Part 1 - Canon Divergence

To celebrate @klarolineauseason I’ve piled together all the fics I know and love into one place, to share with y’all. I’ve tried to include the well-known classics in the fandom that I adore, but also some more obscure ones. Hopefully there are some you haven’t read!

Deal of a Lifetime by Anya-Paradox

One-shot. Caroline meets Klaus when she’s still human, while on vacation with her father. They have a summer fling while she’s still sixteen, and a few years later after going their separate ways, she finds out ‘Nick’ is actually Klaus Mikaelson, the same guy who’s trying to kill her friends. I loved reading this fic, as it captures all the innocence of Caroline at sweet sixteen and falling for her first love, but also the character development that comes in their years apart, and how Caroline is a little older, a little wiser when she meets Klaus next. She’s in love with Klaus, but she’s not about to let him walk all over her. She’s worth being put first. And she knows it.

O’Holy Night by BelleMorte180 / @bellemorte180

One-shot. Another ‘Caroline meets Klaus early’ au. However, this time she’s a freshly turned vampire, confused and alone, forced to relive everything Damon did to her as the compulsion slowly wears off now she’s no longer human. Klaus finds her before her friends do, and it changes everything. At first, Caroline is aware she’s just a pawn in Klaus’ game, but as they spend more time with each other and Caroline learns of what Klaus wants - and he of who Caroline Forbes really is - this begins to change. It’s a beautifully crafted fic, and I loved how it slowly had them fall for each other, even though it’s only around 30k. And hey, because it’s one of Erica’s fics, you know Damon will get his due in the end. 😈

Their Nightly Ritual by bellyamywinchester

Multichap. Complete. Now this? This has to be my favourite canon divergence fic EVER. Dear god, it’s so good. It’s quite an old fic now, and it may not be a 500k enemies to lovers slowburn that you read at 3am, but it gives just as much serotonin for your brain. Set right after 5x11, Caroline is at college and Klaus has kept his promise to walk away and never see her again. But we all know Klaus - he’ll find a loophole if there is one. And fortunately for us, the loophole turns out to be he promised she would never see him ever again - he never specified about never hearing his voice again. And so, begins an exchange of nightly phone calls where Klaus asks Caroline about her day. Both of them are never even in the same room throughout the entire fic, but somehow this author has captured every nuanced aspect of Klaus and Caroline’s relationship, the insecurities on both sides, the struggle Caroline has in allowing herself to love Klaus and the easy love Klaus bestows her in contrast. It’s just a masterpiece. Go read it.

One-shot. This is so beautifully written, honestly fills me with joy. The concept and ideas behind this fic are so original too - it’s certainly nothing I’ve seen before. Fresh from leaving Stefan at the alter, Caroline spends her wedding day in a graveyard, burying her past life of make-pretend. Klaus is there, simply because she asked him to be, like always, and the fic ends hopefully, promising a new beginning for our favourite otp.

The Way Back by Cupcakemolotov / @cupcakemolotov

Two-shot. Complete. Another treasure. Having spent a near-distant future with Klaus only for it to end in tragedy, Caroline ends up sent back into the past by Bonnie to fix things before they go so very wrong. Little does she know, she wasn’t the only one sent back in time.

Multichap. Complete. Probably one you’ve already read as its a fandom classic, but amazing all the same. Caroline falls in love with Klaus without knowing he’s Klaus, and as always, things spiral from there.

Give Me Love and it’s follow up Love Interruption by idiot-wind89

Multichap. Complete. A classic canon divergence au in the sense it diverges directly from canon, Caroline and Klaus becoming endgame. To this day, I still vividly remember a scene in this fic where Klaus takes Caroline horse riding, when she’s supposed to be distracting him from her friends’ plots. Which is why I blame this author entirely for my obsession to read as many fics with these two interacting with horses, or riding together once more.

Til I Tasted You by KiryTheStitchWitch / @kirythestitchwitch

Multichap. Recently completed! Bonnie completes a spell to find Caroline’s mate, both of them expecting it to be Tyler and well - you already know how this goes. There is a magnificent quote from Klaus in this fic that honestly had me swooning: “As if I could be jealous of a boy who has no concept of what it is like to touch the sun and then spend a millennium looking for daylight in every strangers’ face.” Like. Take a moment to let those words sink in. Like dear god. Klaus you smooth motherfucker - thank you Kiry, for forever ruining my expectations for men, I hope you’re proud.

