sam at stanford playing frisbee with friends and having to remind himself not go into life-and-death sprinting tackling mode because he's used to violence, a fight, he's not used to a game.

when one of his friends gets a cut on his hand from cutting open a package with scissors he has to stop himself from speaking authoritatively about the makeshift urgent care he learned growing up. here the remedy isn't whiskey and rinsing the injury in the motel sink and dental floss stitches.

sam has the new sensation of making acquaintances. people he might see again once or twice or a few times, but who won't be relied on like the hunters john knew or like sam's family.

sam takes a classics class and has to stop himself from bringing in a lifetime of knowledge of fighting monsters. he can't correct professors about werewolf characteristics, because here werewolves aren't real. it's a relief. and it's bitter because the one thing he was good at, the research, he's having to erase.

sam delights in the dining hall three meal swipes a day. after a few weeks his friends start to complain about the food. sam never ever does. ever after months, years, having a nice hot meal when he wants is a highlight that brightens his day.

he has to remind himself not to share these corrections he's needing to make, even with his closest friends. he shifts his habits and personality alone, quietly, internally.

And at first I thought about actually making it work, but then I thought about those comments saying stuff like "Imagine how painful it is if it flung out of the track"

And of course I thought about Science Dad Au cause it tickles my brain and I love it as a concept so much

Weird Gravity Falls question:

As fans, we’re all aware that Filbrick sucked as a dad.

But do Stan and Ford understand that?

It seems obvious to us outside viewers, but I don’t exactly recall any comments by either senior Pines twin that would suggest they have connected those dots. I believe it’s fairly normal for children of abusive, neglectful or just simply bad parents to think their parent’s behavior was normal or that they deserved it or whatever, and in addiction to not being able to remember a moment where they admit their dad sucked, they certainly have both internalized his words.

Ford continued to pursue his education and was obsessed with academic excellence, as that seemed to be the one and only thing that made his father show him any kind of appreciation.

Stan continued to obsess over money, as his dad told him that was the only way he was allowed to return home. And let’s not forget his comment in the finale “dad was right, I am a screw up”

But again, and please please correct me if I’m wrong, I can’t think of anything either of them has said that criticizes their father’s actions. There’s the comment that he “wasn’t easily impressed” which I think more than anything, serves more as an excuse for his actions. Heck, in the flashback of Stan taking boxing lessons, I felt that whole scene was framed as Filbrick being a good dad, personally, I thought he was a good dad up until A Tale of Two Stans.

Idk I guess I just always assumed that after several decades they started to understand that Filbrick wasn’t a great dad, but it’s perfectly realistic for neither of them to have come to that conclusion, and frankly, the tiny bits of evidence from the show support this being the case.

I rambled a bit here, but what do you all think? Did I forget a moment that proves they do see their dad wasn’t a good dad? Do you think they have processed that part of their childhoods?

I drew and colored the grunks (and the chair) and drew did the lil Stans' lineart. Fordtato colored the lil Stans, and drew and colored the background.

The envisionment of the scene is Stan finally remembering Ford after temporarily losing his memory. I imagine as sad as it would be is that Ford might have actually been one of the last people he remembered. I believe due to all the pain and feelings of being turned away might have caused his subconscious to keep those memories at bay. But some of the good memories started slipping into place until it finally all hit him.

Took a break from studying and decided to self indulge myself with an GF X Odyssey/Epic au

Ford is now Odysseus babyyy. Basically just like in the book as well as in the musical, Ford spends 20 years away from his home Ithaca, his beloved twins Dipper and Mabel and his brother Stan who became a regent taking over Ford's place while the king was away for war and raising his niece and nephews for the last 20 years. Still figuring the other stuffs tho. Mostly based from the musical rather than the myth itself but I also took some creative liberties.

I have a story idea I don’t know what to do with. Basically Ford manages to turn himself into a kid.

In this scene, Stan gets frustrated because he tries to get little Ford to read all the notes for the thing that Old Ford wrote that turned him young. But little Ford only has the memories he had when he was a 10 year old and doesn’t understand any of Old Ford’s notes. Stan upsets the little baby and (because Ford always says Stan looks like Filbrick) little Ford accidentally calls him “Pa”
