"how to spot a fake therian!" how about instead of hunting down "fake therians" you acknowledge that targeting random people online because you don't like how they act is not going to benefit or help anyone and in the grand scheme of things you should just let people live

Is making a "kinsona" too KFF-y? I swear I've only seen KFFs doing it but it's such a cool concept (for those who don't know, kinsona is like making an OC/sona that is basically the character/critter you are but with more of your traits)
There is no such thing as "too KFF-y." There is exactly one (1) criteria for being KFF - that you don't actually identify as your "kins," and are instead using "kinning" to mean liking, relating to, vibing with, etc. If you're not doing that, you're not KFF, end of. You're allowed to have fun with your identity - I'm not the identity cops here to tell you that if you have [x] amount of fun you're not one of the Real Otherkins™ anymore.
(obligatory note that the real plural of otherkin is otherkin, otherkins is a joke lmao please don't use that as an actual serious pluralization)

Daily Sermon #73
Reminder that Lamb cannot STAND KFFs (Kin For Fun).
"Kin" is a noun, not a verb, and it does not mean "closely relate to", it means being part of that family/group.
Saying "I'm kin of Lamb" means I *am* Lamb, not that I closely relate to them.
This is like kids on tiktok 'self-diagnosing' themselves with autism or Tourette's for the trend while clearly knowing nothing about it.
It's just disrespectful to the actual community.
It makes it look like who we are is a choice and our struggles aren't real.
It makes it look like it's just a fun quirky thing to be otherkin/fictionkin.
It's a part of our actual identity, we have no choice in it, and we are our kintypes, we're not just like "oMg ThIs ChArAcTeR iS lIkE mE".
I support pretty much anything as long as it's not actively harmful.
This is.

Othermask Coining Post
Tumblr media
Othermask is a term I came up with. It's an alternative to KFF, and was made after I saw several posts talking about how being Otherhearted/Synpath/Otherlink doesn't fit all of what KFFers might describe as kin.
Othermask mainly means that you find some kind of pleasure in adopting a nonhuman identity for any length of time. It's voluntary, and can be taken on or off however the person wants.
Like someone with a favorite pair of clothes, or settling into a warm bath. It's something that makes you feel better.
I named it Othermask, because it's putting on a mask for a while. There's enjoyment in being someone/something else. That's why people want to be actors in the first place. That's why we find joy in roleplaying.
The Othermask flag has colors from a winter palette. Winter, some can find it pleasurable, it goes away and comes back for some people, isn't there for others, and is always there for some.
Image ID: A flag with six stripes, all shades of blue and white. In the middle is a black domino mask.

psst. want to hear a secret? cmere. closer.
otherkin is self-defined and encompasses a wide variety of experiences from a loose and voluntary label to a deeply-seated identity inseparable from the person it describes. these two ideas of otherkin and everything between and outside of them is an entirely valid, rich, unique, and beautiful experience that should be respected.
ain't that neat? tell your friends

cirrie/cir symbol
cir (noun): a non-human thing or a character that one relates deeply enough for it to be a part of one's identity. coined as an alternative to kin for fun
cirrie (identity): someone who relates to a non-human thing or a character deeply enough that it's a part of one's identity. coined as an alternative to the kin for fun community's "kinnie"
cirring (action): to relate deeply to a non-human thing or a character, to a point where it may be a part of one's identity. coined as an alternative to the kin for fun community's "kinning"
based mostly off of vibes and what looked good, cir as a word gives me very ">wO ur a superstar!!" vibes so I went with a star-like pattern
edit: important note!!! I didnt coin the term cir, it was coined by incoherent-introspection. I realize I had to add this because it looks like I coined the term when I only just made the symbol qwq

'do not interact if KFF if you KFF fuck off I hate people who kin for fun they're making a mockery out of my identity, they don't even really experience -' shut up shut up shutp up please for the love of god if you're going to log online and pretend to be radically inclusive by reblogging posts about coining and creating flags for microidentities where you're only queerplatonically attracted to people with smiley based emoji genders the least you could do is recognize the incredible sheer gobstopping irony in arguing what are basically transmed talking points about how you think that people say they kin wolves lowkey are making the alterhuman community look bad because unlike them your headmate experiences real wolf species dysphoria that they're disrespecting by 'pretending' to identify as a wolf please for the love of god shut up I am begging you please realize that your ten mile long pronoun list should at the very least come with some understanding of how fucking nuts that is to be the thing you draw the gatekeeping line in the sand over

Hello! Here is the new and improved version of the Kin-Census! Made with feedback given to us based on the original one. We hope this one can serve as a better survey. This survey is for both Otherkin and those who kin for fun!

