WLW MATCHING ICONS 🧚‍♂️🏳️‍🌈
Korrasami- both bisexual (from Avatar: Legend of Korra)
Catradora- both lesbian (from She-Ra and the Princesses of Power)
Harlivy- Harley is bisexual, Ivy is sapphic (From Harley Quinn, The Tv Series)
Lumity- Luz is bisexual, Amity is lesbian (From The Owl House)
Piltover’s Finest- both lesbian (From Arcane: League of Legends)
Edit: thank y’all so much for informing me that Ivy’s bi, this been knew. I’ve since reblogged it (found in notes) to update it with some bi Ivy icons. I’m also co-blogging @bi4bination, so don’t get it twisted; I def know that she’s bi and not just sapphic now

This isn't like a major complaint or anything but... It's hard not to feel a little bitter that Aladarius got a small canon acknowledgement but Gustholumule didn't (actually, shouldn't that be just gumatt or magus now?)
Like this mainly a me problem but I feel like MLM relationships get very little rep in animation and when we do, it's usually the Gay dad's trope. And that's fine, nothing wrong with showing it's ok to have two dad's, but it would be nice to show kids it's ok to like boys if you're a boy as well, you know? Like what was the last major MLM couple in animation? Benson & Troy from Kipo? There's Barney and Logs from Dead End which was good, but that's cancelled now.
So to give a precious moment of screen time to another two dad's (because Darius is definitely Hunter's adoptive father) just feels, a little unfair. I didn't need much, just Gus or Matt blushing or maybe holding hands would have been enough. Heck it doesn't even need to be those two, you have shown Edric with another guy, I would still take it.
WLW have gotten so much great rep in the last few years while MLM is begging for table scraps. And I have no issue with getting WLW, I love Catradora, Lumity, Korrasami, etc, and Lesbian, Bi, Pan Woman & girls deserve that rep too, it's just frustrating is all. I wish it didn't feel like we could only have one or the other.
Again, this isn't some black mark on TOH, it's still amazing and you can't get everything you want, but I just wish we could get at least one good show with a major MLM relationship (that isn't cancelled or shortened which is the norm nowadays) that isn't two dad's.

I am an adult, queer, trans person of color and my identity informs my media analysis.
I am focused on media featuring women, female relationships and queer/trans desire. I am not interested in a lot of popular cis mlm ships and content so this is probably not the place for your yaoi content :3
I do not appreciate purity discourse on my blog unless I encourage a conversation on my own terms. I am a perfectly capable person with two degrees in literature and arts and I can analyse my own media, thank you very much.
I will reblog criticism even on my favourite fandoms. if you don't want that, best not follow.
I love seeing butches, mascs and gnc lesbians and bisexuals in media. I interpret several characters from popular media as butch lesbians and speak about butchphobia. Please do not follow if you are a butchphobe. Btw, bisexuals do not owe you explanation for using butch and femme and do not speak over bisexuals and gatekeep queer history.
I like toxic media, dark romance and evil female characters. In particular, I LOVE toxic yuri but there are hard boundaries for me. I do not like racist dynamics, and I think toxic gl should be equally balanced- not in the sense of literal power dynamics, but that both sapphics should be equally crazy and it's not like a naive cinnamon roll x evil dommy mommy thing.
There are some ships I actively dislike, excluding the obvious pedo/incest/taboo ones so if you like any of the below, best steer clear:
akiangel, fiend harem, zennezu, giyushino, sanegiyu, akaren, eremika, mobuhan, pikuhan, aruannie, lawlightmane, kataang, maiko, zukka, zukki, tokka

here's the thing about 'queerbaiting', something I still think doesn't exist:
there are queer couples all over the place in media these days. most of them are traditionally sexy young adults, because most romance writing is about traditionally sexy young adults. but you tend to know what you're getting within a season or two. there's a distinct lack of queer slow burns in the traditional rom-com sense where you don't immediately know where it's going. if you've got a queer romance, then you've got a queer romance. most of the fanfare I see when something long-term goes canon is from 'animation lesbians': Catradora, Bubbleline, Korrasami, because the idea that animation is for kids (and Catradora's whole...deal) put their endgame in question.
but please consider: part of that is because in a M/F rom-com you know if they're devoting a lot of screen time to these two people interacting, that's your couple, and there's no doubt. the slow burn is HOW it's gonna happen, unless the show truly changes its direction halfway through, which is rare.
in a potential queer romance that doesn't immediately pay off, half the intrigue is sitting and wondering: if the writers realize what they're doing, if they're doing it on purpose, if this or that thing is symbolic or a hidden message, if that thing they said out loud is a joke or taking the possibility seriously. it's the ultimate parasocial 'does he like me or LIKE like me?' because it's baked into the experience itself that a little part of you believes it might not happen. I guarantee that there was never something with Jim and Pam or Jake and Amy where the actors/writers said something romantic about them in an interview and everyone went 'omg!! they were insane for this!!!' because there's nothing 'insane' about it, and there's nothing 'insane' about doing it for a queer couple either. we just don't EXPECT it yet.
the thing that makes a queer will-they-won't-they exciting for you is the exact thing that makes a queer will-they-won't-they potentially heartbreaking. I'm not saying it's bad to want it, just - understand that the reason you're reacting to That Very Intense Friendship and not the larger and larger offering of unambiguously canon queer media is because the potential 'taboo' of a queer pairing is like a mobius strip.
and half the time we're retrofitting a pairing. we want to ship, we find something shippable, we hunt for potential hints and dynamics accordingly. we are literally working in a different language than a lot of straight writers, and off a different set of endorphin rushes and emotional payoffs than a lot of straight viewers.
I can name maybe four shows that actually understood they had a queer fanbase and leaned into that fanbase while having no intention of paying it off. and almost all of those shows are like a decade old or at least started that long ago. some of them even clearly, vocally said they weren't writing a romance, people just didn't believe them or hoped they'd changed their minds. please name what you consider a clear example of queerbaiting that isn't Sherlock, Supernatural, Teen Wolf, idk maybe Gotham? (except does that even count if one of the pair is canon queer and the problem is they weren't taken seriously? I did not watch or Tumblr-osmose as much about Gotham.) and for whatever show you're naming, did they ever actually promise or even hint at queerness to begin with?
(I have remembered Loki after already posting this but I am like...torn on Loki. they said Loki would be bi and he is bi. him not getting with a man after being bi is not queerbaiting. it's a person being bisexual. and Disney being boring.)
I promise: OFMD didn't invent gay people, and there are shows on this earth that aren't Supernatural. I love hunting for whether they're 'actually gonna do it' as much as the next person, but understand why that hits a sweet spot that immediately canon queer relationships don't.

