attentention broke kpop fans!! I gots a life hack for you
so I just subscribed to Doyoung's bubble. I am broke as a joke (having a 2 year old is expensive living on steroids) but here's how you can also be broke and subscribe.
@affectionate-at-heart here ya go!!
bear in mind, I have a samsung phone but for those of you that have apple, I will do my best to help.
also note that I will be talking in US dollars because that's the currency I use
this is not a sponsorship or anything I'm just broke and wanna help other broke fans
So you gotta download Google Opinion Rewards.
Samsung/Android users
this is what you're gonna see on the Google play store
Tumblr media
so utilize it!!!
once you get enough rewards, you make purchases in the google play store using your available balance.
if you attach your PayPal account to your playstore account then you can have those funds sent to your paypal account and you can then send it to your debit card or bank account after that.
note that if you connect your paypal, you have to wait to build up your rewards to about $2.40 or something like that whereas if you let it go straight to the playstore, you get the payment a few seconds after each survey you complete.
Apple users
it's pretty much the same for Apple
this is kinda how it's gonna look. naturally i can't show you exactly how it looks since I don't have an iPhone
Tumblr media
so you guys have to set it up to your paypal because that's the only way you're gonna get the rewards. it's also different because your payout will only come after each $2.40 or so that you earn
attn apple and android users
Google will pay you anywhere between 2 cents and a dollar. if you set up your location permissions, google will even send you surveys based on the general area you shop in like if you went to Target or wherever, they'll send surveys based on those. they also send them based on your google searches.
bear in mind sometimes the surveys come like crazy and sometimes there are dry spells. as a former iPhone user, I noticed that I did get way more surveys once I switched back to android.
also, I don't use Chrome. I use Microsoft edge on my phone
it's nicer for a few reasons but i noticed after i switched that i was sent 3 $1 dollar rewards in less than 2 days. i initially switched because i like using edge because it has a read aloud option so you can have the fics read to you and I like using it to catch my fic mistakes but anyway but was it coincidental that those $3 came after i swiched? idk but if it doesn't happen to you, don't come over here calling me a liar.
so good luck yall!!

since we are on the topic. Again no pressure to anyone buying stuff... you do you. Just there seems to be this idea that there is all or nothing with albums and I think that's not really right. For me personally: I like to own media. I am not a big fan of subscription services like Netflix and Spotify even though I do use both of them. Because I am accutely aware that I own nothing on there. With Spotify I am even granted access for free if I don't mind the adds which is nice because I like free music. But if I do decide to pay that still does not stop them from taking the songs I like down for various reasons. It has happened a few too many times where there are just holes in my playlist for this or that reason kpop and western music alike (which like fair if artists wanna renegotiate with spotify over their payout they should it's their music but at the same time hey hi I was listening to that so I am annoyed now). And so yeah if I like a song nowadays I will try to buy it legit off itunes - if I like a whole album I will try to buy the physical CD, and if I am broke... well nobody tell Baekhyun this but I was never gonna spend 60 bucks on his japanese solo debut so I youtube mp3 converted the songs and saved them to my computer and later burned them onto various mix cds i like to use in my car. The way I see it the capitalistic consumption aspect of kpop is really wild and I do not think you have to fully give into it but I also don't think you have to fully reject it. For instance I bought DVD box sets for shows I liked in case they ever vanish of netflix - I do not buy every show I ever watched just the ones meaningful to me. Kpop albums are the same. I will not buy every release. But if I have the means and I like the album sure I can buy a select few for myself and I have bought a few of them used without photocards because I do not care about the collection aspect of it I just want the music on the Disc. Having them is like having any form of media. Something no one can take away from me. If Stray Kids quit tomorrow and get into a legal battle and all their content gets taken off the official channels I will still own the 2 albums I bought and I will keep them until Chan himself breaks into my house and steals them off my shelf. So that's where I am coming from. Again nothing wrong with not wanting to buy albums. Just wanted to give my opinion on it basically
idk if you read the original ask about why i don’t buy albums but im not fundamentally against buying albums and i don’t have that all or nothing mindset that some people have (although i think those people are just part of a loud minority). it’s just not for me because i know that personally i’ll probably look at the photos once and then never look at them again. i also don’t have a cd player and don’t plan on buying one so i don’t have any use for a cd. there are plenty of reasons to want to an album and owning the physical copy of the music is certainly one of them! streaming services suck and i get not wanting to rely on them for your music. i’ve had songs i really love get taken down or even switched to a completely different version of the song and that wouldn’t happen if i owned the cd but that’s the trade off with streaming services. i prefer to save the money i would be spending on albums and put it towards concert tickets which is something i know i will love.

