man one day too.”
You huff at her words. Of course, she couldn’t shut her mouth and say her hellos. No. She has to rub salt into old wounds. The ones she and your cousin caused.
“Well, being the town's mattress paid off,” you retort. “And just you know, I got a well-paid job, a nice car, and unlike you and your daughter, I don’t need a man paying shit for me. It was a mistake coming here.”
You turn on your heels and storm off, leaving your aunt stunned and speechless behind. She opens and closes her mouth, gasping like a fish out of the water as you flee from the church and don’t look back.
Tumblr media
“I was a fool to believe they changed,” you huff while walking back toward the hotel you are staying at. Not a hotel. It’s a shady motel. The only one in this shitty town.
“Y/N?” you frown as a car slows down and someone pokes his head out of the window. “Y/N YL/N? I knew it was you.”
“What? I-“ looking at the sheriff’s car you frown. “I didn’t do anything wrong, sheriff. Why are you following me?”
“Don’t you remember me, sweet rose?” he stops the car and unbuckles the seatbelt. You watch the sheriff climb out of his car. “It’s me…Lee.”
“Lee Bodecker,” you choke his name out. “You became the sheriff, I see. I guess you got everything you ever wanted. A nice house, that sweet wife, and look at you, you’re the sheriff.”
“I heard you’re back in town,” Lee gives you that smile making your knees buckle. At least it used to affect you. Now he’s just another face you tried to forget. “How have you been, Y/N?”
“Good,” you don’t say the things you recited in your head so many times. It’s like now, that you stand face to face with Lee, your past just doesn’t matter any longer. “How have you been?”
“Life, you know but,” he looks you up and down. “Just look at you. An uptown girl now, huh? A pretty lady in an even nicer dress.”
You roll your eyes. “It was nice seeing you again,” you lie and turn to leave. “Greet your wife from me. I hope she’s doing fine too.”
“Uh—yeah. She’s good…we are good,” he scratches the back of his head. “I had hoped we could talk some more.”
Sighing deeply, you stop walking to look at Lee. “Listen, Lee, we don’t have to pretend, okay.”
“I only want to talk to you, Y/N. Back then I…we…” he stammers.
“I was a foolish girl believing all the things you said meant shit to you too. I grew up the moment you broke up with me for some other girl,” you clear your throat. “You didn’t even care I had nowhere to go after my aunt kicked me out. I don’t want to talk about things I forgot about a long time ago. So, leave me alone, Bodecker.”
“I can drive you to the motel,” Lee offers. He points at his car, smiling widely. “Come on. Let’s remember the good old times.”
“I don’t want to remember the good old times,” you snap at Lee. “You were an asshole back then, and you didn’t change one bit. Do you honestly believe I want to be seen in town with a married man? I don’t think so.”
“Do you want to walk?” he grunts. “It’s going to rain. We don’t want your dress to get wet. Don’t be like that. Let me drive you.”
“I rather walk through mud, rain, and hail. Go and leave me alone. I knew coming here was a mistake,” you wave Lee off. “You’ve got a wife and kids to take care of.”
“Y/N, I can still drive you to your motel. Married or not.”
“Why?” you cock your head. “Why do you want to drive me back to my motel? What do you think will happen?”
“Anything you want to,” he gives you a loop-sided grin, hoping for you to cave in. Just like you always did. Back then.
“I don’t want anything to happen between you and me,” walking away you realize you didn’t have to come here to know that the life you have back at home is so much better than the one you had here.
“Wait—” Lee won’t give in. He gets back in his car and slowly drives next to you. “Get into the car. This is stupid. Stop being so stubborn.”
“I love being stupid and stubborn.”
You walk a little faster to get to your motel as fast as possible. Nothing is holding you here and you want to get back home.
Lee is following you to your motel. He calls your name and tries to get you to talk to him some more. “Fuck, leave me alone.”
The moment the motel is in sight, you start to run to reach your room. A difficult task in heels but you manage to reach your room somehow.
Your hand trembles as you try to push the key into the lock.
“Whoa, cupcake,” you shriek as someone opens the door to your motel room before you can unlock the door. “I thought you are still at the wedding.”
