KZ Tandingan drops new song "Dito Ka Lang"
KZ Tandingan delivers a brand new soulful love song with “Dito Ka Lang” released under Star Music. She wrote and dedicated the song to her husband, singer TJ Monterde, when the latter was on tour abroad while KZ stayed in the country. “I rarely write happy love songs as KZ because feeling ko dati mawawala yung pagka-astig ko,” she explained. “Itong song na ito is the first baby of KZ as an artist…

Mentos's Say Hello Campaign (2018)
Mentos has launched their global campaign "Say Hello". As the primary bridge in making connections, Say Hello encourages people to disconnect from the online world and create new connections in the real world. Mentos wanted to create a localized version of the campaign. While Filipinos are generally friendly, Filipinos are not fond of saying hello.
Our creative team and I had brainstormed ideas to work on a concept that is well tailored to Filipinos and finding the truths from what prevents Filipinos in shying away from one another.
We landed on turning the local campaign into a song "Say Hello", showcasing common scenarios of the struggles of making new friendships in the Philippines and how to overcome the shyness with the help of Mentos. We also got two singers KZ Tandingan & Inigo Pascual, who are good friends in person.
I participated in conceptualizing ideas especially in the early stages before landing on a final concept, which include writing radio scripts & spiels (as part of the concept) and creating decks ready for pitching. I also took part in creating the flow for the music video and the art direction including the styling for the singers for photoshoots.

LATE-BREAKING NEWS: A Young Contestant in the PH, who was eventually swap with OPM Rock Band 'Bamboo' instead of 'KZ Tandigan' from The Voice Kids [#OneNETnewsEXCLUSIVE]
(Prepared by Rhayniel Saldasal Calimpong -- news editor and presenter of OneNETnews)
SANTA ROSA, LAGUNA -- A shocking turn of events after all the Original Pinoy Music (OPM) coaches facing one Laguna contestant in Blind Auditions of 'The Voice Kids: Philippines' on DWWX-TV 2's Kapamilya Channel: Manila last Sunday night (March 19th, 2023 -- Manila local time).
Shane Bernabe, a 12 y/o Pinay kid in Santa Rosa, Laguna, who was attending a personal pre-taped Blind Audition before the actual episode to the public in Quezon City, Metro Manila.
Tumblr media
An OPM classic in 2003 sang her version called "Dukha" by Aegis after wowing them with her performance and immediately turned emotional to herself as Bernabe introduces all Filipino coaches for the first time straight from Laguna.
Tumblr media
Between the coach choices of a Filipina singer and OPM rock band named Kristine Zhenie Lobrigas Tandingan & Bamboo Belardo Mañalac, her future of singing talent may end up for consequences and conflicts if she literally messed up by picking the wrong path.
Tumblr media
Bernabe tries to pick the Filipina singer (Tandigan) under the role of Team Supreme, but it turns out that she eventually switched to an OPM rock band (Mañalac) of Team Kawayan: "Matutulngan nyo po ako na ma-enhance ko po, yung talento nya... Ang talent ko po, si Coach Bamboo po", Bernabe said in Southern Tagalog dialect. She now declared the 12th member of the aforesaid team.
The reality singing competition originated from the Netherlands of RTL 4 in September 2010 where it all started before the American debut of 'The Voice' from NBC in late-April 2011. Here in our country, but not on the main format in late-May 2014, the kids' edition is ready to battle with 'The Voice Kids'.
Tumblr media
We contacted to Bernabe on our news team via FB Messenger to inquiring about switching Mañalac instead of Tandigan as directed to educate her in person, we hadn't heard it back as of this writing.
Tumblr media
These two individuals of OPM are at risk to choose between Tandigan and Mañalac. Both coaches ensuring Bernabe to keep it all fair and square without hitting a disqualification button or a delinquent singing coach, regardless to educate and producing themselves as a team in the studio before the actual battle begins.

PAROKYA NI EDGAR
Tumblr media
Parokya ni Edgar is a Philippine band formed in 1993. The band is known for its original rock novelty songs and often satirical covers of popular songs both foreign and local. The band is adept at playing in various musical genres. Parokya ni Edgar has been referred to by local media outlets and numerous award-giving bodies as "Pambansang Banda ng Pilipinas" (The National Band of the Philippines). Despite having "Edgar" in the band's name, none of the members are named Edgar. The band name's origin had been a subject of debate among fans as the band members had never given full confirmation. It was not until 2013 that Chito Miranda officially addressed it through a post on their Facebook page. The title "Parokya Ni Edgar" came from a joke a classmate named Bambi Cuna made during one of their high school classes. Sources state that the class subject was Filipino. When the teacher asked Cuna where Jose Rizal's fictional hero, Crisostomo Ibarra (in the novel Noli Me Tangere) was educated, it was said that Cuna made up a daft answer, "sa Parokya ni Edgar". Then-vocalist Jeric Estaco decided on impromptu to introduce the band as "Parokya ni Edgar" in their first live performance. From there, the band name just stuck.