Blood and a Quick Murder (and isn’t this how it always is?) by KS_Caster / @ks-caster

One-shot. Has to be one of my favourite one-shots in the fandom, due to its originality and the utter brilliance of it all. Through magical hijinks, Caroline ends up human again and goes straight to Klaus, asking for his blood and a quick murder - hers. This fic showcases the differences between Caroline and her friends, how they always hated vamprism while she never regretted becoming a vampire, despite it not being her choice. It also sees Caroline finally arrive in New Orleans. What more could we ask for?

Red Queen by KS_Caster / @ks-caster

Multichap & Series. Part 3 of the series is still a WIP, but parts 1 & 2 are complete and waiting to be read. This was probably one of the first klaroline fics I read, and it still holds up now, years later. I love it immensely, mostly because it explores so much with the characters. There’s some in depth lore of the author’s own making, Klaus doesn’t shy away from his werewolf side which I ADORE OKAY and Caroline is pretty badass too, seeing through Silas’ lies. Klaus also puts Caroline first, seeking The Cure for her in order to save her from dying, rather than for his own ends. It’s an amazing series, highly recommend.

Multichap. Complete. This is a lovely what if au for 3x21. The Mystic Falls gang succeeds in dropping Klaus at the bottom of the ocean, and while her friends celebrate the victory, all Caroline can feel is a paralysing wrongness to it all. So she calls Rebekah, and then she plans a rescue. Absolutely love the idea of this one, go check it out.

The Stubborn Grace of Being Loved Regardless by perfectpro / @helpless-in-sleep

One-shot. I will scream about this fic til the end of my days and then I will scream some more because it’s too fucking perfect, seriously Jenn. How did you come up with this piece of pure perfection? Unlike in canon, Caroline doesn’t become a vampire in this fic and instead becomes sidelined from her little group of friends, kept out of the loop about supernatural drama. Which is probably for the best, as there is no way in hell I could see this Caroline Forbes spending any time in close proximity with Damon Salvatore. This fic explores the full extent of what he did to her while she was human, and at it’s heart, the one-shot is about Caroline’s trauma and recovery. Along the way, she falls for Klaus yes, and - slight spoiler here - there may even be some Damon murder involved offscreen, but’s it’s Caroline’s story told here, first and foremost. And it’s beautiful, so bloody beautiful. Never have I read a fic so beautifully crafted with such fine detail and respect. Honestly, leaves me lost for words.

Wayfarer by perfectpro / @helpless-in-sleep

One-shot. The perfect little fic to cure the woes canon bestowed us. Years in the future, Caroline is travelling the world. But travelling alone isn’t what she expected it to be, and Paris certainly isn’t wowing her either. Almost deciding to call it quits and leave, her mind is changed when a familiar face appears. Perfect for solidifying these two are endgame, this fic is short but packs a great hit all the same.

she’s a rainbow by sunnydaisy / @little-miss-sunny-daisy

One-shot. Original!Caroline. The relationship built between Klaus and Caroline in this just incredible. They’ve been a couple for centuries, but like all relationships, this one has its struggles, and they work through it and come out stronger than ever. The fic is also so much fun. The Mystic Falls gang are oblivious to who Klaus and Caroline really are, which leads to some great moments.

Wisteria by sunnydaisy / @little-miss-sunny-daisy

One-shot. Another ‘Caroline meets Klaus early’ au, and probably my absolute favourite of the trope. This fic is packed with so much fluff and make-you-smile moments you’ll be grinning madly by the end. Carolines flees to the coast to escape Mystic Falls for a few days, saddened by Matt’s rejection and still coming to terms with being a vampire herself. In a bar, she meets Klaus, unaware he is also a vampire, and they hit off from there. It’s so cute guys, I just can’t. She tries to compel him and Klaus goes along with it because you can tell he finds her adorable, this blond baby vampire full of sunshine and- god. Just read it before I start crying again over the perfectness of it all.

Ghost by sunshineandfangs / @sunshineandfangs and it’s sequel Help me, please!

One-shot, or technically a two-shot if you count its sequel. This is my other favourite one-shot of the fandom. IT. IS. AMAZING. Like seriously, drop dead, scream into your pillow a-m-a-z-i-n-g. Go read it. Caroline dies when still human, killed by Damon. She watches as Elena softens to her murderer, as Bonnie helps him and Stefan turns into a similar monster. Hate and anger festers and grows, until she’s strong enough to interact with the world she’s barred from. As a ghost, she meets Klaus, and with any loyalty she held for her friends lost the day they left her to die, she helps him break his curse. Spooky, rife with betrayal and thus revenge, this is a great read for fellow chaos demons like myself.

Pet Wolf by these-dreams-go-on / @these-dreams-go-on

Multichap. WIP. Come for the klaroline, stay for the wolf!klaus who is a menace and an absolute delight. Seriously. The chapters where Klaus is stuck in his werewolf form and Caroline unknowingly adopts him as her pet is pure genius and the true highlight of this fic. He chews her dad’s shoes. He growls at boys. He watches freakin TV, fur and all. Asdfghjkl- It’s amazing go read it.