“Lloyd?” you release a shuddery breath. “What are you doing here?”
“I tried to call,” he shrugs as you stare up at him. “I canceled the meeting and got here as fast as possible. Uh—I didn’t want to burst into the church. I planned on picking you up after the ceremony for the party and crap.”
“You’re here,” you throw yourself at your boyfriend and hide your face in his chest. He immediately wraps his arms around your body to offer comfort.
“Now that’s what I call a warm welcome, baby,” he pecks your hair. “Who’s that?”
You totally forgot about Lee and that you stand outside your room. “He wouldn’t take no for an answer.”
“Who is that bastard?” you whimper at Lloyd’s rough tone. He never uses it when you are around, but you heard him bark orders at people.
“Lee Bodecker, the guy I told you about,” you mumble, not wanting to speak any louder. Lloyd knows everything about your past, and he didn’t care.
“Hmm…I see,” Lloyd whispers soft words in your ear, asking you to get inside the room and close the door behind you. “Give me five minutes.”
He kisses your temple and hugs you a little tighter. “I’ll be packing my things. I don’t want to stay here any longer.”
“I’ll be right there, cupcake.”
He watches you walk inside the room, nodding as you look at him. “Please don’t get into trouble because of me.”
You close the door, sighing deeply as your boyfriend makes his way toward Lee.
The sheriff watched you and your boyfriend from inside his car. He’s fuming as Lloyd walks toward his car.
“Do we have a problem here, sheriff,” Lloyd stands next to the driver’s side, poking his head into Lee’s car. “I got the feeling you were following my girlfriend, and I don’t like this one bit.”
“I offered to escort her,” Lee grunts. “This is a sleepy little town, but you never know when someone tries to attack a sweet girl. I wanted to keep her safe.”
Lloyd hums as he straightens his back. He runs two fingers over his mustache, pretending to think about Lee’s words.
“Problem is, it’s my job to keep my girl safe. You didn’t offer protection. All you did was scare my girl. I give you five minutes to get out of my sight.”
“Do you think I’m scared of you?” the sheriff growls. “I’m the sheriff of this town.”
“Yeah? I got that,” Lloyd smirks. “The car, your uniform, and the cheap haircut gave it away.”
“I’m warning you. Threatening a sheriff is a crime,” Lee warns. “You don’t want me to get out of this car.”
Lloyd grins. “You see, I’m not a man of many words. I rather use my influence to get rid of people making my girl feel bad. You don’t want me to call a few people and make sure you’ll lose more than your lousy job.”
“I-“ Lee considers Lloyd’s warning. Is it worth it to ruin his life only to get his hands on you? “I only wanted to give her a ride.” He starts the engine, watching Lloyd retreat.
“Good choice, sunshine,” your boyfriend mumbles under his breath as Lee drives off. “We see each other again. One way or another…”
Tumblr media
“You sure you don’t want me to break his neck,” Lloyd softly asks as you snuggle into his chest. “Cupcake?”
“I’m good, Lloyd,” you sigh against him. “I only want to forget about him, my aunt, and my past. We have a life together. Here and now.
“Here and now, Y/N,” he assures you but plans on visiting your ex one day. Maybe not today, but soon…

“Lee, honey, talk to me,” you plead softly, “please?”
Lee’s shoulders tensed at the sound of your voice, it was the only indication that he heard you at all. He stood with his back to you as he stirred his early afternoon coffee, still refusing to talk to you. You gave a soft huff at his silence, but resigned to letting him have his space. The kitchen was otherwise noiseless, except for the gentle grating of the metal spoon against the ceramic coffee mug. He set the spoon down firmly, his hands resting on the counter in front of him.
“Do you understand why I’m mad?” He gritted out, his sudden firm voice startling you from your own cup of coffee.
“Yes, I do,” you nod understandingly and stand from your seat at the table, slowly moving to stand next to him. “And, you have every right to be upset with me.”
“I just-“ he sighs, rubbing his face with one hand before turning to look at you, his eyes softening ever so slightly, “I don’t like being laughed at.”
“I know, honey, neither do I,” you agree and rub his back, the movement brought Lee a level of comfort that he needed terribly. “But you have to admit, it was pretty funny.”
