#yeah! #derry girls #actually thought about this when i was studying today #the punk scene in ni is soo interesting to me #and how derry girls fits into art created about the troubles #because the vast majority of media about them has focused on the violence and political 'struggles'. and understandably so #but both derry girls and the undertones focused on teenager's lives . with the troubles on the periphery #teenage kicks is about the life of one teenager who fancies a girl basically #and derry girls is about a group of teenagers who struggle with ordinary things about being a teenager like school parents and crushes #and both the undertones in the 70s and derry girls today showed the rest of the uk/ireland (and further afield) that ni is more than just #violence and sectarianism. and that the people (esp teenagers) here are just like people and teenagers everywhere #which was a BIG deal in the 70s and honestly kind of a big deal now too when you think about english ignorance about ni lol #(one commentator on a guardian review of derry girls said that it hadnt occurred to him when he was growing up that catholics in ni were #just ordinary people just like him and his friends and family. which kinda shows the extent to which propaganda regarding ni functioned in #britain during the troubles - and still today in some ways) #it also feels significant that both derry girls and the undertones were created by working class catholics from derry but maintaining #a non sectarian aspect is also important - the point is that they both portrayed the realities of being a teenager which crossed religious #and political barriers. i could write a whole essay on this honestly #kinda moved on from the punk scene aspect hmmm in ep 3x05 of derry girls stiff little finger's 'alternative ulster' was played #which calls on the listener to 'grab it and change it - it's yours' to show that ordinary people - esp teenagers - have the power to create #a better society and a better life and a better ulster. and in 3x07 that's exactly what they did.

In AA4 we learn that Trucy Wright made the Wright Talent Agency into the Wright Anything Agency in order to bring Apollo in as a lawyer when before it was just her (a magician) and her adopted father Phoenix (a poker player). and AA5 is all about Athena joining and Apollo learning how to trust her, at least it is to ME. they're so gooddddd aaaaaaa like you've got Phoenix and Trucy who are weirdos who love to scheme and you've got Apollo their longsuffering guy who deals with it all, and Phoenix is the mentor... and then Athena comes in and she has a lot of light and determination and trauma (just like the rest of them lol) and she's SO determined and I like her a lot!! And Trucy is my favorite and Phoenix cares about her SO much but he also has his other found family in the Feys!!!!!! Mia dies in the first game but her ghost stays with Phoenix and her sister/cousin Maya and Pearl are SO IMPORTANT TO HIM he loves them so much that's his sisters to me ;-; he would do anything for them and Trucy and he's growing as a mentor to Apollo and Athena too as the game progress... Your lover has each of them under an arm, and they are appended to your stable of weird little girls but are very much hidden in the back. Then you find out that your daughter, the official one, has a 22yo trans half-brother with a musical diva mother and was half raised as a prince in Khura'in, so you divorce his boss (who is not your official lover, you just had a weird thing for a while when you were in your alcoholic phase, maybe while your actual lover was still messing around with the furry) very publicly while sending him to prison for murdering your daughter's father. Oh, but you have been disbarred, so you make your daughter's son send his own boss to prison, by planting false evidence on him. Of course the young man punches you in the face. Needless to say he works for you for a couple of years and never finds out that he's related to your daughter because that would require a straightforward conversation, now wouldn't it?

1 - Ah yes, the AU where Izuku ends Hawks' whole career.

2 - So, Hawks goes to UA and gives a conference about how to manage one's brand and interacting with the public, in one of Midnight's classes. He greets Shouto, Katsuki and Izuku, that he saw when they were interning with Endeavor, and 1-A is very surprised to see how cold Izuku is towards Hawks. Midoriya, is after all, someone who gets exceptionally giddy every time he sees a pro hero.

3 - Izuku isn't cold, he is fuming. He is hanging on to his composure by his finger nails. Sadly, Hawks does not realize that. Hawls thinks Izuku is shy and he makes the mistake of making eye contact with him asking him his opinion about what he just said.

4 - It turned out that when Hawks met the kids, he gave MLA books about Destro's philosophy to Endeavor and them. Izuku read those books. Books that were filled with anti quirkless propaganda and the kind of thing Izuku kept hearing at Aldera.

5 - Izuku verbally obliterates Hawks. At the end of his stream of scathing remarks, Hawks is so burned that he is wondering if Dabi hasn't used his quirk on him. An investigation is immediately launched to investigate about the number 3's hero radical ideas.

+1 - Hawks uses it as a vacation and once he recovers from the shock, he is kinda chuckling to himself.

"Backdraft may be a minute shorter than Bring It On, but it’s still over three minutes long, and it makes up for the lost minute with a complex form. The “Pressure! Pressure!” might be the only part that truly repeats.

At the beginning, Fuuta is showing off, acting cool. Then the music slows down as he ponders his verdict. Then the music picks up the pace again and gets more and more frantic as the consequences of his actions catch up to him.