Wicked Schemes by willowaus

Multichap. Complete. A classic. Caroline inherits some badass powers from a forgotten relative and is pulled into the supernatural political shitstorm that is New Orleans. Looks like the city finally has its new Queen.

...My god that was a lot of recs. You can tell canon divergence is my favourite au, heh. Now go forth and devour them!

Klaroline Drabble: Urban Legend

For the @klarolineauseason Week 2 - All Human

Summary: "I hate myself for saying this, but I have to agree with Little Miss Sunshine," Caroline cuts in. "This is Whitmore. Nothing ever happens here. Least of all a possession that leads to a massacre of slasher movie proportions."

"Thank you, love," Klaus returns brightly. "Very flattering to be validated by you."

"Bite me, Klaus."

"Find me later, after my shift, and we can see to it," comes the shameless rejoinder.

[Or: Caroline tries to navigate life in college having the worst roommate ever, a douchebag who cannot take a hint and a nosy journalist whom she's definitely not attracted to. Never in a million years.]

College AU with an ensemble cast and a slight inspiration in Urban Legend (the movie). Not a horror story though. Please, mind the A/N.

Note

I get being upset about Bonnie not being invited to the Mikaelson ball, but here you go once again, blaming Caroline for a choice the writer's made, something she had no part of. People are getting weird AF with their anti Caroline stance and it's getting ridiculous.

Here you go once again, putting words I didn't say in my mouth.

Does it upset me that Bonnie wasn't invited to the ball? Yes. Does Caroline being there make me mad? No. Do I think she shouldn't have come? Yes, I certainly think so.

I complained about Caroline and Matt being there because plot wise it was absolutely stupid and it made no sense. They didn't add absolutely nothing to the events developing there, and their presence was completely unneeded: Caroline and Matt were there solely because of Klaus and Rebekah/delena. This was the moment the showrunners decided to start writing klaroline, exclusively and only because the fans liked their first scene together, so they decided to have her going to the ball just to have their "romance" developing, which made no sense for her at all;

Klaus literally tried to kill her a few episodes prior, he had Tyler bite her on her birthday leaving her on the brink of death and then he showed up to heal her. Where is her self-preservation? Wasn't she scared of him at all?

It's funny to me that she only accepted to go because of Rebekah inviting Matt. Did she thought he was in potential danger? Did she decide to go to try to protect him? I get she was worried about her friend, but this is slightly strange.

Matt was just there for Rebekah and to make Damon and Elena fight because of his altercation with Kol, nothing else, and his presence and the issue he caused wasn't that serious because they made up an episode later. Why would he go? He was a human on a house full of the oldest vampires to ever live, and he was aware of this. I'm aware Matt isn't the brightest person to walk the earth, but everybody knows a human shouldn't be around bloodthirsty vampires.

Again, just stupid. Caroline and Matt shouldn't have been at the ball, that's all. Elena and the Salvatore going made sense: she was the doppelgänger, Stefan had story with them and Damon wouldn't allow her to go anywhere without any of them.

Bonnie, however, had every single reason to be there:

She was Ayana's descendant.

Esther would want to meet a Bennett witch, seeing she was best friends with one once and she knew they were powerful allies.

She had been more close than anyone to killing Klaus: the fact that he didn't try to seduce her or try to kill her was ooc, especially because he befriended witches before klaroline came in.

Kol loved witches and this bitch knows everything about everyone. It surprises me that he didn't try to get her on his side or at least use her to try to take down any member of his family.

The Bennett bloodline is far more powerful in magic terms than any other family could ever be, their blood was needed for like half of the most powerful spells and the fact that not a single person thought about getting on Bonnie's good side is completely stupid.

What is ridiculous is that people dickride 3x14 to hell because of the fanservice. I love this episode, but calling out it's flaws it's not a bad thing.

how season 4 of tvd should have gone (klaroline edition):

- caroline breaks up with tyler near the start of the season like the writers should’ve done

- she partly blames klaus for their breakup (rome wasn’t built in a day okay)

- but then after having the best date w him at the miss mystic thing in exchange for a hybrid she starts to warm up to him (+ the date didn’t end when it did, instead of going to talk to stefan straight away after, she comes home late because she spent most of the evening sat talking with klaus - and she’ll totally deny it - but she was so caught up in talking to him that she barely realised everyone from the event was long gone and they were still sat on that bench together) he totally offers to drop her off home like the gentleman he is btw but she says no and decides she’s spent enough time w klaus for the day