Forever salty that this wasn’t the end credits song of Raya and the Last Dragon. Sorry, but this or Gabay by KZ Tandingan instead of the English version of Lead the Way would’ve been a much better representation of actual SEA people.

THERE IS A SONG FOR THAT: LISTEN TO THESE HIMIG HANDOG WINNERS THIS COMING VALENTINES DAY!
Valentine’s Day will never be the same for everyone. Some people are excited toward receiving stuffed toys, chocolate and roses, and surprises while there are some who just let the day pass and question the thought of cheesy gifts and over-priced dinner courses. But, there is one thing that can be shared by everyone on this special day – music. Whether that can be listening to love songs or break-up songs, there’s something on the playlist for everyone.
Here are the winners of Himig Handog – the country's premier song writing competition, through the years; songs that you can vibe with this love month:
IF YOU WERE NOT CHOSEN, LISTEN TO:
youtube
KUNG AKO NA LANG SANA (2002)
It was written by Soc Villanueva and was hailed as ABS-CBN Himig Handog Music Love Song Festival’s grand prize winner last 2002 and was performed by Bituin Escalante who was also awarded as the Best Interpreter. This is the perfect song to listen by people who experienced unrequited love and were crashed for not being chosen.
IF YOU ARE NOT YET READY TO COMMIT, LISTEN TO:
youtube
KAILAN KITA MAMAHALIN (2003)
Anna Fegi won the Grand Prize of  Himig Handog (2003) competition on the ABS-CBN network with the song "Kailan Kita Mamahalin" which was composed by Arnel De Pano. The song is about a person who likes someone but is unsure to give the person a chance because of their previous experiences in love. It is all about someone’s will to love and commit to another person, but not being able to do it because half of their heart is still afraid because of the pain, fear, and doubt.
IF YOUR RELATIONTSHIP IS STARTING TO DRIFT APART, LISTEN TO:
Tumblr media
ANONG NANYARI SA ATING DALAWA? (2013)
After 10 years, the competition made a successful comeback last 2013 and ended with "Anong Nangyari Sa Ating Dalawa" as the first place by Jovinor Tan and was interpreted by Aiza Seguerra. The song narrated the painful process of how some stories did not last forever and how it started to fall apart. It circulated on the person’s unanswered question as to want went wrong and who was to be blamed for what happened with their relationship.
IF YOU CANNOT DECIDE WHO TO CHOOSE, LISTEN TO:
youtube
MAHAL KO O MAHAL AKO (2014)
Composer Edwin Marollano bagged the competition’s grand prize last 2014.  KZ Tandingan was the chosen interpreter for Mahal Ko o Mahal Ako and also received the Favorite Interpreter Award. The said song is for those people who are stuck in a situation on who are they are going to choose – the person he/she likes or the person who loves him/her more? It was probably one of the most successful songs that were produced by Himig Handog because it was also used for several shows on ABS CBN like Nasaan Ka Nung Kailangan Kita and Love Thy Woman.
IF THINGS DIDNT GO THE WAY YOU PLANNED IT TO BE, LISTEN TO:
Tumblr media
DALAWANG LETRA (2016)
On the year 2016, "Dalawang Letra", a song entry composed by Pinoy Dream Academy alumnus Davey Langit and interpreted by Itchyworms band was named as the grand winner. With its feel good beat, you would not expect that the song is about a guy who had false hopes and expectations from a girl she is courting. The story is about a boy who thought that everything was cool with him and the girl she likes – only to find out in the end that they do not share the same feelings.
IF YOU ARE A HUGE FAN OF MOIRA, LISTEN TO:
Tumblr media
TITIBO-TIBO (2017)
Songwriter Libertine Amistoso won the grand prize last 2017 with her entry Titibo-tibo which was interpreted by Moira Dela Torre. Amistoso said that the song was based on her personal story and she also shared on one of her interviews that one of the reasons why she made this song is because she noticed that there are only few songs that are being produced for boyish women. However, a lot of people pointed out that there are some problematic views on the song. There were issues and criticisms saying that the song implies that being gay women is just a phase can be ‘cured’ and will eventually pass by.
IF YOURE STILL WAITING FOR THE RIGHT PERSON TO COME, LISTEN TO:
youtube
SA MGA BITUIN NALANG IBUBULONG (2018)
Sa Mga Bituin Nalang Ibubulong which was composed by Kyle Raphael Borbon, interpreted by JM de Guzman and performed by Jason Dy during the grand finals on ASAP was declared as Himig Handog 2018 Grand Winner. In a short film produced by Borbon on Youtube, he shared the story behind Sa Mga Bituin Nalang Ibubulong. He shared his realization that people are always in search for something that will be constant in their life but tend to forget those beautiful little things that they do already have. This is the perfect song to listen by those people who are still in search or who are still waiting for that one person.
IF YOU JUST WANT TO DANCE THE NIGHT AWAY, LISTEN TO:
youtube
MABAGAL (2019)
Dan Martel Simon Tañedo owned the Himig Handog 2019’s stage because aside from winning the grand prize for his song “Mabagal”, he also bagged all the special awards for the said event. Mabagal won the Listeners' Choice Award, MOR 101.9 Choice, MYX Best Music Video Choice Award, and the One Music Philippines Favorite Interpreter Choice Award for Daniel Padilla and Moira Dela Torre. If you are planning to surprise your partner with a simple date and just let your hearts beat with the music, this song is definitely a perfect choice to set the mood.
Last September 26, the Top 12 finalists of the Himig Handog 2020 were introduced via ABS-CBN social media platforms and the interpreters were revealed on October 24, 2020 The grand finals day for the said competition was yet to be announced.
Regardless of what situation you are in, there is always a perfect song to describe what you are feeling. You just need to embrace your heart’s beat and find that perfect rhythm.

