Keris Veturia x Y/n(Kaylen)
I decided to give Y/n a name because I was tired of writing Y/n over and over. Oh and I have a wattpad where I have a book, my name is Codename_kidnextdoir
I fell in love with my best friend. One of Blackcliff’s coldest, in love.
I know I shouldn’t, the only place love will take me is a grave. I can’t tell her. Keris Veturia is also one of Blackcliff’s coldest, her father is also our commandant, they don’t get along at all. As a child she refused to take part in training and he whipped her everyday until she did. He killed my parents because I wouldn’t cooperate, he made me this way and I will never forgive him. Keris and I have been best friends ever since we were yearlings. Yearlings are the lowest ranking students at Blackcliff then it goes up to fivers then to cadets then skulls then senior skulls then once you graduate training you’re a ghost. Upon arriving at the school, students are given a tattoo on the back of their neck of Blackcliff's symbol, a four-sided black diamond with curved sides. Keris and I are ghosts, we graduated a year or so ago, this just goes to show how long we’ve been friends.
Most of Blackcliff calls us twins, not because of looks because we look nothing alike. Keris is 5 '7 with blonde hair and pale gray eyes which is where I got my nickname for her, my nickname for her is Slate seeing as slate is a shade of pale gray. She has a slim figure, she’s fit but not bulky. I on the other hand am 6’1 with black hair that is often in a wolf cut, I also have oak brown eyes which is where Keris gets her nickname for me, she calls me oak. I have more of a bulky build, 8 pack abs, sharp jaw-line, sharp v-line, and strong arms and legs, I take great pride in my body. They call us twins because of the fact you barely see one without the other, one gets into a fight so does the other, we always train together, and we’re always on missions together. We’re a duo, a packaged deal and everyone knows if you mess with one of us you get your ass beat by both of us.
It wasn’t until Keris was assigned on a mission without me that I realized how much I truly love her. How much I want her nowhere other than by my side, how much I missed her slate gray eyes, her perfect smile, pale skin that turns a cherry red when she’s cold, and how playfully angry she gets when I use her head as an armrest and remind her she’s a whopping 7 inches shorter than me. I didn’t really mind her on a solo but that’s the thing, it wasn’t a solo mission…She got paired up with Marcus, Blackcliff’s biggest asshole. Marcus has what you would call a god complex, he expects everyone to bow down to him and everything to revolve around him. I suspect that’s why he despises me, he knows I'm better than him and there’s nothing he can do about it. Worst of all he thinks he owns Keris. He thinks she belongs to him! I have witnessed numerous times where he tried to touch her, invite her to his quarters, and he and his twin brother have even cornered her once or twice. Each and every time I’ve witnessed these things I beat his ass which resulted in him in the infirmary and me getting publicly whipped for assault on a fellow ghost, do I regret it? No, even a bit. Keris hates his gut and I’m better than him. I’m faster, stronger, smarter, and hotter. He has this obsession with her, with my girl and I can’t stand it. I don’t trust him to protect her but I can’t do anything about it, orders are orders.
While Keris was gone I got stuck with training the yearlings, it wasn’t even anything fun just going over some basic fighting rules so they don’t trip over their own feet and impale themselves on their own blade. After a miserable day of teaching things that should be common sense I finally retired to my room. I let myself free of my clothed prison and hopped in the shower, washing twice, washing my hair, and washed up a third time before getting out and brushing my teeth. I hear my door open and close but I just ignored it and went on to brush my hair and wrapped it up in a towel. I’m not worried because the only people that come in my room are the commandant and Keris because the rest are scared of me. I washed my face, my skin is clear and soft. I walked out of the bathroom and was hit with a strong smell of roses which alarms me seeing as my scent is vanilla and raspberry, I take a sniff and relaxed when I smelt a faint strawberry, roses and strawberries, I smile “I missed you, Slate” I walked over to my dresser and put on some underwear, a sports bra, and a pair of black sweatpants
“I missed you too, Oak” Keris smiled and sat up on the bed
“How was your mission?” I asked brushing through my now simi-dry hair “I don’t have to kill Marcus do I?”