- cue confused and conflicted caroline

- tyler and hayley still try and kill klaus w the hybrid plot but caroline isn’t involved bc she’s not w tyler anymore. oh and klaus kills hayley instead of making the stupidest decision of his life

- klaroline still have their spat though before going to find bonnie and the 12 witches and that whole “you’re in need of comfort” scene plays out the same too bc they wouldn’t be klaroline without the back and forth arguing and conflicting feelings and denial

- but when the gilberts kill kol and trap klaus inside of the house, caroline’s a lot more gentle about it

- but klaus still ends up biting her bc despite the fact they’re not together tyler would still probably care about her to some degree and he’d ofc be running his mouth so klaus would feel like he’d have to get back at him

- and i could never want to get rid of the scene where he chooses her over revenge against tyler (and realises how important caroline is to him)

- that all plays out as normal but instead of her leaving the next day as if nothing happened i’d like to think she stays w klaus until the barrier is lifted. he’s definitely shocked by that decision (and so is she tbh but her bleeding heart is making the choice on that one and despite her head telling her to go leave and help her friends who hate the guy she’s currently sat with, she can’t help listening to her heart that’s demanding she stay sat with him)

- and they both totally start out rlly snarky with each other bc they have issues let’s be honest. but she eases up and becomes a lot softer when he first mentions kol to her since his death.

- and he becomes a lot softer every time he looks at her bloodied shirt from where he staked her bc while he’s not one to feel guilt or regret, caroline manages to bring out these new feelings within him

- and by the time the barrier is lifted they both feel a lot more calm. they practically melted into the other’s presence. and they know a lot more about each other. like caroline could now list 10 historical figures that klaus has met and how his encounters w them ended (some a bit bloody). and klaus could tell you all the things caroline enjoys about being a vampire (bc she finally admitted that she prefers herself this way after a gentle nudge from klaus) - although he could probably tell you that before their conversation

- but life gets in the way again and caroline goes to deal w her friends (who question her endlessly about where she’s been but don’t actually care about the answer beyond annoyance at her bc they’re busy discussing what they’re gonna do next about the cure)

- but if caroline finds herself not running away the next time she’s alone at the grill and klaus goes up to her, she can’t blame anything except for this weird longing she has to talk to him or just spend time with him.

- so she does

- klaus 100% goes home all giddy and blushing after spending time w caroline for something that’s not a distraction, or a plot, or life or death, but just them two and nothing else in between.

- caroline on the other hand goes home expecting to freak out and feel angry with herself or disappointed but struggles to bc how could she when she feels so light and relaxed for the first time in ages (if she’s really being honest with herself, for the first time since she spent the day with klaus at the miss mystic event)

- cue caroline not putting up w as much of non humanity elena’s BS because she has klaus whispering in her ear half the time to not just sit there and take it. and that it’s not her issue to worry about elena to the point of coddling or treat her as something fragile.

- when silas gets in klaus’ head most of that goes the same. i mean they’d probably be a lot more friendly w each other (?) but they’d still have that big argument w the whole “don’t turn your back on me” bc again it’s a big point for klaroline in my mind

- but it definitely ends a lot different in my head (with a kiss, or a make out session bc all that tension and then relief at none of the pain being real has to go somewhere)

- the clean up would be a tad more awkward after bc caroline would NOT want to address the kissing, but she doesn’t immediately run out on him after which says tons

- him thanking her having more longing eye contact than it did in the show (somehow), and caroline’s reaction to the “friends, then?” line from klaus having a MUCH more different meaning. bc they’d just done something far beyond friendly. but she’s not going to be the first to address it… yet

I don’t absolutely despise klaroline, although I definitely do not like them either, but one of the most stupid things in the entirety of the originals is Klaus flirting with Caroline while Hayley and hope is abducted. Would you consider this to be a writing mistake or just Klaus being Klaus? I’ve always wondered if he focused more on finding them if he’d of been able to save Hayley in time.

I've made an entire tik tok about this because I despised this episode since the first time I saw it. I laid out all of the dumb decisions Klaus made in the episode in the tik tok as well as a lengthy caption. You can see that here.

Klaus in Season 5 is terribly written. He may not be my favorite character and I don't like klaroline but everything about him and them in Season 5 was wrong.

Starting with Rebekah calling Caroline to go find Klaus. That made no sense. Why wouldn't Freya or Marcel go find him. They are his family. Marcel has known him for 200 years. It's not like Rebekah thought he wouldn't harm her, he had nearly killed Caroline multiple times. Marcel was upgraded, he would have been the best choice to go and talk some sense into Klaus. Or Freya who could have gone and yelled at him for abandoning Hope.

