How the Dwarfs show PDA
Thorins company x gn!reader
Warnings: an insane amount of fluff, implied smut
Thorin
Tumblr media
Being the King of Erebor meant that he had a lot of responsibility on his plate. Even before the Dwarfs defeated Smaug and reclaimed Erebor, he wasn’t overly affectionate publicly; that didn’t change once he re-built his kingdom. Kissing is a no go, but instead he would just always have you hold onto his arm as you walked, or vise versa. But when you’re alone in your shared chambers, its like he can’t get enough of you. Thats when he always makes up for the lack of attention and affection that he can’t openly show like he wants to, but if he sees someone flirting with you then thats thrown out of the window; literally. He will pull you up onto his throne and make-out with you infront of everyone if he wants to… and he has… many times. But most of the time; not very into PDA.
Fíli
Tumblr media
Like his Uncle, he has a lot of responsibilities since he’s the heir to the throne. But he doesn’t let that stop him. Once he’s done with his daily duties as the prince of Erebor, he gives you his undivided attention and affection. He always makes sure you’re able to stretch your legs, so he usually like to take late night walks through the mines as you two attempt to not be seen by the guards. One time though you did get caught doing… something. But that’s a story for another day and time. Sometimes he will literally just slip away from the meetings to go and be with you but only if Kíli is there to cover for him. He doesn’t have a problem with showing you how much he adores and loves you, even if that means getting his head chewed off by Thorin for skipping his royal duties.
Kíli
Tumblr media
This man is literally the definition of PDA. He doesn’t have as many duties as his brother so he gets to spend his free time with you. He doesn’t care who watches you two as you walk through the halls of Erebor with his arm tucked tight around your shoulders; paired with a proud grin on his face that reads “yeah thats right they’re mine”. He doesn’t care if his Uncle scolds him for it, you’re his one. He tends to pepper kisses all over your face at random times, which inturn makes you incredibly flustered, sometimes his own brother has to pry him off of you. He’s just a lovey-dovey type of boyfriend and he is not afraid to show it to the whole Kingdom of Erebor.
Dwalin
Tumblr media
Not a fan of PDA at all. However, if he sense that you’re having an off day, or if he sees someone openly flirting with you…. well then it’s like he’s a whole new person. He’ll pull you into his chest as he rubs circles on your back, giving the person that was attempting to flirt with you a death glare and grinning when he watches them basically shit their pants and scramble away. If its the scenario where you’re having an off day he will find someone to cover for him most of the time with a threat before taking you back to your shared house as he gives you his undivided attention and affection. All in all; this man can quickly become the worlds biggest simp for you.
Bofur
Tumblr media
Like Kíli, he’s the definition of PDA. As soon as he gets home from work he’s all over you; literally. He will physically jump on top of you if you’re ignoring him, especially after a long day in the mines. Which usually leads to you forcing him to get up off of you so you can fix him a bath. Even when you’re doing that, his hands are wrapped around your waist as his chin rests on top of your head. In public it doesn’t change, his fingers are laced with yours and he’s constantly finding an excuse to kiss you. You have something on your lips? Kiss. You turn to look at him? Kiss. He wants your attention? Multiple kisses. He just adores showing you how much he loves and cherishes you, even during the journey to reclaim Erebor.

Unusual Punishment
Pairing: Thorin x fem!elf!reader, Thranduil x fem!elf!reader, Kili x fem!elf!reader, Legolas x fem!elf!reader
Category: Preferences/Would Include...
Summary: You come from a kingdom where cutting your hair short is a form of punishment, intended to inflict shame upon the criminal. After being charged with crimes, your hair is cut and you are exiled from your homeland. How will your s/o react?
Warning: None
Kili-
Tumblr media
- Kili would know nothing about your lands or your customs.
- He was fascinated by your short hair from the moment you met and would compliment you often.
- Kili’s eyes would be so confused when you’d respond to this by growing silent or ducking your head in shame.
- When you become comfortable enough to tell him, you expect Kili to question why you were punished or to never mention your hair again.
- Instead, Kili runs his fingers through your hair and presses his forehead against yours, insisting that you truly are the most beautiful elf he has ever known.
- It doesn’t matter what crime you committed or anything else about your past, only that you are his now and he loves you more than life.
Thorin-
Tumblr media
- Thorin would have a guess as to why your hair is short but wouldn’t say a word about it.
- If anyone else mentioned your hair he would bristle, cutting them off with a glare.
- His heart always broke a little when he’d catch you angrily running your hands through your hair again and again, hating the constant reminder of your past life.
- When you told Thorin what happened, he listened quietly, then reminded you that the past was just that, in the past.
- In his world, you are his beloved, the one who was destined to rule by his side.
- And that was all that mattered.
Legolas-
Tumblr media
- Legolas could barely conceal his horror when he first saw your short hair.
- His father had told him stories of the strange lands far away with kings who brand criminals so cruelly, however he thought they were just stories.
- It took everything inside him to conceal the pain and hurt he had for you and what had been done to your beautiful hair.
- He became your protector and your beloved almost instantly, there was nothing that could separate him from your side.
- Legolas cried with you when you told him, gathering you into his arms and whispering, “it’s all right, you’re safe, you’re safe,” over and over again.
- Regardless of what you did to be punished, nothing could ever justify this cruelty in his eyes.
Thranduil-
Tumblr media
- When you first appear outside the castle in the middle of a thunderstorm, drenched and shivering, your hair freshly cut with jagged strokes, Thranduil dismisses his advisor’s caution and takes you into his personal care.
- He knows of distant lands where kings enforce this punishment onto their prisoners, however he did not expect those prisoners to be so beautiful, so helpless.
- Somewhere between nursing you back to health and soothing you through nightmares, Thranduil fell utterly and completely in love.
- He waits until you are stronger to broach the subject of your crimes, growing angry when you reveal that you had been the head of the king’s stables and were punished and exiled when his prized horse fell prey to a sickness you could not cure.
- The only thing stopping Thranduil from going to war is the fact you don’t want him to.
- That, however, does not stop him from cutting off all trade routes going to and from those distant lands.
- It is only fair that the king feel some of the pain that he himself has caused.

The Bedroom Theory
Tumblr media
Kili Durin x reader - Fluff with a little angst
TW: a dirty comment
Summary: Kili is flirtatious, and sometimes he speaks without thinking.
a/n: loved writing this! <3 also send me an ask to be added to a taglist!
----
The Summer Solstice, it was something almost every creature in Middle Earth celebrated. Except for dwarves, the only reason it is suspected is because this is the first celebration you had seen any of them participate in. Though they had finally taken Erebor back so you suppose everyone had something to celebrate.
What better way to rejoice than drinks, music, and dancing? Of course you were happy to have taken Erebor back, survived the journey there, and won against the orcs, as well as finally changing clothes. However you couldn’t fully enjoy yourself, the Princes and King of Erebor sat at a table conversing over what was most likely political matters. They hadn’t even taken more than a day to rest and enjoy their accomplishment. With the most out of character confidence you walked over to Kili’s seat and grabbed his hand. He turned to you to question your actions but you were dragging him away before anyone could begin to reason with you.
“You must enjoy yourself, sitting around talking business while others are celebrating cannot be good for one such as yourself. It seems as though you are beginning to melt. Oh dear I can already see the wrinkles forming.” He had a small smirk that seemed to light up his whole face, the tunic he wore only added to the brightness. It was rather odd to see him in a lighter shade of maroon as compared to the black and grey he adorned on your journey.
“What if we weren’t discussing business, Lady of the Shire?” What could he possibly be getting at?
“It does not matter what you were conversing about anymore.” You attempted to keep a serious face. “Dance with my Prince Durin, or I shall perish on the spot.” He opened his mouth and closed it, he looked like a fish out of water.
“I have to admit something Y/N.” His tone more serious than you would have liked. Oh heavens, was he going to admit he was going to find the elf, Tauriel you believed her name was. She looked at him with so much love, maybe he liked her soft hands as compared to your calloused ones. “ I do not know how to dance.”
You slightly smiled, maybe you liked that it had nothing to do with the elf. Maybe your heart picked up a beat at the thought of something blooming between the two of you. Though none of that mattered at the moment, you now needed to prepare for the pain that was about to ensue.
“Ah, something the great and wonderful Kili cannot do. Well, I shall teach you then. You will dance with your future wife, will you not?” The smirk was back.
“I should hope so, though no one can compare to your gracefulness.” He had you remembering the time you tripped over a tree branch on a hill and managed to take half the company down with you.
“Oh shut it. Now, hold my hand.” You slid your left hand into his right. “And this one,” you gently grabbed onto his left hand “goes here.” The tenderness in which he held his hand at your waist was surprising.
You could see in his face he was struggling to hold something back, yet his eyes stayed on yours.
“Now we are going to move from foot to foot in a sort of jumping manner. Watch that couple over there for a moment.” You turned to watch a young pair of children dance about.
“Got it?” He shook his head even though he had been watching you. And so the torture began. You let the first few minutes slide knowing that the dance would be hard for a dwarf to conquer. It was more suited for a person who was light on their feet. It soon became apparent that he had completely missed what he was supposed to be doing. There were a couple close calls involving you almost having a broken toe or two.
“Kili, you didn’t watch, you have almost broken my feet multiple times!” You squealed as you narrowly escaped his heavy boots, yet again.
“Maybe I prefer a different kind of dancing…” You understood what he was hinting at, it was toeing the line between funny and flirty vs inappropriate. “one that includes privacy, and a bedroom. Though the bed isn’t required, if you are into that sort of thing.” Your brain began to buzz and your face was heating up like a furnace.
“Kili Durin, I will smack the shit out of you.” A few nearby stopped to look at you both.
“Oh so I take it, the bed is optional with you.” He chuckled, a mistake. He misread you and now he would regret it. A moment after his comment he watched something flicker in your eyes, and then he felt the burning sting your hand left behind on his cheek.
“Do not talk of such things to me Prince, that is no way to talk to a lady. We may be close, but that sort of conversation is not to be had between friends, and especially not in public.” Taking a step back you inhaled deeply trying to remain confident as you felt the weight of many stares.“Now if you will excuse me, I need to be anywhere but here.” With that you made your way past the royal table, avoiding eye contact, and into the small woods nearby.
Such a thing would attract attention if it was a regular person on the receiving end, however it was a royal. Not just any royal, a true Prince. Everyone had halted, even the music stopped. This had Thorin and Fili searching for the distruption. Upon seeing the utter shock on Kili’s face and the anger that trailed after you as you sped past them, Fili had ordered the musicians to carry on with the music as Thorin encouraged everyone else to return to the festivities. Everyone was hesitant at first but soon it was as if nothing had happened. Though for years to come ‘the time a commoner hit a prince’ would be told as bedtime stories.
~~~
You found yourself sitting near the water, dipping your feet in as the tide fell in and out. The beach portion was mostly rocks and a couple shells here and there, walking along it barefoot reminded you of your trek to Erebor.
The crunching of twigs snapped you out of your thoughts. You could feel his presence and were deciding that he didn’t deserve your attention you continued turning over the rock in your hands.
“Y/N,” his voice was soft, a tinge of hurt in it. Why was he hurt? The way he was talking… what he said was hardly appropriate considering the setting, alongside the fact that you are not courting one another. Maybe a smack to the face took it a step too far. But were you really wrong? No. And maybe there was a part of you that was just hurt that he would make a joke out of such a thing.
You had been with the company long enough to learn dwarves' traditions. You learned how important courting was and the steps to finalize the relationship. It was given that the men would have their conversations about such things together and the women would have theirs. However it would be separate. As you grew closer to the group and had been less of an outsider, you were given the privilege of being one of them. They did not hold back the gross details of their stories or thoughts. Now it worried you. What if Kili only say you as part of the group, a close friend, not a woman who could be courted.
“I am sorry.” He stood at the edge of the woods waiting for you to respond, to let him know it was okay to talk. A simple hmph pushed him closer. “I realize I should have made that kind of comment in a private setting… well it should not have been said at all. I didn’t mean to make you uncomfortable. I am just used to talking about whatever with you.” Slowly, he sat down next to you.
“You can.” It came out barely a whisper. “Of course you can Kili, I am your friend. But such a statement is improper to say in public, especially to someone you are not with. I am your friend, but that is all.” You chest felt like someone had scraped out everything and under your eyes were heavy. Begging your body to hold back tears until you were alone, you sucked in a big breath. He looked at your face, inspecting it as if he had not just spent over half a year with you.
“And if I wanted to be more than your friend? Someone who could make a remark like that without being slapped?” His smirk was visible in your peripheral vision.
“I suppose that is a possibility.” Gently he grabbed your chin, turning your face towards him.
“How does one go about courting? I don’t know how it is initiated.”