Would you be willing to date a kpop idol knowing what it comes when dating one?
hmmm the only thing that makes me hesitate is the body shaming culture in korea… (eastern asia in general) and idk if i could handle that also i’m chinese so ik netizens would have words ab that but legally i’d sign whatever the fuck they wanted me to. nda? absolutely. don’t even need a payout to keep my mouth shut i’d do it solely for the dick and honestly would probs do it in spite of the other stuff too

Yall. melon has a streaming monopoly over south korea but that doesn’t mean spotify is a better company. spotify ALSO is a predatory streaming service whose presence is so universal and user experience made so convenient that artists are pretty much forced to put their music on the platform for exposure.
spotify doesn’t pay artists a fixed price per song or download- it pays artists $0.0038 PER STREAM. you’d need to get 4 MILLION+ STREAMS PER MONTH to earn $1160 USD (which is the US monthly minimum wage). this negatively impacts indie artists who can’t afford a shitton of promotion! artists aren’t respected for the art they create; they’re basically compensated based on the amount of product placement that they can afford.
this money isn’t even being paid directly to the artist- the majority of the money goes to the label. the label determines how much goes to the writers, publishers, and THEN the artists.
"Sure, in the past, it may have been reasonable for the labels to take on large fees for distribution, but that's when it meant manufacturing tons of plastic and vinyl, and then shipping it to thousands of record stores around the globe. In this case, there's no manufacturing, and distribution is an "upload" button.”
spotify’s payment practice exacerbates any unfair treatment of artists under their labels- if you were forced into a contract with very low percentage payout for your music, then streams will give you pennies. many artists have said that the growing reliance of the music industry on streams rather than physical sales or music downloads is unsustainable for creators. see this petition by the Union of Musicians for artists get more reasonably compensated for their work on spotify.
in light of a lot of our favorite kpop songs being removed from spotify because of competing streaming giants, I want yall to reconsider your reliance on spotify (+ other streaming platforms) altogether. the convenience of artist discovery comes at the cost of their compensation. since spotify is unfairly compensating your fav artists, does it make sense for you to pay for spotify premium at all?
Streaming has irrefutably cheapened consumers’ value of music. if yall love that you can get all this music for $10 a month but balk at the idea of paying for a $10 album from your fav artist, think about if that’s actually fair to the artist. if you really want to monetarily support your favorite musicians, download their music (not on spotify). buy their physicals. go to their concerts. hell, some artists say they’d rather you PIRATE THEIR MUSIC than use a streaming platform.

The Entertainment Industry Crunch 2020 -2021
The entertainment industry worldwide will continue to be hit pretty bad due to COVID-19 along with other issues that will creep up later stemming from the virus and other problems unrelated to the virus. You’ll start to see many CEOs stepping down and just leaving before things get sour, or for those that stay, they may declare bankruptcy and/or keep their personal wealth fine and escape and/or commit suicide. There will be mass firings coming along and underpayment for artists and staff. Many movies/projects will be underfunded or put on hold because there are no more funds coming in.
Social media influencers will also see a huge decrease in their pay cheques. Fewer ad revenues being earned through their videos. Trust me. YouTube and other platforms are going to find ways to adjust their algorithm/payouts to youtubers etc. There will be many people unemployed who will try to go to streaming as a way to earn money or vlogging or doing lives. Increase in supply of streamers/vloggers etc means an oversaturated market, leading to lower pay for those people. Fewer ads and sponsorship mean less money to those vloggers etc too. No more travel? Then people’s photos/vlogs also tend to be more boring or limited for those that focus specifically on travel and food and shopping. (People will slowly stop buying non-essential items like makeup and fashion when people can’t even go out much. Who are you showing that stuff to? Lol. And for the people who have minimal savings/investments and spend all their money initially still on non-essential items/purchases, you will regret it later like 3 - 4 months down the road.)
We have already started to see artists and their labels try out “streaming live concerts”. Sometimes for free for users (for test runs most likely and to increase the artists’ brand image and to make the artists seem busy) for now. For streaming, you usually earn money from the view count tied to ad views, unless it’s pay per stream/subscription based. The payout/profit made from that is minimal compared to an actual concert/tour. It will get worse as more and more artists choose to provide these services. (See above with market saturation.) For pay per stream, mind you there will always be a few that purchase and then stream it for free for others, so it’s not really a good business model either. The ones where you stream and are under an agency, that is run like the Kpop model/contract, so that will fail. How kpop companies have been doing business (contracts b/t trainees etc) will fail.
Artists also rely on endorsing products/brands for their pay. You will start to see cuts in those as well. To be honest, the advertising industry is going to do terribly these years. Good luck to those working there. And the industry will also go through a big change to cope.
You’ll see some smaller labels likely downsizing or quitting all together or being bought out at a cheap price by another competitor. Actually a few big companies will also topple. Sort of like Lehman Brothers’ being eaten up by another bank. You will also start to see group disbanding near their end of their contract or beforehand, and seeing some members being shipped off to other labels (sold). You will see a surge in comebacks for the next month or two before many groups going into the frozen mode/hiatus/disbandment/military enlistment. You will see more artists trying to be vloggers/streamers to earn some extra income and doing more home related things ilke cooking, baking, drawing, sketching, playing music, chatting etc.
You will also start to see a few more “scandals” coming for artists (often with the support of the government). You will start to see the government hounding on some artists for not paying enough tax or for fraud or for illegally possessing/selling/doing drugs. Governments worldwide have overspent their budgets greatly. They are just printing money like water these days and handing them out and encouraging people to continue to spend/borrow with low interest rates. There are some advantages and long term disadvantages to their current strategies. Questions of whether those money were spent on humanitarian aid will surface later, give it a good 3 - 6 months for that to happen.
You will also have minimal chances of getting any refunds for any concert tickets, whether they are postponed or cancelled. These ticketing companies and the artists’ labels will hold your money hostage for as long as they can. Maybe some ticketing companies will liquidate before you can even get your money back.
You’ll see some artists getting divorces when the courts in many countries are back in session. You will also see celebrities selling their homes before the housing bubble comes in many places, A listers. A housing bubble is coming in many countries and it will pop soon, some as early as May 2020 and others later in 2021. Several celebrities will also declare bankruptcy due to poor returns on investments, mismanagement of money or being swindled by their managers/companies. You will see more lawsuits from celebrities against their labels/agencies.
Corruption will be another thing that’s highlighted from late 2020 - 2021. And watch for that inflation of everything. Prices of groceries are going to rise. Shipping rates going to increase. Plane ticket prices will increase too. Interest rates to your mortgages will also rise at a painful rate. Most people won’t be able to payback the seemingly free money given/lent to them. Some policies are done really poorly too (i.e. subsidizing $ to small businesses who have lost at least X% of business => there will be people who take advantage of this and purposely short term fire people or underreport business or underwork their businesses to get this benefit.)
Oh and bailouts for the entertainment industry? Maybe in some countries but where is that money coming from for the government? Printing more money? That’s not a good idea, but it will be often be done.

