WHO IS A CATS LOVER VS DOGS LOVER SCALE
[Only anime characters for now]
CATS LOVERS:
° Kuon: Cats are elegant, cute, clean, can purr and don’t drool. Dogs bark, are intimidating, probably roll in the mud, smell bad and drool on her pretty dresses. So yeah, cat supremacy for her. She is super scared of huge dogs. Probably own several cats.
° Yukio Tanabe: Due to severals bad experiences with dogs, he prefers cats. They are more calm. Plus, you sort of gain their affection rather than being loyal by default. He is very suspicious of smaller dogs, as they can quickly become agitated and susceptible to bite (after his experiences).
° Sniper Mask: Cats are in the perfect balance between clingy and too independent. They have a presence and may be hilariously silly and yet still be gracious. Has a soft spot for black cats. Doesn’t dislike dogs but find them too needy.
° Rikuya Yoshida: He really likes both, but tends to prefers cats. They are just so cute! Especially kitten! Their energies are contagious. Definitely plays with stray cats on his way home after school and wants to pet all the dogs he meets.
TRUE NEUTRAL
° Yuri: The true reconciler. Both are good boy/girl. Both are cute. Animals probably love her back.
° Uzuki, White Feather, Kohei Yamanami: Don’t have a strong opinion on them. Sure, they are cute but like any other animals, aren’t they?
DOGS LOVERS
° Kazuma Aohara: Doesn’t hate cats but is allergic to them. He used to have a dog as kid and keeps good memories of them. He doesn’t own one anymore because his work schedule is too heavy.
° Mayuko: Dogs are reliable and affectionate: it’s all she can ask for. Cats seem to avoid her. Once, a cat randomly hisses at her and she furiously hisses back, making the cat run away. Deep down, she was proud of herself.
° Rika: He’s fascinated by the closeness between dogs and humans within History. He would like to own one when he’ll be independent, mostly for sportive purposes. Cats... are really incomprehensible from his point of view. They hold too much chaotic power.
° Great Angel: Cats are often depicted with villains and associated with witchcraft! Thus, they must be evil! While dogs are good, as they work with policers! So the dogs are the greater good!!! Hurray to the puppy’s kind!!!
OTHERS :
° Ein, Shinji Okihara: Prefer rabbits over cats and dogs.
° China Mask: Prefers mice and gerbils over cats and dogs.
° Miko Mask, Prophet: Prefer birds over cats and dogs.
° Yayoi Kusakabe, Mamoru Aikawa, Dealer Mask: Don’t like pets, the end.
° Swimmer Mask, Student Mask: Please take pets far away from them 💀

why did they write kuon (or whatever her name is i wasn’t interested enough in her to pay attention or even google it) to be the one to cancel the hibernation command in nise when yuri’s literally out there trying to become closer to god just to save her friend. all the fan service i had to tolerate - reminder that it’s been over fifty chapters and nise’s shirt is still torn to show her bra and yuri has a strip of cloth for a skirt, considering it’s torn so far up her side - set aside, this is the wonkiest point of writing in the manga, so far.
nise serves as a driving force behind a lot of yuri’s actions. i’ll even say that her character goes as far as to humanize the both of them. by their interactions we get to see them become more than their tropes and two-dimensional bases. we get to see them grow and care about each other and constantly put their selves at risk just for the other one to be safe.  she’s the person yuri thinks about and cares for the most after her brother, and even then there are so many points wherein yuri was willing to compromise the major goals she’s set - that is, meeting her brother, and later on the whole actual high-rise invasion - just because of nise. the fact that yuri was willing to die for nise even once is telling enough. basically: nise is arguably the most important person to yuri, as of now. she is literally the motivational catalyst for yuri to become closer to god.
which is why kuon releasing the hibernation command is straight out of left field. we get the hype, the build-up to yuri travelling alone for the first time without nise to support her and look out for her. it’s literally something the author pointed out in yuri’s dialogue: i’m travelling alone for the first time in a long time. and yuri knows she has to be quick because she’s leaving nise behind, alone and defenseless. i’m still disappointed that we didn’t get a panel to actually see, but yuri! kisses! nise! before she promises to come back and leaves, and when she’s there yuri guns it (i’d also like to point out that yuri’s in such a tunnel vision about this particular goal because it’s possibly the first time she crosses the suspension bridges without taking extra caution. she doesn’t hold onto the ropes. she just runs across, trying to minimize as much time as she can, no matter how little, because that’s how important nise is to her).
don’t get me wrong. i’m all for saving nise. i’m also for moving the plot forward, because i do want answers as much as the next guy, but kuon’s presence in this whole manga is just straight out of left field. she feels like the convenient plot device (like a lot of other characters, just that her role sticks out more than the others do). and just, honestly? why build up yuri’s will to save her friend (who, remind you, is arguably the most important person to her as of now), why dedicate pages to her running to find the faceless mask? why emphasize, time and time again, that becoming a person closer to god is upping the danger level and is basically the equivalent to painting a big target sign onto your forehead? why emphasize that yuri would go that far because nise is her friend (although as time goes on in it really seems like yuri should be using a different term now, but whatever)?
kuon (with the masked sniper, whatever) being there to cure nise while yuri is gone feels like they’re trying to justify her presence as a character. to give her some sort of usefulness to drive the story other than observational, passive exposition and a potential love interest to the masked sniper and a plot device to uncover his own past (and drive in, once again, the fact that het actually exists in this story outside the yuri/nise greatness). she’s written to be perfect, and it shows, and that’s irritating. it’s just a little ironic because in the flashbacks and little details what we know of kuon is that she came from a privileged life in the real world (e.g. fancy car, fancy school, fancy family) and the hardest thing she’s ever dealt with is not being able to interact with the ~common folk~. in the high-rise realm she has so much luck she gets to walk around unharmed because she’s a person close to god (i’ll skip the poor handling of the harassment sub-story they made her have for like three panels, because. it felt like another convenient plot point just for her and the masked sniper to pair up sigh). so basically: she came from a privileged real world and even in the high-rise realm she’s still privileged, which makes her character and her reactions. so. bland. there’s no contrast of being someone privileged who lost it all with their eyes wide open in the high-rise realm wherein money didn’t matter as much as actions did. there isn’t even the panel back story like kazuma aohara’s, who was humiliated by his older peers in the real world, and wanted to become god in the realm so he could finally experience reward over punishment. other, more minor characters travel from point a to point b in a single panel, while kuon has been a recurring character for over twenty chapters without development of any kind. ashes to ashes, dust to dust, privilege to privilege, i guess.
they really should have just let yuri handle it.

Yuri: I mean, small creatures are far more vicious. It's because their anger has less space to be bottled up in.
Aohara: Ridiculous, give me some examples.
Kuon: Spiders.
Ein: Wasps.
Sniper: Mayuko Nise.