Just the fact that Klaus was ignoring Hope for five years made no sense to me. I get he was terrified that she would hate him after what she saw, but the end of Season 3 and through Season 4, we began to see a version of Klaus that was actually putting Hope's needs first. This abandonment was a complete regression back to his Season 2 narcissism. Also, Hope not continuing to astral project to find him made no sense. She is a powerful witch, if Caroline could track him down, so could Hope.

Now onto the day of the event.

My biggest gripe is that they are literally driving everywhere. Klaus is the fastest being, why is he taking an SUV that can go max 180 mph? Why did they stop at a rest stop to get coffee? Exhaustion doesn't affect them that way. They are literally flirting and joking around as Hope and Hayley are missing. Sure at this point they may not have realized how serious it was, but Klaus would never have allowed himself to be distracted like that. It was bad writing purely for ratings.

Klaus would rip apart the world to save both Hayley and Hope. Showing him doing anything less is a disservice to his character.

Good writing, writing that is true to Klaus' character would have shown him turning into a wolf to track Hope down. Ansel tells Klaus in Season 2 that he was drawn to Klaus as a child and even to Hope because wolves are drawn to their family. It would have been so satisfying to finally watch Klaus at one with his wolf side in order to find Hope.

It also was so out of character to see Klaus walking slowly to the house. Hayley was actively having her wolf side suppressed and fighting Greta. Klaus would have heard this from miles away and sped as fast as possible to the house. Instead we see him walking at a slow human speed. Caroline is also easily snuck up on by Elijah and Klaus doesn't immediately snap his neck? True-to-character Klaus would have ripped out Elijah's heart to save Hope and Hayley. After all, Elijah would have been fine.

Very little of Season 5 was not just poor writing. There were scenes and plot points that directly contradict established canon. The reason the writing was so bad is because the writers were killing Hayley, Elijah, and Klaus off no matter what. Hayley's death was 1000% preventable. Hayley was a hybrid and a member of the strongest family but was somehow killed by a 100 year old vamp? Say what you will about Klaus, but Klaus definitely would have saved her no matter what. She never should have died but Julie wanted Legacies to have an orphaned Hope and didn't care to make the writing good.

Klaroline WIP Wednesday

Current title: Should of Called Dibs

Current Summary: Its Mystic Falls 25 year High School reunion. Somethings have changed, somethings are eternal.

This is a little something from an idea thats been at me for a while. Advice is welcome!

"Oh my god is that Klaus!?”

Elena angrily whispers to Damon, even though she was surrounded by vampires, who could hear everything. Caroline sighs. she starts to psych herself up “OK Forbes you prepared for this. “ She rolls her shoulders back,and turns to face Eleana with her best Miss Mystic Falls smile, she gives Elena a brief hug and peck on the cheek. “ Elena! It is so good to see you. You look amazing. How are the kids? “ Caroline gushes.

“Really, Caroline pleasantries?”, her body's shaking with anger. “You're gonna ignore it? You brought Klaus with you.” Elena seethes, wide eyes filled with betrayal. Carloine tries to calm Elena down. “No ‘Lena, I was just waiting until we weren't at a public airport. “ Croline says as she gestures around.

Elena glares. She looks between the Originals and Caroline.

“let's talk on the way to the gym. We need your help setting up, Care. We'll drive separately.” she glares at the originals and walks away. Damon follows, sneering at Caroline.

“Its your call sweetheart,” Klaus says. Looking towards the retreating doppelgänger with detest. Rebekah snorts with clear disdain.

Caroline sighs “C’mon, I'll meet you at the gym and it'll be better if I talk to her first separately anyways. Caroline squeezes Klaus's hand then follows Elena.

Having to run to catch up.

Klaus looks back at Rebekah as they wait for baggage.

“Are you ready for this weekend,Nik? Because I have a feeling that that is not the last time, she’ll be walking away from you. Rebekah mocks as she turns away. She points to the servant to grab the baggage and heads to the car. Klaus growls, hands wring through his curls, down his face. He knew this weekend would be a test he's just not sure for who.

Caroline got in the back seat. Knowing Klaus will remember to get her bags along with his own.

Damon is glaring at her through the rearview mirror. Caroline glares right back.

“ Klaus!”

“I know 'lena"

"Klaus!” Elena repeats. As though just saying the name says everything she needs to. Caroline supposes it does.

Caroline regrets not warning Elena beforehand. At the time, she thought it better than Elena figuring out an excuse to cancel. But based on Elena's face, she might have underestimated Elena's lingering anger from the events in high-school.

