my korean apps
hello everyone :) in this post I want to share which apps I use to study korean on the go. I actually had around two dozen apps related to korean on my phone, but no person could use all of them together, so I limited it down to only 12 apps
of course, some of those I haven't used in ages, but I do think they're useful from time to time
Tumblr media Tumblr media
LingoDeer
I cannot stop raving about this app, their courses are so well thought through, they teach grammar well and the sample sentences are actually useful!
Memrise
there's nothing new about memrise, I use it because it has all 10 ttmik levels on there, with audio recordings and grammar explanations. @ whoever created that memrise course, I'll love you forever
NAVER dictionary
it's not just a dictionary, it has the papago translator integrated, there are podcasts, each day there's a "word of the day" and "global sentences" where you can learn not only a new sentence, but also view entire sample conversations
KORLINK
it's an app that compiles all ttmik pdf lessons
Beelinguapp
this app has many well known (short) stories and even fairytales which you can read in your native and target language side by side. if you want you can listen to the audio recordings as well, and even slow them down if you need
Grammar Haja
okay this app is amazing, it has nearly all grammar of the korean language, gives in-depth explanations and sample sentences. there's even a "confusing grammar" section where the difference between, well, confusing grammar points is explained
Hanji
you can type in a english or korean verb in any conjugation and it will not only give you the translation (they aren't always on point tho), but also all the possible conjugations for the verb. it includes all tenses, politeness levels and all possible suffixes
HiNative
HiNative allows you to ask questions about a country or a language to natives. you can phrase any question or use the options provided, such as 'does this sound natural', 'what's the difference between x and x' etc. you can even record your pronunciation or ask natives to send you a audio recording
HelloTalk
this app is mostly about language exchange, so making friends with natives or finding a studdy buddy. you can also post pictures and texts or read others public entries as reading / writing practice. if you want to meet up with someone you can enter your location and see who's near, but beware of the creeps that are on this app and stay safe
세종한국어 apps
these apps are provided by the king sejong institute foundation. there are different apps for different levels, but I downloaded the 회화 초급 and 문법 초급 (conversation and grammar for beginners) as well as the beginner to intermediate vocabulary app. I haven't really taken the time to go through the first two apps to check if there are basics that I still don't know by now, but I'm planning to check that once I have the time. so far I think these apps would be a really good way for beginners to ease into the language and learn the basics. they also provide mini games where you can test your knowledge
Tumblr media
that's it for now, I hope you enjoyed this little 'tour' of my korean apps. if you have any questions, feel free to leave a message in my ask :)
have a lovely day everyone 🌸🌺

Language apps test
I am dead set on learning a bunch of languages that I have been aiming for, no more excuses. For that very reason, here are a summary review of each one I’ve tried. (this post is forever updated for my own reference)
Duolingo - currently in use for Deutsch, Korean, Chinese, Esperanto, Greek and Arabic. First app I used for learning language. The practice sentences are baffling at times (the meat eats me??) but the League update they recently did made it motivational in a way. You see progress among your league of 30 people and the top 10 gets promoted! I’m all for healthy competitions, so I know I’m not alone in this sense.
Memrise - just started on this one for Korean. So far it has been okay. Can’t say much yet. This week I’ll be using the app exclusively to see how much I can get out of it.
HiNative - this app allows you to ask native speakers on how to pronounce words or if your sentences sound natural etc. I’m testing this out for Deutsch this week. Will update more soon.
iTalki - 1-on-1 practice/class with a fee of course. I don’t think I am at that level yet, so I plan on trying when my speaking is somewhat of an intermediate level.
Tandem - applied for a german tandem partner, gotta wait for the invite tho. Let’s get it~
Seemile
Lingodeer
Learn Korean-Grammar
Eggbun - this week test
Beelinguapp  - this week test
HelloTalk
KOKO
Naver Dictionary
KORLINK

