Empty everything out;
hold fast to your stillness.

In the pursuit of learning, every day something is acquired. In the pursuit of Tao, every day something is dropped. Less and less is done until non-action is achieved. When nothing is done, nothing is left undone. The world is ruled by letting things take their course.

"The valley spirit never dies; It is the woman, primal mother. Her gateway is the root of heaven and Earth. It is like a veil barely seen. Use it; it will never fail." ~ Lao Tsu, 'Tao te Ching'

The Need to Win
When an archer is shooting for nothing
He has all his skill.
If he shoots for a brass buckle
He is already nervous.
If he shoots for a prize of gold
He goes blind
Or sees two targets-
He is out of his mind!
His skill has not changed. But the prize
Divides him. He cares,
He thinks more of winning
Than of shooting-
And, the need to win
Drains him of power.

The well-established cannot be uprooted. The well-grasped does not slip away. Generation after generation carries out the ancestor worship without break.
Cultivate it in yourself and virtue will be real. Cultivate it in the family and virtue will overflow. Cultivate it in the town and virtue will be abundant. Cultivate it in the world and virtue will be everywhere.
Therefore, take yourself and observe yourself. Take the family and observe the family. Take the town and observe the town. Take the country and observe the country. Take the world and observe the world.
How do I know the world as it is?
By this.

A question for anyone who is also a fan of Discworld and Type Moon. I’ve been reading Discworld since last December and just finished Going Postal and I’ve been trying to make servant profiles out of Discworld characters. I figure Rincewind would claim he’s a Caster, but would actually by a Rider with the Luggage as his mount and Noble Phantasm, plus he’d have a high luck rank. Maybe Vimes would be an Archer, on account of Men at Arms? I’m not sure what his NP would be.