“ I'm sorry to spring this on you, Elena. I know you will never forgive Klaus, and I'm not asking you too. All I'm asking is for you to accept we're together”

Elena scoffs. “ It's not that simple! He killed Jenna! Plus I’m human again!How do I not know he isn't here to kidnap and steal my blood!!” Elena fires back.

“I know it isn't simple! And I know he's done a lot of bad things but it's been 25 years already!" Carlone argues back.

"Plus, all of us have done some really bad things, including you, Elena.” Caroline mentions softly at the end.

“What are you even talking about right now?” Elena exclaims, angrily running her hands through her hair

“Let's just get to the gym, and I can talk to everyone all at once. “ Caroline says

“Whatever , Care.” Elena sighs, Turning up the radio and staring straight ahead.

Caroline leans her head back and closes her eyes.

“ It's gonna be a long weekend” Caroline thinks.

June 5th, Week 1: Canon Divergence

Week 1 is dedicated to the fix-it fics, to writers and creators alike declaring fuck canon - now I’m doing it my way. What would happen if Caroline finally grabbed a ticket to New Orleans? Decades down the line, did a certain pair meet in Paris, Rome and Tokyo? What hidden scenes did the show not give us? Perhaps Forbes changed to Mikaelson… Make it a happily ever after or completely derail canon and make it messy - there are things such as humanity switches after all.

June 12th, Week 2: All Human

All Human is a week dedicated to the fics where we take out the supernatural and bring Klaus and Caroline into a more familiar environment. Are they childhood sweethearts who reconnect in later years? Has Klaus always held a sweet spot for his best friend? Or perhaps they’re ex’s, unable to stay apart for long and reuniting in an avalanche of passion. As long as they’re human, and there’s no vampirish fangs in sight, anything goes.

June 19th, Week 3: Creatures

A week for fans of fantasy and folklore, it’s time to imagine Klaus and Caroline as any creature you desire - just make sure it’s not canon. Perhaps two werewolf Alpha rivals find out they have more in common than they realised, or Klaus leans too far over the ship’s edge to glimpse the blonde beauty beneath the waters below. Maybe you even decide to add a dash of enemies to lovers, and watch as an angel falls madly in love with the devil...

June 26th, Week 4: Historical

All of human history, great cities and genuine beauty - where do you want to start? Week 4 is focused solely on any historical au of your desire, and don’t worry if you crossover with other week themes! Are Klaus and Caroline human, dancing the night away in the roaring 1920s Chicago? Are they promised to be wed, a viking warrior as fierce as her betrothed? You could make it spooky, and delve into the dark arts of witchcraft or run from the undead - or you could dance with the devil and court with character death. Perhaps either Klaus and Caroline are serial killers, or both? What about villains seeking world domination? Or a lost lover haunting their beloved… Remember: there are no rules. Takes place after season five events but not really canon to anything. No baby plot. Klaroline were in secret relationship. CAROLINE IS A HETERIC!!

{ I do not own the the vampire dairies characters, that goes back to the original creators. This plot is my own and done all by me. } EXPLICIT CONTENT

𝐌𝐎𝐓𝐈𝐕𝐄 ˏˋ°•*⁀➷

THE REMEMBERING. The fact that it has been less than ten minutes of our beloved couple being separated yet here they are remembering all of the moments as couples that they spent here at this same location they are in.

Here are the couple sitting on top of a rooftop in silence. Trying to process what is currently happening to them. Feeling betrayed, hurt, confused, angry. Caroline glances up at her boyfriend or now ex-boyfriend with watery eyes.

"You aren't being fair, you know that."

Klaus did not say anything but stayed quiet. Unsure what to say at this current moment. He knows he isn't being fair, he is not giving her a choice but he just knows it is for the best.

Because she is the one person that he could not lose. She is his home as he is her home and he is ruining that. With deep breath he spared her a quick look and his heart broke at the sight of her trying to hold together.

"I do."

Caroline is not one for expressing emotions, she has never been good at it. Because if she is too emotional then she feels that she is weak which is something she hates. But her relationship has taught her that it is okay for her to allow herself to feel.

She was always one of those little girls that believe in magical fairy tale stories of falling in love, finding herself a prince charming but here she is trying not to break down that her relationship, her own version of a fairy-take is now over. Caroline felt a tear come out of her eye. She really did not want to let him go.

Klaus has lost many things in his life but him choosing to let go of Caroline was killing him. He needs to let her go. She will never be safe with him. Klaus has lost many people because of him and he will not risk losing her because he did not make the right choice of letting go. He wanted to be selfish and just lock her in a box all for himself but he knows that she has a life to live and is not with him. He will not forgive himself if she gets hurt again because of him.