ty for taking your time out to answer this :3
sending my best wishes and support ur way every day every night 25*8
~ 🐻 anon
hello hello!!! 🐻 ANON PLEASE- THAT’S SUCH A HUGE COMPLIMENT?? you flatter me hhhhh but thank you so much for your kind words it really means a lot to hear that someone thinks of me in such a nice way ;;
Tumblr media
i’m not sure if i can give you good tips on how to learn bc my korean is at an embarrassing level considering i’ve never actually learned it proper...but!!! i did find some resources that you and i can both try out hehe more under the cut!!
As mentioned in my earlier reply to a previous ask, I’ve been consuming kpop and kdrama for a really really long time so that was mainly what helped me to sort of gain some listening comprehension. Subtitles, translations and even song lyrics play a part! The only tip I can give you is to maybe pay a bit more attention to the translations and the actual words that are said and used? Again its not the best way to learn since we’re missing out on a lot of details like speech levels / honorifics and everything but the exposure will help allow you to be able to identify some commonly used words and phrases so that's a start (at least for me)! For reading hangul, I actually learnt it via a phone app called Memrise! I looked around and found some other free to use websites and applications that we can try:
[Apps]
1. Memrise (android | apple) 2. Duolingo  (android | apple) 3. LingoDeer (android | apple) 4. Learn Korean Phrases  (android | apple) 5. KORLINK (android only) 6. TenguGo Hangul  (android | apple) 7. Dongsa (android only) 8. EggBun  (android | apple)
[Websites]
1. How to Study Korean 2. Talk To Me In Korean 3. Coursera (First Step Korean by Yonsei University) 4. 90 Day Korean
Apart from Memrise, I’ve never got to try the others yet so I can’t give any reviews. I’ve taken courses via Coursera before! Not language ones tho but I think its a pretty decent platform so I’m happy to find out that there is a free basic korean course on there. There is a high chance I’ll try that hehe but yes you try some of these out too and see which one works best for you!! keep me updated!! ;u;
Tumblr media
p/s: the best wishes and support you’re sending every day and night 25/8 are all well received and they have been feeding me well thank you so much!!

Quarantined chronicles Day 4
10:13 - I've actually had a pretty good morning today. It's been great! I woke up at 5:30, and scrolled through Tumblr but my battery was low so I went back to sleep around 7 or smth. And then I had this weird was dream - I remember having a friend and the friend was dating this cute boy and I remember kissing the cute boy, but I remember asking her first and her giving me permission so was it like a poly relationship or?- anyways it was just rlly fucking weird and I loved it. Oh, before that I had this thought that someone was outside the window or someone was being murdered because I heard these loud sounds outside and my imagination went running. When I finally woke up again from my beautiful dream, I got up straight away. Like I jumped up. I went to the bathroom to pee, brush my teeth, skin care and all that- may I say that my skin look amazing today. It looks so clear, and smooth and shiny and I WANT to go outside and flaunt it but I can't bc these are quarantined chronicles not school chronicles. After I was done my skincare routine- and gawking at how clear it looks- I cleaned up some small messes in my room, made my brother and I' s bed- and he just ruined my sheets so I'll have to do that again. But I just feel so great so far, and I rlly don't want anything to ruin it today. Though, it probably will.
15:33 - speed run of everything that's happened in the last few hours - stray kids new song (check it out), breakfast, tangled the series, more tangled the series, finally finished and handed in my assignment due today, more tangled the series, lunch, chicken, ice cream, playing with my baby brother, more tangled the series, more playing, came downstairs, bullet journaling and YouTube and finally typing this. Yeah, it wasn't that interesting.
16:49 - y'all are gonna think I love my brothers with all my life cause I've been hanging out with them so much. Practised the keyboard and i found out THAT A STRAY KIDS SONG IS GONNA BE IN AN ANIME BOI IM SO HAPPY.
19:23 - i rode around on a small bike and bOi my thighs were kILLING me. Ps i only rode on it when i was playing with my other brother. I was also using KORLINK to study korean and it was actually teaching me a lot- but i got interrupted by ny brothers so im gonna go back to continue lesson 1. Also took a shower and shaved. I used a new razor and it wasnt really that great but i liked using it on my legs (even though it cut once, i didnt even realise anyways).