“Well for that you would need a bead, such as this one.” He pulled out a medium sized bead, something noticeable but not giant, with a ring of white quartz encased with silver designs of leaves. “And then they would ask if you could court them. And the rest is up to their answer.” His smirk never faltered, not even with your shocked awkward noise.
“Are you being serious?” Your hands were now shaking as your reached out to cup the outside of his hands.
“Amralime, would you allow me the greatest honor of courting you?” He leaned in the slowly, he placed his hand on your cheek, his thumb brushing over your bottom lips softly.
“Kili, you have a line of women of all species dying to be seen by you. Why me?” The love you had been yearning for was finally presented to you, yet you couldn’t fathom why he, a true prince, would want to be with you. By no means were you insecure about yourself, you knew you stunning and you had many bewitching attributes. But when a prince, the Prince of Erebor, was asking to be with you, no, court you what were you supposed to do. There were so many other women who would be better suited for the royal life
“You have no idea how much you mean to me. There is something about you, something so vibrant and beautiful. I don’t know if there is such thing as a One, but if they are real. You are my One, and I believe I have always known that.” He leaned his forehead against yours. Both your bodies seemed to drift closer to each other, they always had. Maybe you knew he had been meant for you as long as he had known you were meant for him. Your lips ghosted over his, you could hear his breath hitch.
“I would love to be courted by you, my prince. Though I believe your bedroom theory needs some experimenting, don’t you think?” You mumbled before attaching your lips to his.
a kili durin love story
when a young princess meets a dwarf without a home— she becomes his home.
・❥・ 𝐋𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐥𝐞 𝐓𝐚𝐥𝐤𝐬
The pale light of the moon illuminated the city of King’s Landing, a dense blanket of snow covering the cobbled streets, tattered rooftops, and darkened alleyways underneath the crisp, starry sky. It was on this cold night that the Realm’s Delight was giving birth to her third child.
Her piercing cries of agony blended with the howling wind, creating a ghostly wail that flooded the halls of the Red Keep. At long last, the Realm’s Delight held her newborn in her arms with a gentle grasp, a beautiful princess, born at the stroke of midnight amidst a raging white storm. The child was a beacon of hope, a shining addition to the Targaryen dynasty.
Rhaenyra smiled softly as her finger caressed the soft cheeks of her daughter. The slight movement triggered a bubbly laugh to pour out the young child and a gummy smile to appear upon her face. Her tiny hands chased after her mother’s finger, eager to hold it, causing Rhaenyra to chuckle lightly to herself.
It was indeed a heartwarming scene of a mother and her daughter.
Her daughter. The daughter she longed for her whole life. Her beautiful, precious Valaerys.
Kili had left the Blue Mountains with no intention of finding a partner, he didn't think it was a priority, not when such an important mission was at hand.
Destiny had other plans for him however. All he needed was a single look at you to understand you were his One, but he did not dare to act until the Battle was won and he could confess his feelings and intentions safely.
After months of courting and Kili visiting you secretely in Dale he decided it was time for you to meet his family and the company he travelled with. They were the most important people in his life and he wanted to introduce you too in the group.
So, after nights spent at thinking about how he could do just that he came up with an idea. A dinner. But first he had to tell the others about his courting and that made him a little nervous. He knew his position and he was worried his union would not be considere fitting enough for a prince.
Once a week the company and Dis had the habit of having breakfast all together. Kili decided it was the ideal moment to share his news.
If he thought he would have to face judgement or any kind of obstacle he was wrong. Everyone was very supporting, all of them ready to meet this sweet creature that had Kili's heart.
Together they organized a dinner for the following evening, everybody excited to meet you.
That afternoon Kili took a pony and rode to Dale happy to share the invite with you and stopped only once to arrange a bouquet of wild flowers to bring you.
When he knocked on your door you ran to open and Kili was there, smiling brightly behind those colorful flowers. His smile was your favourite thing in the world, he could light up the whole room with it.
Not even after an instant after you closed the door he kissed you sweetly, as only him could do.
"Amrâlimê… I missed you so much." he kissed you again and caressed the braid he did the last time he visited you. After he had given you the courting bead not a day had gone by without you weraing it. Kili would braid you hair again everytime before he would have to go back home, so that you coul have his touch in the hours or days you spent apart.
"I missed you too darling." you smiled in the kiss and he smiled back.
"I have good news for you!" he was so excited he couldn't keep it to himself anymore.
"Do tell my love."
"I told my family and the company all about us and our courting. They invite you to dinner with them tomorrow evening. They can't wait to meet you." your smile dropped a little. Kili had talked about them a lot obviously, from his stories they seemed to be great. What if they found you lame?
"Did- did I do something wrong?" Kili asked seeing you spacing out.
"No, absolutely not my darling, but... what if I'm not what they expect me to be? What if tomorrow they meet me, thinking I am more than what I am?" Kili caressed your cheeks and smiled again.
"You don't have to worry about it. They will love you as I do amrâlimê." you nodded, not really reassured, but less nervous.
The following afternoon Kili visited you again. You wore your nicest clothes and he had to take very deep breaths everytime he looked at you, you were simply gorgeus. He rode with you to the Mountain and, the more you got close, the more nervous you were.
When you entered the hallways of Erebor your palms were staring to sweat. Kili noticed and took your hand, guiding you to the dinner room still smiling, because Kili always smile.
When you entered, everyone was already waiting for the two of you. Kili had told you they were excited, but not HOW MUCH excited. Fili literally pushed Kili away to hug you and so did some of the other dwarves. Bilbo was a gentle men, bowing and kissing you hand, Dis made you feel at ease and Thorin kept asking questions to know more about you, his smile, so similar to Kili's, growing with each answer. Everyone was so sweet, your future husband had not done them justice when he told you how great they were.
The best part had been eating with them. It was so funny seeing Bilbo jumping up and down his chair to stop the dwarves from doing something and them not listening. It made you laugh wholeheartedly.
Kili watched you all night, trying to see if you were comfortable in the company of his family and it was very obvious to him you were enjoying them. It made him happier than he imagined.
The dinner was followed by a lot of songs and stories. You had never listened to anything like that and it had all of your attention. The way Balin would tak about their adventures or the songs, all of that gave you goosebumps.
Only when it was very late you started to fall asleep, comforted by the warm hug of your Kili and the feeling of having found a new home.
Bird's Nest
Chapter release: 2000 called; They want their trope back.
Summary
Rating 18+
The early 2000s called and they want their trope back; Part one of oh no youre trapped in a closet???😱😳 Oh no whats going to happen??ohhh noooo.🍿😌
Not even troll socks can save the reader now.
🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿😌🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿
Chapter 3? Or is it 4? You think I'm organized? Please, I'm a pisces.
You knew exactly where another bird's nest was and you led your raven right to it. Trailing him along the darkened halls with their high reaching ceilings and glossy paintings. Past the vases, textiles, and urns.
Somehow with him fluttering around you the place didn't feel so dreary and dead. Instead it felt lived in now, the music which had once sounded like a mocking funeral dirge now lightened your mood considerably. A spring welcoming itself back into your steps while you herded him along.
"No, no, this way. I am trying to show you something, Raven-dear. Have you seen the chandelier ? It's gems are all from erebor.” Pointing upwards ahead of you both to the gleaming gem stone covered chandelier. It clung to the apex of the ceiling where it glistened with stunning array of inset gems. Each carved and faceted long before the desolation.
There was no missing the way his eyes alight upon it and his mouth makes a perfect 'o' shape. Focused on it he wanders below circling with admiration. " It is missing a piece."
" You are correct." You sigh feigning exhaustion, " alas I do not have a ladder tall enough to place you back on top where you belong."
Turn back his face is beaming with a smile. Laughter fills his eyes when he captures your hand pulling you beneath it to join him. Placing a chaste kiss on the back of your worn and dirty knuckles. " You are funny, but no not what I meant."
" What do you mean then?" Your hand squeezed his returning his affection filled gaze with your own. Unable to stop the stars from shining in your eyes. This was what the songs were about. This is what the books spoke of. " What bird's nest am I missing,Raven-dear?"
Still holding your hand to his mouth he places another kiss, eyes peering up at you mischeviously. " There's a gem missing. On the third branch inner most ring. We are very keen observers to our craft you see and are quick to notice when something is missing."
Laughing low you shake your head at him. Unbelievable.Stooping slightly so your whispered voice catches his ear. " That is a secret. But yes you are right one was stolen a few years ago."
A blush creeping a crossed your face as you notice how cute his ears are beneath his hair. So round. Funny, you didn't think ears could be cute before now.
" that is why it's important to have a custodian that doesn't care for gold and jewels." You hummed standing upright before you were tempted further to do anything scandalous.
Quirking a brow at you he asks you skeptical curiosity. " You've never been tempted?"
" Not a once. I only take the money I earn by doing my job anything else would not be right and that is not worthwhile to have. It is needless and useless. Besides, maintenance on jewels and gemstones is quite the bother. " You pointed skyward at the piece in question. " Have you ever thought of the process of maintaining such a piece?"
Shaking his head he scowls frowning deeply. " No, we never really had such finery in the mountains. We lived simply."
" well, it gets cleaned once a year. When we do it is terrifying." You imparted raising your brows, " it is a week long event and everyone is incredibly grumpy. High security we go through a plethora of jars of polish and buffing rags.”
" I can imagine. I wouldn't want to clean it myself." He paused his dark eyes sliding from the chandelier to you, growing wide in that adorable expression. " Don't tell me you-”
You cut him off with a snort. " No. No. Above my position thankfully I wouldn't wan-”
Footsteps.
The loud echoes of footsteps on the marble stairs two galleries away send off the alarms in both your minds.
Your stomach drops. Your eyes widen and they meet his startled expression.
Without a second thought you run.
Whisking your trespasser with you.  Holding his hand in a vice you navigated an ever changing landscape by memory.
 Pulling the two of you into the nearest custodial closet, you quietly close the door behind you. Your heart drummed a heavy rhythm in your ear as you listened to the director, curator, and several others walking along the gallery floor. Their voices loud and full of liquor.
Twisting in knots your stomach lurches. You could've just said the guest was up here and you were chasing him out. But now you were in the closet with him? There was no explanation for that.
There was. But it meant an immediate termination from your position.
" Oh I'm in trouble." You hiss under your breath, your shaking hand struggling to find the small lantern you had stashed on a nearby shelf. You couldn't get it. It fell with a clatter.
A tight squeeze on your opposite hand  jerks your attention back to reality.
"It will be alright." Even in the darkness he had an incredible smile and his eyes, despite their color, seemed to shimmer.
Scrunching your nose you took a breath. You had to stop getting distracted by these feelings bubbling inside you. You let that breath out and took in another.
Troll socks. Troll socks. Troll socks.
You had to stop getting distracted by his accent and his nice hair. Out went the old air and in came fresh air as you walked yourself through a short exercise to slow yourself down. Imagining the smell of troll socks and not trying to catch a whiff of his scent in your confinement.
The pressure on your hand is ever present, soon joined by his other hand. Cradling your hand against his chest his voice softly hushes reassurances and praise.  Some in your shared language. Some in his mother tongue.
" No, that is the king, himself, on a private tour.” Your protests are weak against his enduring endearments, head tilting into his warm calloused hand.
" Just like that. Breathe slow and steady. Good. All will be well. Trust me." He assured brushing hair from your face tenderly tucking it behind your ear. His voice soft and confident like you were playing a game of hide and seek.
You knew differently.
Glancing down your eyes hit the floor between you, the old boards visible in whispers of candle light. It hid the same falling on your brow pulling an ever deepening frown. “I have instructions not to be seen, Raven dearest. Even by you.”
" Don't say that." He whispered rejecting the reality as if it was an idea he could deny.
His heart beating beneath your hand was soothing. With the same pull of distant thunder. His voice flowing water currents down panes of glass, the liquid shift between dialects entrancing, beckoning you to come closer.  If only you had more courage.
His smile only grew and he settled closer to you. A languid look settling upon his face , eyes half closed he simply shrugs, "we will have to stay in here until they're gone.“
Scowling down at him and his ever closer presence you took a steadying breath. You could do this.
Moments ticked by and the voices in the gallery continue their droning dialogue on this and that.
But you were becoming further distracted by the smell of pine and something else that permeated him in an intoxicating cocktail.
It wasn't troll socks. Troll socks didn't smell good like this. They didn't make you question your work boundaries or your sensibilities.
You just wanted to bury your nose in his hair and inhale it. Narrow down those other scents you couldn't quite place.
Totally  normal behavior.
Not strange. Were you turning into a stalker or was this normal? No one had let you this close before and in turn you hadn't either. Your wall of stone blockaded anyone who gave you a second look.
You hadn't anticipated someone flying right over top of it. Perching on its apex and goading you into a game of chase like a pair of children.  There was something so simple and pure about that. Something so nice.
" This is nice." He remarks, his thumb moving in soothing circles on your hand.
