Hi! Love your blog! Warhammer is something I've been interested in for a long time. I loved playing the Dawn of War trilogy when I was younger. But the lore and world and sheer amount of games involving W40K is a bit overwhelming. I was wondering if you had some insight on where to "start", especially in terms of learning world lore. Sure I could watch 175 hours of YouTube videos but.....I'd rather not.
Hi, happy to lend a hand!
40k has two main ways of learning lore, the rule books/codices, and novels published by Black Library. The latest edition of core rules (10th edition) released last july and about 50% of that massive tome is background on the setting and various factions competing on the galactic scale. Smaller more faction specific codices have been released this edition for Tyranids, Necrons, Space Marines, Dark Angels, Mechanicus and the Necrons.
Old editions and codices can be bought on ebay or other resellers for pretty cheap if you’re just interested in lore, though i’d personally recommend sticking to 7th edition at the earliest as several now-prominent factions had not been developed before then (Mechanicus, Custodes, Chaos Knights, Leagues of Votann for example all got their first codices in 8th or 9th edition).
Novels set in the 40k universe are available from Black Library publishing directly, or through bookstores or possibly your local library. These are broken into ~3 categories relevant to 40k. 1) The ~50 book Horus Heresy series takes place 10K years prior to the current game setting and explains the speedrun rise and fall of the human Imperium. 2) Dawn of Fire, an 8 book series focused on developing the current 40k setting and the Indomitus Crusade 3) Standalone 40k books which focus on certain events or characters of interest from nearly every faction. Idk what characters or races have caught your interest, but Option 3 has the most diversity, and generally does not require having read one book to understand another. There are small exceptions such as novels about Ahriman, Belisarius Cawl, or the Plague Wars, having multiple books though, so do a quick google search before you purchase. Audiobooks are also available for a significant portion of Black Library’s offerings.
For general wikipedia style link-diving i highly recommend Lexicanum.
Let me know if you have any further questions, happy to help! :D

The sound of the Game Boy start-up screen rang from the android woman as she stood tall and firm inside the other's room. Your muse had wanted to relive some classics and enjoy some Pokemon or Link's Awakening on the original console they were made for. So one eBay auction later what your Muse thought would be a Gameboy was shipped to their home. What they found when the package arrived was a massive box with the woman inside. She was clearly an android given... well a lot of things but mainly that she came from a box and had a massive screen in the middle of her chest. After charging her up and standing her the screen lit up, her eyes soon opening as she smiled.
"Greetings, I am Game Girl, thank you for your recent purchase of Sextendo's latest innovation in gaming fun. May I have your name for my system or would you rather be known as master or mistress?"

Outside of my usual update posts, I try not to talk about my Marshall collection too much. I'm often worried someone might get jealous if I bring it up a lot, or that others may see it as me trying to brag... or, in the case of someone on Twitter, use it as an excuse to whine about a character they don't like! However, while looking over my shelves to find spots (heh) for my latest purchases, I realized something that I felt was worth talking about...
My collection's becoming a time capsule, huh?
PAW Patrol is ten years old now, and throughout its history, we've seen so many toys, plush dolls, and other types of merchandise based on its characters, films and themes. However, once these products fulfill their purpose, most of them disappear, never to be seen on store shelves again (at this point, you'll have to hope you can get lucky and find them on Ebay or something). Granted, this isn't a new concept, as companies have been doing this before any of us were born. But whether it's a figurine based on a subseries, a candy-filled tin cup, or something else entirely, many of these products are now starting to become lost in time.
Tumblr media
Take this ornament, for instance. When I first found out about it, I could only find a single picture of it on an old page on a Sears website (listed as "out of stock" for many years). If you go looking for it now, you likely won't find anything about it anywhere. Unless I'm mistaken, the only place you'll see it now is... well, on my account.
Tumblr media
How about lunch boxes based on particular themes? I feel like Sea Patrol was pretty big for a while, but with the launch of Aqua Pups, you probably won't see any of its illustrations anymore. There's also that figurine and plush doll of Marshall wearing his winter Sea Patrol coat... which popped up once and then never again.
Tumblr media
How about this product? It was never sold in the USA, so I had to import it from the United Kingdom. I still think it's one of the coolest items in my collection, since whoever manufactured it clearly put in the extra effort to make it look quite accurate to the character... and it's just a shampoo bottle! It was made in 2016, so you won't see too many of them anymore, especially unopened and in good condition. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if only a handful exist now.