Klaus got hold of her hand as he felt her give him a big squeeze. Klaus grabbed hold of her chin and moved it for her to face him, he almost broke down seeing her in so much pain. He put his forehead against hers, just wanting to feel her body heat against his. He let out such soft whispers that were barely hearable, "I'm sorry. I'm sorry."

Caroline squeezed her eyes shut as she heard him say sorry. Caroline just wanted to fight his stubborn ass. She opened her eyes and looked straight at his glossy eyes, "I know."

The two of them got up and moved closer to see the city skyline as the bright lights of the tall New York building shine upon them. Where they originally were planning to explore, the city.

The mix of neon lights shine on them as a small cold breeze hits their faces. As each one felt a sudden mix of emotions, Caroline tilted her head to see Klaus looking up at the sky.

"It's not your choice to make."

"I know"

Klaus closed his eyes for a moment as he knew this was the end of their story. He opened his eyes and saw the tears falling down Caroline’s eyes. He quickly went to her and wiped her tears away, "Please don't cry for me. I'm not worth it."

"It's not your choice to make."

Caroline's lips start to tremble as she is not trying to sob right now. Klaus grabbed her and gave her a big hug as he held her. He did not say anything but she knew he was sorry. She just held on to him not wanting to ever let go.

The ex-couple spent the rest of the night holding onto one another for one last time before they went their separate ways. They said nothing to one another, just having each warmth radiating off one another was enough.

Because they were each other's motive, in this long and dreadful immortal life, they were the sweetness part to each other.

“However long it takes.”

TWO YEARS LATER—

Caroline laid on the floor as her body was in pain. Glancing down at the puddle of blood that surround her intoxicating away as the red seem to be the only form of light in the room. She hissed in pain as the spelled chains kept her restricted, her eyes fell upon the chain as light red swirl around the chain as she ripped them off.

Caroline heard light footsteps as she rolled her eyes at the upcoming people. The room shone bright as a door was opened, two people glanced at her as she waved at them. Before they could say anything she flash to them as she ripped their hearts with red splattering all over her.

She huffed out, so much for a fun night out with Bonnie. She sighs as she glances down at her outfit that was ruined at least her shoes were okay. She was wearing a silk baby blue crop top that showcased her ivory skin while teasing her breast. She paired the top with a mini black skirt and her hair was loose but she had red splatter on her golden locks. She sighs as she walks out the room.

She found herself front with someone, she muttered a spell under her breath, as the person fell to the ground groaning out of pain. Caroline went down to them as tug her hand into their heart, “You ruined girl’s night.”

The split unfortunate yells had shuddered as she ripped their heart out, the empty vacuum of blood that poisoned her skin like an additional rigid coat of skin that is slowly strangling her into.

She heard light footsteps coming her way. She winced out of pain as her breath hitch as the burning sensation was creeping upon her. Before she reacted she found her back against the wall with hand around her throat.

She saw a man with dark hair as he pressed harder, stopping her chain of breaths. The man squeezed it harder, Caroline choked it out, “Just because I like hard doesn’t mean we need to get so kinky, take me out on date first.”

The man let out a hearty chuckle, “You would like that, huh?”

Caroline tried to move her hand around her throat that made harder for her to mutter the spells and the wounds around her made it hard for her to break free from the hold. The man gently placed his hand on her leg soothing it, “But unfortunately that won’t be the case. Although you are such piece of candy.”

Caroline could not help but roll her eyes at the man. The dark-haired man hitch his hand higher on her leg but before he could even reach her mid thigh, he was pulled away from her, as the man dropped to floor with blood coming out of him. The man fell down as his life drain away, with his blood soaking Caroline.

Caroline shifted her gaze up to see the original hybrid that left an aching tug in her heart. But she could not focus on anything besides the way the ruby color splatter on his skin, as he gently moved to meet her eyes, gazing at her as his eyes darkened a bit, “Hello, Love.”

Caroline rolled her eyes as walked past him. Klaus caught up to her as he stopped her, “What, not even a hello, after two years?”

“Well I’m not the one that ended it,” she nudged his shoulder, walking down the hall trying to get out of wherever she was. Klaus winced at her harsh tone but he deserves it to be real, even if part of them ended things in an okay manner, he still had hurt her, something he never ever intended to do.

Klaus ran as he grabbed her arm again, Caroline blinked her thoughts away and looked down at her skirt, she moved her eyes back to Klaus and let out sighs, "Hi."

Klaus could not help but chuckle at her awkwardness, "Hi."

Klaus observed Caroline as her curly blonde hair is longer now and her eyes displayed a sudden tiredness, obviously pointing out that she hasn't gotten much sleep in awhile.

