11:19 Love how playful Renata is in the entree, with deep cambrés and bold arm and head movements, especially as she finishes the pirouettes. Very attractive to see the character of Kitri still shining in the grand pas.

11:54 Flawless lift. Notice Renata's superb coordination, in order to catch the music on time, she prepares her arms to start the turns while coming down from the lift.

12:20 Full split grand pas de chat with no momentum into the adagio preparation SO EXTRA, SO DON Q, I'M HERE FOR IT

12:30 "I'll just make a couple timestamps, I won't go crazy".....I lied to myself. But but this fouette is just too good, Kimin transitioning with both arms stretched wide to show her off. Renata's eyes just make me fall in love and I'm obsessed with her sassy transition into 4th position en pointe.

12:54 WHAT A MOMENT. TIME LITERALLY STOPPED....moving on

13:02 I promise I'll stop timestamping every 10 seconds but like, that arabesque balance is how every balance should be. Classy, without showboating, an active choice on when to exist, no needless 4th wall breaking, perfectly musical.

13:20 The pirouettes? Stellar. The transition out of it? Even better.

13:44 SHe's so confident here, she looks up and explodes her arms out before exiting the pirouette into the penché. That choice creates such feelings of elation.

17:04 Renata's variation starts. Jawdropping footwork, the petit rond de jambes are so clean and so precise, and she's moving so much when she does them. HERE FOR THE RENATA SASS. THe way her face lights up when the crowd starts clapping is priceless

17:57 CODA TIME!!!! Legitimately think no one has ever done this jump better than Kimin. And that manage, just looks like it takes no effort for him to complete. He just floats around like it's nothing.

18:21 Holy shit her fouettes are insane, AND THEN ALL DOUBLES IN THe SECOND HALF???? Aish, her tiny frustrated face appeared for half a second because she was the tiniest bit off and had to do one single. But what a fight, she's such a spitfire. I was on the edge of my seat.

Do you think the MT is having a shortage of male principals? I love Kimin Kim and Vladimir Shklyarov but other than that i'm not obsessed with anyone else :(

Also, would you happen to know why Kimin Kim mostly seems to dance with Tereshkina these days? I loved him with Khoreva!

Definitely, the Mariinsky male principals are at a vulnerable point right now, especially after losing Parish and Caixeta. I love Kim, Shklyarov, and Ivanchenko, but Ivanchenko is practically retired and Shklyarov only has a few more years in him. I'm also not a huge fan of Askerov or Yermakov. I've found Askerov to be kinda awkward in a lot of roles and I've just never gotten into Yermakov.

I think Stepin should totally be a principal and I'd like for him to be promoted to fill things out a bit. However, he's a 2005 grad, so he's not exactly on the younger side either.

I would say that it's likely that eventually Belyakov and Konovalov will be promoted to Principal as well as Korneyev a little later.

They also seem to really be pushing the recent joiner Even Capitaine. I haven't seen a lot of Capitaine yet though, so I can't really speak to him.

As for the question about Kimin Kim's partners recently, I'm not really sure about that. I also really liked him with Khoreva, but perhaps something personal happened between them 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️. I don't know.

I don't know how long ago your grand ballet tv show post was (where you said capitaine hasnt been on the playbill for a while), but he's back! he's listed for carmen suite on the 19th

I wrote that recently, but I had noticed a while ago that Even Capitaine was injured. I haven’t seen a lot of his dancing since he joined the company, but I do recall that Catherine Pollack wrote something interesting on IG about Skorik & Capitaine. She described them as transformative in Giselle, each elevating the others’ dance to a newly discovered realm, and she sensed the budding of a very special partnership. That had my attention…and then he disappeared due to injury. So, I’m hoping to watch Skorik & Capitaine together soon! Glad he’s back.

The only other current Mariinsky partnerships that seem to have that kind of special spark is Shakirova & Kim and Tereshkina & Belyakov.

Speaking of injury, Camilla Mazzi has been out for a couple of months now. I don’t believe she made any kind of announcement,but I saw her on crutches in someone’s New Year’s story — so I suspect she has a long rehab road ahead of her.