Tumblr media
What about the old plush designs? Some have floppy legs, while others can stand on their own. Now that Spin Master's switched to a new style, you likely won't see these in stores anymore. Some websites might still sell them, but otherwise, they're a thing of the past now.
Tumblr media
How about my Ready Race Rescue theatrical poster? Yes, believe it or not, it actually played in some! As far as I'm aware, these posters were never sold in stores, which means they were made specifically for use in theaters. Once the mini-movie drove ran its course, most of them were thrown away. I was fortunate someone not only kept one, but also put it on Ebay, too. To be honest, I wouldn't be surprised if this is one of the few that still exists.
Tumblr media
I could surely go on about the many other products we'll likely never see in stores again, but no doubt we'd be here all day. Again, this isn't anything new or surprising, since the old always gets pushed out in favor of the new at some point or another. But hey, just because something is old, that doesn't mean it should be forgotten! Honestly, I like tracking down these older products and, in a way, preserving them so they can be viewed by fans once again... especially if it involves a favorite character of mine!
Of course, it's difficult to say if any of this will mean anything in the future. PAW Patrol is big, but it's no Mickey Mouse or Star Wars. I have to imagine a Pup-Fu Marshall toy from 2015 can't compare to a Luke Skywalker action figure from 1977. Thus, I have to wonder... will PAW Patrol ever become just as big, or will it inevitably conclude and simply fade from our minds as the years go by? Will anyone look back at these toys and see them with the same level of fondness? It's possible that, in ten or twenty years from now, everything I've purchased will only be worth a dollar or two at a Goodwill or yard sale. Perhaps my collection's only good for collecting dust?
Well, even if that's true, I don't mind. These items are linked to a character I love, so regardless of how the future views them, they'll all remain special to me. Perhaps, in the end, that's all that matters. :)

My slide/negative scanner I have been hyperfixating on.
Describing the five pieces above for your education, amusement, or annoyance, your call -- which mercifully I have put on the other side of a page break...
The scanner (Nikon Coolscan 4000 ED, item 4) I got at Goodwill for $10, but you can’t find them for less than $300 online presently. Walmart price is $2,200! They hit the market circa 2001 and came with the drivers for Windows XP, then there was a software update to get it into Vista, but this scanner has such a devoted fanbase -- it’s still considered one of the best scanners ever produced even today -- that an edit to the driver .INF file was written by someone other than Nikon so it could be used in Windows 7 through 10 (I have no idea about 11 as yet). The interface is FireWire, rather than USB, which isn’t an issue to me because I have an IEEE 1394 ExpressCard for my notebook (an eBay purchase cheap from China) and an IEEE1394 PCI Express card in my computer ($2 from a junkshop downtown). The black dust cover slides down so the accessories listed below can be inserted.
The 35mm negative strip adaptor (item 1) came with the scanner but the other two standard accessories listed below did not. It does indeed work with an entire 2-to-20-image strip of negatives at one go, thumbnailing the contents in the Nikon software so it can scroll through the strip to look at whichever image you want.
The single slide adaptor (item 2) I got a comparably good price on, and it’s the thing I’ve been using the most. Especially on what you see on Vintage Slideshow. Insert a slide, and automatically the scanner sucks it in and creates a preview scan. The Nikon software is pretty good at image manipulation and correction, but for simplicity reasons if I have a really lousy slide to fix I’ll use VueScan as the scanning software instead.
The negative adaptor tray (item 3) will accept single 35mm negs as well as other sizes of negatives; I’ve scanned 110, 126, and 127 negatives with this doohickie, which can hold a strip of 4 of the latter two sizes and 6-8 of 110... one just needs to move the slider to put one image into the view frame. This adaptor goes into the 35mm negative strip adaptor, and someone on eBay offers an alternative that they 3D-printed for about half the going price.
The 50-slide magazine (item 5) is the latest addition to the family because it took me several years to locate one at a price less than $400. (Would you believe Walmart is asking $1,500?) It scans one slide at a time, but can crank through a stack in autopilot so you don’t have to keep swapping slides. There’s a known issue with this device [FS-200] and its upgrade [FS-200(S)] jamming because it can try to pull more than one slide into the chamber at a time, but several solutions have been found by the fanbase and the one I like most is taping a cable tie (with the end cut flush) along the wall separating the input from the output, the end about 2mm from the entry passage, so that only the first slide will be in the right position and angle to enter the chamber.