" Mmm." You agree, feeling the warmth on your face spreading to your ears in a Wildfire fit for legends.  " I dont mind it," and then without thinking you add, " it's better with you here.”
Barely containing a snorting laugh you had to concur. " You have made my night a pleasure, and one I will hold onto with great fondness.”
" I do make everything better.” He agrees confidently.
" This satisfied and we haven't even parted yet?" The pride was evident in his haughty tone. " I am very fortunate it was you that found me wandering the gallery, and not someone more inclined to following the rules."
He beamed at you like the full moon bathes it's light a crossed a spring meadow. It's breadth illuminating what few saw and what others hid. What shadows cast and what remain confined amongst them. Illuminating pools tempting life out into the open beneath the moon's watchful gaze. Encouragement to be witnessed.
 "Keeping you company has been more fun than the party downstairs.” He imparts warmth filling your chest like never before.
That touched you. No one had said that in a long time. No one had bothered to be in your company, none the less have fun with you.
 Fighting back unexpected tears you were thankful for the dim light. " I am so grateful that you broke the rules and came up here.  I am so happy to have met you and-"
Trying to find the right way to phrase this so you didn't ruin the moment you pause. " I never have asked this before and I am not sure how.”
He patiently nods listening and waiting for you to gather your words in the proper order to string together a coherent sentence. Seeming to enjoy watching you think, his head resting against the wall with that dewy eyed awe filled expression painted on his face. His eyes glistening in wonderment.
"But- to be honest?” You begin slow and measured turning to meet his soulful eyes. “ I would very much like to kiss you." The rest came out in a rush and you were certain you would have to repeat yourself.
You wouldn't have to.
Easily he leans up and presses his nose against yours. His eyelashes brush your cheeks his breath tingles against against lips in teasing beats. His scent envelopes you entirely.
" Here's your chance." His lips brush over  yours a ghostly caress. Giving permission.
You seize it.
Rushing forward your lips take his with your own in a lingering ravishing kiss. Your hand cups his face. Thumb brushing gentle circles along his cheek, enjoying the movement of his jaw and the scratch of his scruff.
His hand guiding your chin to take you deeper and higher into his kiss.
Only hovering above his lips once you both part again to inhale his scent, " please?" You murmur, your fingers moving to play with the ends of his hair. Eyelids heavy as you tried to resist his gravity.
He knew it. He had you.
Begging? Yes.
He was right. You would beg.
He didn't keep you waiting, instead he kisses you again, hands resting on your waist with his finger tips splaying to take in your body.
Parting your lips for him you stifle a moan, wishing his hands would move further and farther. Your body lighting up as you both tease at each others lips and tongues.
Taking him by the shoulders you guide him against the wall, the action pulling a growl from his throat. You press against him, hands flying to hold his thick broad shoulders against it.
 Deepening the duration and breadth of your kisses until you were both breathless. But you didn't part. His hand at the small of your back holding you flush against him.
" Raven-dear." Murmuring appreciatively you rest your forehead against his, your scents mingling. Brushing each other's noses and cheeks with soft and tender touches.
" My treasure. "He returned in kind voice hoarse against your lips. His nose and lips exploring the planes of your face with gentle thoroughness.
Laughs mingling against each other's faces as you both exchange butterfly kisses.
You take further delight with how he would raise on his tip toes. So cute. Like he couldn't get enough of you.
But you couldn't get enough of him either. Taking every opportunity to caress his cheek with your finger tips or brush hair behind his ears. To trace the soft round edges of those very same ears that sends a shiver down his body. Tender touches of care.
" Thank you, for being my first kiss." You whisper against his cheek.
" Your first? Mmm," he frowned his thumb running across your bottom lip, his face grim. " I am afraid I've let you down. That was not my best work.”
You suppress a chuckle. " No?  I have never been so affronted in all my life. How will you make up for such an offense, I wonder?" Turning you kiss his thumb. Nudging his fingers open to kiss his palm taking pride in the puff of air that he releases.
" I will have to kiss you until I have provided my best." He hummed with a smile keenly watching your every movement. " I am afraid i have absolutely no choice.”
" No," you sighed dramatically. " You don't. Dreadful business. “
The two of you kissed for many of the passing songs that drift from the band downstairs. Hands tangling in each other's hair. Mouths stifling laughter and soft moans, shushing each other when either of you became too loud.
Being trapped in a closet had never been more enjoyable. You lost track where the tour was long ago, and to be honest you no longer cared. You'd deal with it later. Right now you were buried deep in his embrace.
Resulting in more laughter. Being pressed against this wall and that, each taking your turn. You delighted when he pressed against you, pulling him to press you back by his broad hips. He leans up arching into your body for more and whenever he pulls away, and with every chance you get, you tease him: whispering breathlessly against his lips, "please?"
He doesn't deny either of you more kisses. "Didn't I tell you?" His laugh low against your lips a smile tugging the corners. "Begging can be fun."
You ran through the battle field as fast as possible, ignoring every person you ran into. Not that you were usually that careless, but given the circumstances, you really couldn’t care less. Your one was still somewhere on the battle field and you were unable to find him. The last time you saw him was when him, Thorin and Fili were on their way to Ravenhill. You already knew Azog was dead as the news spread fast, but you knew nothing of the whereabout of any of them. And that’s what worried you. It’s not that you didn’t trust their abilities to survive the battle, but they went against so many orcs it was unlikely to escape without serious injuries. You yourself didn’t escape unscathed. On your side was located a nasty cut that was bleeding more profoundly the more you moved around. And given the time you spent battling for your life, your energy was nearing its limit dangerously quickly. You finally stopped running as you began to lose sense of what is around you. Your head was spinning, you felt nauseas and the stabbing pain on your side seemed to only increase. You rested your back against the wall and looked around.
So many dead bodies were laying around. Some of men, some of elves, some of dwarves and many of orcs. It certainly didn’t easy your worries, knowing that any of those bodies could be your friends. It could be Kili… Your mind started to spiral into the panic state, the realization that Kili could be laying dead somewhere and you didn’t know where was killing you, you would rather be dead than have to live the rest of your life without him. He was your everything, your life was chaos before you met him and he managed to put it at peace and help you overcome your past. And now you would be all alone again… Hell, you didn’t even help him! You saw them go to the Ravenhill and didn’t make any effort of going after them at all. Yes, you might have been surrounded by orcs and struggled to keep yourself alive, but you could have done something. Anything. Now you were the one to blame for his death. It was your fault; everything was your fault and you were going to blame yourself for the rest of your life.
You didn’t deserve to even face the others, not after you indirectly caused the death of the prince. You deserved to die just like the rest of the dwarves here, you should have so why didn’t you? Why was Mahal so cruel to keep you alive just to drown yourself in blame and sorrow? Your thought process was interrupted by a pair of strong arms being wrapped around you. Your whole body froze, mind unable to comprehend what was happening. Were you about to die? You took a sharp breath and then you realized something. You knew that scent… You finally looked up, just to see Kili placing his head on your shoulder. You sighed in relief and wrapped your arms around him as tight as you could. You didn’t notice the tears falling down your cheeks until now.
“I thought you were dead… We couldn’t find you anywhere and- “Kili started, but you quickly interrupted him by placing your hands on his cheeks
“I’m so sorry, I was trying to find you and you just weren’t anywhere and I was so scared…” you left out a cry, which was partly muted by Kili pressing his lips against yours.
“I’m sorry as well, I would have gone find you right away but I was dragged into the healing tent and- “Kili stopped in his tracks like a realization just hit him.
“Are you okay? Are you hurt? Please tell me you’re alright…” he pleaded
In the heat of the moment, you entirely forgot about the cut on your hip. But now that it’s been given attention, it seemed to hurt even more than before. Suddenly all the things that caused you to stop running before were now present again, like your brain just suppressed them for the reunion of you two. You were grateful for that, but not so much for your whole body to give up on you. You were lucky Kili was there to catch you, otherwise you would have cracked your skull open against the ground. You always thought Kili would freak out when it comes to life-or-death situation concerning you, but no. Kili’s mind entered autopilot mode. He picked you up, mindful about the cut he noticed after you fell, and quickly made his way towards the royal healing tent. That’s where Fili, Thorin and not so long-ago Kili were treated.
Except for Kili they both stayed there because their state didn’t allow them to leave just yet. Well, Kili’s state didn’t either, but he had to find you as quick as possible. He left as fast as he could after he was treated, despite the argues of the healers. The same healers that were now denying to heal you, sending Kili away towards the healers for commoners stated near the mountain. He knew he didn’t have time to get over there quickly so you would have a chance to survive. Besides, you were his One, weren’t you already royalty now that you were courting? He was about to yell at them, but Thorin stepped in.
“They will be healed here. They are important member of the company. Besides, they are basically part of the family.”
Kili knew that if you were in a state to listen, you would be flattered by his words. You and Thorin had a rocky start, but he warmed up to you once Kili informed him you were his One. He placed you on the bed, and if he wasn’t pushed away by the healers he would stay by your side. He didn’t see what they were doing to you, nor did he understand what they were saying, as they were elves. Surprisingly, Thorin didn’t seem to have a problem with elves after the battle, maybe because they helped save his homeland and his nephew, but we don’t need to speculate.
“Are they going to be alright?” Kili hesitated to ask the healer as he feared the answer
“Yes, they are. The cut didn’t cause as much internal damage as we originally thought, so treating it was not as hard.”
Kili just nodded and glanced at you. You were unconscious, pale and took shallow breaths. It didn’t look like you were going to be okay, but he tried to trust them. After all, they were the best among the best, selected specifically to treat the King and the Princes.
“When are they going to wake up?” he asked another question
“That’s up to them now, we can do no more. It should be within hours, but it may take days, weeks even.” The healer said and went to check on Fili
That statement didn’t easy his mind at all, but he was more than willing to wait. It was you, and you were the only one on this world. And you chose him to be the one to spend your life with. If that was the only thing he ever accomplished in his entire life, he would be more than happy. He would be with you, and that’s all he ever needed…
Ludus is a child-like and flirtatious love commonly found in the beginning stages of a relationship. This type of love consists of teasing, playful motives, and laughter between two people.
Tumblr media
Kili has captivated you since your first encounter at Bag End. His brilliant eyes and mischievous grin have stained your cheeks with a hot blush that hasn't left since. The lingering glances, fleeting touches, and the slight holding of breath at ‘what ifs’ that littered your friendship created butterflies and the perfect anxiety of intimacy between you. Although just out of reach, a mutual adoration pulsed with the energy of something new and with the exciting potential to stay.
The velvet clouds of dusk enveloped the last wisps of sunlight as the company set up camp. Moonlight glistened fondly upon tonight’s antics, which permeated the fog of exhaustion clouding the rest of the grumbling company.
"Why are you blinking like that with your eyes? Is everything ok?" As you questioned him, you burst out laughing, your smile widening.
"That was supposed to be a wink!" In a mock shock, he defended himself jokingly. His honeyed voice and expressive hands that weaved through the air sparked a warm glow in your chest.
"A wink? Oh, I’m flattered," You smirked, meeting his gaze, and revelled in the anticipation of spending more time with him.
Rain started to fall gently. Its numbing cold drew you both closer. As it spat more harshly, your bodies instinctively huddled together. It wasn't the kissing in the rain, but the moment right before it. When your eyes met in spluttered out giggles of mutual understanding. Whispered-out confessions between smiling lips and hot touches. Finally, finally, finally, your hearts pounded in your chests as you blinked rain out of your eyes, the world a smudged haze around you. Lips met in a tender sigh of relief that, yes, he feels it too.
‘’Well then, that’s decided. It will be very good for you, and most amusing for me. I shall inform the others’’
‘’Inform the who? What? No, no, no! We do not want any adventures here, thank you! Not today! I suggest you try somewhere over the hill or across the water! Good morning!’’
You heard the door slammed shut as your father stormed back inside the house.
‘’Father, who was that old man?’’ you asked in confusion seeing your father frustrated.
‘’No one you should worry about (y/n)’’ he answered after clearing his throat and leaning on the door.
But then came this noise that made both you and your father frown, wondering what it could be. It sounded like, scrapping..? That was odd. Nonetheless, you and your father went on as if nothing happened. Well, your father acted as if nothing happened, you on the other hand had many more questions about the conversation you heard between your father and that oddly dressed old man, but you knew better than to ask your father for more information.
As the afternoon arrived, you both went out to run some errands. You needed to buy a few ingredients for dinner and so you followed your father as he made his way to the market. Specifically heading towards the stall of a fisherhobbit. After paying for the goods, your father thanked him and placed the fishes in the basket you were holding. As you two walked back home, you came across an elderly of the Shire. Your father talked with him, and you listened.