Keris laughed “As much as I would like to see that, I don’t want you to be punished for killing him”
“I would take a million punishments if it was for you” I said, finishing up my hair then walk over to sit next to her on my bed
“I know you would, Oak” She smiled, she ran her fingers through my hair. I hum and lay in her lap, she knows how much I adore her playing in my hair
“Slate?”
“Yeah?”
“I know you didn’t hop ya ass in my bed without cleaning up after your mission” I look at her
“I was excited to see you!” She defended
“Go get ya stank ass in the shower!” I laughed and hit her with a pillow
Keris laughed with me “Ok ok” she took a towel and walked into my bathroom, I heard the shower start and I lay down where she was, turning to smell the pillow. It smelled like her, it’s addictive, I want her. Keris came back about 30 minutes later, she dried off and put on some of my sweatpants and one of my hoodies then crawled into bed next to me “Wanna watch scream?” Keris suggested, she loves horror movies. I nodded and turned it on, and we fell asleep watching the movie with her head on my chest.
The next morning Keris and I were up at 7am as usual. We were already washed and dressed in our training gear. We walked into training yard 1, together as always and as always it immediately got silent as soon as we were spotted. Yes there was more than 1 training yard, Blackcliff was huge. We went on with training, as always I beat Keris, It wasn’t because she wasn’t good because she was, she was amazing, one of Blackcliff’s best as well as me. It was because she always plays from one book, Blackcliff’s book but not everyone is going to play from the same book. I win because I play from more than one book, I play from all of them. We sensed a presence
“Something we can help you with?” I asked
“You both were summoned by the commandant” The messenger boy spoke, refusing to look at either of us
I backhanded him, sending him tumbling to the ground “You look at us when speaking, understand?”
“Understood ma’am” He whimpered
I nod “Good, off you go” I said and he ran off. I began walking to the commandant’s office and Keris followed. We stopped in front of the door and I knocked sharply 3 times, soon after we heard a booming voice telling us to enter. As soon as we closed the door we fell into a deep bow “Commandant” we said in unison
“King, Venturia, I have a mission for you. There is a scholar boy making serric steel, your job is to kill him and his close confidant, his sister. I want his notebook and proof of his death.”
“Of course, commandant” We said in unison
“You set off in 20 minutes” He gives us a paper with all the boy’s information on it “You’re dismissed”
We took another low bow and walked back to our quarters. Alone in my room I slip out of my training gear “The field of battle is my temple” I slid on my mission armor “The swordpoint is my priest” I gently put on my mask “The dance of death is my prayer” I slid my scims onto my back “The killing blow is my release” I repeated to some mantra I always have since I was 14. I know my skills come from years and years of training but it was the last thing my father said to me so I rely on that mantra. Keris walks in
“You ready, Oak?” She asked me
“Of course, Slate” I pat her back and walk out
Keris followed behind me and we hopped on our steeds and took off to the village. The ride was silent aside from the horse hooves connecting with the gravel below, that was until Keris broke the silence
“Do you ever get tired of it?” She asked quietly
I know what she was talking about, she was talking about the killing, the being forced to execute the empire's will. I hate it, I really do but I have to keep up the act because Blackcliff academy is like sharks and splashing as soon as I make even the slightest ripple of weakness they’ll circle me and eat me alive. That’s the same reason no one can know I’m in love with my best friend, they’ll use her to get to me, they’ll kill her to force me back into submission.
