🔬🌿 Diving Deeper into the Intricacies of Bioenergetics 🌿🔬
Hey there, science enthusiasts and curious minds! Today, we're embarking on a journey into the fascinating realm of bioenergetics, where the magic of energy transformation in living organisms unfolds. Buckle up because we're about to delve into the nitty-gritty of this captivating field!
The Energy Currency: ATP
At the heart of bioenergetics lies adenosine triphosphate (ATP), often dubbed the "energy currency" of cells. It's like the dollars in your wallet, except cells use ATP to facilitate all sorts of biochemical processes. Think of it as the universal energy medium that powers life itself.
The Energy Factory: Cellular Respiration
Now, let's talk about how ATP is made. In eukaryotic organisms like us, cellular respiration is the superstar process. It comprises glycolysis, the citric acid cycle (Krebs cycle), and oxidative phosphorylation. During these metabolic pathways, energy is extracted from organic molecules, such as glucose, and transformed into ATP. It's like a power plant for the cell, with each step meticulously orchestrated.
Expenditure and ATP Hydrolysis
But cells aren't just about making energy; they're also extravagant spenders. When cells perform work or carry out essential functions, they hydrolyze ATP into adenosine diphosphate (ADP) and inorganic phosphate (Pi). This process releases energy that fuels various cellular activities, from muscle contractions to active transport across cell membranes. It's like using cash to pay for services, and ATP is the bank where cells withdraw their energy.
Thermodynamics and Bioenergetics
Now, let's get a bit nerdy with thermodynamics. Bioenergetics pays homage to the laws of thermodynamics, particularly focusing on entropy and enthalpy. These principles help explain how energy flows within biological systems and how it's harnessed and regulated to keep life ticking. It's a bit like maintaining a delicate energy balance, ensuring that the cellular economy remains stable.
References to Dive Deeper
If you're eager to explore bioenergetics further, here are some fantastic references to get your intellectual gears turning:
1. "Molecular Cell Biology" by Lodish et al.
2. "Molecular Biology of the Cell" by Alberts et al.
3. "Bioenergetics 4" by Nicholls and Ferguson.
So, there you have it! Bioenergetics is like the electrifying symphony of life, with ATP as the conductor. The next time you marvel at the complexity of living organisms, remember that it's all powered by the awe-inspiring world of bioenergetics! 🌿🔬✨ #

On February 18th 1957, Kenyan freedom fighter, Dedan Kimathi, was executed by the British. He led the KLFA (MauMau) revolution against the brutal British occupation of his country.
Dedan Kimathi, was hanged at dawn at Kamiti, just over 48 hours after his leave of appeal had been rejected by the Privy Council.
He was executed on a charge of carrying a revolver, which, under the Emergency Regulations, was punishable by death.
The basis of Kimathi's request for leave of appeal at the Privy Council was that he was on his way to surrender, and was not in fact "captured."
He also revealed that he was taking in his arms as was required of those who surrendered. The judges, however, rejected this without hearing his lawyer, describing them as "lies”.
Kimathi went calmly to his death and was described by a senior prison official who was present at the execution as a model prisoner. "To the last he was composed and quiet," he said.
At his own request, a Roman Catholic priest spent the whole night with him in his cell.
Although many African leaders were hesistant to condemn the execution out of fear of being labelled Mau Mau sympathisers, anti colonial activists from different parts of the world were quite forthright in their criticism.
“I don’t lead terrorists. I lead Africans who want their self government and land.” — D. Kimathi

“Yo no dirijo terroristas. Dirijo a los africanos que quieren su propio gobierno y su tierra”. — D. Kimathi

Legends and myths about trees
Celtic beliefs in trees (10)
Ph for Phagos (Beech) - all year around
Stars: Mercury, Saturn; Gender: female; Element: air, earth; Patrons: Ogma, Thoth, Hermes, Mercurius, Odin, Kronos; Symbols: learning + knowledge, wisdom + understanding, prosperity
The beech tree is a tree of learning, a symbol of prosperity and success. When walking through a beech forest, the large trees with the smooth, silver-grey bark and the curves created by the trunk and branches are like a living elephant or rhinoceros, giving you a sense of relief all year round.
In spring, the beech forests are bright and breezy, and the bluebells are in full bloom, the contrast between the dazzling young leaf colours and the blue announces that 'spring has come'. In spring, the beech spreads soft, translucent, golden-green leaves with a fan-like shape, and in summer these leaves eventually become hard and dark green in colour, changing to yellow, reddish brown or golden in autumn. It is an essential tree for the forest.
The beech tree symbolises the written word, human innate wisdom and ancient knowledge. In olden times, writing was written on beech wood, and the first books were made by binding thinly cut beech wood. Before that, they were scrolls.
The beech tree is associated with deities of wisdom, knowledge and intelligence, such as Odin in Norse mythology, who brought us the runes, or the inventor of the Ogham script; the great warrior of the Tuatha Dé Danann; the monstrous strength of the eighty oxen; and the Celtic god, the sun-faced Ogma. And because of its connection with the creation of the secret code alphabet, it is also a symbol of divination and prophecy.

NEW Blog Post Series…. 🚩
Red Flag Symbols for Christians #2
My vacation to California had me get a little behind on my posts for this series. Lol Actually my time in Cali reminded me of another symbol used by many modern artists. This post will focus on the spiritual meanings of the Moth. Both the Chinese Lunar moth and the Death’s Head Hawk moth are two types of moths being used and seen in current witchcraft-related, pagan and gothic art.
Tumblr media
From wikiHow: moth symbolism
Moths can represent change, transformation, and growth. Many cultures see moths as symbols of death and believe they bring messages from the afterlife. Others believe that moths symbolize your intuition and encourage you to trust your inner wisdom.
Tumblr media
The Chinese lunar moth is used heavily along side the moon phases image and specific plants like mushroom and other herbal plants. Simply with the name of the moth makes sense why wiccans love them so much. Lunar equal “luna” is spanish for “moon”. These specific types of moth artwork are mainly for nature worshipers, pagans, witches and wiccans Other symbols to be aware of like in the second image is the “third eye” at the bottom, the snakes (x2), crystals and of course, the moon on top. The “third eye” usually represents the ability to see beyond/what’s ahead/foreseeing. Crystals are believed to posses the power to heal, a trend that’s been building in popularity in our society. This believe has already been debunck by science; future blog post to come.
Tumblr media
Just to point out in the image above, many artists who use moths and etc. symbols in their artwork are sometimes feminists and naturalists as well. Which is why the witch girl in the image above has slightly hairy arms and legs; they choose not to shave. I personally don’t see anything wrong with this choice, but I have noticed the pattern in women who choose to do this are making a conscous statement towards society.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now onto the Death’s Head Hawk moth which symbolizes as an omen of death. This believe isn’t limited to this specific and rarely seen moth, but moths in many cultures have this similar folklore that foreshadows death. We knew moth follow the moon light at night and dwells is dark corners during the day. In many tribal cultures moths, and sometimes butteries, are able to cross into the spirit realm and return with messages for their ancestors. As Christians, we know this doesn’t match with our beliefs and what’s written in God’s Word.
Hope this blog post was helpful to you, my brothers in sisters in Christ! I continue to strive and post on this blog series every Wednesday. Bless You All, and have a Wonderful Merry Christmas!!!! 🎄💖 ✝️