‘’She looks very much like her mother, stunning just like she was’’
‘’Yes..’’ your father said with a small smile. ‘’She is’’
The conversation ended there, and you made your way back home. Your father seemed sad, he was silently walking whilst kicking small rocks with his feet. You couldn’t help but feel sad at this sight. Your mother died when you were very young. Your father never really talked about it, and you never really asked questions until you became older. With time, you were able to have more information on what happened to your late mother. She lost her life when her and your father explored outside of the Shire and accidentally drowned in a river. This day left your father obviously heart broken, but he gathered all his strength and put it into raising you. Everyone loved your mother. She was kind-hearted, joyful, and selfless. Despite her being a human, she was easily welcomed into the community of The Shire. So, when the news of her death made its way to all Hobbits in town, all mourned her. And all gathered to provide your father with goods to make it easier on him.
That evening as you two ate, the doorbell rang, leaving the both of you confused. Your father got up and walked towards the door and opened it. You couldn’t see much from the dining room, but it looked like a small man at the step of your door. Despite him being small, he in no way looked like a Hobbit. He in fact was a bit taller.
‘’Dwalin, at your service’’ you heard the man say while bowing to your father.
Dwalin? What a strange name you thought. Your father introduced himself using the same sentencing as the man just did, but with more confusion in his voice.
‘’Sorry, do we know each other?’’ your father asked as the man stepped inside the house uninvited.
‘’No’’ he simply replied while looking around as if he was searching for something.
‘’Which way laddie? Is it down here?’’ he continued.
‘’Is what down where?’’ your father asked in utter confusion.
‘’Supper!’’ the man said while tossing his coat at your dad. ‘’He said there’d be food and lots of it’’
‘’He said? Who said?’’
But the man didn’t answer. Instead, he sat down at your father’s chair and started eating the fish that was in front of him. You were quick to get up, uneasy to have a stranger sitting this close to you. Your father walked besides you and stood in front of you. Despite you being half Hobbit half Human, you were short. You took your looks from your mother but had your father’s size. No physical appearance of yours apart of your height could give away that your father is a Hobbit.
You watched as the man ate most of the food that was in his sight. Your father barely got to save two buns so that you two could eat. And as if this stranger wasn’t enough, the doorbell rang again. This time, the man was a bit shorter, but looked much older. He had a long white beard that matched his hair.
‘’Oh! Evening brother!’’ the old man said.
Brother, how could these two be related? You questioned yourself seeing that one was muscular, and that the other was well, rounder. The two banged their head against another and that’s when you realized they were Dwarves. You never seen one with your bare eyes. The only Dwarf you ever seen was a drawing from one of your father’s many books. But they didn’t look like the two standing in your pantry. Your thoughts were quickly interrupted by a third ring of the doorbell.
‘’Fíli’’
‘’And Kíli’’
‘’At your service’’ you heard the two younger Dwarves say in unison as they, much like the others, bowed.
‘’You must be mister Boggins!’’ the dark-haired one said, which made you chuckle silently.
Your father tried to keep them out, and that’s when the other asked if the event has been cancelled.
‘’Cancelled? Nothing’s been cancelled!’’
‘’That’s a relief!’’ Kíli said while stepping inside.
These two seemed less proper than the two before. They walked around and wiped their boots on furniture, much to your father’s displeasure. The youngest Dwarf turned a corner of the house and his eyes met with yours.
‘’Good evening’’ he said with a smile.
‘’Good evening’’ you answered, smiling as well.
The Dwarf turned around and joined the others.
Less than an hour later, your house was filled with Dwarves. 13 of them to be exact. And the oddly dressed old man from this morning was there too. You learned that his name was Gandalf and that he was a wizard. The company, as they called themselves, talked about their quest to regain their homeland. A kingdom called Erebor that rested under a mountain. You listened closely as you were interested in the story. Much like your father, you always had an interest in tales and stories. The Dwarves and Gandalf then talked about few more things the quest involved, and that’s when one of the Dwarves spoke up.
‘’That’s why we need a burglar’’
‘’A good one too. An expert I’d imagine’’ your father replied.
‘’And are you?’’ another Dwarf asked.
‘’Am I what?’’
‘’He said he’s an expert!’’ the first Dwarf expressed with much excitement in his voice.
Your father was quick to deny that statement. After all, the Dwarf needed the aid of an ear trumpet, so he clearly didn’t properly hear what your father said. The oldest Dwarf agreed with your father, saying he hardly was burglar material. But the wizard became irritated and argued his case that your father would be an excellent burglar, noting that Hobbits are light on their feet and that they can go unnoticed easily. The leader of the company, his name was Thorin, agreed to go with Gandalf’s wishes and asked for the members of his troupe to take out the contract so that your father could sign it. As he began to read, your father’s eyes grew big. It wasn’t long before he started feeling faint and you could see it. After a few minutes, all thanks to Bofur, your father passed out. You were quick to kneel by his side to make sure he was alright. When he regained consciousness, you helped him sit in his armchair, where he talked with Gandalf. You listened to them as Gandalf told the tale of your great-great-great-great-great uncle Bullroarer Took during the Battle of Green Fields. And almost as your father was now convinced, he asked the Wizard one simple question.
‘’Can you promise that I will come back?’’
‘’No. But if you do, you will not be the same’’
‘’That’s what I thought’’ your father said with a small sigh. ‘’I’m sorry Gandalf, but I can’t sign this. You’ve got the wrong Hobbit’’
And so, the evening came to an end. You were, in all honesty, disappointed. You wanted to know more, and the only way to be able to do so was to join them in their quest. But you stayed silent as coming against his word wasn’t the right thing to do in the moment.
The next morning you got up and walked downstairs, seeing your father staring at the contract that was lying there on the coffee table. The house was silent, meaning that the Dwarves were gone.
‘’Father?’’
He turned his head to look at you and gave a little smile.
‘’What will you do?’’ you asked.
‘’What will I do?’’ he said with a slight chuckle, almost as if he thought your question was unnecessary. ‘’Nothing of course, why should I go on a quest to steal from a dragon and risk my life doing so’’
‘’Because you love adventures, we both do’’
‘’Loved adventures. It’s all in the past now (y/n). Adventures and quests are something way too dangerous’’
‘’But we would have a chance to explore the world! See it for ourselves after reading about it in books for so many years!’’
‘’We?’’ your father asked. ‘’There is no we. If I were to go, I would not risk the life of my daughter for a group of Dwarves’’
‘’Father..’’ you said while taking his hands. ‘’I’m not a little girl anymore, I can defend myself when needed’’
‘’Against chickens (y/n), the only thing that could threaten us here. The world is far more dangerous than three chickens running after you because you stole their eggs’’
You couldn’t help but chuckle at his words.
‘’I know that father, but they have weapons. They can teach us, teach me how to use one. And if luck is on our side, I would not need to use a weapon ever’’
You smiled a bit sadly and held his hands more tightly.
‘’Mother would have been so excited to be able to go on such journey, don’t you think?’’
‘’She would’ve yes..’’ you father answered sadly.
‘’Then why not honour her by helping them? She wouldn’t want us to stay in here when a chance to explore the world is offered to us’’
Your father looked at you, clicked his tongue, and sighed.
‘’You are convincing.. Way too convincing in fact. Your mother would be proud’’
You smiled and took a quill in your hand.
‘’Let’s go and explore the world then’’ you said with a smile still on your lips.
And that is how you and your father joined the company of Thorin Oakenshield.
So far, the adventure has been easy. You encountered trolls but escaped easily. You then came across goblins, which was a scary part but thankfully you had Kíli and Fíli to reassure you. You grew very close to the brothers as time went on. You pretty much were the same age as Kíli, just a little bit younger, but you two got along as if you knew each other all your lives. Now getting along with the youngest brother meant you got along with the oldest, but he seemed scary at first. He looked way more serious and sterner than his younger brother, but you quickly learned it wasn’t the case. They both goofed around a lot, and both were reckless. They both brought you in their ideas, which was fun to you. Now of course their uncle and your father weren’t fond of you three always wandering off. Their uncle didn’t like it because he wanted both his nephews to be more serious and show they can be responsible, and your father didn’t like it because he was worried that you’d get hurt as you didn’t know what could be out there. The night was slowly falling, and everyone were setting up the camp.
‘’Bifur, take the night watch’’ you heard Thorin say.
The Dwarf nodded and sat by a fallen tree log, resting his back on it. The rest of the company worked on various tasks that would be necessary for the night. Bombur was prepping the food to cook, Dwalin was making a fire as it was colder tonight. The rest were making the place as comfortable as they could.
‘’(y/n), follow me’’ Kíli said low enough so no one else would hear.
You turned around and saw him heading towards the small forest that was behind the camp. You quickly looked at the others to see if anyone was watching you, and when the coast was clear, you walked in the same direction as Kíli. But there was no sign of him, which made you frown.
‘’Kíli?’’
No answer. You looked around in every direction possible to see if you could find him, but it was no use. The forest was getting too dark for you to see him. You then heard a branch breaking behind you and you turned around quickly putting your hand on the hilt of your sword, ready to take it out. That’s when you felt a hand on your shoulder. In a split second you took out your sword and pointed it at the person behind you, making them back against a tree. As you squinted, you recognized the silhouette.
‘’Kíli are you mad? I could’ve hurt you, or worse killed you!’’
‘’You could never kill me’’ your friend said with a smirk on his face.
‘’Are you saying this because I’m a woman? Or because I’m smaller than you?’’ you said with a small scoff while putting away your sword.
‘’None, I’m just too good at fighting that’s why’’ he said on a joking tone.
You chuckled at his words.
‘’Don’t give yourself too many credits, if I must remind you, I was trained by you and your brother, so my skills are pretty sharp’’
Kíli laughed and agreed.
‘’Come, I want to show you something I found earlier’’ he said.
You frown curiously and followed him as he led you deeper into the forest. After a few minutes of walking, you saw a small pond and steam coming out of it.
‘’A hot spring’’ you said with a smile.
Kíli nodded.
‘’I figured you’d want to dip in it since you said you miss taking hot baths’’
You looked at him, a bit shy.
‘’Well yes, but it wouldn’t be safe’’
‘’And why not?’’
‘’Because we are far from the company, and we could get attacked’’ you said.
‘’I thought you said you fighting skills were sharp’’ Kíli answered, yet again smirking.
That smirk had some effect on you, but you couldn’t let it show. Or else he would tease you endlessly.
‘’Well, yes’’ you said, baffling out your words.
Kíli chuckled and started removing his tunic.
‘’What are doing?’’ you asked, thankful that it was dark as your cheeks were getting red.
‘’Going to take a hot bath’’ the prince answered as he set his tunic down on the grass.
You watched as his hands made their way to the laces of his trousers. You tried your best to not show how shy you were, but it was no use. The Dwarf prince could see your flustered look through the darkness, to which he answered with a small chuckle. He quickly removed his boots and trousers before getting in the hot spring. You stayed in your place, not moving an inch.
‘’Well? Are you not going to join me?’’
No words could leave your mouth.
‘’The water is pretty hot and relaxing by the same mean’’ he added as he rested his back against the stones of the pond.
Kíli chuckled again and smiled.
‘’Fine I’ll close my eyes, even though missing such a view will be a shame’’
You nodded in agreement and waited until he closed his eyes to undress. You quickly removed your coat and your tunic before removing your boots and trousers, leaving you naked in the cold air of the night. You were quick to join him in the hot spring before you would freeze, sighing silently as the hot water touches every inch of your body as you lower yourself more and more in the pond.
‘’Comfortable right?’’ Kíli said as he opened his eyes.
‘’Very’’ you answered, making sure that your breasts were hidden by the water.
Kíli smiled and looked at you. You could feel his burning eyes on you, they would not let you out of their sight. You couldn’t help but look at his hairy chest, his long dark hair falling from his shoulders, the tip being wet as it touched the water. You could make out the muscles of his chest and it brought a burning sensation inside of you. Your mind kept telling you to stop staring, that he would notice and that it would be embarrassing as he’d take the opportunity to tease you, but your eyes couldn’t listen. They were stuck to his chest, almost as if they were being hypnotized. And the prince noticed, and he couldn’t help but smirk at the sight. He knew the effect he had on you at this very moment, and he would be lying to himself if he said he didn’t like it. He loved it in fact. Because since he stepped inside your house back in the Shire, he has been obsessed with you. He could only imagine how you look under your dress. That day, your hair was gently tucked back behind your ear, exposing your neck to him and he ever since has been thinking of kissing it. Now your neck was exposed again, much to his liking. And he had to hold back to not pull you closer to him and give in to his fantasies.
The air became hotter, you didn’t know if it was from the hot spring or from the prince in front of you. It became harder to breathe, your chest was raising faster than it normally was. You needed to calm down, and quickly.
‘’The moon is pretty, isn’t it’’ you managed to get out somehow, stuttering the last bit of your sentence, hoping he didn’t notice.
The prince’s eyes looked away from you to stare up at the sky. The moon was full and shining brightly in the dark sky full of stars. There were barely any clouds to hide the beautiful view above.