Dear virtual diary,
Today is November 17th and it was a happy day.
I started the day off quite busy working on my tasks. Halfway through my report, I saw updates of BTS arriving at the Airport for their flight to LA 🥺
Tumblr media
Lol they all looked super nice (face masks and all), I don’t know why I sincerely thought that I could meet and befriend them someday 😅 My delusion is through the roof, obvi. 🤦🏻‍♀️
Sooooo after they left, I finished the rest of my work. Before my shift ended, I had a meeting with my lead about my bonus and salary increase for FY21. Lo and behold, I got waaaaaay more than I expected. I’m not gonna be BTS level rich but it’s really high compared to what I thought I was gonna get… It’s too high that when the payout for this arrives, I will have earned back the money I spent on about 75% of my kpop collection.
To be completely honest, this hobby has dented my savings way too much that I’m trying to sell some items little by little to earn back a few coins 😅 It’s fun, of course, seeing which member I pull in the albums and I don’t have any regrets about that. I just have to learn how to control myself going forward so I don’t spend unnecessarily 😅
Gah, idk what this post ended up being. Hahahaha, i guess i just had a really good day today with all the news I received 😂

♠ & ✎ @ Narae's
Narae shrugs and grins. “Well, my parents were really cool people! I mean, my birth parents were nice too. They...uh...well, I do remember a little bit, but well, not much at this point. I liked spending time with my parents then, but y’know, we didn’t talk about it for a while.” she admitted truthfully, before straightening herself, “My parents are great people who help others that need it more- I know, because the nursing home is named after my uncle Jinon who’s not around anymore. He had ALS, and well, mum was really torn up when he passed on so she took whatever money we got from the payout and then built the nursing home! It’s been there ever since, and from there, they got lots of people to help. They’re hardly around, half the time, but hey, if I needed to look for them I know where to find them.”
At the mention of others, Narae scratches her head. “I guess I could talk about my aunt Ryeowon! She’s a really badass detective and fights crime even when she lost her hands. She always says I remind her a lot of my birth dad, whatever that means,” she jokes, though there is an air of confusion around her, “Most of the time we hang out together, she was the one who brought me to Kpop concerts and got me my first makeup kit. We’re really tight! My parents always hang out with my grandparents and uncle and aunt whenever we can, so we visit them really often too.”

