Alexandra Petri’s humor is on point regarding Kyrsten Sinema. Enjoy! 😂
Bad news! Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (newly minted I-Ariz.) reports that she is going to continue behaving in exactly the same way and having exactly the same values.
Anyone concerned that this new swerve toward independence would make her any less the human version of an eviction notice written in glitter gel pen can relax. Sinema will continue to serve up exactly the same quirks that we have come to know and … know, from her time as a Democratic senator.
From voting against raising the minimum wage with a cutesy thumbs-down, to impeding legislation to close corporate tax loopholes for unclear reasons, to generally waltzing through the Senate with her signature brand of cheese-grater-to-the-eardrum whimsy, we can expect more of the same! No longer being a Democrat will, in fact, alter nothing about her (this should come as a surprise, but less of a surprise than you wish it would). [...] Sinema will continue to be the self-crowned protagonist of the Senate, an AIM away status with really deep song lyrics in it that you probably wouldn’t really get. She is still a party of one, just as rAnDom as ever, and now everyone gets to celebrate that fact! [...] Anyone worried that now, legislating with her would be any less like “50 First Dates,” where each day you had to wake up and woo her anew, can stop their fretting. You do not need to put away the ukulele, or the private equity dollars, for that matter. Sinema is unaltered.
“Why, if nothing about your values or behavior is going to be different, would someone choose to do this unnecessary, attention-grabbing thing that will make lots of Senate business more annoying for the Democrats?” you might ask. But then you would see you had answered your own question: Kyrsten Sinema is behaving exactly as she always has.

CNN: Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell met earlier in the day with Texas Sen. John Cornyn and encouraged him to find middle ground on legislation in discussions with Democrats...
Everyone: Yay!
CNN: ...including Senator Kyrsten Sinema...
Everyone: Ah, god-fucking-dammit.

There’s a lot of handwringing in the traditional media about the end of the Senate moderate, now that quasi-Democrats Kyrsten Sinema and Joe Manchin, along with Republican Mitt Romney, have called it quits. Axios calls it “a series of crushing blows to Senate bipartisanship, hollowing out a centrist core that has suffered under years of intensifying polarization.” Politico laments that “The filibuster is in big trouble” with “two of its staunchest defenders” leaving.
Good fucking riddance.
Between Sinema and Manchin, all hope of the nation having nice things during the first two years of President Biden’s term, when Democrats held a majority in both the House and Senate, was crushed. They blocked or watered down all the good, transformative policies Biden and fellow Democrats proposed for the country.
Now the two biggest impediments to actual progress will be gone—if Democrats keep the Senate.
Emphasis mine

Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (Ariz.) said in interviews published Friday that she is switching her party affiliation from Democrat to independent, creating a post-midterm-election shake-up in the chamber.
Sinema told Politico that she doesn’t plan to change her voting behavior or join the Republican caucus.
“I don’t anticipate that anything will change about the Senate structure,” Sinema said. “I intend to show up to work, do the same work that I always do. I just intend to show up to work as an independent.”
Sinema also shared the news in interviews with CNN and the Arizona Republic.
With the move, Democrats will still control the Senate next year, but their hold could be more tenuous.
Following the midterms, the Senate caucus claimed 51 seats, including Sinema and two independents — Sens. Bernie Sanders (Vt.) and Angus King (Maine) — who caucus with the Democrats.
Sinema, a first-term senator who has broken with her party on some key issues, did not explicitly say she will continue to caucus with Democrats in the interview with CNN.
Her office did not immediately respond to questions from The Washington Post.
What a traitor to the party that got her elected in the first place! If there was any doubt that she wanted to sabotage the Democratic agenda in the Senate, it has been cleared up.

Why I Stopped Voting in National Elections
Tumblr media
Growing up I took the right to vote very seriously, and made it my business when I was of age to participate.
Though as I got older, I started to notice that matter which party was in power, relatively little changed for working people.
And even worse, one party spent its time time terrorizing people while the other complained about them doing so, while doing little to nothing to stop them (for instance, Row v. Wade was overturned earlier this year – June 22 – yet Democrats for years have been promised to codify it into law, yet didn't do anything, then acted surprised when Republicans did what they've promised to do for what must be decades.
The excuses for their enablers are legion, as long as nothing ever actually changes.
By the way, remember how Democrats and their supporters demonized Bernie Sanders for not being a Democrat?
Weird, they don't seem to be taking the same tact with Krysten Sinema.