‘’Yes, it is. Nights like these are some of the prettiest things in this world’’
You agreed with a small hum. While Kíli was looking up, you took the opportunity to sit more comfortably. What you didn’t know though, was that your new position would allow the prince to get a better view of your breasts. And he noticed as soon as he looked back at you. He felt his member harden at the sight but tried his best to keep his composure.
The distant voices of your companions could be heard as they called out that supper was ready.
‘’We should probably go back, before they start looking for us’’ you said, yet again stuttering.
‘’Yes, we shall’’ Kíli agreed, a stutter leaving his lips as well.
You both got out, trying your best not to look at each other, and dressed up as quickly as you could. The warmth of your coat helped keep your body temperature at a warmer temperature, which you were thankful for. You both walked back to camp and enjoyed a nice warm meal.
Weeks went by, the battle for Erebor was just over and thankfully everyone of your company were alright. Hurt, but alive. You and Oín were tending to the wounded, and you just finished bandaging your father’s cuts.
‘’You’ve impressed me a lot during this journey (y/n)’’ your father said while putting his hand on your cheek.
‘’You keep showing me how much your mother would be proud to have a daughter like you’’ he added.
You smiled and put a hand on his.
‘’She would be proud of you too father, for going out and exploring the world. Helping the Dwarves getting their home back’’
Your father smiled and kissed your forehead.
‘’Go tend to the others, I’ll be fine’’
You nodded and watched as he walked towards Thorin. You gathered your material and headed towards Dwalin, but saw that Oín got to him first. You then felt a pair of eyes on you. And you knew too well who it was. You smiled to yourself and turned around, now facing Kíli. You walked to him and kneeled in front of him as he was sitting down. He had a big cut on his right cheek, which was still bleeding down his chin.
‘’What do you think nurse?’’ Kíli asked, making you smile.
The tension between you two was still very present, even more since the dip in the hot spring. His eyes never left you whenever you two were near each other, and it very much was the case right now. His eyes were wandering up and down, taking in every detail of your shape. Your waist was beautifully shaped because of the belt around it, making the dress tighter and looking like an hourglass. Kíli could only wish he could see your hips, but the skirt of your dress hid them. The thing he loved most, was your bust. He loved how plump your breasts looked with how tight the dress was. Even though he couldn’t see much of the actual breasts themselves, he could very well see the shape of them. And it only made his fantasies stronger.
‘’You might need a few stitches’’ you answered as you got closer to him to have a better look.
His eyes directly went to your chest, as it was now too close for him not to look at it. You grabbed a clean cloth and gently wiped his cheek, making him wince in the process. You apologized and gently dabbed the wound to get a better look. Now that the blood was mostly all gone, you had a better understanding of how deep the cut was, and it thankfully wasn’t that bad.
‘’It’s not as deep as I thought, but you’ll still need a few stitches’’ you said while grabbing a needle and some thread.
Kíli watched you as you passed the thread through the eye of the needle.
‘It will sting’’ you warned as you gently held his cheek.
‘’It’s fine, it’s not like I never had stitches before’’ he said with a chuckle.
You smiled and asked if you could start, to which he nodded. You guided the needle through his wounded cheek and watched as he frowned, holding his knee tightly. You apologized and continued with your actions, stitching his cut in no time.
‘’All done’’ you said as you gently dabbed the cloth on his wound again.
‘’Thank you’’ the prince said while gently touching the stitches you just gave him.
‘’Don’t touch it, your hands aren’t clean, and I don’t want you to get an infection’’
Kíli nodded and put his hand away.
‘’Is your duty as nurse over?’’ he then asked.
You looked around and saw that Oín took care of the last person in need of treatment.
‘’Yes, all done’’ you answered while wiping your hands with another cloth than the one you just used.
‘’Then would you come with me to explore the kingdom?’’
You got a bit shy at his request. It wouldn’t be the first time you spend alone time with him, but it would be the first time since the hot spring. Nonetheless, you agreed happily. Kíli smiled while getting up, took your hand and led you down a staircase. The young prince had the chance to explore Erebor before he and the others joined the battle, so he knew exactly where he wanted to take you. You on the other hand were clueless, part of it because you never went any further than the entrance and the throne room, but also because you couldn’t tell what he wanted you to see. After getting down another flight of stairs, you made it to a smaller room where many jewels were. The sight was of course breathtaking, you have never seen any jewels, let alone so many.
‘’Unbelievable that these treasures were untouched. Smaug could’ve easily taken them with him, although he cared more for the gold than for anything else’’ Kíli said while walking to a table.
You followed him, almost scared to touch anything as you felt like it wasn’t yours to hold.
‘’Don’t be scared’’ the prince said almost as if he read your mind. ‘’You can touch the gems’’
You nodded and walked closer to the table he was standing in front of. There laid many small purple gems.
‘’Amethyst, right?’’ you asked as you reached for a bigger one that laid in the middle of the others.
Kíli nodded and smiled.
‘’You like them?’’
You answered with a nod and glanced more closely at the gem in your hand.
‘’It’s beautiful. I saw so many drawings of it in my father’s books.. I never thought I’d lay eyes on one, let alone hold one’’
‘’The color suits you’’ he said as he got closer to you. ‘’It’s the same color as the dress you were wearing when we first met’’
‘’I always loved the color purple’’ you said smiling. ‘’It’s the color of so many beautiful things.. Lilac, lavender, purple emperors, and lilac-breaster rollers’’
Kíli smiled as you listed everything.
‘’Beautiful things indeed’’ he said, grabbing your hand in which the gem was. ‘’But I know of something far prettier than all those you said’’
‘’And that is?’’
‘’You’’
You felt your cheeks change colors, a hot sensation taking over them. Kíli chuckled at your shy expression.
‘’You’re cute when flustered’’ he said, which only made you shier.
You couldn’t get a single word out, your mouth was glued shut and so was Kíli’s hand around yours you just noticed. His other hand then made its way to your red cheek, which made you look at him.
‘’(y/n)’’ he said, his tone more serious. ‘’I have to be honest and tell you the reason I brought you here, and I hope that you won’t hate me for it’’
Your eyebrows frowned in confusion, and in a slight fright too as you feared what he would say.
‘’Ever since the day I first laid eyes on you, I couldn’t take you off my mind. Everyday I thought about you, thought of how kind and how beautiful you are. I love every moment I spent with you, you make my heart warmer. And during the battle, all I could think of was that I needed to survive to see you again. You were my strength, and those wounds I got, I got them for you amrâlimê’’
You could not get what you were hearing. Not that you didn’t understand it, you understood all of what he said, all except from that last word. You didn’t know a single word in khuzdul. You watched as he reached a hand in his pocket and took out a small metal bead, which had an amethyst hanging from it. You recognized immediately what it was, having seen many in the Dwarves hair. It was a braiding bead. You didn’t know why he was offering you one, but you couldn’t take your eyes off it as you thought it was so beautifully made.
‘’In our culture, hair braiding is obviously very common, but there is one specific braiding that means more than others to us.. Courtship braiding is a tradition in which a braid is done and is clasped using one of these’’ he said, now holding the bead in his fingers.
‘’And so.. I wanted to know..’’
You looked at him, waiting for him to finish his sentence.
‘’I wanted to know if you would want to be mine, and only mine’’ he said.
You couldn’t believe it. Was this really happening? After weeks of you dreaming of that moment, it finally was coming to reality.
‘’Kíli..’’ you watched the bead in his hand. ‘’Are you sure about this?’’
‘’More than anything. I love you amrâlimê, more than I ever loved or will love anyone’’
‘’But.. I’m not of your kin.. Would it even be allowed?’’ you said while looking at him with tears in your eyes. ‘’You’re a son of Durin, aren’t you expected to marry within your kin?’’
‘’My uncle and my mother cannot control my heart (y/n), and besides, I’m not the heir’’ he said, gently rubbing your cheek with his free one, a soft smile drawing on his lips.
You were still scared. What if Thorin gets angry at him for not respecting the tradition of the line of Durin.
‘’Amrâlimê, trust me’’
‘’I do trust you, I’m just worried’’ you said silently.
‘’And I promise you don’t have to be’’
You nodded, putting your hand on his left cheek.
‘’Then yes Kíli, I will be yours’’
Kíli smiled widely and gently brought you closer before kissing your soft lips. The kiss lasted a few seconds, as none of you wanted to let go of each other. After both waiting for so long, you didn’t want it to stop.
‘’You are beautiful amrâlimê’’
You still had no idea what it means, but it sounded so well as it rolled off his tongue. You were drawn to the sound of that word.
‘’Amrâlimê’’ you repeated. ‘’What does it mean?’’
‘’My love’’ Kíli answered, smiling.
You smiled too and kissed him again.
‘’May I?’’ he asked, gently grabbing a lock of your hair in his fingers.
You nodded and turned around for him to braid your hair. He did a simple braid on the left side of your head. His touch was gentle, it was almost relaxing. You smiled as you felt him clasp the end of your braid with the bead. After he finished, he turned you around and looked at you.
‘’So beautiful’’ he said while rubbing your cheek.
‘’Should I make you one too?’’ you asked.
‘’Of course, amrâlimê’’
He took out another bead, exactly like yours and gave it to you. You did the same as him, braiding his left side while making sure to be as gentle as he was. Kíli loved your touch, it was sweet and showed how caring you were.
‘’All done’’ you said while closing the bead at the end of the braid.
The prince, who was now yours, turned around and kissed you again. The kiss was more passionate and showed how much love he had for you.
‘’I love you’’ he said against your lips.
‘’And I you, amrâlimê’’
Imagine: Another man kisses you
Thorin, Fíli, Kíli, Bilbo's reactions when another man kisses you.
Tumblr media
Thorin
Thorin and you are courting for a short time, and as he is the King while you’re a simple woman, you prefer to hide it. Who could believe the King court you anyway?
You easily hide it until a night of festivities.
A banquet is held in honour of the spring festival. The King is with his family, friends, and some advisers while you’re in another corner of the big room of festivities with your friends. The night is fun and you eat and drink too much, so you sing and laugh non-stop. Then, a long friend of yours offers you to dance. It’s not the first time you dance with him, and you know he is a good dancer, so you accept.
The dance is nice and fun until you feel his hand on your back presses you against him and his lisp on yours. He acts too quickly given the quantity of alcohol you drank, but when you understand what’s happening, you move away from him. He holds you by the wrist and pulls a little. “I-I’m sorry,” he stammers. “I thought you–”
“Oh, hm, it’s alright,” you say as you try to take your hand back.
“It’s anything but alright,” Thorin says behind you with his sword in hand. He had run through the crowd with his sword, more furious than ever. The music stops, and everyone is looking at you, some of them whispering.
Thorin takes your hand from your friend and pulls you behind him. “If you touch, or even look at her once again, I kill you. Understand?”
Your friend is freezing while Thorin exclaims again, “Understand?”
“Y-yes, my King,” he eventually replies, trembling.
Then, after Thorin puts his sword away, he turns to you and kisses you in front of everyone. Not a simple kiss. A kiss that makes your knees weak and your breath hard.
“If anyone touches her, I’ll kill him!” he shouts to the crowd.
You pull his hand, so embarrassed by his behaviour, “Thorin, please calm down, they will believe it…”
“I hope they’ll believe it!” he smirks as he kisses you again before he pulls on your hand to follow him out.
Note: Out where? You know where, right? 😏
Tumblr media
Fíli
“He what?” Fíli shouts, startling Kíli while he was telling his last evening in a tavern with you and other friends. “He knows my feelings about her and he still kissed her!”
Fíli is so furious that he doesn’t know how to calm down after hearing one of their friends kissed you. Well, now he is not one of their friends. “He was drunk, and you know it already, he likes her too. Maybe they’re together now. You should have talked to her when you could, and I shouldn't say that if I want to stay alive.”
Furious’ Fíli’s glare is now on his brother as he stands up from his chair. “Where are you going?” Kíli asks, looking at his brother walking to the door while the sky was dark and cold because of the snow.
“I must talk to her. Now,” Fíli says before he gets out and runs to you.
At the same time, you were closing your shop. Some customers inside were still hesitant on their purchase, but you don’t rush them. Leaning on your elbows on your counter, you’re thinking of the last night and the kiss your friend gave you. You’re glad Fíli wasn’t there because you don’t know how you could face him after that. You would have given anything for him to be the one who kissed you yesterday.
Lost in your thoughts, Fíli enters and runs to your counter, ignoring the customers. You’re so surprised that you can’t speak when he stops and looks at you. He sighs and runs his hand through his hair when he sees no news braids in your hair.
“Is there a problem, Prince Fíli?” you eventually ask while the customers are looking at you more than the things you sell. You let Fíli catch his breath when you take customers out of your shop to talk to him alone.