“I do…It may not seem like it but I do” I said keeping my eyes forward
“So why do you continue? It’s not like you’re afraid to die” She looks at me, feeling her eyes on me, I look at her
“I do it for you. I stay because I know if I die you’re going to end up with a partner that won’t protect you, that won’t hesitate to put your life at risk to save their own ass, that’s why I hated when the commandant partnered you with Marcus” I take a breath and turn my eyes back straight “Everything I do is for you” I hear her suck in a breath as her eyes linger on me
“Kaylen” She calls me
She called me Kaylen not Oak, she only uses my real name when she’s mad or when the conversation is about to get deep, I know from her tone of voice that she wasn’t mad which means this conversation was about the to get deep, It can get deep, if it does I might tell her I love her
“We’re here” I say partly to avoid this conversation but mostly because we were here, right outside of the village, I look at the information “Ok looks like his house has a skylight. We’ll run the rooftops and drop through the skylight. You take care of the sister, I’ll take the brother” I hopped off my horse and helped Keris off her’s, I noticed the solemn look on her face “Don’t worry, it’ll be over soon. Always victorious” I brush her cheek
“Always victorious” She gives me a hug
I smile and find my way onto a rooftop, Keris follows me up and we take off towards the house, slicing through the air like the swords on our backs. Soon we’re moving so fast it feels as if we are standing still, making not a sound, and not a single roof tile was disturbed. After a minute or so we perch on the rooftop of the house next to the target’s, first I assess the house making sure renovations were made. Flat rooftop, two windows on each side of the house, it was made out of bricks, and of course the skylight, everything was accounted for. Next I made sure the target’s were inside
“Targets are inside” I look at Keris and nod “Come” I said
Keris and I jumped the gap and landed silently, it was roughly a 5 foot gap. I take my window cutter and cut a hole, using the suction attachment to quietly lift it up. Keris drops through as flawlessly landed on the carpet, she was perfection. I shook off the thought and dropped in…not a creek, amazing. We split up, creeping into the family room silently. I pulled out my side blade or dagger, whatever you want to call it. I kicked the back of the scholar boy’s knees and held the blade firmly to his throat. He tried to fight back, I pushed the blade farther into his neck, drawing a little blood.
“One wrong move and your jugular is on the ground along with your sister’s heart” I said
“Ok ok just don’t hurt her” He pleaded
“You make serric steel” I said knowing he would deny it “Where’s the book”
He hesitates, looking at his sister debating whether or not he wanted to lie “I don’t know what book you’re on about”
“That’s about what I was expecting” I said and started looking around. Coffee table is clear, desk is clear, bookshelf is cle- wait the bookshelf is arranged in alphabetical order yet there’s a D in the A section, pun intended…The boy’s name is Darin
“Slate, grab that book, the only D in the A’s” I grip the boy’s hair, keeping a tight grip on him
Keris let’s go of the sister and takes the book of the shelf looking through it “This is it” she said’
The sister runs over to Keris ready to punch, Keris turns quickly and stabs her in the side, she falls gripping where the dagger was just in her
“NO!” Darin struggled in my grip but I kept a tight grip “You said you wouldn’t hurt her!”
“I never said that” I held his head up “Kill her” I looked at my girl
Keris slowly runs her blade across her throat, I see the tears run down the boy’s cheek, sliding my dagger across his throat, feeling the thick blood trickle down the back of my hand, I see his crimson liquid coat my blade. I sigh and wipe off my dagger, holstering it. Step….Step. Someone’s behind me but Keris is in front of me. I pull my scim from my back and turn around, slicing their chest before impaling them through the heart, they dropped to knees, damn…It was their mother. Why did she have to walk in, just why. I pull my sword out, she’s bleeding out, dying and there’s nothing I can do to save, by the time I get her to a healer she’ll be dead and I don’t have the things I need to save her on my person. I drop to my knees, hand covered in blood and shaking, I place a hand on her cheek, she’s struggling to keep her eyes open, struggling to breathe, I see the blood spilling out of her, dripping from the corner of her mouth.
