So my step father was very strict and I couldn’t go to movies when I was young. When the sequel to Star Wars (A New Hope) hit the theaters I knew I wouldn’t be able to go. So I bought the book version. : Yes, I know. But I was 13 and who cared? I wasn’t gonna see the movie until I was probably 85. : Finished it and … talk about special interest. I was obsessed. I bought every trading card they had; I bought every book that was out at the time. : Then I said to myself, “Self. B*tch, you could do this. You could make a story like this. In fact…” : Grabbed a chair and confiscated my mother little Royal Mercury. Got her to buy me some onion skin paper (you could erase it), and was off. : Fifty-two pages later (single-spaced thanks) and I had written the next great sci-fi novel. : Don’t. So, the question was “How do you draft?” And for a while, I just grabbed my laptop and went off. . I’m working now, so I have two small opportunities to write during most days. : I NEED to get a move on, so I went into the way back machine and pulled out an old technique I used back when I was a teen writer. Honestly, I’m writing. I might not have put too much pen to paper, but my mind is percolating like crazy. . Never been one to do “brain dumps”. I think it’s from my working days, but I’m able to hang on to ideas, “notes” and even dialogue in my brain for a long time before I get around to writing it down. I’d flip out occasionally at work and scribble stuff down, but for the most part, I’m just going through a full scene over and over. .