i hope you dont mind me asking, but about your blog (not tumblr), does it cost a lot to keep the site up when you dont get a lot of traffic?
I do not mind you asking! (I’m guessing you’re thinkingabout starting up a blog of your own? In which case, good luck!) My answeris both yes and no, so let me explain my particular setup:
First off, my (legacy, no-longer-offered-at-those-prices) hostingpackage allows me to have an unlimited number of domain names (though I mustpay for the registration and privacy protections separately for each) under thesame account. Audrey’s Kdrama Blogis actually the third website I run. (The first is a defunct my-professional-namething that I haven’t touched since 2014 and that I’m contemplating turning intoa freelance portfolio-oriented site when I, you know, have the time and energyand drive to actually take freelancing seriously. The second is Rich in Color, a book blog focusing on YA booksby/about people of color and/or people from First/Native Nations).
So my kdrama blog technically only runs me an extra $30-ish/yearbecause the bulk of the cost—hosting—is already paid for. (I am currently contemplating upgrading thehosting package/switching providers because Rich in Color generates enoughtraffic—a little north of 4,000 hits/month over the last year, with lots ofimage-heavy content—that we occasionally hit our resources limit and all threesites come crashing down. Are my sites down or is my internet being a littleshit is a fun game to play. My kdrama blog averages less than half of that.) IfI split the cost of the hosting package between my two active sites, then itcosts about $75/year, provided I’m doing my math right. (I pay for the hosting intwo-year chunks, but the domain registration and privacy protection are yearlyrenewals.) So if I just had my kdrama site, that’d be about $150/year.
Overall, I don’t consider it a ton of money to pay out forall three sites, though it does make every other February a bit financially stressfulbecause I always forget when the hosting renewal is due until I get an email. However,if you meant to ask if I recoup the costs of running any of the sites, theanswer is no. XD
Rich in Color isn’t monetized at all (the four bloggers andone website guy have been working on that site, for free, for four years now),and while my kdrama site has affiliate links to iTunes and Amazon in the Kpop Friday posts, Ihave yet to make a cent off of either of them. (I did make a sale—once—in an affiliate link on my defunctmain site, but it netted me $1, and Amazon’s payment threshold was $10 lasttime I looked, so they’ve held on to that dollar for…three years now?) If I have made U.S. sales (because those arethe only ones that count) on iTunes or Amazon via my kdrama blog, I have yet tohit the absurdly low payout threshold for them. *shrugs*
If I ran ads, maybe that would be a different story, but Idon’t know. (Also, I hate ads.) As it is, I’m just spending money on hobbiesthat haven’t provided me any financial gain—just like all of my other hobbies. XD
Will that ever change? It’d be nice, but I’m not counting on it. People wouldhave to click on those links and buy something from those sites within 24 hourswithout clicking on someone else’saffiliate links in between for me to potentially get anything out of it.
TL;DR: I don’tthink it costs much, but I’m willing (and able) to throw down a couple hundred bucks everytwo years without hope of recovering any of it, so YMMV.

Day 4 of KOFFIA 2018: 'Stand By Me' will leave you in tears
'Stand By Me' was screened on the fourth day of the 9th annual Korean Film Festival in Australia in Melbourne. This is the seventh movie shown in week-long KOFFIA. Director: Bang Soo-in Cast: Lee Sun-jae, Jeong Ji-hoon Genre: Drama Synopsis: Deok-gu, a 7 year old boy, lives with his little sister Deok-hee and his grandfather in a country village. A few years ago, Deok-gu's father passed away in a traffic accident, and soon after, his mother ran away with her father's life insurance payout. Working part-time just in order to survive, the grandfather struggles to raise the kids, and it's not easy to buy even a small toy for Deok-gu. While Deok-gu prepares to enter elementary school, his grandfather discovers that he doesn't have much time left. Knowing that Deok-gu is too young to look after himself and his sister his grandfather prepares a present for his grandchildren that may be his last. Check out the trailer for 'Stand By Me' below! Review: Out of all the movies that I have watched so far for KOFFIA, 'Stand By Me' has definitely made me cry the most. It tells the story of how a grandfather struggles to raise his two young grandchildren. Even though the relationship between the eldest son and the grandfather is a bit rocky, the film ultimately shows the love between them. The heartbreaking moment at the end will undoubtedly leave anyone in tears. This movie explores the theme of the importance of family. Many characters make huge sacrifices for their loved ones, which shows the extent to which family members would go to out of love. My heart really went out to this family. The two children were deprived of many things due to their background, and the grandfather had to work really hard to raise his grandchildren. This was heartbreaking to watch, considering the grandfather's old age and declining health. Not only did it depict the struggles of reality, but it taught me to appreciate the little things in life. We often take our family and surroundings for granted. 'Stand By Me' taught me that family always comes first, no matter what. Despite all the difficulties that the characters have to endure, they will always prioritise family. The love between the two children and their grandfather is incredibly heartwarming, and will bring tears of joy to people's eyes.