There are other adaptors available which I don’t think I’ll ever need, such as for reading APS film rolls or for magnifying glass microscope slides.

what is it? who knows!
it’s an EYE inside a bunch of HEPTAGONS which is a word the seller didn’t know (they said pentagon) and being slightly mis-listed tends to make me more interested because it feels like you found something unexpected
Had to put the split ring on it myself but I still have a lot of them left from doing the Night Cascades pendants and this was MUCH easier to put on a ring than those were.

Newbie question here: where you buy the discs? I would like to purchase a complete discography. C'mass webshop link are not of much help.
Candlemass love to make our lives miserable, so... there's not an official internet shop that offers everything in the catalog. At this point, that would be impossible (due to discontinued versions).
Do you want some epic doom metal? then, you have to suffer ~
Here are some tips (I wish I had the money to be a serious collector 😭)
Discogs is awesome, you can search for a certain item filtering by release, version, condition, etc. but some prices can be high. It’s the most useful site if you want some rares or limited editions or are looking for a certain pressing.
Ebay is really helpful, but try to do a worldwide search. Many of the best items are located in Europe, so if you're outside Europe, be ready to pay for painful shipping rates especially if you want vinyl records
Check some related labels' stores as they stock re-issues or latests albums. I mean: Nuclear Blast, Season of Mist, Burning Shed, Peaceville etc.
If you want first-pressings or really old items, you have to spend a lot more than you would like to. All my first pressings were bought in a local market when they were cheaper or I stole them from my family's collection.
There are a lot of re-issues and nice editions of the classic albums so you'll definitely find something you like at a good price.
Some versions of "non-classics" (Idk how to name them) are too expensive as they don't have re-issues. Death Magic Doom is an example, the vinyl record was never re-issued and it's selling for a similar price of an Epicus first press 🥺️ so if you aren’t desperate, skip them or wait for a re-issue.
If you're looking for limited boxsets like Doomology, you will need a few extra money and a bit of luck to find them (especially at a good price). These box sets can be really heavy and need to be well protected to be shipped overseas.
Behind the Wall of Doom is more affordable but it's still a vinyl sized heavy book, so the shipping can be horrible. I paid like 35 usd to get mine shipped from UK throught the cheapest postal method because I'm poor and I had hopes to avoid customs ~
Don’t limit your search to your country or near countries. I’ve had items shipped from Sweden, Italy, Germany, Portugal, Greece, UK and Japan. If the seller doesn’t ship to your location and you can’t find the item in other website, then using mail forwarding services is the option.
If you’re starting, browse Discogs and read about every version and make a kind of list (or wishlist) with what you want, save it as “watched/in wantlist” there and on Ebay to get alerts and compare prices.
If I think of something else, I’ll update this 🖤

My latest art attempt in my quest to improve at drawing is Garfield with Clifford. I liked how my Garfield and Clifford plushies looked when I put them together so I decided to try to do a drawing inspired by this. I took a couple of photos to help, but my attempt to draw them together didn’t go too well. I love the idea of my drawing, but I just couldn’t get them to look right. I’m still a long way from where I want to be.
In case anyone is curious about the plushies, the Garfield is the 25th anniversary plush that I got on eBay, and the Clifford is a palm pal by Aurora which I purchased from my company, A&M Moonlight Creations.

RECENT NEWS, RESOURCES AND STUDIES, Early July 2022, Part 1
Tumblr media
Welcome to my latest summary of the top news, studies and helpful resources for Etsy, social media, and SEO, compiled since my last update in May. There has just been too much going on, and I apologize for being so slow getting this out for you.
Part 2 should be out by the end of the week, but I won’t have time to work on it until Wednesday now. That will include the remaining categories such as ecommerce, advertising, and buyer psychology. [UPDATE: part 2 can be found here.]
For those who are new to these updates, remember: you don’t have to read everything! Just skim through the topics for the parts you are interested in or are trying to learn. The whole idea here is that you save time by getting summaries of things you might want to know more about, instead of having to read tons of websites yourself.