The early morning sun was dazzling, more radiant than Lee had ever seen it before in his life. He sat in bed as long as he could before the desire to get a closer look pulled him out of bed and out on to the porch. Cool morning air greeted him as he stood at the edge of the porch. Taking a deep breath in, Lee soaked up the calming rays quietly, thinking to himself ‘oh, this is the life.’
A twig breaking from the trees broke Lee’s silent moment to himself, his piercing eyes zeroing in on the source of the noise. A stag. Lee couldn’t help but gasp when he spotted the animal, the small intake of air was enough for the stag to lock eyes with Lee. Sprawling horns that were at least 6 feet across adorned the head of the stag. It was gorgeous. He was tempted to go wake you up so you could see it too, but the stag’s gaze kept him pinned to his spot. He was captivated. So captivated, that he didn’t hear you creep up behind him.
The next thing he knows, his sleeping pants are around his ankles, his knees in the breeze, and you’re laughing so hard barely any noise is coming out. Your laughter scares off the stag, and Lee watches as it runs back into the thick brush of trees. He quickly yanks up his sleeping pants, his face burning with embarrassment and his chest boiling with anger. He stomps back into your shared bedroom, grabbing his clothes and making a beeline for the shower.
“Oh, Lee, come on, don’t be mad,” you say through your fit of giggles, slowly calming down as you notice your husband’s anger.
“Lee!” You call out to him as the door to the bathroom slams with thundering force. He refused to speak to you for the rest of the morning.
“It was not funny!” He defended with a small whine to his voice, “I flashed that deer!”
“Honey, that deer didn’t know what he was lookin’ at! It was a deer!” You reasoned with a soft smile, fighting back any more laughter that threatened to escape you. He sighs, looking away as he replays this morning’s events over in his mind once more. Ok, maybe he was overreacting.
“It was a little funny,” Lee cracked a small smile, making you grin and giggle. “You’re a menace, you know that, right? A God damn minx.”
“There he is,” you chuckled when you saw his smile and gave Lee’s cheek a sweet peck, “my handsome man.”
“Yeah, yeah, yeah,” he says bashfully and shakes his head, his face a light pink. He turns to kiss you properly, he didn’t kiss you good morning like he normally would, so the feeling of your plush lips on his had Lee sighing softly. You weren’t any better off, you practically melted on the spot when you felt his large hands cup your head and waist. God, you loved this man.
“I am sorry, Lee,” you whisper against his lips, your arms slinging around his neck to hold him as close as possible. The room was quickly heating with the rising tension between you two, your coffees long forgotten in favor of each other’s lips.
“I know, Babydoll, I forgive you,” he whispers back before diving in for another kiss, this one deeper and more demanding. The way he pulled you into him with much more force than normal told you that he was already planning something. Your lungs burn as he holds you firmly in the kiss, a hand on the back of your head keeps you pinned in place. He releases your lips when the need for air is almost desperate, both of you panting and gasping for air. The playful glint in his eyes gave way to a darker glare, one that you were very familiar with. He licked his lips and gave you a wolfish grin.
“If you think m’not gonna punish you for your little joke, you’ve got another thing comin’, girl.”

help, i'm still at the restaurant;still sitting in a corner i haunt
the familiar scent of the diner hangs around the air, as y/n sits at the corner she watches everything unfold. she sees families smiling eating the food, couples either happy or arguing or the group of old ladies chit chatting and exchanging gossip drinking their third cup of coffee. y/n smiles at the vision in front of her, the noise distracting her from the pain- this diner had meant a lot to her a few years back. this was where the man that she loved so much took her to on their first date, this was the diner where they had their first kiss and this was the same very diner he broke her heart in.
she sits in the corner with her lilac sundress with her cream cardigan and her pinned up hair. she sat in the corner, notebook opened and surrounded by books. y/n was trying to study, she aspired to be more than what this town offered to young girls like her. the book on anatomy staring directly at her as she remembers why this plan of hers was stalled.