See that structure in the three distinct verses that sound nothing like anything else in the song: cool, contemplative, and “oh no, what have I done”.

The “chorus” (burn burn!) never stays the same. You’ve got the “cool” first chorus. Then you have the muted second chorus as it sinks in that Fuuta’s victim was a middle-school girl, which leads into the tense final chorus (which is twice as long as the first) as the victim and Fuuta both burn.

The instrumental and the spoken-word from the beginning combine in the end, changing the mood of the stanza from confident and showy to panicked and desperate.

And the words… You can hear the wordplay in the last stanza, even if you don’t understand it.

"Back draft is incredible because it not only has great visual symbolism with the use of the spray cans but its visual symbolism shows a progression from ‘Bring it on’. In ‘Bring it on’ the channelling is glorious , fuuta is surrounded by people and fuuta idealised himself (taller , better teeth , better posture ect) , the people he cancelled were portrayed as these powerful rpg monsters but now in back now the channelling is portrayed as vandalism a crime as destructive , the ally is empty we only ever see others as hands or his victim fuuta is alone and fuuta is no longer idealising his appearance and his mind is now portraying his victim as a harmless cutesy drawing. This shows a change in how fuuta views his crime between T1 and T2. It wasn’t glorious, it wasn't justified , he was at fault. The fire being recontextsied as something out of control , all consuming and out of control which is the opposite of how it was portrayed in ‘Bring it on’ we really see how the vote has changed fuuta."

"INMF is what got me into Milgram in the first place so of course I have to shill for it. I think its one of my favorite MVs Visually as the scenes set in the bug-web location are so visually striking. Muu and the rest of the bugs dark-purple skin and Muu's and neon pink hair stand out so much against it and it's so Pretty and Vibrant.

Storytelling wise INMF is amazing, it's a complete 180 of how Muu is seen in After Pain but not to the point where it feels like Muu is a totally different character. Muu is both a genuine victim and (in my opinion) a failgirl queen. She's trying her best to keep the image up but she is...NOT good at being a manipulative mastermind. And like After Pain before it, you can figure that out just through the visual and lyrical storytelling, that to some extent this is Still Also a Role Muu is Playing.

It's good! It's really good stuff! Muu is a character of cycles and After Pain and INMF work really well as a cyclical story about bullying. I think Muu should Win on having Good Storytelling and Fantastic Visuals and Being a Worst Girl. You should do it for all the girls in the world who are the Worst."

Just give him a chance, mi amor, and he'll show you he can be the best father you've ever seen--if he could figure out how, he would even carry the baby for you just to save you the physical toll of childbirth and postpartum. If and when it finally comes time for you to let him have a crack at knocking you up, Luis is downright methodical about it right up until you actually conceive. He keeps a calendar of your cycle and maps out your ovulation days to figure out the best time to try, starts giving you vitamins and other supplements to take to help boost your immune system ("healthy body, healthy baby, mi vida!"), and Luis even looks into different positions he can try in the bedroom to help the fertilization process. He's almost too scientific about it but it's so cute to watch him pore over those documents and baby books in his reading glasses, making notes and comparing information so he can make it as easy for you as possible throughout the process. He'll do all the work for you that he can--all your job includes is sitting around, being comfortable, and growing your baby until you're ready to pop. You don't have to work, or travel, or stress at all, all Luis wants you to do as your lover and in-home doctor (kinda) is to relax, indulge in your hobbies, and let your body direct you towards whatever it needs. You can do that for him, right, love?

That's not to say he's completely, ahem, sterile about the whole process. Luis doesn't mind being a little messy--and god knows he has no qualms about getting all sloppy and rough when it's time to actually make the baby. He's got a theory that his seed will take easier if you're completely relaxed, so he always starts out with the gentlest, most loving head he can manage between those sweet, pretty thighs. But it never ends that way because before long, Luis' mind clouds with lust as he gets that feverish taste of you on his tongue, and by then he's leaving finger-shaped bruises in your hips and moaning with his lips totally sealed around your clit, totally mindless as he makes your world spin. The scrape of his stubble against your skin and the pressure of his nose grinding into you when he has you ride his face is hypnotic, it's tantalizing, and Luis knows that well enough that he never skips out on going down on you even if he's got limited time. Fingers, tongue, or face, he's going to have you falling apart in his lap no matter what time of the month or how sensitive you might be about exposing yourself--Luis would never judge nor condemn you for anything because no matter what it is, it almost always turns him on more than you could ever realize. It's his time to show you how passionate he can really be and lord does he really show it; he doesn't stop even when both of you have already reached your end, he just hikes your legs up higher on his waist, adjusts the pillow propping up your hips, and groans out a string of babbled praises as he humps your poor, overstimulated body to coax out those last spurts of cum he's got left. He's gotta give it his all, no? No sense leaving such a pretty lady empty when he can fill you all up, and give you everything you need to make a baby for him. He can't really get over the fact that it's just that easy for him to be a part of something so beautiful, nor that someone as gorgeous as you would ever let some worthless fiend like him father your children--the feeling is just indescribable, but he knows that it's pure love. And he knows that he wouldn't ever want it with anyone else besides you.