“Now, tell me what’s happening. You start to worry me…” you say as you walk in front of him.
He stands up straight, looks in your eyes and takes your hands. “Will you marry me?”
You obviously freeze. Surely for a long time since he ends up pulling your hands toward him, so that you take a step towards him. “I’m sorry. What did you say?” you ask as you’re not sure to listen to him well.
Fíli raises a hand to your face and slowly puts it on your cheek. As his thumb strokes your lips, he looks at it, completely mesmerised by them. “Fíli?” you ask even though his hand doesn’t bother you at all, but his behaviour still worries you.
He leans so closer to you that you feel his breathing on your skin. “Can I kiss you?” he whispers.
Then, you can’t help but smile when you understand his behaviour has something to do with yesterday. You barely have the time to say ‘yes’ that he draws you to a passionate kiss.
Breathless, he pulls away from you, his eyes sparkling, “I hope you said ‘yes’ for the two questions.”
Note: Alright, I got carried away. Now you’re married to him. Congratulations 🎉
Kíli
Tonight, you will do what you planned for days. Tonight, you will see if Kíli has feelings for you!
You've been friends with him for a long time, and as he is kind and flirty with everyone, you don’t know how you should take it. But, you, however, have feelings for him, and you want to know if you have a chance or not.
Speaking about it with him is obviously out of the question, so you planned to dance with a friend of yours tonight and see his reaction.
Here you are. In a warm, festive, and louder huge room to celebrate Durin’s Day. Food, ale, wine, music, drunk singers, drunk dancers, … The party has started for a long time and when you look at your friend with a smirk, he understands what you mean. He already knows your plan and he agreed with you, any pretext is good to annoy Kíli with all the jokes he has made to everyone.
Your friend is quite a good dancer and you have a good time with him. When the dance is over, he takes your hand to get you out from the dance floor, and as Kíli still hasn’t reacted, he presses you against him and kisses you. At first, you’re so surprised that you don’t react, but when you realise what he is doing, you pull away from him. “W-what are you doing? We–You–!” The surprise still makes you lose your words.
Kíli, from where he is, sees everything. Fíli doesn’t need to nudge him, but he does it anyway. “Did you see that? It seems it’s too late for you, brother.” But when Kíli sees you frowning and trying to move away from your friend, he stands up and walks toward you.
Your friend still presses you against him when Kíli arrives. “She doesn’t seem to like it, lad. Maybe you should release her.” The severe tone that Kíli uses surprises you. Your friend releases you immediately and walks away with a smile, without any apology. You will make him pay later.
“Follow me,” Kíli says as he takes your hand and pulls on it. He leads you in a quiet corner. You’re both alone and he ends up asking, “Are you alright?” as he puts his hands on your shoulders.
“No, I’m not. He–he kissed me!” you say, upset and embarrassed to be in front of Kíli after that.
“Yeah, I saw it,” he sighs as he strokes your shoulders, trying to comfort you.
“But-but I didn’t want it!” you exclaim as you raise your head to him, hoping he believes you just with your eyes and your words.
“You danced with him with such a cute smile, and you look like you’re having a good time. I can easily understand him. What did you expect?” Kíli’s eyes betray his calm tone. He tries to hide his irritation, even if his hands start to squeeze your shoulders unintentionally.
“What did I expect? I expected you would be jealous! I expected you would steal me from him!” you exclaim, hitting his chest with such weak strength that Kíli doesn’t even move. “I expected you would kiss me!”
You try to calm down, but you still exhale noisily from the nose, like a bull about to change its prey. Avoiding his eyes, you don’t see him smiling and says, “You danced with him on purpose to make me jealous.” It isn’t a question. “You should have come straight to me if you wanted to kiss me,” he resumes as one of his hands goes up to your cheek and the other goes down to your waist.
“I want you to kiss me only if you like me!” You look at him seriously. “Oh amrâlimê, it’s not a problem,” he whispers before kissing you.
Note: I always end up with an idiot in love with Kíli. I should try to change one day 🤷‍♀️
Bilbo
Bilbo and you started to court since the quest, and now you live with him in Bag End. You’re even betrothed, but no one knows yet.
You absolutely don’t know any Hobbits’ habits or customs, but you’re glad Bilbo teaches you them every day. They are simple and always nice.
Speaking of nice, Lobelia and her son Lotho are nicer than you thought compared to what Bilbo told you. You feel Lobelia doesn’t like you but she’s not mean to you, and her son helped you sometimes when you were lost in the marketplace.
Then speaking of Hobbits’ customs, tonight is one of Bilbo’s uncle's birthdays. You’re both invited, in fact almost everyone is. Bilbo doesn’t want to leave his home, but you are finally able to convince him.
When you say ‘birthday’, you say ‘cake’! As you’re walking with two plates of the birthday cake, one for you and the other for Bilbo, Lotho joins you with a smile. He is with his friends but he talks to you.
“Is this piece of cake for me?” he asks, showing a plate.
As you want to stay friendly with him, you nod with a smile, “yes, you can take it if you want.” Then, he takes it while one of his friends says, “Now the kiss!”
You look at him strangely, not understanding what he’s talking about. Lotho laughs lightly, “It’s just an old hobbit’s custom. When someone gives you a piece of cake, you must kiss him on the mouth, otherwise it's bad luck for the person who gets the cake.”
“Oh,” it’s the only thing you can say with a step away. Even if you don’t want to kiss him, you don't want to get Bilbo in trouble. So you kiss him quickly and all his friends shout of joy.
Bilbo, who was looking for you and his piece of cake, hears Lotho’s friends shooting and sees you in the middle of them with a strange behaviour. He walks to you with a smile, asking if everything is alright. You're hesitant to ask him if what you did is really a hobbit’s custom, but you’re too embarrassed to speak.
Then, Lotho says, “Your woman’s lips taste great!”. His friends laugh with him.
“I beg your pardon?” Bilbo politely asks as he turns to him. Then, he turns back to you and notices your eyes getting wet. “What did you do, Lotho?”
“Me? Nothing,” Lotho continues to smile. “She is the one who kisses me. Right, Y/n?” This sly hobbit waited for a long time to find a way to break your relationship. Like his mother, he doesn't want to start a family with his cousin and so, keep him away from Bag End even more.
When Bilbo turns once again to you, you try to explain to him, but you can’t. You try to run away, but he grabs your hand. “What was it? Hmm strawberries and wine, I think,” Lotho continues.
Bilbo ignores him and takes your other hands. His eyes reassure you and you eventually explain everything to him. When you start apologising, he lets go of your hands and walks to Lotho, who is still laughing with his friends.
Without waiting, Bilbo grabs Lotho by the collar of his shirt and pulls him toward him. “I’m not a violent hobbit, but Lotho, I can promise you if you touch her once again, you won’t be able to speak for days. Have I made myself clear?”
You’re as frozen as Lotho’s friends. As for Lotho, Bilbo's grip is so firm that he can hardly speak. After Bilbo asks him again, he stammers a positive answer. He eventually lets him go and gives a last look to his friends before joining you.
You have never seen him so upset, not even during the quest. He takes your hands and pulls on it. You lean to him and he kisses you passionately. “Follow me home, we have to erase it better,” he whispers in your ear.
Note: The protective behaviour of the dwarves has rubbed off on him. 🤭
Fluttering Heart
Fluffober Day 13: Soulmates
Kili Durin x f!human!reader
Word Count: 1.5k
AN: OMG! This has definitely been my favorite to write so far. I love Kili with my whole heart and that for sure came out while I was writing. I really want to see about making this a longer series once October ends, if anyone wants to see that leave a comment and let me know.
The culture of the dwarves is much like their treasure, kept under lock and key. Histories, customs, and traditions all are played very close to the chest of the stubborn race. The only beings who are let in on the secret are those lucky enough to be a fated match.
There are different names for these matches in every culture, Soulmates, true loves, twin flames. The dwarves called them Ones. To find your one was said to be the best day of your life. At least that is what Kili thought, he wouldn’t know though. He hadn’t met his yet.
His uncle’s one had been the Hobbit, Bilibo took longer to fall than Thorin but fell just as hard if not harder than the dwarf. The two were very much in love, it was sickening. His mother’s One had been his father, and he doesn’t remember much about their time together. Fee’s One was a lovely lass that had come from the Blue Mountains to try and establish herself as a seamstress under the mountain.
All of them had told him how wonderful finding their Ones was, even Thorin whose One was not of the race of Dwarf and thusly did not feel the same pull that he had. Thorin had to actually make Bilbo fall in love with him, which amused Kili to no end when it was happening because of how much their two personalities seemed to clash.
Kili hates spending time under the mountain now, he loves Erebor and takes pride in the fact that he was one of the brave few who had reconquered it, but everywhere he looked he saw people being happy with something he did not have.
The feeling went much deeper than those childhood squabbles he had had with Fili when the two pebbles had played together. Jealousy over toys was easily remedied, the ache that had recently taken up residence in Kili’s heart was much more difficult to push aside or fix.
So he had taken to going for walks. He had volunteered himself too many times to be the point of contact for the King of Dale. He had told Thorin it was because he wanted to prove that he could be trusted with matters of diplomacy. He might not be next in line, but he was still a prince and could take care of these things. It was on one of these trips to Dale that Kili met the very person who would change his life.
She was of the race of men and seemed to work in one of the few taverns that housed the nightlight of the town. Kili was in a sort of informal meeting with Bard, his son Bain, and the Captain of the Guard. They were discussing a deal between the two kingdoms where Erebor would provide the army of Dale with iron-forged armor and weapons and in turn, Dale would pledge their allegiance to the kingdom under the mountain in any future battle. Kili couldn’t help but find the humor in the reversal of roles as if the company had not asked and pledged the same things five years ago. This clause was only one of the facets that made up the current peace treaty in the works. It was Kili’s idea to have the meeting in a less tense and stuffy room than they were previously held in.
“Everybody has to eat Bard, why don’t we eat and talk at the same time? I’m sure we’d all be much more comfortable.” Bard had agreed at the behest of Bain who had laughed and reminded his father of the last time he had had a proper meal. After that the men had embarked towards Bard’d favorite tavern. And judging by the way he had jovially called out to the man behind the bar, he was at least acquainted with the people who worked there.
Their waitress was a beautiful woman, who had skills like Kili had never seen, and he had been in a lot of taverns. She was able to carry three trays of piping hot food at the same time and at one point he had even seen her stack and move at least twelve pint glasses to a rowdier table towards the back of the establishment. And she did all this with the most beautiful smile he had ever seen.
If only he would actually get to talk to her. The tavern was busy and she seemed to be one of the only other people working besides the man behind the bar and whoever was preparing the food to be served. She was never in the same place for a very long time. After she had gotten their initial order she had placed their pints down and immediately zipped off to fulfill the next request.
Without the ability to actually talk to her, Kili had to settle for second-hand knowledge. “So what can you tell me about the woman who served us?” Kili asked nobody in particular.
“Why, do you fancy her?” Came Bain’s reply.
“No, but any woman that can carry that much and move that fast without wasting a drop is certainly one I want to get to know.”
“Her name is y/n, She’s apprenticed to Brant, the man who owns this tavern. She arrived in Dale a year or two ago. I think she's from Bree but she's settled here. I think she has an arraignment with him, when he finally retires the place will be hers.” Bard had explained, throwing a somewhat scolding glance at his son. Kili might be young and more carefree than his uncle but he is still a prince and Bard did not wish to offend him.
“Interesting, any idea why she left Bree? It’s quite a long journey to take on your own?” Kili asked.
“Why don’t you ask her?” A third, much more feminine voice replied. Kili who had not seen her make her way over to their table, had nearly jumped out of his skin. The other men tried and failed to his their amusement at his predicament. “After all, I’m sure she’d be willing to tell you as long as she didn’t catch you talking about her when she wasn’t around.”She had said all of this was a smile spread across her face and delight in her voice. Kili wasn’t really sure how she felt about his impolite inquiries, but she hadn't chased him out of the establishment with a broom yet, so he thought he was okay.
“I’ve gotten everyone else settled and thought I’d come visit the King, how are you this evening King Bard?” her attention was firmly placed on the King of Dale now, and Kili longed for her piercing gaze to once again land on him.
“I’ve told you, it’s just Bard, all of this King nonsense will just go to my head,”
“Of course King Bard.” She smirked and turned towards the rest of the men. “Anything else I can get you, gentlemen?” With a firm nod at their order, she spun and headed back towards the bar.
“I think I’m in love.” Kili had said under his breath.
“I think it’ll take you much more than that to win her over.” Bain had replied, hearing Kili’s self-confession. “Every time we’re in here I see her turn down men. Granted, most of them are usually drunkards but the principle is the same.”
Kili was certain that the fluttering in his chest and the feeling of light-headedness had to mean something. And given that both the feelings had started right after she had spoken to him, he was pretty sure he knew what it was.