she could still feel his lingering kisses on her shoulders, his deep voice whispering on her ear, professing his constant love for her. it seemed forbidden at first but as it went on she let herself be indulged in the love and she loved it. y/n loved being loved by him, by the one person this town thought was incapable of such thing. and just as the thought of him vanishes in her brain, she hears the diner bell ring his laugh rings throughout the establishment and y/n freezes. her brain short circuits as she hears him, her stars beating faster, breathe shortens and suddenly everything she sees slows down.
she hears him demand the corner booth, the one where she's currently sat at,
-"i'm sorry sheriff bodecker, someone is currently sat at the corner booth," she hears lee scoff and as she looks up to see his reaction, he looks up to see who is sat there. the brief eye contact makes her hands shake and she looks away as fast as she could. y/n closes her eyes, she could not believe this was happening. it was to happen sooner or later but right now y/n would have preferred for this to happen later. y/n shuffles uncomfortably in her seat as the hostess lead lee and the woman he's with to the booth two spaces over. only then does she notice that the woman was carrying a toddler. another breathe gets stuck in her throat and y/n's heart aches. y/n wants to leave, she wants to run away yet something in her mind convinced her to stay- to focus on the anatomy book staring at her and that's what she does.
-"lee! not here, not in public!" the woman yells and she couldn't bear to not look up, only then she sees lee attacking the woman's neck with kisses. a tear rolls down y/n's cheek and she sniffles, wiping it and she gets up. y/n should not be suffering this much pain, she doesn't deserve the hurt that's haunting and plaguing her heart and mind. packing her things in her bag, y/n makes her way out of the dinner to only be met with the toddler lee was with to crash into her. her books spill onto the ground, the toddler also falls down on his butt. before y/n could think, she rushes over and helps the child, tears starting to form on his eyes as she tries to pick up the child, calloused hands collide with hers. flashbacks of his calloused hands on her body flash in her mind as she quickly takes her hands back, turning to collect her books.
-"'m sorry didn't mean to bump into you," she apologizes to the kid, who is now staring at her with kind eyes.
-"'s okay! mommy pretty!' the child points to her and she smiles as he appreciates her beauty.
the woman speaks up, berating her child for pointing in such a crude manner to a lady he doesn't know and whilst all this was happening lee stares at her- she couldn't decipher the feeling behind it, although for him it was pure adoration, the fact that y/n had put the child before her items, it warmed his heart. as y/n smiles at the child, lee's heart jumped, he missed her smile even more her laugh which was mesmerizing.
lee remembers the pain he caused her- her glossy eyes and wobbling lips as he tells her his news.
-"can't do it anymore sweets, need to break this up" her eyes flash to him, first with adoration the realization of what he had just said.
-"what are you talking about lee?" her pity attempt of a laugh to cover up her almost broken voice. and he stared at her, almost hearing her heart break as he repeats it again.
-"y/n i can't be with you anymore." the firmness in his voice makes her hand flinch, knocking the glass off of the table, the shattering noise of it scaring everyone around them, bringing the attention to the events unfolding between lee and y/n.
she nods at him, tears melting the makeup she spent so much time putting on- she wanted to plead with him, ask him for an explanation but she couldn't voice out any reason. she thought lee was proposing to her- the hole in the bottom of her stomach widen and everything started crashing down.

y/n walks out of the diner, peering into lee laughing and smiling with the woman he was with along with the child- she had hoped that image for their future two years ago and now she's left picking up the pieces of herself, persevering to make something better of herself because if she had let the sadness swallow her she would've drowned in them, stuck in this godforsaken town that she didn't want to be in longer.
lee gets up, helping his new girl and her son- a piece of paper catching his attention, he could only assume that it fell out of y/n's bag. he picks it up and his breathe hitches, the train ticket to new york staring back at him- she was moving and he was frozen in the position until he hears dorothy asking if he was ok, nodding lee tucked the ticket into his front pocket- leading her and her son back into his black deville cadillac.
y/n gets home, her luggage staring at her and she takes them to the station, yet when she got there, her train ticket seemed to be missing- the ticket was last seen in her bag tucked into one of her books. buying a new ticket, y/n boards the train and she sees all of meade disappear. calmness surrounds her as she falls into a slumber in her cabin.