Some sapphic ships from shows I love/that have meant a lot to me.
Gosh, I temember being in high school sitting in the school cafeteria when the final episode of Legend of Korra dropped and watched as Korrasami became canon. It was revolutionary!
I remember last May, avoiding tumblr because of spoilers at work, staying up all night to watch the final She Ra season and they kissed! I never thought I would see a wlw couple become not only canon and kiss, but have their relationship be the core - the heart! - of a show.
I remember watching the Owl House and seeing Amity very obviously crush on Luz. See Luz, a bi girl, show interest in characters of multiple genders. As a lesbian in a relationship with a bi woman, seeing their budding relationship blossom and not being treated diferently than any other f/f relationship.

Why do you hate lesbians
please tell me how saying ‘she is not a lesbian’ makes me hate lesbians ?? asami’s literally bi. its canon.
the same goes for adora. you shouldnt be erasing canon lesbian representation because you think shes bisexual or straight. but i bet if i made the post about adora instead, people would still be coming into my inbox, hiding behind the anonymous filter and saying im biphobic.
dont accuse me of being lesbophobic. thats so pathetic.

and it’s easy to forget all of this. that this kind of representation we’re seeing in children’s cartoon isn’t something they can just make for free.
as regular people using tumblr and twitter and ao3 and ff.net, we can write and draw and make headcanons and ship whatever we want.
there’s no risk to us for doing this. there’s no risk for shippers drawing and writing lumity, catradora, korrasami, etc. we can do whatever we want. but getting this stuff on big networks? disney, nickelodeon, cartoon network, and FIGHTING for it when executive’s first reactions was probably audible groaning at the showrunners about the possible controversy they might get?
we need to start understanding that unlike them, there’s a huge risk to this.
Dana doesn’t get to just walk in and say “hey Disney i want to make a show and it’s gonna have a canon bi kid and a lesbian kid and they’re gonna develop their feelings on-camera,” and those execs just said “oh shit yeah that sounds awesome here’s the keys to the kingdom!” Dana has literally stated that without things like the rupphire wedding and that which came before there would BE no lumity. and for this victory, The Owl House has had it’s third season reduced to three special episodes, and the idea of s4 is so laughable at this point it will be a miracle to see it happen.
WE, the fandom, can produce this endlessly for free for ourselves without risk; I genuinely and sincerely wonder if Dana will ever be able to work with Disney again after this, i would not be surprised if they simply refuse to work with her after TOH ends. we forget that for these people, it comes with sacrifice and risk of professional ostracization. because WE do not sacrifice to make this content a reality we forget that people like Dana and Rebecca do.
for YEARS we have heard things about “ITS NOT PROGRESSIVE ENOUGH/TABLE SCRAPS.” fucking goddamn Lily Orchid even made a post that was like, ranking these shows and grading them based on “representation rep” and only giving TOH an A while giving everything else lower than a C and some of ya’ll ate it up like candy.
people are fighting for this and risking their careers because they CAN’T just be anonymous people on the internet to make it a reality. and it makes me happy that we’re FINALLY starting to acknowledge this, but not enough people seem to be aware of this. too many of ya’ll are still trying to make this some dick-measuring contest between lumity and everything that came before it, also because some aired around the same-ish time. it’s not. it’s really genuinely not.

petition to let a wlw character in a kids show say “i’m a lesbian” or “i’m bi” or “i’m pan.” cause i’ve noticed a trend where mlm in kids shows get to say “i’m gay” but sapphics kinda just get in a relationship or get a crush.
like, alex in jatp and benson in kipo got to have it stated outright that they’re gay. which is great! i cried both times and i have no intention of taking away from how groundbreaking that is. but then like let’s say, korrasami and catradora, none of those characters got to say “i’m gay.” or “i’m bi.” they just got put into a relationship and the viewers assume from there. so like. let sapphics exist and be sapphic without having to be in a relationship. i hope this made sense.

It's fun and all to poke at SN for their shitty ending but for real we need more good gays. The bi/lesbian relationships have flourished but with Voltron and now Supernatural it's an issue. We've really only seen background and side characters. I.e. Willow and Bo's dads. Let's root for 2021 to be for the gay/bi boys cause they're really getting fucked over.
People ask me why I ship so many girls but hell it's because there's really no actually canon bi/gay male couples in animation to the level of rupphire, bubbline, Korrasami, catradora etc.
