Bio:

In the foster system from a young age, where she met Maggie Carter, who would become her best friend. They basically grew up together until Maggie was adopted by Leah.

Laurel bounced around from home to home but she wasn’t ever adopted by any family. Everyone always wanted babies and Laurel was too old by their standards.

Stayed in very close contact with Maggie over the years that Maggie was in Baberton.

It wasn’t until after Ella was outed as the final serial killer that she came to Baberton. She wanted to be there for her friend and she was looking for a fresh start.

She went to college to become a psychologist with a focus on children and young adults, more often than not those in the foster system because she knows what it’s like and wants to help wherever she can.

Secrets:

Slept with Maggie during the night of Maggie’s bachelorette party. She feels kind of bad but she doesn’t altogether regret it.

Knows about the baby that was stolen from Maggie during her kidnapping ordeal many years ago now.

Was stalked throughout high school by one of her former foster brothers. Things went back to normal when he disappeared and Laurel doesn’t like to talk about it. Particularly because she’s the one who killed him during a kidnapping attempt, pushing his body down over a cliff into the ocean, never to be seen again.

So Bethy's school has been jerking us around cuz the transport for the school has told us countless times that they HAVE to provide transportation anywhere in Delaware so long as we live here. We've known this for 2 years. She's had to deal with being picked up from Laurel, Delmarva, Bethany Beach, Millsboro, and Georgetown. And they have to get her every time as we moved from motel to motel.

Now they're claiming that they can no longer do it despite us being only half an hour away and STILL in Delaware. And instead of handling this with her parents, who they have the phone numbers and emails of, they've had her in the office, practically grilling her like she's done something wrong, ever since she got to school this morning. That's almost 4 hours.

And they only just let her call mom. She's bawling cuz they're claiming Millsboro(which is closer to her school than Bethany Beach is btw), is just too far out of the way and they want mom to transfer her to a different school district. So, she can't attend classes or marching band anymore?

ghost: Who or what haunts your OC? What happened? How do they live with their ghosts?

For Ariel, it's Malcolm more than anyone. Losing him was the beginning of everything going wrong. I've headcanoned a pretty intense relationship between the two of them, especially in the years before Bethany's magic manifested when Ariel was the One Mage Kid he poured all his effort and fear into. Ariel copes with his loss by... basically Becoming Dad when he dies, which doesn't always go well (especially with Carver) but it's all they really know how to do

Laurel is haunted by every other member of her family, because those are the deaths she views as her fault. Laurel was the healer, but she couldn't heal Bethany, so she learned to fight. But then when they went to the Deep Roads she still couldn't protect Carver, so he died too. And then when Leandra was taken, Laurel got so desperate she turned to blood magic and still couldn't save her mom. She honestly doesn't cope with this well at all and the Arishok's attempted takeover is the thing that shocks her out of her depressive episode after Leandra's death.

secret: What's one secret your OC never wants anyone to know about them?

Ariel's is that they earnestly believe they are stupid. Ariel's personality is mostly purple so they crack jokes about their own intelligence the way they crack jokes about everything, but they are sometimes afraid their friends will realize they mean it

Laurel's is that she had a much harder time quitting blood magic than she lets on, partially because she thinks of blood magic itself as evil and partially because she doesn't want to be seen as weak
