am i probably the only one who finds the whole "protectors of the seas" concept in the Little Mermaid remake a tad bit problematic?

the idea that each of King Triton's seven daughters are a "protector" of a sea, implying that he rules over all seas and tribes/states around the world

doesn't that sound a bit too imperialist? think about it: a European/white monarch ruling over multiple tribes around the world, a lot of which aren't European considering his daughters are ethnically diverse

(it is a bit more troubling as a Filipino having to imagine Filipino merpeople in that universe being also under the rule of a foreigner much like their human neighbors, especially one that's being played by a Spaniard)

or perhaps that's exactly where the remake will be going: a subplot where tribes/kingdoms demand independence (even threatening to wage war on Triton) and Triton will have the change of heart in the end of the movie to dissolve the kingdom

idk just my thoughts. the movie isn't out yet so I can't say for sure

You resume your kingly duties. It’s a fine, effective day- Kelp productivity rates are up. Seashell imports are happening as scheduled...

A shadow sets in over the castle, and you frown and look up. Odd?... The sun doesn’t set for another three hours, and there’s no eclipse scheduled. It becomes obvious that this is not some regular lunar eclipse when a GIANT HEART-SHAPED MOON appears way above the waves in a blood-red sky. This is about when the shaking starts.

Ghost King Danny and what have you, but the Infinite Realms only connects to the Nicktoons. So Danny sings over in FOP, vacations in Retroville, bonds with Neptune down in Bikini Bottom over sons (Dan and Triton) and daughters (Dani and Mindy) that cause them stress, Overshadows Jenny (which probably counts as a level of intimacy Constantine would be jealous of), relaxes over in Rugrats/Wild Thornberrys, messes with Zim, etc

Then Danny gets summoned to DC because someone wanted to summon the king of a multiverse. Danny's friends and foes are not amused. How dare that random universe steal their king buddy/enemy!