KZ X SHANTI DOPE - IMPOSIBLE
[7.83]
Not a Shontelle cover...
Kylo Nocom: Quote from my father: the Philippines has "many great singers, very few good songs." So much of OPM is the adult-est of adult contemporary, a breed of ballads for talent show prospects and little else. KZ Tandingan obviously doesn't diverge from this demographic much; she's a winner of The X Factor Philippines, and she was a contestant on the same season of The Singer as Jessie J. "Imposible" succeeds not through mind-blowing innovation on the formula (though YouTube comments are very excited about how she's "breaking the Filipino ballad mold" and how this is a song "without the typical 'OMG di ako makamove on' theme") but rather that the vocal show-offness manages to be arranged into something magically, genuinely human. The new "Imposible" is a slight remix of a track from her 2017 Soul Supremacy, yet despite the lack of too many changes the difference in quality is clear: the live band drums have been replaced by a much more appealing low-end beat, alleviating the track of its turgid coffee shop qualities; instead of segueing into the original's breakdown of wordless melismas, teen rapper Shanti Dope joins to erase all except for a vocal transition that, for some reason, is only fully heard in the video cut. KZ displays an impressive vocal agility while rapping her verses and smoothly gliding through the three sections of the hook, each another layer of firmness in the face of infidelity. Her anger sees a partner in Shanti Dope, as he swiftly responds in a verse with a flow that sounds apt for its own song. Sure, it's all quite goofy sentiment, but there's something lovable about a song that's so reassured of its own quality, especially when backed by an arrangement of plush horns and bass. I've found this Disney soundtrack adjacent R&B to be suitable for calming my mind down, relaxing to the sounds of a home I've never been to. [8]
Nortey Dowuona: A ocean wave of bass is surfed by KZ as the open faced, glancing drums and rising droplets of synth piano are raised up by the looping, slipping flow of Shanti Dope as a flock of strings and horns swoop down to follow them, KZ laughing as Shanti tries to stop her from eating his hair. [8]
Jacob Sujin Kuppermann: The lyric is torn between longing nostalgia and a resigned sort of realism, and the music does much the same -- the keys and horns are warm and unplaceably retro, but the groove of the drums and guitar prevent it from falling into schmaltz. But the point of "Imposible" is in KZ's vocal performance, which holds melancholy and joy all at once. It's perfectly charming, the sort of performance you could stick anywhere and end up with a decent song. Fortunately, her accompaniment suits her -- even Shanti Dope's verse, though the weak link, is a nice counterpoint in its wordy ambivalence. [8]
Katherine St Asaph: Very potent Mya "Now or Never" sunniness, plus horns; goes on slightly too long, but sometimes summer's like that. [7]
Anjy Ou: The warmth of KZ's voice and the coffeeshop pop instrumental that's perked up by the spunky bassline and tempo make easy to forget that this is a breakup song. Then again, it's not the rending-your-heart type of breakup song, but the type of song for when you've finally put yourself back together. After you've cried your body weight in tears, you emerge from your heartbreak cocoon a beautiful new person, so confident and content that you can't even be bothered to cook up some angst for your deadbeat ex. Like a ray of sun in a darkened room. [8]
Joshua Lu: Emerging out of a medley of rainforest sounds, "Imposible" feels like it was discovered instead of created. Every syllable and beat feels carefully placed, and when tied together by KZ Tandingan's entangling vocals, they feel naturally assembled despite being so multifaceted. The song is at its most sublime during that chorus that unfurls like a blooming orchid, with every section undergirded by rich sonic layers: spurts of brass, a meaty bassline, piano keys, and wispy vocals that keep the song featherlight and ethereal. It's an upbeat smorgasbord of sounds, yet it still manages to sound effortless and utterly relaxing. [8]

Oh, bakit ba kailangan pang umalis?
Pakiusap lang na huwag ka nang lumihis
Tayo'y mag-usap, teka lang, ika'y huminto
Huwag mo 'kong iwan, aayusin natin 'to
Daling sabihin na ayaw mo na
Pero pinag-isipan mo ba?
- This Band (Kahit Ayaw mo Na)
Why, they probably even said the same things, “’Wag mo kong iwan, teka, ayusin natin ‘to.” aray!!.