- 5 month old Luna is a mood.
Since July started I have been starting and most of my days on my email and in the whole 20 years of my existence, I have sent the most email these past 9 days and it is (super) socially draining than spending the day personally interacting with people, hahaha.
Anyways, it's Friday and sort of progress list for me this week:
human anatomy and physiology review - reviewed from the orientation, organization of the human body, cells, integumentary system and tissues
cardio-respiratory anatomy and physiology - read up chapter one (anatomy and physiology of the respiratory system)
Korean - korlink level 2, lessons 17-24 and level tests
Japanese - took a level test and surprisingly got pre-intermediate ?? haha, EdX moraic nasal, long vowels (hiragana) and a-wa (katakana)
been challenging myself to plank to a whole song and have been using Paint the Town, Dance on my own (loona) and Hotsauce (nct dream) as my plank songs, so far my longest this week was 2.07 minutes of 3.21 minutes of PTT, haha
will probably post my notes on these next week, didn't really get the chance to take photos because I forget at times hahaha
I hope you all have a good, restful weekend!!

day 2 and 3: language studies and a 6hrs afternoon class
-
1.25.22
— day 2/50
a significant thing from this day: my mom wants me to learn Spanish
her granddad is 1/2 Spanish, in mama's generation no one speaks Spanish anymore, my grandmother knows but didn't really use the language much, she and my mom + most of the relatives just speak in dialect (Pangasinense) esp when they talk about things they don't want us to understand hahaha. anw once I get to recall everything for Japanese and progress more on my current languages, I might study Spanish too :)
studied 2 lessons for Japanese
studied Korean with korlink
had a little catching up with my grandfather
started planning for a big project me and my family will be having hopefully to start coming to life in 3 months :) (we're really excited about this, i really, really hope and pray this pushes through very well)
-
01.26.22
— 3/50 days
had classes from 8am to 7:30pm... I thought our schedule's nice, only having 4 class days, but wow. Especially after our fundamentals class from 1:30-7:30pm, even having several breaks in between, my head hurt hahaha.
We didn't even have the full length class for data Analytics in the morning, just an orientation 🥴 (that class is really nice for a minor, very helpful for thesis next year).
today:
7:30-9:00 data Analytics orientation
9-12nn nap (in preparation for a whole 6hrs of class 😴)
1:30-7:30pm fundamentals class
took down additional lecture notes for frt
made a yt playlist for frt
continued making my planner for the semester as rest after class
gave myself a nice warm bath and lathered myself in efficascent oil because my back has been killing me for a few days now

as for japanese, i'm currently studying the files for week 4's vocabulary and grammar tips, which i'm glad i already read up on months, days, dates as i was already familiar with the topic, i didn't have a hard time with it much.

— Korean + some apps/courses
finally studied the scheduled subject !!! also here's some mingyu photos i got off pinterest again while taking a break from talking to various people for the task my sister gave me because being an introvert with social anxiety... my mind was all jittery talking with people so yeah, looked through some photos of mingyu and other biases of mine haha.
and yeah, i downloaded a number of apps that might help me with studying korean!! since I'm on my last week with my second coursera course — learn to speak korean 1 by Yonsei university (the first course I took was first step korean, also by Yonsei university).
To help me with correcting my mistakes with my transcriptions of talk to me in Korean's podcast real life korean conversations for beginners, I use naver papago and kgrammar (it has tools for analyzing of sentences/phrases, spelling check, a conversational type of translator and daily words, grammar). And during times when I'm just lying on my bed or couch, I use eggbun and teuida (teuida is more of speaking, I use it more when I'm alone, haha) then once I get done with coursera, I'll be using more of korlink again + I'll be trying beelingual and basic korean (it displays daily words/learnings on your lockscreen, apparently. I have yet to set it up, haha)
Well, this was lengthy, but I was reading through app suggestions posts that may help with studying korean and honestly grateful for those posts, haha.