“Here you are boys, four more pints and a basket of bread, on the house.” She had placed the basket of bread and little bowls of butter and honey on the table. When she pulled her hand away it bumped into Kili and sent a wave of shocks all the way up his arm.
Soft fingers stroked your cheek gently, making you stir awake from your slumber. You see Kilis brown eyes fill with warmth, as you woke up beside him. After the two of you decided to court, you were basically inseparable. You even shared a bedroom with the prince, which of course he doesn’t mind.
“Good morning Amrâlimé. Did you sleep well?” A smile graced your lips, as his groggy morning voice filled your ears. “How could I ever sleep bad beside you my love?” Your arms snaked tighter around him. Head on his chest you listened to his heartbeat. Chuckling at your words, he gave you a gentle kiss on the top of your head.
“Well if we consider yesterday-“ Your hand slapped at his chest playfully to stop him from finishing his sentence. Yesterday was another one of the infamous festivities that are celebrated in Erebor. And of course you attended them with Kili by your side. So one thing led to the other and now you were waking up beside him, completely bare.”You are such a tease.” You say while hiding the blush on your face by cuddling further into his chest.
One of his hands moved from your back to your head. His fingers nimbly brushed through your hair to get rid of knots while you hummed contently. You loved it when he played with your hair. And so did he. One of your favourite past time activities is braiding each other’s hair. Sometimes you sing during these times. And sometimes Kili plays a few soft notes on the flute while you add cute accessories into his braid.
You remember the first time you braided his hair. You were on your journey to win Erebor back when you found beautiful wildflowers which you thought would look stunning in Kilis hair. So you asked him if you could do so. Which resulted in him suddenly getting really quiet and blushing a bit while nodding. After you have finished his braid he asked you if you knew what it meant to braid a dwarfs hair. And so he explained the customs of courting to you. Which in return coloured your cheeks red. He even offered you a courting bead.
The sudden kiss on your lips takes you back to your reality. Smiling softly you let your hands brush over his stubble. “I love you Kili.” You gave him another soft peck. A sigh left his lips, as he pulled you closer. “Let me show you how much I love you Amrâlimé.”
Relationships: Thorin Oakenshield & Dis & little Fili & Kili Rating: G Warnings: family fluff Author's notes: A story set in the Blue Mountains about Thorin trying to be both a ruler and a good uncle at once. Young Fili and Kili are making it a tad difficult in their own cute way. Special thanks to @naryaflame for your linguistic help with a name :) If you prefer, you can read this fic on AO3.
Khuzdul: Thorinuldûm - Thorin’s Halls, the settlement of the refugees from the Lonely Mountain in the Blue Mountains Amad - mother
Tumblr media
1.
It was a perfect morning. Thorin stretched and yawned, settling himself on his favourite chair in the kitchen. The air that whiffed into the dwarven stronghold from the outside felt warm on his cheeks and smelled like spring. As he sipped his morning tea, that strong, aromatic blend Dori bought in Bree, his sister appeared at the threshold. She gave Thorin a bright smile and, seeing her steaming mug on the table, she sat next to him. The lazy silence of the early hours of the day was soon broken by the appearance of two dishevelled pebbles, one with a thatch of golden hair, the other – with his hair as brown as a bear’s fur in winter. After the mandatory morning hugs, Thorin readied breakfast while Dís prepared her sons for the day, humming to herself. Thorin could not stop himself from smiling. His sister was probably already thinking of her visit to the market. She adored going there in the morning, especially on the days when the merchants arrived with new goods – and today was one of those days. Thorin sighed. As much as he wanted her to have a very much needed moment of respite – his sister-sons were quite a handful, to put it mildly – he was painfully aware of what it was going to mean to him. Half a day of having his eyes around his head and his ears pricked up for any unusual noises they may create… or worse – the ominous silence. In the past, there was only a handful of moments when he and Dís realised that the boys went completely silent. It never bode well.
This day, however, started with the pitter-patter of the boys’ bare feet, chatter and laughter, and the clatter of their bowls as they ate their oatmeal. Dís reminded them to behave while she was gone, and left for the market. Fíli seemed very content about this state of things, knowing well by now that staying with his mother’s brother meant visiting various places in these halls, like forges, or assisting Thorin in other exciting ways. It was different with Kíli – his loud wails of protest at being so cruelly abandoned reverberated against the walls of their home. Thorin imagined they must have followed their mother through the corridors of Thorinuldûm for a long while. Her Little Bear, as Dís called him, was still too young to understand the connection between Mommy leaving, and the sudden appearance of candied rhubarb or his favourite cream toffees.
Distracting Kíli from his misery was not easy, but Thorin managed it by offering to take the boys for a new adventure. Their big blue eyes shone as he told them they would be going to the lower levels of the city together. It was a real treat – Kíli had never been there before and Fíli visited them only a handful of times.
Thorin had a mind to visit the Engineers’ Quarter and show the lads around while discussing some technical issues with one of the water engineers. And so they began their adventure. As they descended down the wide stone stairs Kíli stumbled and yawned, so Thorin decided to carry him the rest of the way. Soon Little Bear began snoring in his arms, and Thorin attempted to ignore the fact that his own tunic was becoming gradually soaked through with his nephew’s saliva. He also started suspecting that the moniker “Little Bear” must have surely come from the fact that Kíli seemed to weigh more and more with every step, like a true bear.
“At least he is not crying,” Thorin muttered to himself, and kept on walking. Thank Mahal for silver linings.
As they arrived at their destination, however, the situation got worse. The Engineers’ Quarter was a crowded place that smelled like tar, coal, and burned leather. Not minding the much larger adult dwarves in their soot-stained clothes who carried – or carted – their wares from one place to another, curious Fíli began rushing between them, oblivious of the chaos he was creating. He took a look at the wheelwright’s workshop here, and then he had to see the toolmaker’s booth there; he then insisted on seeing how parchment was being made, and attempted to find the place where they manufactured those shiny cogwheels. If not for his golden mane, Thorin would have lost his nephew at least a couple of times. Brór, the water engineer he had a meeting with, joined Thorin in the chase for the high-spirited boy. Instead of looking at the water supply pipeline blueprints and trying to fix a problem with water pressure, they ended up unwillingly playing a hide-and-run game to the delight of the onlookers. Seeing your own king running back and forth through the great cavern with one giggling pebble strapped to his chest while chasing after the other one must have been very amusing… for anyone but him, Thorin thought with resignation. His resignation grew even more when he noticed Fíli climbing onto a tall work table… and jumping down onto a heap of coal.
When Thorin finally caught the runaway, they were both out of breath. Although it was rather Fíli who caught his uncle – the boy ran into him and clung to his left leg as if a throng of orcs chased him.
Fíli raised his teary-eyed face to Thorin and sobbed out, “A monster wanted to eat meeee…”
“A monster? Here?” Thorin’s brow furrowed.
It took him a while to reassure Fíli that no monster was going to eat him. In turn, Thorin promised to get rid of the said monster that apparently lurked in a nearby chamber, and shrieked at him. He left his nephews in the care of Brór who tried to look solemn, but his twitching lips betrayed him. Thorin grunted and entered the chamber, carefully looking around, adjusting his eyes to the dark surroundings. And then he saw two glowing points of red. And heard the shrieking.
2.
When Thorin returned to Brór, Kíli was fast asleep once again. Leaving Little Bear in the engineer’s care once again, he took Fíli’s hand and led him to the entrance of the dark chamber. When they opened the door, they both heard the continuous shrieking now. His nephew stopped and refused to walk inside, covering his ears and closing his eyes.
“There are no monsters here, Fíli.” Thorin reassured the boy. “See for yourself.”
“Nnoooo…” muttered Fíli, hiding behind his uncle.
“Do not be afraid,” Thorin added. “Nothing will hurt you here. I promise.”
On the bench by the door stood a lantern. It took him a moment to light it. With the lantern in hand, Thorin crossed the threshold and approached the nearest lantern that hung on the wall, and then another, and another. Soon, the whole chamber was bright as day, each lantern giving off a pleasant yellow glow.
“You can come in now,” Thorin smiled encouragingly.
With his ears covered and his eyes set on the shrieking, wobbling entity in the middle of the chamber, Fíli shook his head.
“This is not a monster.” Thorin stepped towards the huge bulbous shape that made so much noise. He placed his hand on the top of the strange shaking thing and added, “This is a washing barrel.”
Fíli blinked and took a good look at it. The two red glowing points did not look like a pair of evil eyes any longer. Those were two ball-shaped lanterns standing on top of the… thing. That shrieking noise now seemed to sound like a couple of cogwheels that needed a bit of oil, and not like a monster’s screech. And the arm that seemed to reach out to grab him before, turned out to be a cast iron lever.
“A… barrel?” Fíli looked at his uncle and took one uncertain step towards him and the strange contraption.
“Correct. A barrel that washes your clothes,” Thorin explained in an even voice and at the same moment the shrieking stopped. “Look, it has just finished the washing cycle. Let me show you how it works. First, you open this hatch, like so… Watch out for the water! These clothes are clean, they only need to be wrung out and dried.”
As he spoke, Fíli slowly started closing the distance between them, his eyes becoming wider and wider.
“... but if you want to wash your clothes,” Thorin continued, “you need to put them inside, here, and add some soap suds. Then you close the hatch, pour some water here, crank this lever a few times, do this, like so, and wait for the washing barrel to finish its work!”
Thorin kept on talking until Fíli seemed to be completely in awe of this new piece of machinery, his fear completely forgotten. He peppered his uncle with tons of questions: how many cogwheels were there, how many times one should crank the lever, what the barrel was made of… and so on, and so forth. When they left the chamber, there was a big smile on the boy’s lips instead of tears.
On their way back home Fíli exclaimed, “This was the bestest adventure ever!”
Thorin thought that sometimes being an uncle happened to be quite rewarding. Even if his tunic was still wet from Kíli’s sleepy drooling.
***
His attitude completely changed less than half an hour later, when his nephews disappeared. Both of them. At once.
Stumbling over several painfully angular wooden toys, Thorin searched the boys’ bedroom. Nothing. He even looked under their beds (twice!), but there was no sign of the boys anywhere. They weren't sitting in the common kitchen nor searching for snacks in the pantry. Nor in Dwalin’s rooms where Kíli liked to play hide-and-scare with the big warrior. There were nowhere to be found – not in the rocking chair by the fireplace, nor even in Balin’s study by that large desk where Fíli liked to play so often. Thorin closed his eyes. If he did not find his nephews before Dís returned from the market, his sister would have Thorin’s own head on a spike. The wrath of dwarf-women was ten times fiercer than the one of dwarf-men. In the case of his little sister, the number was much higher, at least a hundred times. And Thorin would do everything he could to avoid being on the receiving end of it.
There was no time to lose. He recruited Dwalin, Óin, and Halkatla, Balin’s wife, to the task of finding the boys, but they returned empty-handed. No one had seen the boys since their early lunch. Then, they were supposed to take a nap, and Thorin remembered their yawning as they closed the door to their bedroom behind him.
And now they were gone. Kidnapped? — No, impossible, Thorin thought. Dwarves cherished their children like the greatest treasures they were, and no one else was allowed into Thorinuldûm. There were no goblins nor other dangers here either. It felt as if the boys magically disappeared in a puff of smoke. Thorin looked around the wide corridor he stood in, but he found no traces of the missing boys.
“Have you checked all of their favourite places?” Halkatla asked, her red-and-silver braids clinking as she turned her head towards Óin.
“Aye, we did,” he nodded. “Not a sign of them.”
“Those wee rascals! I bet they are up to somethin’.” Dwalin said. “They remind me of us. Remember that time, Thorin, when we were around their age or so, and half of Erebor was lookin’ for us all day long?”
“It would be difficult to forget it,” Thorin admitted. “We wanted to avoid another boring lesson with our tutor…”
“...and instead we went to explore the mines! What a shame we lost our way,” Dwalin grinned and nudged him. “It was fun!”
“Aye, fun on an empty belly. If only you had not forgotten our food,” Thorin replied, relieved that his nephews had a proper meal at least.
“If only ye had not forgotten that map ye were supposed to borrow from your father’s desk,” Dwalin chuckled.
Before Thorin could form an adequate riposte, a mousy-haired dwarf approached him.
“M’lord, Master Brór says that the pipeline is fully functional again,” the messenger bowed.
Thorin gave him a nod of thanks. At least he brought a piece of good news. Master Brór was a skilled engineer, and the way he handled Thorin’s own sister-sons…
“Either way,” Dwalin continued, “we had a real adventure on that day, hadn’t we, Thorin?”
A thought appeared in Thorin’s mind. Master Brór. An adventure.
“There was one place where we have not searched yet,” he turned to his companions.
“I am listening,” Halkatla tilted her head, reminding him of a curious raven.
“The Engineers’ Quarters.”
