Partner and I were very responsible- we went to the region's autumn Reptile Expo, and only left with one betta.

I always recommend people visit expos and trade shows, even if the primary focus is only tangentially related to your interests. I don't keep herps and I'm a novice with terrariums, but we like to go to gawk at what vendors bring and I peruse the horticulture offerings while Partner looks at the curiosities. Most people specialize in more than one thing, so it's like a treasure hunt.

First row I hit the jackpot- a reptile vendor who bred bettas on the side.

I must have spent fifteen minutes chatting with the owner and trying to decide which one I wanted. I was torn between a bicolor rosetail and a veiltail with coloring I'd never seen before. Since I couldn't decide I asked my partner to pick. They weren't interested in either of those, instead they were completely taken with a tiny male koi plakat shoved to the side in the first row. Not one I would have chosen but then I did hand the reins over.

Thus Mulberry entered our lives.

Frankly I think he should have been a cull. He's runty compared to the other stock the vendor was offering, and his mouth doesn't seem to be constructed quite right. He struggles to grab food. Truly a scrungly little man.

Then two days into quarantine I can't find the little fucker. It's a 5.5 tank. It's tightly covered. Filled with plants but not so dense I can't find a fish. Not behind the small internal filter, either. That left the filter itself. But there was no reason for him to enter, and it would be a tight fit even for a wee plakat. I opened the top and started pulling out parts anyway. Yep, saw a flash of scales in the murk.

Genius boy had somehow gotten past the two media plates in front and was in the main body, unable to escape. Brilliant little man.

My new betta Vienna has been moved to her 5.5 gallon tank and is acclimating very well. I wasn't planning on getting a betta from a chain pet store but I was there for unrelated things and she was exactly what I was looking for so I went against my better judgment and brought her home 😔 Her tank has live plans and driftwood as well as ramshorn snails and I think that'll be the only thing aside from maybe more plants that will go in this tank lol

#In the future I would like to upgrade her to a 10 gallon but she's pretty small so this tank will suffice for now #I recently dismantled a 55 gallon community tank as it had been deteriorating due to me not maintaining it #Which is completely on me I was just very busy with other animals and the big sad and didn't keep a close-up eye on it #So Vienna will probably be the only fish I have for the foreseeable future #fishblr #fish #betta #betta fish #betta tank #betta splendens #Koi Betta #aquarium #bettablr #Vienna the Betta

day 12 iss small fish !!! a koi betta (my FAVSS i want one so badd…) harlequin rasboras and cardinal tetras ^_^!! both harlequins and tetras r schooling fish and you’d need more together than i drew aaand i dont think theyd ever be that close to a betta if they happened to be in the same tank but SHHHH trust. i just wanted to draw them all together :3.

Yesterday I welcomed home two beautiful Koi Bettas. I already have had several bettas, and currently have one male Blue Mustard Betta (Steve).

These two beauties are named Phoebe and Not Phoebe (after Phoebe Buffay from the T.V series F.R.I.E.N.D.S).

I saw them in Pet Smart, and after doing some extensive research I decided they would make good neighbors for Steve!

I love their colours and how they are sentimental to Taylor's Koi fish guitar.

Hello :) This is my first post! meet Mars, named after pretty guardian Sailor Mars.

He’s a happy and beautiful boy, very curious and playful. Loves the attention so I’ve gotten some great pictures so far. I’ve only had him for about a month and I’ve already seen 3 bubble nests. I’m excited to see how his personality develops from here.
