I realize that this was initially retconned in the new 52, but I just assumed that now that we are out of the new 52 the ntt backrounds would be canon again for Kory… instead I have to sit into 3 pages that completely invalidate some of Korys core themes for what?!? Why can’t we be free of Lodells retcons!?!?

WHAT R U DOING?!? Kory and Koms relationship is interesting because inherently doomed to happen, created by factors beyond their control. Kom, born hated, was pushed into being the Tamaranian equivalent of “child that was not embraced by the village grows up to want to burn it down”. Kory, born heir apparent, takes Koms throne. How are you supposed to come to terms with being hated by your parents and your people as a young child?!? She takes it out on Kory as she seems the only acceptable target but it only makes her only more hated by her own sister. It was an inevitable self propagating cycle… Making them always co-rulers changes the entire narrative!!

They created sibling rivalries do you even care?!!?!??

The tragedy of they being they only two who can understand what each other went through but they will never be able to at the same time.

Kom being the only character who on panel tells Kory what she needs to hear - that Korys parents pretend to sacrifice when it’s Kory who is being sacrificed! All they have done in exchange for her undying loyalty was sell her to slavery and then exchange her for a political marriage - both arguably having other solutions that would have only required more bravery or political sacrifice (said by character explicitly on panel!)

Kom - older and more experienced is the only one who can recognize just how much their parents fucked them up. But Kory can’t because her parents being correct is the only way she can justify the years she spend in slavery. To bring the cycle full circle Kom becomes Korys only acceptable target

Kom couldn’t blame her parents. Kory still can’t. Myand’r and Luand’r lurk large in the life of their childen…

You don’t need to kill Korys parents to have things in common with Dick? You can parallel their needs to do their duty for their parents sometimes against their own well-being!! You want to talk more parellels? Korys backstory is packed with parellels to the other titans!

What happends to both Kory and Joey having parents who hurt them, and instead of ever apologizing always double down on how hurting them is the only and best option?? What happens to Korys seeing herself when Raven exchanging herself so trigon will leave earth alone!?

Nakir&Shari (i'm dating the daughter of the man who almost killed dad)

Nakir's introduction of Shari to his parents generated quite a mix of emotions his mother was really excited cause Nakir never really introduced anyone to them only having short flings here and there, and of all girls a princess like WOWIE!... that exact thing didn't sit well with his father, like he has nothing against Shari but he can't help but think of the fact that she's the daughter of king Dakonos that almost 30 years prior almost killed him on the battlefield (Jarrah took it personally back then and even aimed for a pay back rematch but he's over it now..yet it's still unpleasant thinking about it )

upon seing the pic on the discord server a friend immediately went:So pravaal told them he was the girl? and i replied as it follows: yeah in the end he revealed that, sure Jarrah was a bit weh about it and did his fair share of protective dad warnings to pravaal but nothing out of the ordinary, he's just glad uri broke up with his old gf who he found annoying as hell(as everyone did)... also he was like... he was happy when he was with "her" so it's chill if he's gonna be happy again plus the usual if you hurt him i hurt you sorta things but again i na """chill"" way (cause he knows Uri is a spoiled asshole and even if he doesn't want him to suffer, he thinks he's been pampered and spoiled by his mom and life in general a bit too much and having some "bad experiences" could help him mature) unlike the overprotective x100 "i hate you and your dad, don't you dare to get close to my daughter" way he does with Sadiq and Nadira.....The overall meeting went smoothly cause they both already knew Pravaal (and even before the coming out and the reveal they suspected there was something going on between the two in a way or another) and trust that he's a good match up for their big chicken son

you can see this as a Romeo and Juliet situation, two youngsters in love with each other while their families (their dads) can't stand eachother. Jarrah and Malik,Sadiq's father, have a very old and lasting rivalry going on, it began with Malik bullying Jarrah during his first academy years, the latter would later get revenge in a post graduation duel breaking the nose of the first and from there on mockeries and fists would fly everytime they met so you can imagine how unpleasant the idea of becoming kind of related would be for these two, who still carry on a petty rivalry like two middle schoolers. Roya and Bianca, the moms, are actually encouraging the union as they believe they should follow their hearts instead of getting stopped by their childish fathers( who have actively tried to sabotage the union multiple times) Random fact: sadiq's wearing an uniform instead of casual clothes cause it's notmyown oc but @mikness' together with his mother Roya

nem and vace do NOT end up together at any point in my doc!sol au, for a couple reasons:

• that relationship is bad. yes, i am obsessed with the problematic one. but nem deserves better, and vace is going to be better, but not in a relationship

• it is, admittedly, in the way of solivaceous

• the catalyst event for nem being vulnerable to vace is kom’s death (hence why it’s the only unpreventable one). but i say screw that, kom’s living. doc!sol goes full triage, thanks the wormhole they wanted to learn old-fashioned medicine (non-medbed), and definitely almost dies doing it.

nem still does lean into being a soldier. kom ends up permanently injured (not sure how yet, maybe paraplegia and a years-long side project between sol, instance, and tang to create a cybernetic frame that can read and act on the nervous system) and she wants to take up the mantle so he doesn’t feel guilty over not being able to protect the colony. (it wouldn’t work. but also this man absolutely makes someone in engineering [congruence? yeah, probably] soup up a wheelchair for him, steals a gun from the garrison, and gets out there anyway)

nem and vace do end up as good friends! kom actually has a good influence on vace, both because he gets (begrudging) respect and because he gives a shithead teenager the shovel talk about the whole colony within a month of helios landing. vace kind of sees him like a big brother, too.

also nem loves women. she would make a tiktok using a sound that just screams about how much she loves women while shaking the camera so violently you only get about two cumulative seconds of her crazy eyes in between the rapid flipping of very dark bedrooom at 2 AM and multicolored fairy lights strung along the walls.