For new readers, please let me know what you think, and if you have any questions or comments. You can reply below on this post, email me through my website, or contact me on Twitter.
TOP NEWS & ARTICLES
The German packaging law makes marketplaces responsible for making sure their sellers are in compliance as of July 1, so you’ve probably received a few emails and alerts about it by now. Here are instructions from Etsy and eBay, and information from Printful. Reclay seems to be the cheapest company to sign up with; if you are having trouble at a stage of the process, check here for step by step instructions from an Etsy seller. Also remember that Germany is not the only country with these requirements; France, for example, has a new law as well, with a higher seller cost. You can check individual countries here.
USPS rates went up on July 10th, including a 2 cent increase in First-Class forever stamps.
The United States is banning imports from the Xinjiang region of China due to forced labour camps in that area, which may mean bans on marketplaces and with payment processors. I have already heard of one item being automatically removed on Etsy, i.e., as soon as the seller listed it.
ETSY NEWS
Etsy had to update the site for new Canadian tax laws as of July 1, and it’s a complete mess. Canadian sellers who are registered to collect GST now have to add it to their item prices. For sellers outside of Canada, note that Etsy is supposed to charge provincial tax on orders from your Manitoba and Saskatchewan customers, but not British Columbia. They are making mistakes on all of this, and overcharging some customers.  I have a full rundown on the GST/HST issues here on my blog, with a special post for seller information and issues here on Tumblr.
While Etsy announced that listing descriptions have been added to its search algorithm in May, most sellers will see little change, and all words in the description are definitely not searchable (my blog post).
Starting August 1, Etsy will have a new “Purchase Protection Program” to replace the cobbled-together and often violated rules we’ve seen over the past few years. How this changes your seller protection depends on what you sell, where you live, how you ship etc. For example:
Orders over $250 USD are not covered
Orders require tracking or purchase through Etsy Labels; proof of shipping or delivery confirmation does not count
Orders that are insured need the insurance claim to be completed and basically rejected for protection to apply
So read the fine print carefully before assuming you have protection; here’s the legal policy page. The only good thing about this program is that buyers won’t be left in the lurch when something doesn’t arrive.
Awarding individual seller performance badges is now a permanent change. Etsy has also changed 3 aspects of the Star Seller Program, including:
Making the review score threshold an average of 4.8 instead of 19 out of 20 being 5 star reviews (effective July 1)
Introducing a new Messages tool (apparently called “Messenger” as we saw from their accidental sneak preview May 31st) that will combine multiple threads from one buyer into one thread (this will be out sometime in June, meaning you need to keep replying to multiple threads until then, or mark them as spam)
Lowering the order minimum to only 5 in the 3 month period, down from 10 (effective August 1)
I covered Etsy’s first quarter 2022 report here. (TL;DR - sales have been down on the Etsy website since February compared to the previous year, but they are still increasing profits.) Etsy finally put out their watered-down version for shop owners in the last week of May.
Etsy admits that its search results aren’t very personalized just yet, but they are working on it: “We were just meeting with some shareholders a minute ago who are reflecting that it’s still the case today, that when three of them log in and do a search for an item they all see the same search results, even though they’re different genders and in different cities and all that, that’s true. It’s only been less than a year since we’ve had any personalization of our search capabilities at all. And the opportunity to bring you things that reflect your taste, your style, your stage of life, it’s a huge opportunity for us to get even more relevant for you.”
Updates to categories and attributes in May included some random Home and Living changes, multiple craft machine files, and roller skate accessories, while at the end of June Etsy removed some baby categories that are now banned for sale in the United States, and added lighting, furniture, and scrub caps subcategories, while changing the “Unisex Adult clothing” sub cat to “Gender Neutral”. The Etsy forum thread on the baby nests, crib bumper and moses basket/hammocks ban is quite odd, with the usual large number of wrong items banned, but the topic has seemingly died off. I tweeted a screenshot of the post about Etsy’s wording on the message here. If you have heard any further developments in this area, please let me know!