Im seeing lots of people who are against or for kin for fun, and the thing is that I don’t care if people kin for fun.
I don’t care if you kin for fun as long as you understand that being a kin for people like me is apart of a belief of who we are and aren’t treated as weirdos. Anyone who identifies as any type of otherkin rather it be due to a mental illness or just because they are like that are valid, when we in-fight it allows people who hate us to get the upper hand.

say it with me, folks:
"otherkinity/"kinning" isn't something you do for fun"
=/=
"you can't have fun with being otherkin or you're not valid"

I think a lot of people, especially younger people who weren't integrated into the otherkin community before they started making their kin lists, don't realize that it's always been at it's base a spiritual identity. I'm not a hard gatekeeper, if someone sees like, Bakugo or whatever, and goes "oh shit he's literally me" and doesn't introspect farther than that, I'm not gonna tell them they can't be otherkin. But if you're going around being like "oh yeah I just relate to him, I'm not like these ✨ crazies ✨ who actually believe they're Eda Owlhouse, or a dog, or a dragon lololol" then congrats, you're both ableist as hell and not fucking otherkin man. You just think a character is neat. And that's okay!
Plus a lot of people are forgetting that otherkin and therian overlap widely. Hell, I bet a lot of newer self identified kin folk don't even know what therian is. When people genuinely new to the kin community ask me for my kin list, they're surprised and confused when I say deerkin, dragonkin. They think when I say I'm angelkin, specifically Lucifer, that I identify as a blorbo from their shows, and no I don't. Otherkin doesn't mean you identify as blorbo from your shows. I mean, it totally can! That's also extremely valid, our old host fully identified as Sam Winchester and The Batter on top of these other kintypes. But it's not JUST that, and in tired of getting erased and added to like, cringe comps by PEOPLE WHO CALL THEMSELVES OTHERKIN because I want to connect to my spirituality.
Also, when I say "people who call themselves otherkin" I mean literally just that- not that I think these people are faking or whatever. But if you're kin-for-fun and are self-identifying and CHOOSING this community, learn your history. Respect the people who's experiences you don't understand. Iirc, otherkin in the form I'm familiar with has existed since the 70's. Therians even longer before, though I'm admittedly not as educated on that one because I don't generally ID as therian despite having deer as a kintype and "qualifying".
It's, at it's core, a spiritual identity, and y'all are forgetting that. It's not a funny little roleplay game, that's being a furry or a cosplayer. Which is fine! I am also both of those! But if you're coming into the otherkin community, as a newer otherkin or an outsider, do your research. Talk to people who've been in the community for a while. I've been here for what, like nine or ten years now. Some of my mutuals and other friends even longer. It's more than just "lol I'm soooo like komeda 🤪" and while yeah that can be part of it, we have such a more in-depth and RICH history.
I used to get death threats and gore because I was openly otherkin. Now, being "a kinnie" is more normalized, but only within a very narrow window of expression that can go TikTok trending. Im glad these kids can express themselves without having to worry about what I did. But so many turn around and make fun of those of us who genuinely feel a spiritual connection to our kintype, and it's disheartening.

How would you define kin-for-fun? I have never seen a concrete definition of it. I have seen KFF people strugling to define it themselves, but I have also seen KFF people just not know how to define it and just resulting in extremist exclusionist rhetoric.
It is basically exactly what it says on the tin - someone who claims to "kin for fun," or in longer words that no one but me has ever used, to "kin" as an action done for the purpose of having fun. That is, after all, where the term came from. (It's also why I'm more than a little taken aback at how many people are misunderstanding it to mean something else.)
Generally what that means is that they're using "kinning" to mean something along the lines of relating to, projecting onto, roleplaying as, vibing with, or otherwise really really liking a character/thing. Probably part of the reason people have trouble defining it as a one-sentence deal is that it covers a lot of things!
What it explicitly means, though, and this is the important part, is that they do not, by their own admission, actually identify as their "kins" - if you actually identify as the thing in question, you're not KFF, full stop, no matter what else is going on (you use "kin" as a verb, you have a "weird" kintype, you don't take yourself super seriously and like to joke around and have fun with it, etc. etc.). The whole argument is about whether or not it's okay to use the word "kin" to mean something other than identifying as nonhuman/fictional in some capacity.
And for the millionth time, it in no world means "someone who likes to have fun with being 'kin." That is a wholly different animal from "someone who claims to "kin" for the purpose of having fun."