***
Master Brór was more than happy to receive words of thanks from Thorin in person for fixing that pipeline issue once and for all. Despite Thorin’s hopes, he had not seen Fíli or Kíli since they left the Engineers’ Quarters with their uncle earlier that day. Dwalin muttered a curse under his breath.
“Well, that’s it. I’m goin’ to check the workshops,” the warrior said.
“I’ll take the ones on the left, you take the ones on the right,” Halkatla followed him.
“Let’s go,” Dwalin replied, his voice trailing off as he walked away. “And those wee cave bats would better be there or I swear…”
Master Brór addressed Thorin, “I will spread the word as you requested, my lord. Someone must have seen them, I am certain of it. They could not have simply disappeared.”
Thorin agreed with him and began his own search. The rocks could not have swallowed them whole! Magic was out of the question as well, there had to be a logical solution to this! Thoring pulled at his short beard in frustration. Wandering through the area and looking for any signs of his nephews in places they visited earlier that day, he wondered if Óin had any luck. The healer was waiting at their home in case Fíli and Kíli returned there on their own. Perhaps the three of them were already sitting by the fire, with Óin telling the boys countless amusing stories, while Thorin and his companions were checking every nook and cranny on the lower level, going out of their minds with worry. He raised his head, listening to a peculiar sound and trying to figure out its source. It sounded like… shrieking. It was not at all difficult to recall Fíli’s eyes shining with fear, awe, and then curiosity at the sight of the washing barrel.
Without thinking, Thorin turned his steps towards the chamber that housed the “monster” Fíli had been so afraid of not so long ago.
When Thorin arrived at his destination, the door was ajar. Thorin could hear the shrieking very well, but there were other sounds too. Very familiar sounds.
He took a deep breath and shouted, “Dwalin! I found them!”
***
When Thorin stepped inside the chamber, the sounds became even clearer. One of them he identified as uncontrollable giggling, and the other one, slightly muted, sounded like: “Woooo! Woooo! Wooooo! A carousel! Woooo! Faster, Fíli! Woooo!”
Thorin breathed out a sigh of relief only to be struck by a pang of dread a moment later.
Fíli stood by the washing barrel, cranking the lever, grinning from ear to ear, and laughing. Kíli was nowhere to be seen, but his enthusiastic shouts seemed to be coming from inside of the barrel. Inside, not outside. Thorin swallowed; he considered screaming in terror, but something told him that this was most definitely an example of behaviour unworthy of a king. It took him a moment to melt the ball of ice that was forming in his stomach. He closed the distance between him and the barrel in a blink of an eye.
Thank Mahal, the hatch was open. Inside, Kíli sat with his back against a wall of the large metal container inside the machine, surrounded by various articles of laundry, with a happy grin on his face, and a stray sock on top of his head. A wave of relief washed over Thorin.
“Uncle Thorin! Uncle Thorin!” Fíli exclaimed. “We’re playing carousel! Want to jump in?”
Thorin did not.
“It is time to return home, boys,” Thorin simply said, taking Kíli out of the barrel. His clothes were damp and he smelled like those violet flowers Dís liked so much, but other than that, he looked happy, and what’s more important, he was in one piece – just like his older brother.
“But uncle...” Fíli started.
“Your amad will be home soon. Do you not want to see what she bought at the market?”
“A sugar horse? She promised!” The boy recalled his favourite treat.
Holding Kíli firmly against his chest with one arm, Thorin held out his hand to Fíli.
“Let us go and see,” he said with a smile as his nephew’s tiny hand grabbed his.
There would yet be time for scolding and for a conversation about not sneaking out anywhere alone, but for now, the only thing that Thorin wanted was to safely bring his little rascals home.
He only hoped they would manage to reach their halls before Dís returned.
***
When Dís crossed the threshold of their home later in the afternoon, she was greeted by complete silence. Her sons were nowhere to be seen, which was very suspicious. They were always the first ones to run to her and see what she brought them this time. She expected Thorin to welcome her and help her unpack her basket, as usual — but he was not there either. Was this that ominous silence she dreaded so much whenever her boys were executing another of their silly mischiefs? Not really. It seemed as if their home was empty… until she heard a familiar sound coming from a nearby chamber. Dís put the basket on the floor and tiptoed deeper into their halls.
The picture that unfolded before her eyes was the last thing she had expected. Her brother was half sitting, half lying on the sofa, his legs stretched out in front of him, his head resting on the backrest, his eyes closed. Fíli was cuddled up to his uncle’s side, his hair tousled, making her think of a skein of golden yarn. Kíli lay on the opposite side of his uncle, his head resting on Thorin’s lap and turned towards her. He had his thumb in his mouth. Dís could clearly see the darker stain of drool on her brother’s trousers and stifled a giggle.
All three of them were asleep, of course. And all three of them were snoring in perfect unison. If she closed her eyes she could almost imagine that she had a working sawmill in front of her.
This scene was too adorable for Dís to interrupt it, so she decided that she would let her three boys sleep a little longer. There was no harm in a little nap, after all. Besides, she was tired, and there was still some space left on the sofa…As she drifted off to sleep beside them, her last conscious thought was: “Why do all three of them smell like my lavender laundry soap?”
I tried something new. Writing a Middle Earth story about young Fili and Kili and Uncle Thorin. I was inspired by this amazing piece of art by @sugarsu Here is the link to the original post. If you like the artwork, please consider reblogging the original post as well.
In the woods of Ered Luin
Summary: Uncle Thorin is taking care of young Fili and Kili and they visit the woods in the area of Ered Luin, The Blue Mountains. Just a lot of fluff and a somewhat anxious Thorin at times, but we all know the boys, so we can't really blame him 😉
It was still early, but Fili and Kili had already been running around since their eyes had opened to a beautiful day in Ered Luin. Dis and Thorin were sitting at the kitchen table, quietly drinking their coffee and listening to the chatter and laughter of the boys. Thorin usually didn’t have a lot of time, so he valued these family moments very much.
Thorin had offered to spend the day with his little nephews. His dear sister Dis had gratefully accepted the offer and looked forward to having some time to herself. But as soon as Thorin had offered to take the boys, next to excitement a little pang of fear hit him. What mayhem would he encounter this fine day? Nothing ever did not happen, something always did.
Thorin mustered up his courage and got up to fetch the boys. When he saw a heap of pebbles, blankets, pillows and a cat on top of it, he wondered what had happened in the few minutes he had taken his eyes off of them. Shaking his head, he said, 'Come on boys, get your coats, put on your boots.’
The heap of blankets, pillows, pebbles and cat immediately came apart and two pairs of eyes looked at him questioningly. 'Where are we going uncle Thorin?' they asked.
“You’ll see. Now come on, get ready,’ he told them.
Not long after, they entered the forest near the Blue Mountains. It was a beautiful day so far, but the big furry clouds in the distance promised some well deserved rain for the plants and wildlife in the forest. The leaves were softly rustling in the breeze, birds were chirping and singing, insects buzzing. The forest was so full of life, yet so peaceful.
Kili was jumping and running around. There was so much to see. Flowers, plants, little rocks, insects. Thorin smiled. That boy never seemed to run out of energy. Fili was usually much more reserved and quiet. He was walking alongside Thorin, observing the woods, asking him all kinds of questions and Thorin was answering them patiently.
‘What animals will we see today uncle Thorin?’ Fili asked. ‘Will there be moose? And wolves? What about bunnies? Oh look, uncle Thorin, what kind of bird is that?’ his little fingers pointing at a bird with a bright red chest, singing its morning song on one the branches of a big oak tree.
Thorin cringed at the idea of encountering a wolf and the pebbles being in danger, but he didn’t have a lot of time to think about it, for Kili came running up to him.
‘Look uncle Thorin, look what I have!’ he exclaimed enthusiastically. He was holding something in his tiny hands, careful not to drop it. Thorin crouched down. ‘What have you got there little man?’
Kili opened his little hands and a black spider crawled out. ‘You can have it uncle Thorin,’ he said proudly and with a big grin on his face. ‘I fetched it for you.’
Oh dear, how to get himself out of that situation.
‘I think the spider is …,’ he started
‘Ciaran’,  Kili said.
‘What?’ Thorin looked at Kili, confused.
‘It’s name is Ciaran,’ Kili explained.
Thorin raised his eyebrows at that and scratched his beard. Wow, he had only just found the spider and it already had a name as if it were part of the family and needed to be taken up in the Durin family tree.
The new addition to the line of Durin was quickly forgotten though, when a rustle of leaves alerted Thorin and he looked in the direction of the sound. The word ‘wolves’ still fresh in his mind, he grabbed Kili and told him to be quiet. He checked on Fili, who was crouching down beside Thorin, imitating his uncle and all three of them looked in the direction of the moving bushes nearby.
A little spooked by Fili’s question about wolves, Thorin wished that he had brought his sword. He held his breath, but he sighed with relief when a deer and a fawn appeared and not a big bad wolf.
‘Oh look uncle Thorin,’ Kili pointed at the fawn, ‘A baby deer! Can we go pet it?’ he asked excitedly.
‘No, Kili,’ Thorin said, ‘They are erm … having breakfast. It’s best to leave them be.’
Kili sighed disappointedly and Thorin chuckled.
‘Come on boys, let’s go about our way. There is a stream not far from here.’
That also got Fili excited and both pebbles ran ahead, their chatter and laughter echoing between the trees. It warmed Thorin 's heart to see them so excited and happy. With a smile on his face, he followed his nephews in the direction of the stream.
The clouds, which had seemed so far away at the start of their walk, now gathered above them, hiding the sun and making the forest a little darker. Drops of rain started to fall and the calming sound of the raindrops falling on the foliage and the fresh smell of wet earth had a calming effect on Thorin. All anxiety about wolves forgotten.
He loved the woods, the sounds, the smells. He filled his lungs with a deep breath of fresh air and for a moment closed his eyes and held his face up to the sky, the fresh rain drops gently falling on his face, his beard and his long, dark hair, which was held back with a beautiful handcrafted clip in the form of a raven.
He stood there, enjoying the moment, but then, at once, snapped back to reality. It had gone quiet. Even though shouting and noise usually didn’t mean anything good when the boys were concerned, neither did absolute silence. He quickened his pace and almost tripped over a boot and another one and another. He followed the trail of boots, picking them up. Apparently, the boys had decided that they no longer needed those.
He approached the stream and saw Fili crouched down, his blue cape over his head and his chin resting in the palm of his hand.  Kili was perched on his hands and knees on a flat stone in the stream.  They were studying a black bird which was hopping from stone to stone in the stream. The bird paused, sat on a stone and curiously turned its head from side to side, seemingly as curious as the boys. It was altogether a peaceful sight, the dripping sound of the raindrops making little circles in the water, the gently flowing stream, and the boys watching the bird, watching the boys.
Thorin crouched down next to Fili and put his big hand on Fili’s tiny shoulder. So that’s why the little rascals had gone quiet, he thought and smiled.
‘Can we keep him uncle?' Kili asked, breaking the silence. ‘Can we take him home so that we can show him to amad?’
‘No my dear boy, your mother wouldn’t be very happy if you took a bird home. It lives here, in the forest, you know. This is its home.  Everyone and everything has its own place in this world and the woods is where the bird belongs. It would be sad if it had to leave his home. You don’t want it to be sad, do you?’
Thorin heard himself say the words and for a moment sadness hit him. His thoughts went to Erebor, his home, where he belonged and which he had been forced to leave and for which he longed with all his heart. One day, he would return to the Lonely Mountain. He was sure of it.
He didn’t have long to think about it, because a frog hopped out of the water, onto the stone chasing off the bird.
Kili giggled and reached for the frog. ‘Can we take …’ he started.
‘No, Kili, we can’t take the frog home either,’ Thorin said sternly, but he had a hard time keeping a straight face. Kili seemed to want to take home every animal and insect he encountered. Thorin was sure that Dis wouldn’t appreciate a zoo in her home.
After a moment, Thorin got up and said, ‘Come on boys, put your boots back on. Let’s go see if amad has something nice to fill your bellies ok? You must be hungry after all these adventures.’
With that, the frog was all about forgotten, the boys hurried to put their boots on and off they went with Thorin in tow. Thorin was quietly enjoying the walk back home, while Kili and Fili chased after butterflies, found treasures - read 'stones' - along the way, chased each other and left Thorin wondering if he, Frerin and Dis had ever had the same amount of energy as these two boys.
The rain had stopped, the sun had broken through the clouds, its rays illuminating the way home and he couldn’t have been more relaxed.
By the time they got home, Thorin was quite proud of himself that so far, the day had passed without any incidents and mayhem under his supervision. He was grateful for the family time, but also, deep down, grateful to be handing them back over to their mother, his dear sister, whom he admired more and more, every time he looked after the boys.  But also deep down, he longed for another day with his nephews, whom he loved as if they were his own sons.