The Etsy Fall Trends report expressly mentions they do look at industry forecasts as well as Etsy stats to generate the ideas. It covers back to school, Halloween and other trends in most large categories, including year over year (YoY) search trends such as “345% YoY increase in searches on Etsy containing “jungle nursery decor”...71% YoY increase in searches on Etsy containing “bright wall art”...71% YoY increase in searches on Etsy containing “bright wall art”...1,050% YoY increase in searches on Etsy containing “boy’s briefcase”...40% YoY increase in searches on Etsy for sequin clothing…143% YoY increase in searches on Etsy containing “crystal bead bracelet”...931% YoY increase in searches on Etsy containing “crochet pattern boho”.
Klarna’s Pay in 4 service is now available to Etsy’s Canadian buyers.
The “newest” Etsy review test is buyer videos, only visible to sellers at the moment. Not sure why this took so long to be announced, because I did a thread on them back in September 2021.
Remember, Etsy can sometimes decipher what’s in your photos and images. There have been recent counterfeit bot takedowns for words in the picture. We've also seen them bot-suspend shops for photos/images used in other shops, and suggest similar-looking items in search results.
The Etsy Strike organization has rebranded as the Indie Sellers Guild, and is officially a non-profit now. Here is their new FAQ.
A class-action has been filed against Etsy for US-based users who cannot use Etsy because they are visually impaired. The suit alleges that elements such as the drop down menus, and the lack of alt-text, make it impossible to shop and purchase. [By default, Etsy uses the first part of the listing title as the alt-text, but in October 2021 finally introduced the ability to choose alt-text for shops listing in English only.]
On a similar topic, Etsy is again getting bad about making its content accessible to all sellers and users. This podcast about Etsy’s new intellectual property Reporting Portal didn’t get a transcript for weeks, and the short text description is garbled with links running into the text. This follows on the tails of “webinars” lacking accessible content, including this keywords video (which does at least have subtitles, but there is no text document for screen readers, sellers with slow internet connections or limited data plans, sellers who have memory issues and need the text to refer back, etc.). For a company that claims to love diversity, they really hate having to accommodate it!
The media continues to trickle out pieces on the difficulties of selling on Etsy, including payment reserves and increased fees.
The Guardian called out Etsy for paying few taxes to the UK compared to total sales on the platform there. The site was also called out for allowing “substitute swastikas” to be listed and sold. (about ⅓ of those items have been taken down since.)
The office in Hudson, New York will be closing in September, since most of its employees already work for home.
They really, really want you to try their new seller app, which is still in beta
Etsy is setting up training for artisans in north-eastern India, including basic business skills and information on Etsy tools and policies.
SEO: GOOGLE & OTHER SEARCH ENGINES
If you liked Moz’s Beginner’s Guide to SEO but feel you moved beyond it, you will probably love Moz’s Professional’s Guide to SEO.
A Google Core Update started rolling out on May 25, the first since November. It finished June 9. Analysis by Sistrix shows it impacted low-quality sites, and some large ecommerce sites such as Amazon, eBay and Etsy made big gains, while some news and dictionary sites lost visibility. If you feel you have been affected by a Google update, be aware there are ways to tackle that.
The latest Google in-depth coverage of an SEO topic is on site maps, in podcast and transcript (pdf) form.
A study of 23 million internal links (from 1800 websites) showed that the pages with more internal links tended to get more clicks from Google as well, but overdoing it can reduce that traffic. That doesn’t prove that Google likes lots of internal links, but they do seem connected. The study also saw that using different anchor text for the same page link correlates with higher Google traffic.
Another study showed that Google might be hiding over half of your site’s keywords from the Search Console and even the API.
Keyword use for SEO has changed over the years; get caught up on what’s important in keyword research in 2022.
Looking for free SEO tools for both basic and advanced tasks? Search Engine Journal found 100 of them. If you are just into free Chrome extensions instead, here are 7 for SEO.
Remember the Google courses taught by experts that included SEO? Turns out they were giving really bad and outdated advice.
SEO software company Ahrefs has built its own search engine, called Yep. It’s going to have strong privacy features and will share revenue with content creators.
Search engine Brave is testing “Goggles”, which allows you to filter out search results you don’t want to see. [soft paywall]
SOCIAL MEDIA - All Aspects, By Site
General Who knew that social media sites had so many keyboard shortcuts? I somehow had no idea that you could use the number keys to skip ahead to the exact points in YouTube videos at 10 to 90%, in 10% increments.
There are a lot of articles out there on the best times to post on social media. This one looks at more than one study and tells you how to add your own past experience into the mix as well. Covering YouTube, Twitter, LinkedIn, TikTok, Facebook and Instagram.
