alright but what about when YOU propose to them? 😁
So first I thought about myself and how long and I realized I would only propose to Lee. Like less than 3 months into I am asking this man to marry me. haha, and I would think about it with Willy, but wouldn't.
Anyways the reader is under the cut.
Willy is being proposed to first. He is just lovely who wouldn't propose to him. It would be after 4 months.
Paul because you love him and things are moving fast, but it's love and life is short and you just wake up next to him one day, 5 months into your relationship and you can't help but kiss him until he wakes up and ask him if you want to be bound together until there is no breath in your bodies.
Laurie is next because Laurie wants to marry you but he is taking so long. He's dropping hints and you can't take it. So at 6 months, you walk to his house and when he opens the door you ask him to marry you.
Lee, you ask 8 months into your relationship and traveling around the States together. You end up in Vegas and you can't stop thinking about it so you ask him. He thinks you are joking at first, but when he sees how serious he cries because he loves you so much and never felt as loved as you make him.
Hal is after a year of courting. You are annoyed so you don't really propose but you force him to.... by telling him about all the "other men" that have asked for your hand. And as you are still sans ring you might just say yes to one.
Elio is next, you spend a summer with him and fall in love and then you go home. you write as often as you can and continue our relationship LD and when you are finally with him again you hug him tightly and ask him to marry you.
Kyle is last. Two years into the relationship you are having sex. you are in control for once and Kyle is moaning and gripping your hips so hard and you tease about being so whipped for you and he just nods and you ask if he is whipped enough to marry you. To let you stake claim to him forever. He says yes in the heat of the moment. And the next day he still doesn't like marriage but to you, for you, he can risk the government.

Genuine question: why do so many people talk about Meg like she's vain? Like, how is wanting nice things and wanting to fit in 'vain'? I can understand people saying that about Amy, especially when she's a kid, but Meg is the sweetest of the four sisters next to Beth? And isn't vanity being too self-important? Am I missing something? (Sorry for all the questions, but I just do not understand)
I don't mind questions at all. Keep them coming :)
I have often wondered this myself. I wonder if it has something to do with Meg being more a feminine type of girl, and people attack her simply because she likes to be girlish and femininity is often connected with vanity. I don't know.
In the book, like you said Meg is not really a vain person. The whole Vanity Fair chapter, is really more about self-discovery and Meg's thinking about her own self-worth. These other rich girls, they treat her like she is a doll and they play dress-up games with her. In the end, Meg even said she could not recognise herself any more.
The 2019 film, completely missed the point in this (once again). Gerwig said that "Meg needs a day of from her miserable life". Meg in the book never thinks her life is terrible. Yes, she is poor, but in the end of the Vanity Fair chapter, it feels more like "I would not change my life for the lives of these girls. It is so hollow". If the person only watches 2019 film, and takes that narration, no wonder people think that Meg is a vain person.
I also think it is really hypocritical sometimes, the way Meg gets criticised, when she buys the silk for a dress. She was very poor and getting luxury items was pretty rare for her. That is not something a poor girl should be condemned. If we think about Laurie, he is written to be very dandy. A nice looking young man who likes to take care of his appearance. Jo even criticises how he buys expensive gloves and perfumes what not. Nobody, ever critices Laurie for that.
Total double standards.
Also, Laurie was a metro-sexual, before metro-sexuality was a thing.

In Little Women, it is said that when Laurie began to fall in love with Amy "he was fueled with new life". He ditches the failed opera and begins to long for earnest work. He goes to a church (I still don't know if Laurie was Catholic) which indicates that he is self-exploring, not just his love affairs, but he is having a moment of self-reflection of what he wants from life.
Throughout the novel, Laurie is said to be a character who is more controlled by his emotions than his sense. He is impulsive and easily agitated, but this is when he starts to become calmer and more mature and balanced.

okay i need to talk about jo & laurie, specifically in the 2019 version:
i love so much the way that they share their clothes, for the majority jo wearing lauries clothes in an attempt to present as more masculine but also in some ways laurie presenting in slightly more feminine ways.
i mean over all i could talk about the costume in LW2019 for hours but that’s something i love so much about them

Little Women You Should Not Change For The Other Person
I have been thinking a lot about love and Little Women. Especially romantic love. People were a lot more conservative about marriage in the 19th century than they are today and from what I have read Louisa May Alcott's stories and diaries, she took marriage very seriously. In one article that she wrote around the same time she wrote Little Women, she wrote that marriage should require a "meeting of the minds", similar interests, matching tempers and also that marriage that is only based on "looks and beauty" is not going to last.
When it comes to Jo and Laurie, Laurie keeps saying that he is going to change for Jo. He is going to school, he is going to give up billiards and smoking...but Laurie also says, that once he and Jo marry, Jo can stop writing, once he and Jo marry, He doesn't need to grow up, he and Jo can continue being friends and Jo can continue to mother him, all she has to do is to sacrifice her own wishes and dreams.
So Laurie basically is saying that once Jo marries him, he expects Jo to change.
When Laurie falls in love with Amy, Laurie doesn't even think about Amy needing to change for him, or him needing to be something else than he is.
When Friedrich proposes to Jo he says his hands are empty. The only thing that he can offer to Jo is himself the way he and his love for her and Jo want to take it, and when Friedrich confesses his love, Jo feels unworthy of it "sad creature she was sobbing in the rain" the narrator writes. Jo is amazed that Friedrich loves her with all of her flaws and quirks and he never wants to change her and she doesn't want to change him.
When it comes to relationships, dating and marriages, you can't expect to change the other person. If there are problems the only person you can change is yourself and if the other person changes, they only change if they want to.
When it comes to for example Little Men, when I read the scenes between Jo and Fritz, in the eyes of each other, they have only improved.

There are people who always say that Laurie never stopped loving Jo and always wanted to be with him.
In the novel, Laurie got over Jo so fast, that he was ashamed of it.