He shifted his gaze, not helping but paused for a split second at her ivory breast tainting with red, slightly teasing anyone. He clenched his jaw at the thought she was displayed for everyone to see, which he did not care as long as everyone knew she belonged to him.

Caroline felt like her 16 year old self again, trying to talk to a boy for the first time. She always spoke her mind but when it came with Klaus he made her feel on top of the world but also he set her nerves like crazy. Even when they got together she would always get butterflies, even though she doesn't want to admit it. But she can't help feeling a little resentment after their break-up. But she pushed those feelings down.

In a weird way they were each other’s motive, a reason that they each pushed each other to the limit. Caroline gave him her famous miss mystic falls smile, "I’m go now.”

Klaus has smirked plaster on him, “Not even a thank you for saving you sweetheart?”

“I had it handled,” muttered Caroline as she shook him off but he wouldn’t let her leave. Klaus tilted his head with a teasing smile on him, “Oh, really?”

Caroline chuckled at him, “Yes, plus we both know I love it when it gets messy.”

Caroline walked away with a slight smirk on her face. She refuses to let him win. Klaus stood still with a clenched jaw as she walked away. She was provoking him, his little vixen. He had smirk on him as he was flashing to her, and flashing both of them to a hotel room nearby.

Caroline huffs as Klaus sets her down in the hotel room. She glared at him with a hand on her hip, “What is your problem?”

“I just want to talk sweetheart,” shrugged Klaus as he displayed a dimple smile, acting all innocent. Caroline bit her tongue knowing his little act. She nodded, “Well, I don’t want to. What are you even doing here?”

Klaus shook his head, taking a step forward to her, “Business. I was curious to hear about a blonde vamp witch, which I instantly knew was my blonde.”

“Not yours,” mumbled Caroline ignoring the butterflies in her stomach at his stupid possessive claim on her. Klaus had a smug look on him seeing her all adorable and flushed in front of him.

His eyes fell upon the blood dripping on her skin, his gaze darkened, “What about you? Special night to be dressed like that?”

Caroline scoffed as she met his gaze and noticed his eyes had flint of gold in them. She sighs but nodded to his question, “Yes. I had goals for the night but that got ruined.”

Klaus clenched his jaw knowing what she was implying. He could not help but snarled at her, “You are mine, Caroline. No one is allowed to touch you but me.”

Caroline raised her brow at him, refusing to submit to his stupid claim. She sighs, turning around to exit the room but she found herself trapped against the wall. Klaus’s eyes shined bright as his raspy voice filled her, “Come on love. Don’t forget your place, which is right by my side.”

Caroline bit her tongue, as goosebumps rose on her skin as his hand caresses her leg, hitching higher and higher. But she was stubborn and refused to let him get away with his freakin game. She tilted her head as he did not remove his gaze from her.

Caroline offered a fake smile, “We aren’t together anymore,” she leans closer as her lips brushed slightly across his ear, “I can fuck whoever I want. Whenever I want, wherever I want.”

Caroline heard a slight growl as she felt his arms wrap around her waist in a possessive way. Klaus placed one of his hands on her lower back as he caressed her, “That is where you are wrong, love. You're mine. Do I need to remind you?”

“We aren’t together anymore,” huffed Caroline at his touch that always made her melt into his body. The tension in the room had grown so suffocating.

Klaus offered her smile, “Do I need to punish you, love? I made sure you remember that you belong to me and I don’t care that ‘we aren’t together’ as you put it you will always be mine.”

Caroline ignored the hit of arousal that hit her body like the wash of a hurricane. She moved her hands to his head, slightly brushing his curls, “A bit desperate don’t you think?”

“For you and only you,” mumbled Klaus. He tugged her closer as her chest pressed against his. They stared at each other for what seemed like eternity until their lips met. Who made the first move was a blur to the both of them as all they could focus on was the way their lips molded perfectly, like the softness of clay.

Klaus bit his lip as he brushed her hair away from her face, seeing her eyes flutter to him. He really missed waking up to seeing this everyday. Klaus brushed his fingers across her face, “I’m sorry.”

“I know,” mumbled Caroline, seeing the sincerity in his eyes. She sighs moving closer to him, if it were possible, “However long it takes, right?”

“However long it takes,” nodded Klaus. He brought his lips to hers, as they melt at the touch of their lips meeting, it felt so incredible each time. Caroline pulled away as she snuggled onto him, with a teasing smile on her, “You plan on going on murder spree pretty soon, huh?”

“Of course, love. I need to find out who else wants my blonde witch,” Klaus nodded in confirmation. Caroline tilted her head, “You mean vampy-witch?”

“Same thing, love. You’re still mine, you know that right?”

“Yes, I get it. Calm your possessive self down.”