Facebook (includes relevant general news from Meta) Meta has changed the rules for listing products in Facebook and Instagram shops as of July 18; Liz from Value Added Resource covers the basics here. They include no links in descriptions and having a description that differs from the title.
Facebook’s algorithm wants to be more like TikTok, by showing more popular content from people you don’t follow. Messenger is also going to be reincorporated with Facebook.
If you are tired of the usual post formats on Facebook, try a carousel post next time. The article has lots of screenshots showing how to set one up.
Meta is introducing new creator tools for monetizing content, for both Facebook and Instagram.
Instagram See the Facebook/Meta topic above for some things that also affect Instagram.
Instagram users spend about 20% of their time on the app watching video, so getting more people to watch yours could really increase your traffic.
LinkedIn Confused about using LinkedIn to post content? Here are 10 great tips to make it successful.
You can now start a newsletter through LinkedIn on company or other pages.
In case you missed it, you can now add a website link to your LinkedIn profile (or if not yet, very soon).
Pinterest Hubspot updated its “Ultimate Guide to Pinterest Marketing”, with advice on how to get seen and how to best use a business account.
The Idea pins on Pinterest can now be used as ads. They allow video and music.
Snapchat Snapchat now has a direct integration with eBay, to share listings on Snap.
There’s also a new paid subscription service that gives users more tools for $3.99 monthly.
TikTok TikTok is again under fire for gathering data from users and letting China’s government access it all, so the FCC told Apple and Google to remove the app from its stores.
TikTok is testing monthly subscriptions for creators, apparently to compete with Twitch.
WooCommerce and TikTok have a new integration; you can sync your WooCommerce products to your TikTok ads [text & short video].
How do TikTok hashtags work? Don’t forget the count in your 300 character total.
Twitter Looks like Elon Musk isn’t buying Twitter after all.
Here are short summaries of 31 Twitter tools you might find helpful. I always use Tweetdeck, and try to check my Twitter Analytics at least once a week.
Twitter now has a shopping integration with Shopify.
As if it didn’t have enough bad press lately, Twitter also was fined $150 million by the FTC for using phone numbers and email addresses to target ads.
Twitter’s long form content feature, “Notes”, is currently in beta testing.
YouTube   YouTube Shorts are quite popular, according to the platform. At least 75% of logged-in members watch them per month.

Moreover, online shopping is often cheaper than shopping in stores. You can find the same products and brands at cheaper prices if you shop online. Most importantly, though, online shopping allows you to find items that are not available in stores. This is great for people who want to buy unique or rare products. Finally, online shoppers can be sure that the items they purchase are authentic. Many times, counterfeit products are available online. By buying items online, you can be sure that you're getting the real thing.
How To Shop at Stores
There are a number of ways to shop for clothes, shoes, and other items without leaving home. You can use online shopping platforms like Amazon or eBay, or you can visit local stores in person. Online shopping is the fastest and most convenient way to shop. You can find the exact items you're looking for and place your orders quickly. Plus, you can read reviews of the products before deciding whether to buy them. If you want to buy items in person, the best places to do so are department stores and Macy's. Department stores have a wide variety of clothing and shoe options, and Macy's has a wide selection of home goods. Whether you shop online or in person, be sure to read the product descriptions carefully before making a purchase. Make sure you know what size you need to order, and be careful not to order anything too small or too large.
Cons of Online Shopping
1. One of the cons of shopping online is that you can't see or touch the items you are buying. 2. Another con of shopping online is that you may not be able to get a refund if you decide you don't want the product. 3. You also risk not being able to get the item if it's out of stock. 4. Last, but not least, you may have to pay shipping costs if you don't live near a store.

You can have your goods delivered in two ways:
Standard post - 7-15 working days for dispatch: 5 $ (Free Shipping Slovakia ) It depends on the weight of the goods
FedEx: $ 30
If you have goods of a higher value, only the FedEX option will remain available to you. The reason why only this option remains is that the price of the goods is higher, the goods are heavier, and the company wants to transport them safely directly to you in the shortest possible time. It usually depends on the weight of the goods, if it is too large, only the FedEX option will remain. I believe that this is understandable since GPM Racing wants to provide quality services ... 👍👍👍👍👍