“I’m sorry…I didn’t mean to, you weren’t supposed to be here” I rambled out
She lays her hand over mine “It’s okay, dear” she smiled
She smiled at me…I killed her children and she is about to die by my hand, I signed her name in my deathnote yet she’s smiling at me.
“Let me see your face, dear” She said
I was confused but reached to take off my mask, Keris grabbed my hand giving me the “Are you sure about this?” look, I nod and remove my mask, my oak brown eyes peering into her deep blue ones
“You’re beautiful” She said, tracing her thumb over my defined jawline “Your soul is pure, keep your soul. You are a torch in the night, you’ll shine. There is hope in life” she told me before the life drained from her eyes, I can’t leave her on the floor. I pick her up and laid her on the couch before putting my mask back on
“Let’s go, Slate” I said after getting proof of the boy’s death
Keris and I soon arrived back in Blackcliff academy, we walk up to the commandant’s office, I knock 3 times sharply hearing an “Enter” we walk in and fall into a low bow
“Is it complete?” He asked
“Yes commandant” I sit the notebook on his desk as well as handing him a sack “Darin’s book and proof of death, sir”
He looks through the book and nods in approval then opens the sack and grins, he dumps the contents of the sack on the floor, Keris and I keep our eyes forward already knowing what is was…Darin’s head, his other body parts didn't have anything identifiable, no tattoos nor piercing, no scars nor birthmarks, nothing. His head was the last resort.
“Amazing job you two. You’re dismissed” He said
We took a low bow and walked out, we went to our quarters then an hour later Keris walked in my room, just like me, freshly showered. I was looking at my lap thinking about the mother, she reminded me of my mom, always forgiving, though she was dying by my hand she forgave me, smiled at me, and called me beautiful
“Get out of your head, it wasn’t your fault. Everyone knows not to sneak up on a ghost” Keris runs her hand through my hair
“It doesn’t matter who’s fault it was, her blood is on my hands” I say quietly, it’s getting hard to breathe, Black dots cloud my vision, the sounds around me start to get drowned out by a loud buzzing in my ears, my hands go numb, and my heart feels like it’s going to break out of my rib cage and run away. I couldn’t feel anything. Suddenly I could breath, soon I regained my vision, when my eyes came back into focus I see Keris pulling away from my face
“What did you do?” I asked
“I kissed you. You were having a panic attack and sometimes to stop a panic attack you need to hold your breath so when I kissed you you he-” She rambled on
“I held my breath” I finished her sentence
I looked at her, fuck it I want her, I want her to be mine and mine only. I place one hand on her cheek, the other on her waist
“What are you doing?” Keris said, I can hear her breathing start to lag
“Keris, I love you, I want you to be mine, I don’t want to meet a day where you aren’t by my side, I can’t fathom life without you. I don’t want you by anyone’s else’s side beside mine” I spoke softly
Keris stares at me, this is the only time I can’t tell what she’s thinking and it scares me. I was about to pull away from her but she pulls my shirt, I look at her, she’s smiling at me, her smile is beautiful it makes my heart flutter
“I thought I was the only one feeling it” She kisses me
This kiss is different from the one she used to pull me from my mental prison. In this one she’s showing her love for me. I can feel her love, gratitude, and possessiveness, I can feel how much she cherishes and admires and treasures me. She poured it all into this kiss so I do the same, I put it all into this kiss, my years and years of love, my admiration, all of it. After a minute or two we needed to breathe so we pulled away with smiles
“Keris, You are my temple.
You are my priest.
You are my prayer.
You are my release”
“I have never love that mantra more than I do right now” She throws her arms around my neck, her smile never leaving “I love you, Oak”
“I love you too, Slate”
With those words we set our fate with a kiss. All of the fight and killing… It didn’t matter anymore because I had her, she had me. We completed each other.
Keris Venturia was mine…….Suck it Marcus! Ahahaha, see you guys later, I'm taking MY girl on a date.
God damn it feels good to finally say that.