Who knows, maybe once you have the baby you'll be the one begging him for another--but even with one, Luis will be cherishing that sweet little bundle of life and he'll be hardcore protective over them with every ounce of energy he's got. Well, maybe not every ounce....he's got to save enough to keep an eye out for his precious wife too, doesn't he?

The Power Of Media

I need do address one thing, because I see that kinda mindset creep up again and again.

Basically, under postings about utopian media, be it Star Trek, Solarpunk, or - heck - just bare Hopepunk, sometimes people will just go: "Media does not do shit. It does not change the world."

And that just is... demonstrably fault and a very defeatist attitude.

Now, one thing first: Yes, media on its own will not change the world. It will not. If you have this mindset, you are right in so far. We can have endless amounts of hopeful media and the world will not change from it.

But...

We live in capitalism. Its power seems inescapable. So did the divine right of kings. Any human power can be resisted and changed by human beings. Resistance and change often begin in art, and very often in our art, the art of words. - Ursula K. LeGuin

This quote of Ursula K. LeGuin is very powerful to me. Because it really captures the issue very well.

See. Right now we get bombarded with capitalist propaganda left and right. It already starts in school, we will often get it at home and obviously in media again and again.

It is so hard to escape, that to many it is hard to imagine that there ever could be anything else. I mean, we even have the issue within Solarpunk. When I read through those Solarpunk Anthologies, I will again and again find stories, that feature either capitalist worlds - or a world that has to be rebuild after the apocalypse. Because people really struggle imagining how it could be otherwise.

And this is why fiction is so important. Why Hopepunk is so important.

A lot of young people right now are able to see that the system is broken, that it has left them behind. Most young folks, who do not come from generational wealth, see that they will under the current system never own their own house. Their own retirement seems to be rather unlikely. And that is, if they do not die before from either the effects of climate change, from some pandemic through which we have to work because line needs to go up, or just in general because the health care system does not take care of them.

And these young people are willing to fight. They are. But right now they are only fighting against a system. They do not know what they fight for.

I know, for some this might sound like a small thing. But it is not. Especially not in a world, where more and more people are struggling with their mental health.

People need hope.

And again: No, it is not enough on its own. Just hopeful fiction on its own runs the danger of just being endless escapism.

We also need to offer mutual aid for each other. We also need to organize. And, yeah, we need to protest and actually get out there to fight.

But don't underestimate the power of fiction, when it comes to giving people something to fight for.

We know that media and stories have these powers. It is, after all, why those in powers dripfeed us the kinda stories that vilify those, who want to change the system. That tell us, that "everything is fine, okay, just trust the good billionaires" and what not. Because they understand this power.

And we should not leave this power to them along.

Propaganda under the cut.

Edelgard:

Caused insane discourse over whether she was right or wrong that has been going on for four years and will never stop.

She declared a war against the church and the class system of the continent, because she wants a better world, and that's nice she looked hot while doing it too, but her methods are questionable.

She started a war to get rid of the monarchy system in her continent since she believed the system rewarded only those with luck to be born with magic crests rather than those who worked hard. Said system combined with an underground organization that wanted to exploit said crests, allowed for her and her siblings to be experimented on and for most of them to die. Edelgard is desperate to get rid of the crest system fast, since the experimentation on her while it made her more powerful it also shortened her lifespan, war was the fastest way to get rid of it. In any other route of the games that isn't hers, it's heavily implied she sacrificed some of her allies to have an advantage on the battlefield. In the route "Azure Moon" where you support her childhood friend and enemy, Dimitri, in the war, Edelgard will sacrifice her body to become a monster and finally be able to kill you both. Even after Dimitri forgives her, Edelgard will try to kill him. I love her Qwq In her route you can help her become better, and see her hopeful rather than sunk in her obsession for her goal.

Edelgard is a total badass, kind of a fascist, and head of the war crimes committee. She partnered up with a group of comically evil mages in order to destroy the Central Church and overthrow the Archbishop/dragon that had controlled the country for over a millennia, declared war before the school year ended, roping all of her classmates into the conflict, and is even the first protagonist and first female character to fall into the evil emperor archetype. But with all her war crimes, she had a reason for everything, as she was trying to free the continent from the oppressive Crest system that determined people's value by their blood and caused her to be horrifically tortured as a child.

Almalexia:

Killed her husband in order to become a god-queen (based), tried to kill everyone else when her powers started waning (cringe).
